One thing mayo is good for is making a good tuna salad, with which you can then make a delicious sandwich.

The more critical component is relish, though.

I'm ambivalent about tuna, but I feel the need to point out that Laura Nyro was the ultimate tuna fish sandwich connoisseur:

"Laura didn't really cook," explains Geffen. "Tuna Fish--you opened a can and put mayonnaise in it." Tuna fish had also been Gilda Nigro's specialty, so perhaps her daughter had a genetic predispotion. When it came time to name Nyro's publishing company, Bomser sauys it was he who suggested the name Tuna Fish Music. "She loved the idea," he says. "I mean, that's the only thing she knew how to make."

"I wouldn't call it anything else," Nyro said of her company's name. As for the tuna itself, she insisted it be Bumble Bee brand, white meat, with Hellman's mayonnaise, a teaspoon of cream cheese, some diced red onion, and a pinch of lemon pepper. From there, she said, you could branch out.

At the moment, I am working at a Subway inside of a Walmart.

I had a customer come in one day and everything started out smoothly. This lady had been coming in for quite some time, so I kind of recognized her. She’s your typical Walmart customer. Overweight, looking like trailer trash and riding (as we call them in our store) a fat cart. She orders a footlong tuna sandwich and wants us to put all the veggies on it. So, like I said, everything was going smooth until after the veggies were placed on the sandwich. That’s when she said to me, “This may be a strange request.” At this point, I’m thinking that I’ve heard many a people say that, and it’s never really that strange. So, I ask her what she wants and she proceeded to ask me to put 4 white macadamia nut cookies on her tuna sandwich. I think I gave her a really disgusted look, but I’m not sure. I obliged and placed the cookies on her sandwich, but she wasn’t done yet. She then asked me to cover the cookies with vinegar until they were soggy and ready to fall apart. Then to top it off, she made me double up on the mayo over the soggy cookies. At this point, I felt like I wanted to puke all over her sandwich. I think I may have a little into the back of my throat.

This lady is now a regular customer and she gets this same thing every single day.

I notice there is no ABOMINATION choice in this poll. Fish from a can or tin is disgusting, and I have refused it ever since little me was undergoing chemotherapy, some genius decided a tuna hotdish was what's for dinner, and waves of nausea led to a proj vom of epic proportions. I loathe canned tuna more than any other foodstuff (it's not tuna per se, because it's awesome in sushi and great seared, and I found lox-style smoked tuna once and loved it).

The Britishes are lovely people mostly, but I will loudly judge the lot of you for the puke-alike abomination that is tuna and sweetcorn, especially when it appears barf-like atop some poor, defenceless baked potato.

Right, let me gross-out the Americans again.

Every Wednesday growing up my mum worked in the evening so she'd prepare a tuna fish pie during the day that I'd put in the oven to heat so it was ready when my dad got home.

Tuna fish pie consisted of canned tuna mixed with canned condensed mushroom soup, topped with mash potato, and a sprinkling of cheese on top.

I've not had this in years but I reckon it would be perfect comfort food.

But there is nowt wrong with this particular model of sarnie imo. It is sort of classic - but I see the BLT as a classic as well and even the chattering classes love a BLT maybe?. So I thought tuna casserole made with condensed canned soup (bleeugh) was a particularly midwestern thing but there you are, some UK people also mentioning it.

Does anyone do it the way I grew up with it? The sauce is bechamel. Thick bechamel, onions, tuna and then add whatever else you want (some people do corn, some apple or pineapple PS THIS IS WRONG AND AWFUL). Top with cheese and breadcrumbs or mash then cheesy topping then bake.

Tinned tuna is fine if you eat it soon. There are more things that smell bad that people eat. Ever since i moved to LA i find there is a lot more stinky food here that wasn't smelly where i moved from.
