awright, there's gonna be a NYC fap-type shindig next friday, nov 15.

time and location TBA.

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 7 November 2002 00:56 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll be there after bryan ferry, obv. wait for me?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 7 November 2002 01:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I can show everyone my fantastic new phone that allows me to take pictures of Sigfried and Roy! It plays polka songs! No monkeys with colds!

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 7 November 2002 02:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, and I should mention that this is Geeta's birthday. Maybe Yancey can come & pick up his gifts...

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 7 November 2002 03:21 (twenty-three years ago)

ally is on the goofballs.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 7 November 2002 03:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Cool, and that's 15 days away from my birthday, so we can celebrate that too. :-)

Don't forget about roller skating on the 9th!

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 7 November 2002 03:24 (twenty-three years ago)

you NYCers have all the damn fun!

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh if I'm invited, I might come: I'll be in NYC then. But I won't be out late because I'll be off to see the Clientele play later in the evening. That's at the Knitting Factory so meeting somewhere which would allow me reasonably easy passage to the show would be ideal. But don't mind me, obv.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I won't be roller skating, but I will be there on the 15th to pick up my gifts. My presents this year sucked (not really).

Yancey (ystrickler), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

damn - I'm DJing the night before (Thursday Nov 14th for the challenged) and I was gonna ask you all along for a meetup. but Geeta's birthday night's a higher cause than a one-off guest spot.

if anyone wants to check out both, I'm guesting at Japanese DJ (Shunji & Bone-Bon) UK Garage night 'Hatch' - at Orchard Bar on Orchard just below Houston St. not sure what time yet - probably early (11ish?) for work force convenience.

Paul (scifisoul), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:36 (twenty-three years ago)

:'(

again

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth half your Adam Ant face paint has come off

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Hopefully my building will HAVE WATER BY THEN. I'm ready to hop a cab to QUeens to take a bloody shower. Fuck.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh no -- Clientele and Bryan Ferry on the same night. Please start this party early enough and keep it going long enough to accomodate both Tim and I.

Gareth: you will be present in our hearts:)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 7 November 2002 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be there, as long as it's not in Ring Nebula or whatever.

geeta, would you like to suggest a suitable uptown/Harlem/"SoHa" or whatever place near you since you've been so valiant about traveling throughout the boroughs for previous meetups?

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 7 November 2002 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw yeah, NYCFAP, Harlem edition! [Self-interestedness disclosure: Mr. Ferry plays on the Upper West Side.] Say, I don't suppose any of you losers will be in attendance? (Sorry, I turned all Marcello for a second.)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 7 November 2002 18:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Can I be in your hearts as well? Or if Gareth is too big, maybe your spleens or bone marrow?

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 7 November 2002 19:38 (twenty-three years ago)

i was thinking dinner in the upper west side (around 70th) if ppl don't mind

and then drinking afterwards. i have no prob with going someplace downtown tho, i heart the express trains

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 7 November 2002 19:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate all of you; why do you get to live in the best city evah?

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 7 November 2002 20:35 (twenty-three years ago)

uptown's fr suckahs.

Yancey (ystrickler), Thursday, 7 November 2002 20:38 (twenty-three years ago)

haha let's not get into an uptown-downtown FITE

ok i will have it downtown -- i am a sap. i will call my pals the strokes and see what they're up to

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 7 November 2002 20:44 (twenty-three years ago)

(Geeta's birthday = 1 day before mine.)

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 7 November 2002 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah, I don't care. I work in Times Square and get off at 7, so I won't be able to attend until 7:30 or 8, depending on the location. But I don't really care where it is. I will be there regardless.

Yancey (ystrickler), Thursday, 7 November 2002 20:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I cast my vote for uptown.

Uptown bars:
Delbar - no drink over $3, 400% Dynamite on the stereo.
Ding Dong - like a punk rock theme park.
1020: the Steve Forbert of bars.

November 15th is also opening day at the uptown ice skating rink. Unless I break something on the 9th, I will be skating, blades freshly sharpened and gleaming, from 6-8 or so; and then meet you all, for by then I shall desperately FAP. Anybody care to join me? (This will not be your last chance to ice skate this winter.)

Paul Eater (eater), Thursday, 7 November 2002 20:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I love 1020, although Delbar sounds stellar.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 7 November 2002 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

teeny: we pay for the privilege, through the nose and other orifices.

Correction: Nov. 15th isn't actually opening day for the rink -- it's open already.

Paul Eater (eater), Thursday, 7 November 2002 21:01 (twenty-three years ago)

No drink over $3 means I am there.

Yancey (ystrickler), Thursday, 7 November 2002 21:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Paul, I haven't been ice skating since eighth grade, and I wasn't too good at it then. I'm worried I might break something. (Let's see how I fare roller-wise on the 9th.)

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 7 November 2002 21:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Paul Eater, yes I will join for you the skating, if we can then off to the Bryan Ferry, and then, and only then, much refreshed with gallant good looks and a lovely singing voice inititiate desperate FAP action!

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 7 November 2002 22:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I going to try to get down to NYC Friday, but I don't know if I'll make it. Everybody have several under $3 drinks for me..I think I know where I'll be on Saturday...

brg30 (brg30), Friday, 8 November 2002 00:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Mary, what exactly is "Michael Kamen's Opus with Bryan Adams & Bryan Ferry"?

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 8 November 2002 07:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, twist my arm then...when the place is decided for sure email it to me private-like, 'k?

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 8 November 2002 08:12 (twenty-three years ago)

"Michael Kamen's Opus with Bryan Adams & Bryan Ferry"

more context, please?

yay, Matos is in!

Mary (Mary), Friday, 8 November 2002 15:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Mary: it's on this page listing the Beacon Theatre show.

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 8 November 2002 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Paul: that is both disarming & troubling. I will try to erase any such memory of this info from my mind...

Mary (Mary), Friday, 8 November 2002 16:50 (twenty-three years ago)

So that's not the show you're seeing, Mary? Too bad.

Delbar is good but rather small, so if we have a large crowd we may want to migrate.

Or does the dropoff in responses mean you all would prefer to not be shanghaied uptown? Geeta, care to take the reins/blame?

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 8 November 2002 18:18 (twenty-three years ago)

As far as I know, my show is all Ferry all the time, b-but, who knows?...No, I'm all about an uptown meet, let's just pick a place...and the posts...will follow?...

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 9 November 2002 03:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Hell, this is the first time anyone's been even remotely positive about being uptown, I'm all for it. Where's the Ferry show? The Beacon? Or are there like many? Anyway. There's like 100 bars like one avenue over from that, we could pick one of those. I've been in all of them, they're all at least passable. And right next door to my house, practically so I have no excuse not to come.

