Ross McCormack was in court for fly tipping last year and now he is a much more successful entertainer.

autumn reckoning faction (xelab), Friday, 8 August 2014 01:50 (ten years ago)

hey it's on now motherfuckers

nervy tbh

Daphnis Celesta, Friday, 8 August 2014 09:39 (ten years ago)

we've made some impressive signings and oppet had best be shitting his pants

we're also favourites for relegation with some bookies. gonna say it now: top half

there's my bullishness for the season out of the way. now for terrible truth

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Friday, 8 August 2014 09:50 (ten years ago)

bring it the fuck on pal. I was feeling good about the season until wigan tapped up forshaw and we panic bought tommy smith and nick proschwitz. the other signings have looked good in the pre season snippets i've seen. our defence is worrying.

oppet, Friday, 8 August 2014 10:23 (ten years ago)

big George Elokobi's got a gig at Oldham, yay!

Daphnis Celesta, Friday, 8 August 2014 11:29 (ten years ago)

Super excited to see our new Akinfenwa/Tubbs frontline against Shrewsbury tomorrow. I have no doubt we will lose, but it's meant to be a nice day, I'm going to a BBQ after the game, and I'll be able to pick up our rather lovely new away shirt. Next weekend brings the fabled Battle of the Beasts, Bayo vs McNulty, which I feel slightly more confident about...

Blandford Forum, Friday, 8 August 2014 11:49 (ten years ago)

Glad to see Akinfenwa has bulked up a bit, he used to look a bit of a lightweight in his Swansea days.

autumn reckoning faction (xelab), Friday, 8 August 2014 19:33 (ten years ago)

why am I watching this shit btw

new season's resolution: stop watching football just because it's on

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Friday, 8 August 2014 19:36 (ten years ago)

I am going to try and attend more than 10 games this season, being a vicarious radio listening fan sucks even more than watching drab random games on sky. I enjoyed the Rhodes/Cairney goal but for all the big moneyness of these two teams, they both look quite mediocre.

autumn reckoning faction (xelab), Friday, 8 August 2014 19:47 (ten years ago)

i saw nothing in that match to afear me. looking forward to a comfortable mid-table finish with minimal drama.

oppet, Friday, 8 August 2014 20:44 (ten years ago)

tomorrow's game is being livestreamed on the internets btw

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Friday, 8 August 2014 20:44 (ten years ago)

just checked the fixtures to see when we're at yours but it's a Tuesday night, not gonna happen :(

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Friday, 8 August 2014 20:47 (ten years ago)

watched brentford v ogc nice in preseason, bees looked p dece before i and everyone else in the stand succumbed to dazed boozy sunstroke but idk about making the playoffs or anything quite just yet

gray took a smart goal, lil fat pritchard from spurs ran the show (nice were absolutely dreadful tbf)

can't go wrong with tommy smith though, a cool clever player

r|t|c, Friday, 8 August 2014 20:49 (ten years ago)

bah

not many short away trips this season for us southern sorts

the cult of warbs should propel brentford nicely tbh. he seems like a reckonable force

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Friday, 8 August 2014 20:52 (ten years ago)

our squad looks a little thin, hard to tell how much of that is the Jackett way of doing things and how much is FFP worries with half a dozen failed Prem players still draining their Prem wages. dunno if Max Clayton is a risk or not. wd be quite happy with a steady top of the middle season if the right kind of progress happens, if we push beyond that then it'll be new territory for the manager and most of the squad, have no idea whether most of them are that capable tbh

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Friday, 8 August 2014 20:56 (ten years ago)

after rmde at forest for the newcastle deals i'm fairly jel they signed assombalonga with the proceeds, like him a lot, rhodesian potential i daresay... if psycho can achieve vague competence at all they've got a pretty nice squad now, although they signed 5 cbs suggesting 3atb and then followed up with two proper wingers in burke and antonio so probably no plans there whatsoever in reality

fulham and cardiff look like they've signed a load of tat, norwich ought to be p solid though? grabban top scorer maybe? (i confidently predict they will lose to wolves tho no fear)

there's derby, wigan, watford, no one really standing out though. ipswich seem attractively mysterious imo (= anonymously midtable but yneverknow)

r|t|c, Friday, 8 August 2014 21:05 (ten years ago)

the most reassuring thing about warbs is that it's very unlikely he'll be fucking off to another club in the near future. proper dynasty material.

i'd fancy wolves to push for playoffs maybe, on the basis that a bit of stability is a good thing. should be a pretty open season.

oppet, Friday, 8 August 2014 21:07 (ten years ago)

weird elision of reading. one of the more impressive teams at the valley last season, reckon they'll be thereabouts

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Friday, 8 August 2014 21:08 (ten years ago)

Wigan look a reasonable bet if they can build on last season maybe. pretty nervous about Sunday, seen us take too many beatings on TV over the last few. all being well i shd be at the Mol for Cardiff in a couple of weeks

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Friday, 8 August 2014 21:09 (ten years ago)

wigan play nice forward-thinking stuff but seem to me to be a striker away from forcing really taking hold of things. especially in this league sometimes u just gotta stop fiddling with the lock and kick in the door waving the 4-4(2)

emyr huws on loan from city is a really nice player but only replaces jordi gomez so

i guess reading do have an okay squad now u mention it but meh... sad to see jamie mackie in fake hoops

r|t|c, Friday, 8 August 2014 21:22 (ten years ago)

I really hope Forest fail because of the Pearce factor, easily the vilest manager in the whole league and lol at him paying nearly £6mill for Assombalonga.

autumn reckoning faction (xelab), Friday, 8 August 2014 21:24 (ten years ago)

i raised an eyebrow at the price but i like him, he's a game lad. what kind of idiot wd put Pearce in charge of a football club god only knows

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Friday, 8 August 2014 21:26 (ten years ago)

pearce is a deeply stupid man & forest will probably implode with joyous results. their fans kinda know it too

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Friday, 8 August 2014 21:30 (ten years ago)

r|t|c, Friday, 8 August 2014 21:33 (ten years ago)

is he the dulwich hamlet maestro

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Friday, 8 August 2014 21:34 (ten years ago)

(we have a player called jack munns on the fringe of the first-team squad who's about 5'3" but much stockier than the above)

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Friday, 8 August 2014 21:35 (ten years ago)

yeah he was at Dulwich last season :D

no finer example of short man syndrome than having your own website while plying ur trade in nonleague

r|t|c, Friday, 8 August 2014 21:40 (ten years ago)

We knicked Dulwich Hamlet's last goalscoring sensation Daniel Carr and he has failed to break into the team so far, probably hates living in the north.

autumn reckoning faction (xelab), Friday, 8 August 2014 21:50 (ten years ago)

i still don't really get what happened to hudds 2nd half of last season, honestly didnt see many if any sides give us a better game at loftus rd

r|t|c, Friday, 8 August 2014 21:55 (ten years ago)

That was a hell of a game, unfortunately performances dropped off after that. Our chairman is quite a ruthless operator and got rid of Robin's coaching staff this summer and despite an FFP type transfer window and losing our 13/14 POY Clayton to Middlesbrough, well not official yet but it has happened. Robins will probably be sacked if we have a bad run of results.

