corbyn's gallus (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 11 August 2015 18:15 (nine years ago)

expressing my delight at finally having a new thread LIVE and DIRECT from a bustling McDiarmid Park!

It's not raining. There is that.

michaellambert, Tuesday, 11 August 2015 18:34 (nine years ago)

I like the new yellow match ball. A bright and positive addition to this seasons SPFL.

michaellambert, Tuesday, 11 August 2015 18:35 (nine years ago)

got to say im not really very excited about the spfl this season. other than the fact that i'll actually get to go to a game for the first time since the 2011/12 season when i come hame for a wee visit next month #yas really hoping for champions league qualification from celtic. get that, and don't get humbled in the group stage, and i'll be very content with the season.

anticipating the title-race - and i don't think it's wrong to use that term, aberdeen spent most of last season within striking distance, although they were ultimately comfortably bested - being much less close this year. deila's been around for a wee bit now, and should be able to set-up a team to grind out the results, rack up the points.

it's nice (i think) to have hearts back in the top-flight.

yeah, st johnstone v ross county is on, i'd forgotten, enjoy the game Michael. Would be watching the Dundee derby if i could.

corbyn's gallus (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 11 August 2015 18:37 (nine years ago)

It's an easy game to forget - looks like a lot of our support may have done so! It's a pleasant enough evening to be outdooors and I'm just hoping for something better than Saturday's efforts.

I'm feeling a little fatigued with it too, did deliberate over renewing my season ticket but went for it.

Good to have a Dundee Derby so early.

I thought Aberdeen put a good effort in last season, the 17 point gap maybe implies otherwise. Ultimately fell short in the games where it counted - on the other hand, that's where Celtic proved their mettle.

michaellambert, Tuesday, 11 August 2015 18:45 (nine years ago)

celts trolling gers by going after scot allan. although they really are in dire need of defensive cover and a striker rather than another midfielder.

corbyn's gallus (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 13 August 2015 17:58 (nine years ago)

Allan began his career in Scotland with Dundee United,

Global scouting network in action.

passive aggressive DN (onimo), Thursday, 13 August 2015 21:04 (nine years ago)

Can't help feeling that all this gloating about Allan

1) reinforces same club same history old firm rivalry shite and
2) masks that we're selling our best players for millions and buying Scottish Championship level players for (relative) buttons.

ailsa, Saturday, 15 August 2015 13:21 (nine years ago)

I should probably delete that, but I think I'll just leave it as a testament to the shambolic nature of everything to do with Scottish football.

Anyway, I had no idea who Scott Allan was until last week. Is he actually any good?

Jozo Šimunović
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jozo Šimunović (born 4 August 1994) is a Croatian footballer currently playing for Celtic. Jozo or Provo as he is known to his friends recently joined the IRA when he first heard the rebel songs on his iPod on his flight over to Glasgow. He was heard singing in first class "they stood beside their leader the gallant Bobby Sands MP" he was then escorted from the plane when he kicked up fcuk because they had ran out of Magners "which is a good Provo drink"

passive aggressive DN (onimo), Sunday, 30 August 2015 23:00 (nine years ago)

Ryan Christie. Just what we need, another wee midfieldy guy.

ailsa, Monday, 31 August 2015 09:56 (nine years ago)

Rumours the dons are close to signing stevie may. They're building quite the squad.

sktsh, Monday, 31 August 2015 17:02 (nine years ago)

Nelson's comments on Collum amused me, unsurprised that they haven't provoked the furore they would if he was the manager of a certain other club.

I like Stevie May, good SPFL striker. Not too surprised it didn't work out down south for him.

you too could be called a 'Star' by the Compliance Unit (jim in glasgow), Monday, 31 August 2015 19:39 (nine years ago)

Celtic's transfer window has been fairly hilarious in its ineptitude but I'm sort of not against the amassing of scottish prospects, just wish it was joined with buying some established players to fit key positions (defence, goalscorer).

you too could be called a 'Star' by the Compliance Unit (jim in glasgow), Monday, 31 August 2015 19:41 (nine years ago)

LEFT BACK. WE NEED A LEFT BACK.

