What's the theme? What's the song? What are you wearing? WHO IS YOUR DATE?

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

(Hey, who spike the punch???)

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

(er, spikeD)

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Never had a date to the prom so I'll continue this tradition here. God knows what I am wearing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I want a date. I'll be wearing my special prom robe. I have robes for eveything. And I will carry a cane, pete nice style.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

:( nedipoo.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

and I want to pull a Trip Fontaine with my date and drink Schnappies under the bleachers.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

convince me not to go and play pool instead.

and promise you won't dump me for some [what was it?] COOOOOOOOOOL upperclassman.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going in stone washed denim and my song is Dance The Night Away by Van Halen.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

And I fully expect to indulge in some "heavy petting" afterwards in my parents car.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm requesting ironic 80's songs and everyone hates it!

Jon Williams (ex machina), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

well, we'll see.

I think I'm gonna have to fight geeta and Jody Beth over who gets to take dave q.

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh! I hope my bf asks me! (but then, he doesn't like to dance in public :( ). Ok, if he doesn't come with me, I'll go alone! I want a dress with lots and lots of see-through layers.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

uh, kate, uh, well, um, how do I say this? uh, like, will you go with me, uh, to, um, the ILX prom?

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

*stands in corner, shuffles feet*

mark twee (Mark P), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

we all know that i gots the mad running man skills I don't need no stinkin date to get my groove on. I can pet myself afterwards, its no big deal. I also want "Rock Wit'cha" as my song.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah, will you go to the prom with me? I will dance, but only the slow dances, and only if there's lots of other people on the dance floor. I got you this corsage, which my mom helped me pick out.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I think rosemary really wants to know who's going to be using the Position MasterTM after the problem.

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

*blushing*

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't need a date, as he would just spend more time peering in the mirror than I. Hmm, what I'd wear? A slinky, short silver dress. As for my theme, "She" by Suede comes to mind.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going to tell my parents I am going so they'll get off my case, stupid parents, they have no idea how lame prom is, seriously.

Mandee, Friday, 28 March 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

:(

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Unless Jess wants to go with me.

Mandee, Friday, 28 March 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

What's the theme?

"A Webbernet Mentalist Night to Remember"

What's the song?

Surely it's gotta be "I Wanna Sex You Up".

What are you wearing?

http://www.backwardglances.com/images/leisure%20suit.jpg

WHO IS YOUR DATE?

In the grand tradition of my previous prom experiences, I will ask a series of 3-6 ladies who will either say yes but then through a wicked turn of events not be able to attend (such as "she must work at a derby party that night waiting on famous people like the Judds and the Clooneys" or "her mom won't let her go 'cause she's only 16 and I'm 18 and WTF?" etc), or just flat out say no, and come the night of the prom when my only option left is to stay home and write bitter angry songs about why life sucks, when suddenly the girl I really wanted to go with in the first place has a fite with her lame-o why's-she-with-him-anyway?-boyfriend and calls me all like "PLEASE??" and I'm all like "I'll be there in 5."

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

nickalicious has the best shirt ever!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Wrong, the song is either "November Rain" or "Stairway to Heaven," because it has to be incredibly long and awkward and have a tempo change that makes it impossible to dance to.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I vote for November Rain. But can Dieing in your Arms Tonight be played at some point?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

suddenly the girl I really wanted to go with in the first place has a fite with her lame-o why's-she-with-him-anyway?-boyfriend

Of course, this is my role at the ILx prom.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Other than nick getting his heart broken, Derby parties rule. Hey nick, do you know if it was the big Friday night charity thing in Louisville at one of the old Doublemint twinz's house? I forget what it's called, but that's the big celeb gala thingy, my parents live about a block away and it's crazy every year.

Yes, I never went to the prom.

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh now I remember, it's called the Barnstable party.

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Proms are great! I will ask my date to go with me over email. I will ask the DJ to play "Blue Monday." I'm wearing a forest green vest and a huge white carnation.

Amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

The first thing I thought when I saw this thread was "Dammit, why can't it be one of those Sadie Hawkins proms, where the girls ask the boys, so I can ask hstencil if he'll be my date..."

WWHHHEEEEEEEE!!! ::runs round ILX and tells all the girls that hstencil asked me to the prom!!!::

We'll be the annoying couple who get drunk and feel each other up on the dance floor during the slow songs! tee hee hee!

kate, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

REAL prom suXXX. And not in a pleasant way as my triple Xs might suggest. My junior year I went with the shortest guy in the grade and he was so embarassed that he never gave me copies of the pix his parents took of us in front of their rose garden. My senior year none of my senior girl friends allowed to go because they didn't have dates and it wouldn't be proper. I went stag with a bunch of juniors. We rode around in a nice convertible and went bowling. But the dance itself was dumb.

