London FAPpish thing #2169- Secret name *carey*

So I will be on holiday in London with my squirrel blocking bitch and would like to meet whoever is available. I was thinking perhaps Thursday May 15 or Sat. May 17, or perhaps both?

I'm not sure where everyone is located or what your pleasure is. We'll be staying in a b&b in Bloomsbury but we can get to anywhere in a skip. I was trying to think of a pub that would be roomie and not have music blaring where we could talk easily. I'm kind of fond of The Dive Bar (seedy, caverny, plays 60s music on Gerrard St. on the edge of Chinatown). Or maybe we can head to EC1 and we can go trendy bar/pub hopping. If it's nice out we could stand outside the Bricklayer's Arms on Charlotte or go to that bar on Brick Lane across from 93 Feet East that has that big outdoor courtyard. Then again we could just stay in Soho and do one of the pubs there. But we have nowhere to be those days and anything is good for us.

So suggestions, comments more karaoking, more picnics?

Carey (Carey), Monday, 5 May 2003 13:37 (twenty-three years ago)

that bar on Brick Lane across from 93 Feet East that has that big outdoor courtyard

has free Internet connections; possibly a bad thing!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 5 May 2003 13:46 (twenty-three years ago)

i can do 17. possibly 15.

haha bricklayers arms! that place is as much a chemists as a boozer. its alright though, i quite like it!

the one opposite 93ft east is trumans brewery/vibe bar/whatever they're calling it now. thats not bad either if weather is good

but i'll be honest with you, the chances of you getting this lot over to EC1/EC2 is pretty damn slim.

dont know dive bar, or maybe i do, but when we went it was playing ghetto tech and miami bass while south london geezers looked menacing. course it could have been a different place on gerrard street, i kinda forget.

yea, anyway...bring it!

gareth (gareth), Monday, 5 May 2003 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I just remembered the name. The Vibe Bar I think. They have Tiger beer though!

Carey (Carey), Monday, 5 May 2003 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

The Dive Bar is under another bar on the corner I think. You have to go down some steps.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 5 May 2003 13:49 (twenty-three years ago)

15 is quatermass pt 2 for some of london FAP-type foax (note to self: remember to book tkt) so 17 wd be better that-wise

mark s (mark s), Monday, 5 May 2003 13:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I am happy to do either or both. Also I work in Bloomsbury, as do some others, so a lunchtime drink is poss if you somehow find yourselves bored.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 5 May 2003 16:52 (twenty-three years ago)

EC1/Ec2..oh the horror...

as i believe i mentioned on another thread its my birthday on the 15th so might not be around that night, but i'm currently still undecided about what to do...will probably be in the Atlantic Bar & Grill or Glasshouse Stores on the Friday (16th) for official booze-up but i'm too scared to invite anyone for fear of them not turning up...Saturday sounds cool tho...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 5 May 2003 17:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well maybe then we'll just a have a mini Fap on Thursday (after work?) near Bloomsbury for whoever can make it and just wants to relax and talk and then try to plan something more substantial for Saturday. Someone will have to suggest places, cuz I can only remember facades of places and the main pubs in Soho.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 5 May 2003 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you a karaoke fan, Carey? Our karaoke FAPs are Bloomsbury (Tottenham Court Road, if that's still Bloomsbury) on Thursday nights. Nothing 'mini' about them though. And Stevem, I suspect that FAPs on three nights in a row will cut numbers for each, but many people (perhaps even including me) won't be able to make every night.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 5 May 2003 18:38 (twenty-three years ago)

the chances of you getting this lot over to EC1/EC2 is pretty damn slim.

eat my fuc

I'm meant to be seeing Sightings on the 15th or 16th, but hopefully I can make it to some meet-ups (If I can I'll pop in for a birthday drink, stevem!).

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 5 May 2003 18:46 (twenty-three years ago)

FAPs on three nights in a row will cut numbers for each, but many people (perhaps even including me) won't be able to make every night.

i agree and i didn't mean to hijack, just thought i'd let some people know

stevem (blueski), Monday, 5 May 2003 18:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I love karaoke. Except I've never done it because every time I go, people are way too serious about it and I sing badly yet very enthusiastically. I would be very down for carey-okeing.

I have to be in Cambridge on Friday so I can't wish stevem a happy birthday.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 5 May 2003 18:56 (twenty-three years ago)

There isn't a great deal of seriousness at karaoke FAPs, Carey. Or any other kind of FAP really.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 5 May 2003 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh and I don't know what quartermass or Sightings is so I'm lost on that.

great idea Martin

stevem (blueski), Monday, 5 May 2003 20:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I am worried that I'm forgetting things, especially given my age. I've just written these dates on my calendar, but I'm vague on when Mel, Geeta, Andrew and others are planning to be here.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 08:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Er yeah I'm part of the Quatermass hive mind so can't do the 15th. And on Sat I'm down for a picnic in the park complete with pork pie shopping in Borough market (mmm pie). Any other dates?

EC2 bar = Hamilton Hall = UGGGGGH!!!!!

