Yeah, it's great, unostentatious, a lot of second coming of Monk stuff, but it has more surface noise than the look of it would suggest, so I'm thinking of returning it for credit. :(

you should look for ED KELLY & FRIEND if you dont already have it. "FRIEND" is pharoah sanders, who was unable to appear in the title or front cover due to some arista issues?

yeah that's a nice score, I don't think I've ever seen a copy of that.

i'm going to have to give flying doesn't help some more plays since on first listen it didn't really hit me that hard except for a couple of tracks (the version of war is pretty great though).

i'm guessing the bobby brown lp was bought at one his shows since he's thanked them and added a couple of :-) :-) on the back. apparently he turned up in australia at some point, so i guess it's not out of the question he made it to nz as well (would be fascinating to know if he played any shows here too). whoever owned it before mustn't have listened to it much/at all cause it's absolutely pristine.

that is such a weird part of his story! so intriguing...

OK in a very weird and very pleasing development, I found my own copy of the Bobby Brown record yesterday... also with his writing on the back!

I picked up some Sun Ra last week too, on the "100th birthday" day I was at this vintage store near my apartment in Brooklyn that has a small but reasonably good selection of reissues (usually stuff like Numero Group, Soul Jazz etc) and lo and behold they had like 20 nice Sun Ra repressings for 10 bucks a pop. I got "Atlantis" and "We Travel the Spaceways."

on more than one occasion i've had to repress my impulse to just grab all the sun ra reissues that are out there now. the one up there is from the late seventies which is an era i wasn't familiar with at all...

& my local record shop has recently acquired an amazing folk/string band/bluegrass/blues/cajun collection so:

Feats Don't Fail Me Now is all killer, no filler

Sun Zoom Spark box is useless to me since I have all those Spotlight Kid Sessions from DIME. Super disappointing that they left "Funeral Hill" off of that 4th disc. I guess if the remasters are really well done I might look for it used.

Some cool stuff there sleeve, quite a few I'm coveting from over here (No Trend, Really Red, Poison Girls, would like to get the Damned and Wire on vinyl one day, just to begin with, and I'm sure the Dead C, Jad Fair, Slovenly etc are probably up my street too). I do have the Spizzoil 7" though.

take the toys from the boys will always be my fave poison girls song. on that EP.

also, dozen dead roses probably my fave no trend song.

the dead c should be up everyone's street :-) have fond memories of seeing them play in port chalmers over the years.

never had decals on anything but cdr so that's the one i'm most hyped about hearing, also means i can retire my warped clear spot (so glad i pre-ordered this before the price doubled)

Oh yeah I've seen the Dead C live and have several of their albums, just not that one.

mac from siltbreeze (r.i.p.) gave me a copy of clyma years ago. i played it once. and then years later i sold it. and that's my sad tale. i've never listened to dead c much. i'm not supposed to admit that. but there you have it. i listen to lots of other stuff though.

what's on the 'tentative power' ep?

the Xpressway "Hell Is Not Love"/"Bone" single, the Forced Exposure single, and a couple of other tracks iirc

I really want Ba Da Bing to reissue Operation of The Sonne, that's the only other "classic" era one that I need

oh, that FE single was great - it kind of spoilt the Dead C for me thereafter. that version of 'power' is terrific!

i finally got a copy of monoshock's walk to the fire on vinyl. double vinyl. i always wanted that one. labelmates with my brother at the time. blackjack records.

yeah me too! all my underground 7"s gone in one big clear out for £££ (including a liquorball single on glow-in-the-dark vinyl which was just so good). kills me thinking about it :(

i think when they mastered the tentative power stuff it got slightly sped up in the process didn't it? i remember the guitars ended up sounding kind of balalaika like. got rid of mine since i already had most of it on 7" and clyma isn't too hard to find here. sometimes think operation of the sonne is my favourite dead c.

i gotta get to a regular record store to catch up on the non dollar bin / old man side of things. but anyway,

I have a homemade CDR of it that I bought from Hurley at a gig, but I suspect his ripping gear is not exactly high end. still pissed at Mississippi for reissuing it on 8-track only.