(and not a "can also play at left back" left back. An actual left back)

ailsa, Monday, 31 August 2015 20:46 (nine years ago)

I've heard Robbie Neilson say before about practising for the eventuality of playing with ten men (against Sevco, I believe). Can't understand why the referees aren't closing ranks round Collum and going on strike. Isn't their integrity being questioned?

Stevie May's going to Preston, I think.

ailsa, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 09:43 (nine years ago)

Hibs in for Islam Feruz? lol, good luck with that.

ailsa, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 11:27 (nine years ago)

May to Preston done. Glad he's sticking at it in the Championship, though wish he'd stayed another season at Saints. His goals combined with last season's defence would have been great.

michaellambert, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 17:45 (nine years ago)

celtic weakened, Aberdeen strengthened this transfer window. the title race is on! (not really)

you too could be called a 'Star' by the Compliance Unit (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 1 September 2015 18:48 (nine years ago)

Can't understand why the referees aren't closing ranks round Collum and going on strike. Isn't their integrity being questioned?

Ranks closing, strikes not yet on cards.

"The Scottish Senior Football Referees Association (SSFRA) is compelled to express its disappointment at the ongoing trend of personal and unjust criticism towards our most senior match officials."

Remember one of the refs being criticised personally is Son of Dallas - who allegedly apparently ahem ahem not-saying-it's-true only ever reached the senior level because his dad was ahem cough "improving" his assessments when he was reffing at numpty level.

passive aggressive DN (onimo), Tuesday, 1 September 2015 21:09 (nine years ago)

The first time I was aware of Son of Dallas was on this board - I believe Scotstvo saw him refereeing Pollok and was not terribly complimentary about him.

Any other transfers of note? I know Ryan Christie's straight back up the A9 again.

ailsa, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 22:08 (nine years ago)

We've signed an 18 year old midfielder for the rest of the season who was previously at Stirling Albion.

In fairness most of our development side is now out on loan.

Looks like there will be a meltdown if Danny Swanson isn't signed, given that he's now been released by Coventry.

I don't understand Killie loaning out a young goalie to Derby County.

michaellambert, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 22:11 (nine years ago)

We sold VVD and sent O'Connell out on loan, which I think leaves us with a centre hoff pairing of any two from Jozo Simunovic (if we have actually signed him), Efe Ambrose (bomb scare) and Dedryk Boyata (see Efe Ambrose).

Oh, and I suppose Charlie Mulgrew is as good an option there as anywhere else (as good = as bad, logic fans).

I think our current centre forward options are:
- Leigh Griffiths

passive aggressive DN (onimo), Tuesday, 1 September 2015 23:02 (nine years ago)

Ach, be plenty exercise for Craig Gordon with that lot in front of him. And for my drinking arm.

Still, we've got tons of midfielders, eh?

*cries*

Simunovic is definitely in, btw. Um, yay? (I still haven't read a single positive thing about him)

ailsa, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 23:08 (nine years ago)

I took a quick look for Simunovic videos - found multiple copies of the same o.g.

passive aggressive DN (onimo), Wednesday, 2 September 2015 20:37 (nine years ago)

Ronnie going for a more midfield-centric version of the classic 4-6-0?

michaellambert, Wednesday, 2 September 2015 20:50 (nine years ago)

Aye, we're a sore Leigh Griffiths away from that very line-up. Though I'm not convinced we have four actual defenders any more.

For the record, i'm disappointed in McLean for thar miss and the whole team for yet again failing to keep a first clean sheet of the season. Especially against lower league opposition.

michaellambert, Tuesday, 22 September 2015 23:45 (nine years ago)

Ross County could have a great season if they continue to play well the whole way through, rather than the usul half.

It's taken 15 months and umpteen shambolic Euro ties but some people are starting to catch up.

Ronny Deila is a fucking joke of a manager. He consistently picks the wrong team and/or the wrong tactics and can't motivate his players or keep them fit. What aspects of football management is he getting right?