The last time I was in the Dive Bar it just played the Madonna album. Several times. In a row. I've not been back since but thinking of Chinatown has reminded me that I really should make an effort to get to Oriental City sometime soon.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 09:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Bloomsbury a go go.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 09:10 (twenty-three years ago)

HSA actually wanted to go to the next Bloomsbury FAP. I don't think that he realised Karaoke was involved, though! (Do they have any experimental SoundArt karaoke? Though with his current bad punk kick, he'll want to sing nothing but The Ruts and rubbish like that...)

kate, Tuesday, 6 May 2003 09:22 (twenty-three years ago)

carey you should cambridge and forget FAPs and go to this instead ;-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 09:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I am delighted to confirm my attendance at the May 15th Bloomsbury/careyoke mini-FAP (with wings).

Love, Mark C (no relation)

The one in Colindale? Is there more than one? Good sushi.

Yeah, I'll always do Bloomsbury. Count me in.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 09:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Sadly May 15th is my 24th birthday and I shall be ensconsed in the Ram bar at Exeter Uni; however, I shall be arranging a whole two days in Londinium in early-mid June. More info later.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 09:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay! Geminis reprazent!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 09:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Aye - the one in Colindale. Last time we went we kinda forgot about the bank holiday thing so the shops were closed! But the food court was open - yay - but dodgy dim sum gave me food poisoning - nay :(

This has still not put me off DIM SUM.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

I would so go to a Fancy A Dim Sum.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 10:02 (twenty-three years ago)

oh yeah. oops. misread it as "May 24th is my 15th birthday". or something. ;)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 10:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I wish!

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 10:50 (twenty-three years ago)

You wouldn't be drinking if you were only 15! At least not in a Proper Pub!

kate, Tuesday, 6 May 2003 10:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Ha, actually I managed quite a few times...

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 10:52 (twenty-three years ago)

when i was 15 it was Fancy A Ciders Bought From Dodgy Offy In The Park After Dark?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 10:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Fancy Getting Arrested and Grounded till you're 16 was a favourite of mine. some of my friends even did it twice

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 11:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm a Gemini too! So Karaoke on the 15th? Maybe a picnic on the 17th, since that was the only suggestion. I'm a little confused. Karaoke is Quartermass? I googled Quartermass and came up with a TV show and a band. Or is it the name of the karaoke night. And then are tickets needed for it as someone implied. All the terrible confusion.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 11:16 (twenty-three years ago)

No tickets needed 4 karaoke. Not yet, anyway...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 11:18 (twenty-three years ago)

hmmm, i might re-arrange things as it would be nice to come out on the 15th and see you guys - karaoke or otherwise - what the hell is this Quartermass and can we eat it?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 11:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Quatermass = classic UK sci-fi TV series from the 50s/60s getting a showing at the ICA on the 15th. Needs tickets.

Karaoke = drunken mentalists singing at each other in a pub on the 15th. Needs your head examined.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 11:28 (twenty-three years ago)

oh THAT Quatermass - sounds cool - karaoke cheaper tho...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 11:30 (twenty-three years ago)

No no, Quatermass is gud telly wot is showing at the ICA on the 15th, to which several ILX-ers have already booked tickets. Karaoke is an entirely different occasion of fish and entirely free.

Haha the picnic is a GOTH picnic with zero ILX attendance as far as I know. I am not even sure who's organising it! I'm only going for the pork pies.

Haha I see the night before is also a PIRATE THEMED CLUB NIGHT. Hey Momus can I borrow yore eyepatch?

Actually - let's not.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 11:31 (twenty-three years ago)

oh someone remind me to get a ticket for Quatermass. Where do they come from? (MIGHT IT POSSIBLY BE FROM THE ICA?)I can go to FAPs whenever they are. This statement may turn out to be untrue. I have no problem going to EC1/2. In fact I quite like it.

alix (alix), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Carey, I promise to serenade you at careyoke if you'd like. I did "Hello" last time - would you like me to mould your head?

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:18 (twenty-three years ago)

http://www.cv81pl.freeserve.co.uk/images/quatermass1.jpg

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Mould your head? Mark, really.

alix (alix), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark C you know just what to say and you know just what to do. I would love it if you molded my head into a wet looking mullet.

Someone needs to let me know the time and place of the careyoke, unless someone wants to just leave me a trail of pint glasses, but that might take awhile.

Does anyone dance, we could perhaps have a bit of the butt bumping on Saturday after getting nicely lubricated.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 12:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Is that Quatermass & The Pit, mark s? With the mentalist aliens what are like crazy birds and they are all non-scary puppets?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:30 (twenty-three years ago)

yes except they are v.scary

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I believe that is the non-scary puppet - I mean alien in Mark's photo above. Not only that but Nigel Kneale is introducing it too!!!!

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 13:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, yes, the bird-bug thing. I think you have to be of a certain generation to be petrified by the bird-bug thing; my brother made me watch Don't Look Now when I was 9, hence seeing Q&TP when I was 21 in a lecture meant that the bird-bug things were very much not v.scary. I feel i've missed out.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

are there still tixors for the Quatermass thingy, anyone know?

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 14:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I dunno - give the ICA a bell and JOIN US...

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 15:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Did anyone pick up my ticket I wonder? (I am so idle.) (I'm not even sure who I asked.)

