FAP Los Angeles/OC?

About damn time, I would think. There's me, Arthur, Chaki, Spencer, Luna Cee and those who I am shamefully forgetting, along with friends and semi-regulars Chris Barrus and Stripey down in my neck of the woods in OC. Let's finally do something if we can!

I idly suggested Thanksgiving weekend in another thread, assuming we're all in town. Perhaps the Saturday? I take it everyone else is up in LA or thereabouts. Let us demonstrate to the NYC group how we too can go out for Ethiopian food but not have to freeze our butts off.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be in the L.A. area around Xmas time... so brew some thoughts for an FAP LA followup, zoitenly.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Or an FAP Bay Area or FAP Portland/Oly before and after Xmas for that matter...

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I'm always around, so I'm in

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:31 (twenty-three years ago)

WILL you, Mr. DB. We'll just have to have a second one, or postpone until then! :-) Mind you, I'm out of town from Dec 23rd to the 28th, when will you be around?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:37 (twenty-three years ago)

heh, uh, probably between Dec 23rd and Xmas... are you going to be around family, ie in the *Bay Area*, during that times perhaps?

(not to dishovel this specific FAP LA thread..)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I would love to hook up with any or all of you.

Stars Of The Lid are playing in Chinatown on Friday and I'll be there. Low and Pan American are in town on Friday (Pomona) and Saturday (Silver Lake) and I'll probably be there Saturday.

dan (dan), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm definitely trying for Stars of the Lid on Friday -- hadn't realized that Low and PA would be playing the following day! HMM...

DB, won't be stopping in the Bay Area this time around, unfortunately. You are however more than welcome to stop by Carmel. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:06 (twenty-three years ago)

You are however more than welcome to stop by Carmel. :-)

Well, how are you getting to and from Carmel? By way of SF airport?

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Not this time. Ater a while of having to go through SF for cheaper rates, I stumbled across a more direct connection through LA at $200 cheaper than what I was expecting. So no SF FAP with me this time, alas! Definitely I'll be up again sometime next year, though -- if not early, then Memorial Day weekend or something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to meet Arthur, and learn more Gilmore Girls spoilers!! I also want to come to LA; maybe I can be all Nedlike and travel crosscountry in search of random ILM meetups, um probably not, seeing as I don't really work, have any money, etc., but it is a thought! Felicity was telling me about some decadent restaurant out there!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 01:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Do it, Mary! And bring Felicity, too! I'm going over the friend's house to watch the Dance Marathon episode on Tuesday, I'll try and come up with some dirt for you.

Not really up on Low or Pan American or Stars of the Lid, Ned and Dan, but I'd be happy to meet up beforehand. Also, I think I might try and make it down to OC for Soft Cell, Ned.

Stereo Total are at the Troubadour this Thurs the 14th and Saint Etienne are at the Palace on Mon. the 18th. Anyone interested in either of those?

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 03:49 (twenty-three years ago)

hey arthur:

yeah i might be up for those.

pb, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 05:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Stereo Total is out for me because of the Legendary Pink Dots show. St. Etienne are playing the Palace, though? HMMMM. Tempting.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 09:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I finally turn on my computer at 2am and finally an LA/FAP! I'll write more tomorrow but basically I'm all over it and my new job starts at 9:30am so I'm down for virtually any night. In fact, this Saturday I'm going to be in an excellent group art exhibit called unDRAWN at the Brewery Project near downtown and all are invited to the opening reception at 7pm - email me for details if you'd like to go - free wine!

Thanksgiving weekend Sat is good for me. Ned, I'll be at my parents in La Costa on Thanksgiving, post-turkey Lou's shopping trip on Friday?

Also Arthur, I will definitely be at St Etienne (as long as it's not sold out yet).

Mary, yes! get out here and bring my AmerAsian peeps wit-cha.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 10:07 (twenty-three years ago)

i shall probably be in LA next year, alhtough that is a touch late for this lez up

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 10:25 (twenty-three years ago)

seeing as I don't really work

b-b-b-but, your rent?!

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 12:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth, I think I remember reading about your planning another trip and mentioning SF. You should make sure it includes Southern California too. Read "City of Quartz" on the way over.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I would love to visit LA and meet you all!

Watch for the Mary and felicity West Coast Tour, coming 2003.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 21:48 (twenty-three years ago)

"b-b-b-but, your rent?!"

I thought we agreed never to talk about again!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 22:02 (twenty-three years ago)

and Ned, I want one of these 'Endless Drift' things.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 04:25 (twenty-three years ago)

So, who was at the Saint Etienne show? I know what Arthur, Ned and Chaki look like but my eyes were drawn to the stage for some reason.

In fact, this is the first of several threads where I drunkenly proclaim my UNDYING LOVE FOR MS. SARAH CRACKNELL.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 08:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I missed it. Aaaargh. Stayed at home, counting pennies and studying for the MSAT test. Didn't make it to Stereo Total, either. I forgot I'd told my old roommate I'd go see him play in one of those neo-Burlesque Velvet Hammer shows at the Mayan that night.

