alcaraz going for 3 straight o_o

johnny crunch, Sunday, 29 June 2025 20:25 (one month ago)

Just been catching up with the draw, Draper has his work cut out.

Stating the obvious, but always happy to see that the Women's is looking really open once again.

So hard to try to decide who to watch first tomorrow, maybe Ons.

Maresn3st, Sunday, 29 June 2025 20:57 (one month ago)

Poor Ons, relegated to Court 14, and seems to be really struggling, a medic is taking her blood pressure :(

Maresn3st, Monday, 30 June 2025 10:37 (one month ago)

it is too hot for tennis

Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 30 June 2025 10:48 (one month ago)

She retired after the first set

Maresn3st, Monday, 30 June 2025 11:37 (one month ago)

Oh dear..

xyzzzz__, Monday, 30 June 2025 11:49 (one month ago)

But this is how the climate crisis eventually will destroy everything.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 30 June 2025 11:50 (one month ago)

Today and tomorrow looking mad, then the weather breaks, and by Wed we'll be back to periodic bouts of rain.

Maresn3st, Monday, 30 June 2025 11:58 (one month ago)

Sorry for the overreaction. Its just this chipping away at things :-(

xyzzzz__, Monday, 30 June 2025 12:47 (one month ago)

It's okay, I get you and it's def a talking point in the coverage of Norrie's match, shades of 2015, although it looked like poor Ons has something else going on, the game only lasted 40 mins.

Maresn3st, Monday, 30 June 2025 13:14 (one month ago)

Alcatraz and (especially) Fognini really look like they're suffering.

Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 30 June 2025 13:26 (one month ago)

Fognini Alcaraz provably going to a 5th!!

xyzzzz__, Monday, 30 June 2025 16:26 (one month ago)

He's in real trouble now, eek

Maresn3st, Monday, 30 June 2025 16:29 (one month ago)

Some match this for day one

LocalGarda, Monday, 30 June 2025 16:36 (one month ago)

Someone fainted on CC?

Maresn3st, Monday, 30 June 2025 16:52 (one month ago)

Hope Southgate is okay

LocalGarda, Monday, 30 June 2025 17:10 (one month ago)

Wonder how much (if any) we're gonna see of Zverev today

Maresn3st, Monday, 30 June 2025 18:16 (one month ago)

Pretty wild first day; Mpetshi Perricard probably should have finished off Fritz, despite never having a break point, leading 5-1 in the 4th-set t/b, and Zverev barely avoided going down two sets vs Rinderknech. So they all come back tomorrow. Amongst all the Brit success, did not expect Kartal and Boulter to take out seeds, or 461-ranked Fery to sink Popyrin. Golden anniversary of Ashe, the Arthurs are coming good again.

Michael Jones, Monday, 30 June 2025 22:44 (one month ago)

Watson looking good over at 12, it's so much better hearing two former women's players commentating instead of Cotter et al

Maresn3st, Tuesday, 1 July 2025 10:41 (one month ago)

Curse of the recent grass court winners strikes again: Griekspoor (Mallorca champ) thumped yesterday, Pegula (Bad Homburg champ) out today. A decent run to Halle final didn’t do Medvedev much good either and Fritz (Eastbourne champ) should’ve gone last night.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 1 July 2025 11:20 (one month ago)

(Don’t expect Maya Joint, Eastbourne champ, to last a round either but she’s got a higher ranked opponent)

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 1 July 2025 11:21 (one month ago)

Spoke too soon about Watson, good match tho

Maresn3st, Tuesday, 1 July 2025 12:22 (one month ago)

Did look for a while as if we were going to lose the defending women’s champ on day 2 for the second year in a row. Still may happen but Babs K has figured out Eala now it seems.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 1 July 2025 13:50 (one month ago)

Tatjana Maria out, Maya Joint out. Trophies won but nothing here.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 1 July 2025 14:00 (one month ago)