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not going so I didn't.

NumnumPastis (Pete), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 15:35 (twenty-three years ago)

You'll have to come to careyoke instead, Tico.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 15:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Why not pastis?

(God now I want a pastie)

CORNISH BOOZE (starry), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 15:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Does it clash with Steve's birthday? That's another important consideration.

When I get a new place to live people who like 'seminal' sci-fi with 'interestingly realised' monsters are welcome to come round and watch some of my frighteningly fast-growing collection of Dr Who videos.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 15:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to see a faded rock star on the 15th. Might make it on the 17th.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 15:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm at an important work meeting / the races in Brighton on the 14th and won't make it back in time.

NumnumPastis (Pete), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 15:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Enjoy Evan Dando, jel.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 15:56 (twenty-three years ago)

He's part of the turquoise mafia.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can we not have just have one big fuckoff FAP on Saturday 17th? Thursday is kind of difficult for me, and weekend FAPs will probably guarantee better attendance (plus less likelihood of ruin the next day).

I am worried about karaoke FAP overkill, especially as most of the decent songs have been done at the Pint Pot by now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 11:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Obv. I will go out for SteveM's magical birthing day pissup whenever that occurs, so that's not a problem for me.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 11:00 (twenty-three years ago)

haha momus is also playing at the ica while quatermass is on on wednesday! coincidence i think not

Chip Morningstar (bob), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 12:57 (twenty-three years ago)

saturday piss-up could be good...i might not make it out thursday night but as i say Friday will probably be my own FAP of sorts in Glasshouse (unless i can think of a better venue)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 13:05 (twenty-three years ago)

No, we can't have one big FAP. That's the whole point - we all want to see our guest, but we can't all come on the same day. You don't have to go to both! I can't do saturday, so I have a vested interest.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

My thoughts were that: I've got all the time in the world so there's no sense selecting 1 day if people can come and hang out with me and Franz on Thursday. If people are already going out and/or have nothing to do then please let us tag along. But definitely we should plan something for Saturday. Because it's Saturday and Saturday's all right for fighting.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh... sory Mark - didn't see you couldn't make Saturday. Still, I'm pretty sure I can manage both dates and am perfectly happy to do both.

Saturday is also alright for after-hours fun... how's your Spanish?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 17:42 (twenty-three years ago)

my birthday's the wednesday, but i'm going to glasgae on the thursday, so will miss carey-based fun.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 8 May 2003 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

FA cup day = may 17th, no?

chris (chris), Thursday, 8 May 2003 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

yeh, it will be a pile of shit as usual tho (predict Arsenal 1 Southampton 0)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 8 May 2003 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

So, uh, what's happening? Can you fill me iiiiin, talk about it....

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 8 May 2003 14:34 (twenty-three years ago)

It's not about the game steve, it's about the road to wemley (well, Millenium stadium), the teams flying in in helicopters, the amazing soccer am that always precludes it etc etc etc and of course drinking and gambling all through the game.

chris (chris), Thursday, 8 May 2003 14:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't figure it out either. I believe whoever is available is hanging out on Thursday and doing careyoke? or having a couple of drinks. And then on Saturday either picnic or later evening drinks and wherever that may lead...

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 8 May 2003 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

So. I'm happy to sort something definite for Thursday night if you like. Anyone else want to sort out saturday?

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 8 May 2003 14:40 (twenty-three years ago)

sort away boyincorduroy

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 8 May 2003 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I will be holed up inside my house watching the final during the day, but would really like to do Saturday night drinks, preferably somewhere central and Sam Smithsy.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 8 May 2003 15:08 (twenty-three years ago)

What Matt said - I'm not missing the Cup Final, even for Carey. Especially as I tipped Southampton for the cup this year ages ago. I fancy their chances less now that Arsenal have nothing else this year, but I want to watch anyway. I guess we could meet in one of those pubs with big TV screens, but I'll be ignoring people who want to talk to me, if any, while the game's on, so that doesn't help much.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 8 May 2003 21:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually if we met in a pub w/ a tv during the game that would be fine as Franz is a huge football freak and even went to Japan for the world cup last summer. But of course we can do something after/before.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 8 May 2003 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

bear in mind the game is what 3pm kick off? meeting up around then with the view of carrying it on well into the night? ooooh its gonna be messy! :)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 8 May 2003 21:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually late drinks will be better. I just remembered that I have girly shopping (=shoes, panties, and records) to do on Saturday and we'll be getting back from Cambridge.

Thanks for letting me know when kick off is so we'll be sure to be in a pub.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 8 May 2003 21:23 (twenty-three years ago)

There will be many volunteers to help you shop for underwear, I think. Any day but the Cup Final, I might have been one of them...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 8 May 2003 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Isn't William a Southampton fan?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 9 May 2003 09:03 (twenty-two years ago)

It now seems as if I won't be there on Thursday. It seems that my intruder didn't just send malicious and pornographic email on Wednesday, it seems they also deleted at least one thing, an invite to one of my very best and oldest friends' birthday drinks. It's only down the road and is in an ordinary pub, so I might show up with the rest of the crowds just after normal closing time. Otherwise, anything planned for Saturday yet?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 10 May 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Is anyone else still up for the 17th? if not, maybe we'll just be done with it and have some heavy drinking on Saturday. So we'll head to Brghton on Thursday instead if everyone is nay.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

No way in hell is Mr Swygart missing the cup final this year. Baddiel and Skinner think they had it bad, they never had Patrick Colleter at left-back...