Don't believe a word I say on these FAP threads. Also,
these days I look nothing like that photo in the What Do You All Look Like thread , Spencer.

So St. Etienne was great, huh?

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 16:42 (twenty-three years ago)

these days I look nothing like that photo in the What Do You All Look Like thread

http://www.dee-dee.net/jonny/photos/velvet6.jpg

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 16:49 (twenty-three years ago)

hahahahahahahaha

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 17:02 (twenty-three years ago)

"I am the captain of the gravity, Maxwell"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 21:14 (twenty-three years ago)

St Etienne were v. great. "Hatful of Hollow" encore cover!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

! That sounds pretty dang cool.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 21:23 (twenty-three years ago)

and they made it euro-disco-y to boot!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 21:29 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry - broken brain today. "Hand In Glove" cover in a euro-disco style.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 22:07 (twenty-three years ago)

So, are we going to do this? Ned where are you going to be on Saturday? I will be in Los Angeles that night.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 21:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, let's! Chaki can't make it due to work, but Stripey and Chris Barrus have expressed interest. Arthur, Luna Cee, anyone else? Suggest a spot!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 21:46 (twenty-three years ago)

How about Reno?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 21:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Let me rephrase my previous request.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 22:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Hollywood - Silverlake - Downtown - Westside - Santa Monica

?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 23:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Westside or Hollywood, I'd think...some place where we can meet up late afternoon/early evening. I'm always up for a place for a drink first and then maybe a meal (Ethiopian, say?).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 23:46 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, I'm throwing a couple of destinations out there:

Hollywood: Toi on Sunset
Silverlake: Thai American Express on Rowena
Downtown: Komasa Sushi on 2nd is my fave, but are there objections to sushi?
Westside: (can't remember the name of it, but there's new Indian restaurant that opened up on Westwood Bl. kinda near Rhino Records. I'll get the name on Friday)
Santa Monica: Gate Of India on Santa Monica Bl.

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 00:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I was just at Toi the other week, so for variety I'd suggest somewhere else...but I'll go with the flow!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 00:28 (twenty-three years ago)

DUDE! Merkato (Ethiopian) on Fairfax, between Whitworth and Olympic. Do you not worship Thee Ngera?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 00:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Merkato is great.

There's also Versaille (Cubano) on La Cienega or on Venice (both vaguely near the 10).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 02:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh. Regular haunts keep coming up here (or regular enough given all of LA's choices)! Should we go for a standby or boldly strike out into the unknown?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 03:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey do you really want to decide where and write it on here...as I might crash this 'coz i can't go home for the holiday and i'm stuck in south central (for realz) muahahahaaha

V, Wednesday, 27 November 2002 03:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll go anywhere, but the new Indian restaurant by Rhino sounds interesting. I don't make it over to that part of town often enough.

Arthur (Arthur), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 03:49 (twenty-three years ago)

We'll definitely decide, no worries! Let's keep this thread alive...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 04:16 (twenty-three years ago)

so you um, don't mind if i show up? ----> note: i am certainly aware that this is one of those questions its virtually impossible to say no to without looking like you're very mean and/or exclusionary.

i know a thing or two about indian food as that's what id be eating at home if i went back because my mom is a hindu vegetarian who'd rather rub the metaphorical dot off her head rather than cook turkey (but i wish i knew how to make it), so um, i could tell you how to pronounce the names right if u, like, care. the ethiopian place on fairfax is good but expensive i've heard. note: please don't go to anarkali on melrose or halal's on 4th in koreatown, as that is NOT a good representation of indian food. TRUST ME.

V, Wednesday, 27 November 2002 04:32 (twenty-three years ago)

so you um, don't mind if i show up?

Show up or we'll hunt your lame ass down and beat you up. There. (Recommendations on good food places, Indian or otherwise, always welcome.) There are actually about ten or so different Ethiopian places on Fairfax, which is part of the charm.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 04:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Have any of you been to or even heard of Gaylord - ? No, it's not a place where there are/you eat gays, but it's a very classy Indian restaurant, I believe, but I've never been there. Too classy, I think.

Oh thats;s phrased so wrong, of course there could be gays at Gaylord, I just meant that that's not what the food has to do with. In India one summer I remember there used to be a Gaylord ice cream brand, must be some sort of brand name (British inspired).