He might well win a treble this season. I'd still sack him. I think anyone with two years of Champ Manager under their belt could win a treble in this country with that budget/squad.

posted missing (onimo), Friday, 6 November 2015 13:15 (nine years ago)

That was a fucking shambles last night.

I really wanted to like Ronny Deila. He seemed like a good guy with a ton of good ideas. He had a wee period when he looked like he was going to turn it round. But naw, he's crap.

ailsa, Friday, 6 November 2015 14:17 (nine years ago)

He's certainly doing his bit to raise the profile of Norwegian clubs in the rest of Europe.

Caput Johannis in Disco (Tom D.), Friday, 6 November 2015 15:49 (nine years ago)

The problem with sacking Ronny D is who goes next? One of the advantages he had is that, while everyone got to go "who the fuck is this?", he was unknown enough that no one could say he was shite from the off - they had to have him prove it. Name any realistic managerial candidate and 75% of Celtic supporters will point out why he's shite. It doesn't matter anyway, cos no one decent in their right mind would come. Meanwhile, the ghost of Rangers, declared skint the other day, and with their former selves finally officially cheats, look like they're gonna squirm into the top division, and then who knows what? People have been saying since the last lot went bankrupt that it would happen to the new ones, but it's easy to see them just trundling on, somehow. I wouldn't be surprised if, despite all the well-blogged financial turmoil, they end up winning the league against an under-prepared and ill-managed Celtic in the next few years. Then everything's back to how it should be.

nu-gers financials are in a mess as well, don't think they'll threaten celtic in the immediate future, possibly never gain.

so continued dominance of the spfl and embarrassment in european qualifiers/europa league group stages in perpetuity for celtic

you too could be called a 'Star' by the Compliance Unit (jim in glasgow), Friday, 6 November 2015 23:14 (nine years ago)

and ronny deila is obviously not up to much. his youth and scandinavianness seemed to lull people into a false sense of him being progressive and perhaps a change in philosophy and approach was just taking some time to set in. but it seems like his fitness methods are ill-conceived rather than an improvement, and his team selection is woeful and tactical nous minimal.

no point in punting though, we will not get anyone significantly better

you too could be called a 'Star' by the Compliance Unit (jim in glasgow), Friday, 6 November 2015 23:17 (nine years ago)

Did see a usually sensible Celtic supporting pal on Twitter trot out the old "we need some competition".

Caput Johannis in Disco (Tom D.), Friday, 6 November 2015 23:30 (nine years ago)

nu-gers financials are in a mess as well, don't think they'll threaten celtic in the immediate future, possibly never gain.

Yeah, I guess, this is the dream - 10 in a row, 20 in a row - but the thing is multiple people in the know keep saying Sevco are done for, and then they keep on going. Their accounts have them needing £2.5m to make the end of the season, but I remember something like that a year ago, and the year before that - and all this stuff will hold them back a bit - but it looks like they're coming up nonetheless.

Eyeball Kicks, Saturday, 7 November 2015 00:51 (nine years ago)

Great high tempo inventive start that disappeared as soon as Hearts put one long ball behind our back fannies. I saw mostly negatives after that. I think I need to stop watching Deila's Celtic.

ilxors ananimus (onimo), Sunday, 27 December 2015 18:21 (nine years ago)

Yeah you were completely on top first twenty minutes, but we came right back into it I thought. Gordon's save was terrific. Think a point each was about right.

sktsh, Sunday, 27 December 2015 19:03 (nine years ago)

Aye, you were well worth the point - totally sussed out how to get in and around our pish defence. Didn't see last week's debacle, but I'm not a huge fan of watching Celtic these days.

Colin Kazim-Richards :-(

Celtic have signed Colin Kazim-Richards on a two and a half year deal.

Actually feel like the board are trolling at this point.

Cornelius Pardew (jim in glasgow), Monday, 1 February 2016 19:31 (nine years ago)

This is probably unpopular with 99% of the support or so. Can't think of a less popular signing that Celtic have made in my entire life.

