This is true. When I first came to the US, for a comic convention, people kept telling me I sounded just like Alan Moore. Explaining that his Northampton accent is not much like my Wiltshire/Bristol one didn't get me anywhere. Of course, I can't identify many US accents with that kind of geographical precision (maybe Brooklyn, but I bet most people there sound nothing like what I have in my head), so it's fair enough.