autumn reckoning faction (xelab), Friday, 8 August 2014 22:14 (ten years ago)

Clayton was on the verge of joining Middlesbrough, Butterfield coming the other way had agreed terms with us. Clayton has scuppered the whole deal by skipping his medical and deciding he wants to go to Brighton at the last minute. Middlesbrough left with egg on their faces because they have made the mistake of conducting their business publicly. Not sure where that leaves Butterfield because the rumour mill says that this part of the deal has been already been signed and sealed.

autumn reckoning faction (xelab), Saturday, 9 August 2014 11:28 (ten years ago)

That's a very attacking Brentford lineup but not sure how well it can keep the ball in midfield. LET'S DO THIS.

oppet, Saturday, 9 August 2014 14:02 (ten years ago)

oof, shd have scored there. gudmundsson clearly quite a footballer

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Saturday, 9 August 2014 14:29 (ten years ago)

Shame we turned button into a world class keeper ;)

oppet, Saturday, 9 August 2014 14:34 (ten years ago)

pritchard is to you what gudmundsson is to us, except he's playing centrally and running it. v good player. we've decided to hack him it seems

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Saturday, 9 August 2014 14:36 (ten years ago)

Pritchard looks the business. Not convinced we should play dallas and judge together.

oppet, Saturday, 9 August 2014 14:42 (ten years ago)

oh fuck off, our new keeper's a catch and flop

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Saturday, 9 August 2014 14:42 (ten years ago)

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Saturday, 9 August 2014 14:52 (ten years ago)

Taking odubajo off seems stupid even if tebar will improve central mid.

oppet, Saturday, 9 August 2014 15:08 (ten years ago)

our left-back wiggins has had an absolute nightmare so far, want him subbed asap

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Saturday, 9 August 2014 15:12 (ten years ago)

ffs. Button u cunt.

oppet, Saturday, 9 August 2014 15:26 (ten years ago)

i was about to post 'it's fair to say that both keepers will have done their jobs today', which will have been fairly amusing

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Saturday, 9 August 2014 15:27 (ten years ago)

Ffs ffs ffs. Not really sure what our attacking plan is here other than win corners and fuck them up.

oppet, Saturday, 9 August 2014 15:37 (ten years ago)

note to brentford: we have two huge, imposing, physical, slow centre backs. please keep crossing it in

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Saturday, 9 August 2014 15:38 (ten years ago)

innit. we're a really short team as well.

oppet, Saturday, 9 August 2014 15:41 (ten years ago)

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Saturday, 9 August 2014 15:47 (ten years ago)

YASS. just after trying another shit cross to your big lads too.

McCormack has been waste and needs to move back to centre mid. He couldn't handle decent wingers in league one ffs.

oppet, Saturday, 9 August 2014 15:48 (ten years ago)

harriott needs strangling

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Saturday, 9 August 2014 15:56 (ten years ago)

anyway, jolly well played sir, luck for the season, toodle-pip etc

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Saturday, 9 August 2014 15:58 (ten years ago)

harriot won't make it south of the river alive if there's any justice.

button needs to not be doing that sort of thing. mccormack out. tebar in. don't take off odubajo at half time. gray isn't a championship level striker yet.

thanks for playing imago. i'm glad to have got the first ILF derby out of the way. now i get to spend a week in the lake district worrying about whether we've beaten dagenham in the league cup.

oppet, Saturday, 9 August 2014 16:02 (ten years ago)

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 9 August 2014 17:26 (ten years ago)

Lol! I can still remember the days when fans would be calling for the manager's head after at least a run of bad results. One of the LUFC callers said "When you hire a non-league manager for a club the size of Leeds, they won't understand the expectations of the job."

We might have an unbalanced squad and have sold our best player, but hey! at least we are working within the financial parameters set by the FFP regulationshttp://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t214/historyb/Praise.gif

Robins was already doomed when Hoyle got rid of his back-room team which included some of his close friends, most managers would have walked at this point. Not impressed with how our chairman has dealt with this tbh, type of unclassy conduct you expect from that circus up the m62. I guess Robins was waiting for the pay-off and I don't blame him for that.

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Sunday, 10 August 2014 13:04 (ten years ago)

it's quite funny - they're called Norfolk In Chance, which is meaningless and defeats the pun, but I worked out that they COULD be called Norfolk Enchants, which works beautifully, but they simply lack the requisite imagination. this portends well

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Sunday, 10 August 2014 13:29 (ten years ago)

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Tuesday, 12 August 2014 21:53 (ten years ago)

You might be lucky or even unlucky enough to be facing the new manager's first game in a fixture which looked hopeless after saturday. Robins departure is quite sad tbh, at least he tried to get the team playing football. He lost his way and possibly the dressing room, but I know from a friend who's kid bro got released under his tenure that he was a very decent manager and human being and went way beyond his remit to help him get fixed with a another club.

autumn reckoning faction (xelab), Tuesday, 12 August 2014 22:14 (ten years ago)

wonder who that new manager will be, what's the goss?

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Tuesday, 12 August 2014 22:32 (ten years ago)

Hoyle is a such Maoist type chairman nobody knows anything until it is announced and the Skybet market is complete bollocks as usual, a mouse staking a tiny chunk of carrot can change the betting by points. Fucking Elvis at Coventry is the market fav and he nearly got the job in front of Robins last time, but the chairman has stated he is going for experience and definitely not promoting from within.

was aware of them but felt like maleficic calculus wasn't the way to go re: footballers' crimes

i think there are questions raised about whether a convicted criminal shd be free to return to work after serving their sentence, and whether some fields of employment shd be forever closed to them depending on the crimes they've committed? understand any fans not wanting to have Evans play for their club but this is problematic i think

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Thursday, 14 August 2014 09:28 (ten years ago)

yh it's a v difficult one. aesthetically i could not bear to see evans play for my team but i do believe in the redemption & rehabilitation of criminals

*ponders*

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Thursday, 14 August 2014 09:30 (ten years ago)

Evans still maintains he did nothing wrong so redemption and rehabilitation may be a stretch.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Thursday, 14 August 2014 09:33 (ten years ago)

i guess sporting bodies have rules about disrepute and such which might cover these situations, and it's reasonable for fan groups to apply pressure not to employ players

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Thursday, 14 August 2014 09:33 (ten years ago)

Chris Powell is now amongst the Town manager applicants, get him on board before the Charlton game I say ◠‿◠! I could see him ticking a lot of boxes with our chairman, who like most arrogant self made autocrats - he has an aversion to employing older people for the top jobs. I suppose it can't help that Stan Ternent was extracted from a neolithic bog to manage the club by other parties when he first bought it and he spent a fortune on sub-conference players and made whoopsies everywhere.

autumn reckoning faction (xelab), Friday, 15 August 2014 20:32 (ten years ago)

lol we'd have absolutely no problem with him at Town - a few hilarious wankers were fretting about him going to Palace on the forum, which was always absolutely never even conceivably going to happen

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Friday, 15 August 2014 20:34 (ten years ago)

I'd be quite happy for him, myself, and I'd hope that you weren't direct relegation rivals of ours

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Friday, 15 August 2014 20:34 (ten years ago)

He is my fave for the job because unlike some of the other more so-called big-shot type applicants I get the feeling he would desire the job more and not see it it as a temp move or beneath him. Which is what will hopefully come across in his interview. A lot of the sub-human nob-rots on our forum are in love with Neil Lennon, probably some of the same fucking wasters guilty of leading the embarrassing "No Surrender to the IRA" chants at various times in the past:O=

autumn reckoning faction (xelab), Friday, 15 August 2014 21:11 (ten years ago)

he inspires great affection, even if his football is at times functional rather than spectacular. neil lennon strikes me as a man whose character is not especially suited to the championship

i'm elf-ein lusophonic (imago), Friday, 15 August 2014 21:16 (ten years ago)

I totally agree, a lower table championship club is more akin to the pressures of a top league 1 club. And a whole different skill-set is required.

