Maybe with crooning too...? Next week...?

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:13 (twenty-three years ago)

You you mean. The return of FAK!

Next Thursday, Pint Pot. We'll be taking Karaoke requests up front.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Does elitist mean we get to go to a bar Tom? *widens eyes in innocent fashoin*

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:17 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm so there.

(nb when i saw pitman on the weekend (he was amazing) i was strongly reminded of tom's 'work it'.)

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Not the pint pot again please.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it means you are all fans of the great Acornsoft computer game from 1986 Elite.

Pint Pot has singing. Pint Pot it is.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Where's me biscuits.

The Pint Pot has nasty wood veneer on its tables Anna so it's nearly a bar.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:21 (twenty-three years ago)

also: stevie t *must* attend!

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Oooh karaoke pints... I hereby formally place my 'dibs' on "Sk8r Boi", right?

Why don't you like the Pint Pot, Graham? I was too pissed to tell if there was something obnoxious about it last time. And it was snowing and stuff!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:22 (twenty-three years ago)

You better lose yourself...

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't come between Liz and her Avril!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:24 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah yeah alan! you so have to do that.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:25 (twenty-three years ago)

i am in new york:(

no, wait, i mean :) yay!!!

but i'm fancy going out sunday round either angel or soho i think, so drop me a mail people that drop me mails, or call me. my phone isnt really on silent though, i'm just busy, leave a message;)

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I just don't like the layout. Actually I think that's more to do with karaoke then the pub, so whatever.

Maybe my I'm Not A Girl (Not Yet A Woman) will make an appearance. Seems doubtful though.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:26 (twenty-three years ago)

do you mean this sunday (9th), gareth? i'm on for that. (also i am about to email you.)

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:32 (twenty-three years ago)

yea, the 9th. drop emails like seaman drops crosses

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha, Mr Nipper! You have previous performance rights on "Complicated", which should be more than enough for any of us, innit.

Can someone with a slightly lower voice (i.e. probably a chap) than me do "Wichita Lineman", because I love it, but the last time it was attempted I came slightly unstuck on the bottom notes. Damn this X chromosome*.

*this may be facetious.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:40 (twenty-three years ago)

They didn't have it last time, but way back when in the KoC I did a bitchin'* version of Witchita Lineman.

*I think this is the first time I have ever used this word.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Why the bloody hell do you always do these things on thursdays? I am actually going to see if I can make it this time, though.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll come for the drinks beforehand but I won't be able to stay for the karaoke.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Karaoke is on Thrusday, I get outa school at 7:30 on a Thursday, the pub is open til 1am on a Thursday, I made the decision.

Reasons like that.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:54 (twenty-three years ago)

What Gareth said, except about Sunday.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Aww Liz, I wanted Sk8ter Boi, but I need to be drunk to sing, so prob bes you do it.

Do you think we'll get another blizard? I rather enjoyed it in a peverse sort of way.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 6 March 2003 12:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I think if a girly group rendition of sk8r boi was in the offing, we could get a rare appearance from Emma on the karaoke stage.

As she is at home ill, she cannot see me saying this, heh heh heh.

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 12:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Alang in laughing at Emma's illness shockah!

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 6 March 2003 12:42 (twenty-three years ago)

not fair. now go download the mp3s of that cornish farmer duo

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete - ah.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Thursday, 6 March 2003 13:37 (twenty-three years ago)

i want to see the nipper doing "sk8er boi" (actually i just want to see the nipper singing full stop, really).

i want another blizzard too! but only if pete's on hand to guide us home.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 6 March 2003 13:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I bloody don't.

chris (chris), Thursday, 6 March 2003 13:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Sure Elite came out much earlier than 1986?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 6 March 2003 13:53 (twenty-three years ago)

1984 I thought?

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 March 2003 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd guess it was even on the Spectrum by 1985.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 6 March 2003 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

1984. http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't get a computah til 1986. WOt fule am I?