Geeta, what restaurant you doing dinner at? And how does this factor in the Knitting Factory mentioned in all up thread?

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 9 November 2002 23:31 (twenty-three years ago)

i haven't picked a restaurant or a bar yet, so all of yr suggestions/recommendations are welcome. i've only lived here for a few months, so i defer to those with greater experience. you guys don't need to come up near columbia -- all the bars around there remind me of school, and i'll likely end up running into a lot of people from school that i don't like. ally, what bars do you like near you that wouldn't be too crowded on a friday?

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 10 November 2002 00:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Ferry is at the Beacon, yes! If anyone would like to join me and Bryan, you are more than welcome...

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 10 November 2002 03:25 (twenty-three years ago)

new answerz!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 11 November 2002 04:40 (twenty-three years ago)

nyc has apparently gotten disturbingly twee since all the homeless people were hushed away to the secret underground salt mines.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 11 November 2002 05:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to go to the $3 drink place on the Upper West Side for sociological reasons. I had no idea you could get drinks that cheap up there.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 11 November 2002 06:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Del Bar, 945 Columbus, @106th Street.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 11 November 2002 06:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm in for Del Bar. After living here for 2.5 years, I think this will be maybe the fifth time I've been that far uptown. Second time for drinking.

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 11 November 2002 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Err, that far away from where I'm supposed to be might be a bit adventurous for me in my first night in New York, but I'll try. What sort of time were you thinking of meeting?

Tim (Tim), Monday, 11 November 2002 16:25 (twenty-three years ago)

It's exciting that so many of you are willing to visit the surprisingly habitable geographical middle of our glorious island.

What time does Bryan get off, Mary? And do you think he'd like to come along?

Geeta: what were you thinking about dinner beforehand?

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 11 November 2002 16:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm surprised by the lack of Tracer Hand's crying over the fact that we're going to be uptown...

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 11 November 2002 16:59 (twenty-three years ago)

haha oh god if i run into any columbia j-school kids at delbar i'm blaming you all. friday night the j-school goes out to one of those bars -- either that, or maybe ding dong.

does anyone have recommendations for a good place to get dinner around that morningside heights-ish netherworld? i'm thinking no.

geeta, Monday, 11 November 2002 19:50 (twenty-three years ago)

there are two really good Ethiopian restaurants around 121st street and 119th street, both @ Amsterdam

felicity (felicity), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

this place is kind of good, the ayurveda cafe, on amersterdam and 95, one of those indian restaurants, where, you know, there is only one thing on the menu per day, yay! eliminates choices!

http://www.gotham2go.com/index.php/20/68

i would love to join for dinner, though i don't see how i can make it, though in my dream world i see myself iceskating in central park north, heading over to amerstam ave. for some grate indian food...darn that bryan, cutting into all of my ilm time...

oh, just as i was about to post felicity snuck in before me, yes i can vouch for those ethiopian restaurants too, but we don't want to get another frowny face from gareth, now do we?

and of course, nabisco, you will be in our hearts, but better yet, just get on the plane and be in our sight, or rather, send nory, haven't heard head nor tail out of her of late...

paul, i imagine he would finish around 10:30/11 providing the bryan adams singalong is but a hoax...

Mary (Mary), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Good call, Felicity. Those places are both v. tasty. There's also excellent Ethiopian at 107th or so and Amsterdam. They have beets, which I haven't seen at any other Ethiopian joint.

Um, off the top of my head, the taqueria across the street is excellent too but can't hold more than 6, of us probably; same situation with A, the great restaurant adjoining Delbar.

Spoonbread on 110th and Columbus has fine fine soul food. Carne, at 105th and Broadway, is reputed to be quite good as well. Symposium is a very convivial Greek joint on 113th. Noche Mexicana, at 101st and Amsterdam, is terrific Mexican with a more peaceful ambiance than the taquerias.

And there are other options if we start down in Upperwestsideland.

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Nory just finished Invisible Man, so I imagine she'll be back on the board for the discussion.

I can't decide whether to say (a) "don't you dare go get Ethiopian food the one time I'm not in town" or (b) "yes, go get Ethiopian food, the waiter will look like me and that'll be better than nothing." If Nory wants to join you she can even give a few cooking instructions in Amharic (and I think I told her how to say "water" last time).

I'd be skeptical of any Ethiopian place that has beets.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyone know a good place in the city to get hushpuppies? I've been jonesing for months now.

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:35 (twenty-three years ago)

nabisco, are you ethiopian? yum, hushpuppies! are there those traditional seafood restaurant chains in ny, like long john silvers or red lobster and whatnot? could be a good bet...

Mary (Mary), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

If we get hushpuppies I promise I won't whine once. I bet the soul food place has them.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Mmmmmmm hushpuppies mmmmmmmmm.

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Yancey: Spoonbread on 110th, like I said, or Bayou on 126th and Lenox, or any of a million other places in Harlem. Also I think the Hog Pit on 13th and 9th has them and probably Delta Grill on 9th Ave at 47th or so.

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

What time would dinner be? The earliest I could be up there would be around 6:30 or so...

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:15 (twenty-three years ago)

mmm...soul food...

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

There used to be a place on Dekalb whose hushpuppies were so good they changed their frickin name to "Hushpuppies". And then they had to go and close down! I'm trying a new place Thursday on Flatbush and Sterling called "Biscuit".

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Delta Grill is good. May I also recommend Virgil's and Tennessee Mountain?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Let me know how Biscuit is, Tracer. That's in me hood...

I've been wanting hushpuppies since February. I went home to Virginia in May and traversed to Long John Silvers solely to get some hps. But they were very unsatisfying. The craving returned in June and has still not been quenched. What am I, preggers or something???

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooooooooooh Ethiopian food. I love kitfo. Though hushpuppies, of course, are also yummy. Can I still come, even though I haven't been around lately (or, um, ever, for that matter)? I've been struck by sudden mysterious motivation, and thus have been working like a madwoman and have been trying to stay away from the temptation of ILE.

nory (nory), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't eat. So can someone who attends the dinner like call me when the dinner is finished so I can come and BOOZE IT UP HARDCORE?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:36 (twenty-three years ago)

This thread R0X0R because my two favorite types of food are soul food and Ethiopian.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I love Ethiopian food. One of my closest friends is from Addis Ababba (he moved back there earlier this year), and his sister used to make huge Ethiopian feasts roughly once a month. They were amazing. But unfortunately I have yet to have an Ethiopian meal in a restaurant that is anywhere near as good.