If there's a load of people going to t'pub, I dunno... just thinking about the possibility of us losing to dear old Monsieur Le Diplomat and his "only £15 million post-season transfer budget" has me on the verge of tears, and if I do break down I think I'd rather do it at home than amongst a bunch of Highbury faithful/stockbrokers/whatever.

On the other hand, if we win, then I'll be getting smashed. Though, again, what with the location and such, this could be more than figurative.

But Thursday should be cool.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

the thread is really funny.

OK. lets just do a weekday (15th) and we'll get Tim or Pete or tom to choose a pub bcz THEY KNOW!!!

weekdays are best bcz everyone can just come in from work and also sat is all abt the FA cup final for many here.

no picinic or karaoke nonsense (though i don't mind the latter but i won't sing as usual). just drink and meet and chat is OK no?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

How does my inability to do Thursday lead to cancelling the Saturday meet? And to changing the Thursday one?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

But Julio, no more: What do you wanna do I don't know what do you wanna do whatever you wanna do no whatever you wanna do we'll do anything but that but what do you wanna do anything you wanna do"

i was enjoying that

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

some ppl will miss out whether its 15th or 17th. I can try for the 17th actually. just thinking abt it I'll prob be at college on sat so I'll need a drink after.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

heh, make a choice carey and make let it be final!!! make a stand!!!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

why don't we say 8ish on saturday. we can close up the place somewhere. and maybe if anyone has energy they can go with us to do some dancing. plus that one hour of fighting, until the clubs get going.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I still like the sound of doing both - you will meet more ILXers that way.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

If that's a good thing...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, fighting should be good.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

The only pubs I know well are the ones in the eastend because I worked that way. I cannot think of any of names of pubs in soho (3 Greyhounds, Toucan?) or Bloomsbury that is kind of spacy and quiet where we could meet after work on Thursday. Would that be 6pm?

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still willing to do both since I usually have to hit a pub every hour anyway to get my Guinness fill.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I would like to watch Julio fighting, yes.

I thought the Thursday plan was the Pint Pot on Tottenham Court Road for Careyoke?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin so far I thought you were one of 2 or 3 up for that and if you aren't there then I have no reason for making a spectacular fool of myself.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark C was very up for Thursday, and if it does happen I will show up late on. And I'll come to a Saturday one, once the FA Cup Final is over, so I can get to town from, say, 6.30.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I can turn up for drinks but no careyoke.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom Ewing!

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio, will you sing if they have any Derek Bailey songs?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just about to e-mail you Martin but I guess that would be silly since you are obviously right here. So the Pint Pot: what time do things start, is it ON Tottenham Ct Road? North or South of the tube station? Next to? I'm pretty familiar with the area so if I could just get some general directions maybe we'll just say a time for Thursday and then say whoever can should meet there. Or is that place too loud for conversation?

And for Saturday 7ish or 8ish would be good and we can just pick a place to hold court.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

carey turn left from goodge street. careyoke starts at 9pm-10 usually.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok easy enough. maybe we should meet there at 7 or 8 then people can stay for careyoke if they want. or maybe they'll just swept away in all the beer and be singing King Of the Road with me.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

'Careyoke' quota exceeded for this thread, please move elsewhere with your neologisms.

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Trailers for sale or rent...

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It is on Tottenham Court Road, more than halfway up - just North of Goodge St tube, on the opposite side. (In fact it is like 50 yards from my office, the first building on Torrington Place if you're checking your A-Z - the Pint Pot is just North of that side road.) It's not too loud, and the karaoke doesn't start until 9, and is at one end of a long pub. It has a late licence on Thursday, until 1am, so I will show at around 11.30 or so.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Cozen I'm gonna be starting shit on your FAP thread if you don't recognize.

Sounds good then, Martin.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

So Pint Pot on Thursday. We'll be there around 8ish whenever other people want to drop by. I think everyone knows what we look like.

Saturday 7-8 at a pub of someone's choosing since no one is going anywhere near EC1 or EC2 with me. How about the Good Mixer *ducks*. I played Witchita Lineman on the jukebox there once 5 times in a row and no one noticed. Not even Finley Quaye.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we should see who can come on Saturday and where suits them. EC is okay with me, because I live Eastwards, but I expect the West End will be more popular.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe we should just go see the matrix.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I've not seen the first one, so would not be able to cope with the sequel. My friend whose birthday do I will be going to earlier on Thursday assured me it was the worst film ever made.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 10 May 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a soft spot for Keanu.

It's below the belt.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

hehe, sorry Carey... (I'm just jealous because your's is sitting at 100 while mine languishes at like 30 *hmph*).

(I don't mean any harm, obv.)