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 6 March 2003 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

i once got an e-mail out the blue from ian bell (or was it braben). i had a link to some nestle boycott stuff and he thanked me for it. lovely. this was back when the www was new. oh yes, i remember the days, etc

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 6 March 2003 14:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to play ROGUE (Tom you may have gathered I have now borrowed yr copy of EDGE magazines retro feetcher).

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 6 March 2003 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha I left it out for that v purpose. Isabel says thankyou for the frog though she claims it is a toad. It has proved popular!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 March 2003 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been offline all day and now *this* has happened! It's looking dodgy, but I might be able to make it - the thought of another rendition of JtN's 'White Wedding' or anything like it is too good to miss!! And me and The Pinefox have unfinished bizness!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 6 March 2003 15:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom - I'm going to e-mail you something at ebros@netcomuk - I don't know yr work address. Watch out for it.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 6 March 2003 15:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not likely to see it until tonight so if it's urgent say and I'll mail you my work address.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 March 2003 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Tonight's OK. No panic!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 6 March 2003 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Do toads go "ribbet"? I shall bow to her superior fluffy toy knowledge! There is also a copy of EDGE magazine out called the GURLS issue and it has a computer lady in her pants on the cover. Cor. I would buy it but I can't get any money out of the cashpoint (all for the best I suppose).

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 6 March 2003 15:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Do not buy it I have it already and some of the pages even still open.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 March 2003 15:38 (twenty-three years ago)

'Previous Performance Rights' -- so *that*'s what you call it.

the pinefox, Thursday, 6 March 2003 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Toads ribbet, frogs squeal (like rabbits). Don't you know that, Sarah?

Graham (graham), Thursday, 6 March 2003 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

i am going to sing bat out of hell

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 March 2003 16:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I used to be interested in toads and things like that. I guess I've always been warped. I once worried my mom for ages by threatening to buy one of those giant ones... I was saving the money, but somehow I lost interest. Mom later told me she was incredibly relieved.

As far as I could ever tell, toads don't make that much noise. Weak little croaks occasionally.

BTW, there is an almost infallible way of sexing a toad. Does anyone know what it is? Hint: it doesn't even involve physical examination as such.

I know, this has got almost nothing to do with anything... sorry... I'm really quite bored.

ChristineSH, Thursday, 6 March 2003 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, I'm only singing if they have Cvalda

Rattle clang crack thud wack BANG!

Graham (graham), Thursday, 6 March 2003 18:34 (twenty-three years ago)

actually what time does the singing start? Have to leave by 11.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 March 2003 18:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm keen, and see no reason why I can't be there. Don't know about singing, but I'll think about it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 6 March 2003 18:50 (twenty-three years ago)

singing starts at 9? it was a bit late last time, but only cos of the snow.

there's no way in hell i'll be singing, anyway.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 6 March 2003 20:43 (twenty-three years ago)

don't worry gareth & tim, we can karaoke in nyc, whoo-heee (yells out of car)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 6 March 2003 21:13 (twenty-three years ago)

karaoking in NYC (as has been discussed before) is not PROPER as it involves sitting in a room with friends only rather than exposing yourself to good proper ridicule/praise from complete strangers.

i will obv be at pint pot :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 7 March 2003 09:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Do they have 'Shipbuilding'?

I think I'm off to see 'Daredevil' that evening but may pop in for a pint afterwards.

Andrew L (Andrew L), Friday, 7 March 2003 09:58 (twenty-three years ago)

''Do they have 'Shipbuilding'?''

heh...that would be good.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 7 March 2003 10:29 (twenty-three years ago)

NYC FAPK? OMG!

Tim (Tim), Friday, 7 March 2003 10:46 (twenty-three years ago)

nah nyc has both kinds, most prefer community karaoke. just i like authentic like anyway, have a lovely time london town xx

Mary (Mary), Friday, 7 March 2003 10:52 (twenty-three years ago)

i like the phrase "community karaoke", it makes it sound all fluffy :))

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 7 March 2003 11:03 (twenty-three years ago)

There is nothing fluffy about Pete doing The Voice.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 7 March 2003 11:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Though there will be singing, I will still be here. My rendition of After The Watershed will have to wait.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 7 March 2003 11:33 (twenty-three years ago)

mmmmmmmmmm, carter-oke...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Steve that happens anyway. It can happen tonight if you'd like.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

NOOOOOOooooo!!11!!

