Whose going to the protest tomorrow, then?

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Not me. I'll be there in (Indian) spirit (guide) though.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Fancy a comp. swapping pint at some stage?

Lara (Lara), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends on whether the delivery man comes and brings my new bed at noon or at 4 in the afternoon.

tigerclawskank, Friday, 14 February 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you people no social conscience?

Carolgees (Carolgees), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have the comp yet!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd definitely fancy a pint some time, Lara. I am fascinated by these mysterious Dublin ILXORs whom I have never met. my suspicion is that you are all actually people I know posting under pseudonyms.

what's this comp, by the way? I thought we were just going to swap our own comps.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 14 February 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

hi I've never been to ireland is it nice?

RJG (RJG), Friday, 14 February 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, very nice. come along soon. bring friends. big chubby friends. and lots of money. don't tell anyone where you are going.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 14 February 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

And some of that lovely Scottish fudge.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 14 February 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd be up for a pint some time, although i won't be at the protest...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 14 February 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

if I ever visit, I will bring fudge.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 14 February 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

You can stay with me as long as you bring fudge.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 14 February 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

that's not very long but thank you for the kind offer!

RJG (RJG), Friday, 14 February 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

sum1 i kno will b at da protest. say hi (heh).

naked as sin (naked as sin), Friday, 14 February 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I marched in the end as I was afraid that I would feel guilty later if I didn't. And the alternative i.e. sitting on the couch watching all the stuff I'd taped during the week seemed a bit lily-livered. I didn't quite feel part of the whole thing and I'm not sure whether my silent presence sans placard made any difference but I did something rather than nothing so that's got to be a good thing. I was touched by the community of the whole thing even though I didn't feel a part of it. And I was moved to tears several times.

Best slogan I saw (which lifted me out of my contemplative loneliness): 'Make tea not war.' The Irish seem to have a way of bringing everything home.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 16 February 2003 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

That was certainly not an 'indigeneous Irish' slogan. I thought it was meant to be a 'typical English' slogan. Now all bets are off.

Make poteen not war.

the pinefox, Sunday, 16 February 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you Lara-baiting again this evening?

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 16 February 2003 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

So does anyone want to come out mid-week? Doesn't have to be ILX-specific, although it might be safer that way.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i wouldn't mind popping out midweek. especially as i've never met any ILXers

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm nice.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

good for you! I'm mean!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

So... Wednesday?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Wednesday this week! yes, I can make that! excitement.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

wednesday suits me, but what venue?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

How about the Long Hall? It's cheap and quaint and accepting of both freaks and geeks (not that I'm suggesting...).

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

never been there, or even heard of it. where abouts is it?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

On George's Street across the road from Hogans. Just up from Yamamori.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, I've just read the DV's comments about smoking in pubs on the pub thread. Perhaps we'd better meet in a field?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll put up with smokey pubs for ILXOR. don't mind me.

the Long Hall is a nice pub, but isn't it always full?

how will we know each other? I don't fancy going up to strangers saying "So, do you FAP?".

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

That's how we do it in London

chris (chris), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Just ask me if I'm the 98FM fugitive and if I slap you about the face and neck, you'll know it's me.

We could meet early - I work in town - so there wouldn't be trouble nabbing a table.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll be the one snarling at strangers and spitting on them.

alternatively, we could organise a very specific meeting time and place.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be wearing a single handwoven silk glove, and a maroon sarong

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be wearing a black hoodie with a red square on the front, unless I spill something else on it.

Hey, DV, show 'em the picture of you from one of these threads!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll REALLY be wearing a black duffel coat and flared cords. i may have my small, colourfully dressed g/f with me. would anyone like to suggest a specific time and place. I'm easy...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Long Hall straight after work on Wednesday sounds good. I can be there by around 6.00.

I will be in a suit, and I am an oldarse, so I should be easy to spot. Andrew & Ronan have met me, so should remember what I look like.

here is a picture of me (on the right) with my special friend: http://www.buro9.com/manchesterPhotos/bowlie_51.jpg

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 February 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

shall we say 6 at long hall, then? i'll be there with bells and whistles on...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 17 February 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I can be there at six. I'll also be wearing a suit and you will probably see my spot (strange facial disfigurement developed overnight) before you see me. Grrrr.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be wearing a long black coat and an orangey red scarf over my suit. And carrying a DJ bag.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 February 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh cool I'll go to this, if you want Kilian I can try and get there on time since I know what other ILXers look like (green hair, horns etc)

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 February 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder what ILXOR person has met the most other ILXOR people.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 February 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth maybe

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 February 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

can i come too? i might be a bit late. scarily, i will be dressed exactly like kilian.

rener (rener), Monday, 17 February 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm,i was going to stay in for the champions league, but i might drop in,if that's ok with everyone-i've never met any ilxers either,i'd be curious to see what you're all like...

robin (robin), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

The Long Hall is a nice pub so if you come along and don't like the look of us, you could always hang out with the journos in the window seat or make a swift departure as part of the Dublin Literary Tour.

I'm really looking forward to meeting you all.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

To get back on the protest thing, 'cos the delivery of the bed occoured 3 hours early, the "Make tea Not War" thing started in the UK as far as I#'m concerned. I received a jpg of the slogan with Tony Blair wearing a tea cup as a helmet and carrying an AK47. For an Irish slogan there was a Father Ted style placard saying "Down With This Sort of Thing" with a photo of a B52 dropping bombs.

As for wednesday thats far too far away for me to consider.

tigerclawskank, Monday, 17 February 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It'd be great to see you Robin, if you can manage to make it.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Robin - is there a link to a picture of you anywhere, so we'll stand some chance of recognising you?

I'm assuming that Andrew will recognise Lara. eh, I'm also assuming that Andrew will be coming along.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

For the love of all that is decent and good, we all spend too much time in front of computer screens - we'll recognise each other by the deathly pallor.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll link to a picture when I bother.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't have any photos, but i should be easy enough to recognise,i have long hair (long for a boy) and a beard, and appearently look like jesus, and at least four characters from the lord of the rings films, according to different people...
i will be wearing a blue jacket that makes me look like a second division football manager, and blue jeans...

robin (robin), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Andrew Farrell actually coming along (with the fabled four quid!!) or is he defecting to London for the other FAP on Tuesday night?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm also assuming that Andrew will be coming along.