Iplayer menu page with the different running court games prefixes all the UK players with "GB's", ick

Maresn3st, Tuesday, 1 July 2025 15:08 (one month ago)

Bublik gone now, for goodness sake

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 1 July 2025 15:33 (one month ago)

zverev now out.. would fritz have been ousted, that 3rd quarter would be wildly wide open for the taking

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 1 July 2025 17:55 (one month ago)

Djok radiating dgaf

Monfils too, bummer

Maresn3st, Friday, 4 July 2025 12:24 (one month ago)

the match everyone saw coming… solana sierra v laura siegemund 4th round

johnny crunch, Friday, 4 July 2025 14:30 (one month ago)

court looks weirdly empty with no line judges behind the players

mookieproof, Friday, 4 July 2025 19:18 (one month ago)

krejcikova really physically struggling

mookieproof, Saturday, 5 July 2025 16:18 (one month ago)

Rally of this year's tournament just happened there, I reckon

Maresn3st, Saturday, 5 July 2025 17:42 (one month ago)

Djokovic v Kecmanovic? Just come in and they've just replayed it on BBC, it was outstanding.

ailsa, Saturday, 5 July 2025 18:20 (one month ago)

Yea! Was really something, crowd went bananas before it had even played out

Maresn3st, Saturday, 5 July 2025 19:07 (one month ago)

Awesome from Djoko. 4-1 down in the 4th and the play since then has made De Minaur look so ordinary.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 7 July 2025 15:54 (one month ago)

ffs andreeva was born in 2007

mookieproof, Monday, 7 July 2025 17:33 (one month ago)

Dimitrov has taken the first set against Sinner

xyzzzz__, Monday, 7 July 2025 18:36 (one month ago)

Sinner is playing well but Sinner not quite there...we are in for a shock I think

xyzzzz__, Monday, 7 July 2025 18:39 (one month ago)

other than 1 break chance in the first sinner isnt getting a sniff on the dimi service games

johnny crunch, Monday, 7 July 2025 19:07 (one month ago)

i think i jinxed grigor but also not surprising he got a lil tight serving to go up 2-0

johnny crunch, Monday, 7 July 2025 19:15 (one month ago)

still takes it 7-5!
so many sinner errors, idk that i see him getting back in this

johnny crunch, Monday, 7 July 2025 19:25 (one month ago)

Only just tuned in, is Sinner in some sort of physical trouble?

Maresn3st, Monday, 7 July 2025 19:26 (one month ago)

He has some sort of issue with his elbow..

xyzzzz__, Monday, 7 July 2025 19:26 (one month ago)

Tennis elbow maybe.

Blake the Messenger (Tom D.), Monday, 7 July 2025 19:36 (one month ago)

Sinner is looking better already by avoiding an early break

xyzzzz__, Monday, 7 July 2025 19:50 (one month ago)

Uh oh

Maresn3st, Monday, 7 July 2025 19:55 (one month ago)

Never seen that in a tennis court before

xyzzzz__, Monday, 7 July 2025 19:55 (one month ago)

unbelievable bad luck for grigor here

johnny crunch, Monday, 7 July 2025 19:57 (one month ago)

Poor Dimitrov even seem to lift his arm

Maresn3st, Monday, 7 July 2025 19:57 (one month ago)

mookieproof, Monday, 7 July 2025 20:00 (one month ago)

Ah damn, what a way to exit, poor chap

Maresn3st, Monday, 7 July 2025 20:01 (one month ago)

Is that three, four Slams in a row GD’s had to retire? He was ahead in his match at Roland Garros too.

Michael Jones, Monday, 7 July 2025 20:23 (one month ago)

5 now

brony james (k3vin k.), Monday, 7 July 2025 20:28 (one month ago)

We're going to get a new women's champ for the 8th Wimbledon in a row, which is pretty extraordinary. Not sure if that's happened in any other Slam in the Open era.
Trying to imagine an alternate timeline where we get such variety in the men's singles:
2017 - Cilic
2018 - Anderson
2019 - Bautista Agut
2021 - Berrettini
2022 - Kyrgios
2023 - Alcaraz
2024 - Musetti
2025 - Sinner?