But ILX prom is the best ever!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

ME AND MY DATE

"THE GUYS"

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

:-)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh jeez, maybe I'll need the Position MasterTM.

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, you're taking a pregnant chick to the prom!?!

Nick A. (Nick A.), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

the Barnstable party

That's the one hstencil. I remember asking her like thirty times "well, can you just take me to that then?".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

this is when being a "charming asshole" for the previous 9 months backfires on you

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Nowt wrong with pregnant girls!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick - the Barnstable party is a $500-a-plate charity thingy. I think the only way you or I could get in is if we were the help (and my parents live in that neighborhood!).

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

oh wait - i thought this was for ILX pr0n.

nevermind, i'm out.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

serious! you bitches don't say anything like "ooh, we'll twitter at your witty, urbane, snotty commentary all year only to dump your ass for the well-groomed pretty boy the first chance i get." man, fuck a prom.

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

jess you could go with anthony but i'm pretty sure he'd expect you to put out

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I wouldn't care to speculate, because I would end up getting dumped at the last minute and end up not going -- all of my plans in vain.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like an Austen-themed prom.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this was where we got to live out our fantasies of how we *wish* the prom had gone, instead of reliving the nightmares of how it really did!

::stamps feet::

In a perfect world, the boy I had a crush on *would* have asked me to the prom, I would have run round and told all my friends, he would have got shouted at by my mum (but we would have ignored her) and we would have got drunk and snogged on the dancefloor and got back well after midnight to have my father put the dogs on the poor boy. (Sorry, hstencil!)

kate, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

put the dogs? You mean in a "release the hounds" kinda way? I better have my runnin' shoez on!

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to my prom with a charming asshole with whom I was quite smitten. He ended up being more asshole than charming though in the end.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

They always are.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. A very protective and fierce dalmation, I'm afraid. My father did actually once do this to one of my suitors! So, erm, I'm sorry for the toothmarks on your shins, but erm, a beer and a half in the back of your chevy, and I probably would put out... ;-)

kate, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd rather push a Ford than drive a Chevy!

(I drove a Ford Thunderbird in high school.)

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha..my little dog was very protective too...he wouldn't bite, but would just bark and jump up until any affection ceased. My high school boyfriend was not very fond of him.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

assholes of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but getting laid (which you probably werent anyway)

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

what's with all the animosity, jess?

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

He wanted to go with me but I said I was going to go with nickalicious and now they have to FITE.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, we'll have fuzz, fuzz, fuzz till yer daddy takes the T-bird away, then!

kate, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this was where we got to live out our fantasies of how we *wish* the prom had gone, instead of reliving the nightmares of how it really did!

Excellent idea!

Okay, so when I ask my crush to go with me, she blushes and is all like "WELL DUH!" and I'm like "wha?" and then she kisses me on the cheek and runs off giggling like a school-girl (which she is). I pick her up and her hippie parents are all like "Have a good time man! Take care of our little girl! Have her home by sunrise, that would be cool! Don't forget to wear a rubber!" and we both blush ('cause we're like 16 and haven't had sex yet pervs!). We go and get there and of course she looks gorgeous and all the boys and girls who made fun of me are there with total dogs and are sitting around not enjoying themselves and looking at us all like "wow she cleans up NOICE! What does she see in that Nick tard anyway?" And we dance fast to fun songs and dance really close together to slow songs and we leave early 'cause it's really quite lame, especially when the drunken sports-boys get the DJ to play "Fight for Your Right", and we go to the top of this big hill in this park and sit under a tree and talk and laugh and kiss and for a few brief hours all is beautiful and right with the world.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

He wanted to go with me but I said I was going to go with nickalicious and now they have to FITE.

It's not a real prom until two dudes get into it over the woman they both love.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Oddly enough, the T-bird is one of the few cars I've owned that I never had sex in.

(TOO MUCH INFORMATION, SORRY!)

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Wrong, the song is either "November Rain" or "Stairway to Heaven," because it has to be incredibly long and awkward and have a tempo change that makes it impossible to dance to.

And they're both in A minor!

My prom theme was "Stairway To Heaven" and my mom wouldn't let me wear combat boots with my dress so I look really plain and sweet but my boyfriend shaved half his head. I should've done the same but that would be too cute. Man, I wish I had that picture.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

"stairway to heaven" is a great prom theme, but not as good as "tainted love"

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Tainted Love is perfect.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I think my actual senior prom's theme was Boyz-II-Men's "End of the Road", making us one of a GAZILLION BILLION American high schools to use that as a prom theme.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I wuz so cool cuz I went to the prom my freshman year of high school with a JUNIOR! (yeah, she wuz cross-eyed and kinda dumb, but STILL!!!)

& our theme was "wonderful tonite!" thanx eric!!!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The only thing I went to that was kinda like a prom was a dance (in the Rathskellar of the Seelbach Hotel in Louisville) after my eighth grade "graduation." I got to dance to a Depeche Mode (slow once, can't remember the title, starts "I want somebody to share...") song with the girl I had a crush on for the two years previous. Other than that, it was pretty negligible.