Stead shouldn't be anywhere near any serious Championship, L1 or L2 starting XI right now, he is no K Phillips - he is not even a Nardiello. Even my step-father who used to compare Steadinho mk1 to Denis Law says he is "totally gone".

Kluivert/Offside Clyde dream team! Probably a more realistic option from the Dutch applicants is Mario Been but then again the PK rumour comes from Nixon of The Mirror who has called a lot of things correctly in the past. Why did you leave Huddersfield days after taking us into Division One in 1995? Had you been offered the Plymouth job?

I had a problem in the boardroom from just after Christmas that season and it was affecting us all. I had to put that behind me and concentrate on getting them up, but the board knew from February that I’d leave at the end of the season. They asked me if I’d reconsider the day after the Play-Off Final, but I’d already made up my mind. It was a personal thing that I don’t want to go into, but I was a bit headstrong at the time and we laugh about it now whenever I go back.

The ref had a stinker, constantly got in the way of play, ruled out a perfectly fine Wells goal. It should be confirmed on fl show that Wallace wasn't the last man for his red and Vaughan was dragged down in the box for what should have been a stonewall penalty. <3 Town for putting in such a determined performance in a completely unsporting 10 vs 12 travesty ò_ó But too many positives can be taken from today to dwell on that shitty ref! Tbf - totally dignified and honest post match reaction from Peeters.

Igor Vetokele's equaliser in the second minute of injury time for Charlton at Huddersfield sparked a remarkable £24,243.69 pay-out for one 50p Football punter.

tbf in one of his final games he kept a certain moneyed promotion-achieving team to zero shots on target. although you're right, that was his single idea; the late goal was mere predestined punctuation

his teams do sometimes run out of ideas when attacking, but he's 'still learning his trade' and hudds have plenty of forward talent

expect a certain directness and you won't be too miffed

Mammadov, who owns French League 1 side Racing Club Lens and crack Azerbaijan outfit FC Baku exchanged contracts with Owls overlord and saviour Milan Mandaric in June, but has been unable to fund the purchase of the shares. Manadaric is currently considering legal action, however, world events and sanctions against Russia and its allies could well have something to do with things. Mammadov, founded of Azerbaijan-based Baghlan Group and has had to deny reports that he had been held in custody in his homeland due to financial difficulties earlier in the summer. Lens, promotion to the top flight was temporarily suspended due to lack of funds promised by Mammadov and will struggle this year after being able to strengthen the squad. Mamadov is also a big sponsor of Athletico Madrid in Spain who have had to sell some big stars this season.

I am starting to to wonder if Wednesday are going to be the next crisis club, admittedly without much compassion.

The last time I went to Sixfields it literally started falling to pieces in the the wind, injuring people a couple of rows in front and the game was called off. I gather as soulless as the Ricoh is, it at least has adequate structural integrity to stay in one fucking piece on a windy day.

imago, Saturday, 13 September 2014 16:01 (ten years ago)

Hopefully Powell learned today that Peltier should only be used as cover for Smith at right back and you don't shift our creative ball player onto the wing to accommodate him in midfield where he is total rinse and mostly was in L1 as well. Also CP gets demerits for not starting with in-form Scannell, which is puzzling after he blocked his transfer window move to Millwall and has already said he rates him. Both teams were garbage today really and we got undone by a superb 35 yard wonder strike and a soft injury time penalty. Vaughan hobbled off injured again :( but at least Hudson looked solid.

xelab, Saturday, 13 September 2014 17:51 (ten years ago)

imago, Saturday, 13 September 2014 17:56 (ten years ago)

Both him + clayton went for a combined 2.25 mill and Coady/Butterfield cost about 600k, decent bit of transfer business for two players that would have certainly walked in the summer.

xelab, Saturday, 13 September 2014 18:14 (ten years ago)

coady's quality yeah

imago, Saturday, 13 September 2014 18:15 (ten years ago)

hudds were v unlucky on saturday according to my boro mate. that free kick was a beaut tho. some of brentford's football against brighton was just unreal. we're still going to concede lots of goals but the way warbs has us playing on the counter and passing it around, my god. odubajo is quality, and tarkowski at cb is an incredible player. what a time to be alive.

oppet, Monday, 15 September 2014 18:37 (ten years ago)

Karanka has stated they should have won 5-0 which is absolute bollocks - typical arsehole manager who has overspent trying big up his project. They had two threatening shots on target and one was a penalty. Fair play to Leadbitter though, brilliant goal and superb performance.

It struck me earlier that Dyche and Warbs probably had some overlap at Watford. The conversations they must've had...

(They might also have both worked under Mackay there, but my brain decided to gloss over that bit)

William Bloody Swygart, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 17:57 (ten years ago)

I've definitely seen warbs mention working with mackay. he and dyche are kindred spirits at least, and I anticipate some form of incredible partnership from them in the future - consecutive champions league wins, running the FA, tv pundit double act, etc.

CP had 7 defensive players against Millwall, it worked because Millwall were shit and Bunn supported Wells in the 1st half until Holt masterfully helped him close out the game. I don't think it will always be pretty and it might be close, but I think Town will stay up under Powell.

xelab, Monday, 29 September 2014 23:03 (ten years ago)

my favourite thing about being in the championship is being able to watch these streams with just stadium noise. decent game n all, even if we are behind to a shit penalty. toumani diagouraga is a great cult hero - runs around a lot, moments of intricate skill before falling over, wins a lot of soft fouls, comically bad finishing.

Wigan: Uwe Rosler says club 'hungover' from last season

Wigan Athletic manager Uwe Rosler believes a "hangover" effect from last season has contributed to their moderate start to this campaign. "This club had to go through an enormous amount of stress, physically, mentally - not one football team in Britain had been put under that sort of pressure and stress.

Another risible excuseplaination from Rosler, save it for the chairman when you are getting pumped pal!

The last fans' incident that embarrassed me was the ott thunderous ovation that G Holt received before he had even kicked a ball, it was like we had signed Aguero! Tbf I think the love has empowered him and there was a strong element of save us from Stead.

losing the odd game or three but playing without fear >>>> long unbeaten runs with far too many draws.

CP has taken over a team that was rife with factionalism + low self esteem. Despite a few early selection errors in a relatively short time he has turned them into a formidable, committed, hard working unit who can actually defend. Under Robins there would have been more chance of a clean sheet at Ewood Park than finding one in a Bradley Mills knocking shop. There is always a bloody nose coming up in this division but I am cursing the international break right now, just fucking momentum disruption

I think Blackpool will get paggered tommorow and the 5/6 on Town is quite generous, so I have already cursed it.