Are you calling me a liar? The pair of yez?

http://www.maths.tcd.ie/~sboyle/PeterDebbie/Images/33.jpg

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 17 February 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew I prayed that camp photo would never get out.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 February 2003 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

what's the html for wishing a hole would open up in the ground and swallow everyone else

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 February 2003 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll take some heat off with a picture of me in a previous life

http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/12ftlizards/vwp?.dir=/&.src=gr&.dnm=This+is+a+lie.jpg&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/12ftlizards/lst%3f%26.dir=/%26.src=gr%26.view=t

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 17 February 2003 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't view that picture, Andrew but it's probably for the best as I am planning on trying to sleep soon.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew, that picture was taken last week, wasn't it?

whose the lady with Ronan? Rowr!

by the way, for FAP purposes my name is "ian" rather than "dirty vicar".

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

that should be "who's", obviously.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea who the lady with Ronan is, and by the looks of things she isn't even registering with him.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

it's victoria beckham

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a mate of my brothers, picture was at my brothers wedding.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

ned maybe

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, so who is coming: I have me, Rener, Lara, Ronan, Killian, Robin, Andrew, is that it?

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Christ Jesus, DV, you announce a place and a time, and that's it. Place Settings aren't necessary.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

YOU ARE A COCKWAD

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, fair enough. Sorry about that, man.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

B-b-but Dirty Vicar is a better name than Ian (no offence to Ian's mum and dad it is still lovely but not mentalist enough for my requirements). And it shortens to the snappy "DV". Perhaps you could call him "Big D".

Oh alright I'm not even going...

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

aw come on over, starry! we promise we won't suddenly abscond to a funny middle eastern country this time.

rener (rener), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

ned maybe

Eh?

I AM planning on visiting Dublin when I go over for the big Tomfest in October...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I AM planning on visiting Dublin when I go over for the big Tomfest in October...

you're coming over for a festival by Country n Irish sensation Big Tom & The Mainliners? I'm there.

Starry: I wish I wasn't called Ian either.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Barrys Hotel it is.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

urrggghhh, I am flashing back to my years of underage drinking hell.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

did you meet declan nerney and louise morrisey?

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, and Philomena Begley.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

And Ray Lynam sat me on his knee.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 18 February 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

"You can recognise Big Tom from the bolts in his neck"

Michael B, Tuesday, 18 February 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I just want to move this up the new answers page, in the hope that some mentalist in London charges to London City Airport and gets the first plane over.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure my donkey and I will be entertainment enough.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

In my recent experience, livestock is essential for a good FAP.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure if I can make it, I can't really afford it and I've been out a bit too much lately. I'm sorry for the short notice.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

b...b...but Ronan, without you none of us will recognise each other!

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, I said I'd get you a congratulatory pint on the basis of exam success so you could come in for a little bit if you like. No pressure though as you may not be 'in the mood'.

DV - we will be fine!! I might even be early.

(Recognition aid: I'm wearing red shoes)

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm really sorry, yeah I'm just a bit shattered to be honest, I was up for it but the weekend has caught up on me a bit. I intended staying in bed all day today and then coming but then some aussie guy from some multigym rang at 11 this morning and wouldn't hang up until I agreed I'd come along for a trial. He was unbelievable, I said I probably won't make it and he said "oh you mean if an act of god or something stopped you".

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm leaving to head into town now,so hopefully you'll still be there and i'll figure out who you all are when i get in there...

robin (robin), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm about to leave work too. Look for a girl with red shoes and some mental looking blokes.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

87 posts to get six ILX-ers to a pub midweek. Are the Dublin crew the pfaffiest?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

you forgot glasgow. they're even worse.

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to leave now... The Long Hall is about 10 minutes away.

We don't so much love to FAP as love to FAF.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Glasgow are k.rub. They can't even get to a pub.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

What's multigym Ronan? You will have to do some Rocky-style work out? Have fun Dublin!

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know, I had no interest and he kept on at me and on at me, it was 11 in the morning and I could only answer yes yes.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

(I am not missing the FAP due to that multigym thing, in case it seems that way, it does look a bit ambiguous. I just cited that as the reason I was up at 11)

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

It was a marvel! Bits of me are sore!

I can reveal that there is not a fat arse or ugly bastard among us. Andrew might take objection (but I wasn't looking my best). FAP so successful that we're having another one next Wednesday. The DV lived up to his name as did his accomplice in filth The Dirty Nun (known to some of you I believe). Robin and Kilian in fine form too. ‘Yer Man O'Farrell’ spent most of the evening giggling like a loon. The resounding impression I left with was that the Dublin ILXers are good at drinking but don't like cider (excluding me) and smile a lot. Conversation didn't flag so there was no need for me to have brought along a copy of NOW! Magazine featuring celebrities looking dodge.

Anyway, my head is tired and the clacking of my keyboard is beginning to hurt me. And I still have the DV's last words ringing in my ears: "Dance my pretties, dance!! Mwah ha ha ha!". That man is the living embodiment of vice. I mean I didn't want to go see hookers dance...

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 20 February 2003 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I need to go to one of these. Why's no one else in Exeter?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 20 February 2003 09:33 (twenty-two years ago)

don't listen to Lara! I am not a living embodiment of vice. I was merely providing spiritual solace to those poor fallen women.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 20 February 2003 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Spiritual solace and a helping, supportive hand...

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 20 February 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Those poor children.

Anyway, next wednesday we're all going to the Chalets in Whelans. AREN'T WE?

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 20 February 2003 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

*bleugh*

rener (rener), Thursday, 20 February 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

YES. WE ARE.

I am popping in to Road this evening.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 20 February 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

shall we start a separate thread entitled "Lessons of the Dublin FAP", or would that be one of those BAD THREADS which is wasting space on the board?

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 20 February 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Go for it! I promise to populate it with, um, *stuff*. I'll need some prompting though, I'm still sleepy-minded.

Maybe you could start one that is more generic like 'Donkeys and Hookers at FAPs - Classic or Dud?' or one focused on what you have learned from FAPs that have improved the way you live your life (can't think of an interesting title).

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 20 February 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i've already forgotten all the lessons we learned at the dublin FAP. can anyone remember them? apart from the one about not letting the dirty vicar near lapello's ever again (although he's barred now anyway, so that shouldn't be a problem)

rener (rener), Thursday, 20 February 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I've started a thread with a dull boring title.

because I am dull and boring.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 20 February 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

That's not what Frisky Fiona said after the private dance!!

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 20 February 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I was hearing her confession!

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 20 February 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

shame i couldn't stay longer than a pint last night, but it was nice to meet you all...

robin (robin), Thursday, 20 February 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

we'll see you again real soon. you should come to the Chalets next week, they're Grrrrrrreat!