V, Wednesday, 27 November 2002 04:56 (twenty-three years ago)

oooh, now that i've seen what db looks like, he sure does looks familiar... i think (?) i may have chatted with him at some point over the years (crossover between la/sf)

not that i'd crash all y'alls' party but instead i'd like to invite any of y'all deepsouth ilx0rz to northern mississippi hill country area (lafayette county) for a little FAP around xmas time...

holly springs? we love it
abbevilla? we love it
toccopola? we love it
ox-ford we love it we love it we love it we love it

why-thai,-thai-o-toy-o-thai-thai
rock-thai,-thai-o-toy-o-thai-thai

gygax!, Wednesday, 27 November 2002 07:55 (twenty-three years ago)

why-thai,-thai-o-toy-o-thai-thai
rock-thai,-thai-o-toy-o-thai-thai

yeah, thai sounds good too.

more thoughts?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 19:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I say we make some sort of Friday deadline to figure something out and then stick to it. Thai never hurts, no question of that!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

unless it's too spicy. More suggestions, please!

I've been thinking about:

Tom Bergin's on Fairfax

for drinks:

Coronet Bar on La Cienega

I don't know - too many and I only moved back a year ago.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 28 November 2002 01:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Revive! Okay, if we're up on this tomorrow, let's get it together. I'll be sending all potential participants a direct e-mail shortly.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 29 November 2002 19:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ethiopian, now there is an idea, if only great Ethiopian bars could be found in TO.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 29 November 2002 21:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Um, so is this happenin' ? Coz I have to ship my computer off to be fixed tonight (like, in 2 hours), and the only way I'll know is if I go check the internet/email at the comp lab on campus tommorrow then...

V or maybe Vee, Saturday, 30 November 2002 01:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned just sent his contact info to your email, so call him tomorrow. I'll definitely be out and abouts with everyone.

Also, how late is Chaki working? Let's go bug him at work.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 30 November 2002 02:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, give me a buzz -- I will be out late morning/early afternoon but should be back by 2 pm or so. I will try and deduce something!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 30 November 2002 02:29 (twenty-three years ago)

also, any and all are invited to stop by this gallery near downtown where I'm showing a piece.

I'll be sitting at the gallery from noon to 5pm, and if you come by around 5, there's a bar/restaurant that's a part of the facility (The Brewery).

Otherwise, I'll be ready to meet anytime/anywhere after 6pm.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 30 November 2002 02:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, I couldn't go deliver my computer since I fell asleep on the couch and Fed Ex is closed by now. :( Oh well I can still waste some time tonight here with all you! :) - before I go to the virgin megastore (have to get this thing for a presentation i'm doing). I haven't tried ethiopian ever (is it spicy?) and haven't had thai in a long time, so i'm excited - will find you all somehow tommorrow!

V or maybe Vee, Saturday, 30 November 2002 04:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Rosalind's on Fairfax is good, too - and Bergin's was my home away from home when I was a few years younger (should I admit that?)

luna (luna.c), Saturday, 30 November 2002 06:37 (twenty-three years ago)

i want to cry! i am working till 11:30pm! if you guys are still out id love to meetup with you peeps and chicken heads! spence how long is your piece showing? if we dont make the rest of the world jealous of our FAP then we have failed.

chaki (chaki), Saturday, 30 November 2002 07:53 (twenty-three years ago)

piece is up till 12/21. it's actually a very good show, I highly recommend the other works as well!

and luna, if I could live at Tom Bergin's, I would

Chaki, I'll be up well past 11:30. where are you ending your shift? valley or what?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 30 November 2002 09:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw hell - the one day of the week I want to go out, things go haywire - hope y'all had fun!

luna.c (luna.c), Sunday, 1 December 2002 07:42 (twenty-three years ago)

wah wah. you are having fun. details details.

chaki (chaki), Sunday, 1 December 2002 07:55 (twenty-three years ago)

No Ned = reschedule. 14th anyone?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 2 December 2002 08:33 (twenty-three years ago)

i was looking at stockholm and cologne and stuff, but, its actually not that much more expensive to go to los angeles and san francisco (i'd planned that for next year, but i'm off work from the 13th right through, so...)

gareth (gareth), Monday, 2 December 2002 13:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you saying you could make it out here for the 14th? Hm! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 December 2002 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i dont know, financially it would be a bit tight. my sister reckons LA is kinda difficult without a car.

is 4 days long enough for LA? a better option might be a long weekend in january. i'm mulling options

gareth (gareth), Monday, 2 December 2002 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, no car = problems, given how much there is to see in the area. Four days? You'll hit a lot, not necessarily everything. There's a long holiday weekend in January that would be great, to be sure! Drop me a line about all this.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 December 2002 15:32 (twenty-three years ago)

If yu don't value your life, step into my car..I could drive people around in January (but all my friends are mortified of my driving because they say silly things like I'm "absent-minded" - puhleeeeeze! I've never been caught for hitting a car yet or even gotten into a pileup!)

btw, i don't know how you can live in the socal area w/o a car, ned. i did for the first 2 and 1/2 years i moved here, then took a semester off and went back east since it's akin to not really living - the public transportation is pretty scary (but the dash is okay). now my SPECIAL EDITION ford taurus w/ a v-EIGHT engine gives me motororgasms everyday and is akin to my second mother as it has given me life!!!!