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Yancey--have you been to Ghenet on Mulberry?

nory (nory), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer: Damn it. Flatbush and Sterling is just two blocks from the Empire Roller Rink, where we were dying -- DYING -- for fried deliciousness on Saturday night.

If only we had known.

I don't care what time things happen on Friday, but maybe dinner at 7:30/8, drinks after?

(there is actually a soul food AND Ethiopian combo restaurant on 117th Street or somewhere that I went to years ago, but I don't know if I could find it again.)

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I have not been to Ghenet. It comes recommended?

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Count me in as an "after dinner" person if y'all go somewhere too exotic for this simple midwesterner's tastes.

bnw (bnw), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I love Ghenet. That's the one I always take people to.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer: Damn it. Flatbush and Sterling is just two blocks from the Empire Roller Rink, where we were dying -- DYING -- for fried deliciousness on Saturday night.

Yeah, at 3 am!

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Ghenet is great. And it gets Nabisco's stamp of approval, as well.

nory (nory), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:02 (twenty-three years ago)

which sounds like it's made by elves, but it's not.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:03 (twenty-three years ago)

It's good. It's like minimalist Ethiopian -- they pass on the
home-cooked feel and concentrate on emphasizing the flavors of the meats and spices.

Just don't call it "Genét," as if we're French or something.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:28 (twenty-three years ago)

what is it with this board and beets??

mark s (mark s), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:43 (twenty-three years ago)

beet is code for 'beer'

so, ghenet it is? i am down with that

geeta, Monday, 11 November 2002 22:45 (twenty-three years ago)

is amsterdam near the apollo? cz i had ethiopian the night i saw george clinton at the apollo last time i wz in nyc (=maybe eight years ago, when sistrah becky lived in bay ridge and worked at magnum)

also i got to sit in the back of a cop car (it's TRUE!!)

mark s (mark s), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:45 (twenty-three years ago)

call me crazy, but do you think dinner in NoLiTa/drinks on 106th street may be mutually exclusive?

felicity (felicity), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:48 (twenty-three years ago)

It doesn't have to be. We can all ride Vespas uptown to the bar after shitting our guts out.

Nory, Nabisco & JBR: Thanks for the recommendation. I will go there soon.

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:55 (twenty-three years ago)

mark s, didn't anybody ever tell you about "the boards and the beets"?

felicity (felicity), Monday, 11 November 2002 23:06 (twenty-three years ago)

er, would people really be opposed to being downtown for both dinner and drinking? say, ghenet for dinner and then drinking someplace near there? morningside heights/soha might be a novelty for you guys, but i'm here every day and if i spend much more time in this area i will go nuts. unless y'all get me really drunk so i can start fights with all the columbia students here who piss me off

geeta, Monday, 11 November 2002 23:11 (twenty-three years ago)

so rainy's favourite croissant filling is beer!! well i guess that figures

(i had filed it under Major Mouth Error, but i can i can rejig)

mark s (mark s), Monday, 11 November 2002 23:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Sadly, I will not make it to the FAP, because Felicity's pun has killed me.

I love the neighborhood in question -- despite spending a great deal of time there -- and have perhaps proselytized for it too strongly in this thread. I would be thrilled to meet everybody uptown (and I think Awash can hold its own against Ghenet), but if downtown is the order of the day, let my upthread advocacy not waylay us. Botanica is a fine, spacious bar quite close to Ghenet.

Although "unless y'all get me really drunk" isn't much of a challenge.

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 11 November 2002 23:30 (twenty-three years ago)

so who's comin' to my guest DJ UK Garage gig at Orchard Bar on Thursday, then? it's gonna be very early - 9:30 or 10pm to 11:30 - plus it's free admission! nice, dark & mysterious - good place to drink... I'll be playing some of that nu-garridge people been chattin bout on ILM

Paul (scifisoul), Monday, 11 November 2002 23:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Yancey I'm from VA too! Long John Silver's ahoy! Whoa! Nory's back! That's f un, I simply have to say a name and they magically appear -- of course you can come! In fact, your presence is required! Aw, I was getting my war on for some Soha partay action hahaha -- though less of a novelty in my case, than an, aw! nostalgia, where I schooled/lived/took strange drugs, etc...maybe our Soha rave put off to another day, say after ice skating, brr..., Paulie, I'll come if you...introduce me to your cute Japanese regular house djs...By the way, any of you fools going to Divine Comedy this Wed. at the Merc. Lounge? What kind of an Anglophilic board is this anyway, when I can't even get any hot Neil Hannon action going...? Oh no! Googlers alert! Oh no!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 00:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I vote for downtown. I always vote for downtown. Because I'm lazy.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 01:45 (twenty-three years ago)

That is k-lazy, as you are not even coming, or...are you? Oulilpoboy badboy hasn't e-mailed you sorry, he is lazy!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 01:54 (twenty-three years ago)

haha i just got back from ding dong lounge on 106th actually, where i commiserated about life's miseries with a cute retro chick bartender in a GBH shirt held together with safety pins who fed me free menthols and brooklyn lagers. then some guy who called himself 'detroit' walked in and we talked about eminem's greatness for a while between marlboros, before he started rambling about doing carpentry work in poughkeepsie. then they let me play records. good selection. yeah uptown's alright.

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 03:05 (twenty-three years ago)

See, thank you, someone else is backing up my uptown bar stories. These joints are all insane.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 03:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Why the hell is Nory logged in as me?

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 04:28 (twenty-three years ago)

This means she hasn't looked at ILE from home since I was in town. It also explains why the server kept telling me I'd read things I was pretty sure I hadn't read.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 04:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I sure hope she hasn't been posting to the "how many bras do you own" thread like that.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 04:30 (twenty-three years ago)

ok!! ethiopian taking sides: ghenet (mulberry) vs meskerem (47th) vs awash (106)

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 04:42 (twenty-three years ago)

ghenet (mulberry) vs meskerem (47th) vs awash (106)

For the first and perhaps only time, I would prefer DC.

Benjamin, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 18:11 (twenty-three years ago)

ok we have a verdict!

dinner will be at ghenet at 7 pm
284 mulberry street
between e. houston street and jersey street

drinking will start at 9pm-ish
at a bar which has yet to be determined

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 03:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Convenient subway stops near said ristorante?

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 04:19 (twenty-three years ago)

f, 6, v to bway-lafayette or q, n, r to prince st

first bar after dinner (around 9pm-ish) will be BOTANICA (47 e houston between mulberry & mott)

howevah if it is too crowded then the first bar will be ACE BAR (531 e 5th st between ave a & b)

from there we will move on to successive bars

koritfw!!

