I'm listening to all three volumes of Ocean Drive. Double album sets of "Beach Music" put out by Beach Beat records. lots of 60's soul/pop soul/pop. no surf music though or any beach boys/jan & dean type stuff. this stuff is actually what people on the southeast shores of the carolinas called beach music in the 60's. so, it's a very particular beach music.

okay, i had to turn that off cuz i really needed to hear "I Think I'm Gonna Kill Myself" by Waylon Jennings.

@nnie and i are gonna go see a gamelan in SF in september and im SO PSYCHED! i tried to go to the indonesian embassy years ago in DC, where they had open gamelan night for anyone to play in, but they had canceled it. so this will be my first live gamelan experience!

i saw a gamelan ensemble play in NY when i was in college--it was dope!

my buddy r0ry was in a gamelan in colorado, then another one when he was at calarts!

btw i am away from all my records until friday night and i'm already annoyed at having to listen to shit via itunes and also not be able to participate in this thread :(

i <3 gamelan so much that did a study-abroad program in Bali in lollege just so I could hear it in person. I spent most of my $$ on tapes, which I want to post/blog at some point before they rot. Almost all gamelan, but I'm kicking myself now that I didn't grok and buy more dangdut or kroncong or other pop music. No vinyl in Indonesia because it melts.

Mt. Eerie - Wind's Poem

I've never taken a bunch of downers before, but I imagine it feels like this sounds. The minimal press on this will probably buy into some stupid meme that this is a "black metal" album. It's not. Only a few songs, the first and the beginning of the third side, are full of distorted guitars, and that's something that's been a feature of dude's albums for a decade now. Anyway, this album is making my Tuesday go down smoooooth.

"Chevy VAN," you mean. But my copy actually doesn't look like either the one you describe or the one above; it's a promotion copy (says the label inside), and the cover has (not as a sticker, as part of the cover itself -- definitely haven't seen that very often) a "Programming Guide" listing all songs, times, intro and fade times, etc. The Guide is a white rectangle, and takes up almost the whole bottom quarter of the cover. Which probably means it covers up more of the artwork than your circle.

Hey Scott -- that Steve Gibbons album is, um, bar-bandy! And not as much like Bob Seger as I hoped. Also, could be heavier. And maybe pubbier. But it rocks, or at least parts of it do. Think I like it; I need to listen to it more though....

I dunno, Scott...Did I really say once that the drummer was the reason I didn't like Live Skull? I'll believe you if you say I did, but at least the drummer's audible. Music still never remotely locks into a groove, though, and I'm not hearing anything like the melodies and hooks and personality that Sonic Youth got out of really similar music at the time. And the music just totally sounds thin and drowned under water; I can barely hear the stuff, to be honest. So yeah, I'm still bored by them, I guess.

i thought i remembered a mention about how you didn't like his drum sound somewhere. as far as the album goes, play it louder! then you can hear it better.

i mean, it doesn't sound thin and underwater if you play it loud enough. it sounds great! same with all their albums.
