serena returns
fritz/draper rd 1
― johnny crunch, Sunday, 28 June 2026 14:41 (three weeks ago)
So in the tank for the opening Williams match.
― Maresn3st, Sunday, 28 June 2026 17:45 (three weeks ago)
aaaaaand draper has pulled out
― andrew m., Monday, 29 June 2026 14:13 (three weeks ago)
Sinner has lost a set, seems to be having some issues..
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 29 June 2026 14:30 (three weeks ago)
Sinner is really fucking cold rn. Too many UEs. Hopefully he can struggle through.
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 29 June 2026 14:43 (three weeks ago)
"A difficult man to knock off balance" - BBC commentator fatshaming Kecmanovic.
― Maggy Scraggle, Monday, 29 June 2026 14:58 (three weeks ago)
Sinner is going to have to come back from 2-1
He was 3-0 in that TB then skanked a couple..
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 29 June 2026 15:00 (three weeks ago)
Amazing. This is just not looking good..
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 29 June 2026 15:09 (three weeks ago)
Finally Sinner breaks with a little help from Kecmanovic..
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 29 June 2026 15:23 (three weeks ago)
Ok he came through in five sets too lol
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 29 June 2026 16:08 (three weeks ago)
Wu takes a set off Djoko. I'm sure Novak will overcome, but his days of cruising until the quarters or semis are over.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 29 June 2026 19:32 (three weeks ago)
That blazer, wtf
― Maresn3st, Monday, 29 June 2026 21:19 (three weeks ago)
Recommend Paolini-Montgomery rn
― Michael Jones, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 12:07 (three weeks ago)
Yeah, I really enjoy Paolini's style
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 12:19 (three weeks ago)
Thanks, have switched it on
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 12:25 (three weeks ago)
Going back to rewatch that first set
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 12:29 (three weeks ago)
Switched over to see one of our remaining Brits (Wendelken) slugging it out, but the English 'lads' in the crowd are making it hard for me not to root for his French opponent instead.
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 12:40 (three weeks ago)
Swiatek struggling a bit in this second set
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 13:27 (three weeks ago)
Yup, bizarre really
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 13:28 (three weeks ago)
Townsend-Swiatek is warming up. Long time fan of Taylor T, her defeat of Halep at USO a few years back was one of the great net-rushing performances. World class doubles player now.
― Michael Jones, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 13:28 (three weeks ago)
I've only ever seen TT in doubles, but she's really warming up now, as you say!
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 13:30 (three weeks ago)
I love Taylor Townsend to bits and am so happy that she has broken through on the doubles side
― Whatwhawhawhaehawhahwawhawwww (DJP), Tuesday, 30 June 2026 13:32 (three weeks ago)
Loving this, Iga must be pretty rattled now.
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 14:35 (three weeks ago)
...or perhaps not, still that was a lot of fun to watch.
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 14:41 (three weeks ago)
Swiatek gets through, but a lot to tears..
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 14:42 (three weeks ago)
Shelton pushed to a 5th set in his first match. Impressed that Virtanen came back to win the 4th after losing 2nd and 3rd.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 30 June 2026 14:56 (three weeks ago)
Virtanen giving Shelton loads of problems.
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 14:59 (three weeks ago)
8-8 on the 5th set TB
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 15:47 (three weeks ago)
Virtanen does it!! 11-9
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 15:50 (three weeks ago)
Wow! Even came back from 8-5 in the tiebreak. Great playing by Virtanen.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 30 June 2026 15:53 (three weeks ago)
always liked virtanen, disappointing for ben
― johnny crunch, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 16:00 (three weeks ago)
Humbert-Bergs 1st round! That’s a rough draw for both, they were Eastbourne finalists two days ago and both inside top 40.
Be interested to see if Tiafoe avoids the Halle curse later (which is: win that and your name isn’t Federer = r1 loss in SW19).
― Michael Jones, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 16:14 (three weeks ago)
This Wawrinks Berettini match..
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 19:41 (three weeks ago)
Bah Stan :-(
It's been a journey..
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 20:06 (three weeks ago)
crying along with stan over here. wow.
― andrew m., Tuesday, 30 June 2026 21:29 (three weeks ago)
Last time I watched an 18-16 t/b in its entirety at this event, Shia LeBoeuf wasn't even born.