For us already to be in a position of having a guaranteed new men's champ (like in the women's) either Carlos or Novak would need to be out OR we change 2023 to Medvedev and wipe out Novak's first three titles. I am ok with either of these options. Ideally a mixture of the two.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 10:16 (one month ago)

Would love for Cam to come through this year.

Maresn3st, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 11:48 (one month ago)

Nah he's top 20 but would be a very ordinary player to win a slam.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 12:02 (one month ago)

No shade on Gaston Gaudio, Thomas Johansson, Richard Krajicek, etc (well maybe a little) but wasn't unheard of before the age of three geniuses winning everything for solid tour pros to sneak through a favourable draw, or have a few lights-out rounds, and win a big one. Would be nice to see. It's the best-of-5 aspect that filters those streaks out; Norrie, Fognini, Coric, Ferrer, Dimitrov, Jack Bloody Sock... all won 1000s, couldn't see them winning Slams. (I'd say Mensik too, but he's got more to come).

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 13:18 (one month ago)

I agree and have seen players bag a slam before the just past era.

I would say Krajicek -- as much as I hate him -- beat Sampras. Didn't feel snicked in.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 13:33 (one month ago)

Siegemund is playing some excellent tennis. Can she see out the 1st set

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 13:34 (one month ago)

She does. Real execution here. Sabalenka doesn't do well when confronted with this kind of creativity.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 13:36 (one month ago)

Saba is having to work v hard to win the 2nd set 6-2. On we go, you'd think she'd see it through now but if Siegemund keeps going like this it will be tight

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 14:31 (one month ago)

Siegemund totally dismantled Saba there with lots of lovely skill, anticipation. Sabalenka just lost rn.

But Siegemund doesn't have a ton of experience. Match has a long way to go.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 14:50 (one month ago)

Great match

LocalGarda, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 15:08 (one month ago)

Exchanged breaks. If Siegemund can hold I feel that's the match. Can't see Saba forcing another service game.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 15:14 (one month ago)

Real David v Goliath feeling to this

LocalGarda, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 15:20 (one month ago)

Not to compare it to the men's Bible

LocalGarda, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 15:20 (one month ago)

Sabalenka screaming when she makes a mistake gives it a videogame boss fight vibe

LocalGarda, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 15:21 (one month ago)

Great break by Saba, fought incredibly hard for it xp - screams of torment

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 15:24 (one month ago)

Two aces at the next. Saba is a flat track bully but that side hadn't quite come through till then.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 15:27 (one month ago)

It's mad how close the lower or unranked can be to glory and how it slips away in an instant. Same with Djoko's win yesterday.

LocalGarda, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 15:32 (one month ago)

That was exhausting to watch. Worthy of a final

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 15:33 (one month ago)

Didn't see it but what an embarrassing scoreline for Norrie.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 17:59 (one month ago)

Yeah, I really wish he'd done better.

Maresn3st, Tuesday, 8 July 2025 18:40 (one month ago)

Never enjoy watching Norrie, he always looks like he's on the verge of fucking it even when he's doing well.

OTOH I loved watching Sonay Kartal, she's a new favourite.

Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Tuesday, 8 July 2025 21:09 (one month ago)

I would say the likes of Raducannu and Kartal will hopefully go to a deep run in the coming years. Draper as well.

If we were relying on Norrie and Boulter this would've been a worse situation than the Henman/Rusedski years.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 9 July 2025 08:33 (one month ago)

Blow for blow Swiatek - Samsonova. The latter matched Swiatek well but Swiatek closes out the match at the first opportunity.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 9 July 2025 13:59 (one month ago)

Sinner has won 1st set but that elbow might not be 100%..