Tim (Tim), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

bump!

so, what shall i sing then?

(FYI previous occassions have included park life, common people, maggie may, tainted love and god save the queen to give you an idea of the sort of things i generally do)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

KLF- it Grim up north
Pet Shop Boys- It's a sin

Ed (dali), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I think you should do 'Raindrops keep falling on my head' for the full young Robert Redford vibe.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't come. World war III will be kicking off in our house as Chris tries to come to terms with Celtic beating his precious liverpool..

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:46 (twenty-three years ago)

dream on, you...... erm, .... I'll get me coat.

chris (chris), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Surely Liverpool have got you used to losing by now.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Not against Celtic

chris (chris), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sure it won't be that different a sensation to losing to - say - Birmingham.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:18 (twenty-three years ago)

carsmile you should sing My Way or Don't Leave Me This Way

jel -- (jel), Monday, 10 March 2003 17:36 (twenty-three years ago)

is this this week? i can't be arsed to read the whole thread as my cold has come back with a vengeance and i can barely see. damn my sinuses. damn my hectic lifestyle. damn my friends who make me stay awake for 42 hours and consume more drugs than anyone who is me should. damn my inability to say no. most of all damn all this fucking snot.

alix (alix), Monday, 10 March 2003 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

it's on thursday.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 10 March 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah ok. no singing tho

zemko (bob), Monday, 10 March 2003 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

bump!

hey it's tomorrow and eveything!!

what time are people turning up? i looking at about half 5, as per.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 11:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmmm, will probs turn up somewhat after 7, although I am scared of Lixi's drug-fuelled snotfest. Yecch. See you chaps tomorrow. I am contemplating 'Call Me' as well as 'Sk8r Boi', oh yes.

Carsmile, you shld def. do 'My Way'. Sinatra or Vicious, it's up to youhoo.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 11:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Battle of Britain takes precedence I'm afraid.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll rock up! But I don't think singing is at all a good idea.

And I WILL LEAVE at normal kicking out time, I will I will!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 11:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris - why not Battle Of Britain at nearby footbal;l showing pub (say the Marlborough Arms) then round the corner for the battle of tonsils. Yes?

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 11:52 (twenty-three years ago)

remember my views on karaoke Steve, plus there is a likelihodd of me or Vicky being in a foul mood. and money = tight.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 11:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yeah. But what are your views on MISTAKING ME FOR SOMEONE ELSE!

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 11:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Mistaking you for someone else is always a bonus, surely Pete?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 11:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Alright, maybe in my case its a plus point, with that bounty on my head. But in general its a dud

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 12:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris = merely overwrought in anticipation of humiliation, I guess. But I know nothing of the mental machinations of those tragic personages known as football fanatics.

What is the reward for your head, Pete? Call me Boba Fett D*plyn.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 12:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sorry Peter, my head is in a bit of a spin right now. I'm hoping there will be no humiliation on either side Liz, just a narrow but deserved win for Liverpool.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

**with that bounty on my head**

Surely it'll melt under the lights?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Not to mention the heat rising from the Baran bonce.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 12:23 (twenty-three years ago)

It is getting hot in herre.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 12:24 (twenty-three years ago)

it's conducted by the heavy bones you know. His skull could probably power a small town if harnessed properly.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 12:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Oi - don't you try and put a harness on me. I'm nobodies carthorse.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 12:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh heh, Pete the pit pony. Stop that, you'll go blind!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 12:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't fucking make it. Again. Alix, you have my sympathy re: the fucking snot.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Does Dr C still plan to attend this event?

If so, it's one and two and: "That's the way-AY-AY!"