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 20 February 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

might do...how much is it?

robin (robin), Thursday, 20 February 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Seven Euro! tickets from Road. See them now before they are famous, so you can bore your friends about them in years to come.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 20 February 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm,i might head along,i've never seen the chalets, although i've heard good things...

robin (robin), Thursday, 20 February 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

About the fringes? They're as good as they say.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

the music is quite good too.

Who are Neosupervital?

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

They're the band of the drummer from Settler.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Be honest, it was the fringes and the woolly jumpers that hooked us.

Neosupervital: electro, synth-pop genius from Dublin.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 20 February 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

jaysus, sounds like I will soon have another new favourite band.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 20 February 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I am now deeply looking forward to stopping by Dublin in October. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 February 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lapello girls are already limbering up for you.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 20 February 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Later - Chalets tomorrow! Raw Power!

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Only 50 people live in Dublin, they were all at Neurosupervital and The Chalets last night and I appear to know them all.

'When I kiss you I can't close my eyes,
When you kiss me you can't hide your smile.'

*sigh*

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 February 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i liked the Chalets loads, but felt sorry for them because the crowd was too rub to shout for an encore. i squeaked "more" once or twice then stopped when i realised everyone else had stopped clapping and was just talking among themselves. gah, tepid audiences, i hates 'em.

rener (rener), Thursday, 27 February 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

We were too busy being jealous of red, glittered accessories to shout.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 February 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

NSV's cover of the Chalets beat anything by the Chalets. This is high praise.

And, seriously, are there any _bad_ songs about kissing?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 27 February 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

French Kissing in the USA.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 February 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

NSV's cover of the Chalets beat anything by the Chalets. This is high praise.

I disagree. The new rocky version of Theme From Chalets beat NSV's version. NSV's version was G*R*A*T*E, though.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 27 February 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

the rubbish crowd response at the end of that gig has put me in a bad mood I still have not escaped from.

Fie upon you, audiences!

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 27 February 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you persuade them to play Glasgow? (crosses fingers)

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 27 February 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. But I anm having them at my own gig because you have not mailed me back. I also booked Neuorsupervital.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 February 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, Miss Double Standards, you didn't email me back until the next day either!

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 27 February 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

*still waiting*

As you are aware a swift response is key. Bullet points will be fine.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

urrrgh, all this multiple name business is freaking me out... Madchen, are you someone else I know from the world of e-mail?

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Her real name is Madchen in Uniform and she lives in G*****w. She has a tendency to wear racy lipstick and fishnet stockings when she's out of an evening.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Is she you?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Her real name is Madchen in Uniform and she lives in G*****w. She has a tendency to wear racy lipstick and fishnet stockings when she's out of an evening.

OH MY GOD! MY LIFE HAS TURNED INTO THE PINA COLADA SONG!

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello DV, didn't you realise you'd been emailing me? Har!

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe I wasn't.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 27 February 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
Ballroom of Romance tomorrow night:

“This Friday... 28th March... in the Lower Deck (behind Portobello College). At 9pm the Ballroom of Romance presents:

* Holy Ghost Fathers - played a brilliant set in the Village on Friday, they'll be promoting their just-released debut album "Cock of the Walk".

* The 66 Electric - one of Dublin's most promising bands, they'll be playing their wonderful brand of rock to the Ballroom boys and girls.
* Delorentos - energetic live act similar in vein to Manic Street Preachers and Radiohead.

* Aurel - Donegal's finest will be bringing us their big, loud sound.

6 euro at the door and a CD-R featuring tracks from the bands to the 1st 100 in.”

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 March 2003 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

are these bands good, then?

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 27 March 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

"Aurel - Donegal's finest will be bringing us their big, loud sound."

big and loud, indeed. i have no doubt they'll be excellent.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 27 March 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't seen all these bands DV but the Ballroom crew always put on a good show.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 March 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds effective. I have a fantastic CDR courtesy of Dr C that all would enjoy. I'll loan it to any who wants, though those that have Dr C CDRs to bargain with will probably win the day.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 27 March 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh and I have the ILE Comp for the DV (and Rener too) cos Andrew made acopy of his for Angela. Yay!

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 March 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know if any of you heard about this or got the mail? I am forwarding this message from Road about the imminent axing of No Disco by the heinous people in charge of RTE.

'As some of you may or may not know RTE are scrapping the wonderful No Disco show in 2 weeks time and some good thinking people have started up a wee petition to let RTE know how real music fans feel about this. Now we are not normally known for this kind of thing but if you feel as strongly about this as we do then please take one minute of your time to go and sign it, we will also have paper copies here in the shop if you want. This show is really the only outlet for real music and Irish music to get even a minor bit of airplay so lets see what can happen. The link is below'

http://www.petitiononline.com/thumped/petition.html

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 March 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It's past imminent: yesterdays was the last No Disco.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 27 March 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Fite the fite, Andrew!! The battle is *ongoing*.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 March 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah its still probably worth signing the petition,i remember no disco being "cancelled" before and then reappearing...

robin (robin), Thursday, 27 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

And I think Leagues was very brave to take the position considering the shoes he had to fill and the circumstances surrounding the need for a new presenter...

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 March 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I have problems with No Disco.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 27 March 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, the petition should ask for a balancing programme called "Disco Disco Disco" to appeal to the yoof.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 27 March 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Leagues somehow manages to make watching obscure indie videos at 11 on a wednesday evening feel even more desperate pathetic and lonesome than it actually is, this is a really difficult task and I'm not sure if it makes him televisions answer to Morrisey or just a complete fucking disaster.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 27 March 2003 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Another anti-war demo on saturday!

Smash war!

I'm not sure about the Ballroom of Romance. I would like to go to this sometime, but I am going out for a porky dinner tomorrow night.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 27 March 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

anyone interested in Mika Bomb and WARLORDS OF PEZ on sunday.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 28 March 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I wasn't in Dublin. Did you go?

The Warlocks are playing Whelans on Tuesday night and Tycho Brahe are there on Saturday. These are my (second-hand) recommendations for the week (as I have seen neither live). I have to be boring this week and study, unless Pete can swing me a sick note.

Ronan - stop moaning!

Lara (Lara), Monday, 31 March 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I was tired yesterday, so I went to "The Hours" yesterday. my slumbers kept being interrupted by the chit-chaty munters sitting near me.