Gotta say this is Djoko's opening. He could beat either Shelton or a not fully fit Sinner, and he has had the better of Alcaraz the last couple of times they met...

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 9 July 2025 16:03 (one month ago)

Sinner looks great again..wins the 2nd set.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 9 July 2025 16:17 (one month ago)

Cobolli wins the 1st set in a tight TB!

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 9 July 2025 16:31 (one month ago)

Cobolli's level has since dropped. Lost the 2nd and already broken in the 3rd.

Sinner through and bar the odd hiccup he was totally on top.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 9 July 2025 17:11 (one month ago)

Trainer on or Cobolli so doesn't look like things are quite there rn..

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 9 July 2025 17:12 (one month ago)

Cobolli had to play sone really great tennis to break back. All level..

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 9 July 2025 17:20 (one month ago)

Backed it up with some v aggressive service and a couple of cool passing shots.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 9 July 2025 17:22 (one month ago)

Love for this one to go all the way. Cobolli is some talent

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 9 July 2025 18:04 (one month ago)

Really got my hopes up with that double mp save and Novak’s fall towards the end. Another set would have been interesting.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 9 July 2025 18:39 (one month ago)

They probably should have a few other courts in the crowd on hot days just in case someone needs water but isn't near one of the players

LocalGarda, Thursday, 10 July 2025 13:18 (one month ago)

This is a scream match

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 10 July 2025 13:57 (one month ago)

Anisimova broke herself there. Bizarre game, little sign of weakness, but maybe its the lack of experience (23, only her 2nd slam SF)

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 10 July 2025 14:03 (one month ago)

Yep and could be absolutely pivotal

LocalGarda, Thursday, 10 July 2025 14:06 (one month ago)

Wondering whether Sabalenka's screaming and antics got to her.

Blake the Messenger (Tom D.), Thursday, 10 July 2025 14:12 (one month ago)

What a shot

LocalGarda, Thursday, 10 July 2025 14:12 (one month ago)

Yeah Saba actually played pretty great. There were no weaknesses to Anisimova till 3-3.

Very little between them.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 10 July 2025 14:22 (one month ago)

sabalenka's face somehow reminds me of . . . andy roddick?

mookieproof, Thursday, 10 July 2025 14:41 (one month ago)

Similar vibe

Saba is pulling some amazing shots but Anisimova keeps coming back and chipping away..

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 10 July 2025 14:43 (one month ago)

(xp) Yes!

This is good stuff

Blake the Messenger (Tom D.), Thursday, 10 July 2025 14:51 (one month ago)

Anisimova's match now, surely.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 10 July 2025 14:52 (one month ago)

Looking that way. No love lost between these two I reckon.

Blake the Messenger (Tom D.), Thursday, 10 July 2025 15:01 (one month ago)

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 10:12 (one month ago)

Taylor Fritz prove me wrong

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 10:13 (one month ago)

This is so lame.

"There’s been help along the way. Fritz credits his girlfriend, influencer Morgan Riddle, for bringing stability to his career and focus to his off-court life. “There’s an obvious correlation between my results and ranking and the time we’ve been together,” he said. “Having someone who cares and just pushes you to do better, to be healthier … almost like kind of just mother me in a way, with like, the diet and going to sleep on time …”

He laughed. “Yeah, that maybe wasn’t the best choice of words.”"

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 10:15 (one month ago)

Agassi talking up Fritz's chances after that 1st set. Not that Fritz is playing bad; Alcaraz was phenomenal.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 13:18 (one month ago)

He cannot get a point off Alcaraz's service, so far.

Fritz's serve needs to be iron solid for a few games, then hope Alcaraz drops off a bit.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 13:23 (one month ago)

Def closer now..still on serve, another person in the crowd ill as Alcaraz is 30-30..

