They're weird phrases, too. If anyone ever said them to me, their origins in an old sitcom as catch phrases escaped me entirely, so that they were just some strange thing(s) a person decided to say for unknown reasons. 1975 to 1985 are nearly a pure void in my knowledge of popular broadcast television.

I used to get mad as a kid when they shortened the theme to cut out the pre-chorus that rarely got played after early seasons

There are a number of shows whose theme songs seem to have been selected more or less at random from a box of generic theme song submission tapes. Occasionally, the artist would be asked to amend the song so as to include the show's title (see: the Silver Spoons theme writer, who clearly didn't know or bother to ask what 'silver spoons' actually referred to), but as long as the lyrics made some vague reference to humans interacting with other humans it was basically good enough for broadcast.

It was sad the day all those things went away, I agree.

Theme song was oddly prophetic about the decline of paperboys and evening TV, it's true.

Btw, I have never seen Silver Spoons and only know of it because it has been referenced on ilx. I'm sure it was better than Full House, though, which is sort of the thing. Like, I feel like this show has endured more strongly in the public's imagination than Family Ties, even.

Having recently been sucked into an episode when I realized that it was inexplicably being broadcast on actual tv in the year 2018, I can promise you that Silver Spoons is at least as bad as Full House.

(These cable networks dedicated to shows that haven't even been seen in reruns for the past thirty years are very good at snuffing out any lingering illusions you might have that the programs you watched as a kid were anything but terrible.)

TMNT was a spin-off of Full House IIRC (from the season when Joey got that job as the pitchman for shredded cheese and got completely lost in his Shredder persona until Stephanie taught him an important lesson about family and sharing and not unleashing hordes of robotic ninjas on San Francisco).