The Tycho Brahe - I keep hearing they are good. so I might check them out. yes.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 31 March 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Is The Hours shite?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 31 March 2003 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

The Hours is pretty good, but I was very tired.

it's one of those films with VERY GOOD ACTING where you wonder if there is actually anything to it other than the VERY GOOD ACTING. Watching Nicole Kidman mannerism her way through being Virginia Woolf is a laugh.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 31 March 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

The Tycho Brahe

Do they all wear gold noses?

chris (chris), Monday, 31 March 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Woolf is annoying enough on paper, I would have thought. Nicole looked nearly as bad at the Oscars as she did in the film. Will someone please tell her that the severe hair-style does her no favours and that she had better do something about her washerwoman hands?

The Tycho Brahe

Do they all wear gold noses?

Why must you taunt me with your cleverness? Why?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 31 March 2003 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Tycho Brahe lost his nose in a duel, and then had it replaced with an artificial nose MADE OF GOLD.

to disconcert opponents during arguments about astronomy he would remove it and polish it while they were talking.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 31 March 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Adrien Brody has a big nose.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 31 March 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't been to Ireland for a while, but is No Disco still presented by the TWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATS?

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

opinion is divided on that issue
i think the current presenter is grand, not the most charismatic of people, but not too intrusive either

robin (robin), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...
Bump on advice of DV from another thread (can't do HTML, it's the Dublin v Glasgow one...) So far it looks like:

Myself
Accentmonkey
Poss. Ronan if he's back from London in time
The pastor of perversion

Tuesday next week (the 27th) in the Bankers on Trinity Street from around 6 on. Go on, you know you want to.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Sunday, 25 June 2006 11:38 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be there. Is Lara coming along? How about Kilian?

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 25 June 2006 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

Email them perhaps and let them know? I remember Killian saying that he only checks after work so he might not have seen other thread on new answers.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Sunday, 25 June 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

OK, I've mailed Kilian, Lara, and Robin.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 25 June 2006 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

Duh, not paying attention. I think I will be going to my summer catch-up German class on Tuesday. So no FAP for me, although I could come along late for a quick one, and have pint while I'm at it.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 25 June 2006 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

Spain v France??

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 25 June 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

Come just the pint I think :) There'll be a tv for those interested in teh footie.

Is the delightful Renner coming?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Monday, 26 June 2006 08:19 (nineteen years ago)

oh wait, I'm not coming along but you want to move in on me bird? I'm wise to your game.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 26 June 2006 08:57 (nineteen years ago)

Blast. I thought I was being all subtle and stuff. I thought you were coming along after German thing?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Monday, 26 June 2006 09:13 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, but when Ian and his German classmates get together, it's MOIDER! Er, I mean they might stay up quite late.

Is it okay if my big brother comes along too? He is a nice man.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 26 June 2006 18:00 (nineteen years ago)

OK team - I feel I cannot commit for deffo to come along tomorrow, as I don't want you to be all puppy sad if I don't make it. If I make it to krautschule and then feel mad for it afterwards I'll text to see where you are, but I may just slink off home pathetically.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 26 June 2006 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

Mind you, handsome Steve is a tempting prospect.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 26 June 2006 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

BB more than welcome.. You make Ian sound like Lord Haw Haw.

Will be in pub from six on. For those I haven't met I will be wearing blue t shirt with pink brain thing on it and orange trainers. Needless to say I am also gorgeous. In a certain light. An off one naturally.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 07:36 (nineteen years ago)

I'm full of germs this week so I won't be FAPping, which is a shame. But I look forward to the Reporting Back.

rener (rener), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 08:21 (nineteen years ago)

I will do my best to come in. I get in about 7, I'll definitely come in if I amn't feeling too crap.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 08:25 (nineteen years ago)

Roysh, switching off here. In Bankers by six. Trish, will see you there. Rener, sorry not to see you. Get well soon! Ian, hope to see you and Ronan later.

Everyone else: There is always a next time :)

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

I did see Kevin. He has had a haircut. Then me and Mister Monkey left about 8pm because they turned the football on REALLY LOUD in the pub (because obviously the best part of any football match is the commentary amirite?). Now it's time for bed.

Here's a thing that won't matter to anyone outside Dublin: I don't have email or internet access in my new job (yes, I work down a well), so if anyone's got anything to say on the day of a FAP and they want me to hear, well, they'll have to say it to my textphone.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

Met Trish which was a pleasure. Mister Monkey is lovely and has many a fine film to reccomend. Also fun meeting BB who managed to be v amusing after a night on the razz and a day in the office.

Kennedys next time for convenience we think. Except that would mean no Mr Monkey, maybe we could hand him pints through the door?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 07:43 (nineteen years ago)

Why can't he go to Kennedys?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 08:39 (nineteen years ago)

Hates the place apparently. Something to do with the staff being cnuts or similar.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 08:43 (nineteen years ago)

Hey guys, sorry I didn't make it, I only got home at 7.30 or so, my flight was a little delayed. At that stage I just got dinner and watched the match,

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 09:43 (nineteen years ago)

No worries. We'll have to do the next one before you go to london obviously!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

Well, we'll see!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 10:56 (nineteen years ago)

I am sorry to miss a Dublin FAP, but you should all be sorry to have missed France vs Spain.

the finefox (the pinefox), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

If you did miss it.

the fi (the pinefox), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

That was from the finefox, not the fi.

Dear me.

the finefox (the pinefox), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

sorry i didn't make it guys, i had a tennis match. i lost, by the way - i'm sure you all spent the entire FAP anxiously fretting over the result.

i'll def be at the next one - kennedy's ok by me. linda's uncle is a bouncer there!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 12:16 (nineteen years ago)

two months pass...
Following on from this:

Electric Picnic in September...

Who Fancies A Pint? I have renounced booze for at least a month (read: three days at the most) but my rubber arm is still in existence.

Kennedys. Who is in? What day suits? I have a leaning towards Thursday of this week or any day later on next week. I'm easy though (careful).

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 09:31 (nineteen years ago)

I can do thursday this week. Wor bird is handing in a thesis that day and so will be going knacker drinking with her classmates, leaving me with no booze buddies.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

Think I'm getting keys to apartment on thursday, shall be testing the flush, bouncing on the bed and opening a bottle of whiskey.

Does anyone have a telly they want to give me?
Poverty stricken student seeks television for friendship, maybe more. N/S, GSOH a must.

Major Alfonso (Major Alfonso), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 18:53 (nineteen years ago)

No free telly here, but I could go for a pint on Thursday in a big way.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

can't do thursday, sorry guys.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

When would suit Kilian and M.A.? I'm keen on thursday but open to suggestion. I would need to be on best behavious as we have VIPs arriving on the Friday, the swine!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 21:55 (nineteen years ago)

Well, tonight doesn't suit me, but there are openings next week...