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 10 May 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Cozen it's just because your's is not urgent. I'm leaving on Tuesday so this has gotta get somewhat settled before I have to start hitting the Easy Everythings every hour trying to figure what is going on.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 10 May 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

It is both URGENT & KEY... ok ok... I'll step off...

I wish I could go to London. Or Berlin.

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 10 May 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Got birthday drinks Wednesday and Friday so my visit to the FAPs might have to be a flying one - more likely Thursday.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 12 May 2003 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Ican do the early Thursday shift, and mid evening and late too. That's what I'm like.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 12 May 2003 09:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I will be along late on Thursday following a works drink reception - so I may be three or four sheets to the wind. No change there, then.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 12 May 2003 09:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I am still here! At worst, Carey, you and Franz get to spend the evening with me, and I'm *fab*. I'll be at the Pint Pot at 8 then!

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 12 May 2003 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Can the likes of Tico Tico and Pete, in their capacities as entertainments managers (a kind of Ted Bovis, split in two), propose somewhere for Saturday?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 12 May 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to catch up with recently returned G, so I'll be missing this one I'm afraid.

chris (chris), Monday, 12 May 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Right on Mark C. and Pete and whoever else I can recognize by the time I've had my 4th pint!

Carey (Carey), Monday, 12 May 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

No point me choosing somewhere for Saturday Martin cos I won't be there - but I'll be out on Thursday.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 12 May 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Ditto.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 12 May 2003 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Will The Champion be okay for Saturday night?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 12 May 2003 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

So, just so I make sure I'm understanding this- it's 7:40 on the Carey Final for the 17th Karaoke, then not a picnic Cozen on Saturday Pint Pot, 15th. Left at the lights, don't talk to strangers, Tottenham Court Road. For the Matrix FAP.
Doh!
http://images.webshots.com/ProThumbs/35/18235_wallpaper280.jpg

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Exactly. And bring your own munki.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 12 May 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry to hijack again but seeing as i already mentioned it earlier this is just to confirm i'm in the Glasshouse Stores on Friday night for 25th birthday japery from around 6pm if anyone here fancies a pint then as well...but i might be out Saturday night anyway so see you then if not before.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 12 May 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

No problem stevem. Sorry we won't be able to make it.

So it seems to stand that we'll be at the Pint Pot on the 15th at 8pm.

and on the 17th The Champion (unless someone wants to fight that out) at 8ish pm.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 12 May 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, the Champion is pretty nice. I'm not sure if I can manage three nights out in a row - I am old, and need my rest - but I think I'll give it a try.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 12 May 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

So I'm off in a couple of hours. I'll probably do the easy everything just to check in at least once before hitting the Pint Pot on Thursday. See some of you then!

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I now won't be out tonight cos I'm feeling a bit sniffly and need to save myself for a birthday do tomorrow - sorry Carey, have fun though all of you!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 15 May 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Ummm, please don't hate me...I'm not going to be able to make it either. :(

I really did want to come, will make it out again soon!

sorrysorrysorry (especially to Carey!- Have Fun!)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i shall be there

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 15 May 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

And me! See you at 8!

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 15 May 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

have fun tonight kidz, can't make it unforch

j0e (j0e), Thursday, 15 May 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I shall be there about 9.00-9.30ish. Possibly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 May 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

And I can't do it neither. Babysitting entire family (read: making pasta bake, putting it in oven, pretending to enjoy it).

Saturday night I'll be emotionally smashed, but maybe. Just... maybe.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 15 May 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh I didn't realise stuff was on on Sat (can't make tonight for Quatermass purposes), I might be able to make that...

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 15 May 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a date on sat also but it is not "romantic" (= a member of the rub mob in fact) so i may try and force her to encounter interweb mentalists from acrost the sea

sadly tonight like sarah i have a date with bernard q (ok bernard is as good a name as any, inc.my own but it is neverthless somehow komikal that quatermass's first name is bernard — i cannot explain this prejudice on my part)

*notices small figure GOING THROUGH THE WALL and completely loses it*

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 15 May 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll come in and say hi to carey as I'm just 5 mins walk from the pint pot but I won't be able to stay too long as usual.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 15 May 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I turned up at about 11.20, a little late given that I work 50 yards from the Pint Pot, but I had a dear friend's birthday drink to go to first. Carey is fantastic, so I recommend that everyone who couldn't come tonight comes to the Champion on Saturday.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 16 May 2003 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Carey roxx u r all gay.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 May 2003 07:11 (twenty-two years ago)

yes we are.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 16 May 2003 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I had fun. I suppose I missed Martin by minutes, shame.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

*throws water all over mark whilst prodding with steel cable*

OUT DAMMED MARTIANG! OUT!

Sorry to have missed you kids. Who sang what?

Sarah (starry), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Hopkins did Going Underground, which was good even if I do hate the song.

Mark C did Lose Yourself with r0x0red and had drunken lecherous rugby twats dancing around in the pub, and Good Vibrations, which is probably the hardest song to sing ever.

Pete did Shut Up by Kelly Osborne, and some other things that my poor brane can't remember because it was concentrating on the football.

Carey did White Wedding, which RAWKED almost as much as StevieT's, but in an entirely different way.

I did nothing.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and Gareth did Hot In Herre by Nelly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that a LIE?

