I went to school with Muse. And Seth Johnson. And a little chap who plays for Exeter City. And the google-friendly Layla Jade. I'm related to Howard Wilkinson and Florence Nightingale. My brother used to know Thom Yorke. My dad got made redundant by Chris Martin's dad. When I was 10 I was on CBBC's Clockwise, presented by then-star-in-the-making Darren Day. I once got introduced to Sean Hughes and yer man from Gene at an Embrace aftershow party. I don't know Woody Allen. My mate's girlfriend once slept in David Bowie's drinks cabinet.

I know Mo Wax recording artists South.

I saw Zack De La Rocha in Selfridges.
I was thrown out of Bernard Butler's house.
I met Chris from Menswear in a pub (OK, the Good Mixer *gulp*) before I knew who they were. He told me about his band, and I thought he was a weirdo.
I saw Hope Sandoval in a record store in LA.
I saw Jack Lemmon getting out of a car in LA.
I served Vinnie Jones when I was walking at the Hilton. Then I ate his leftovers.
I once spoke to John Darnielle on an internet music discussion board-I felt like a giddy schoolgirl!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Met Robbie Williams up in Camden when he was goig through his fat/Oasis phase. He was in a bar near the Good Mixer and me and a pal was drinking at the bar when I turned round and there he was. I was like "Hi Robbie," and turned back round and then double taked thus blowing my attempt at cool utterly. He was in a black shellsuit and sunglasses, out of his brain and we all started ranting about the Velvet Underground, us trying to see how little he knew. He was alright actually.

Alex K (Alex K), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

That should be "working at the Hilton". Oops. And I served him FOOD.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

The next London FAP should be in The Good Mixer!!!!

*ducks*

My friend went to Olindo Mare's (kicker for Miami Dolphins) wedding.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

Fuck the Good Mixer. Actually, after we'd escaped Robbie we went in there for a game of pool and I managed to crack some dude in the face when I pulled the cue back through his newspaper. I hate Camden.

Alex K (Alex K), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

Was an accident btw. i don't hate Camden that much.

Alex K (Alex K), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

I was thrown out of Bernard Butler's house.

How did that happen?

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

He called him a Gelfling.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:27 (twenty-one years ago) link

Mark P makes me smile. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

Nicole - I know his brother-in-law. We were all hanging out there while he was in the US on tour, and he came back early. I was washing his dishes, and he walked in and looked at me and said "Who the fuck are you?". He had just fallen out with the rest of the band and his dad had just died. He quit Suede within the next month. He has a collection of NMEs and Melody Makers about six foot high, and lots of beer bottles with naked women on them.

Matt DC-applause!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

There really should be a "celebrities who look like gelflings" thread. But I've already started enough stupid ones.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

But that is the point of going to the Good Mixer! It's part of the tour that you give American friends when they come to visit to look at the indie popsters! Go down the GM and wait until Graham Blur or Chris Menswear turn up.

Except, the last time I went to the GM with Boyfriend X (of mildly successful indie band) to wait until indie popsters... and suddenly realised that all of the Swedish tourists were staring at US and whispering! V. embarrassing!

kate, Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

'mildly successful indie band' - Please don't say Menswear.

Alex K (Alex K), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

I was once in a small airport in Maine with Caspar Weinberger, former American Secretary of Defense.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:36 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh, and best of all (how did I forget?) I once did the NME crossword with Gerry The Bassist From Mega City Four in The Cavern in Exeter.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

Har har, no. I was unintentionally quite rude to Chris Gentry at Nag Nag Nag. I didn't realise who he was until Suzy told me. Whoops!

kate, Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

Also-Chris Rea nearly ran me over in his mid-life crisis car.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

I met Rob Tyner of the MC5, when he was touring with an all-girl band called The Vertical Pillows about a year before he died. I told him I was a big MC5 fan (which is a bit of an exagerration but I do think they were swell) and he said, "Me too, kid, me too." He was very fat and had the big Jew-fro going and bad teeth and wore a full length leather trenchcoat over a t-shirt and sweatpants combo.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

More britpop brushes-

I am in a Sleeper video (not saying which one as I am v prominent), and the US video for Suede's "The Drowners".