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 13:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Should get there around half seven, Oxford Tube permitting.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 13:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Ditto - though mine is Abbas Kiarostami baiting permitting.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 13:25 (twenty-three years ago)

**Does Dr C still plan to attend this event?**

Despite the fact that I have been feeling shitty and old this week (chorus of 'but you ARE shitty and old, Dr. C!) I hope to make it at some point.

**If so, it's one and two and: "That's the way-AY-AY!"**

Oh no! I might do 'Have I The Right' though.

**

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 13:35 (twenty-three years ago)

A pint of what? BLOOOOOOD? I am so there if yer necks will be present. (heh!)

Bram Stokah (nathalie), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 13:35 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, in that case I might come along to make up for stuck in Hammersmith due to blizzard last time. Sadly Gail is gigging in Sheffield tomorrow, otherwise I would have asked her to come along and we could have done some trombone karaoke, e.g. Stool Pigeon or Ghost Town. Never mind...

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 13:41 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll be there. half sixish? anyone else going to be that early? i might make it a little later and have dinner first, though, in an effort to be in less pain come friday than last time.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

''Sadly Gail is gigging in Sheffield tomorrow, otherwise I would have asked her to come along and we could have done some trombone karaoke''

ha! THAT gail (is this the gig w/simon fell?) marcello...and I would've joined in with kurt schiwitters impression ;-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be there around 6-6.30. I'll have yr skullflower burn toby (finally!).

jel- are you turning up or shall i send the improv comp by post?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:04 (twenty-three years ago)

you'll have to wait in line julio, we're thinking of doing some dada-poetic polemic wotsits in the nearness of future (i.e. the group + me ranting/rambling up front). sort of amiri baraka doing sir henry at rawlinson end...

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

cheers julio. i'll try to burn you something (wd you like a copy of the kevin drumm?) this eve, but i may be a bit busy.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

..or sir marcello at chingford tor

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

toby- if you can do the rallizes stuff (or kevin drumm) that would be nice.

''we're thinking of doing some dada-poetic polemic wotsits in the nearness of future''

heh...I'll happily wait in line then.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:21 (twenty-three years ago)

i must do "rawlinson end" at FAP tomorrow.

"i knew she kept a snorkel in her handbag - but...would she use it?"

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:21 (twenty-three years ago)

James Chance, Kid Creole, Viv Stanshall... Marcello your faith in the breadth of the Pint Pot karaoke playlist is an example to us all!

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:27 (twenty-three years ago)

oh all right then. "imagine there'zz no heaven" etc etczzzzzzz......

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

James Chance, Kid Creole, Viv Stanshall... Marcello your faith in the breadth of the Pint Pot karaoke playlist is an example to us all!

Next you'll COMPLETELY ruin my night by telling us there's no Andrew WK.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I plan to get there pretty early. Given its distance from my place of work, I could be there by about 5.01, but I might grab a bite to eat so get there half an hour or so later.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

julio - I haven't made my mind up yet! Bring it along anyway! I'm 65% sure I'm gonna come along.

Where is the Pint Pot?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Have fun! I wish I could see Ptee in a harness , wahhhhh . . .

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

The Pint Pot is in the northern half of Tottenham Court Road - turn right out of Goodge Street, it's maybe 200 yards up on the other side of the road. Or just around the corner from my place of work (1 Torrington Place), hurrah.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 20:20 (twenty-three years ago)

not sure if I'm gonna make it now. But, Julio, if you wanna hang on to the tape 'til tom's birthday thing (which I'm definetely gonna go to) then that's cool, thanks!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 13 March 2003 08:59 (twenty-three years ago)

65% goes down to 10 % (higher or lower).

OK. I'll keep it until then.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 13 March 2003 12:25 (twenty-three years ago)

i've done you sheer hellish miasma, julio.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 13 March 2003 12:26 (twenty-three years ago)

yay! I've got your skullflower.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 13 March 2003 12:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm feeling rather early Madonna now ...

(although I am dressed like the glass goth today, so maybe I should pick something else?)