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 13:44 (one month ago)

Just tuned in, was trying to guess who was commentating

Maresn3st, Friday, 11 July 2025 13:46 (one month ago)

Agassi is really good. Actually what I want from a tennis commentator.

Fritz has played slightly better this set in that he has forced a couple of bps. He can still easily lose tho'.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 13:52 (one month ago)

Fritz breaks to win the set, and is as Agassi predicted.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 14:03 (one month ago)

Really enjoying Agassi

LocalGarda, Friday, 11 July 2025 14:06 (one month ago)

Insight and a great sense of mischief

LocalGarda, Friday, 11 July 2025 14:06 (one month ago)

Alcaraz really dropped off, first on Fritz's serve with some dummy returns. Be interesting, Alcaraz usually drops off but regains his unplayability!

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 14:07 (one month ago)

Great to see Nick Clegg in attendance. One of Britain's great characters.

LocalGarda, Friday, 11 July 2025 14:08 (one month ago)

Liked how Agassi called out this celeb at the Royal box rubbish

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 14:12 (one month ago)

Yeah just didn't care

LocalGarda, Friday, 11 July 2025 14:14 (one month ago)

Are some of the seats just empty cos of it being too hot for whoever's seats they are? Or did they close some areas due to heat?

I'm a bit confused as to how people are dropping like flies when this doesn't happen at other sports and they're all sitting down etc.

LocalGarda, Friday, 11 July 2025 14:15 (one month ago)

Awesome by Alcaraz to break Fritz there.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 14:18 (one month ago)

xp yeah its a bit odd. I could maybe understand if it was getting to 40C..

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 14:18 (one month ago)

They had Hugh Grant, totally asleep, in the royal box yesterday on screen for ages, it was brutal.

Maresn3st, Friday, 11 July 2025 14:19 (one month ago)

Henman trying to banter with Agassi feels kind of inappropriate given their relative achievements.

LocalGarda, Friday, 11 July 2025 14:20 (one month ago)

"I am so glad I never had to play Tim, I would've never had the support of the British ppl"

Hate how this crowd are cheering Djoko on

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 17:22 (one month ago)

Get this old cunt out

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 17:44 (one month ago)

Beautiful stuff. Sinner is totally in Djoko's head, even before the injury limited his movement.

His serving in the 2nd set was so so good.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 17:57 (one month ago)

Sinner's heading to his first Wimbledon final. Hopefully Djoko will retire now, but I'm not counting on it

curmudgeon, Friday, 11 July 2025 18:17 (one month ago)

I keep saying there's no way he'll retire until he wins one more, and I still think that, but that match today made that feel like less of a sure thing than it has.

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Friday, 11 July 2025 18:19 (one month ago)

As long as Sinner or Alcaraz stay fit he won't add to his slam tally.

Still ends as the greatest modern player, purely on slams won.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 18:25 (one month ago)

15 years of misery watching this pillock turn matches around really gave me the fear for a while, when Sinner started to misfire. Even before that he wasn't exactly nailing Djoko on those only-adequately-executed S&V ploys. I could see a route back. But no, thankfully. For the first time in eight years I can just enjoy a men's singles final! Didn't see much of the first semi but Fritz was absolutely crushing the ball; not sure he loses that fourth set breaker to anyone else, or the match.

I think it's Swiatek's to lose tomorrow; love those groundstrokes, can watch her all day long.

Michael Jones, Friday, 11 July 2025 18:35 (one month ago)

Its been really beautiful watching Sinner so totally dismantle Djoko in the French and here.

There are days where he can get into Alcaraz -- but Sinner is a problem he won't be able to solve.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 18:39 (one month ago)

Rooting for Swiatek. Just love her, but it will be close.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 18:41 (one month ago)

Trying to work out the politics of years of the crowd hating Djokovic, rightly cos he's a dick, but then when he has a chance of beating someone younger he gets quite a lot of love. In general I always find Wimbledon had this weird (Tory?) deference which means the overdog gets cheered, but was interesting to see that is not there when they're relatively young.