I am not a fan of either band.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 13:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

When I was at school, I went on a trip to Paris with the 6th Form and one day we was out there we went to like this beautiful hidden Chapel with 40ft stained glass widdows. You had to climb this narrow staircase to get up into this pitch black hall and you weren't allowed to speak because the experience was supposed to be so awe-inspiring. Anyway, we get up there and pretty soon someone spots Captain Jean Luc Picard with his missus so we all crowd over to him, as people are breaking down in tears and falling to their knees such is the splendour of this place and we daren't ask him for autographs cos, you know, you're not allowed to speak, so we come up with a cunning gambit. We take turns at sidling up to Picard and get our photo-taken as near to him as we can get without arousing suspician. Needless to say flash-bulbs going off in said Chapel weren't exactly encouraged and strangely Picard didn't seem to chuffed about the whole thing. Still, I got a hilarious picture, that I found all the more amusing since I didn't even like Star Trek.

-J@ck Wh!te tried to beat me up, partially cuz I was the first person to break that they're not bro-sis in print. (He's tried to beat up a lot of people in Detroit, actually.)
-You know that song "Ebow the Letter" by REM? Well, I wrote "the letter."
-Mark Eitzel and Kid Congo Powers once tried to set me up with their very nice stripper friend.
-Andrew WK went to high school two blocks away from my current apartment.
-Last weekend in NYC, I saw William Baldwin, Chloe Sevigny, and some standup comic who I've seen on Conan O'Brien.

@ck White tried to beat me up, partially cuz I was the first person to break that they're not bro-sis in print. (He's tried to beat up a lot of people in Detroit, actually.)

I just imagine him wildly flailing around girlishly trying to slap people. Could he even beat up a seventh grader?

hahahaha... oh. Um, so I took the opportunity to talk to him at a party at about 3am. He didn't take too kindly to my words, started gettin all angry, someone grabbed me and dragged me out of the party while I said, "why don't you talk to me like a man?" (brilliant!) and then he threw water and poof I was outside! Another time he threatened to drop a bowling ball on one of my buddies at the local water hole.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 14:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

What a bastard. I, for one, will be boycotting his fine products.

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 14:03 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ummm, did you meet Meg? Is she nice? I bet she is.

She has green teeth, but otherwise is pretty friendly but a bit dim. I think that's why she never talks and people think she's "mysterious."

boooo!
throwing water and threatening to drop bowling ballz does not = trying to beat up

Cheers Nordic!

I was just remembering the other day that me, her, the guitarist/singer from the Sights and my friend who's currently in Pas/Cal had a one-off band rehearsal. I think we wrote and recorded 5 songs that M@rcie wound up with... It'd be funny to hear them today.

Okay, enough from my past... I am bad.

I made up excuses to avoid talking to Katherine Hamnett after she regaled me with being-a-nutcase for 20 minutes. My excuse was that I had to go and talk to Malcolm McLaren, who was less mad, but more of a dickface.

I really want to play this, but it's quite lame...

I met Jonathan Ross. I've been inside his house. He has (or had) leopard-skin wallpaper in the hall and a study down in the cellar hidden behind a fake bookcase. This is where he has his computer and comics and all kinds of other ephemera. (The wallpaper for his computer was a scan of one of his kids in utero!)

I also met Paul Gambaccini once. I was incredibly drunk and made a joke he was polite enough to smile at.

Oh well, that's as good as it gets here!

I suddenly felt very self-conscious about peeing next to Samuel Delany, so I decided to wait until he finished. He insisted that I didn't have to, that maybe I didn't realize there was more than one urinal, but, urm, I decided to wait anyways.

Agreed! Some students wanted him to be the graduation speaker a few years ago but the admin wouldn't allow it cuz he was such a horrible student who then went on to get arrested for cocaine possession (but the decision had nothing to do with the horrible movies/tv shows he's made).

