Remember when ILM was balls deep in fighting over copyrights about some posts about the Strokes

9 year old threads do usually seem a little hazier to me, but sometimes I'll dig up a thread I started a few months ago only to discover it was from like 2012 or something.

The shifts in tone across the different eras is fascinating to read.

In one of the Ali threads someone commented about how ILX-y it is to view things through an American-y lens, a complete 180 from what the 2001-2 threads look like where this place might as well be a UK BBS.

Hello everyone. I'm doing alright, and more touched than I probably really should be by the mention - but it does mean something to me, particularly when I probably haven't posted since the last World Cup.

I can't really remember why I drifted away. I got busy I guess, and had to cut some things out and get on with real life. I barely have an online presence in any respect now. I ran out of puff I suppose; I remember not really enjoying it, I don't really remember why. It certainly wasn't the creative writing thing - that went really well I thought. But writing is another thing I've had to leave behind.

Plus I'd been here a long time and was starting to repeat myself too often. As if to prove the point, I just had a read of Nick's 'best first listen' thread and was tempted to make a double return by adding another voice for Discovery, among others - but I had a vague feeling, checked back and found I'd made an identical post about five years ago. Nobody needs that.

Anyway much <3 to all. I do still have the occasional lurk from time to time - I've even put in the odd ballot when there's a poll I dig.

Otherwise I'm exactly as you'd expect, sitting on my couch enjoying my man Giroud ripping it up at the Euros. Aren't ITV's Art Deco credits lovely?

I miss Lex. His taste generally could not be more different than mine and his argument style sometimes frustrated me, but this is a poorer place for his absence.

Lex was one of the few posters I was aware of before coming on here as he had written a mean review of a friend's music, and I found him objectionable at first, however I have come around to his pov on quite a lot of music since then. Only thing I'd stick on is his enthusiasm for hating things, it seemed like his main motivation when it came to music and this is something I will never get my head around. Some of his posts are absolute gold of course.

Although he pops up on very rare occasions, I miss the urbane, humorous, compassionate and sensible presence of Michael White.

I don't think I hate comedy to the extent the lex does, but it was hilarious, and i generally agreed. his music loves and enthusiasms were (and are) great, and he just expressed with... well *wit*, in perhaps the older sense of intelligence and sharpness. (his dismissive dislikes were also often amusing). really good writer - can write those two or three line capsule reviews with a sort of twist of the wrist that conveyed much more than you would think the number of words could. as a verby slowcoach myself, I could only envy it. miss his music recommendations and views, sure.