Cornelius Pardew (jim in glasgow), Monday, 1 February 2016 19:32 (nine years ago)

It's conceivable that we might field an 11 featuring Carlton Cole and Colin Kazim-Richards. What a time to be alive.

Cornelius Pardew (jim in glasgow), Monday, 1 February 2016 19:45 (nine years ago)

I thankfully never saw a second of the game, but I phoned my dad when I saw the score and my mum wouldn't let me speak to him because he'd only just got his heart rate and blood pressure back to an acceptable level (he'd turned off before the end and didn't know we'd scored, though I suspect my mum going "oh did it finish 2-1, that's not as bad" probably set him back off again).

I can't even summon enthusiasm for a proper moan. I just hate this and want it to stop. Manager, board, players, scouts, everyone. Just go away.

the inevitability of the promotion of rangers and the return next season to the eternal "old firm" soap opera really leaves me with a feeling of bored dread.

i mean - ignoring for now the fact that celtic have contrived through consistent downsizing to create a title race with aberdeen this season - a celtic dominated spfl for perpetuity frankly isn't that exciting either, but a few years away from the regular glasgow derbies has let me reflect on how i really don't need that kind of animosity in my life.

I'm totally assuming full Highlander bragging rights for cup wins over the last twelve months, even though I really hate Caley Thistle so much that I was actively supporting Falkirk. So, aye, well done Ross County. You made my old man very happy indeed. Though any more trophy wins and they might take down the photo of my him with the North of Scotland Cup that apparently still lurks within whatever they're calling Victoria Park these days.

Jackson Irvine's hair, though. Seriously. That's not a good look for Easter Ross where even mullets and stonewashed denim are probably looked at with a degree of envy.

This post from me from August:

anticipating the title-race - and i don't think it's wrong to use that term, aberdeen spent most of last season within striking distance, although they were ultimately comfortably bested - being much less close this year. deila's been around for a wee bit now, and should be able to set-up a team to grind out the results, rack up the points.

Lennon is a free agent after leaving English Championship side Bolton Wanderers but is not the only potential candidate.

Roy Keane has been mentioned as a possible replacement, while two other former Celtic players - David Moyes and Malky Mackay - have not distanced themselves from the job in recent weeks.

;_;

Romeo Daltrey (Tom D.), Wednesday, 20 April 2016 11:23 (nine years ago)

I will run several miles away from Celtic Park if McKay or Keane (or Lennon) get the job. I feel a bit sorry for Ronny - he seems a decent bloke, but the job was clearly very wrong for him, and he for it. Still, not exactly gutted to see him go.

ailsa, Wednesday, 20 April 2016 12:51 (nine years ago)

The problems at Celtic go much higher than the manager, but he had to go.

I wouldn't let him see the season out - if you can't trust a manager to overcome a poor championship team (and they really were pish - we played badly and still got a draw, hit the woodwork twice and missed the sitter of all sitters) how can you trust him to overcome Hearts and Aberdeen to crawl over the line?

Our senior players are a shower of shit who decided long ago they weren't going to support the manager. Scott Brown in particular is taking the absolute piss.

Didn't know we were well off with Lennon tbh.

punnerist spoon here (onimo), Wednesday, 20 April 2016 15:50 (nine years ago)

the disillusionment in the fanbase is running wild right now, feel like celtic either need a really promising managerial appointment - which i don't even think is feasible for financial reasons tbh - or a root and branch shake-up of the management - i.e. lawell out.

also i must confess soothsayer powers. my alarm woke me to go down to the CSC on sunday to watch the game, had a feeling that it would be crap and/or celtic would lose and went back to sleep for a few hours.

If Deila was to go now, would you trust Collins and Kennedy to limp us over the line? I wouldn't. We just need to brave this out, but they REALLY need to be confirming a replacement right now to give the new chap time to identify players and decide where we're going next.

BBC pre-match coverage a quite horrific homage to "the journey". Featuring precisely no mentions of liquidation and quite a lot about relegation, I imagine.