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 18:27 (twenty-one years ago) link

Sonny, the people have to be really famous or horrible local TV people so I'm sure a list divested of writers and former pop stars would still ROOL. Hence:

Don Shelby (Minneapolis news anchor with whole slew of Emmys) was a great friend of my uncle's and used to attempt to teach me magic tricks. Also he introduced me to nauseating local talk show hosts Steve Edelman and Sharon Anderson, mentioning that he reckoned they thought their shit didn't smell - while the couple were in earshot.

Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward were regular Sarah Lawrence visitors when I was a student there. As were Yancey Butler, Melora Hardin, Guinevere Turner and Julianna Margulies. My best friend lived across the street from David Lee Roth in Pasadena.

My uncle (the one who ran the Mpls Vice Squad, also mentioned above) was in charge of security operations for important visitors so we were forever being dragged to Orchestra Hall or wherever to meet: the Osmonds, Richard Simmons, Sophia Loren, Catherine Deneuve and once, he had to mastermind security for Mikhail Gorbachev. My cousin was invited to lunch/tea/whatever with Raisa but was too shy to go.

Waited on in shops: Holly Johnson, Angela Lansbury, Elizabeth Jane Howard.

Met through menial/admin jobs of one sort or another: Larry McMurtry, Allen Ginsberg, Kinglsey Amis, Kathy Acker, Gary Indiana.

Passed in street: Dustin Hoffman, Howard Jacobson, Peter O'Toole, John Malkovich (pushing a pram).

Really famous people at same party who are not friends or acquaintances: Kate Moss, Phil Daniels, Claire Danes, Ben Lee, Chloe Sevigny, Will Self.

Grandparents knew: Hubert Humphrey, JFK and Jackie, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and John Wayne (grandfather's ex-flatmate). Clark Gable tried to pick up my grandmother in 1930. I say 'tried'.

Mother babysat for: Harry Reasoner.

With a group of high-school pranksters, approached former Vikings coach Bud Grant at high-school football game to ask if he was having an affair with one of his players, Scott Studwell (turns out SS is my friend Stuart's cousin).

Spotted Bernard Butler and wife while walking back from watching Princess Diana's hearse go up Finchley Road. As I've never really spoken to him (unlike the rest of Suede, who I know from 'around') I suppose he counts.

I know what you mean, though, orangecrushnapalm. The same night at the bars I saw James Murphy and Erol Alkan and it was like "of course". But I think we can all agree that Felix Da Housecat is special for some reason. He's like the most cheerful celebrity in the world, perfect name, just rocking the perfect THING at all times.

Three weeks ago I met K1d C0ng0 P0w3rs, like for real! He said that at his last show people were "trying to lick him".

I keep seeing Jimmy Fallon everywhere. Ally just hang with me and you'll get your chance, seriously.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 18:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

Do you keep a list, Suzy?

There are scads of others that I've seen/met/interacted with/fellated but I'm not really interested in listing them all. It's not hard to meet celebs, after all, especially if you live in a big city (though even in small cities you can meet the local celebs easily; it's not so hard to meet the Malkmus here in Portland).

Ex-teen actresses I have either gotten high with or been there while they've gotten high: Claire Danes & Mel1ssa Joan Hart

Actor/bad writer who I've talked about Nick Tosches with: Ethan Hawke

And I don't even count sightings of Bernard Butler with child anymore because that just is a sign that I am running late for work .... The question being - who has not gotten high with Clair Danes and Evan Dando (I am trash celeb groupie at heart). But the funniest one was last summer when obsessed with big brother - was in selfridges and said OH WOW OH WOW IT'S SANDY FROM BIG BROTHER .... that was hte only time that I freaked out - weird considering that week, I talked to and hung out with Liam Gallagher and Bobby Gillespie ....

Hey Suzy - what about Ian McCulloch - he give me a big glass of scotch for asking him to show his third nipple off .... and we chatted about echo for awhile and the cast and crew of Holly Oaks!

see, i love spotting and reading spotting but I sound obsessive - you know -WHO HASNT GONE THROUGH MICK JAGGERS GARBAGE ... GEEZ. bahaha..