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 04:38 (twenty-three years ago)

hahahahahaha I think you should trek back uptown for drinking, there's your riding the subway all night for yers.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 04:39 (twenty-three years ago)

that's what the spaceships are for!! anything is possible!!

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 04:42 (twenty-three years ago)

So who will be there tomorrow night? We need a roll call.

Yancey (ystrickler), Thursday, 14 November 2002 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

me, not sure what time, waiting to find out time on interview

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 14 November 2002 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be in around 10:30, that is if you all don't pull an en-masse desertion on me!

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 14 November 2002 18:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I plan on showing up, 7:00 on the dot.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 14 November 2002 18:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Assuming I can breathe, then yes, I'll be there at some point. This is a bigger assumption than one would think.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 14 November 2002 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not positive about dinner, but I will, at the very least, be there for drinking. This will definitely be at either Ace Bar or Botanica, yes?

Yancey (ystrickler), Thursday, 14 November 2002 18:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll probably be there. Not sure how late I'm gonna stay though; I haven't been feeling well.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 14 November 2002 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I will show up at 7. Maybe even 6:58.

rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 14 November 2002 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I am feeling very fit and healthy so I will be there, with my drinking shoes on, circa 9 o'clock. Possibly lugging around ice skates if I haven't had a chance to go home.

Paul Eater (eater), Thursday, 14 November 2002 20:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Geeta, will dinner be primarily comprised of your real friends celebrating your birthday?

Yancey (ystrickler), Thursday, 14 November 2002 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll join up for the drinking, strictly for the honor of seeing Mr Popkins. Or will Tim be at the Cleen-tell show already? So sad. Has a bar been decided off thread? I thought Rosemary said something about Botanica, which I'm all for--good DJing on Friday nights, if it's still Matt Finewine. I do hope you're not spending the whole evening uptown, if so you'll have to count me out. Sorry Ally.

Laurel, Thursday, 14 November 2002 21:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think they're spending any of it uptown, as usual.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 14 November 2002 22:14 (twenty-three years ago)

OK my plan is to have eaten by 7 and to begin the project which is my first ever night in NY with The Drinking. I'm confused by all this talk of different bits of NYC. Are we saying that those of us who wish not to waste good drinking time on fripperies such as eating should meet at some gaff called the Botanica in an as yet undisclosed location at 7 or thereabouts?

I'll be the fat ignorant English drunk.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 14 November 2002 22:33 (twenty-three years ago)

No, Tim. It's either Botanica or Ace Bar around 9. Look upthread. It's really all up to Geeta.

Yancey (ystrickler), Thursday, 14 November 2002 22:38 (twenty-three years ago)

OK cheers Yancey but I'm saying I'm intending to kick off bouzing while those of you who are eating are eating. Because my time at this FAP will be short, if anyone who isn't eating fancies an early pint (like 7 or so) then I'll install myself in Botanica (sweet lord nothing short of free bouze would tempt me to darken the door of a bar called Botanica in London).

(I should add that I will be at the Clientele show and I'd like to catch the support (Archer Prewitt) too so my timetable will fit around that)

I'll try to check back to this thread tomorrow. I'm very excited, by the way.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 14 November 2002 22:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim why are you having your own pint without any of us?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 14 November 2002 22:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Look, Nory, Archer Prewitt is in town!

(Nory lusts after Archer Prewitt.)

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 14 November 2002 22:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I would be willing to skip the dinner and meet up earlier. I never eat dinner, so I would be heading to that mainly for social reasons. I would rather drink. Is there a group willing to hook up for drinks at 7?

Yancey (ystrickler), Thursday, 14 November 2002 22:53 (twenty-three years ago)

yo! there's no majority from one camp at dinner -- it's looking like equal parts ilx and non-ilx, judging from the rsvp's i've gotten so far by email. mass hilarity will ensue i am sure. at any rate i plan on getting trashed at ghenet on wine before the boozing even starts.

as for drinking shenanigans, the bars will keep changing so if you dont like the name of the bar (cough cough tim) thats ok there will be several others over the course of the nite.

email me if you haven't already and i'll give you my cell phone # so you can find us. word to your mothers. koritfw, dj sonic geeta

geeta (geeta), Friday, 15 November 2002 01:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Right, then it's a plan. I'm up for starting the boozing at 7ish, anywhere you like below, say, 23rd Street. Eating is for peasants. I'll give this thread a check tomorrow evening for any recent developments on the venue.

Whoot!

Laurel, Friday, 15 November 2002 02:28 (twenty-three years ago)

So, all the non Ghenet diners are up for meeting at Botanica at 7 then?

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 15 November 2002 02:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I will gladly eat w/ the strange peasants and follow everyone around to various bars until I have to return to CT and polish my pumpkin. Geeta, you can expect approximately 47 calls from me as I get myself wonderfully lost. Woooooo!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 15 November 2002 04:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I may be at Botanica earlier than 9, but probably not quite at 7. What will you all be wearing?

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 15 November 2002 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Paul this is Laurel (on the right) and this is tim (on the left). hey look it's Ben on the right in that photo too, is he still around?

how can you tell i'm bored at work, i'm looking at threads about FAPs 3,000 miles away...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 15 November 2002 16:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Can I come?? I am desperate to avoid the Children in Need night.

(oh and you lot are all dead cool and stuff)

Sarah (starry), Friday, 15 November 2002 16:25 (twenty-three years ago)

So what are ILMers doing at 7? Going to Botanica or Ghenet or elsewhere? And is Botanica expensive?

Yancey (ystrickler), Friday, 15 November 2002 16:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey Geeta and Lisa, keep your cellphones on as I will be frantically ringing 10:30/11-ish to find out where I am going. Paul: Lisa and I will in be in Vivienne Westwood blue label, per usual. School girl chic!

Mary (Mary), Friday, 15 November 2002 16:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be the one who looks like an exhausted crackwhore. Ugh, I feel like shit.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 15 November 2002 17:03 (twenty-three years ago)

OH AND BY THE WAY: I am not partaking in any table-waitress nonsense this time since that stuck about 5 of us with the majority of the bill last time! I refuse, I am on strike, I will walk to the bar and I recommend ya'all do the same! :P

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 15 November 2002 17:03 (twenty-three years ago)

So when are you arriving, Ally? And where?

