I've been gone for too long, think it's time to bring it back. It's the last day of the fucking year! How are we feeling about that?

surm, Thursday, 31 December 2015 13:26 (nine years ago)

hi!

Few things are more promising than relief from a cold, i.e. I can drink again.

Morbs, you asked in the other thread: The Gay Revolution was terrific and every ilxor gay should read it.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 31 December 2015 14:12 (nine years ago)

and for thee, morbs. i hear you.

surm, Thursday, 31 December 2015 14:16 (nine years ago)

hello!

hey girl hey

surm, Thursday, 31 December 2015 18:05 (nine years ago)

oh i want to read 'the gay revolution' - 'gay LA' is on my bf's bookshelf and i wanna read that too. first tho, gonna get crackin' on those ferrante novels

relieved this year is over, not especially optimistic about next year. but tonight should be fun, anyway.

donna rouge, Thursday, 31 December 2015 19:33 (nine years ago)

it would be cool to go to some big gay thing in cali this year but i'll probably be saving for what will hopefully be my own apartment sans roommates instead.

i was the highest bidder on these for a few days. i'd go higher but i measured my feet and i'm closer to an 11.5 D. i've always wanted to get custom-fitted wesco boots but they're pretty fucking expensive, you have to pay $99 just to send them your measurements.

anyway, i'm home alone on nye after spending a miserable night and morning with my bf. i think i have to make it 'just friends' and move on soon. next week is his birthday though. after that then, sad but ok. imagining finally getting the fuck out of salt lake. i've always hated it here. back to los angeles maybe. hopefully before i'm 40, lol.

flag post please (mattresslessness), Friday, 1 January 2016 03:05 (nine years ago)

i know no one is like here or whatever but i think i'll do a rant anyway. he was 'discombobulated' because he rushed to my place because i asked him what time he was coming over (wednesday is our 'date night', ugh, sorry) and there wasn't immediately anything to do when he arrived? and because he hasn't made it to the grocery store in over a week (like always!) and because there are piles of stuff everywhere in his house that he has made 1/10th of progress on cleaning up in literally over a year's time and somehow those are ok reasons for coming over and giving me the silent treatment. i've been very patient but i'm really coming to understand that his and my approach to time management are irreconcilable. of course i said it was ok on the phone because i want to be nice but i'm at a limit and i've got to start breaking out of this.

flag post please (mattresslessness), Friday, 1 January 2016 04:29 (nine years ago)

Hello

The doc I scored just premiered at Sundance. I wasn't so excited because the music was specified to be like indie landfill and I delivered! oh boy did I ever! but the music was so appropriate for the doc and the whole experience was so moving and everybody was crying. Doc was about Bindle & Keep, the NYC tailoring firm that caters to everyone, but specifically suits for the genderqueer and transgendered. I got applauded and producer Lena Dunham said nice things to me at dinner and also from the stage.

But also

I’ve had a recurring nightmare this past year of coming home to find people in my house having sex. “Nightmare” not because I’m anti-sex, or have an issue with people having sex without me, but rather there’s this crazy feeling of “how do I work this?” when it’s your house, people you know and love, and there is no place for you.

The problem is haha that this nightmare has been real, and recurring. I’ve tried to be modern about it all, and deal with it. But basically, this poly situation went so terribly wrong, me trying to be cool and fun and OK with the fact that the three people I loved most in life don’t actually want me around. My smoking habit has ballooned, not because of actual nicotine addiction, but because there is no place for me. The only place I can go is out for a cigarette, or to the kitchen to cook a meal.

The problem is mine, and the solution is clear. I need to get out of this situation and into one where I am welcome, where there is a place for me. I can't be with my boyfriend any more he doesn't understand how much this situation has fucked me up and he doesn't know how to fix it. I don't know how to fix it.. I've fixed my self-esteem issues since last summer and my only feeling now is "I deserve so much better than this". Ghosted the other couple, they are good people but our relationship is toxic.

I need to get out of here.. familiar places incl. family places are no good because I've been with my bf for 13 years and everybody loves him. I still have so much work and can't really be anywhere without like a piano or whatever, I need to be around friends, I don't know I don't know what to do.

got a long list of ilxors (fgti), Tuesday, 26 January 2016 17:52 (nine years ago)

Is peacing tf out for like 2+ weeks an option? Like an actual isolated retreat/vacation-type thing where you don't work on work and you don't contact bf? It sounds so v cheesy, I know, and I know you and I are diff in a lot of ways and respond to diff types of stimuli and environments and whatnot, but when I left Philly/NJ for 4 months and traveled it was v rejuvenating and I came home w/ a greater sense of self and purpose. I don't know if traveling solo is the means by which you would accomplish this end, but I really want a similar type of rejuvenation for you and I think it would be so great!

Sorry for the AAAAAAA posts but it's gotten really bad! Panic attacks! No sleep be nightmares! And in ghosting the other couple I've lost two of my best friends ;_; for whom I've typically relied upon for emotional support but in this case are no help because they are a contributing factor!

I think I'm gonna actually read some literature for straights about how to "get over an affair" because that's essentially what I'm dealing with, feeling sidelined for for my boyfriend's intimacy

Also I think I may sell some shit I don't need and go to Rome

I'll keep you posted on my finds along the way!

For most of the Modern/Contempo picks, I was given an author and asked to fill in a text, and I went with stuff I already knew or owned when possible (Surfacing being one of my picks). Sorry to lose Carson; I based my poetry selections on what was in the anthology I owned (Carson's in there, but underrepresented).

Oh shiiiii yes I have lots of suggestions.

What else? oh! My bf and I finally had a conversation that ended in discussion and resolution instead of broken glasses and tears? After eight months of trying! We're so proud.