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

what's with all the animosity, jess?

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/dayart/20021101/226carrie.jpg

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to prom freshman, sophomore, and senior years, but it's because during my fresh and soph years, I was at a really small high school, so basically all high school kids were allowed to go. 'Twas always lame.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I left high school before proms.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

My prom theme (eww) was 'We've Got Tonight'--the Bob Seger, not the Kenny Rogers. Yeah. In junior high I remember all the dances ending with either 'Faithfully' or 'Open Arms' followed by 'Purple Rain.' We would rather have been weekend lovers than friends, tho

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't go to my prom. I don't remember what I did instead. I was at the point in my high school "career" where it barely even registered with me that there was a prom at all.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't remember the theme of my senior prom (which is probably for the best). And I went solo, because I didn't know any guys (I wen't to an all-girls school). (I was so socially backwards in those days that, at the prom, when someone else's date started chatting me up I was bewildered as to why he was doing that.)

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I left high school before proms.

And now you make more than most of us combined! GRRR!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

skipped prom, instead moving to san diego, california.

who i'd ask to ILX prom (in alphabetical order):

felicity (we can talk pitchers who can hit... did you see russ ortiz' monster home run a few days ago!?!?!?!)
JuliaA (my fellow scrabble-fiend)
lauren (we can bore each other senseless with our casiotone obsession)

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Would someone post an intelligent sociological analysis of the reasons for the prom/no-prom divide between the US and UK?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

americans fuck slugs. we don't.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

UK = better music, hate fun/sex QED

mark s (mark s), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Did Jess post a picture of a Barbie doll as Carrie?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

N.: we rule, the UK suxxxxx.

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

its true you know. we have free improv, the americans have free jazz.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

(ans to mark's post)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

My prom theme was Casablanca. My date was the french exchange student who felt sorry for me. The theme song was "All my life" by
K-CI and JOJO (at the time I LUVED THIS SONG). I looked fat and pathetic and didn't wear a real prom dress because i didn't want to wear a sleeveless dress.

Mandee, Friday, 28 March 2003 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Where are all the Mopar lovin' ladies in this bitch?

oh yeah, prom theme is Culture Club's "Time (Clock of the Heart)"

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

So who is going to rent a hotel room and GO ALL THE WAY???

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Mandee, do you want to ride in the limo that I am renting?

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck all the way. I just want a blow job in the bathroom. Any takers?

Oh, and I bet I can make the lamest girl here prom queen. Any takers?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

all the way to Chicago? It's a bit far don't ya think?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd have made a lousy prom date. From what I understand of prom at the last high school I went to, it was something of a debacle, as my friend Louis somehow managed to convince people his band should play, and then they showed up and did Face to Face and Screeching Weasel covers all night. I drove to Grand Rapids to pick my brother up from the airport and then my band played later that night.

These days I would make a much better prom date. There are a great number of ILX women I would gleefully ask to accompany me, enough so that I can't make a list because each of them are special enough to get called out individually. Awww.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

but but but Nabisco you are the Promqueen!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck yeah, Rosemary. Can we stand through the sunroof and shriek at passer-byers?

Mandee, Friday, 28 March 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool, you wanna flash the other cars?

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah! And I wanna egg someone, too! Prom 2003 is gonna rule!

Mandee, Friday, 28 March 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

whatever you do, do NOT yell out the limo window. yelling out the limo sunroof is okay, but not the window. james blount will attest to this.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 28 March 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Holy geez, Jel, I nearly forgot:

I AM JOHNNY PROMQUEEN!

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 28 March 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

What if we flash our tits from the window? Is that bad or good?

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 28 March 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

oh god let's not get into this again.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 28 March 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

you have to ask?

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

:-D

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 28 March 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I nominate Scott Woods to DJ and play obscure Canadian songs, screw this band thing. And I'll get the jump on all of the other guys asking Kim to the ILxPRomOR FIRST!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 28 March 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw titties. I blame hstencil.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 28 March 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

proms do make me horny though when you realize how many people are GETTING SOME that night

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

some schools in England have a prom. Mine did, but it was just an excuse for a opiss-up which featured my school and the girls school from the oother side of town. There weren't dates as such but there was a hella lot of snogging.

chris (chris), Friday, 28 March 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you all dress up, have dates, hire limos and stuff?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 28 March 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 28 March 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray, I am going to the ILX prom with my dream date, gygax! "Occupation: FASHION" Let's see, I need to study up on my good-hitting pitchers.

Where are all the Mopar lovin' ladies in this bitch?

Taken, but only just, zaxxon.