Chimp Arsons, Saturday, 18 October 2014 16:52 (ten years ago)

Very entertaining game today, really should have been 6 up after the half hour but then they got out the deck chairs and started sipping Pimms and ballwatching. After Blackpool got some wind in their sails they weathered it and closed the game out in satisfactory fashion. The emergence of Harry Bunn and a revitalised Scanz on the wings is one the most exciting developments since the Rhodes days.

xelab, Saturday, 18 October 2014 17:12 (ten years ago)

Need to get Bunn to sign a contract extension before he inevitably starts attracting the vultures.

Hyppia, Rosler and Adkins all seem to be on very thin ice right now. I can sense at least one of them going in the next week.

I can't understand why Birmingham would want replace a useless fucker like Clark with Robinson who is equally as inept as proven by years of L1 mediocrity despite an above average budget.

xelab, Tuesday, 21 October 2014 20:53 (ten years ago)

Or to be fair years of L1 underachievement ...

xelab, Tuesday, 21 October 2014 20:55 (ten years ago)

tbf we had a great start and then a couple of shockers, plus threw away a silly lead on Saturday. you could say similar about most of the top half teams but in different sequences. it looks like it's gonna be a ladder match of a season, yeah.

Jackett is more or less operating in uncharted waters now, obv Millwall had their moments but he's got (theoretically) a lot more resources than he's had in the past and this is going to be a test of just how good a manager he can be. obv i'm still really impressed with him.

Chimp Arsons, Tuesday, 21 October 2014 20:55 (ten years ago)

Robinson's been talked up for a few years now, but you're right that Birmingham aren't much of a step up in terms of what'll be available to him. which is fine by me cos y'know fuck Birmingham.

Chimp Arsons, Tuesday, 21 October 2014 20:57 (ten years ago)

I haven't forgot "We'll meet again.." and Trevor Francis's unsympathetic comments when we went down on the last day in '01, so yeah Fuck Brum.

lol i really like your hatred of bournemouth :D

i don't entirely understand it, suppose it's coz they're being bankrolled to fuck while the media narrative remains agog at their success

they don't seem like a horrible club

speaking of which, robbing leeds of the three at theirs is always a fine thing

imago, Wednesday, 5 November 2014 00:31 (ten years ago)

There is probably a blend of hypocrisy and nonsense to my hatred of Bournemouth which wouldn't stand up to reasonable scrutiny, but I still fucking hate them and about another hundred clubs! Just got no time for shitty no-mark seaside town clubs bankrolled by fucking oligarchs, spending 18 times their turnover and being proclaimed as plucky lil' underdogs whilst your own club has barely spent fuck all to honour FFP restrictions and jumped up little shits like Bosecombe head the the fucking table right now.

xelab, Wednesday, 5 November 2014 01:31 (ten years ago)

tbf it was only a few years ago that they were a selling club - hollands and wiggins both poached

now they're buying from us! mind you they've done well turning a few of our cast-offs (arter, francis) into proper players

dunno the details of their ownership/finances but it sounds like they've gotten a boost at the right time while hudds etc are doing it sustainably & reaping less spectacular if still noteworthy rewards

pleasingly, rotherham seem to be running out of puff

i probably have little time for a hundred clubs but my hatred is reserved for a select few, including quite a lot of the championship. in fact let's accumulate a championship hatred pantheon

norwich fans are largely entitled wankers
don't like blackburn one bit
forest can piss off these days
cardiff are horrid
awwww i can't hate wednesday too much, but they are awful lol, they're like our shadow
millwall obv
leeds double obv
rotherham have one of the biggest cunts in uk football in charge
fulham i can't hate but they really do have the most hilariously rubbish support in the world
birmingham are the worst club in britain maybe, at least outside the PL
blackpool have maybe the most loathsome owner in the football league

imago, Wednesday, 5 November 2014 02:01 (ten years ago)

seem to recall hudds throwing some bunce around under bruce

r|t|c, Wednesday, 5 November 2014 14:07 (ten years ago)

idk about rotherham tbh, steve evans is so absurdly vividly grotesque i'm now kinda rooting for him to disgust on the biggest stage

watched a bit of them vs leeds and they played some nice stuff. pringlle & revell were like the lower-league platonic ideal of tricky wand-footed left winger and strapping strong front man respectively

r|t|c, Wednesday, 5 November 2014 14:13 (ten years ago)

Evans was gracious on the Football League Show about the win they nicked from us so i got no problem with the dude

The Falun Gong Show (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 5 November 2014 21:26 (ten years ago)

xxp
That was the Rubery era (textbook deluded speculator type 90's chairman, made his dosh from Pace boxes) and we signed some fucking woeful players on £9k a week contracts before he did one and admin beckoned (although Ken Monkou was probably the most EPL standard player I ever saw at Town (for about 3 games until he didn't give a fuck anymore)) and we were probably despised at the time. Then Ian Ayre overruled Bruce and sold Stewart to Ipswich who then replaced him with a useless fucking crock called Martin Smith, then came another decade of L1 mediocrity! I remember us relegating QPR in the penultimate game that season and thinking we were home and dry and then going down on the last day. I was a betting shop manager at the time and there was controversy in the streets of Hudds cos in the pre betting exchange era people who had backed them to be relegated at 8/1-ish could have made more perming the teams that had to win to ensure our relegation. All they needed was at least a point against Brum and 90% of people knew they would fuck it up.

r|t|c, Friday, 7 November 2014 17:35 (ten years ago)

He has won the fans over recently after a ropey start during which even the local bbc commentary team were moaning about Dixon getting dropped for him. He has even won over the experts who dismissed him as shite from the one game they watched him last season. He is comfortably the best LB we have had in a decade and has a wicked long throw, there is no doubt he is a better passer and better defender than Dixon standard now. He just got called up for the U21's so perhaps his good work is getting him on the radar. I think you have a good player here who is still learning but rapidly improving.

xelab, Friday, 7 November 2014 19:53 (ten years ago)

Thinking about it some of the initial controversy over Robinson's signing was that it was made by the board before we had appointed a manager and there was some gossip that the terms of the loan deal are he has to start, not that it matters any more.

up to the point at which we switched off after equalising we played very well today, shit result in the end but it was played at such frenetic pace in both halves and was a decent game. just slightly marred by a homer who didn't mind Bunn getting dragged down in the box, mind you if Bunn stayed on his feet more he might get something when genuinely wronged. This Poyet loan seems unusual now, Hogg was fit to start, he didn't play and after the international break his stay will be nearly over.

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Darren Bent from Aston Villa ahead of Saturday's game with Fulham.

Bent arrives on an initial month's loan until the end of December having passed a medical at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre earlier today, before training with his new teammates. With Brighton expecting the biggest crowd of the season for the visit of Fulham this Saturday it is recommended you buy now to avoid disappointment.

not really sure how this rough patch will go with us - the usual suspects are already calling for everybody to be sacked, but the questions about how much Morgan is willing to spend are legit i think. i'd've took a finish around 10th at the start of the season so i'm not freaking out at all, but there's an ominous popped balloon feeling about us at the moment, and Jackett looks just a shade like he doesn't know how to change this around - for the first time since he's been in charge

xelab, Monday, 1 December 2014 23:09 (ten years ago)

I am convinced that Poyet going back to W Ham and Hogg returning from injury is the reason we won today. Poyet worked hard, but despite his evident qualities, he never settled in and the international break didn't help that cause.