LocalGarda, Friday, 11 July 2025 18:56 (one month ago)

I think the crowd was more on Sinner's side, but also there's a tendency to want to see a real fight. So with Sinner seeming so dominant from the jump, I think there was some positive sentiment whenever Djokovic looked like he could make it a match.

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Friday, 11 July 2025 18:59 (one month ago)

That is probably fair. Irish person in the UK dissecting all major events in a possibly paranoid manner :)

LocalGarda, Friday, 11 July 2025 19:24 (one month ago)

Wanting your money's worth is Tory behaviour tbf

xyzzzz__, Friday, 11 July 2025 19:40 (one month ago)

My guess would be that no one had to wait longer for the crowd’s affection than Navratilova. A popular champ in ‘78 and then never again… I think the ‘92 semi vs Seles might be the next time she really had support and then the whole ‘94 run when Graf lost early.

Michael Jones, Friday, 11 July 2025 20:11 (one month ago)

Fun that Gary Linekar is not allowed to say that refugees are humans and still keep his job, but Martina Navratilova can come out with appalling transphobia and yet she's still on the BBC all the time.

Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 12 July 2025 14:33 (one month ago)

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 12 July 2025 15:42 (one month ago)

Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 12 July 2025 15:48 (one month ago)

This is the game. Get it and just maybe she can loosen up

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 12 July 2025 15:50 (one month ago)

I can't watch any more of this.

Blake the Messenger (Tom D.), Saturday, 12 July 2025 15:52 (one month ago)

Nope and that's surely the match. Could be 6-0, 6-0. She's a machine and never seen her hand a game.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 12 July 2025 15:54 (one month ago)

We are gonna see it

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 12 July 2025 16:03 (one month ago)

On the other hand, Anisamova is walking away with 1.68 million pounds so she will be able to do a lot of condolence shopping

"This is the first time in the open era that the Wimbledon title has been won with a double bagel. The last 6-0, 6-0 result came in 1911, when the sport barely resembled its current modern form, with Dorothea Lambert Chambers’s dominant win over Dora Boothby in the challenge match era, when the defending champion played just once."

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 12 July 2025 16:42 (one month ago)

was working so only just got to watch this. brutal. losing 2 games in a semi final and final and winning 3 sets in a row to love is insane.

oscar bravo, Saturday, 12 July 2025 20:47 (one month ago)

Alcaraz in four but Sinner is the only guy who made Alcaraz feel ordinary on a court so I am just going by Alcaraz's wow factor, and Sinner in a first Wimbledon final.

Shouted involuntarily at how good it was. That forehand was amazing and then topped by the return.

LocalGarda, Sunday, 13 July 2025 16:06 (one month ago)

For the set.

Sinner did just go off the boil on his serve. So that has to improve in the next 15 mins. xps

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 16:06 (one month ago)

man

symsymsym, Sunday, 13 July 2025 16:07 (one month ago)

Great return of serve from Sinner to put that in play and break

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 16:10 (one month ago)

Sinner has something of the look of David "Moyesey" Moyes about him.

Blake the Messenger (Tom D.), Sunday, 13 July 2025 16:14 (one month ago)

Wins his next game from 0-30...Sinner still has his break but much to come.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 16:20 (one month ago)

Alcaraz looking p good to break back soon after that lapse in concentration at the beginning of the set

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 16:32 (one month ago)

lol at “please don’t pop champagne corks on the grass before a player is about to serve”

Ward Fowler, Sunday, 13 July 2025 16:36 (one month ago)

That was incredible.

Sinner to serve for the 2nd..

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 16:48 (one month ago)

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 16:50 (one month ago)

Alba, Sunday, 13 July 2025 16:52 (one month ago)

Two awesome fh winners from Sinner to win that! Fkn hell

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 16:53 (one month ago)

Sinner: volley between legs misses smash, deuce

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 17:21 (one month ago)

Recovered so well: 3-3.