Oh, so now jess likes the Vice mag?

felicity (felicity), Friday, 28 March 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Ours was a black tie affair that ended up in a big mess, SP ended up shagging his girlfriend under one of the dinner tables while everyone was dancing, MP broke a toilet, PD passed out and I snogged 5 girls, none of whom was the one I actualy wanted to. NO limos from what I remember, but each school had a prom committee full of wankers

chris (chris), Friday, 28 March 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoa. Chris's prom sounds way more like what mine should have been like.

Mandee, Friday, 28 March 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't believe Mark called Jess on that before I got a chance!

I am having the same love/hate thing with Vice as before: boo hiss I hate you but I will still laugh and admire the record reviews.

I like K48, too -- it's like Vice's cute and polite teenage cousin, plus it's perfect-bound and more likely to include a CD.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 28 March 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I wore my best friend's dress to my junior prom - gave it back to her and she just recently sent it to me because she found it at her parents' house and didn't want to chuck it. It's purple and black and quite fantastic... in a 1989 kinda way.

I haven't got a date yet - anyone wanna go and get high with me in the parking lot?

luna (luna.c), Friday, 28 March 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

yes.

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone want to take me to the prom? I haven't been to a school-sponsored dance since seventh-grade - I can lip-synch to Madonna's early hits, if you like. Oh, and I get to lead on the dance floor. No arguments.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 28 March 2003 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i still hate vice. plz read the thread more carefully next time.

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

And yet you read it.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

we do not do because we can; we do it because we are compelled

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you also compelled to give PR?

felicity (felicity), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

i might be compelled to start putting my boot up asses inna few

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Catfight at the prom!

Nick A. (Nick A.), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

fite in the parking lot! FITE!

luna (luna.c), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

not at the same time, i figure one persom would say yes.
jess, can we cuddle ?

anthony easton (anthony), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

My prom was probably the single worst moment of my life to date--I wrote a letter about it to a friend of mine who read it to EVERYBODY on a large bus full of people going to the International Mathematics Olympiad. For well over a decade after that, she introduced me to math-world people as "This is Douglas. He's the guy who wrote the prom letter."

Douglas (Douglas), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

don't ruffle my dress you brute

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

also, I think our theme should be the Outhere Brothers.

Douglas (Douglas), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

the blinding obviousness of this choice and the fact that it was overlookd for so long pains me

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

we should just get dj assault to play

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I would be the loser who shows up on acid with some townies.

Samson, Friday, 28 March 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll take you laura. no arguments. but only if there is some trampling at the end of the night. ;D

kephm, Friday, 28 March 2003 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I would strip down to my underwear and run around the gym like Robert Downey Jr in 1969.

Samson, Friday, 28 March 2003 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going to stay home and listen to nin records.

bnw (bnw), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i never went to my prom. no thankyou.
i went and saw??? some band..i think ride on prom night.

kephm, Friday, 28 March 2003 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

BNW would sell me the acid. I would go around to his parents and hang out in their wood panelled rec room. We would probably drop it there.

Samson, Friday, 28 March 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i keep reading this thread title as "ilx porn"

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

(nb: during my "real" prom i actually drove around drinking whisky and listening to damaged.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray! I imagined I would be one of the people who couldn't get a date at all! Now unless Mark or someone beats me to it, I might get to go with Anthony! Hooray!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

jess you're so badass

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I was supposed to go but actually *did* do acid in a wood panelled rec room. This tiny fella' by the name of Tim took my best friend's girlfriend. He tried to have sex with her at the prom. But she said no and explained the concept of the pity date.

Sonny, Friday, 28 March 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

for all of you health and safety nuts, i wasn't the one doing the driving

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I would be the loser who shows up on acid with some townies.

I would be the wallflower who has an unhealthy curiousity about drugs and booze, but because I look so prim and well-behaved no one who is holding would even think of offering me any.
:^P

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Tony and I would have got you loaded for the Prom. You would have just asked. And in three month you would have been a glorified townie pothead listening to Damo Suzuki and getting high in trashy apartment. Hooray for youth!

I think I ended up on Prom Night, Night, on some riverbank smoking hashish with a bunch of travelling Grateful Dead folk.

j.lu would you have been the girl secretly loving up psychedelic music? I knew a girl like that. Coolest taste but you would not have known it! I think she ended up writing a Buffy The Vampire Slayer book!

Sonny, Friday, 28 March 2003 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Graham (graham), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

But who would be that mystical couple to die in a drunk driving accident on Prom Night?

Sonny, Friday, 28 March 2003 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The theme would be Paper Mache. The song would have been umm - We Built This City on Rock and Roll. I would be wearing a dirty black t-shirt which would be a bit of a hassle at the Prom. And eventually, either me or a friend would pass out in the gym.

Sonny, Friday, 28 March 2003 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

proms are for pussies. bunch of us are goin over to the 7-11 parking lot to drink slurpees and listen to foghat.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

But who would be that mystical couple to die in a drunk driving accident on Prom Night?