Sarah (starry), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I alsodid Centrefold for old times sake, and Carey's version of these Boots Were Made For Walking also rocked. As did Franz's admittedly poorly remembered version of the Cutting Crew Calssic "These Boots Were Made For Walking". Mark C also tried to out Jam Hopkins with A Town Called Makice, but Hopko had gone by then.

Much fun with the bar staff who were coinstantly arbitrarily deciding if the Mild was on or off. It was nummy. Shame about the rest of the pub.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 16 May 2003 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)

the pint pot is the worst pub in london surely

gareth (gareth), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:02 (twenty-two years ago)

There are worse, but not many (two worse pubs face each other across Whitechapel Road).

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Jam Hopkins is my weekend funk alias. Outed!

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Well for one there at 96 Wetherspoons in the Greater London area which are worse. But I wouldn't drink at the PP if it weren't for the karaoke and the late doors opening.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:09 (twenty-two years ago)

pshaw! It's not even in Camden, how bad can it be? Nothing like that Rockabilly pub, surely...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Jam Hopkins loves the tiger-striped pub in Whitechapel I heard.

chris (chris), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, when he's not in the metal plated one across the road. Some people say he's my double and some even say we're the same.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I call him the space cowboy, which is why the metal plated pub with the knbock down booze signs is his favouite boozehouse

chris (chris), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds like it was a good night (oh and i'm glad other people noticed the crapness of the Pint Pot), will try and make it tomorrow night (*wonder where The Champion is*)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Here you go Stevem (and everyone else):

http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub1035.htm

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The Champion is the dark horse of the Sam Smith's family, it's in the same place all the other ones are i.e. Soho.

Worst-looking drinking place in London: Spoofer's Bar on the Holloway Road.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going to nominate Waxys as the WORST pub in London - it's like some horrible overcrowded hybrid of O'Neills and Hogwarts.

Although the tree and its Tardis-esque dimensions are very entertaining.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

That should've gone on the other pubs thread.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

(Champion not in Soho error). Reload ILx.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

You're right of course Pete.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone here ever been to the City of Paris in Globe Town?

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I seriously doubt that they have. If indeed someone 'fesses up , I will buy them a pint, not in the City of Paris though.

chris (chris), Friday, 16 May 2003 09:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris, we're going there one day. We are. I'm betting it'll be better than the Approach.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm scared Tim, real scared.

OK, let me get my head shaved first.

chris (chris), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

We're going there, soon.

Oh and I was talking to someone who's been to that other commented-upon scary pub round there (you know the one I mean) and he says it doesn't close on Friday nights / Saturday mornings. Wow.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I do know the one I mean, and that just adds to its scary nature. To be honest, that one scares me more than the C.O.P.

And who the hell that you know has been there?

chris (chris), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

East End geezer 'Arry the 'Ammer. With his mate Bluey the 'Orse.

But we're going there too.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

*tremble*

chris (chris), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Count me in for this trip. I wuv rough pubs.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Carey et al, I think I am going to miss you for a second time!! Apologies for this, and have a nice time everyone...

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 17 May 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

where is Globe Town?

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 17 May 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

globe town is mile end/bow way

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 17 May 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, between bethnal green and mile end, by the roman road

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=535380&y=182769&z=1&sv=digby&st=6&tl=Digby+Street,+London,+E_2&searchp=newsearch.srf&mapp=newmap.srf

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 17 May 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

don't think I'll make it tonight but it was nice meeting you carey. have fun tonight and a good trip back to the US.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 17 May 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

So I'm taking it it's still the Champion for tonight? Gotta lay off the Guiness though. I think those 5 pints I had was enough calories for a couple of days. I could barely button my jacket the next day. Tim, Pete, Gareth, Mark C., Matt DC, Julio, Martin and pinefox were unabelievably wonderful (come slap me if I forgot anyone). Maybe I am easily entertained but it was so great (but Franz keeps telling me I am an amazingly crap singer.)

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 17 May 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

haha carey you're not as crap as mark C ;-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 17 May 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

yea, i should be at champion later on tonite, i got a few things to sort out first, i'll check back on here later on and see what the ku is

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 17 May 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there at about 8.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 17 May 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry I didn't make it in the end... hope it was a good night nonetheless...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 19 May 2003 07:14 (twenty-two years ago)

yea it was pretty good. i got there around, what, 9? and carey and franz were with martin, we kind of wondered where the hell everyone else was! tim h, ed and suzy appeared quite a bit later on, and we soldiered on to bar 101/centrepoint thing whatever

sunday, i went down to bricklayers arms with carey and franz, and then on to the electricity showrooms. it was nice, but it was a bit cold to be drinking outside i think. somebody asked me if i was an artist. i said no

gareth (gareth), Monday, 19 May 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth,is that what those girls were talking about? You should've said you were an artist of luuuvvvv.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 19 May 2003 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Only in Hoxton would that have worked as a chat up line.

Great to meet you. 101 seemed to be full of 16 year olds its owned by V1nce P0wer so what do you expect. We only went in there because they wouldn't let us in the spanish bar, but possibly only because I went down the stairs first.

