First 30 mins of Lazio-Leverkusen was superb, the last 15 mins merely okay except for Calhanoglu almost scoring from the right touchline 50 yards out.
Owen Hargreaves has a massive crush on Jonathon Tah, who has been admittedly excellent. Wendell also p impressive at LB for Leverkusen tho impulsive enough that he probably was lucky not to pick on a 2nd yellow card just before half-time. Candreva has been good for Lazio, who still have Klose at CF rounding keepers like it's 2002 but hitting the post unfortunately.

memphis' first was the better goal tbh, great juggling solo effort. watching it muted while listening to a radio stream of forest-charlton quite disorienting

CSKA look good on the break. Conceded early and missed a penalty but Doumbia just danced past the Sporting keeper to equalise.

Celtic up 2-0 over Malmo in the first 10 minutes of the first leg tie at Parkhead.

corbyn's gallus (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, 19 August 2015 19:03 (nine years ago)

Valencia-Monaco was p good stuff. Valencia won 3-1 but Clattenburg blew a clear penalty call that would have given Monaco the chance to equalise when it was 2-1.

pandemic, Wednesday, 19 August 2015 20:41 (nine years ago)

Ended up 3-2, with both of Malmo's goals coming from Celtic flop Berget. The second Malmo goal came with the last kick of the ball. At 3-1 progress would be close to guaranteed. Now going over there with the slimmest of leads and with a horrendous defensive record so far this season.

Group A: Paris St-Germain, Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, Malmo

Group B: PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, CSKA Moscow, Wolfsburg

Group C: Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray, Astana,

Group D: Juventus, Manchester City, Sevilla, Borussia Monchengladbach

Group E: Barcelona, Bayer Leverkusen, Roma, BATE Borisov

Group F: Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Olympiakos, Dinamo Zagreb

Group G: Chelsea, Porto, Dynamo Kiev, Maccabi Tel-Aviv

Group H: Zenit Saint Petersburg, Valencia, Lyon, Gent

Man City group is p sweet. As is Barca's. Chelsea got the best draw but I guess that makes sense as they were seeded #1. Memphis back to PSV already.

ack, this move me makes me anxious. i love son, though haven't seen much of him since he joined leverkusen, but spurs have been burned through so many promising young players. spurs' twitter using the hast tag here comes the son is an inauspicious start, imo. calhanoglu had some tough words for him leaving.

two weeks pass...

man u team for tonight: De Gea; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw; Schweinsteiger, Herrera; Young, Mata, Memphis; Martial

looks like a decent attaking side, what the hell is this lvg guy doing?

where young, mata and memphis will actually play i'm not sure

Young is playing right because our worst player, Brenet, is a right-footed left-back -_-

Number None, Tuesday, 15 September 2015 18:21 (nine years ago)

That means only blind is sort of out of position, wtf is going on?

Xp lbi!

feargal czukay (NickB), Tuesday, 15 September 2015 18:21 (nine years ago)

Herrera's out of position too tbf. I don't really like him in a midfield two

Number None, Tuesday, 15 September 2015 18:26 (nine years ago)

Hey guys! Go-to place, this right here. The draw for this group pulled me back in :)

NN: I think he's not quite gelling because he's just not as good as he will be someday. You've seen his touch of individual class in those goals against Brugge alone, but he still needs to learn a helluva lot. At PSV he lost possession a lot, but it didn't matter because he could score two brilliant goals nearly every game. At ManU, in the PL, not so much.

No doubt that it will come, but he really needs time to get used to the PL I think. Time you're rarely granted in the PL.

Gent v Wolfsburg

Roma v Real Madrid

Paris St-Germain v Chelsea

Arsenal v Barcelona

Juventus v Bayern Munich

PSV Eindhoven v Atletico Madrid

Benfica v Zenit St Petersburg

Dynamo Kiev v Manchester City

problem the worst draw chelsea could have got, well maybe Juve.

Clowns in studio ignoring the millions of medals and saying Zlatan might not be top class as his record vs English defences isn't great. (apart from the four goals in one game?)

I'm sure he could do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke but why the fuck would he want to?

Bayern in control, 70% possession, then neuerlols misses a cross, 1-0 benfica.

pandemic, Wednesday, 13 April 2016 19:20 (nine years ago)

vidal 1-1 that should seal it.

pandemic, Wednesday, 13 April 2016 19:23 (nine years ago)

think i'll switch to the atleti-barca game. atleti must be horrible to play against.

this barca kit has always been vile.

pandemic, Wednesday, 13 April 2016 19:48 (nine years ago)

off the bar from atleti, p much bossing this

pandemic, Wednesday, 13 April 2016 19:54 (nine years ago)

great break from felipe luis, penalty.

pandemic, Wednesday, 13 April 2016 20:27 (nine years ago)

griezmann 2-0

barca still need one goal same as before although the commentator doesn't seem to realise it. are away goals really that complicated?

real madrid
man city
bayern
atletico

felipe luis has been great. really not good enough for chelsea?

pandemic, Wednesday, 13 April 2016 20:36 (nine years ago)

messi barely got a kick, no other team deals with barca in quite the way simeone's atleti do.

pandemic, Wednesday, 13 April 2016 20:37 (nine years ago)

don't see city beating atleti but think they'd have a chance vs real madrid.

solely judging by the lack of posts here it could just be that BT have ever so slightly overpaid for the Best Club Competition in the World TM.

still i'll be watching tonight, i don't really know why i like Atleti cos i generally loathe Mourinho teams playing the same style of football.

pandemic, Wednesday, 27 April 2016 16:32 (nine years ago)

i have thought that but i) unlike any jose team since porto, needs must and ii) even jose never had the cojones to have a ball thrown on the pitch so idk, bit of sass or w/e i guess

The weird thing is that Atleti defended well but didn't really stifle either game. There was barely a point across both legs, apart from the last fifteen minutes of the first, where Bayern didn't look like scoring but they weren't creative or clinical enough.

this is what i was saying about two games vs one, they knocked out two teams better than real madrid but in a single game the tactical advantage is reduced

they begin having to score at least once in 90/120 vs 180/210 so the defensive/attritional paranoia that animates them in a psychological as well as tactical sense is sort of neutralized; no away goals rule
