"I fear you are about to propose a very risky course of action," said Spock.

"But it worked once before."

"It is not logical to risk your life on my account," said Spock II.

"You're both intelligent, creative scientists. I'm sure there's a way to use Keniclius' device without killing the patient."

"It is possible," the Spocks conceded.

"In the meantime, don't you think we ought to . . . explore the possibilities?" He looked hopefully up at Spock II.

Spock folded his arms in front of him. "Illogical. Our memories and consciousness, while separate, are identical."

"Yes, Spock, it's like having you, only two hundred times as much of you. It'll be fun."

Spock raised an eyebrow. "Two hundred twenty-two point six times," he corrected, but he was secretly surprised and pleased by the accuracy of Kirk's casual estimate. "Since he holds a novelty factor for you," Spock told Kirk, "I will investigate the replication device and report back to you."

"Don't you want to work on that together?"

"Since we are identical, I cannot foresee logically how either one of us could assist the other."

"That sounds logical." Kirk wasn't about to let Spock leave like that, however. He looked at his spouse sweetly, and embraced him. "I love you. Come back soon," he whispered into his mind.

Spock laid his hand on Kirk's cheek and looked into his eyes with a great unmasked pleasure. He drew back and nodded approvingly at Spock II. "Since the Phylosians judged me to be a superior specimen, it is only logical that you should find me intriguing no matter the shape or size."

"Not too shortly, I hope."

"I believe we all know how shortly."