That would be me and Dave Q, and our swan song would be "Don't Fear the Reaper."

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you, kephm. You may pick me up at 9:00 PM - be prompt.
Make certain your cummerbund matches my earrings.
Bring S**'s chocolate truffles.
An orchid would be accepted.
As would several orchids.

I will gladly do some trampling after the festivites, but not in heels (if I can't walk in the damn things on flat ground, you do not want to see the results if I try to walk in them on a supine body. Trust me on this one. Really.).

But a massage will be required after said trampling. Kindly enroll in massage school in anticipation of said event.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Good choice. Who would do the bad poem in the yearbook?

I'm out of here. Off to review the Libertines. Sadly I really don't think I've changed much since Prom. : - P

(Ms Laura is a high maintenance date. Yikes)

Sonny, Friday, 28 March 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

sheer misery. utter. the dj had tapes. TAPES.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

She said she wasn't going but really she just wanted to die with him. Noooo.

Graham (graham), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Graham (graham), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I know, it would be a compilation Burroughs cut up of all the strange notes in Dave Q's locker. Jess would do it. Whilst crying: DAVE Q WOULD HAVE WANTED IT THAT WAY. (Possibly listening to Europe's The Final Countdown during the writing).

Sonny, Friday, 28 March 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

At the school assembly Jess would play the Rocky Theme and possibly raise a sad fist to a huge portrait of Dave Q and JBR.

Sonny, Friday, 28 March 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll move back to the Prom. Though I will mourn the loss of Dave Q and JDB.

Sonny, Friday, 28 March 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I wouldn't care to speculate, because I would end up getting dumped at the last minute and end up not going -- all of my plans in vain.

I scrolled this quickly and I thought it said that Nicole would have got dumped in the van on the way to the prom. (!!!)

Sonny, Friday, 28 March 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, was there a prom? Hunh. Well, not like anyone was asking me anyways...

Chris P (Chris P), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

(Ms Laura is a high maintenance date. Yikes)

You expect anything less from me, Sonny? *grin*

Actually, you should ALL be thankful you do not have to support my book habit - it's now averaging a little over $600.00 a month, when I look back for a 12-month period. Embarassing. I need to get to some used bookstores, FAST.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

luna (luna.c), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

And a bunch of us are going to the lake after - y'all wanna come?

luna (luna.c), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I wrote a letter about it to a friend of mine who read it to EVERYBODY on a large bus full of people going to the International Mathematics Olympiad.

The solution to this is to stop caring about what a bus full of people going to the INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD think of your prom exploits.

(Yes, I'm one of those nerds who looks down on geeks.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, luna, thank you! How did I ever make it so long without knowing about that site - many, many thanks! (I am off to make some purchases! Woo-hoo!) (And if the invitation was directed toward me, I'd love to go to the lake after. Kephm will need to remember towels and such.)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

The only think I don't like about it is that you pay separate shipping on everything you buy, but fuck, I just bought what would have been $125 worth of books for $31.04, including shipping.

As far as the lake, come one, come all!

luna (luna.c), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Choir nerds vs. Math nerds FITE!

hstencil, Friday, 28 March 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

JuliaA (j_bdules), Friday, 28 March 2003 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

brg30 (brg30), Friday, 28 March 2003 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Choir nerds vs. Math nerds FITE!

Choir nerds are way more annoying. They deserve all the abuse they get. I wish I wasn't one.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 29 March 2003 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

So at my prom, we left early at went to see The Kinks with Joan Jett opening at the Palladium (this was 1983). They're both a little older now, but I see no reason to do anything different...

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Saturday, 29 March 2003 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, you know we don't do that prom thing over here, and I've already promised myself to Sundar anyhow (in a prom situation) BUT:
Date: Jess, JBR, S-Rah, Tim F
Theme: Wood Beez, Schizophrenia, 30 Seconds Over Tokyo, Second Language
Wearing: either my neu(ish) corduroy suit, white shirt, black tie (NOT bow), silver cufflinks, or my old satin mini dress, high strappy heels, and opera length gloves (all black of course) (though I'd have to be 18 again [and 3 stone lighter than I am now] to carry the latter off like I used to)

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 29 March 2003 01:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck this shit. I'm gonna sneak into the Salty Dog with my fag hag next-door-neighbor and get nice old career navy guys to buy me drinks. Maybe they'll play some Blondie. Anybody wanna come?

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 29 March 2003 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

hey how many ppl here have claimed mark s? hands off he's MINE!!

Graham (graham), Saturday, 29 March 2003 01:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Great, Geeta! Sometimes if I really butter him up, the Salty Dog DJ even plays Bowie!!! It's wild! Nobody dances but me and my fag hag next door neighbor!

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 29 March 2003 01:55 (twenty-two years ago)

(G, tonight: a little pissed, in general: more sober than not nowadays. Why do you ask?)