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 13 March 2003 12:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Glass goths!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 13 March 2003 13:08 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry can't now make it.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 13 March 2003 13:22 (twenty-three years ago)

That must be stained glass at least.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 13 March 2003 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Through a glass darkly.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 13 March 2003 13:27 (twenty-three years ago)

(Act. more likely to be glass of cider & black)

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 13 March 2003 13:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Eurodisco?

dave q, Thursday, 13 March 2003 13:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Ugh have checked finances and feeling like I shouldn't come now. But last time was GRATE! Waaaaaa. I might have to leave you all to it this time and go home and tidy and RESOLVE to have a new job by the next bloody day :)

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 13 March 2003 13:41 (twenty-three years ago)

You know you vont to, Starry, just look into my eyesss while I swing this fob watch around...

I think you should perform 'Independent Wimmin' by Destiny's Child. For starters. Mentalist Towers can be cleansed another time, but there are pints to be drunk!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 13 March 2003 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Starry I can lend you a few bob.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 13 March 2003 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

My room is approaching almost Ewing levels of destruction and IT MUST BE ABATED!

Maybe I'll go home first, drink some WHISKY and do some tidying and then come out!! Ja!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 13 March 2003 13:55 (twenty-three years ago)

dave turn up and sing some donna summer for us.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 13 March 2003 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I meant class. I just can't type today. I've written too much about National Pet Week.

*hangs head in shame*

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 13 March 2003 14:17 (twenty-three years ago)

**sorry can't now make it**

Sorry, Marcello it's compulsory! No blizzard this time. See you later then.

Starry and Toby - I have your CDs. Starry - you must come!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 13 March 2003 14:33 (twenty-three years ago)

dr c - i have read & burn 01/02 for you...

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 13 March 2003 14:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow!! Thanks Toby!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 13 March 2003 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Yep, I'll pop along but probably a little bit later... maybe about 8ish?

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 13 March 2003 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Well the party won't really start until I get there at 7:45 having proven by use of graph (!) and invective why Abbas Kiarostami is a lousy director and destroying the Iranian film industry.

(I don't expect to necessarily succeed at this).

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 13 March 2003 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

i intend to spend my WINNINGS on the horses on, erm, about half a bag of crisps...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I shall be there earlier than anticipated: I have been eating bananas all afternoon and don't feel like going out for food, so I'll go straight to the Pint Pot after work. I'll be there very soon after 5.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be along about 6.30ish. This decision was made after no end of dithering so I may as well jump in at the deep end and embrace the inevitable ruin tomorrow.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Exactly when Martin? You need to be more precise! 5.02? 5.07?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:03 (twenty-three years ago)

have a nice evening foax, don't sing anything g**r wouldn't like!!

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

5.30-6

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I am meeting friends after work now so will turn up late and half-cut. YAY!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I will not be there, I have an appointment with a pork stew and oblivion.

chris (chris), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I am now trying to remember what people sang.

Pete sang "Hazard". That was a bad idea. Pete also sang "That's What I Go To School For" which was terrific.

Matt DC did "Sweet Child Of Mine" which was good except they cut it off.

Liz did a Blondie song. Anna did "Holiday" by Madonna.

Steve did "Common People" and something else.

I did "Embarrassment" by Madness and "I Like To Move It" by Reel 2 Reel feat. Mad Stuntman. The latter involved a £5 bribe. It went quite well.

We shall not speak of 'ILX Juniors'. Also the song lists were not laminated leading to pencil abuse from certain ilxors who should know better.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 14 March 2003 01:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Bad head this morning. Very bad head. Will post later. Need drugs.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 14 March 2003 07:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I LIKE TO MOVE IT MOVE IT! I LIKE TO MOVE IT MOVE IT!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 March 2003 09:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I feel very unhappy about being ROBBED of the "Where do you go now?" bit. I'd been saving myself for that.