Yancey (ystrickler), Friday, 15 November 2002 17:06 (twenty-three years ago)

table service is indeed a tool of the devil, not that that should stop ppl getting rounds in or anything (see publog passim)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 15 November 2002 17:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm shooting for 8pm at Botanica. I can't make 7pm because of work and stuff. I don't believe Botanica is expensive, if I recall correctly from last time I was there.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 15 November 2002 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Goodness do I look flushed in that there picture, Carsmile.

Benjamin, Friday, 15 November 2002 17:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim, I could be talked into the 7pm pint. In fact, I just have been. I'll check at Botanica at 7 or shortly after.

Benjamin, Friday, 15 November 2002 17:21 (twenty-three years ago)

If Botanica is cheap I'll be there around 7:30 or 8. Otherwise I'll probably get tanked at Welcome to the Johnson's and then head over.

Oh, and once again, my picture, so someone can recognize me. My hair is about that length now, and I'm wearing all black today (how mysterious!).

Yancey (ystrickler), Friday, 15 November 2002 17:23 (twenty-three years ago)

You look like Wheeler! Damn, that's crazy. I probably said that before.

Um I think people know what I look like. I'm probably going to wear a plaid skirt.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 15 November 2002 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Wheeler?

Yancey (ystrickler), Friday, 15 November 2002 17:48 (twenty-three years ago)

The legendary Otis.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 15 November 2002 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

oh this is gonna be great. i'm going to be at dinner, then i have to split back to queens to pick up joe (he has to drop off his bag filled with weekend stuffs and twin peaks tapes), and then i'll be back. god bless the v train, eh? xoxooxoxxx

maura (maura), Friday, 15 November 2002 18:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Botanica is reasonable by NYC standards, yes.

I don't think there is table service there to worry about, especially not in the back room, which is where a large rowdy party like us should be.

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 15 November 2002 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

See I thought there was a waitress last time I was at Botanica but REGARDLESS I WILL NOT TAKE PART IN SUCH SHENANIGANS.

Otis Wheeler - he's a friend of mine, you look just like him! At least in that one picture, in profile. Never mind.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 15 November 2002 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

OH AND BY THE WAY: I am not partaking in any table-waitress nonsense this time since that stuck about 5 of us with the majority of the bill last time!

This is kind of what I'm worried about with the Ethiopian place -- whenever I'm at a restaurant with a big group, I always end up paying about $20 more than I should b/c of those sneaky motherfuckers who either a) leave early without paying or b) think no one will notice if they only put in $5.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 15 November 2002 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Does this mean JBR will be in the house?

Yancey (ystrickler), Friday, 15 November 2002 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Dunno yet.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 15 November 2002 20:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Crikey! I'm in New York and it's amazing even though so far I've only seen a tiny corner or Brooklyn.

My guts are predictably screaming for ale so I'll see you all at Botanica at 7, and some of you l;ater I guess. I'll have to shoot by 9.45 I think, though who knows.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 15 November 2002 20:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim, it is presently 4:15 Friday afternoon; call me at work if you read this before you leave Brooklyn.

Benjamin, Friday, 15 November 2002 21:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Jody, if you have that problem the family-style serving at an Ethiopian restaurant is not going to make you happy.

I was just dropping back in to mention that the kitfo at Ghenet is particularly good.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 15 November 2002 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Jody, if you have that problem the family-style serving at an Ethiopian restaurant is not going to make you happy.

Ghenet's "family-style" platters are for 2-4 people, though. And that's not a problem if I've got 1-3 other people in my party. I've eaten there a zillion times before, but never with more than a small group.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 15 November 2002 21:28 (twenty-three years ago)

don't worry it'll all work out and if it don't we'll punish the hataz!!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 15 November 2002 21:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Jody, I know what you mean. I've had so many crazy ass experiences, it's like, dude, do you LIKE screwing over your friends or what? The worst is when I agree to come out under the impression that we'd all just pay our own way and order something like a $5 salad then suddenly at the end of the night the tune changes and we're all splitting the $200 bill. Who wants to argue either and cause a scene? So you just end up paying $40 for a $5 salad and a $3.50 beer.

Note I don't think this shall happen tonight but never the less it's a bit annoying.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 15 November 2002 21:50 (twenty-three years ago)

oh it's TOTALLY annoying. yes yes yes. (it has happened to me before)

maura (maura), Friday, 15 November 2002 22:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Who wants to argue either and cause a scene?

That's what's keeping you down, Ally-- saying "nonononono..." and pointing out that you consumed some twenty dollars less in food than your "share" would say isn't causing a scene.

That said, there's something sad about people haggling over a dollar or two of their share of a bill. There ought to be a three dollar margin of error, among employed adults: if your portion comes within three dollars or so of the "average" share, then just pay it. If not, then say something, because someone is trying a slightly more sophisticated variant on the "underpay and walk out" scam favored by students and mentioned by Jody. THEY'RE the ones who fuck up the whole social fabric, with their feigned-casual gesure-- "oh, we'll just all put in fifty dollars" having bought a ten dollar dessert or some shit.

Benjamin, Friday, 15 November 2002 22:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh good lord! We don't want people to get the wrong idea and think that the ILXNYC contingent is a bunch of cheap bastards (though we may indeed be--but let's keep this info private, like)! Let's put this unsavory talk about paying and money behind us, and get to the real deal. Tonight's party! Oh yeah!

Mary (Mary), Friday, 15 November 2002 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I am so ready to get drunk.

Yancey (ystrickler), Friday, 15 November 2002 23:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Hah. Nice one, Carsmile, only of course I don't look anything like that any more. But I'll know Ben, Rosemary, Ally and of course, Tim, right off the bat. Hopefully some of these people will recognize me as well.

Laurel, Friday, 15 November 2002 23:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I MISS NYC. :'(

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 16 November 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

They're all having fun RIGHT NOW without us. I say we should protest.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 November 2002 00:03 (twenty-three years ago)

FAP IM.

(no, that's just depressing.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 16 November 2002 00:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, let us instead look towards the positive. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 November 2002 00:16 (twenty-three years ago)

hopkin stim!! i won't be joining the gang until later so i hope you decide to regroup after the rock; if not i consider it a missed opportunity and i hope to see you on your next fly-by (or mine)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 16 November 2002 00:46 (twenty-three years ago)

We (UK contingent) all feel very protective of Tim! Do check in and tell us you're well! The crosswords back home are lying desolate and undone though you missed much tri-finger action tonight.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 16 November 2002 01:47 (twenty-three years ago)

For the record, I forgot to pay for my delicious banana shake @ that Mexican bar / ristorante place. I owe someone a drink.