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 29 March 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

the ideal prom would have a baroque theme and matching music and massive lacy dresses with lots of petticoats. in fact, it wouldn't be a prom, it'd be a ball. but i can't see this happening with ilx!

Maria (Maria), Saturday, 29 March 2003 03:29 (twenty-two years ago)

There should *be* an ILx Prom!

For my real prom, I went "as friends" with a beautiful junior, the star of X-Country who went on to Hahvahd.

Also, I was a total Glee Club nerd.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 29 March 2003 03:30 (twenty-two years ago)

oh man my ball (as we call them here in nz) was horrible. the singular most boring night of my life. if i were to have it all again, i'd ask jel and justyn and clare and That Girl and the winner is the one who does the best version of "waiting for a girl like you" by foreigner. i'd dress up like i normally do: as a space nurse. they'd better play something i can robot dance to.

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 29 March 2003 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Five, count 'em five fuckin' proms. My favorite prom story:

I accompanied a good friend of mine to her prom; she went to an all-girls school. Since it was her prom, she told me that she wanted to make the arrangements with hiring the limo, etc.

The day finally arrived. After meeting her family, pictures, etc., we waited out in front for the limo. She lived at the end of the block. Finally, we hear far off in the distance a loud, clunking noise. Then, we see The Beast. No, that couldn't be ours. No, surely that belongs to another couple who are going to a prom that lives on this block. No, surely it will turn into one of the other driveways any second now, even though this is a dead end street and it continues to make its way towards us. D'oh!!!

This thing looked very much like a beaten-up hearse: paint cracks, the whole works. I had heard earlier that they used it as a stunt limo car in a movie (if that's even possible). The manifold was broken, so apparently that was why you could hear it like a mile away. Our driver, 60ish or so, was dressed in dark pants with grease stains on them, and a grey t-shirt. After picking up the other couples (the look on their faces was priceless!), we continued on. The driver pulls into a gas station, pops the hood and fills the car with oil. Just what every professional limo driver does after picking up all the couples, I guess. Anyway, we drive further. Since the driver had not really opened his mouth at all when he picked us up, I attempted to make some conversation. After all, the car was going at a crawl, getting increasingly loud, and we would never get there at the rate we were going, so I figured we needed some rapport in our corner. "So...er...how fast can this limo go, sir?" "Well, when everything's workin' right, you can get her to go 75, 80 miles an hour. But with the problems she been havin' lately...the manifold...well, I s'pose yer lucky if ya get 35 outta her!!! Heh heh heh!!!" With that, he hacked up a lung, rolled down his window, and let fly a big green one. I recoiled to my seat and shut my mouth.

So, we get to the busiest intersection of the two main roads of the town center we were driving through, and the limo just breaks down right then and there. My date, by now in a seething fury at the driver's behavior and the car's performance (I hate to say it, but it not being MY prom, I thought it was all pretty amusing), trying desperately to maintain composure: "You know, sir, I hired your company to take us to where we needed to go, and it doesn't appear like you or your company have provided an adequate service. I just want to say right now that I expect your company will FULLY refund our money...right?"

At that moment, I was looking out my window and behind me, watching in awe as the immense traffic continued to pile up behind us. All of a sudden, I hear stifled laughter, the kind where one knows it will be deadly if discovered. It was coming from one of the other guys in the car. I look to where he's looking: the driver. Not speaking a word, the driver had reached under his seat and pulled out (as if from nowhere) a carton of milk and a package of Twinkies. He proceeded to eat and drink them, in full repose. That's it. No response, no nothing. Just sitting there drinking milk and eating Twinkies.

We got out of the car. Some poor soul stopped to help us. He and the driver popped the hood, discussed a bit between them, and then dislodged what looked like a major automobile part, walked around, and put it in the trunk of the limo. Meanwhile, we called a friend to pick us up and he took us to where we needed to be. After the prom was over, and everyone was exiting to the parking lot, the limo driver had somehow managed to get the limo working again and make it to the prom. He was waving at us with glee (still in the same grey t-shirt and grubby pants) "Over Here! OVER HERE!!!!" We cast lots to see who should go with him. Luckily (or maybe unluckily?), me and my date won out, and were spared any future experiences. But anyway, we walked over to the limo, to help out the couples who agreed to go with him, and he opened the trunk to put their baggage in--the huge car part was still in there, too.

Joe (Joe), Saturday, 29 March 2003 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

FIVE PROMS!!! Were you one of those eighth graders that dated high school chicks? (much cooler than the high school kids that date college chicks)

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 29 March 2003 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

oh wait, different school thing

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 29 March 2003 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA etc.