(Yes I'm aware this was probably a mercy).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 March 2003 09:25 (twenty-three years ago)

rah, you roX0red matt :)

my other one was love cats (with added one minute man bits), pete did a third song, right at the beginning of the evening.

alang did (i just) died in your arms tonite and something else

liz's song was "corned beef" by blondie

i'm glad i left before ilx juniors...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 14 March 2003 09:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete did Highly Strung by Spandau Ballet. Liz did Call Me. Alan also did Just a Little by Liberty X but claimed he was struggling with the register. ha ha. I don't feel very well today. But it was a good 'un.

Emma, Friday, 14 March 2003 09:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Yarrgh ruin.

Actually not too bad, just slightly dazed from not enough sleep, mild furry tongue thing going on. But I forgot to set the video recorder before coming out, and I’m off to Portsmouth for the weekend! Damn.

Also damn the poxy new karaoke man at the Pint Pot, who doesn’t even have ‘Sk8r Boi’, just ‘Complicated’, which is rub. And he spent his Christmas Eve last year printing out his song catalogue (filename etc. in footer of pages) so he is officially supersad. Like, get with the PROgramme, dude!

Still, a good night, although ‘What I Go To School For’ as performed by Ptee gave me the ph34r, and my convenient nite bus journey home was marred by two blokes drunkenly discussing some international sports tournament they’re setting up. Ping pong? Air hockey? I didn’t quite gather.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 14 March 2003 09:41 (twenty-three years ago)

\m/

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 March 2003 09:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm so tired. So, so tired. Liz, how did you extract that information from the karaoke man?

The journey home was ... interesting. I have no volume control. A pair of complete wankers were abusing the tube carriage. They left with a shut of
"You're all wankers"
Me: "Hypocrites!"
[Feel Toby tense up]
Me: "Well, they are. I resent being called a wanker by a twat who probably buys Coldplay records!"
Toby: [tensely] Yes...
Me: [trying and failing to be quieter] Sorry. am I embarrassing you on public transport again?

[laughter from rest of tube]

Anna (Anna), Friday, 14 March 2003 09:52 (twenty-three years ago)

DUDE!

Haha if that worked it was my first html thing on ILE.

Anna, the date printed was in the footer to all the sheets in the song catalogue. And I would also like to take this opportunity to dis' the karaoke man's binding skeelz. Shoddy work.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 14 March 2003 09:54 (twenty-three years ago)

i had fun (despite dodgy vocal skillXoR). the punctuation on the "(i just) died in your arms" lyrics was terrible: sit's. THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO USE APOSTROPHES ;-)

Alan (Alan), Friday, 14 March 2003 09:59 (twenty-three years ago)

He he he he he tempo fidelis as Ted Heath used to say to his Orchestra of Note in Palace of Popular Poplar now then my young friend such ne'er-do-well rapscallions caught winking in the tube carriage would have received short shrift from me when I was in midst of my staunch stint as an Angel Guardian with handy red caps though made me look like socialist Duncan Iain Smith socialist nonetheless I was embroiled in similar scamping in 1988 d'you know that was 2002 in old money and anyway we were proceeding to Acting Town where I prepared to daintily disembark and sashay up Saxons Drive but not afore some wily winkers dared to draw across my crossbow with words of impertinent insult and I was not prepared to stand for such impish impotence even though I was in erect position viz standing nonetheless I quod now then you woebegone winkers you must desist from overt naughtiness inst else face my fiery ire and do you know they were very good listeners very tolerant of the Voice Of Reason Robert Wyatt in News On The World and were very careful when kicking me to ground not to fracture skull which I thought most considerate only 79 stitches double figures still the shapely doctors raised brow of eyes and instructed me to guard angels no longer as was unfitting like deerstalkers in Dunn & Co of old.

Wally Klemmer, Friday, 14 March 2003 10:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I would like to diss the karaoke man's selection skillz as he let 2 separate bunches of blokes do Wonderwall. Wondersnore more like.

ha ha Anna I also get in trouble on public transport for being, er, assertive.

Emma, Friday, 14 March 2003 10:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Wally Klemmer was my favourite Marcello character :)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 March 2003 10:10 (twenty-three years ago)

hahaha!! anna grebt post.

