Completely unwatchable. But he's in shit (IRL too judging from that photo) so it doesn't matter.

Allen (etaeoe), Saturday, 24 December 2016 22:02 (eight years ago)

He's cute enough, but I haven't had much cause to develop any kind of attachment to him yet. Which is to say, he's been good in some movies that I haven't been that crazy about (Inside Llewyn Davis, Midnight Special, and sort of puzzlingly emo in another (Force Awakens). I'm interested in seeing what he can do in the new Jarmusch and Scorsese pics.

I liked The Report. not remarkable in any way, but politically sound and mostly taut. I really appreciated the Zero Dark Thirty dig. I don't think the torture scenes were necessary, suggestion would've sufficed and compression would've helped, because it those sequences did verge into ZDT territory at times. It was a little soft on Obama, but it's more explicitly critical than any other movie on this level I've seen.

Agree with flappy that The Report's not remarkable, but I liked it too and Adam Driver's very good and felt well cast.

Minor observation... He had a subtle stress tic below his eye in some of the higher stakes scenes that I wondered if he was managing to call up on demand and was impressed by if so. Will be disappointed if that's where any CGI/FX budget went.

this is why you don't really understand why he's a star

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 19 December 2019 20:24 (five years ago)

true. why, then, is he a star?

mookieproof, Thursday, 19 December 2019 21:10 (five years ago)

GIRLS

Οὖτις, Thursday, 19 December 2019 21:10 (five years ago)

and then from there to Baumbach, Star Wars, Jarmusch, Spike Lee, etc.

Οὖτις, Thursday, 19 December 2019 21:11 (five years ago)

it's hilarious that the douchebag that quit the show to focus on his film career completely bombed out/disappeared and Driver stuck around and went on to become the huge breakout star

Οὖτις, Thursday, 19 December 2019 21:12 (five years ago)

that guy starred in the Clooney-produced Catch-22 (didn't see it)

AD made his first film w/ Baumbach before "Girls" aired

xmas respecter (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 19 December 2019 21:18 (five years ago)

it's also a small part

xmas respecter (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 19 December 2019 21:19 (five years ago)

Wow I totally forgot about that other guy on Girls, I hated that character

change display name (Jordan), Thursday, 19 December 2019 21:19 (five years ago)

i believe so xxp

anyway Driver has a galvanic presence and Juilliard training; that is part of why he is a star, besides some of the usual luck. (also found supremely fuckable by many ppl who like men)

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 19 December 2019 21:21 (five years ago)

(i have a sneaky feeling the guy who quit Girls absolutely hated L.D., which i can respect)

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 19 December 2019 21:22 (five years ago)

I like men and would not fuck him, although many people who like men found me a galvanic presence.

Οὖτις, Thursday, 19 December 2019 21:50 (five years ago)

I was first made aware of his galvanism watching Inside Llewyn Davis

El Tomboto, Thursday, 19 December 2019 22:12 (five years ago)

and Driver's?

Every generation gets the Dustin Hoffman it deserves.

I love that he sings "Being Alive"! My favorite Sondheim, not least of all being that it feels like my biography.

Gotta finally watch MS now.

I mean I know what Terry is saying here but isn't it just faintly possible that he didn't hear or immediately understand the instruction to take his earpiece out, heard his voice, got super anxious, and peaced?

Speaking as hyperanxious guy, if you're overwhelmed and freaking out, leaving the site of your misery is usually first course of action. Apologize later.

i'm interested

The first look at Adam Driver and Lady Gaga in Ridley Scott's #HouseofGucci.

We named it one of our most-anticipated films of the year: https://t.co/BYBXgZxvKn pic.twitter.com/29X76uX8GU

Also interested in Lady Gaga acting in a movie other than the Bradley Cooper one

totally

ten months pass...

So many "So what you're telling me is..." expository scenes in The Report. Adam Driver is too good an actor to play a boy scout.

Apparently he has a new movie out where he fights dinosaurs with a laser gun? Knowing nothing more about it, I can't think of another would-be blockbuster more destined for the dustbin. What was that Will Smith family players space movie? "After Earth"?