At we least we beat you fair and square this time oppet. Re: The time Alan Lee mullered your keeper at the death!

Oh don't remind me about that Alan Lee goal! Good match yesterday. Powell had you set up well and you did us on the wings. Scannell was good and our defence was in a panic all match. I remember watching Scannell's brother play for us a few years back - one of those absolutely terrible non-footballers who pop up in league two before going back to the sunday leagues. Anyway, Udds is always a good day out. The people I got talking to in the pub afterwards seemed pretty positive about Powell and the rest of the season.

Gareth Roberts, who is a Texas based billionaire and boyhood Bulls/BPA fan has bought Bradford Park Avenue after failing to buy the Bulls last year. I think it is marvellous that a seriously wealthy benefactor who wants to invest in the area is guaranteed to have no interest in Leeds Utd and a deep seated loathing of Bradford City. Stans' fans have a loathing for City that is partly due to a certain self-centered Chairman who helped to vote them out of existence during the re-election era.

It will be interesting to see if he will bring the level of investment required to do a Fleetwood, as it is they are 22nd in Conf North and have lost generations of supporters to Leeds and Town, they have been a ghost of a club for decades.

There was intense hatred in the 90's, especially after Kevin Gray broke their star striker Watson's leg in a tackle that finished his career (it ended with £1m payout in court). Since they more or less became our feeder club the hatred is not so strong, but when they were lording it over us in the Prem with Carbone on 40 k pw there was envious hatred! We had a few spiteful derbies when they dropped to L1 but by then we were in slightly better shape than them and they just didn't seem like the hated foe of the 90's. We all hate Leeds more than each other really!

The Oldham Evening Chronicle says Oldham’s owner, Simon Corney, is believed to have quit the club in the wake of the threats following the Evans saga. Here’s what the story says:

LATICS was a club in crisis this afternoon after the deal for convicted rapist Ched Evans was sensationally halted and Simon Corney believed to have quit as chairman.

The striker, released halfway through a five-year prison sentence last October, was thought to have agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Evans was on the verge of being unveiled but Latics - besieged by national media - pulled out.

It is understood Corney’s decision to quit centres on personal threats to family members as the story has prompted polarised views on a national scale.

Nando's was one of the sponsors that distanced themselves from the club yesterday, via their 1.5m-follower Twitter account. Oh but I do miss those away days so much, always more enjoyable than the poor atmosphere at Leeds Rd and travelling to new grounds and drinking with decent company is always cool. xp Tim
Archibald Leitch knew how to design proper fucking football grounds! The JS stadium is a design nightmare. It faces south so your retinas/the players kicking off southwards, get burnt out by the low winter sun. The noise escapes from the gaps between the stands. The south stand allocated to away supporters has the best acoustics in the ground, hence often 400 away supporters making more noise than 10000. The south stand is like the old Cowshed at Leeds Road, the only good thing about this ground really!

Congrats on getting a good deal for Grimes, if you are going to cash in at least hold out for a decent price.

xelab, Thursday, 8 January 2015 21:46 (ten years ago)

Thanks - don't think Grimes was much on any Prem club's radar before the end of the last transfer window, he's been progressing so fast. So I don't know how far out lot held out, or how far there was more than one club prepared to bid that sort of amount. Truth told, I don't think we'd have been able to turn down any offer of £500k or more, given the shoestring the club's run on. It's nigh on impossible to break even at L2 level, too many effing "benefactors".

This cash stabilises things for a bit, enables some investment and (hopefully) makes our academy more attractive to talented kids. Not much of this cash will go straight to the first team. It's ok though, our beloved Ryan Harley's already back.

He's very good, really incredibly good for us. I think this will be good value for Swans, but obviously the step up brings a bunch of unknowables.

Tim, Thursday, 8 January 2015 22:11 (ten years ago)

Joel Lynch's spectacular overhead kick goal today was almost as good as that old Trevor Sinclair classic. The Wells/Vaughan partnership finally gets going in the transfer window with Burnley sniffing about, worst luck. Was delighted to see Deeney and Vydra barely troubling our defence today.

I think Wolves need for a striker right now is stronger than ours right now. Our manager is probably more focused on preparing for Vaughan's next injury or dealing with Nahki interest from Burnley, which would require 2 different solutions.

I bet your chairman isn't thrilled about Jackett already announcing it to Sky cameras.

It sounded a bit lucky today but it was an important win for us in our quest for mid-table entrenchment.

It looks like Powell has been knocked back on a few of his striker targets, I hope to god he doesn't end up pursuing a deadline day panic move for Leon Clarke. I just plucked this from thin air but could imagine it happening.

It has been a profitable transfer window, £350k for Ward, a rumoured £250k for Pelts, it would be remiss if there isn't incoming this week.

Turtleneck Work Solutions (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 11:44 (ten years ago)

I have had occasion to visit our friendly neighbours at the Plainmorgue from time to time.

Tim, Tuesday, 3 February 2015 13:46 (ten years ago)

What's it like? I'm heading there on Saturday for a bit of FA Trophy action. I hadn't actually realised quite how far away the south-west is.

Turtleneck Work Solutions (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 22:24 (ten years ago)

It's alright really, assuming you'll be in the away end the view's OK, my only real problem with it is that it's a long way from any half-way reasonable pub (or at least any pub which is open on days when Exeter play Torquay - Torbay council have a bit of a habit of being super-cautious when it come to our games). I suppose it's a fairy standard smallish lower league ground, with a bit more character than many.

Like most Exeter fans, I want Torquay to do alright in general, as long as they're doing less well than we are; I hope you stuff them in the Trophy though!

Tim, Tuesday, 3 February 2015 22:57 (ten years ago)

Cheers. Given what you've just said the answer to this next question is almost certainly 'no', but.... do you know a pub within reach of the ground that is likely to be showing the Spurs v Arsenal game on BT Sport on Saturday lunchtime?

Turtleneck Work Solutions (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 23:00 (ten years ago)

I'll ask our travel officer, he's usually pretty good for a recommendation. Do you have any particular needs (e.g. accessibility, real ale)?

Tim, Tuesday, 3 February 2015 23:15 (ten years ago)

Real ale would be nice, but I'm probably going to be driving all the way back to north-east London on the Saturday evening so I'll probably have to make do with a long drawn-out shandy.

Turtleneck Work Solutions (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 23:25 (ten years ago)

Here you go:

"Last time (last season of course) we visited both the George and the Dog and Duck on Babbacombe Road and both were very welcoming.

Dog & Duck, 70 Babbacombe Road, Torquay, TQ1 3SW 01803 323553

The George is around a ten minute walk away from the ground'. Located handily around the corner in Princes Street is the Hanburys Fish & Chip shop which has on occasion won national awards.

Further on at the bottom of Princes Street you will find the Buccaneer Inn. Not only a good pub serving St Austell Ales, but outside the front of the pub you can also enjoy some great views along the coast. (There is also plenty of street parking available in this area).