Sinner is serving better. Think all his aces have come this set

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 17:22 (one month ago)

Sinner was all over those 2nd serves.

He will serve for the set

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 17:35 (one month ago)

The serving has been the difference: 2-1 Sinner

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 17:39 (one month ago)

Sinner completely dialled in right now

LocalGarda, Sunday, 13 July 2025 17:48 (one month ago)

Breaks with beautiful backhands

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 17:50 (one month ago)

Not looking good for Alcaraz.

Blake the Messenger (Tom D.), Sunday, 13 July 2025 17:51 (one month ago)

So now...will last month's events play into this..

And Sinner's record against Alcaraz too. Its not a rivalry until Sinner beats him at a big final

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 17:52 (one month ago)

Imperious stuff right now

LocalGarda, Sunday, 13 July 2025 17:52 (one month ago)

Still one break. As long as that is the case this match is far from over.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 17:59 (one month ago)

Would say that was encouraging from Alcaraz. Sinner needed net cord.

Alcaraz does need to make him serve it out tho'

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 18:05 (one month ago)

30-30 and I gotta say that looked long. Sinner looked at the umpire but there you go.

Alcaraz goes onto win the game...far from over.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 13 July 2025 18:09 (one month ago)

15-30

Year Australian Open French Open Wimbledon US Open

2023 Serbia Novak Djokovic (22/24) Serbia Novak Djokovic (23/24) Spain Carlos Alcaraz (2/5) Serbia Novak Djokovic (24/24)
2024 Italy Jannik Sinner (1/4) Spain Carlos Alcaraz (3/5) Spain Carlos Alcaraz (4/5) Italy Jannik Sinner (2/4)
2025 Italy Jannik Sinner (3/4) Spain Carlos Alcaraz (5/5) Italy Jannik Sinner (4/4)

Things change fast. Sinner only won his first major a year and a half ago. Now he and Alcaraz are both one away from career slams.

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 14 July 2025 13:24 (one month ago)

Well this change is about three years overdue. As soon as Fed retired I didn't really want to hear from Nadal and Djoko.

While I like both Sinner and Alcaraz there's a danger of these two totally dominating really long term. Want to see Musetti, Cobolli, Shelton, Draper and a couple of others marching on.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 14 July 2025 14:55 (one month ago)

it doesn't really feel like any of them have the sauce at the moment, unfortunately

gestures broadly at...everything (voodoo chili), Monday, 14 July 2025 14:58 (one month ago)

Whereas women's tennis has been really healthy for many years, with a variety of personalities and winners. Only Swiatek established any sort of dominance over a surface. Lacks a rivalry but I prefer that xp yeah. Djoko beating Alcaraz at the Australian was so depressing.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 14 July 2025 14:59 (one month ago)

xp I'm struggling to see which of that next-gen crop has the game or chutzpah to insert themselves into the Sinner / Alcaraz dominance on any kind of consistent basis, but I agree that I'd rather see at least some kind of s-tier parity beyond just two guys who've already booked their HoF spots. And I think the window has closed fully on the cohort of Tsitsipas, Zverev, Tiafoe, Rublev, Ruud. And oh well, to that.

Hoping Anisimova recovers from that final in a way Zvereva never did (at least not in singles). If so, I think it's far more likely that she makes another run at a major than Kenin, Raducanu, Vondrousova, or (sadly) Andreescu. Or the WTA's chaotic evil (and I love her for it), Ostapenko. Still, I do agree that it seems like the WTA is in the healthier overall spot in terms of its depth.

jon_oh, Monday, 14 July 2025 15:33 (one month ago)

"Kenin, Raducanu, Vondrousova, or (sadly) Andreescu...Ostapenko."

The thing with all those players -- and there is a bigger list -- is that they all bagged one slam.

In the men's the list is tiny. So much waste.