I was got the drummer from well known band really high on mushrooms (didnt knwo that he was a drummer - I just happen to have some and he happened to ask ... we ended up at this socialite debutante party ... donig all sorts of chemicals by the poool - when girl and i got back to the hotel room to drop him off - the rest of the band was there, really pissed, as they were nine hours late on their tour schedule ... bahahaha...i.e. he was gonig to get the mushrooms for hte bus but i convinced him to take them with me. cause i was a bored teenager!

Ellroy: When not mocking me for having divorced parents (he said my dad must be hung like a mosquito) or my friend for having dreadlocks (stop smoking weed, he kept telling my ethiopian roommate), he just told story after story of Hollywood gossip -- both from the 50s and today (some great bits on Willem Dafoe, Tom Cruise, Montgomery Clift and others). He was really surly and brash for the first couple of days (he's a friend of one of my mentors and he didn't want to drive around Virginia, so I became the driver for him and his wife, Helen Knode (who's a great writer too)), but then turned down the schtick. I really liked him. Very funny and really kind when you got down to it. I got to have dinner with him, my friend and Curtis Hanson (LA Confidential was about to open) and it was amazing. I talked to Ellroy on the phone a few months later, and he made sure I knew that while we were talking he was taking a shit. He told me this repeatedly. I really like him a lot.

I met John Aldrige in Doc's nightclub in Limerick although he was so drunk he could barely stand. Phil Babb was there too (surrounded by girlies) and I said "hello" and he told me to fuck off. The Ireland team were staying in Limerick that night...before an upcoming match against Austria. Apparently they all went nuts that night (read Tony Cascarino's book)...Liam Gallagher walked past me at the Feile festival when it was in Cork. I put out my hand for him to shake (oh jesus!) but he slapped it away...maybe he was giving me five...I'm not sure I was really pissed. I met Ray Meagher aka Alf from "home and away" in a pub in Tipp Town. BP Fallon sent me an e-mail once. I'm related to "TIPPERARY HURLING LEGEND" Nicky English.

Thanks Yanc3y, boy am I jealous, Ellroy's a favorite of mine. I've seen him read a few times and he always seemed pretty tightly wound and distracted. His style of dress struck me as obsessively fastidious given that the clothes themselves are essentially midwestern business casual.

Helen Knode was the film critic for the LA Weekly for a long time. She was once married to a man who was executed in Texas, too, if I'm not mistaken. She's very nice.

I can namedrop British comics people (and some top Americans) all day, but no one other than comic fans is impressed. For the record: Jack Kirby, Harvey Kurtzman, Alan Moore, Will Eisner, Sergio Aragones, Grant Morrison, Brian Bolland, Dave Gibbons, Eddie Campbell, Leo Baxendale - I could go on and on, but there are few who care.

I've had conversations with John Cooper-Clarke, Wreckless Eric, Captain Sensible twice and the rest of the Damned once*. I've touched Jonathan Richman's bare chest.

I've passed in the street: Edwina Currie (couple of weeks ago), Armando Ianucci, Phil Jupitus, Dave Allen.

*I mentioned these and some comics people in a conversation about this stuff with this woman I was involved with a while back. She mentioned those she had spent time with: Prince, Aretha Franklin, Spike Lee, Toni Morrison, Denzel Washington - a vast list of the biggest black stars, due to having spent time working on a top British black paper. She was a respected novelist too, and had been on loads of panels and things recently with Zadie Smith.

For my part:

Met William Shatner during his stint on _TJ Hooker_. He's much shorter than you'd think. Good grip. Wrong hair.

Crossed paths with Tim Leary on a couple of occasions. Dodged pixie dust trailing behind him.

Sat next to Terrence McKenna at a dinner held by one of my old profs. Nice guy. Great conversationalist. Loony, in a good way.

Turned down a joint passed to me by one Peter Kember. Nearly had him nod off on my shoulder; had to wake him after jet lag caught up with him. Very tall. Very gaunt. Very dry. Likes his Velvets boots.