I did attend but I had to go at 10 unfortunately.

I enjoyed steve singing common ppl...him just holding his fag (looking cool or at least trying) and then, just as the song is abt to end (30 seconds say) he is looking for an ashtray and then the guy who is running the jukebox takes it out for him. that was funny.

nice meeting bob zemko.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 14 March 2003 10:10 (twenty-three years ago)

ha! the rob wyatt mention is the thing that gives it away.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 14 March 2003 10:12 (twenty-three years ago)

My journey home - two american blokes, business types were sitting next to me discussing the Iraq thing. They then asked me if I knew why the train was delayed. Then :

Me : Do you mind me asking this? Is American public opinion in favour of Bush's approach.

Yank 1 : I'd rather not comment.

Yank 2 : Me neither.

Me : I just wondered if, since war looks likely, public opinion was shifting either for or against.

Yank 1 (rudely) : I won't answer that.

Yank 2 : Leave us alone!

Me : Alright, sorry. I wasn't asking if YOU were in favour. I said was public opinion in favour. Sorry, anyway.

Brit in Suit : Stop hassling these guys.

Aussie in Suit (under breath) Fucking lefty.

Me to Aussie : I beg your pardon?

Aussie : Nothing mate. (pause) fucking lefty.

Me : I wasn't talking to you, I simply asked these guys if public opinion in the USA was in favour of war or not. You're assuming I'm a lefty, as you put it. On what basis?

Aussie : Do you eat meat, mate? I bet you're some kind of animal rights activist too.

It degenerated into a slanging match from there I'm afraid. I feel pretty dispirited.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 14 March 2003 10:46 (twenty-three years ago)

ah, that's terrible Dr C.

pity that its tough to have a rational discussion on Iraq.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 14 March 2003 10:50 (twenty-three years ago)

:-( sorry to hear that dr c. it was really nice to talk to you last night (and to hear your opinions on sweet child of mine, ha). and thanks for the cd - i'm going to listen to it later.

a good evening all round, i thought - sorry i didn't get to talk to zemko more, i was a bit drunk and the karaoke had got going, so the gutter garridge part of my brain had shut down.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 14 March 2003 10:51 (twenty-three years ago)

This is why I only ever use the bus.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 14 March 2003 10:53 (twenty-three years ago)

"Her voice is echoed in my mind
I count the days till she is mine
Can’t tell my friends cos they will laugh
I love a member of the staff

I fight my way to front of class
To get the best view of her ass
I drop a pencil on the floor
She bends down and shows me more….

That’s what I go to school for
Even though it is a real bore
You can call me crazy
I know that she craves me
That’s what I go to school for
Even though it is a real bore
Girlfriends I’ve had plenty
None like Miss Mackenzie
That’s what I go to school for
That’s what I go to school for

So she may be thirty-three
But that doesn’t bother me
Her boyfriends working out of town
I find a reason to go round

I climb a tree outside her home
To make sure she is all alone
I see her in her underwear
I can’t help but stop and stare

Everyone that u teach all day knows your looking at me in a different way
I guess thats why my marks are getting so high
I can see those tell tale signs telling me that I was on your mind
I could see that you want it more when you told me that I’m what you go to school for
I’m what you go to school for

She’s packed her bag its in the trunk
Looks like she’s picked herself a hunk
We drive past school to say goodbye
My friends they can’t believe their eyes."

Pete (Pete), Friday, 14 March 2003 10:55 (twenty-three years ago)

heh...looking back the one bit (of many) that I liked abt the FAP was seeing Tom's face when I asked abt G**r H***ro.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 14 March 2003 10:56 (twenty-three years ago)

good one pete. that could be what the good doctor needs.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 14 March 2003 10:57 (twenty-three years ago)

PTee's TWIGTSF was ace - and a grebt mass ILX chorus. I enjoyed Alang's 'I just Died...', Anna's 'Holiday' was majestic, and Matt's 'Sweet Child...' was even more ROCK than Stevie T's 'White Wedding' at the last FAK.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 14 March 2003 11:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Gah!! Sorry I missed it but lack of cash was U&K and I had a meeting this morning which meant I had to be alert even more than I usually am and ruin would have NOT been a good IDEA.

