God I felt bad about the cathro era. Really didn't want brainless fitba men to be vindicated, a successful cathro could've precipitated some new thinking in Scottish fitba.

Stevie May's back in the spfl with Aberdeen, he's done fuck all/been injured since he left but could see him bring a good signing for the dandy dons.

I didn't spot this thread had been started! Again, no season ticket for me so not much to say other than it's nice to be three for three, great to see Michael O'Halloran back wjere he belongs and I'll probably be quite sad when Stevie May knocks in a hattrick against us. His Aberdeen shirt would be a nice touch if he hadn't already had May 17 ;)

Hello! And yes, positively Cantona-esque from Pedro. Not quite in the same league as Mad Vlad, but everyone's got to start somewhere.

Another easy Champions League group for Celtic, I see. And more opportunities to hate on Neymar and Dani Alves. And Arjen Robben.

this is an actual proverb weirdly enough. it rung a bell so i gave it a wee google. it's arabic, referenced in the title of a truman capote book (he apparently got it from andre gide), and jose mourinho has previously used it in a press conference a couple years ago, so maybe it's more popular in portugal

Tom's Tits Experiment (Tom D.), Friday, 13 October 2017 21:48 (seven years ago) link

Accies are really hated because we have a small support and "bring nothing to the league". Some of the facebook groups for Scottish football is full of that attitude sadly. You get it in the daily record hotline and of course some years back the st mirren chairmen went on about it

starving street dogs of punk rock (Odysseus), Friday, 13 October 2017 21:52 (seven years ago) link

the worst is not knowing what's going to happen. We dont know what did happen or how exactly much as the rumours are it's £900,000.

starving street dogs of punk rock (Odysseus), Friday, 13 October 2017 21:54 (seven years ago) link

the worry is someone from the club authorized a payment and then there's no chance of getting it back from the bank. Got to hope its not been that.

starving street dogs of punk rock (Odysseus), Friday, 13 October 2017 21:55 (seven years ago) link

You’d have to question where Accies are making £900k payments to for it to be such a monumental one-off cock up by a member of staff.

michaellambert, Friday, 13 October 2017 22:19 (seven years ago) link

Well, quite. Any well-run business should have enough checks and balances in place to counteract even the daftest slip from a well-meaning temp or whatever.

ailsa, Saturday, 14 October 2017 01:12 (seven years ago) link

Accies are really hated

Do people really *hate* Hamilton? With absolutely no offence meant, do they even register anywhere in the ranks of teams anyone gives a shit about? Does it generally go deeper than"meh, who cares"? In terms of bringing nothing to the league and having a small support, what distinguishes them from, well, about 25 other clubs in the SPFL?

imago, Saturday, 14 October 2017 11:24 (seven years ago) link

Sorry, my bad, they do bring something to the league. The worst pitch in Scottish football.

They bring as much as nearly every other club, which is pretty much nothing. I have nothing against them but there's nothing really there to get particularly bothered about either. That doesn't even come close to "boo I hope they die Celtic are brilliant yay" or whatever. Also said, no offence meant. There's just genuinely nothing there to hate (except their pitch)

michaellambert, Monday, 23 October 2017 08:48 (seven years ago) link

Smashing goal, mostly terrible game (only watched the second half). Yon non-penalty that Hibs got was a joke. Sutton getting right lamped into the standard of refereeing to a bemused Rob McLean was great though.

Why is Rob McLean polluting the BT airwaves anyway? I miss Derek Rae.

ailsa, Monday, 23 October 2017 17:10 (seven years ago) link

I thought last night would have been the end of the unbeaten run. Teirney was sensational and Dembele more than justified replacing Griffiths.

Only worry for me is this insistence on trying to make the keeper pass the ball when he plainly can't do it. Between Gordon and Boyata we gave the ball away in our own half too many times to count. I think that's the main reason we struggle in Europe.

Prepare to resurrect this quote and mock me in a week or so, but I don't think McInnes would touch it. He knocked back Sunderland to stay at Aberdeen, I can't see him leaving them for another Scottish team. Especially the state of affairs at Ibrox atm.

Alex McLeish joint second-favourite with Billy Davies after McInnes with most bookies, with Graeme Murty just behind them. Rot probably not stopping any time soon.

Celtic goals were all really good. Our defence was a shambles at times. Ntcham had his best game in the hoops so far.

Good to see Murty's assertion that they will never have a better chance to beat us. Fingers crossed he's right.

Away from home, gifted them 2 goals, played with ten men and a third choice keeper and we still score three amazing goals but Rodgers was lucky? This article is all ifs buts and bollocks.

celtic's defensive frailty is a worry and rodger's has to be held responsible, but tactically he got everything right in that game. Fair enough the win was a bit spawny, what with the missed sitter. but say the missed sitter goes in. away from home, derby, coming from behind after shipping bad goals, surviving being down to 10 men for a half hour and getting a draw would've also been a good result tbh.

Dying laughing at them. Utterly fucking gash, apart from that couple of minutes when Craig Gordon actually had stuff to do.

I also weirdly feel sorry for Graeme Murty because he seems a decent and rational sort of a chap who deserves better than being in charge of that shambles, and I prefer when the comedy happens to the likes of insane guys like Caixinho or bitter old bawbags like Walter Smith.

Now I can just hope that this upsets them so much that they go into freefall. Aberdeen can certainly overtake them, and I reckon Hibs might be in with a shout of it as well. Imagine they didn't even qualify for Europe. Still, would stop them getting knocked out by the fourth placed team in the Vatican City pub league or whatevs.

Going to put my timfoil hat on here regarding Gerrard: the Scottish football media, which failed to scrutinize Rangers in the run up to their liquidation, and then has failed to scrutinize Whyte, Green, and King's dodgy regimes, is now braying for Stevie G - a novice manager, admittedly apparently did well at youth level with Liverpool's under 18s - and a war chest to turn Rangers around. Would have thought a proven managerial appointment - say Steve Clarke - coupled with modest spending befitting the impecunious state of Rangers' finances would have been more fitting, and less likely to put Rangers on the road to liquidation again. But what do I know?

Daniel Johns Hopkins (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:20 (six years ago) link

You're failing to take into account the delusional character of Rangers' fans and the Scottish football media (samethingamirite?) regarding the club's status.

calzino, Friday, 4 May 2018 20:02 (six years ago) link

Just checking Celtic's results for the 1999/2000 season, I think it's fair to say they had the upper hand in their encounters with Aberdeen in the league:

Aberdeen 0 – 5 Celtic
Celtic 7 – 0 Aberdeen
Aberdeen 0 – 6 Celtic
Celtic 5 – 1 Aberdeen

... last one was post Barnes

Kanye O'er Frae France? (Tom D.), Friday, 4 May 2018 20:04 (six years ago) link

Barnes was officially named as manager of Tranmere Rovers on 15 June 2009, with Jason McAteer assisting him.[41] He got off to a disastrous start, with Tranmere only winning three of their first fourteen games. During their time at Tranmere, Barnes and McAteer were allegedly dubbed "Dumb and Dumber" by the Tranmere players.[42] On 9 October 2009, Barnes was sacked by the club six days after a 5–0 defeat at Millwall and a run of just two wins from eleven league games.[43] He has since applied to become the manager of the Rwandan national team with Stephen Garside as his Youth Team Coach.[44]