Also on Babbacombe Road is the Dog & Duck which welcomes away fans and also shows matches broadcast on SKY television."

Tell him to have a look at http://www.footballgroundguide.com/ for more details."

Club Statement

The Club is aware of some press speculation about the future of our Manager, Mark Warburton.

Given Mark’s increasing profile within the game, we recognise that he will deservedly have turned the heads of other clubs.
As with every other sensibly run club, we plan for various possible eventualities.

We are a progressive club who do talk to other people within the game to learn about other ways of doing things, and to consider novel strategic approaches to the game.

Those conversations continue internally, and are part of a healthy dialogue.

Football is sometimes called a village, and in any village, gossip and rumours can spread like wildfire, whether or not such rumours are true.
It would not be in the Club’s interests to disclose any of those discussions, but Brentford FC do want to confirm that Mark Warburton remains our manager.

The team’s performance has been magnificent this season and that is primarily down to Mark’s leadership.

Mark will continue to lead the club in its push for Premier League football.

At this critical stage of the season, we don’t propose to make any further statements in relation to these rumours.

this is maybe the most ridiculous thing to happen so far in a ridiculous season & i hope it truly destabilises brentford fc before saturday

Josh Whitehurst the endowed drummer and backing vocalist (imago), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 14:54 (ten years ago)

idk. looks like an adkins/pochettino situation - didnt work out so bad for cortese did it?

The Times has learnt that Matthew Benham, the club’s owner, has made it clear that he is determined to pursue a new direction despite Brentford’s excellent progress under Warburton, who has taken them from Sky Bet League One to fourth place in the Championship. Tonight, they are at home to Watford, among their rivals for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Warburton discovered via the Spanish media last week that Brentford had held talks with Paco Jémez, the Rayo Vallecano coach, about the manager’s job at Griffin Park. Sources in Spain have confirmed that a meeting between Benham, Cliff Crown, the Brentford chairman, and Jémez took place in Spain last week, with the former Deportivo La Coruña and Real Zaragoza centre back offered the chance to replace Warburton at the end of the season.

Warburton sought clarification over the past few days and is understood to be in no doubt that he will be leaving at the end of the season.

(the whimsical club statement itself is unquestionably ridiculous of course)

Josh Whitehurst the endowed drummer and backing vocalist (imago), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 15:05 (ten years ago)

I've been breathing into a paper bag all day.

Some of the stuff in the original story seems p far fetched. Warbs is obv on board with MB's modern approach and maybe he's leaving but I can't see it as a sacking.

Club statement is laughable and shows that some aspects of the club infrastructure are still amateurish.

Possible explanation is we've been doing some cack handed preparation for Warbs being headhunted by a big club or Rangers (the Scots version not our dear neighbours).

Adkins/Poch situation could be on the cards but I dunno. Apparently we've been talking to Paco at Rayo but I don't know anything about Spanish football so not sure of his pedigree.

Also some suggestion that Warbs will go back to being DoF cos mcpartland is not irreplaceable and is facing a perjury trial atm.

Fuck all this though.

oppet, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 14:56 (ten years ago)

What Warburton has done so far is far more impressive than Adkins achievement that was taking an FFP busting luxury squad up who were good enough to kick on.

Much as I got love for Warbz, and much as Saints did basically spend their way out of League One, this view does kiiinda gloss over the time Adkins got Scunthorpe from League Two to the Championship. And the time he got Scunthorpe back in to the Championship again. And kept them up. On what I'm willing to bet was a way smaller budget than Brentford (or any recent second-tier side with the possible exception of Yeovil) roll with. His Reading spell's pretty indefensible (albeit factoring in various boardroom implosions), but the feller's got bonafides.

(also re: Adkins/Poch working out well for Cortese; Cortese/Kramer's working out pretty great for Saints right now)

William Bloody Swygart, Thursday, 12 February 2015 04:09 (ten years ago)

i definitely wouldn't dispute that he did an amazing job at Scunny, it wasn't just Billy Sharp's goals either iirc, they were very much a side greater than their individual parts. But that Southampton side he took up was ridiculously talented, there probably HAS never been a better side to grace L1. Mind you saying that, Pards somehow managed to make it look like heavy lifting!

the warbs story is still more extraordinary than the media are painting it out to be i'd say, it's watershed stuff imo

like the assumed narrative is temporarily fortunate english lumpen dickhead sidelined by euro technocrats, what a shame modern fitba is rubbish etc

but warbs is also the most progressive english manager by some distance; already the closest there is to the dreaded continental "head coach", already working with a sporting director, already a committed youth maven, already focused on value investment, already wedded to a technical style of play

and yet despite all this it was his unforch fate to come up against surely the most hyper hardline moneyball acolyte there's ever been in fitba, for whom warbs is still too old skool, still doesnt trust the mathematics enough, still wants to see players with his own eyes before buying them, and all that other retrograde carbon-based lifeform shit

always thought we should have had a proper ilf thread for football's tumescent statscock but tbh there's nothing to say for us normz is there, just gawping at the jargon and graphs you find littered around done by some american guy when not miladying at a craft beer festival

r|t|c, Thursday, 19 February 2015 11:31 (ten years ago)

great post, great story, can only hope Warbs' career keeps rising

Benham seems to be taking a stupidly dogmatic stance here, maybe instead of a head coach he intends to be the first club run by software

english fatuus (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 19 February 2015 11:50 (ten years ago)

can see Warbs at Leicester (or, as earlier, Watford) next season, maybe even Villa when they fire Sherwood. Or...Fulham? Juuuust kidding. rtc clearly angling for W London internecine shenanigans of a difft nature mind

he seems like an owner's dream tbh, but Benham is clearly shooting for the noon here

I've not posted about The Nowhere Men here for at least a month or two, but it's a pretty great insight into both Warbs and Benham (and loads of other folks) - quite essential.

William Bloody Swygart, Thursday, 19 February 2015 13:31 (ten years ago)

Read that on your recommendation WBS, it really is excellent, although it's clear that Comolli really doesn't understand moneyball. Obviously football is harder to find useful measurable data on compared to baseball where every at bat has an outcome, so how to go about finding undervalued statistics seems v difficult.

yeah totally! i mean warbs may yet prove to be a flash in the pan, like idk a fancier karl robinson or whatever, but on this evidence as it stands you can only conclude benham would tell pep guardiola to sling his hook too

r|t|c, Thursday, 19 February 2015 15:24 (ten years ago)

guess from his story u can kinda see why he'd have this blank logic. no leap of faith, nothing to prove, just stats

http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/dec/27/brentford-buzz-bee-mark-warburton-matthew-benham

I first heard of Benham when I interviewed Marcus du Sautoy, a professor of mathematics at Oxford University and an Arsenal obsessive, for an Observer article on the data revolution in football. Du Sautoy and Benham studied physics together, and after university Benham went to work in the City for a hedge fund. He got bored with that and - despite having placed only a few bets in his life -he became a full-time gambler. He did well enough to set up a company, Smartodds, which sells statistics and tips to professional gamblers, and that in turn did well enough that in 2012 he bought Brentford, the team he has supported since childhood.

