I dunno one issue I just thought of is that for people whose clothing doesn't have pockets, to check your phone is a hassle. my wife complains all the time about how even woman pants don't have pockets, or at best have very small pockets, so she has to keep her phone in a purse/bag/whatever, and so getting it out is a pain. so that could be a market for this thing...I don't know whether it's going to be fashionable for women though (it just looks like an iPod nano on your wrist doesn't it?)

We recently rewatched all the seasons of The Nanny, and it has an overload of "celebrity paradox". First of all, it has more than one case of a celebrity (Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O'Donnell, etc) appearing both as himself and as a fictional person without anyone noticing they look alike. With Fran's grandmother, there are recurring jokes how she reminds people of Millie from Dick van Dyke Show (she's played by Ann Morgan Guilbert, who also played Milly), and so on...

But the whole thing is taken to ridiculous extremes with Fran Descher herself. In one episode she appears as Bobbi Flekman, the character she played in This Is Spinal Tap. In this case, the resemblance between Fran Fine (the character she plays in The Nanny) and Bobbi Flekman is noticed, and Fran is able to succesfully impersonate her. Still, no one finds it a bit odd that the two woman look exactly alike.

Then, in the penultimate episode of the series, Fran Fine, the fictional character, runs into Fran Drescher, the famous actor, by chance. They have a brief discussion, and it turns out that within the universe of The Nanny Drescher is doing a series that's quite similar to The Nanny, and Fine is a fan of it! And apparently that show-within-a-show is about have its series finale (just like The Nanny was in real life), and Drescher even urges Fine to "tune in and watch it next week!". Yet no one seems to notice that Drescher looks exactly like Fine (and Flekman!), and that the events of Frescher's fictional series weirdly mirror the events of Fine's real life...

I guess there are a limited number of ways to film cars careening around and I've seen all of them enough times to start losing interest. Maybe this film broke ground 17 years ago and I've just been seeing all the later copycats. Maybe I am just too old and jaded to properly enjoy orange balls of flame and showers of sparks as cars are forced sideways into railings, over and over again to the accompaniment of insistent drumbeat soundtrack, so that for me, today, the best car chase is a brief one. This explanation seems plausible the more I think about it.

isn't the idea of a poll like this to rile up white men by making them realize how much they hate being lumped in with other people who share only superficial traits with them and by so doing forcing them to acknowledge that it has been their luxury, as white men, to not have had this happen to them all along? that privilege has allowed them to have their multidimensionality remain unquestioned to a degree minorities could only dream of? if that was the idea, it's a good exercise, but you can't be surprised when people react as expected, by bristling at the possibility that they too could be subject to crude generalizations. i honestly can't help but be suspicious of white men who would feel totally cool about this and join in the chorus of people describing all members of the white male literary establishment as shits due to their white maleness. if you're into social justice you want to extend to privilege to not be objectified to everyone, not just strip it away from certain people, right? unless the latter is tactically important to the struggle... i tend to not think it is, but then again of course i would because i am a white male.

if this is just about venting about the ubiquity of male voices in a way that is cathartically unrestrained i get it and i would never resent someone for indulging in that kind of activity. but again, the fact that white males might pipe in to say "hey wait a second, this isn't fair!' is to be expected, if the thread concept is supposed to be unfair, rather for rhetorical or cathartic effect. right?

there are lots of akitas in my neighbourhood now, some of them are like grizzly bears when they are fully grown. I saw this skinny kid with one and he barely had the strength to rein it in while it was fixing to chew my labby. An idiot across the road from me had one and he brought it up with that fierce, brutal attitude that macho knobheads do and it ended up getting put down after savaging his granddad, who suffered a heart attack during the attack. Incidentally this dude used to be a screw at Wakefield Prison and he got sacked for a violent assault on an inmate. I wouldn't condemn any breed of dog, but this fashion of shitty people tending towards powerful, potentially dangerous dogs is really not good.

I would divide the dish up into mushed-up spherical bites hanging from the ceiling by silk threads then give each customer a map to follow to get each bite of their chosen dish. Gravy/custard etc could be dripped down the appropriate threads

We had one weekend where a bunch of us had to go away to another city and dig through a warehouse for lost files in anticipation of an audit. The fist night there we went out and got stinking drunk at a local pub. At some point said person's name came up (he was obv not there) and one guy reluctantly mentioned being in the next stall when it had happened. All of a sudden every man there was like, "OMG you've hear him too?!" etc.