Also I know I've been posting only "FUCK" posts about this whole poly chain dickaround, for what, the past year and a half? But there was a nice moment a couple weeks ago when my bf and I were having sex and he tried doing some uncharacteristic sexytalk and asked me "tell me about what it's like to fuck ____" and the immediate thought that came into my head was "there's always a moment when we both drowse awake at the same time and the afternoon sun is crossing our naked bodies and we're still holding each other so tight and every breath is love love love on my neck and.." but I thought better and faked it and made up something about a delicious asshole

Hello, lovers. For some reason I've found myself simultaneously reading 2 different novels by Samuel Delany & it's doing weird (fun) things to my brain.

gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:42 (nine years ago)

speaking of weird (fun) things to my brain:

Last March I went on a sexless date with this fellow.

Last week I learned he was my new doctor.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:46 (nine years ago)

Our date was three weeks after the quarantine was lifted!

Either he legit didn't recognize me when he probed my abdomen or he sports the best poker face I've ever seen.

He looks way too much like Jon Meacham for my taste.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:53 (nine years ago)

when he probed my abdomen

the exam came second, right?

(This reminds me of a gag in a late John Ford film when a hoe falls down and her petticoat flies up and James Stewart is all "Oh, I know her")

we can be heroes just for about 3.6 seconds (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 21:58 (nine years ago)

he's cute imo but- wait, I'm confused- did he never acknowledge that you had been on a date ever? because that would be very weird if he had acted like you hadn't dated at all

the tune was space, Tuesday, 9 February 2016 22:22 (nine years ago)

He did say my weight and HDL and lipid tests were spectacular.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 22:24 (nine years ago)

Is it possible that acknowledging the date would amount to admitting an ethical breach? I'm not sure how all that works but I know when my BF worked in mental health he couldn't acknowledge that he knew any patient if he encountered them outside the clinical setting.

gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 22:29 (nine years ago)

I hope that my positivity doesnt come across as obnoxious but I just wanted to update with some good news.

We've each messed around separately a couple times, as yet only with people we're already acquainted with. And there's been a lot of talking about it, exhaustively so, which is good. It's new and adventuresome and occasionally confusing and bewildering but so far so good.

gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 16:53 (nine years ago)

As I have already told Steve, I had a really great date with a friend last night.

gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 16:54 (nine years ago)

There are a couple things that I'm working through around the whole thing, one of which is being receptive to sexual attention from guys other than my partner without feeling embarrassed or guilty about it. I've still got my fair share of hangups but I'm glad for the chance to confront them at the very least

gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 17:15 (nine years ago)

that's very cool :-) it all sounds p good so far! and again, any questions, i've already asked myself all of them soooo i'm around :P

surm, Wednesday, 24 February 2016 17:36 (nine years ago)

In general tho I'm just feeling like I'm going through a second puberty -- I'm on meds that have cranked my libido to 11 and I'm exploring my sexuality in a way I never really got the chance to before. Anyway, I know its probably not very interesting to anybody else but me but this all has been taking up a large part of my consciousness lately so thanks for letting me barf up my feelings here

gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 17:37 (nine years ago)

Hi gays! Glad this thread was bumped, because I have some feelings of my own that I feel like barfing up...

The husband and I going to an event tomorrow night where there will be a lot of people--friends of my family, mainly--that I haven't seen in years and in some cases, since I was a little kid. I expect it'll be fun and nostalgic for the most part, but I just realized that I will, in effect, be coming out all over again to many of these people. This should be nbd, of course, as I've been out to my family and friends for years now, but as I go around introducing lots of people to my husband tomorrow night, I'm feeling like I'm gonna be reliving the whole process all over again. My coming out was hardly traumatic, as many people's are, so maybe I should just shut up about this and deal with my (very mild) discomfort, but it is still a weird feeling. I suspect that a lot of heteros--and even a lot of homos, etc, before they actually experience it--think that coming out is this one shot thing where once your out, your out to the world, but it really is a process of coming out over and over and over again. Anyone else feel this way?

pitchforkian at best (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 17:39 (nine years ago)

The continuous project of "coming out" socially doesn't really feel like a problem for me but I do find myself paying attention whenever I first mention "my boyfriend" to see how it plays. In general I think it's easier when your partner is present or when you have a partner you can bring up in conversation. Surely part of that is just expedient -- you have someone else you can easily, organically refer to that gives your identity that context -- but I also think maybe it's easier to "come out" as part of a couple. "We're gay, together" is more socially palatable than "I, myself, am gay."

gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 22:06 (nine years ago)

Good point! Having a boyfriend/husband to introduce immediately takes care of a lot of dancing around the issue. Though I still expect to be doing a lot of reading of facial expressions to gauge reactions.

pitchforkian at best (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 22:15 (nine years ago)

hi everyone. i haven't been on the boards in forever but i wandered by to talk about music and figured i should say hi and i miss you all and hope you're well.

i've been in Toronto for 19 months, and single for 20 (which has been awesome, mostly. ignoring boys altogether has been really healthy tbh after two consecutive long term relationships that both ended poorly), and unemployed for 6-7 months but ~fingers crossed~ that looks like it could be changing soon finally (maybe, i shouldn't jinx it). i took over the lease in the apartment I was subletting a few months ago and painted the whole place and it feels almost like home, so maybe 2016 will be a good year? it's too early to tell.

i still haven't figured out how to date in this city, and for a while most of my friends here were straight folks which literally hadn't happened since these threads started - it was all very "I have no gay friends in town" but I turned a bad date into a good friend last summer and then met a bunch of awesome queer women and then recently met some neighbourhood gays who gather every month or two to make DUMPLINGS! and whatnot.