r|t|c, Thursday, 19 February 2015 15:26 (ten years ago)

it's that same unshakeable faith in the stats that periodically fucks up stock exchanges, forex markets etc too

english fatuus (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 19 February 2015 15:30 (ten years ago)

heh i'm sure warbs would appreciate the irony in that somewhat at least

r|t|c, Thursday, 19 February 2015 15:35 (ten years ago)

idk what to think any more.

something obviously went wrong in january when the transfer window closed and we had no cover in any position except attacking midfield flair players. after that we were never going to keep up the promotion chase - i know 'but burnley...' etc, but they had ings and we don't. benham made clear he wanted to spend, but nothing happened. most of the blame was with mcpartland as sporting director, and he's the one now on gardening leave, but warbs was part of that.

warbs was on a rolling contract for a reason and i think most people expected him to move back to sporting director after a season of gamely having a go. obv he's earned the right to ask for a manager role now but benham seems a very long-term thinker and wasn't going to change his mind after one good half season.

the whole benham period has had an element of 'we're losing our identity' fear mixed in with the hype. the new stadium was a big part of that but most people accepted it as a necessary move. all this going on has killed off a lot of the optimism. stats lads are obv the worst thing about football. i guess i hoped, and still do, that benham is moneyballism with a human face.

anyway over the summer we'll get this spanish guy in, or some other spanish guy, but he definitely will be spanish, as head coach. we'll get a sporting director who's never been involved with football in his life. we'll get a couple of defenders and a striker, and we'll be fucking fine. warbs can turn a struggling epl side into europa league hopefuls and everyone's happy.

On paper this looks a possible bore draw, but on the other hand both sides are -9 & have about as many clean sheets between them as you'd find in a Woolwich knocking shop. Then there is the Powell factor as he seems slightly hurt by the manner of his departure and might be a bit pumped up. Such a trappy and unpredictable one is this and the the standard 6/4 12/5 7/4 the bookies are offering is about right for this type of game.

Gianni Paladini is in negotiations to take over at Bradford City, the Windhill clique reminiscing about those heady Benito Carbone days already.

In other Bradford City news the Graun serialises a book that although it is written by a survivor of the '85 fire, it is pure wrong minded libel against a dead person that is purely based on circumstantial evidence. I hate saying that and feel sorry for the author, but he needs to realise that Mill fires were a symptom of the era back then with oil-damp wood + ropey post-war electrical installations, that were often subject to a dangerous amount of additional spurs, without regulation. There isn't really an arch baddie mill owner who is willing to murder a whole football stand for an insurance claim.

It seems an odd thing to serialise unless there is more than just circumstantial evidence behind it, tbh. I've not seen any convincing argument for why the fire would need to have been started when the stadium was full if it was an insurance thing.

Ethnically Ambiguous / 28 - 45 (ShariVari), Wednesday, 15 April 2015 21:21 (ten years ago)

Presumably because if you're trying to make it look like the fire was accidentally started by a fag end dropping through a gap in the stand onto a pile of rubbish it needs to happen when there are actually people in that stand.

Must have been quite something if it managed to damage the reputation of Owen Oyston more than his rape conviction did.

Evens on Charlton tomorrow is a knocking price considering six of the Leeds' Italian contingent; Silvestri, Doukara, Antenucci, Bellusci, Del Fabro + Cani have all gone on strike and declared themselves unavailable, serious trouble at t'mill since Thompson got suspended, should be truly odds on to beat that shambles right now. Sorry for cursing it imago!

(Meme From) Essex Press (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 26 April 2015 15:49 (ten years ago)

Tranmere going down gives me mixed emotions, it barely seems 9 years since Brian Little was making condescending comments about what a decent little club we were after they thrashed us. I also remember a tuesday night game against them that (I think) started with an awesome Pav Abbott magic thunderbolt from nothing and ended in an unfairly against the run 3-1 defeat. I used to hate the poxy little Woolybacks, but now I have the luxury of condescending pity etc, but I do genuinely feel some pity for their plight. When this inevitably happens to Bournemouth though, fuck them forever.

I might be getting a season ticket again after yesterday, the main result for me was getting my kid Alex into attending the game and he was asking to go again afterwards which is a new development. There weren't many problems apart from when he was slouched back loudly chomping nuts during the minute's silence which did garner a few irritated stares but no follow through. It was a good day and I feel very positive about where Town are at right now. We might be mid table shit but have some decent young players, whether they push on or do more of the same, it is still quite entertaining these days.

oppet, Saturday, 2 May 2015 16:08 (ten years ago)

i felt we'd blown it when we didn't beat Ipswich a fortnight ago, then last weekend with 5 minutes to go Derby were losing and Ipswich were drawing and we were back in with a shout, but by full time last week it was nigh impossible again.

today was entertaining enough, this season has been about as good as anybody could reasonably ask of Jackett. if Sako goes we will miss him, and tho he isn't the world's greatest he has been the engine for us more often than not over the last 2 seasons. from what i've seen he's been immense again today, if that's his last match he did himself justice.

i think we're entitled to expect a reasonable investment in the summer and a proper go at promotion next season - the next couple of months should make clear whether Jackett is a good judge of the players he wants or whether Morgan and Moxey are gonna cheapskate us to oblivion

Been around all season in some capacity but nobody seems to know much about it. I think he's had more of a role at midtjylland this season (who are about to win the Danish league). I guess he'll have a more significant role at Brentford next year. Probably fair to assume that knutson's failed attempt to strengthen our squad in January was the cause of warbs' decision to mutually decide the new structure wasn't for him.

oppet, Thursday, 7 May 2015 09:52 (ten years ago)

"The key thing to understand about analytics is we are talking about a model. It is not reality. It is a model of reality. Too many think models are the truth. You absolutely a hundred per cent still need the old school input from scouts, just not on its own. There is room for subjective judgement, as long as it is part of a bigger picture."

Blackpool have just shipped out 17 players, if those Oystons aren't going to finance a reasonable squad rebuild again then they should just throw the fucking club out of the league, just save us all (including the Blackpool fans) from this travesty. efreet liberal (Noodle Vague), Friday, 3 July 2015 14:57 (nine years ago)

Probably is. He is a very influential player for such a young un, got real character, born leader future captain type, reads the game well, always trying lift the team when they go behind, keeps it simple + effective. We probably haven't seen the best of him but he is only 22.

We have got in the swing already, wins against Malvern and FCUM.

Wheels came off last night, lost 6-0 to a West Brom XI - which, to be fair, did include Stephane Sessegnon. Who, to be equally fair, cost 30x what it cost to take the entire club out of receivership. And, to be even fairerer, was absolute push and looked like we were his level (i.e. 8 leagues below).

But 1800 people on a Tuesday night friendly isn't awful considering the league we are in has average gates of 100.

Hope they fail big time.

v much enjoying brentford charlton brighton and occasional others' progressive internationalist flavours. all much funner than it used to be

not just flotsam either but some fairly impressive proximal epl pull too with bjelland vibe chery hemed etc... think kodija at bristol city in partic might tear the league a new one

meanwhile gibson's boner rekindling continues with a £12m bid for rhodes

You can take the boy out of Ayrshire...

Possibly Fingers (Tom D.), Friday, 24 July 2015 14:15 (nine years ago)

Story must have been written by a Scot, this is priceless:

"Broadfoot was born into a Protestant family in Ayrshire and is known to be a staunch supporters of certain cultural traditions relating to his religion."