― Michael Jones, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 22:03 (three weeks ago)
Serena's comeback attempt after 4 years away is now over I see. She won a set at least.
beaten 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 by an opponent less than half her age, 20-year-old Maya Joint of Australia, in the opening round of Wimbledon.
― curmudgeon, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 22:32 (three weeks ago)
Watched most of the Serena match. She needs actual match play to get her timing and movement back to a state that would be competitive at a high-level, but her ballstriking was really, really good. She's in better physical shape than she was in her last 2 or 3 years in the tour... If she were to make a serious go of a comeback, this match suggests she could be at least "Hingis' first un-retirement" level competitive and get herself into the second week of a major or two.
― jon_oh, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 22:38 (three weeks ago)
Watched Learner Tien earlier and seemed like he self destructed to me
Won the first set, broke early then played the most pathetic of games to hand the break back to Fucsovics, who when I checked back later won in four
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 July 2026 14:47 (three weeks ago)
Sabalenka got away with having to go to a 3rd set against Kessler.
Sinner better today against Borges who is tricky..looks like he is getting into full match fitness.
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 July 2026 14:49 (three weeks ago)
― Michael Jones, Tuesday, 30 June 2026 bookmarkflaglink
Tiafoe has done it
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 July 2026 15:11 (three weeks ago)
Gauff is in a 3rd set against Sierra, who seems to be up and coming..
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 July 2026 15:20 (three weeks ago)
And Sierra breaks in the middle of that set. Gauff on the brink.
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 July 2026 15:55 (three weeks ago)
Sierra to serve for the match
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 July 2026 16:00 (three weeks ago)
And her inexperience showed. Broken back
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 July 2026 16:04 (three weeks ago)
Gauff wins on the breaker!
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 July 2026 16:23 (three weeks ago)
Krejcikova Andreeva is going to the wire
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 July 2026 18:21 (three weeks ago)
Krejcikova played such beautiful slices to see it through
Andreeva threw her racket in disgust lol
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 July 2026 18:26 (three weeks ago)
Kostyuk Blinkova is brutal rn. Match
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 2 July 2026 15:05 (two weeks ago)
Kostyuk eventually gets through.
Another heavy breather (Anisimova) also through against Kenin on a last set TB
Getting a first look at Fils who has just won a 3rd set against Berrettini
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 2 July 2026 16:19 (two weeks ago)
and berrettini will face grigor! what a pair of matches! now i'm torn on this matchup. both among my favorite players.
― andrew m., Thursday, 2 July 2026 20:11 (two weeks ago)
i am biased toward one-handers.
― andrew m., Thursday, 2 July 2026 20:12 (two weeks ago)
Happy for Dimitrov and sad that either him or Berrettini have to lose
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 2 July 2026 20:19 (two weeks ago)
Fonseca lost to Safiullin (made the QF three years ago but qualifier now), he will prob play Djoko who is a set up
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 3 July 2026 13:42 (two weeks ago)
Tommy Paul gone and Med lost to a 36 yo German
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 3 July 2026 17:21 (two weeks ago)
Just saw a bit of the Djoko match. Could've gone the distance but he used his experience.
Probably a better chance than even the French, with shorter points and all..same half as Sinner, who can ofc be caught on an off day
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 3 July 2026 17:24 (two weeks ago)
Sinner plays Mochizuki next, a 23 yo Japanese player who beat Jodar!!
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 3 July 2026 17:29 (two weeks ago)
Kostyuk in a decider against Navarro, who has a slightly lesser game but is punching above so far
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 11:27 (two weeks ago)
Kostyuk came up with some fireworks in the last set to win it 6-1
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 11:52 (two weeks ago)
Haven't seen it but Rybakina out, beaten by Mertens in straight sets
Been watching Eala, who is a brilliant player from the Philippines, beating Swiatek on a first set TB. She has it all..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 14:05 (two weeks ago)
Eala breaks straight away at the 2nd
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 14:13 (two weeks ago)
Eala is 3-0. Swiatek has nowhere to hide here
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 14:19 (two weeks ago)
4-1 down but Swiatek staging a recovery of sorts. Three BPs
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 14:34 (two weeks ago)
Does it. Match far from over..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 14:35 (two weeks ago)
Swiatek totally collapses to give back that break. Yeah think she's done
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 14:39 (two weeks ago)
Eala takes over 10 mins but she holds her serve and Swiatek is out.