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 05:54 (nineteen years ago)

How about mini-FAP this thursday then big FAP next week at some point when we are all available?

I am free on Tuesday and Thursday As far as I know.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 06:55 (nineteen years ago)

FEEL THE FAP.

so, Kennedys tomorrow after work? That's 6.00pm for me. I'll text Lara and see if she wants to come along.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 10:14 (nineteen years ago)

Grand stuff. 6 works for me. You all know what I look like at this point I'm sure, but again:

Short hair, orange and blue trainers (the shame, same ones as last time), glasses, red t shirt probably, light blue jeans. I'll try to sit at the front bar.

Should I email Ronan and see, he's not been on this thread yet so unsure of protocol etc.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 10:29 (nineteen years ago)

have yourselves a merry mini-fap and I'll pop along for one at a proper fap when I'm re-integrated into dublin and have all this healthy galway air beaten out of me down in Kilmainham.

Major Alfonso (Major Alfonso), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

beaten out of me

Ah go on, it's not that bad...

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

Mini-fap! Result!

See you all tomorrow then at 6. Except for those of you who aren't coming along. At 6.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

Exciting.

the finefox (the pinefox), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 18:21 (nineteen years ago)

i would def be on for the fap next week, have fun tomorrow guys...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

Just name the day Killian. I'm keen on Tuesday now.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, next Tuesday would be great. It turns out I can't come along tonight after all, I have to take Milo to the vet.

Domestic excitement!

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 7 September 2006 05:48 (nineteen years ago)

I am very tight on time tonight, I work till 8 then have to do a radio show at 9. But I can try and pop in for a few minutes, and see about next week, though I'm not drinking these days.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 06:56 (nineteen years ago)

Right so! DV, looks like just you and me if you're still up for it.

Next week on Tuesday - Kennedy's at six again?

Poor Milo :( Hope he feels better soon.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 7 September 2006 07:16 (nineteen years ago)

I'm game for a quick pint tonight. Lara says she might come along too.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 7 September 2006 08:46 (nineteen years ago)

THEN LET'S DO THIS THING!

I'll be there for six so.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 7 September 2006 09:08 (nineteen years ago)

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Saturday, 9 September 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

It was tolerable... Nah, great craic. Even met Ronan in front of the pub by coincidence.

Tuesday okay with everyone? Six at Kennedys etc.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Sunday, 10 September 2006 10:56 (nineteen years ago)

Looks like I'm going to be at the Chelsea match on Tuesday night. Sorry about the no show on Thursday, I couldn't make myself go in to town after a long day at work.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 10 September 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

I am not going if you guys are going to sing Jacksons songs. Badly.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Sunday, 10 September 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

It's not the Jacksons! It's um... someone else. Fingers Inc. or something!

(xpost) No worries, enjoy the match.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Monday, 11 September 2006 07:14 (nineteen years ago)

Todd Terry or something.

Maybe instead of singing early rave classics, we could all Do The Hustle!

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 11 September 2006 08:09 (nineteen years ago)

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo *do the hustle*

Nah, not feeling it. Maybe a couple of pints will help...

It's good that we are getting this out of our system now, so that there can be NO SINGING tomorrow.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 11 September 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

"Can you feel it?" is most definitely the Jacksons. They were huge in the video, giant Jacksons, and they stomped around sowing golden glitter everywhere. Perhaps we are not thinking of the same "Can you feel it?"

We can discuss this in a mature fashion, with beer on the table, tomorrow.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 11 September 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

rock on.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 11 September 2006 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

Also, the blind film with Madeleine Stowe in it was called Blink.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

we must work something out.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 12:18 (eighteen years ago)

DV needs friends.

Kennedys is my first choice of venue still. That said, it'll be suit-y people. Especially in this season of the birth of our Santa.

I would opt for earlier in the week say Wednesday (I can't do Tuesdays for a while. There are 'Reason's [hilarious pun I'll explain in person]).

Does next Wednesday suit everyone? Does anyone have any preferences?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 12:50 (eighteen years ago)

Next Wednesday=good for me.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 23 November 2006 08:21 (eighteen years ago)

Savage! Does after work suit everyone (around 6)?

I'll email k-dawg, I believe he works and doesn't hang around on ILX all day. I mean, what's up with that?!

Wonder if the phantom Alfonso will be there again. He seemed like a pleasant enough chap if easily confused...

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 23 November 2006 09:26 (eighteen years ago)

How is it that you are not K-dawg? I am confused.

Sure, 6pm is good for me.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 23 November 2006 09:39 (eighteen years ago)

K-dawg = Killian.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 23 November 2006 09:40 (eighteen years ago)

No, I know that. But why him and not Kevin, who is also K and could be a dawg?

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 23 November 2006 09:42 (eighteen years ago)

This is down to the fact that we were claiming to K-Dawg's lady how when he's online he keeps going on about his bitches and acting the total gangster. I think you'd been gone a while at that point and much drink had been consumed.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 23 November 2006 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

Ah, that explains all. You kids and your alcohol.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 23 November 2006 09:53 (eighteen years ago)

heh, k-dawg....I have a funny story for k-dawg about our degree. has to be kept on the downlow.

I'm not drinking really these days but might try and make it in if I'm off...wednesday?

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 23 November 2006 10:01 (eighteen years ago)

Yes! It is decided. Okay: Six in Kennedys, Wednesday 29th.

Are we in agreement?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 23 November 2006 10:02 (eighteen years ago)

Ronan, I don't really drink either, so we can wait for the others to get completely pissed and then suggest a high-stakes game of some kind and take all their money.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 23 November 2006 10:04 (eighteen years ago)

Might I suggest a German language rap battle?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 23 November 2006 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

No. Anyway, I suspect you may have already had one and are trying to catch me out.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 23 November 2006 10:26 (eighteen years ago)

Not at all. I'm crap at German, DV is even worse. It'll be entertaining. Shall we say a fiver each in the pot?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 23 November 2006 10:40 (eighteen years ago)

I definitely FAP. Accentmonkey, we can talk to each other IN ENGLISH and ignore the Teutonicness around us if necessary.

rener (rener), Thursday, 23 November 2006 11:08 (eighteen years ago)

wai to haet dootchy?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 23 November 2006 12:27 (eighteen years ago)

i'll be there, fo sho

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 23 November 2006 12:35 (eighteen years ago)

Holla

(forgot to say: Read your Ghostface review in HP. Meant to email that I'd enjoyed it, sorry bud)

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 23 November 2006 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

Was the by-line "K-Dawg"? (answers other than "yes" need not apply)

rener (rener), Thursday, 23 November 2006 13:29 (eighteen years ago)

eight months pass...