Chatted once with Dave Pearce, but that's only a big deal to those of us not from Bristol, i suppose.

You know when someone behaves in a way that you suspect you might behave in too in those circumstances, but then you see them behave like that and realise that it's lucky you didn't, cos you'd look like a bit of a twat?

I'm working at the production company/casting studio in Hollywood today. I hope someone "famous" comes in. Like Sally Kirkland. Or Lesley Anne Warren. One of the last times I was here Ja'net Dubois came in, I was in heaven. And this is the place where I first set my male gaze on the enormous ass of Julian Casablancas.

I saw Henry Thomas hiking shirtless in Griffith Park a couple of weeks ago, that's been my favorite celeb sighting so far this year.

Yeah, so I went to see My Own Private Idaho with my friend Marina and Nick Cave. He didn't laugh at Udo Kier's wacky performance art in the hotel room. Marina and I bust a gut. And I braided Jeffrey Lee Pierce's hair in my dorm room, but that wasn't really a chance encounter.

I don't know anyone famous anymore. Except Kid, he should be more famous.

I sat next to Lyndsy Wagner (the Bionic woman) on an airplane

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Thursday, 10 April 2003 03:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

-sat in the same row on an airplane once with Henry Rollins.
-got to be friends with Bob Nastanovich (Pavement) and Jason Lowenstein (Sebadoh) when they lived in the same house in Louisville. Used to go over there and sell 'em ice cream. Weirdly enough, I ran into Jason randomly the other night in Brooklyn. Related: stayed in Sebadoh's hotel suite (and got really stoned with them) the night before they played Conan in '94.
-Got stoned with Mayo Thompson (Red Crayola) after a show.
-Took Shellac out for breakfast. Albini tells me that the place we went (in upstate NY) has the best home fries he's ever tasted in his life. Used to run into them a lot in Chicago, too. Went to Steve's birthday party, July 1998.
-Waiting outside Tenacious D show in Chicago, I see John Cusak come in the front door, wearing a black trenchcoat (post Columbine!) and a pulled-down Cubs hat. Neve Campbell trails in five feet after him (and has really ugly teeth in person, lemme tell ya).
-Saw both George Bushes in crowd at Kentucky Derby, 2000. Too much security present for me to assasinate (HELLO ECHELON!).
-Declined opportunity to run over Ethan Hawke (crossing 10th Avenue) in my friend's Renault, en route to Pavement show in Times Square, 1995.
-Recently spotted Nile Rogers walking in Midtown.
-Once saw Markie Post of TV's "Night Court" walking around south of Central Park with her daughter, Summer of 2001.
-Saw Tim Robbins duck in and out of bars on Avenue B last summer.
-Saw Billy Corgan walking his dog on Southport Ave. in Chicago on my way home from the laundromat.
-Went to Laurie Anderson's 50th Birthday Party in 1997. Lou Reed and Arto Lindsay were there.
-Nearly knocked over Dr. Ruth coming out of a Midtown eatery this past summer.
-Served drinks by Johnny Machine at Rainbo (heh heh).

there's prolly several more that I don't remember.

I found this thread late but actually I've got a bunch of these, owing to living with a musician friend who was a bit of a scenester. I've come home to randomly find the likes of Beck, Alec Empire, Dave Grohl, and Billy Corgan hanging out at our place. Oh, and also through that last connection I got to meet Mike Garson! Yes, that's right, master pianist Mike Garson of David Bowie fame! He's really funny and unassuming, nice guy.

Also, funniest encounter - I was in Las Vegas once for a completely unrelated reason, but it happened to coincide with the "Adult Film Awards". Well, it turned out a friend of a friend who was in the porn industry (just as an IT grunt for some website) was out there for it, and he invited me to an industry party (hosted by the guy whose claim to fame was owning the rights to the Tommy / Pamela video or something like that). Pretty lame party (lots of nude women, yeah, but whatevah), so we go to leave and Warren Moon gets in the elevator right next to us! Warren fucking Moon! He was a free agent at the time and I kind of sheepishly asked him if he'd consider playing for the Lions (my fave team). He kind of wrinkled his nose and said "no."