She is so delighted!!
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 14:53 (two weeks ago)
https://www.turkiyetoday.com/sports/zeynep-sonmez-uses-watermelon-symbol-after-wimbledon-bars-palestine-pin-3223107?s=1
Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sonmez said she competed at Wimbledon with a watermelon-shaped vibration dampener on her racket after tournament organizers did not allow her to wear a pin supporting Palestine.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency after her second-round exit, Sonmez said she had previously worn the pin at tournaments but was no longer permitted to do so. She said the issue was discussed with Wimbledon officials, but the organizers did not change their position.
"We had a discussion with the organizers because the Ukrainian flag is allowed but the Palestinian is not," Sonmez said.
Sonmez said she turned to a watermelon-shaped vibration dampener, a small accessory placed on racket strings to reduce vibration, because officials did not object to it.
"They ultimately told us they definitely would not allow it. So, I can't wear the pin. I can use the vibration dampener, and they can't object to that. That's why I put the watermelon symbol on my racket," she said.
The watermelon is widely associated with Palestine because it is grown there and carries the same colors as the Palestinian flag: red, green, white and black. It is regarded as a symbol of resistance against Israeli oppression and occupation.
― omar little, Saturday, 4 July 2026 15:34 (two weeks ago)
Unsurprisingly awful behaviour from Wimbledon
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 16:47 (two weeks ago)
Just saw Noskova beat Cirstea in a very attrional match. She had four MPs in the end before finally converting. Should've won before the TB but the Romanian had that extra experience.
One to watch, a bit rough around the edges but another Czech woman who has the game for this.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 16:50 (two weeks ago)
Cobolli also getting through his draw. Was bagelled by Khachanov but went onto win in 5..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 16:51 (two weeks ago)
Love Madison Keys and from what I could see she played better, more composed tennis in the key moment Vs Anisimova
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 17:21 (two weeks ago)
Footie has been boringosh so keeping an eye on Tiafoe Bublik, one set all.
If Bubilk doesn't destroy himself he should go on. Guy has more weapons.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 18:52 (two weeks ago)
Also has Bublik always played with one sock much shorter than the other?
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 18:55 (two weeks ago)
Dimitrov did really well to see off Berrettini in the 5th after being two sets up.
And Tiafoe has now made it two sets all too. He had nine sps in the 3rd and a med timeout too, but he broke Bublik and on we go..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 21:01 (two weeks ago)
happy for grigor but held my breath when he jumped over the net to hug matteo @ the end
bublik / fritz may have like 80 aces btwn them
― johnny crunch, Saturday, 4 July 2026 22:44 (two weeks ago)
Yeah Bublik got 49 or something. Insane perf.
Really want him to do something solid at a slam instead of annoying me half the time
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 4 July 2026 23:11 (two weeks ago)
Watching Krejcikova Muchova. Surely will go all the way..
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 5 July 2026 13:28 (two weeks ago)
Muchova finally breaks Krejcikova after a 15 min break in the 2nd.
Looks like it will end up in straight sets now. Just a bit more solid.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 5 July 2026 14:18 (two weeks ago)
Krejcikova breaks, taking advantage of the extra pressure on Muchova while serving for the match
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 5 July 2026 14:31 (two weeks ago)
Muchova broken again. Just didn't get over her disappointment.
Krejcikova to serve and take us to a final set
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 5 July 2026 14:40 (two weeks ago)
Brilliant game and krejcikova showed excellent resilience. We have a decider!
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 5 July 2026 14:48 (two weeks ago)
Muchova sees it out. Just more consistent.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 5 July 2026 15:29 (two weeks ago)
Osaka DBL break!!
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 5 July 2026 16:53 (two weeks ago)
Osaka was immense there: 6-2
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 5 July 2026 17:04 (two weeks ago)
Yes Naomi Osaka. Wins in the 2nd set TB but was never troubled on her serve.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 5 July 2026 18:00 (two weeks ago)
Yay! Glad to see Osaka in good form.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 5 July 2026 18:21 (two weeks ago)
Think she's back as a slam prospect.