Am I not right in saying that sometime we get as little as fifteen minutes pre-match coverage, and not this two-hour love-in? Still, Englandshire is getting about six hours of this bollocks. Rangers finds it incomprehensible that no one, either from within the Scottish FA or Hibernian Football Club, has condemned Hibernian’s supporters following the violent scenes at the end of yesterday’s Scottish Cup final when Rangers players and members of our backroom staff were physically and verbally assaulted. We have not even had the courtesy of any contact whatsoever from Hibernian to ask after the wellbeing of those who were attacked by their club’s supporters. There must be a full independent investigation into the shameful scenes at Hampden. Rangers is also at a complete loss to understand why certain individuals have hastily attempted to gloss over the appalling events which unfolded at the end of Saturday’s final.

No matter how many times Hibernian’s chairman and Scottish FA vice-chairman, Rod Petrie, and certain other biased commentators wish to play down Saturday’s mayhem and violence, the truth must not be distorted. What unfolded on Saturday cannot and must not be put down to exuberance. That is a complete insult to Rangers, our supporters, and those individuals who were intimidated and attacked.

It was clear to most of those who watched in horror that the Scottish FA’s security procedures failed when Hibernian’s fans went over the top in their thousands. It is to be hoped that all of Scottish football will share Rangers’ disgust and any attempts to attach blame to our supporters for the disgraceful and violent behaviour, which led to our players and fans fearing for their safety, will not be accepted or tolerated by this Club.

We acknowledge that a tiny minority of Rangers fans also encroached on the pitch but only after having been faced with prolonged and severe provocation and in order to protect our players and officials who were being visibly attacked in front of them. Any club’s supporters would have done the same. This distressing and deeply disturbing episode would never have happened had Hibs fans behaved properly but as they swarmed across the pitch it became immediately obvious that the security procedures were inadequate and had failed.

These fans were allowed to rush, unchecked, towards Rangers supporters at the opposite end of the stadium – all the while goading and threatening them. This makes it preposterous to suggest Rangers fans were somehow to blame as some commentators appear anxious to do. This thuggish behaviour must be investigated and as many culprits as possible brought to book and formally charged. This is the second time in a year that Rangers fans have had to endure attacks by another club’s supporters.

It must also be said that it was not at all helpful to see leading members of the Scottish Government, including the First Minister whose parish is Govan, passing comment on social media without any attempt to condemn the behaviour of Hibernian’s fans. These failures are unbecoming of our elected representatives.

Certain media outlets have also attempted to distort reality. In the case of the BBC this is, of course, not news. BBC employees, in particular Stuart Cosgrove, believe Rod Petrie’s comments to be ‘balanced’ and others speak of a ‘minority’ of Hibernian supporters. Another, Tom English, who was not even at the match, would prefer the authorities to focus on Rangers fans’ reaction. We will not endure this insult.

So, let everyone be clear on one thing – Rangers demands that players, staff and fans be protected from the violence and hatred of supporters of other clubs. Rangers fully expects the Scottish FA and Police Scotland to take action to provide our people with a safe environment. When players are unable to accept medals at the end of a final because of fears for their safety and our supporters are alarmed and extremely concerned for the women and children among them, then surely every step must be taken to ensure that this is never repeated.

the First Minister whose parish is Govan

"parish", ffs. What are they like? I'm sure any PR department forgetting the word "constituency" and instead chucking in a term associated with religion is just an unfortunate oversight.

I've seen someone on Twitter advise Tom English that naming him is probably actionable.

There were some huns at the pub quiz tonight discussing how Ra Peepul would never behave like those thuggish Hibs fans. I was a bit *cough* Manchester *cough* 1972 *cough* (somewhat out of earshot, to a sympathetic ear) before I decided I didn't want to test their stated ability to remain calm under such extreme provocation.

Let's be clear, I'm not condoning any dickwaddery or violence from Hibs fans. But the ironing emanating from Ibrox is too good to not do a bit of pointing and laughing.