YAYAY I AM GOING TO DUBLING! DUBLINGFAP? ROCKTOBER?

who will take me drinking?

emsk, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

When are you coming? I will certainly take you drinking if I'm here.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

hurrah! i am coming on thursday october 4th and leaving on sunday october 7th.

emsk, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 15:00 (eighteen years ago)

Is there a special occasion?

Also, we will certainly be in Dublin on Thursday October 4th. It is Mister Monkey's birthday.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

Savage. I'll be around those evenings and will be on for pints.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

YAY EXTRA CELEBRATIONS

Is there a special occasion?

no wedding or anything, thankfully. one of my bands is playing and it would be good to go meet some irish promoters etc so i'm turning it into a weekend and bringing like 5 more gurls with me.

emsk, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

Where is band playing and what night in case you'd like more numbers there...

So what evening would suit? Needless to say I selfishly would prefer Friday or Saturday meaning that I could sleep off hangover the next day.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

hehe, you're so welcoming. I stood downstairs before emsk's band came on and then ran away before I had to pay money and watch them when she/they came to Glasgow.

ailsa, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

you wouldn't have had to see them ailsa! anyway it was ACES to hang out w you in glasgow, so aces now i am going on ilxtour. venue still tbc i think - er hang on - ok, probably/possibly l0w3r d3ck? (i don't know why i'm googleproofing that but it's not 100% confirmed) it will be on thursday, the gig.

emsk, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

Right, is that the L0w3r D3ck in Portobello? If so, I can recommend pre-gig pints around Camden Street (specifically Anseo) and post gig pints in Slatterys in Rathmines. I know that DV and Rener are okay up around there but that might be too far for Accentmonkey to come. Perhaps proper FAP on the Friday/Saturday but those of us on for gig could meet up on Thursday?

kv_nol, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

i dunno! is it like somewhere between 100-250capacity? i land at 5 on thursday, will get coach from airport, will be staying in some scuzzy hostel probably, as central as possible

emsk, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

It might be. I haven't been there for years!

kv_nol, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

cathy & I keep saying we should visit dublin to each other

RJG, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

The Lower Deck is pretty small... 250 capacity? maybe. I love that you are bringing five more gurls with you - indie hen weekend!

Slattery's in Rathmines, haven't been there in a while. mad buzz.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

RJG and Cathy - bring it on. Maybe you could synchronise with the Pinefox coming over sometime, that would be great crack.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

RJG, that and a Ryanair flight will get you here.

Emsk, Kevin, I will certainly make the trek all the way over southside to hang out with you guys and see Emsk's band. Fo' sho'.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

The Lower Deck is pretty small... 250 capacity? maybe.

250 cap sounds about right yeah, wouldn't want any bigger (i realise i sound like i am clueless but there is a trusted irish promoter sorting me out 4x irish shows - we've agreed what we need and he's got the local knowledge, so...).

I love that you are bringing five more gurls with you - indie hen weekend!

heh yeah, we know that's what we'll end up looking like! nobody's prawn is threatening to stick L plates on The Russian.

Emsk, Kevin, I will certainly make the trek all the way over southside to hang out with you guys and see Emsk's band. Fo' sho'.

ACES :) haha i have been springing around the office, people are looking at me like i'm mental.

emsk, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 18:07 (eighteen years ago)

Groovy, accentmonkey. Okay so. Emsk, give us a time to be there for. I can meet you 'n' ur cru (plz 2 insert umlaut) beforehand and we can head up together or I'll just meet you there.

RJG let go. Of your fear of Ireland. Come over sometime. Plz to also bring Cathy. Always fun having ILXors descend upon us.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

Emsk - is this your band in the way that Simon Cowell has bands, or are you in this band?

The Real Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

That's quite far for me but maybe I can make it, or else maybe do something else around that time. I will keep reading this thread!

Ronan, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

Emsk - is this your band in the way that Simon Cowell has bands, or are you in this band?

neither! it is in... another capacity... i am not in the band but i work for the band. this show is gonna be a solo one, i should stop saying "band".

emsk, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 20:13 (eighteen years ago)

Uh oh... singer-songwriter?

kv_nol, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 09:11 (eighteen years ago)

ex-screamer

emsk, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 09:20 (eighteen years ago)

not remotely wimpy

emsk, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 09:44 (eighteen years ago)

Savage. As a nation we had a glut of singer-songwriters for a few years. It made going to any open mike night a v dangerous experience. Seriously, it was as if no one was getting any unless they could play guitar and look like they were crying. It was a long and lonely few years for us piano playing smiley people :(

kv_nol, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 09:53 (eighteen years ago)

nono, this one is lots of hedonism and not being a twat

emsk, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 09:56 (eighteen years ago)

I must e-mail PF

RJG, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 09:59 (eighteen years ago)

btw, obviously it is fine for you and Cathy to come to Dublin without the Pinefox.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

haha, thanks for the clarification

I really should e-mail him, though

RJG, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

He emailed me the other day. I should email him back.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 9 August 2007 09:22 (eighteen years ago)

He e-mailed me FROM HIS HOME. I mailed back.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Thursday, 9 August 2007 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

daerest irish people

would it be complete mentalism to attempt/is it even possible:

to leave dublin late friday afternoon (pref by train... might it have to be plane?), go to a gig in bangor friday night and be back in dublin in time for, i dunno, some kind of dubious lockin or a clubnight or whatever my friends are likely to be doing? i don't really want to - i mean, i *really* don't want to - but it would earn me 1xshitload brownie points with someone with whom my brownie point rating is currently quite low. the interwebs is no bloody use, or perhaps my geography is no bloody use (i mean, i know where they both are, but as far as transport between the two goes, i don't even know what i'm looking for). do not want to stay overnight in bangor, want to party with my friends in dublin. but if i can do the whole thing in like 4 or 5hrs it might be worth it.

emsk, Monday, 3 September 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)

Basically, I think not. The train system in Ireland is pretty rubbish, and I suspect that the last train from Belfast to Dublin leaves well before your gig in Bangor finishes.