Think the winner of her QF with Muchova will go all the way tbh
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 5 July 2026 21:31 (two weeks ago)
Good bit of sports writing on Sinner's Japanese opponent. Wish I had watched the match
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2026/jul/05/jannik-sinner-shintaro-mochizuki-wimbledon-quarter-finals
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 6 July 2026 09:48 (two weeks ago)
Paolini beats Eala in an excellent, tight match.
Hope she can make the final. I want her to win the most but I think she'll never get that slam :-(
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 6 July 2026 15:02 (two weeks ago)
Cobolli also through. Italians are in a golden age of tennis
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 6 July 2026 15:06 (two weeks ago)
Noskova beats Keys. No major champs left in the bottom half of the draw.
She's great. Love her and hoping she gets to the final
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 6 July 2026 16:45 (two weeks ago)
Only one of Noskova or Paolini can make it :-( so many great players in the women's game
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 6 July 2026 16:46 (two weeks ago)
Manage to scrape by not talking about Arthur Fery but can do so no longer. Brit qualifier doing genuinely well by getting into a QF.
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 6 July 2026 19:47 (two weeks ago)
grigor looked pretty lackluster today, but fery was very solid. good for him. couldn't help but chuckle when, upon winning, he turned to his box with huge smile and said WHAT THE FUCK.
― andrew m., Monday, 6 July 2026 21:42 (two weeks ago)
Kinda wishing I had watched Keys/Noskova now looking at the BBC highlights, Paolini game was great though. Gauff dovetailing with Osaka today; haven't really watched any men's this year.
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 12:12 (two weeks ago)
Struff -- oldest debut at a slam QF in the open era (36) -- is really good with his serve, groundstrokes and belief.
Sinner is on top at two sets but it's been tight. Struff broke back in the 2nd to force a TB.
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 14:24 (two weeks ago)
And Gauff makes the SFs! Another come back
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 14:28 (two weeks ago)
Sinner does it in straights. Hasn't been in bother since R1.
Only thing that can stop him from reaching the final is surely the weather. 32C midweek and it's hotter in the courts..
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 15:01 (two weeks ago)
On the edge of my seat for Osaka
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 15:59 (two weeks ago)
Nervy start from both. We have four consecutive breaks.
Muchova wins on the TB
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 16:08 (two weeks ago)
Osaka skanked it. Broken and Muchova is to serve for the match
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 16:49 (two weeks ago)
C’mon Naomi ffs
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 16:51 (two weeks ago)
And does it. Plays Gauff next, which will be a different challenge xp
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 16:52 (two weeks ago)
So sad for Osaka, since the middle of the 1st set she felt really off
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 16:53 (two weeks ago)
Muchova had the variety to muffle the weapons coming out from Osaka's racket. Excellent player. Hope she goes all the way xp
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 16:55 (two weeks ago)
Just saw FAA play an amazing passing shot to save BP against novak. Went on to serve it out 6-3, one set all
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 18:51 (two weeks ago)
He’s such a fkn baby
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 19:16 (two weeks ago)
Yessss
― Maresn3st, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 20:44 (two weeks ago)
Even if Djoko goes through I am not sure he's gonna have much left
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 7 July 2026 20:57 (two weeks ago)
Yeah I feel like Sinner would have to have a very off day to lose to Djokovic in his current condition. He was in visible pain for a good part of the match.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 8 July 2026 00:49 (two weeks ago)
Lucky that he has that extra day to rest
― Maresn3st, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 09:03 (two weeks ago)
It's a normal rest day really.
Tomorrow is the hottest day of the week. 32C on Friday.
Assuming both matches on centre and that Sinner Djoko is last you are looking at both coming out at 5/6pm (should the first semi last three to four hours), which should be the worst of the sun.
On the further assumption that it was the weather that screwed Sinner at RG. He hasn't confirmed what actually caused him to collapse against Cerundolo.
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 09:31 (two weeks ago)
Sickening inevitability about that 5th set breaker, just like the last 10min of ARG-EGY.
Shade spreads across the court from 5:30 to 7pm (basically the first set yesterday). I suspect Sinner-Djokovic will be up first as it’s the top half of the draw but who knows.
― Michael Jones, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 10:32 (two weeks ago)
One of the odder stats is that Fritz has beaten Zverev seven times in a row, including three on grass. You wouldn’t think it would be such a terrible match-up for Zverev.