V or maybe Vee, Monday, 2 December 2002 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

what is the best time of year to see LA. and how long is about right? my sister says theres not that much to see, i mean, stuff to see, but you dont need a great deal of time there?

gareth (gareth), Monday, 2 December 2002 15:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, the advantage of this time of year is that it's not hot and the occasional rains scrub the sky fairly clean. As for stuff to see in general, depends what you want to see! Give us some indications -- museums, scenic overlooks...?

btw, i don't know how you can live in the socal area w/o a car, ned.

Going on fourteen years now...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 December 2002 16:38 (twenty-three years ago)

do you just use your friends or the metro then, if you;re in town?

V or maybe Vee, Monday, 2 December 2002 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Friends, pretty much. When I went to UCLA I used the bus system to get around.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 December 2002 17:19 (twenty-three years ago)

ew, you went to that enemy school. but i won't lie: i'd rather live in westwood than south central!! even if you guys do suck at football now, or wait we're just awesome right? yah, my last year, we're [likely] going to the rose bowl, woo woo, i care so much i've never even been to a single game here. but if i can buy extra tix to this one i will, just to sell them on ebay and make fortunes :P

V or maybe Vee, Monday, 2 December 2002 17:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth--The advantage of the dull, never-changing weather in LA is that there really isn't a best time to visit. I'd only avoid the really hot, smoggy months (late July through September) and perhaps February and March, when there's more of a chance of rain.

Come to think of it, now is a really good time to visit. It's cool in the evenings and about 70 degrees during the day. Very clear, you can see all the mountains and the sea from Mulholland Drive. And should you decide to drive out to the desert and Joshua Tree--you really should!--it's not too hot or cold out there. Then again, if you really want to experience So Cal beach culture, it might be a good idea to come in the summer.

If you don't have a car, I could probably be tour guide for a day.

I might get shit from my neighbors here, but I think 4 days is about right for an LA visit. Plus one day visiting something out of town, like the desert. Or Orange County!

Ask Me About My Bougainvillea! (Arthur), Monday, 2 December 2002 18:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah Gareth, I'd be happy to drive you around for a day on a Sat or Sun. West-SIDE!!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 00:38 (twenty-three years ago)

haha, Arthur, I know from that Boooooougainvillea comedy bit!

Do you also know where the quote "It BUURNS!" is from?

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 05:33 (twenty-three years ago)

doesn't that come from the electric car that Homer test-drove into the lake?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 18:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, Felicity, so is that a Simpsons thing, too? I just thought that would be a funny way to end an LA-related post, I didn't realize I'd picked it up from somewhere. I hate it when I do that.

Arthur (Arthur), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 21:29 (twenty-three years ago)

My place is being overtaken by bougainvillea! = I love it even more.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

two months pass...
will be out with Colin Saunders at the Coronet Bar tonight on La Cienega (about a block and a half north of Beverly). email me if anyone's interested in stopping by. Martinis at my house too!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 22:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:07 (twenty-three years ago)

it's next to the Coronet theater where they show 'puppetry of the penis', 'the star wars trilogy in 30 minutes' etc. not too hip, and the drinks are cheap!

Mary, you will be missed.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:11 (twenty-three years ago)

;)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:12 (twenty-three years ago)

NY: 5 months' notice for a Very Ilx July 4th Down the Shore
LA: what, is there like a Sigalert in Laurel Canyon or something?

Seriously, have fun and have a shot of Glen Higher Than the Sun for me.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 23:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Enjoy this evening, good sir!

a Very Ilx July 4th Down the Shore

Oh yes, yes indeed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 00:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 00:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to try very hard to make that July 4th thing.

Also Felicity, I've never known how to spell "sigalert"!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 00:56 (twenty-three years ago)

:)

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 00:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh my god!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 00:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 01:10 (twenty-three years ago)

uh, it rocked. Chris Barrus rulez. I'm off to pass out now.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 09:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey Specer, Ned, anyone, did Chaki tell you he is performing at some crazy haunted carnival in North Hollywood in late February?? Ask him about it~! I can offer rides

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 09:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Spencer, Colin, and Sara rock like a truckload of pigs (is that the right phrase? can't remember now - too wiped out)

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 10:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Hurrah, the intertwining of the community continues apace!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Huzzah, thanks to Spencer and Chris for pint fancied. Looking forward to the next...

Colin Saunders (csaunders), Thursday, 6 February 2003 03:23 (twenty-three years ago)

July 4th NYC??? Dude, let's go. two words: Yoon Kim.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 6 February 2003 05:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Yoon Kim?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 February 2003 05:54 (twenty-three years ago)

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 6 February 2003 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
an old friend of ours in NYC with an interesting outlook on life.

This makes us sound like La Cosa Notre instead of an online cult.