And, goddamn, it was nice seeing folks again, and meeting folks that I hadn't seen ever, and GETTING OUT OF CONNECTICUT (if only for a few hours). The greatness of the evening totally made me forget that one of my first sights upon arriving @ Grand Central was some homeless chap in the stairwell leading to the dining concourse pissing in the corner.

But, yeah, it was super fun. Happy birthday Geeta & Byron (again)!!

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 16 November 2002 09:25 (twenty-three years ago)

It's 7:15 am.

I just got home.

RoXoR.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 16 November 2002 12:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Gol dang. Sounds like it was fun indeed. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 November 2002 14:59 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm jealous! I miss NYC. So, how was Genet (note - i don't care how they spell it there is no h in the name, Guenet however is acceptable)and what kept ppl out till 7 or so?

H (Heruy), Saturday, 16 November 2002 15:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I have no idea why we were out til 7am, that's ridiculous when you think about it. And all ya'alls who did not fight the good fight til 7am with me, Jody, Matos and bnw? WUSSBAGS.

I missed the restaurant but the rest of the evening was a lot of fun. That weird Mexican joint that we ended up at for a while was the greatest place of all time.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 16 November 2002 17:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Is it as crazy as the Elvis Mexican place out here?

(Needless to say I'm even MORE JEALOUS THAN BEFORE.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 November 2002 17:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I have no idea what you're talking about - but the answer is yes!

Hahaha, why am I awake right now? I took pictures, they're bound to be HORRIBLE, when I get them developed I'll let everyone see them. Unless they don't come out.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 16 November 2002 17:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Elvis Mexican place -- great Mexican place with an Elvis fetish. Morrissey would live there if it was vegetarian. It's up in Orange or Anaheim, I think.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 November 2002 17:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Morrissey would live there

That's the worst place ever! What are you talking about? We just went to this place cos it looked like it served drinks, which it did. I don't remember who ate food so I don't know if it was good but the jukebox was godlike.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 16 November 2002 17:58 (twenty-three years ago)

That's the worst place ever! What are you talking about?

No, you don't understand! It's not grey council flats, it's VERY colorful. ;-) And it serves drinks and Elvis is everywhere.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 November 2002 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

So when are you writing the Which Morrissey Are You? quiz?

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 16 November 2002 19:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you kidding? I'll let the REAL obsessives do that one. They make me look like somebody only knows the Smiths through that sample on "Hippychick."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 November 2002 19:15 (twenty-three years ago)

So when are you writing the Which Kevin Shields Are You? quiz?

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 16 November 2002 19:30 (twenty-three years ago)

1. The Ketchup Song
2. The Ketchup Song (hippie)
3. The Ketchup Song (karaoke)
4. The Ketchup Song (instrumental)
5. John Waite - I Ain't Missin You
6. John Waite - I Ain't Missin You
6. Eve - Who's That Girl

unfortunately we had to leave before our our songs made it on, so this playlist was dumped on our kind hostesses who really deserved much better

SEVEN AM?!!! good lord! did you go to Brownie's?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 16 November 2002 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

We went somewhere that when I stepped outside myself and some strange gentlemen who were also loitering at 6am got acosted by a homeless man who lectured us about patriotism. It was pretty good. I told you I wasn't going to bed, wussbag. I was trying to convince everyone to go to your house, cos I want to steal your jacket. You and Yancey shoulda stayed, you missed the CHILI and the POTATO PANCAKES.

We should do this more often.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 16 November 2002 19:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Um, that first sentence is really badly constructed. I stepped outside the restaurant, not outside myself in some kind of metaphysical way.

Ahem. Sorry.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 16 November 2002 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

3pm Ally, should be kicking in about now... you are getting veerrry sleeeepy...

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 16 November 2002 20:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Matos voted me least likely to lez it up! What does he know? Nice to meet the new crew, Paul E. and Yancey. Sorry I couldn't make it to the final portion of the evening at the syle lab otherwise known as Ally's apartment...I imagine it to be a very '70s Kubrick space station kind of place?...Happy Birthday Byron!

Tim: how was Clintele? Sorry I missed you, and the rest of the SInister crew!

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 16 November 2002 20:34 (twenty-three years ago)

We never made it to the Style Lab, I think we kind of hazed out. Next time, my friends, next time we shall hold the entire meet up there.

I refuse to succumb to sleep. If I go to sleep NOW I will wake up at midnight and be up all night. Normally fine but tomorrow I MUST GO SEE HARRY POTTER.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 16 November 2002 20:39 (twenty-three years ago)

What Ally isn't saying is that she's going to be camping out for Two Towers tickets. Oh it's true.

So when are you writing the Which Kevin Shields Are You? quiz?

That would be lame, there are only two answers, the Loveless one and the benign Buddha one.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 November 2002 22:38 (twenty-three years ago)

in bed at 7, up at 9:30 with the WORST CRAMP EVER in right calf (all those white Russians?) and back to bed, up at 3:30. ah yeah, baby.

Mary: I didn't actually mean that. I meant you were most likely to be ostentatious about lezzing it up.

that fucking rocked. next time we're all going back to Tracer's for reals, yo.

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 17 November 2002 01:02 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry--LEAST likely. oops again.

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 17 November 2002 01:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it was all the walking, not the White Russians. My feet are killing me today.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 17 November 2002 01:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I love when Matos backtracks!

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 17 November 2002 01:52 (twenty-three years ago)

you mean mistypes

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 17 November 2002 03:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Help! Am being held captive in the land of the free and forced to have fun.

Lovely to meet some of you lot the other day, albeit breifly. Off to Boston now, but will be back in NYC in a couple of days. If I can work it out, I'll install myself in some bar or other one of the nights next week and you all can come and watch me hardcore booze when I'm not freaked by the time zone thing. (Clientele have been fantastic twice so far and I can't wait to see how great they'lll be tonight after they've actually had some sleep)

Tim in NYC, Sunday, 17 November 2002 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh cool, Tim, let us know when you're back...

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 17 November 2002 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, definitely, I didn't really get to chat with you much per se as I showed late and you left early.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 17 November 2002 20:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I owe Christine a cigarette.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 17 November 2002 20:30 (twenty-three years ago)

WUSSBAGS

Yes, from the coziness of my cozy bed's comfort at 4 am, I was deeply, deeply ashamed of skipping out on the fun dawn drunkenness.

Tracer: your note-for-note memory of our Ketchup-soaked playlist makes me fear your incipient bridge skillz.

Felicity: you vanished!

Great fun meeting you all. Too bad Bryan Ferry couldn't make it.