― Michael Jones, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 11:36 (two weeks ago)
(Zverev beat Fritz twice at Wimb (2018, 2021) but lost to him from two sets up in 2024 - the start of the current losing streak)
― Michael Jones, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 11:39 (two weeks ago)
Noskova is so much better than Mertens.
She may beat herself, seeing her going to deuce after winning the first set. She is that bored.
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 13:09 (two weeks ago)
Kostyuk dispatched Paolini in straights.
Noskova should've wrapped this up but Noskova hasn't taken her BPs, though Mertens played a miracle lob to save one.
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 13:48 (two weeks ago)
Noskova finally breaks and serves it out.
Both in their first Wimbledon SF, and it's dealing with the emotions that will surely decide. Kostyuk couldn't deal with the occasion at RG last month.
They are both heavy hitters and don't back off
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 13:59 (two weeks ago)
Well done Fery, fingers crossed
― Maresn3st, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 14:54 (two weeks ago)
Playing great. Just won the 2nd set TB.
Looks like he will get there.
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 15:51 (two weeks ago)
Looks like he will play Zverev, who is also two sets up
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 15:53 (two weeks ago)
Wins this and he’s British number one! (Ranked 36 I think)
― Michael Jones, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 16:10 (two weeks ago)
5-0, Fery is gonna bagel Cobolli
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 16:25 (two weeks ago)
By comparison, his fellow 100-150Brits are playing Challengers in Braunschweig and Newport, RI right now. Those days are over. (For a year).
― Michael Jones, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 16:26 (two weeks ago)
He does it, unbelievable..
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 16:28 (two weeks ago)
Zverev has just won so that's your SF.
You'd think his serving will be too much for Fery but Zverev has his nerves. The crowd could play a part...
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 16:31 (two weeks ago)
Isn't he French, this guy Fery?
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Wednesday, 8 July 2026 17:01 (two weeks ago)
One parent is French I think (dad is loaded) but I think he came through the British system (whatever that means when you play in academies around the world, or the American uni system)
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 17:07 (two weeks ago)
Ok wiki says he was in France but moved to Eng when he was a month old lol
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 17:08 (two weeks ago)
*born
Private school guy. Fan of Chelsea FC.
I still take him over Zverev
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 17:10 (two weeks ago)
Both his parents are French, his father owned a football club but sold it this year!
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Wednesday, 8 July 2026 17:13 (two weeks ago)
He'll be French soon enough lol
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 8 July 2026 17:24 (two weeks ago)
Michael Olise winning the WC and Arthur Fery winning Wimbledon would be a fair trade. (Only half of this will happen).
― Michael Jones, Thursday, 9 July 2026 09:46 (one week ago)
Nah go Morocco
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 11:11 (one week ago)
Got ourselves a great pair of SFs. Like to see Muchova winning a slam but they are both hard to call.
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 11:13 (one week ago)
Love Gauff, but all of our semifinalists are younger I think.
Muchova has had injuries, so really loved seeing her game this yr
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 12:37 (one week ago)
6-2 Muchova. It's closer than that scoreline suggests but Gauff didn't take her BPs. Some of that is due to Karolina's lovely play, some due to Gauff skanking it
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 13:18 (one week ago)
Gauff has a ton of mental strength and would be surprised if she didn't turn this around to at least a decider.
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 13:24 (one week ago)
Taken to another BP. Saves it. On serve.
Muchova is not doing enough on her first serve so as long as Gauff stays positive..
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 13:32 (one week ago)
Finally breaks at her 9th BP attempt.
Now it's Muchova who needs to do raise her level
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 13:39 (one week ago)
Gauff 5-1.
Hopefully it will be close but reckon Gauff will have the weapons and all around court game to see her off.
Gauff's volleying has been a joy to watch
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 13:51 (one week ago)
Muchova landing more 1st serves would be good...40% across sets isn't gonna cut it
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 13:54 (one week ago)
Muchova with a few more 1st serves.
3-3, on serve
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 14:25 (one week ago)
Gauff with some beautiful volleys.
4-4. That could put a lot of pressure on Muchova's serve
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 14:32 (one week ago)
0-30, 5-5. Surely Gauff will see it off now
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 14:46 (one week ago)
Muchova played out of her mind. What rallies.