Possibly Fingers (Tom D.), Friday, 24 July 2015 14:19 (nine years ago)

Pulis told Albion’s website on Tuesday: “I had a chat with him and explained what we do as a football club and the way we are and I think he’s fine with everything.

“He’s got to turn towards the flag like everybody else has and he recognises that.

“So hopefully we’ve nipped it in the bud and we can get on with our things and he can get on with his things.”

r|t|c, Friday, 24 July 2015 15:34 (nine years ago)

"Broadfoot was born into a Protestant family in Ayrshire and is known to be a staunch supporters of certain cultural traditions relating to his religion."

this is the most perfect, wryly humorous euphemism for "Broadfoot is a dirty orange bastard".

Le Fondre undergoing a medical at the Wolves allegedly

realistically he's cover for Dicko and Afobe but i've always had a soft spot for the lad and will be pretty chuffed if he's in gold and black next season

A goal every odd game at Bolton wasn't bad work for a faded journeyman, he can still do a job - although he was a tosser for turning us down for Bolton. I read somewhere that Bolton fans were trying to crowdfund the permanent signing of him and had raised £645, obv they are as clued up as Gartside on the economics of football.

xelab, Monday, 3 August 2015 17:30 (nine years ago)

confirmed! so much better than a faded journeyman imo, but i'll allow for your bitterness xe :p

the lion tweets tonight (Noodle Vague), Monday, 3 August 2015 19:37 (nine years ago)

I have always rated him tbh. I still have photos somewhere of a day out at Spotland where he tore us a new arsehole in a pre-season 3-0 defeat. He reneged on a verbal agreement in the Jan window to join Lennon, so yay bitterness! As a squad signing that is very good because apart from his Cardiff nightmare he always scores and will put pressure on Dicko and Afobe.

xelab, Monday, 3 August 2015 20:14 (nine years ago)

yeah, he shd be suited to the way we play along the deck too. alongside our 17 year-old wonderkid Bright Enobakhare we've got a shit-hot-looking attack now, no kiss of death.

if we could get a loan of this young Liverpool winger that's been mentioned, Sheyi Ojo, then i reckon the promotion challenge is feasible. really need to replace Kevin Mac in the end i think, whether he agrees a new contract or not, but Coady looks to have plenty in him.

there are about 15 teams who have assembled promotion squads

imago, Monday, 3 August 2015 20:40 (nine years ago)

none of them are leeds

imago, Monday, 3 August 2015 20:41 (nine years ago)

According to the bookies Charlton, Town and Rotherham are going down this season. Ffs even franchise are fancied to do better. Obv Bristol City fans on the glue and meth is the only reason they have been backed into 20/1.

xelab, Monday, 3 August 2015 20:52 (nine years ago)

it's cool he's really overrated

our new CM signings are kinda fearsome

very, very keen for saturday, shame i'll be playing cricket. although perhaps it'll be another charlie austin one-man show as a parting gift to his faithful

imago, Wednesday, 5 August 2015 14:12 (nine years ago)

i like leroy but in his own amiable way he's kinda more invidious than adel ever was. has the talent and frame to be whatever he wants to be, chooses to float around wishing for #10, never ever tracking back and cunting the occasional piledriver. we're all fond of a free spirit but help out m8

otoh i do remember someone on a mb comparing him to mikele leigertwood early on and that sort of slanderous tar doesnt come off easy

r|t|c, Wednesday, 5 August 2015 16:54 (nine years ago)

generally i have nowt but unentertaining equanimity to offer right now sorry. no idea who's staying, who's playing, what the plan is on or off the pitch

charlie is woefully out of shape tho, i shouldnt worry

r|t|c, Wednesday, 5 August 2015 16:59 (nine years ago)

so is tony watt

doesn't mean either of them can't do something drastic on a sixpence tho

imago, Wednesday, 5 August 2015 17:08 (nine years ago)

also, sky's championship tv listings have leeds 5 times by the end of november (or was it december) and us precisely 0

fuckingdisgrace.gif

no biggie, but if this opening fixture doesn't scream out 'televise!' then i'm not sure any of our fixtures do

imago, Wednesday, 5 August 2015 17:10 (nine years ago)

It is fucking ridiculous, there must be some Lilyshite scum who has a say in the tv fixtures at Sky. I can't say I'm bothered our home game against them is on, there is too much unpleasantness around this game for my delicate sensibilities these days and there is a risk of getting locked in the ground for half an hour afterwards.

xelab, Wednesday, 5 August 2015 17:42 (nine years ago)

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/jordan-rhodes-to-middlesbrough-blackburn-rovers-reject-14m-offer-for-scotland-striker-10440233.html
Blackburn resist a £14 mill offer for Rhodes, we have a 20% of anything in excess of the 8 we sold for sell-on clause. We still have pretty much the same defence that shipped 75 goals last season and need a CB so please sell.

xelab, Wednesday, 5 August 2015 20:00 (nine years ago)

I always thought he would be in the big-time by now, not plotting another sideways move in the Champ.

xelab, Wednesday, 5 August 2015 20:05 (nine years ago)

that whole scenario is so pathetic in the true sense

the lion tweets tonight (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 5 August 2015 20:13 (nine years ago)

He might yet become one of the most highly paid and clinical finishers never to play in the top flight. I have given up caring and just want them to sell before his stock goes like the weimar mark. But you are right it is pathetic.

xelab, Wednesday, 5 August 2015 20:35 (nine years ago)

in your position i'd wanna maximize the return, but a 14 million deal between two clubs who look no more likely to have promotion chances after it's done, and Rhodes's never knowing whether he'd cut it in the top flight...

the lion tweets tonight (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 5 August 2015 21:04 (nine years ago)

We've made our most important signing in advance of the league kick-off tomorrow:

http://www.herefordfc.co.uk/2015/08/06/bulls-add-pedigree-with-ronaldo-signing/

1300 season tickets sold and another 2200 home fans with tickets for the match. 2000 tickets for Tuesday's game against Stourport, whose normal gate is around 100.

The league have set up a crisis working group to help sides that have no idea how to deal with these kind of numbers. The FA have been no help, saying a penalty has to be enacted for it to means something (which is fair enough) and that the teams just just revel in the big payday.

suffeeciant attreebution (aldo), Friday, 7 August 2015 11:34 (nine years ago)

Your new signing would probably skin Hudson for pace. Good luck to the Bulls this season, it wasn't that long ago we were both in L1 and Lionel Ainsworth had a blinder against us and then unfortunately we signed him:(

Rumours that QPR have enquired about Smithies, would be sad to see him leave - our goals against would be a lot worse without him and he has been so solid + consistent for years now.

xelab, Friday, 7 August 2015 15:15 (nine years ago)

we're just punting hopeful 1m bids for someone half decent to play backup to green. no one's going to bite

brighton forest has been reassuringly average. antonio on the break is dougie's plans a thru z. gulls more enterprising but wishy-washy, can't remember if rohan ince sits or plays box to box but he should probably replace one of kayal and stephens

bruno greer dunk bong is a funny backline though

r|t|c, Friday, 7 August 2015 19:46 (nine years ago)