Anyone going to Coachella? I'm considering . . . Stereo Total will be there.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmm...! ILX campout, could be interesting.

As this has been revived, for all ILXORs: set aside this weekend if possible, definitely set aside Sunday the 30th. More details later.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm actually interested in a festival for once.

you know our favorite vowell deprived band is playing too!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm in for Coachella on Sunday. First megashow in eons that I've been excited about.

Holding aside the 30th for FAP

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Friday, 14 March 2003 02:20 (twenty-three years ago)

There's an outside chance I might be in LA the Coachella weekend (trying to do it sometime after the end of the month). And if so, there's an outside chance I'll go to the show.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 14 March 2003 05:10 (twenty-three years ago)

30th is free

chaki (chaki), Friday, 14 March 2003 11:05 (twenty-three years ago)

three months pass...
J Mascis is playing for FREE at Spaceland tonight. Which ilxors will I see there?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 30 June 2003 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Er, not me. BUT! Chaki has a show on July 12 at Zen Sushi! Ergo, we all attend.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 30 June 2003 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in NYC on the 12th.... I send my regards!

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Spaceland, Chris?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm running on 90 minutes sleep right now and am about to turn into a pumpkin several hours early

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I would go but I think the plane might arrive too late. Everyone else in LA is LOSAH for not going.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 01:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd go, but I'm stuck at work as always because I let the other bitch who works here go early and so am forced to play catch up. If only I'd read this sooner!

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 01:14 (twenty-two years ago)

im at the studio tonight :/

chaki (chaki), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

you guys all missed out. Also, Spaceland on mondays is a straight-up meat market! fun!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

y'all are all probably too young to remember but way back in the day, spaceland was "hetero night" at Dreams of LA on Sunday nights.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm there.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
Is the world ready for ANOTHER LA FAP?! Duh-duuuuuuuuuuh!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 11 September 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm... any occasions? is there anything to do in the oc?

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Thursday, 11 September 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

No occasion necessary!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 11 September 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The Chow utters sense. In OC, breathing becomes an occasion.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 11 September 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I propose drinking at a bar in LA! I know, I'm crazy! or Brass Monkey karaoke!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 11 September 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

If you lot do the Funky Chicken, I'd pay to see that (and shoot the incriminating photos)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 11 September 2003 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

also, I'm of the opinion that any kind of dinner plan should be merely an optional adjunct to the primary goal of FAPping! Let the FAPs commence!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 11 September 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you all need to come down and visit me in my merry realm for once. I however am biased. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 11 September 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I have!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 11 September 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too! However, the easiest FAP is never further than your front door: easy to escape any blood carnage.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 11 September 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

bump

ok, who's in? when?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 11 September 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

whatever i can afford, i'm down. which means like del taco. i was wondering if maybe i should have a halloween party or something to make up for the birthday-party-that-never-materialized since i sstill want to do that experiment of how many people i can fit in my teensy single but its too early to say as of yet .. my costume would be that of a businessman. i would wear a suit. pretty fucking frightening, i know

but this immediate-next time, wherever we are/go we must all have one goal: to get as drunk as chaki did post momus show. i really think we need a nite like that, don't u? we will feel as One for hours afterwards, especially if we throw up together. lets all try to crash the standard downtown thats relatively new - haha like i would get in

oh and if luna doesn't make it again, we must all swear to never talk to her online ever, ever again

Vic, Thursday, 11 September 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm gonna be in LA on the 25th and the 26th but I don't think I'll be able to do anything.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Thursday, 11 September 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Bite me.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 11 September 2003 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

we can talk about that in person, luna

Vic, Thursday, 11 September 2003 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

oh i'll be busy with my own party halloween.
anything going on this weekend?
there must be some good place to eat and drink. oh, but expensive. fondue! chocolate souffle! cobras & matadors!

is there anyplace to dance anymore? i used to like the shortstop (fun music, older crowd)

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Thursday, 11 September 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

is there anyplace to dance anymore?

tigerheat. but i'm joking.

Vic, Thursday, 11 September 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in LA.

Not so sure you deserve my company tho.

Calzer (Calzer), Thursday, 11 September 2003 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

if you pay, i'm easy

Calzer's bitch, Thursday, 11 September 2003 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm gonna be in LA on the 25th and the 26th but I don't think I'll be able to do anything.

Hm...Radiohead FAP anyone? I'll be up there on the night of the 26th with some friends.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 11 September 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

So let's see, that's Vic, Lolita Corpus and Myself and probably Chaki at some point. I think we should have mini-faps like in normal cities; y'know a drink after work at a fun place...