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 14:50 (one week ago)
Muchova seems to be physically struggling a bit..we go to a final set TB
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 14:54 (one week ago)
This is unbelievable what points from these two
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 15:03 (one week ago)
6-6..
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 15:04 (one week ago)
Omg!!
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 15:09 (one week ago)
Unmissable from Gauff for the match..
Muchova 12-10 what a classic
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 15:13 (one week ago)
Just cannot describe..Gauff df, the skank on MP, Muchova slip on her MP, and so many incredible rallies, the nerves tension emotion!!
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 15:15 (one week ago)
fantastic tiebreak
― symsymsym, Thursday, 9 July 2026 15:19 (one week ago)
Yup. Have not recovered. Only half watched Noskova win the first set.
Both are heavy hitters with Noskova having a bit more variety I think.
Close to an all Czech final. Which is an incredible achievement
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 16:34 (one week ago)
Noskova breaks. This should be over in 10 mins..
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 16:47 (one week ago)
Nope. Kostyuk finally shows something to break back. Noskova made a couple of errors.
But she will need to string it together..
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 16:53 (one week ago)
Nope. Breaks her for the win.
Noskova for an all Czech final.
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 9 July 2026 17:10 (one week ago)
Djoko Sinner is 2nd.
Assuming Zverev beats the Frenchman in straight sets (as I think he will) we are on for about 3:30 in 30C, lowest temps for the last few days.
Beside the weather this has to be Djoko's best and last chance of that GS title. Sinner hasn't faced a seed and while he is serving great I am not sure how good his overall game is. He probably needed to face a tough seed to sharpen up the FH. His serve is awesome but Djoko is one of the greatest of returners so it won't be a massive issue once he zones in. Only question is whether Djoko is physically ok after that marathon against FAA..
Should he get through Sinner he has to be favourite against Zverev, who ofc totally lucked out at the French and I am not convinced by at all.
Probably won't watch that final tbh, it's too awful to contemplate.
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 10 July 2026 10:13 (one week ago)
Just switching on and yeah, Zverev barely broke sweat.
Real indictment of the men's game to have Fery making the SF...quite interesting he beat Cobolli...
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 10 July 2026 14:54 (one week ago)
Sinner has been a pleasure to watch. What can you say. Two sets up.
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 10 July 2026 16:52 (one week ago)
Awesome. Novak had no chance whatsoever. Really love these Sinner pummelings
― xyzzzz__, Friday, 10 July 2026 17:43 (one week ago)
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2026/jul/10/no-more-fery-tales-fantastical-fever-dream-is-over-and-now-the-hard-work-starts
But of course, insofar as British tennis has a system, this is basically it: a mixture of privilege and connections, generational wealth and happy accidents of birth. And this is not to malign the ones who made it, but to mourn those who never did: the players without the means to invest indefinitely in their career, without the effortless early exposure that comes when your parents are a part of the tennis establishment.People have been talking all fortnight about Fery’s assurance and self-confidence. Perhaps on some level it comes from the way you were raised: a distinct absence of impostor syndrome, a belief in the inherent righteousness of the universe. Perhaps the reason Fery acts like he belongs is because he grew up in a world where he truly did belong in every room he entered

Yup, feels a lot like British life in most sports and music/arts.
It's interesting how the wildcard system works because you 'earn' a year's salary for being chosen to play and lose in the 1st round.
Real rarity for one of the lucky recipients to go on like this.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 05:15 (one week ago)
Yeah, it's not life-changing if you come from that kind of money. Career-changing, for a little bit, yes.I assume there's a decent number of talented low-to-middle-income-family kids in the LTA junior grant programme and likely 95% of them just can't travel/play independently once they're too old for that.Hard to call Fery a "British success story" (or Norrie) if you're looking for any kind of structural involvement in his development from UK-based orgs. It's family wealth + American collegiate system.
Career-wise maybe he's this year's Vladimir Voltchkov. Or Jason Stoltenberg, if he's lucky. Aslan Karatsev at a pinch. The comeback wins over Bergs and Dimitrov were great, mind. And Cobolli didn't do his homework.
