Superb title! Welcome back Nakh (if you've been gone that is and not just posting on threads I haven't read)

pandemic, Friday, 17 August 2012 17:46 (twelve years ago)

thank you......yeah i took a few weeks off, like messi i hadn't had an offseason in a while

Claude Parfait Ngon A Djam (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 August 2012 17:47 (twelve years ago)

which means he will score 100 goals this season

Claude Parfait Ngon A Djam (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 August 2012 17:47 (twelve years ago)

i will probably make 100 posts in this thread

the transfer market is absolutely dead, as one would expect given the general financial situation

still it's sort of sad that even atleti are running a profit by selling two good young players abroad

the vultures will temporarily depart malaga for their champions league qualifier vs panathanaikos, a fairly easy draw that they might even win

newcastle are supposedly sniffing around toulalan, who is an excellent boring defensive midfielder and along with cazorla their best player last season

Was watching the reserve Classico in a bar in Santiago on Saturday night, immediately after the Real Sociedad-Celta Vigo game, on the same channel. That made me imagine that even the reserves of the bg two must be a big deal, but it looked like there were only about 10,000 there (still a second division game, of course).

Just turned on the battle of the Athletic teams... just after Falcao had scored. 1-0, the commentators make it seem like he did something special.

a hoy hoy, Monday, 27 August 2012 20:24 (twelve years ago)

madrid are dominating. bilbao are a mess and seemingly reluctant to close down falcao for some boggling reason. arda turan is a beast.

i know madrid aren't a bad team but i'd love love love falcao to be at one of those teams that create 40 chances every game, ala us 2 or 3 seasons ago or barca today. holy crap this guy playing with xavi+andres would be insane.

some player freaking out being subbed by bilbao, punching and kicking the comfy chairs. (only half watching now means i have no idea of details).

a hoy hoy, Monday, 27 August 2012 21:20 (twelve years ago)

that was a fascinating game

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Thursday, 30 August 2012 14:54 (twelve years ago)

difficulties with the central defenders for barcelona which may or not be systemic, we'll have to see

one difference tito seems to have employed is an increased willingness to hit fast 30+yard passes over the defence, even mascherano was doing this with some success

this could be very effective vs entrenched defences where messi plays deeper, because pedro is great at controlling these long passes, switching feet and shooting quickly; tello and sanchez are lightning quick too

hey valencia maybe you don't want to pass to barca in your own half

cesc goes and chips it against the post

a hoy hoy, Sunday, 2 September 2012 19:58 (twelve years ago)

commentators acting like 32% possession, no real chances, losing 1-0 and could be more if not for the post is something valencia should be proud of.

they have been dreadful, barca are just toying with them. three or four times messi has just decided to take on players at the halfway line with nothing on.

a hoy hoy, Sunday, 2 September 2012 20:20 (twelve years ago)

Unlike humans, dogs don't talk shit (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Sunday, 2 September 2012 20:29 (twelve years ago)

i know we are supposed to trip all over any team that isn't losing 5-0 to barca but they just had no back bone. its not even 50-50 situations valencia were losing at, barca players would get to balls where they are 5 or 6 yards further away than valencia players

a hoy hoy, Sunday, 2 September 2012 20:37 (twelve years ago)

its just like they thought aw fuck it its barca at home without our two best players why bother really doing anything

a hoy hoy, Sunday, 2 September 2012 20:38 (twelve years ago)

my internet is being annoying so i'm not going to catch the second half. barca should just win everything this season.

a hoy hoy, Sunday, 2 September 2012 20:47 (twelve years ago)

barely offsides for the equalizer.

EZ Snappin, Sunday, 2 September 2012 20:48 (twelve years ago)

just watched the last 20 mins or so but valencia looked alright, even forced barca to defend for a bit

obv i didn't see them earlier but it's worth remembering the number of teams who chase after them and are then exhausted after an hour, nevermind the fact that they have three players who are incredibly hard to stop legally

getting to 80 mins at 1-0 and hoping for a break near the end is a lot closer than most

Unlike humans, dogs don't talk shit (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Sunday, 2 September 2012 21:25 (twelve years ago)

They really were poor, and deserved to lose by more than a few. Maybe I've been spoiled by the last few years of fascinating BAR-VAL matches, but Unai Emery would've been ashamed with how they capitulated so completely early on. Soldado looked to have given up on the match by 60'.

WTF: The Spanish League (LFP) has granted Athletic Bilbao special dispensation of one month to sign a replacement for Javi Martinez. Martinez joined Bayern Munich before the end of the transfer deadline and Los Leones argued they had not been given sufficient time to find a suitable alternative to the Spanish international.

The knock-on effect is that if Monreal does move to San Mames then Malaga themselves will have permission to sign a player, with the selling club also being free to sign somebody and so on.

