Woman or man? was a thought upon finding this elegant cover... and inside it's got a hearty 'Ashkenazi' style soundbite or two in the book, like 'the child is the meaning of this life' or 'the world is a wedding' - a pleasing discrepancy.

Not sure, but sometimes, with me, Reader will show nothing from a site for weeks, and then suddenly dump a whole backlog of their stuff in at once. Very mysterious.

This thread has lead me to discover that Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson is mostly known with this fairly disagreeable (to me) golden cover painting - the one I know and love is a beautiful painting with much better impression of the Terabithian trees, and it has one of the kids wearing a numbered sports top: can anyone find an image of this on the net??? I have a couple of actual copies so I guess I'll be able to scan it one day.

the latest trend in YA book covers seems to be [stock photo of a generic teenager with no compelling design elements]. one of the worst offenders is that Bridge to Terabithia cover with the photo of a boy jumping against a sky blue backdrop — it looks like it should be an illustration in a middle school health textbook.
illustrators seem to have a tough time with Diana Wynne Jones's novels; her convoluted plots are hard to distil into single representative image, and it's interesting to compare different editions:
http://i.imgur.com/lHq8HPq.jpg(first UK edition, 1993)
http://i.imgur.com/W2QSqdQ.jpg(first US edition, 1994)
http://i.imgur.com/UCb19nQ.jpg(UK reprint, 2009?)
first UK edition is tasteful and mysterious, first US edition is an abomination, 2000s edition is ok but a little too heavy on the Tim Burtonish whimsy (and the forward is probably by Neil Gaiman, so)