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 29 March 2003 05:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i wanna go with geeta but only if i get to wear the dress

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 29 March 2003 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Looks like we'll have to siphon off to an alternative prom like on Dawson's.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 29 March 2003 05:11 (twenty-two years ago)

don't bring your hate crimes here

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 29 March 2003 05:12 (twenty-two years ago)

my prom experience was weird. i invited someone i barely knew (we were friends with the same people and keep in mind my school only had 350 people total) because the girl i really wanted to go with didnt seem to want to go and i guess i just went to be with all my friends. the person i went with had gone to big track meet that day and was tired. i remember dancing to "holiday" by madonna and then bothering th DJ all night to play "music sounds better with you", which he did and i danced to that as well. since my date was sitting down (her choice believe me!), i basically did tha propa house thing and just danced with everyone and nobody at the same time. besides dancing to those two songs, i sneaked outside for illegal cigarettes and also talked a bit with my date.

that was senior year. junior year, there was a girl who liked me (i am not making this up!) and i liked her and she was bitching about having to go stag and i told her i would go with her and even said, in my most charming voice, that i would "watch saturday night fever every night and practice my moves". she said she wanted to go stag, and then, at the last minute, asked someone else.

if there was an ilx prom, i would probably go stag, wait for good music, and, not needing to "hold no hands", i would "shake my pants, get down and dance" and also maybe a few beers would help me along ;-)
i would try to get one of those Dior suits from a couple of years ago that had the shirts with the red sequin "love wounds" and i would look hott.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Saturday, 29 March 2003 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

never did prom, sorry

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 29 March 2003 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Di, I think yr costume idea rocks the casbah but I can't do Foreigner. Sorry honey.

That Girl (thatgirl), Saturday, 29 March 2003 08:06 (twenty-two years ago)

of course i get to the thread really late, when lots of people are already taken (and in certain cases, taken several times over!) i'm staying home and listen to the smiths on headphones!

(my prom - aka formal - was mostly dull. all i remember is hearing that 'holla' song like four times, and sweating a lot)

Dave M. (rotten03), Saturday, 29 March 2003 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I can do Foreigner, I'll even do air piano!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 29 March 2003 09:13 (twenty-two years ago)

its hard to choose, can i take all four of you? sam you can sing eminem instead if you like.

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 29 March 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to see ANYONE sing Foreigner better than me (including Foreigner)

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 29 March 2003 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i feel so spoilt. air piano, foreigner... where were you people when i was 15?

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 29 March 2003 09:33 (twenty-two years ago)

does anyone not have a date yet? i dont want to go all alone....

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 29 March 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a prom I guess, it took place last year at Christmas, well after I'd left school, I took a girl I liked and we snogged for a while then she got waaaaay too drunk and I had to take her home. I went back out to a wine bar and drank wine and other peoples champagne, I wore a tuxedo, wahey.

ILX prom I would go alone you mean ILX bastards you.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 29 March 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd go w/JBR since she's the only one of ILXORS regular chiXOrs who has expressed a liking for trout mask replica.

but we don't do proms or anything like that. and since i can't dance...

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 29 March 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Trout Mask Replica is one of my favourite albums, Julio, but I notice I don't get asked.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 29 March 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

you're not a chiXOr martin.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 29 March 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

You hurt him in his heart.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 29 March 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Dudes, Geeta already agreed to marry me.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 29 March 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Why don't we all take Jody to the prom? This means you get a date too Martin.

Graham (graham), Saturday, 29 March 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Jody? Isnt she that chick who died in that car accident with Dave Q on prom night? Man whenever I hear Europe's The Final Countdown I will always remember them. They are like married by death.

I DON'T WANNA GO TO THE FUCKING PROM!! TAKE YOUR SHITE DJ AND YOUR WEAK WATERY PUNCH AND YOUR TACKY FORMALWEAR AND AWKWARD SOCIAL TRANSACTIONS AND SHOVE EM UP YR ASS WITH THE REST OF YOUR PRECIOUS "MILESTONES"!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!!!!11

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 29 March 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to 2 sr. proms my sophomore year, 1 my jr. year, and then for my prom my sr. year friends and I rented a hotel room in the hotel where the prom was being held, filled the bathtub with chimey ale and &150 dollars worth of other booze and got really drunk, wandered around across the street where there was an African American festival happening (this was Norfolk, Va) went back to the hotel where I ran into the principal (I was the salutatorian, which made for a nice conversation) and then went back to the hotel room where we smoked up a lot.

Best part was that we had rented the honey moon suite and in the middle of the night, management comes to knock on the door and says after waving away the pot fumes "We have had complaints about noise. Another complaint and you will have to leave. And on behalf of the hotel, I wish to congratulate you and your husband on your new marriage."

Okay, I'm drawing up a playlist for the DJ; he's absolutely positively gotta spin Shudder to Think's "All Eyes Are Different" and the Afghan Whigs' "Be For Real" for slow dances. What other songs do we HAVE to insist that he play?