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 May 2003 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

"Not as crap as Mark C"?!? Julio, I challenge you to a SOUNDCLASH!

Carey was, of course, unbelievably wonderful too. What a good evening Thursday was!

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 19 May 2003 09:03 (twenty-two years ago)

haha mark you'd beat me to a pulp.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 19 May 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Or at least at a Pulp song.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 19 May 2003 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I wanted to write a little thank you post to everyone that I met last week who were utterly wonderful. It was such a feast of nice hair and off key singing and nice smelling leather and bruised ribs and oj drinking and isn't Kelly Osbourne's Shut Up the greatest song ever when sung by Pete and damn Gareth's a little taller than I expected.

Although I was quite zombie-ish for most of my too short vacation, it was a blast and Franz and I salute you.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Was I the one with the nice hair?

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

You were the one with nice everything.

Mark C. of course you were the one with the hurty ribs. I missed you and the pinefox on Saturday. But at least I got to see probably the best karaoke version of Lose Yourself north of the river.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry i missed all the fun

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice smelling leather. You could smell my thong through my trousers?

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

It was delightful to meet you and Franz, too.

All those good things have been invalidated by Pete's post, which has made me queasy.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry i too missed the above fun...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I can wear the thong again. Or were you refering to Carey & Franz?

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that how you hit those high notes?

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't remember hiting any high notes. I remember trying to.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

You shouldn't have lent me your leather thong then.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

It was funny when you used it to do a Momus impression.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought that was John Shuttleworth?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

My Momus impression = taking your thong off to reveal the glory of your lad-truncheon in the middle of the Pint Pot.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Whilst wearing said thong as an eyepatch. You haven't got crabs on your eyelashes now have you?

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Good God, Pete really is the UK me.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 21 May 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
OK, I wasn't going to revive this (thus the lateness) because I am only going to be in London a very short amount of time, but since I realized there would be no other way for me to see all the great people that I met last time...

Not necessarily a FAP, but since the pints will be fancied, I guess it's a given. I am going to be in London Friday and Saturday and part of Sunday. I am fuming that I will miss Thursday night karaoke at the "worst pub in London", but am still hoping some of you may be available for a drink. I am thinking Friday 6ish, 7ish after work crowd. I would name a place, but I'll just say something in the eastend. So maybe someone can name a place off the Oxford or Tottenham path.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Come to SOAS.

The Windmill!

Brickies!

Etc etc

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Carey I've e-mailed you at the Flembach address.... is that the right one? I won't be available on Friday or Saturday nights, sorry.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 08:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I've emailed you too, Carey.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 08:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i havent, i just couldnt be bothered

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

but you have my number, right?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I'm drinking down SOAS for a bit but can make it to - say The Brickies for sevenish I reckon. (Gresse Street, of Stephen Street - Blur producer and London thoroughfare - just off TCR).

And as you well know, I know where its at. And can use both my voices to put up the illusion of being more than one person.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, yes to all that. Even if it's just you Pete, at least I won't have to talk to Franz all night. (just kidding)

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I might be up for it on Friday. Why is everyone being secretive and sending Carey emails?

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Shit, why didn't I send Carey a secret e-mail. Now Mark C might come.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

shhhhh!!!

*cough*

I have no clue what you are talking about Mark C. Oh BTW, we are actually meeting at this pub in Cockfosters. I will send directions later.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I emailed Carey because I wanted to give her my phone number in case we could manage to catch up with each other, also because the reason I'm out of town is not something I want to discuss on the board.

Why do you ask?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

hi london!!

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG, do you have for us the votes from the Scottish jury?

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

rjg should come to london too.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

if i get over this bug (*cough*) i will come out to play

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh, I'm pretty sure I can make Friday, Carey! Great! I'll look forward to seeing you!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Have a great time Carey!

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary, as soon as I get back I will give you the secret signal to send another NY Ilxor in my place. Tracer Hand no longer counts.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha, I wonder who will receive the baton?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm guessing his initials may be MD.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, I'm not sure if he is in NYC - I'm not very good at remembering who lives where over there.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah yes, we will we prep the mysterious MD for London duty.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

NIL POINTS.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

SCOTLAND.

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I *should* be able to make this late doors, but if not, have a great time :)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 18 September 2003 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be in the car gog up North - sorry

chris (chris), Thursday, 18 September 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

so is there a fap tomorrow night?! i'm confused...

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 18 September 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, at the Bricklayers which I believe is sort of round the back of the BFI. I shall be there early, before 6.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 18 September 2003 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I might go to London next year.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 18 September 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Erm, I'm gonna be in London in a few weeks time but I'm too shy to attempt to arrange a FAP....*flutters eyelids*

smee (smee), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I might go to London next year.
Now that would be a fap to end all faps! It's one I'd have to be at!That's a shame smee, it would be nice to meet you in person!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks Pink but how do you know it would be nice? I could be hideously unsightly and have bad personal hygiene....;0)

smee (smee), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

That's ok, I'd have a cold & wouldn't be able to smell you anyway! ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh well then in that case.....

smee (smee), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

*cheers*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 19 September 2003 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

So what actually is going on this evening?