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 18 November 2002 05:23 (twenty-three years ago)

It's 7:15 am.
I just got home.

hey, whats this?! you stayed out till 7am? so what was with the early finish when i was there, eh? :(

gareth (gareth), Monday, 18 November 2002 10:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth, I apologize deeply, and next time you come here I will take my drink nazi powers to the next power and force eveyrone out til as late you deem necessary.

Oh, um, ahahaha, um, funny thing, did anyone, um, notice me taking off the belt of my coat and using it for some reason? Because, um, I put on my coat today and my belt was gone. Which means I removed it myself because the way it's constructed prevents accidental slippage. Only I don't really, um, remember doing anything with my belt. I did it somewhere in the last bar cos I remember belting my coat prior to showing up there. I figure at some point between Paul dancing with rico suave and me kissing all the men, that I lost it.

I wouldn't normally mind but this is the 3rd time I done this in year and the coat habit is getting expensive.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 18 November 2002 14:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Hanging out with Tim at the Middle East = EMBODIMENT OF FUN. I remember why I used to go to shows now! (Tim and The Clientele should be very flattered because I gave up the opportunity to see MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT to hang with them.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 18 November 2002 15:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Hi. I got really drunk and had a good time. XOXOXOXOXO

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 18 November 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh also does anyone have any idea why I have these wide strangulation marks around my neck?

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 18 November 2002 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Yo, I just got my pictures back, there's this phenomenal picture of me and Daddino. He looks scared and I look coked out of my mind. I'm going to make it my screen saver, after I scan these fuckers in.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 18 November 2002 20:02 (twenty-three years ago)

There was a camera?

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 18 November 2002 20:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah. I got one of you covered in lipstick. It's right after cokehead me and swoony Mike.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 18 November 2002 20:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Ok...so...uh, I was going to post these pictures, except like, I hardly got pictures of anyone. And NO GIRLS except me, wtf? Not true, there's one of my forehead and Jody Beth Rosen's forehead. I mean, dude. Where the hell did everyone go when I whipped out the camera? I KNOW there was more than 6 people in attendance.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 02:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally's belt story is interesting because my flourescent orange and pink striped muffler also mysteriously vanished that evening. Perhaps they are with the pen gremlins and the dignity brownies.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 06:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe Winona Ryder was there with us.

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 07:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the convenient Winona Ryder excuse is most suspicious. You know, the whole "he who smelt it dealt it" theory of life. WHERE ARE OUR THINGS, dear sir?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Hello chums! I've arrived safely back in NYC having successfully negotiated a trip to Boston involving cheapo (& ace) Chinese transport plus a potentially harmful meeting with a Bad Mang.

It's Tuesday morning now. Anyone FAP tomorrow evening?

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 15:34 (twenty-three years ago)

i got that bus too Tim!

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 15:42 (twenty-three years ago)

You take the Chinatown bus, Tim?

Yancey (ystrickler), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

"Anyone FAP tomorrow evening?"

Yes, please! What is a convenient location for you?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Tomorrow evening?? What are we doing? Riding the Chinatown bus?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim, no!!! It's Bingo night on Wednesday! I shall have to consult with the rest of O69.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 19:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm rehearsing tomorrow night! But I'll be free after 10.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 20:12 (twenty-three years ago)

After 10! It's a Wednesday night! That's my bedtime! Etc!

I believe I make that protest every single midweek get together with anyone. And the end of the night is still basically the same as, for example, last Friday. I have a bad sense of "how late it is".

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 23:04 (twenty-three years ago)

My cardplaying commitment for Wednesday has dried up, so I could probably be talked into coming out for a drink or ten.

Paul Eater (eater), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 23:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm based on E19th (phear my merkin lingo skeez) and suggested bar = the 11th St Bar, which is (guess) on 11th between Avenues A&B. It's on the South side of the street and they don't have a sign but they do have a Guinness ad in the window.

I have no idea what would be convenient for you lot, or how the transport system here works really, so someone from the NYC FAP committee maybe needs to confirm or make a better suggestion.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 00:18 (twenty-three years ago)

11th St. bar is fine by me...unless anyone has any other suggestions...?

May I propose 7-ish for a possible meeting time?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 03:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I might be able to make it.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 03:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Paul Eater, are you down?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 06:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I will go! But Tim, if you just talk about Sinister stuff again, I will just sit there stupidly quiet again. (This also may happen whatever the topic.)

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 07:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally and Byron, please leave your cell phones on. I will try to make it later.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 07:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay, Byron's in!

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 07:30 (twenty-three years ago)

They're on a binge!

estela, Wednesday, 20 November 2002 08:10 (twenty-three years ago)

If I'm outside of work, my cell phone is on - I will attempt to make it but there might be some problems including being late/leaving early that migh tnot make it worth it.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

My mum is in town and I'm somewhat busy early in the evenings with her. But I could go out for a later (10ish?) pint.

Brooklyn even (DO NOT READ IF YOU'RE ALLY)?

Benjamin, Wednesday, 20 November 2002 15:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't care, I'd go to Brooklyn. I'd rather go to Brooklyn than LES AGAIN.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 15:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh sorry, may I suggest not Brooklyn? As it is a weeknight... Or maybe Brooklyn for the second, 10-ish component of the fap? Ally, think of it as the East Village rather than the Lower East Side...Tim, what time is good for you?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 15:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I was thinking of 7 too, so that's good.

Picked up the new Village Voice last night... turned to the music pages. Clover! Harvell! Matos quoting Baran! Crazy games.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Agree with you Mary, that Brooklyn + weeknight is silly. I'm just stating for the record that I am against LES all the frigging time. I suggest for the next big meet up, we go somewhere that is nowhere near LES, either uptown or outerborough. Hell, the financial district as long as it's not bloody LES again.

It's easier for me to GET to Brooklyn than it is down there, getting to all these meet ups always includes like 2 or 3 subway transfers and a long walk. Going to Brooklyn or Queens, I don't have to transfer, and not as much walking. I don't understand why people think I hate Brooklyn, I'm out there and Queens and Bronx more than Manhattan. It's just that it's not a great place for everyone to be able to make it to.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry Ally.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope the Christmas in Harlem FAP will allay some of Ally's concerns...(If it makes you feel any better, I have been secretly admiring your brio in not only traveling down to the LES every time, but staying till the end everytime, all the while wearing 4-inch high heels!)

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 15:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Why are you sorry? I wasn't complaining seriously, just making a point that ILXNYC needs to see more of the city! Such as Riddlers in the Bronx!