And we should also work out a proper LA FAP soon, with Karaoke!

xpost, I'll skip the show, but after the show people could encamp/decamp to a place near the Bowl (it's at the Bowl, right?)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 12 September 2003 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Yup. I could see what the folks I'll be with think, since it's a Friday night I might be able to persuade them to hang around a bit longer.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 September 2003 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

cool!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 12 September 2003 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know yet if I might be doing anything *after* the show or not. (*cough* aftershow *cough*)

Melissa W (Melissa W), Friday, 12 September 2003 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaaargh -scheduling conflix!! I have those relatives coming from Bostwana the week of Sept 22-27 that want me to show them like the entirety of the western quarter of the united states that week (LA, Vegas, Grand Canyon - in 5 days no less) so I guess I'm out. I really wanted to meet Melissa, and actually like Radiohead too...

...and live 7 minutes from the Bowl, in non-traffic periods

Vic, Friday, 12 September 2003 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

oh! but i don't drink. i don't know these social rituals. but people at my work say cobra lily on wilshire/lacienega or hotel figueroa downtown. or else there's tofu house or korean bbq and then brass monkey.
????

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Friday, 12 September 2003 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I recently went to a party at hotel figueroa, it's really nice. but for some reason the name makes met hink of the eagles and then i feel sicky..

i say one we all invade new hollywood-crowdy joint lucky strike where we can go bowling and dance buzzed at the same time, before we go to a real karaoke place to see spencer *do* adina like brass monkey...

...but actually some friends and i just found this really really cool japanese karaoke place in west la u may have heard of called peppermint studios - where every group gets their own room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no embarassment there, look at this - http://www.digitalcity.com/losangeles/bars/venue.adp?vid=147311 @@@@@@!!!!!

the fake alcoholic drinks there rule, as do the "videos" of the songs they play that all look like disturbing scenes from after-school specials, no matter what song it is!!!!!!!!!!!! we must go there!!!!!!!!!!

Vic, Friday, 12 September 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

im down for nuttever!

chaki (chaki), Friday, 12 September 2003 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait a minute -- following Brian's lead, shouldn't we try for a Mountain Goats FAP? October 1st at Spaceland...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 September 2003 05:40 (twenty-two years ago)

oh dude i'll be back in town then... the momus show was on aug 1st ...every othr month on the 1st we conquer spaceland

Vic (Vic), Friday, 12 September 2003 05:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds better (anyplace I'm not expected to sing).

nickn (nickn), Friday, 12 September 2003 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm totally there at Spaceland on the first. I went to the Sunset Marquee tonight and saw Montell Williams when I was leaving!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 12 September 2003 08:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going to say "this is how we do it" in a Montell mixup!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 12 September 2003 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

u guys aren't saying NO to my peppermint studios idea though, are you?

it's open 'til FOUR AM so we should seriously go

Vic (Vic), Friday, 12 September 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe I'll come out of hiding. I hear the bar at Hotel Figueroa is terrific in an olde tymey SoCal sort of way and has a patio. The Eagles say, "get over it", Vic.

Arthur (Arthur), Friday, 12 September 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been meaning to check that place out too.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 12 September 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

chaki (chaki), Friday, 12 September 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm, might have to rearrange plans, but it IS Chaki!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 12 September 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah the bar and entire lobby area has beautiful California architecture

Shame I can't, Chow! Make sure those pix are well lit, as dissipation isn't fun if you can't see the faces;>

A LACMA rave sounds well worth checking out....plus you'll all be in time for breakfast Bloody Marys.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 19 September 2003 01:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Incredibly long line to get in, but it was a lot of fun. Think I was the only ILX'er there.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 19 September 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard the line was almost 2 hours??

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It took me a hour and a half, but the people i stood next to agreed to hold my place if i made a Pink's run so it wasn't all that bad.

Mmmm.... chili dogs

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Saturday, 20 September 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 25 September 2003 05:23 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
Hello. So...yes, I will be in LA over the 13-16th Feb. Not suggesting some grand FAP or anything but if anyone wants to meet myself and the wifey for drink or food...

Also-Saturday being ummm, Valentine's Day n' all...I was planning on tapping LAX0rs for restaurant recommendations. Somewhere that could only be in LA would be nice (what does this mean? I'm not entirely sure). Could be swanky, could be "quirky". Surely Mr Telecom is a mine of such info?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 22 January 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

If I'm in town that weekend, I would be happy to meet for drinks and take you around town too!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 22 January 2004 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

!!! ;)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 22 January 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

We will be staying where we stayed last summer - in a brilliantly "Hollywood" B&B up near Laurel Canyon run by the ex-Maitre'D of Chasen's. His name is Raymond and he is our friend.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 22 January 2004 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I also have cousins in Burbank I should visit. Ummm, I've been to LA a few times but I'm still not entirely sure where Burbank is. Is it good there?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 22 January 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course! Is there any particular type of cuisine to avoid?

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 22 January 2004 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

It is Sarah's birthday that week so as a gift I am partially funding an insane LA shopping spree that will no doubt end in my ruin.