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 29 March 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

"Evergreen" and "Endless Love" and "Cherish" .

rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 29 March 2003 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Is A Light That Never Goes Out"
It would be a lot of fun to softly sing, "and if a double-decker bus crashes into us" into the ear of almost every ILXer! Not that I would actually wish that upon anyone (dancing with me, that is).

you guys are forgetting the important part: who's doubling with who?

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 30 March 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

doubling = baldest term for date swapping EVER

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 30 March 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh baby.

The prom band of my senior year covered REM's "The One I Love," completely missing the point of the song (or alternately being brilliantly clever).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 30 March 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd double up w/mary

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 30 March 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Night Ranger, "Goodbye". And GUESS WHO PLAYED THE MOTHERFUCKIN' GUITAR SOLO MOTHERFUCKERS

dave q, Sunday, 30 March 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Some fucker has this on video too. Incidentally, seeing it on video was the only way I knew for sure that I was actually there. Apparently the only time I looked at my date was when they played Ratt's "Round and Round"

dave q, Sunday, 30 March 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, Julio, you wound me.

Chris P (Chris P), Sunday, 30 March 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 31 March 2003 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to four proms. I got drunk at every one, pissed off my date and ended up at International House of Pancakes with my friends after each one.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 31 March 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo, I need a date. No one wants to get busy with Captain Parachute pants and my high top fade, you can kiss my Bobby Brown lovin ass.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 31 March 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

By the way, yelling at ladies is my technique. I got it down pat.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 31 March 2003 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 31 March 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone want to go with me? I clean up real nice!

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 31 March 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess I have to go alone and sit in the corner. But once the dancing starts all you bitches will be wanting me.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 31 March 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

We should shotgun beers behind the school before going in, Chris. PBR ok?

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 31 March 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Hell yeah, and comb our mullets.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 31 March 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 31 March 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Gotta get working on that mullet now...

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 31 March 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 31 March 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, Julio, breaking my heart is one thing but taunting me! That's just ungentlemanly! I would scratch your CDs up but you'd probably enjoy the results too much.

Chris P (Chris P), Monday, 31 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 31 March 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris P (Chris P), Monday, 31 March 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 31 March 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think Bryan could run out of beer, he's just putting you on as he has a 40 of CC in his trunk.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

*nickalicious, chaki, kate, and sarah mclusky, after a meeting at the (spiked, btw) punchbowl, attack the stage, tear the instruments from the sweaty hands of the prom band, and rip into drunken renditions of Journey's "Any Way You Want It" and Prince's "Little Red Corvette" and the Cure's "Pictures of You" and Clarence Carter's "Strokin", meanwhile Ally swoons (she came to the prom with me, lest ye forget)*

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

And then I'll stage dive.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess if kate's got a real-life date now, can I ask chuck eddy instead?

hstencil, Monday, 31 March 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be the wrong-side-of-the-tracks girl who makes herself a prom dress out of two or three old ones. Sadly, I will not achieve the waifish charm of Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink; the effect instead will be that of a pastel bag lady.

Interesting thread. The original part, that is.

My real life prom scenarios were as such: I didn't go. I didn't go. Not even when I was a senior and received my engraved invitation did I go. I had an opportunity to go stag as a junior to the prom with two other friends of mine, one of whom had a date, but I thought I'd have more fun staying at home watching TV or catching up on sleep than going to something where I'd have to get all gussied up. So I stayed at home and received my souvenir prom goblet (all seniors get some prom souvenir) a few days later.

My fantasy scenario would be: To go to the '80s prom with a high school-aged Graham Dalton as my date He is a soft-hearted sweetie, not nasty like Steff. We'd go in a stretch limo with Andie Walsh, her date Blane McDonnagh, and Andie's friends Duckie and Iona. We'd dance a few New Wave classics before going to a late-night diner and consuming burgers and milkshakes, then we'd have the limo driver cruise around for a bit before checking into a hotel room, where we'd all play card games before crashing. That would've been fun.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 21 September 2006 12:36 (eighteen years ago)

ditto.

ditto except for the huge-skirted dress part.

I went to two and they were both pretty boring.

Sam: Screwed and Chopped (Molly Jones), Thursday, 21 September 2006 12:41 (eighteen years ago)

dammit, i was hoping this thread was about an ACTUAL ILX prom that might actually be happening, where we could all dress up and dance to, er, Alphaville and stuff and someone could spike the punch, and a guy in a sky-blue tux could fall asleep under a table and girls could cry in the loos and the hard lads would turn up late and reveal leather hidden under jackets.

pah.

(nb none of the above is based on experience - i'm english and we don't do proms i dont think. but still.)

nothing is more evocative of high school for me than the phrase "driving around drinking boone's farm". oh delicious apple...

The only thing worse than this thread is knowing I've posted even more embarrassingly I-RMish material elsewhere. WTF 2003.