― Michael Jones, Saturday, 11 July 2026 09:15 (one week ago)
And yay for Sinner. He really has improved round by round, which hopefully means a real kicking in the final.Very few free points for Novak yesterday, consistently missing that T-serve by millimetres. If only he'd been that miscalibrated vs FAA.
― Michael Jones, Saturday, 11 July 2026 09:24 (one week ago)
Muchova has the experience and will be able to handle Noskova's more booming game. I hope she wins a classic...she was clutching her ribs a bit at the end against Gauff, and I hope either fitness or the nerves don't play a part for either of them for too long (we all remember how awful last yr was)
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 14:59 (one week ago)
And Noskova is brutal out there: 6-2.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 15:41 (one week ago)
Muchova isn't doing enough with Noskova's 2nd serve.
This final could be over soon.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 15:47 (one week ago)
Muchova got out of 0-30 on her game and then went on to have bps on Noskova...if Muchova can keep that up we have a match. On serve
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 15:59 (one week ago)
Two more bps nosko
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:08 (one week ago)
Does it. Nearly over..
CP.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:17 (one week ago)
One more..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:18 (one week ago)
And a 3rd CP...surely now
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:21 (one week ago)
Muchova hung on...prob too little too late
Noskova to serve for the match
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:25 (one week ago)
30-30..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:26 (one week ago)
Deuce..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:28 (one week ago)
Face a BP, now a 4th cp
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:30 (one week ago)
Df..
Then ace, bp, ace
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:32 (one week ago)
BP, ace..deuce.. extraordinary
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:33 (one week ago)
BP, near ace.. madness
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:34 (one week ago)
Df, and finally breaks omg!!
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:35 (one week ago)
At last!
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:36 (one week ago)
Noskova has put her finger to her ears, she never ever reacts to anything..oh dear
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:36 (one week ago)
One of the most incredible games I have ever seen
Nosko has hit two return winners 30 all
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:39 (one week ago)
One more CP..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:40 (one week ago)
Saves it, wow
5-5, unbelievable..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:43 (one week ago)
Won 4 in a row there.
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:48 (one week ago)
Noskova broken again through UEs. Muchova will serve for the decider.
Nosko is covering herself with the towel...the machine is broken
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:48 (one week ago)
Two SPs..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:51 (one week ago)
We've got a decider.
Lord have mercy on us all
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:52 (one week ago)
Noskova is struggling now
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:52 (one week ago)
The lack of experience is really, really showing in a way I never quite expected.
Until that service game I thought she was made of iron
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 16:54 (one week ago)
Noskova faces 3 bps but held on...let's see if that sets things right for her
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:03 (one week ago)
Great comeback by Noskova.
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:08 (one week ago)
Noskova breaks...but surely a way to go yet xp yeah amazing really
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:08 (one week ago)
Noskova held on after facing a BP.
3-0..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:14 (one week ago)
Noskova looking very good again.
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:22 (one week ago)
Yup, 5-2.
Muchova to make Noskova serve for it again..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:30 (one week ago)
So, again, Noskova to serve for the title
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:33 (one week ago)
30-15, Noskova did incredible there. Looks like she will do it
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:35 (one week ago)
2 CPs
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:36 (one week ago)
Won it.
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:36 (one week ago)
She's done it. That's a lot of heart and mind.
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:37 (one week ago)
Feared the worst at one point but turned out to be a proper final
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:37 (one week ago)
Third Czech woman to win Wimbledon in four years.
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:38 (one week ago)
That's like inverse Novotna really.
Hope Muchova can win a major but this is the brutality of sport. Might be her last chance xp
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:40 (one week ago)
― Michael Jones, Saturday, 11 July 2026 bookmarkflaglink
Noskova's dad worked in the railways, is what I heard..
― xyzzzz__, Saturday, 11 July 2026 17:53 (one week ago)
She's from a little village, middle of nowhere really.
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Saturday, 11 July 2026 18:00 (one week ago)
Zverev is playing well. Was 0-30 in a game, but Sinner put in the serves.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 15:40 (one week ago)
*mean Zverev put some pressure on a Sinner game.
Zverev faced a BP but served really well after Sinner skanked it. 4-4
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 15:48 (one week ago)
6-6, 6-6 tb..
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 16:13 (one week ago)
Zverev did it, 9-7...the first break in serve on that TB. That was something
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 16:16 (one week ago)
Sinner not on his game.
