The two ‘easy’ ones are almost always in the US. Being able to meaningfully distinguish where Boston and Harford, CT are in the same round is something I think relatively few people outside the country are likely to be able to do. Being able to roughly place prefecture-level cities in China with 5-10 million people seems fair game, though.

there was an online game that I was addicted to for a few months around 20 years ago, where you needed to tap on a world map (with borders) and get as close as possible to various global cities and landmarks. can't remember the name of it at all, but you could play unlimited times until you learned where cities were. I think that's where my residual maptap knowledge comes from.

I don't know how you all do so well at this. The distortion of the globe map + lack of borders + lack of detail when zooming in means I am often quite off. Like I cant tell easily where the US/Canada border is or the Russia/rest of EU one.

Or maybe I am just shite at geography I dont know.

Also I'm going to say this: if you're playing on a device without a touchscreen / pinchzoom then it's harder to get a higher score even when you do know the location.

I was going to come back to answer this one. I realised that if I know the city name but don't know where it is, that particular region is the best bet. Agree w/ cherry blossom that Zanzibar's being an island makes it almost impossible to miss once you're aware of it, and it's so small that anywhere you click on it is bound to give you a good score. I struggled with the Ethiopia one because I had no idea where that city might be within the country. The China one, though, was my worst. I deviated from my normal strategy to pick something along the coast, which just seems wise statistically if you're making a complete guess. That turned out to be a very bad idea this time!