Elvis- I love Indian, sadly Sarah doesn't. Anything else is good.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 22 January 2004 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh heh, holiday weekend for me too unless I'm wrong, but I'll check. Count me in for whatever goes on.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 January 2004 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's go to Fred Segal for the shopping spree!!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 22 January 2004 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

waaah, i wanna go shopping with spencer and nordic! i'm not gonna be there until the next week!

aleksandr supertramp (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 22 January 2004 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I picture a montage - Ned trying on a succession of blue dresses at various Rodeo Drive boutiques, Spencer and Chris looking on wih fingers resting lightly on chins and occassionally signaling their (dis)approval. All set to a pounding disco beat.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 22 January 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

THIS SOUNDS LIKE GLORY.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 January 2004 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Why picture it? This is what we do LIKEEVERYSINGLEDAY!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 22 January 2004 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

We're just smart enough not to take photos.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 January 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 22 January 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
Beep beep. We are free next Sunday is that is a good day. or maybe Friday? Although we drive in that day so we might be a bit sleeepy.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 7 February 2004 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Right now the whole weekend is looking open on my end -- it's a holiday weekend for me at work (Monday being the extra day), so Sunday can work as well as anything. I might need a place to crash at, though, depending on what's going on! You were going to be where exactly in the area?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 February 2004 02:04 (twenty-two years ago)

We are staying just above Sunset/beneath Laurel Canyon. Is that West Hollywood? I think it is.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 7 February 2004 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

WOOT WOOT

dean! (deangulberry), Saturday, 7 February 2004 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 7 February 2004 02:26 (twenty-two years ago)

fucking gazebos think they're the shit

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 7 February 2004 02:26 (twenty-two years ago)

kill me now for knowing this, but the barney's warehouse sale at the santa monica airport starts thursday 2/5 and runs through monday 2/16

holy shit, I'm gonna be in Santa Monica next week. is this sale thingy any good or what?

don weiner, Saturday, 7 February 2004 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

When in Santa Monica, Don? When Adaml and his s.o. will be down, or...?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 February 2004 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I am flying in on Wednesday afternoon. My wife is there on bizness so I'm flying the kids out to see her. We'll be there until Sunday. Thursday is allegedly reserved for Disney (wife's idea, not mine, to bring an 18 month old and a 3.5 year old to Satan's Playground) but other than that I may be FAPabble. I can assure you at least one trip to the Pier will happen anyhow.

don weiner, Saturday, 7 February 2004 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

So this is Sunday the 15th?

I think I'm gonna be in SF the 14th, 15th and 16th. Figures you'd be coming down then @d@ml! I might end up stuck here, though. Depends on what sort of shape my car's in. And I've got Monday off too.

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 7 February 2004 06:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw man! :-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 February 2004 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

beepo bloop!

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Sunday, 8 February 2004 06:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Does anyone have any suggestions for my Valentine's evening dinner? Don't forget I'm going to be a tourist, and I'm cheesy as hell anyway. Is there anywhere you can get a telephone delivered to the table on a silver platter by a white-gloved waiter? (I'm only half kidding)

I'm playing hooky from work for TWO days for this trip, which adds an extra frisson...

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 9 February 2004 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'm going to be in SF this weekend (special project). Are you going to be around before or beyond the weekend?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 9 February 2004 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

You AND Arthur?

I'm driving in on Friday and out on Monday, so probably not.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 9 February 2004 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

well, my trip isn't set in stone, we'll see. maybe we can meet for dinner on the I5!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 9 February 2004 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Does anyone have any suggestions for my Valentine's evening dinner?

if you haven't made reservations yet you might be fuX0rd!

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Monday, 9 February 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Well have you reserved anywhere, smartass?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 9 February 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, and when we made the reservations, we particularly asked, "will you have a vegetarian option?" This was a month ago mind you when still almost everywhere in SF was already booked. They got back to us LAST WEEK to say "Uh, no." Fuckers! Luckily we got a last minute reservation at cafe talulah but just barely. SF is insane about valentine's dinners. LA is bigger so maybe you'll be better off.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Monday, 9 February 2004 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I just want an old-style telephone brought to my table on a platter.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 9 February 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Who doesn't?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 9 February 2004 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

What, is the city being abandoned this weekend? Hrm. Adaml, shoot me off your phone number or something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 February 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Will do.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 9 February 2004 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

We're happy to come out to "the OC"! Actually that might be pretty cool.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 9 February 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

You're more than welcome to come by, if it comes to that! Good places to eat and hang out etc. around here.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 February 2004 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Be sure to say "Welcome to the OC, bitch!".

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 9 February 2004 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

...to anyone but me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 February 2004 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh dear everything seems to be booked up for the 14th, but I shall prevail.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

What about Musso and Frank's? The food's not so hot, but I can't think of anyplace I'd rather have a phone delivered to my table on a silver platter by a white-gloved waiter.

Now I might not be going up to SF. But if I do, I'll probably be back by Sunday evening. So maybe we can all meet up that night.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Musso and Frank, I think that's an old Bukowski haunt, too!