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Sunday, 12 July 2026 17:03 (one week ago)
I think Zverev's serving and FH (as oposed to his good BH) has been very, very good.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 17:07 (one week ago)
With only one break of serve in a TB separating them.
Now another TB..
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 17:12 (one week ago)
Sinner nearly made that lob for 5-0.
It's 4-1
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 17:16 (one week ago)
Yeah that was brilliantly played from Sinner. Really got hold of those Zverev first serves..one set all
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 17:19 (one week ago)
Sinner was 0-30 and should've broken.
Still, this final is finally going in the right direction
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 17:34 (one week ago)
Amazing, Zverev had a BP on the Sinner serve and slipped in that rally. Commentary think he hyper extended his knee and he was moving with slight restrictions...
Anyway Sinner gets out of his serve and breaks Zverev the next. Now serving for the 3rd set.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 18:06 (one week ago)
Sinner is close now..
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 18:07 (one week ago)
Zverev v much moving fine again. On serve.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 18:32 (one week ago)
2 bps Sinner, really earning it here
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 18:40 (one week ago)
Saved them 😡
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 18:41 (one week ago)
One more BP and does it, FH dtl
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 18:42 (one week ago)
Serving for it
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 18:52 (one week ago)
15-30 Zverev and he is working the crowd..
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 18:54 (one week ago)
What a rally Sinner, tremendous play the net for CP!!
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 18:56 (one week ago)
Might have been going out but Zverev didn't leave it
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 18:57 (one week ago)
And then does it with a crushed FH!
Good final.
― stanes on the knees and blood on the jumber (Tom D.), Sunday, 12 July 2026 18:59 (one week ago)
This is the bit I dread, I wish it could go on for another fortnight.
― Maresn3st, Sunday, 12 July 2026 19:10 (one week ago)
The French Open win has unlocked an extra step. He will probably be more dangerous for the next couple of years and may bag one more..
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 19:25 (one week ago)
As for Sinner yay. Really like him and he is so good and reliable against the bad guys.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 19:26 (one week ago)
Yeah his consistency is really something. Zverev is in top form, very little room for error. Good job Sinner!
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 12 July 2026 19:28 (one week ago)
Love Sinner's movement (all that sliding is insane lol) and the variety he has added to his weight of shot. Probably can improve all round by another 5%. Served monstrously too.
The world waits for Alcaraz. Hope he can come back to his best so we can see these two in a final again xp
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 12 July 2026 19:31 (one week ago)
Two really good finals. Men’s didn’t quite have the tension and jeopardy of the women’s but I’ve never seen AZ better. Sinner really has those skiers’ ankles, eh? I don’t know how he can walk after some of those slides and falls.
Odd that AELTC have basically committed themselves to playing any 5th set of a men’s final indoors with this time shift. Unless the first four sets are super quick.
One minor note on Saturday’s match: Noskova really got away with all those abortive ball tosses. Not sure if this is a feature of her play. Her (ex-)pal down the other end didn’t complain but it’s a real sidestep of the shot clock.
― Michael Jones, Monday, 13 July 2026 09:42 (one week ago)
i dont play enough tennis to know, but would making it a fault to abandon a ball toss be too severe a punishment?also my memory may be playing tricks but wimbledon used to fit the tournament into 2 weeks back in the 80s and 90s with no roof and no final set tie breaks but now seem to have a centre court match under the roof beyond 9pm most days. i dont get it, are the matches really so much longer now?
― oscar bravo, Monday, 13 July 2026 21:07 (one week ago)
Apparently, yes (25% longer since 1999), but still doesn't quite explain it. There was no play on middle Sunday either, and men's doubles was best-of-five every round - plus start of play on Centre + No. 1 used to be 2pm.
The abandoned toss thing - maybe you can have five before a warning? Give the umps a bit more to do now that they never need to overrule a line call.
― Michael Jones, Monday, 13 July 2026 21:52 (one week ago)
I suppose one explanation could be: they will now start the third match of the day on a show court, regardless of how late they're running, because they have the roof.In the old days, if it got to 7:30pm or so with match #2 still going, match #3 would be shifted to another court or pulled for the day.Feel like there was more WS-MS-WS scheduling too, rather than MS-WS-MS.