I do however think that searching out old karaoke man's next venture is a good idea.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 14 March 2003 11:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete might know as I saw some bloke sidle up to him and slip him a piece of paper with some karaoke related website on it. And his phone number. ha ha.

Things I have learned from karaoke: S Club Juniors probably don't smoke as singing Automatic High & smoking at the same time is v. difficult.

Emma, Friday, 14 March 2003 11:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah - I gave yr CD to Lixi.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 14 March 2003 11:47 (twenty-three years ago)

mm thanks all. nice to put some faces to names, see what y'all workin' with

("uh oh, flock of seagulls" hahaha)

zemko (bob), Friday, 14 March 2003 13:34 (twenty-three years ago)

i understand this was the website...

no sign of any pics from last nite yet.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 14 March 2003 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Cheers Rocktor C! Tom told me she had it this morning, I shall give it a listen tonight before I run from the house screaming to avoid the horror of COMIC RELIEF.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 14 March 2003 14:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Dr. C.'s tube conversation hurts my head. I do like how the Americans were both weird and defensive when confronted with an idea they hadn't thought of, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 March 2003 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I will just add that I was there first and stayed to the end. No one seems to have noticed me :(

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 14 March 2003 18:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe they were just shocked by a stranger on the subway asking them multiple questions even after they brushed off the first query.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 14 March 2003 19:14 (twenty-three years ago)

We noticed you Martin, you were doing a sterling job of guarding the coats. (This sounds very bad in retrospect - note toself to make it up to Martin next time).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 14 March 2003 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, I don't want to sound peevish - the reason I hardly got a mention is that I took no part in the singing, and that has obviously been what people are talking about. This is partly because I'm a really awful singer, and partly because my throat felt a bit rough, possibly because it's a fairly noisy pub and that meant that I had been shouting at people for several hours before the karaoke started up. (Also I had eaten six bananas that afternoon, and that had made my throat feel odd - fruit is clearly bad for you.)

This all sounds like a weak excuse not to join in, and there is a bit of that - if I'm going to make a complete fool of myself by singing appallingly badly, I'd at least like it not to be physically painful too.

I saw myself less as guarding coats, and more guarding bags and a valuable laptop! But I didn't stay there all the time, and was only left alone a couple of times, and briefly. That was no problem at all.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 14 March 2003 21:25 (twenty-three years ago)

there is a couple of photos on karaokeinfo now (see link above), only one of an ilX0r though (it's the thread called "pint pot", obv.)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 17 March 2003 16:27 (twenty-three years ago)

"There was some great songs being sung, such as Back in the USSR, Living on A Prayer, 500 Miles and Sweet Child of Mine. They were all sung with plenty of vigour."

"Plenty of vigour". RAH!

If I was the ilX0r in that photo I would be slightly worried about the comments below.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 10:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, yes I am. (And it's a fucking awful picture too. Note to ILx0rs who've not met me - I don't really look like that)

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 11:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to go look now, but for some reason I can't seem to get any photos to download at all at work. (I blame Hstencil, obv.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I have seen. eek.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Anna - you look fantastic in that picture, nothing to worry about! Maybe a little bit more 'rock' than usual, perhaps?

What if the site had sound clips?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I was concerned about the 'KJ'.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes Anna, you look fine. As Dr C says, a bit more rock than usual, but that's not so bad.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I think Martin S does an important job, guarding stuff in the boozer while others are away. I'm serious.

the pinefox, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 18:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Are there ever FAPs in Old Europe?

Skottie, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 19:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth and Colin had one in Cologne I think.

I'll be in Paris, Perpignan, and Barcelona come June.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 20:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks!

Skottie, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 00:58 (twenty-three years ago)

This was back in the days you were too scared to come out to FAPs.