Oh, also met Cobain back in like '89 when Nirvana played the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor right after Bleach came out (a very commonly bootlegged show - I've got an lp of it). I was pretty drunk. I remember asking him "did you know everything you guys have recorded fits perfectly on one side of a 100 minute cassette!" He looked at me very strangely.

And I got autographs from Hunter S. Thompson and Tina Weymouth (different times).

Of all the famous mentioned in this thread, I would really like to know more about Captain Sensible.

I went with a couple of pals to the Bristol gig on the Damned's first tour. There were maybe 10-20 punks there, plus the curious and the hostile. We chatted to th band before they played. One of my friends mentioned that he was a drummer, and Rat Scabies ran backstage and came back and gave him a really good big cymbal. We liked him best, and Captain Sensible next.

Twenty years later I went to a CD/Record Fair in Leicester, where I was living then. Making a not very grand opening was Captain Sensible. He was also kind of greeting when we went in, so I said "You don't remember me, do you?" He looked sort of confused and uneasy for a fraction of a second, before I made it clear I was kidding. He didn't remember the cymbal thing, even.

-Watching Anton from BJM tell Marilyn Manson that he (Anton) was going to kill him - just not that day.

Others:

-Shared an elevator with Harry Belafonte. Totally awesome guy - I was pretty much dumbfounded and speechless until he said hi and asked how I was..
-I almost ran over John Lithgow as he ran out between two parked cars (he had a coffee in one hand and a cell phone in the other)
-Met Robert Anton Wilson once and he made me a Discordian Pope!
-Had dinner with Tim Powers and his wife - actually got to ride in the old blue truck that he put into Last Call.

the most "famous" people i've met are johnny marr and bernard sumner. they were both SUPER NICE, and johnny sat down and chatted to us (my sister and i) and signed one of my smiths records!

jim reid was standing right next to me at a gig upstairs at the monarch once, but i was too scared to say anything.

also, the toronto maple leafs were always coming in to the bookshop i worked at, but i never knew who they were until people from the other shops would come in and tell me. my sister met all of them and got them to sign some leafs book for her manager (becuase her manager was too afraid to go up to them and ask them). i was like YOU SHOULD HAVE GOT ONE SIGNED FOR YOURSELF AND SOLD IT. i'm sure her manager made a killing on it though. the small one out of sloan almost came in to that same bookshop once, but then changed his mind at the last minute.

I saw Paul Daniels driving in his Bentley on the motorway and he waved to us. His number plate read MAG1C!

I have Kim Wilde's autograph because I met her at an automobile convention in Knebworth when I was ten and my mum did a class for her sister-in-law.

My Dad used to co-own the lesser-known boat off of "Howard's Way" (The Flying Fish, not the Barracuda) and I slept in the bunk where there was a sex scene. Luckily my Dad cleaned the covers when he got the boat.

I also met some chick out of that show in Maxwells in Hampstead when I was 10.

I used to see Rory McGrath in Cambridge station on a weekly basis and the first time I saw him I couldn't remember his name so I just shouted "Oi! That's that bloke off the telly! Oi mate!". I have met a few very nice people. I have met a few wonderful ladies, that you probably have never heard of. I have a lot of respect for Lady Banting's sister.I know her well. I have met a Countess and knew the Baroness for 25 years. I have met a wonderful musician by the name of Bronn Journey. He plays the harp and he's just great. I met a good country band, ( The Brent Lee Band,) From out West.) who were nice folks.

I shared all my junior-year college classes with the man who invented emo. But you knew that already.

As I was walking through a dorm corridor, apropos of nothing, Dan Littleton from Ida showed me his newly-purchased vinyl copy of Young, Gifted and Black. "Do you know how long I've been trying to find this?!?!" He sighed with great satisfaction.

Still, I kept staring at him trying to convince myself it wasn't him, and it looked a lot like him.