The Irish Rail website will tell you train times between Dublin and Belfast. Some Nornie rail website will tell you about train times between Belfast and Bangor.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 3 September 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

The Vicar speaks the truth. Also, even if you could make it by plane, it would be expensive.

accentmonkey, Monday, 3 September 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

cool, thanks. i wouldn't be paying for it... i dunno, i'm really torn...

emsk, Monday, 3 September 2007 18:11 (eighteen years ago)

You can do it Emsk if you overnight it maybe. I had a friend based in Bangor. Take the ferry from Dublin to Hollyhead, train it up and down (two hours each way). At least I think that's how she did it. I'll get more details and let you know. Basically check a) last ferry back to Dublin from Holyhead and b) second last - last train between Bangor and Holyhead. How much time will you have between arriving and leaving. It might only be two hours.

Friday lock ins are rare here but there are club nights.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

Are we talking bangor in wales or northern ireland?

Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 10:13 (eighteen years ago)

Whoops. u_u

I think you could do it Emsk.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 10:28 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.translink.co.uk/

Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 10:35 (eighteen years ago)

bangor northern ireland!

basically... what i want is to hang out with my friends, i've booked friday afternoon as holiday. but the line between my work life and my personal/social life is pretty blurry anyway (ha, just realised, i think all the people who're coming are somehow related to the music industry - a promoter, an ex-promoter, a crazyass jetsetter, someone else from our office...) and i'm hoping to do a bit more work stuff when i'm there anyway, hook up w some people i talk to often but never get to meet. if the gig was in dublin i wouldn't hesitate. if the gig was one i thought they'd be into i would try to drag my friends with me but i don't think it'll be their thing. one of them we have persuaded over from paris for this weekend, so it might be a bit crap of me to bugger off friday night. otoh this job is really important to me. otoh so are my friends.

ARGH.

swing/roundabout.

emsk, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

Hang out with friends, I think you go above and beyond for this job already.

Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know your situation but Emsk you're on your hols. Just organise booze to be bought for friend in the North or something similar.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

Just tell them it's not possible to be there. I've checked the bus times and so on for you, and it's kind of not. To get to Bangor from Dublin you have to go through Belfast, and if you leave Bangor at 9pm you don't get back to Dublin till, like, 1am or something. Not enough time!

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

Yo. Is this shiznit still happening?

kv_nol, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

OMG Emsk Pinefox DANCE OFF!

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 1 October 2007 09:36 (eighteen years ago)

Okay that would be excellent. Make it so DV...

kv_nol, Monday, 1 October 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)

Kv, if we are fapping this weekend, can I beg my DVD back off you? Mister M is going away for a couple of weeks and I need something to cheer me up while he's away.

accentmonkey, Monday, 1 October 2007 11:13 (eighteen years ago)

I could have mailed you about that privately, I guess, but this time you'll be reminded of it every time you open the thread. I R BRANE

accentmonkey, Monday, 1 October 2007 11:13 (eighteen years ago)

Kv, if we are fapping this weekend, can I beg my DVD back off you? Mister M is going away for a couple of weeks and I need something to cheer me up while he's away.

-- accentmonkey, Monday, 1 October 2007 12:13 (Monday, 1 October 2007 12:13)

Of course you can. Again, my apologies for not getting it back to you sooner. If you could also email on Wed would be good because I R NON BRANE :(

kv_nol, Monday, 1 October 2007 11:17 (eighteen years ago)

YESH it is happening!

we do not have a place to stay! OH NO!! apparently the police are playing this w/e and everywhere is full of police fans :/

emsk, Monday, 1 October 2007 11:23 (eighteen years ago)

Near to the venue you have:

http://www.portobellohotel.ie/

About ten minutes walk away there is:

http://www.uppercrosshousehotel.com/

I've found when travelling abroad that www.hostelworld.com are very good, they also find cheap hotels.

kv_nol, Monday, 1 October 2007 11:39 (eighteen years ago)

thanks! apparently the police are playing and everywhere is booked up :/

emsk, Monday, 1 October 2007 11:58 (eighteen years ago)

That would make sense. I suggested those two as I didn't think they'd be too popular/full as their only slightly beyond city centre limits NB our city centre isn't very big so don't be worrying. If I think of more I'll post.

kv_nol, Monday, 1 October 2007 12:12 (eighteen years ago)

I would put you up, but I am far away from town. However, my phone number is easily obtainable from Andrew if you are stuck.

accentmonkey, Monday, 1 October 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

Er, but I can't take everyone.

accentmonkey, Monday, 1 October 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

There is an apartment in Tallaght - how far away from Dublin is that i.e. can we get back at night OK

Nobodysprawn, Monday, 1 October 2007 12:47 (eighteen years ago)

Yes you can, there is a LUAS that runs to Tallaght until late, possibly 1am? Be aware though that some parts of Tallaght are a little bit dodgy, so don't be waving money around or anything like that.

I mean, it's grand, like, but less salubrious than other parts.

accentmonkey, Monday, 1 October 2007 12:49 (eighteen years ago)

LUAS=tram

accentmonkey, Monday, 1 October 2007 12:49 (eighteen years ago)

this is the place I was thinking of
http://www.abberley.ie/dublin_west_hotel.html
Not that you go staying in hotels in/around Dublin 'cos you live there, but if you've heard anything good/bad, that would be good to know....

Nobodysprawn, Monday, 1 October 2007 12:58 (eighteen years ago)

Looks perfectly fine. Very close to the tram line as well.

accentmonkey, Monday, 1 October 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

So guys, is there a plan? What time are we to be at Lower Deck? Will we meet for pints first and present united front? I'm free from 6 on and can either meet people for food or head home and come out again. Just remembered, there is the Bernard Shaw that's recently reopened around the corner. I've only been in once and while it does smell toilety it's quiet enough for everyone to find one another.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:51 (eighteen years ago)

I am meeting Mister M for romantic birthday dinner beforehand, so will meet everyone in the Lower Deck.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:52 (eighteen years ago)

What day is this due?

My friends run the Bernard Shaw and I likes it!

Ronan, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

Thursday night.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

Thursday.

You're biased so. I was downstairs at the back once and it was quite whiffy. I am willing to be bought off for a pint and accept that it's probably settled in very well :)

So are we all meeting there or food first?

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

YAY WE HAVE PLACE TO STAY RUSSIAN FOUND IT WOW

emsk, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

Awesomes. Well at least that's sorted so. Whereabouts is it?

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:32 (eighteen years ago)

upper gardiner st is where we are staying.

meeting for food sounds good, we land at 5 and will have no checked luggage and then get a bus, apparently the 14 or 61 will take us there, then we might need a shower cos planes make you stinky right, then head out to meet everyone so i dunno how long that takes...