Fair play to Kenny Miller's wife for going on Twitter and saying any reports of her husband being assaulted were bollocks. She took a bit of stick for it.

Also, I'm kind of confused as to which direction the Hibs fans were meant to go once they got on the pitch. Just head back again? Of course there'll be a bit of migration across the pitch. I wouldn't take that as heading right towards the away fans so much as just the general logistics of clearing the way for those following you on.

Season's barely over and the Gers are bringin' in the lolz, one way or another.

Hahaha. Did he not pull a Schteve, how you say, McLaren type accent thing when he was playing in France? I hope he turns into Rab McGlinchey within a fortnight.

There is no defeat in a competitive European game to compare to this in the history of Scottish teams in Europe eh?

Celtic supporters haven't been so upset about something that happened in Gibraltar since Operation Flavius.

♫ Corbyn's on fire / PLP is terrified ♫ (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 12 July 2016 23:19 (eight years ago)

I was maintaining earlier on Facebook that the Artmedia result was worse, and I'll stand by that - that was a proper fucking gubbing. This was getting-beat-off-Morton-in-the-cup bad. I may revise this statement after the home leg.

ailsa, Tuesday, 12 July 2016 23:25 (eight years ago)

Also, this has the potential to ruin my Joey-Barton-mocking thread title ideas. Get your ideas in and we'll get a new thread up so I can consign this one to the dustbin.

ailsa, Tuesday, 12 July 2016 23:26 (eight years ago)

Aye, Artmedia we were just completely destroyed, and it ended up being a deficit too great to overcome, so, aye, pending the return leg this isn't as bad.

I was a wee bit of a Rodgers naysayer when I heard he'd been appointed, but I kept my cynicism in check because I didn't want to mar anyone's positivity - because god knows we need some - but god damn it the team selection, formation, and substitutions tonight were garbage.

♫ Corbyn's on fire / PLP is terrified ♫ (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 12 July 2016 23:27 (eight years ago)

The fact that Nir Bitton appeared to have turned into some sort of Stefan Johansen didn't help. So utterly inept. I'm kind of hoping Rodgers gets to say "right, that's how pish we are, can I have some money now please", but I'm not sure he'll do wise things with it.

ailsa, Tuesday, 12 July 2016 23:31 (eight years ago)

Oh, and some Hibs fans have helpfully pointed out to me on Facebook that they got scudded 7-0 off Malmo, which is probably worse than letting one stupid goal in against a bunch of part-timers. I'll let you decide if it's still worse than failing to score against said part-timers in the great pantheon of terrible recent Scottish adventures in Europe.

ailsa, Tuesday, 12 July 2016 23:35 (eight years ago)

This is like when Billy the Fish and Fulchester United lost to Sudbury Lane Paperboys. Rodgers needs an Arbroath v. Bon Accord scoreline in the second leg.

They could have been Stackridge. (Tom D.), Wednesday, 13 July 2016 00:05 (eight years ago)

(kinda)

was actually shiting it about this game, ha.

3-0 is still too precarious for this shitebag though, need 5-0 to be confident.

ælərdaɪs (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 19:26 (eight years ago)

We actually look not-shit on a decent pitch with a big crowd against what is ostensibly a pub team. Yay.

(also no Nir Bitton is a huge improvement)

xpost lol the guys on Celtic TV were on about the disaster that an away goal for Imps would be

ailsa, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 19:27 (eight years ago)

Roberts good to watch vs ostensible pub team. Forrest looking like he couldn't get in a pub team.

Off to Kazakhfuckinstan again if we win this.

Lolz galore as I just called my dad who's not been watching/listening/following

"What's the score?"
"3-0"
"For God's sake. Has Rodgers gone yet?"
"No, Dad, 3-0 to us"

How did I miss that Massimo Donati had signed for Hamilton? This is like when Jorge Cadete rocked up at Partick Thistle.

Was following Hibs and Hearts via Flashscore in the pub last night with a Hearts fan at the next table pretending to ignore me as I kept relaying updates to Neil really loudly.