Hahaha Mary, I am sort of a party whore so I make sacrifices. Jody, Matos and I decided that they were actually 1-inch heels in disguise last meet up. Are we going to Harlem for Xmas? That'd be ace.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Heels, schmeels, just let me know where to be at 10 or 10:30.

Benjamin, Wednesday, 20 November 2002 16:53 (twenty-three years ago)

My rehearsal is in Brooklyn Heights and lets out @ 10 -- it would be MARVELOUS if we could meet up somewhere on Montague or Court St.

But I don't honestly expect that to happen.

(But if it does -- the neighborhood's very close to Manhattan and almost every train stops there.)

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 17:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to high school in the E. Vil., so could also do with a respite. I have been told that Brooklyn is a magical wooded land full of wonders.

But tonight, Eleventh Street Bar it is!

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 17:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I will be tending to my roommate. He's at the plastic surgeon as I write this because he sliced the end of his finger off with an industrial meat slicer.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 17:56 (twenty-three years ago)

ARRGH! No way no way! Tell him I give him my best! Oh my god that's so bad. THAT'S WHAT HE GETS FOR GOING TO CHEF SCHOOL. Argh I am getting phantom pains thinking about it.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 17:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be there, at 7ish

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

EEP! Horrible. :-( Yes, best wishes indeed. You are right to tend to him given all that good food of his you've scarfed. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Cool, Rosemary, you're forsaking Bingo? See you all tonight...

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I MIGHT be there. Work may get in the way.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 22:15 (twenty-three years ago)

yo Tracer, send him my best wishes as well. really really sorry to hear that....

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 21 November 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh my giddy gosh.

I can confirm that NYC fappers are hardcore. Lovely to see those of you who were there, sorry to miss those who couldn't make it.

The U&K question: Ally did you make it to work?

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 21 November 2002 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

remember when i said i had to go to brooklyn to pick up a book?

apparently i also had to fall right asleep.

maura (maura), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

so the interview happened, Maura? Or not?

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:03 (twenty-three years ago)

um, it is in the process of being rescheduled.

maura (maura), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

see you should have stayed out with us and encountered the true ruin of bailing from a pizza place when it became obv that they weren't going to sell us after hours booze without pizza being involved.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:12 (twenty-three years ago)

wha? more oh no! food? so how late were the faithful out this time? great to meet you tim! enjoy queens...

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 21 November 2002 17:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally did you make it to work?

Um, no.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 November 2002 17:04 (twenty-three years ago)

It's all becoming clear why we don't normally FAP on a weeknight...

Third time's a charm:

Daddino did you make it work by projected early morning time?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 21 November 2002 17:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh Ally I'm sorry to hear that. Mary: we were out late enough that no-one would serve us beer anymore.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 21 November 2002 17:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not, Tim :)

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 November 2002 17:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Right now the whole of NYC = Spanish Bar as far as I'm concerned.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 21 November 2002 17:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Daddino did you make it work by projected early morning time?

'Deed I did.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 21 November 2002 17:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Brown noser.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 November 2002 18:08 (twenty-three years ago)

No, a self-starter!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 November 2002 18:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I got home at 5:30.

I can't wait to see bnw's pictures!

rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 21 November 2002 19:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Urgh, this morning I was happy not to have an office to drag myself to. 'Twas (too much) fun last nite.

I am scared of bnw's pictures. I think he caught me in mid-pantomime of something, I cannot recall what...

Jen (nstop), Thursday, 21 November 2002 19:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Spanish Bar? Cual es ese?

I fell asleep too as soon as I had the chance, circa midnight. But strangely I didn't make it to work today either. Being my own boss, I shall have to have some harsh words with myself.

Paul Eater (eater), Thursday, 21 November 2002 19:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Amazing.

And for the record; LES = Williamsburg West.

jm, Thursday, 21 November 2002 19:45 (twenty-three years ago)

We're well aware, JM.

bnw's pictures are going to be odd. I vaguely remember standing in front of a smoking car, and vogueing or something.

You've all made me sick! I'm actually not playing hooky from work - I've gotten extrodinarily stuffed up, and SWOLLEN.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 November 2002 20:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I was in Kew Gardens, Queens, otherwise known as the birthplace of Simon & Garfunkel by 8:30 am this morning...yay, me! B-but I was a very, very grouchy teacher...

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 21 November 2002 20:10 (twenty-three years ago)

The problem is, besides the obvious "up til 6:30 thing", that I already had a cold. I shouldn't have come out but like I keep saying I am the party whore.

Hey, where IS bnw?

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 November 2002 20:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I totally forgot about the smoking car! I just remember the drunk guy making out with the poster, the gyro girl, and photos of Tim which we will never ever be showing.

rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 21 November 2002 20:16 (twenty-three years ago)

The Gyro Girl was totally foxy.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 November 2002 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

"Hey, where IS bnw? "

Oh no! Is he on the loose? bnw to thread! [I love saying that...]

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 21 November 2002 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

BNW is a superhero in disguise. He is flying around the city right now rescuing trembling firemen from ravenous kittens.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 November 2002 20:53 (twenty-three years ago)

JBR just woke up. :-)

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 21 November 2002 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Good morning, JBR!

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 21 November 2002 21:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Matos (where were you, dude?) will be amused to know that we ended up in Around the Clock at one point.

We left without ordering anything because we were broke and tired and not that hungry.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 21 November 2002 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

BNW is a superhero in disguise. He is flying around the city right now rescuing trembling firemen from ravenous kittens.

This is really disturbing, Ned.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 November 2002 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

*bows*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 November 2002 21:32 (twenty-three years ago)

So now the three times I have stayed out allll night in Manhattan, Ally has been somewhere in the immediate vicinity. It was decided by Tim that I am the UK equivalent of jel and for some reason only understood in drunken logic, we must now have a throwdown or "Fite!" if you will.

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 21 November 2002 21:44 (twenty-three years ago)

So now the three times I have stayed out allll night in Manhattan

Bah. 4:30 is not "allll night." Amateur.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 21 November 2002 21:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Er make that the US equivalent of jel. But only if jel has as much problem with remembering what country he lives in as apparently I do.

maura.com showed up! We called her a rockist for her controversial ways.

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 21 November 2002 21:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Now back to the kittens, BNW.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 November 2002 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

So now the three times I have stayed out allll night in Manhattan, Ally has been somewhere in the immediate vicinity.

It's always my fault innit. Miss Ally...So Addictive or something like that. Anyway you look nothing like Harry Potter ergo you are not jel.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 November 2002 22:02 (twenty-three years ago)