Unlike humans, dogs don't talk shit (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Monday, 3 September 2012 13:18 (twelve years ago)

no, as i understand it they decided that they weren't liable for the tax and paid €40m. Although there was also some talk of Martinez lowering his initially agreed contract to save Bayern some money as well??

pandemic, Monday, 3 September 2012 13:22 (twelve years ago)

Martinez’ Spanish contract included a €40 million buyout clause, which ultimately made it possible for FCB to sign the 23-year-old. “Obviously it's a very large sum," said Rummenigge, “but the player has made an indirect contribution by foregoing a large sum of his salary. Our management is convinced the player will do very well with us."

villanova seems to like to spread the play quite wide which probably favours tello and pedro over sanchez, who is better in a narrower inside forward role

i like sanchez' mix of talents but he look like a bit of a prick

the supposed Villa Messi beef has come up before anyway

Number None, Friday, 28 September 2012 19:00 (twelve years ago)

You probably watch more than I do. Michael Cox suggested Villa had 'forgotten' some of what he'd learned about playing w/ Messi, was making the wrong runs. I was alluding to this exchange vs Granada (not my translation obv):

Messi: pass the ball on the first touch
Villa: Leo, but I have given it to you!
Messi: pass the ball on the first touch.
Villa: how can I pass it on the first touch before I control the ball, dont f... with me. I always touch it once or twice and I pass it to you.
Mascherano: enough, enough.

Would like to tie this thread title / convo topic together with "if an ilx beef threatens to take over a perfectly good" but can't quite do it.

boxall, Friday, 28 September 2012 19:04 (twelve years ago)

i have hardly watched any of the league this season for one reason or another but it doesn't really look that engaging

complaining about imported stars hanging on to the ball for too long is an established barcelona theme & after 1/2 a year of bad form and 1/2 a year of injury villa probably needs time

what the fuck is neymar going to be like if rosell has his way

A.R.R.Y. Kane (nakhchivan), Friday, 28 September 2012 19:14 (twelve years ago)

I've only seen him about six times (plus highlights) but Neymar strikes me as astonishingly unselfish for a forward of his ability.

boxall, Friday, 28 September 2012 19:17 (twelve years ago)

or maybe I mean "considering the gap between his ability and his teammates' "

boxall, Friday, 28 September 2012 19:18 (twelve years ago)

it's not selfishness as such but the way he plays, always trying to isolate and beat a defender, barcelona have only messi who is like that and everyone else looks for the simplest option 90% of the time

he is not ronaldinho but barcelona haven't had a free-spirited player like him since ronnie in the rijkaard era

messi is so self-effacing and unshowy that it's neglected quite how much he demands the team to be set up around him, it can be justified because what's good for him has been good for barcelona but neymar would upset that dynamic, for better or worse

A.R.R.Y. Kane (nakhchivan), Friday, 28 September 2012 19:23 (twelve years ago)

Only watched a few minutes of the first half of SEV-BAR, now following on Twitter - evidently he was at fault for the goal, but even before that I've wondered whether Alex Song enjoys playing CB, and whether he anticipated being used there when he signed, since he clearly offered much more as a creative passing midfielder than did Mascherano in '10.

boxall, Saturday, 29 September 2012 20:57 (twelve years ago)

This sounds like quite the game. What's with Barca and the late late goals now? Are they getting less competent, or is it just boredom? In other news:

Barcelona have invited three Palestinians to attend their home match against Real Madrid on 7 October in response to Hamas calling for a media boycott of the club after it gave a complimentary ticket to an Israeli soldier.

The soldier is Gilad Shalit; poor guy deserves a break imo.

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Saturday, 8 December 2012 17:34 (twelve years ago)

I feel for Joaquin. Aiui he never really declined as such, it's more that Spanish football passed him by. It's like if Andy Carroll had made his debut in 1970 and was still ploughing on today.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 8 December 2012 17:57 (twelve years ago)

i think it's fair to say he declined from the player who abramovich bid 30m or something for

sanchez flores used to rotate his wings between him angulo vicente and silva and since one was old one was young and one was forever injured, he got games even while being underwhelming

then silva took off and mata and pablo came along and he didn't really pick up

but without fulfilling his early promise he has still become a pretty good player for malaga

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Saturday, 8 December 2012 18:03 (twelve years ago)

i suppose as an old fashioned winger he has been overshadowed by lateral playmaker types like isco cazorla etc but then navas and pedro have continued excelling

Ray Hudson: "Falcao has an eye for goal that would make the Cyclops jealous"

dansplaining (dan m), Sunday, 9 December 2012 20:48 (twelve years ago)

When it comes to strikers, there are few like him. Probably none. Falcao, 26, calls himself a "specialist"; goals are an obsession, something he has worked on relentlessly. He recently told FourFourTwo that if you gave him a pen and a piece of paper, he could probably draw you a diagram of every goal he has ever scored. There would be many of them – he has scored 176 goals so far, finishing as the Europa League's top scorer two seasons in a row and with two different teams – and all different types, too.