(/sad fanboy)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay plotting and planning!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I swear that, if I am in town that night, I will bring the phone (seriously).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha! Brilliant!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be at Spaceland tonight from 10-12 or so if anyone's interested. It's free as always on Mondays.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

What time are you playing Chaki?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

fun show, Juliet Lewis' band played. All kinds of hipsters. I wore my "KILL ALL HIPPIES" t-shirt and felt cool.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Juliet Lewis' band played

Juliette Lewis has a band? oh no it's all over now isn't it.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

She's actually a pretty good singer.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, they play a lot in LA. From what I hear they're not bad.

dean! (deangulberry), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

No surprise, there. Anyone has to be better than bloody Keanu, even tuneless.

(xpost)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

In fact, I thought they were surprisingly pretty good.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Keanu does get props for namechecking Peter Hook at every conceivable opportunity.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but Hooky's got actual talent, so that isn't a shockah.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

right... well he didn't have to refer to anybody, and it's nice that he would mention Peter Hook, ok?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think I said anything about whether he was talented or not.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

He isn't (which was my entire point), so it doesn't take much grace to big up such a rock legend.

(Now, let's agree to disagree, already, shall we?)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

ARGH, there's no disagreement. I'm saying that to bring up Peter Hook is not an everyday occurrence on American network TV.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

(grin) Just know I wasn't picking on you, OK?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

So did Juliette sound like Courtney? I find her speaking voice pretty awful-- that smug Valleyish drawl. She's terrible on those VH1 Eighties specials. Maybe I'd like her singing better. Although her band is called the Licks. Ugh. So, does she have the Monday night residency at Spaceland? Maybe I'll go one of these weeks. Or maybe I'll head out to Santa Monica. Chaki vs. Juliette fite oh no! FITE! oh no!

Arthur (Arthur), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, no the residency this month is a band you might enjoy called The Vacation. Juliet Lewsis does have a deep singing voice - do you remember "Born Bad" from 'Natural Born Killers'?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, it's been ten years since I've seen that -- when did she do that part in the movie?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

(Then there was Strange Days, oh dear.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 00:54 (twenty-two years ago)

She sang it in prison. I think it's on the soundtrack. I actually like it very much.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

It is? I'll have to dig that out again, haven't listened to it in years (one of the best things Trent R's ever done, though -- very good choices, especially the Leonard Cohen).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Chaki vs. Juliette fite oh no! FITE! oh no!

shes got Scientology hipster power behind her. im just a regular guy.

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 04:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I heart you anyway, chaki.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 06:19 (twenty-two years ago)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 12 February 2004 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...

Hi dudes. I'm going to be in LA for 2 weeks from next Tuesday - be good to meet up if you fancy it. Caveat being I have to rely on public transport which is not too great so I dunno how mobile I'll be.

I will be going to see Man... Or Astro-Man? in a couple of weeks at the Echo so on the off-chance any Ilxors are going hit me up

a fucking stove just fell on my foot. (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 5 February 2011 01:59 (fifteen years ago)

Hmm, how does next weekend sound, actually? Send me a quick note through FB.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 5 February 2011 02:22 (fifteen years ago)

That could work - we are going to see Kevin Smith (not my idea, I did like Clerks but not really too fussed about anything else) do some show I think on Friday, but I think the rest of the weekend is free - I'll message you over the weekend when I've got a better idea what's going on

a fucking stove just fell on my foot. (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 5 February 2011 02:25 (fifteen years ago)

seven years pass...

I am DJing (as half of Hot Mess) in April at what seems like an extremely cool LGBT party called Ostbanhof. I decided to extend my stay by another weekend because it's only the second time Hot Mess have been booked outside of the UK. I'll be in and around West Hollywood from the 16th of April until the 28th. Who's there and would like to say hello to me? My plan to extend my stay was that I was planning to go to Palm Springs for the second weekend (I'm really into mid-century architecture) so I booked by return flight based on that plan before looking at the cost of hotels etc. in PS and holy shit at the prices! So I may or may not be in PS but I will be in and around LA for 12 days from the 16th. I'd like to see some ILX people, that would be lovely. I'm fairly sure I could get you on the guestlist for a cool LGBT party too, if that's up your street!

Alain the Botton (jed_), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 23:59 (six years ago)

I'll shamelessly bump this thread for the next six weeks, fwiw.

Or if there's a better/more current thread then please let me know.

Alain the Botton (jed_), Thursday, 5 March 2020 00:05 (six years ago)

I have already had Joe (was Joe his ILX name?) as a fb friend for a long time and we have said we hope to meet up without any firm plans thus far.

Please feel free to make suggestions for me, for things to do also.

Alain the Botton (jed_), Thursday, 5 March 2020 00:34 (six years ago)

I don't think he uses ILX any more but I'm sure you all know the Joe I mean.