EXCITED!!

how cold is it in dublin?

emsk, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

The 41 is the bus you want to get from the airport. It will take you right to Upper Gardiner St.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

It is not cold in Dublin at the moment. Certainly no colder than most bits of Britain.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

I find it cold! Also there's a risk of rain.

You're central so that's a good thing anyway. I'd say with travel etc. you probably won't be ready until around seven, half seven. I don't know what time your fellah is on. Could be best (you are a vegetarian y/n?) to meet at Juice on George's Street for food or if that's too close to stage time there's also Havana just around the corner from the venue.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

ok good. i don't know why i thought it might be cold. weather.co.uk says wet and warm. must remember umbrella. i was in liverpool in a hoodie and a quite small skirt and bare legs on saturday and that was ok so...

he'll be on 10ish i guess? i dunno how the curfew laws/licences are in ireland. have asked the promoter anyway.

i am a vegetarian y, and the russian who'll be with me thurs (the rest arrive fri) is a rabid carnivore

emsk, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

he'll be on 10ish i guess? i dunno how the curfew laws/licences are in ireland. have asked the promoter anyway.

SHould be until 12:30. Should be...

i am a vegetarian y, and the russian who'll be with me thurs (the rest arrive fri) is a rabid carnivore

Well that means no Juice (YAY!). Guys, any suggestions or will we plonk for Havana either on Lower George's Street or just off Camden Street? Solas also do veggy noodles as well as meaty things.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

OK team, what is this concert again?

The Pinefox arrives on friday, so it will be all ILX party all the time this weekend.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

I love how there are three different threads about the Pinefox coming to Dublin.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:48 (eighteen years ago)

Kev Lok, why do you not link to your blog from your ILX profile?

The Real Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

what is the time and venue for the thursday fap? can't quite make out the plan from the above discussion!!!

i should be able to make it, haven't seen you guys in ages!

Weasel Diesel, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 08:30 (eighteen years ago)

The plan is that some people connected with Emsk are playing in the Lower Deck tomorrow night. We are slightly unsure as to time, but Emsk reckons her folks are on about 10pm?

I don't think anything has been arranged concerning an actual meeting place or time, so you haven't really missed anything.

I am going for dinner with Mister M, so we should be to the Lower Deck by 9pm. However, we have to go all the way home to Laytown, so I don't even know if we'll be able to stay for the gig, and might only get to meet people for an hour or so.

Why do gigs have to be so late alla time?

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 08:44 (eighteen years ago)

Because blog is not really for the world, just a select few. (xxpost)

This concert is a rocky singer-songwriter (I think). As far as I can gather Emsk wants food first. It might be best for us to meet at a pub before heading in because with 5 people getting ready for night out and eating goodness knows when they might emerge </sexist pig>

So with that in mind will we say: Upstairs at Lower Deck from 9 on. Anyone fancy dinner or a pint beforehand?

Ha ha accentmonkey, the last two I've been to in Crawdaddy and Pod started at 01:30. Nightmare!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 08:51 (eighteen years ago)

Also: Hi k*ll*an, where've you been?

kv_nol, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 08:51 (eighteen years ago)

Because blog is not really for the world, just a select few. (xxpost)

BUT NOW everyone can find it from my blog!

The Real Dirty Vicar, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 09:49 (eighteen years ago)

I might not make it to the gig, as I am going out to one tonight and possibly friday, and I can't rock out every night. But maybe I will pub.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 09:58 (eighteen years ago)

Who says you can't rock out?!

BUT NOW everyone can find it from my blog!

But there isn't anything in it yet!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:29 (eighteen years ago)

ha ha ha, people will laugh at your empty blog.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

If it's only your readers I can cope with your mum's laughter.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:34 (eighteen years ago)

OH SNAP!

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:56 (eighteen years ago)

tonight!!

havana? solas?

shit i need to download a map.

who can i email my phone number to please?

emsk, Thursday, 4 October 2007 09:37 (eighteen years ago)

Me. it's kn0lan80 @ gm41l . c0m

I'll reply with mine. Chatting to DV and Rener at gig last night they will be there at Lower Deck for nine. I will be available from 7 say. That should give time to prepare etc. Have you been to Dublin before Emsk? Is there a landmark that would work for you to meet at and then head on to Solas or Havana for food and/or pints .

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 09:59 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah, apart from the 80 change all the numbers to letters...

kv_nol, Thursday, 4 October 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

We will meet peeps in the Lower Deck at 9pm, but I don't think we're going to be able to hang around for the gig because we have to get back over to Parnell St to get the bus home at 11.

suzy, Monday, 8 October 2007 08:43 (eighteen years ago)

omg so many tourists though! it's like covent garden, everywhere. i dunno how you put up with it.

the belgian missed her plane (because she was looking for biscuits...) - did she manage to get back, does anyone know? i haven't heard from her since a panicked call from her boarding gate. dirtyvicar texted to say they had her and the situation was under control but that was last night

Also, try and find someone to hold your chips for you while you are waiting at a bus stop.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:20 (eighteen years ago)

Also, try and find someone to hold your chips for you while you are waiting at a bus stop.

what does that mean??

i didn't have any chips, andrew sent us to what he said was the best fish & chips in dublin and it was all cooked in animals. the others had some but i dunno if they were nice or not

emsk, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:29 (eighteen years ago)

Emsk, he is a bad man. Do not learn this phrase!

kv_nol, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

now i am imagining all sorts of disrepute

emsk, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:44 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, to give you a rough idea... at the moment of rejection the boy could say something like: "But I bought you chips!" I presume that DV means that the lady should hold the chips while the boy gets up to very bad things. This is all guessing as I've not hear the exact phrase as used by DV there. I will also not be going to a chipper with him any time soon.

kv_nol, Monday, 8 October 2007 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

There is an apocryphal story of some young gentleman being overheard saying to his lady friend "Of course I love you - sure don't I buy you chips and ride you?".

There are also reports of gentlemen of that type being so kind as to hold their ladyfriends' chips for them while engaging in amorous activity while waiting for the bus, so that in an excited moment she will not drop them.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 8 October 2007 11:55 (eighteen years ago)

Only on the southside. We're classy like that.

How was FAP last night?

kv_nol, Monday, 8 October 2007 12:02 (eighteen years ago)

it was strange and mysterious.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 8 October 2007 12:13 (eighteen years ago)

Must remember to say away from the donkeys in Lapellos.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 8 October 2007 12:17 (eighteen years ago)

Mental image of Pinefox sitting beside stage throwing money at donkey in garter is pretty priceless...

Late one?