Anna (Anna), Friday, 19 September 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

there should def. be an FASmee

stevem (blueski), Friday, 19 September 2003 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

FAP Brickies from sixish (Unless you want Martin so sit on his ownsome for an hour). Special American guest stars Carey (and Franz).

Bricklayers on Gresse Street, off Stephen Street off TCR. We might be upstairs or round the back.+

Pete (Pete), Friday, 19 September 2003 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Anna - it's here.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 19 September 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Carey, I'm sorry I can't make this.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 19 September 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks stevem & pinkp I'm heading down that way on business 2&3 October and my and the boyf figured we'd be as well making a weekend of it so I ain't heading back home till 5th. I'd love to meet some ILXers, so if anyone FAP please let me know...

smee (smee), Friday, 19 September 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

PS - Sorry for using your thread for this Carey, I just don't think it merits its own.

smee (smee), Friday, 19 September 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I ain't gonna miss anything at home tonight (Fingers x'ed), so hopefully I'll be making it down there at some point...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 19 September 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm having my appraisal this afternoon (and thus knocking off early), so i'm likely to be at the Brickies for 5 or thereabouts.

what's that i see on the horizon? oh yes i see...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 19 September 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

what's that i see on the horizon? oh yes, the Oxford Tube...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 19 September 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh shit, I cant make that w/e Smee, I've got some big girlie reunion thing going on. Damnit. I'll see if I can make it on the 3rd, but i doubt it. :-( have a great time anyway. Stevem will look after u!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 19 September 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, nae bother - it was just a thought - I'll maybe mention it again nearer the time.

smee (smee), Friday, 19 September 2003 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah definitely do that smee, you know this lot'll be up for it! :-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 19 September 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Smee, don't let this drop - I'm pretty sure I'll be free on the 3rd at least - I'm on a training course that finishes on the 2nd, so I'm not sure how good that day will be. Probably okay too, to be honest.

I'll be at the Brickies betwee 5.30 and 6 tonight.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 19 September 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks Martin, I'll mention it closer to when I'm flying down - enjoy tonight!

smee (smee), Friday, 19 September 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

you heard him! be twee!

RJG (RJG), Friday, 19 September 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this in Hoxton? Make sure to stop at the Hoxton Boutique, Carey.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 19 September 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

no its not the Hoxton one (thankfully) - i'm listening to Siegbran's latest mix now and sort of wish we were going clubbing

stevem (blueski), Friday, 19 September 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, it's a chain?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

nope just two pubs called the Bricklayers.

Ed (dali), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

They could very well be tied to the same brewery or owned by the same pubco.

Ed (dali), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I would like to meet the Smee but it is a week after she visits that I arrive. :-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

(March or April next year)

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 20 September 2003 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

tonight's FAP was good - good turnout. the Brickies is small so ILX basically dominated the entire floor. most people went off after closing but some of us went to the Spanish Bar that is actually a Jamaican Bar but is really only any good on a Tuesday night it would seem...then Gareth and I desperately searched for somewhere else decent to drink when that got boring/too busy...with only fleeting success. great to meet Carey and Franz tho, didn't get a chance to meet/speak to Mandee properly but maybe next time.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 20 September 2003 02:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes I was extremely disappointed with the so-called New Spanish Bar, a level of ruin was however achieved, I'm very glad I didn't get home and post all the things I thought of posting on the tube. In classic Tom fashion I completely didn't talk to the new people :( - sorry Carey and Franz (and Mandee).

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 20 September 2003 07:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry foax! I didn't know this was on (and had made other plans anyway). I probably wouldn't have been great value for money, I had a funeral that day and was v tired and feeling a bit odd. I got followed home by a creepy guy, ugh!! I felt v shaky afterwards. Grah.

Sarah (starry), Saturday, 20 September 2003 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, like sorry I don't make many FAPs...I aim for a 1 in 4 or a 1 in 3 ratio...I dunno, I just can't face the tube sometimes and the bus takes forever.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 20 September 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

read a music magazine jel! ;)

(actually anything but that)

nice seeing carey again and chatting to her (even tho' it was brief).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 20 September 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

since i got there in time for but a pint and a half of fatman, and managed to resist the charms of i. a david gedge indie disco and ii. the spanish bar, i can only aver, as of this morning, "ruin thy name is pressure headache" (here's what i hate: indian summers)

for some reason the bricklayers reminds me of my gran's house in welwyn garden city

(on the way home i discussed with rainy by the magic of trans-global txting the politics of eating falafel on double-decker buses - it appears there is only a single DDB in all of dunedin, which is a dirty damn shame)

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 20 September 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, it was pretty good - got to meet several nice new people, who were all lovely - nu-spanish bar was a bit of a letdown (they told the harmonica man off for playing his harmonica, which was a bit of a shame, and the DJ seemed to be quite sensible with their funky house or whatever it was), but at least I managed to get home on one nightbus this time (albeit after asking a policeman which road I was meant to get it from, and him telling me to walk to Trafalgar Square, which I knew was bobbins...)

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 20 September 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

a good evening - sorry i didn't make it over to the other side of the room, i really meant to talk to carey/mandee + indeed gareth + steve.

i'm sorry if i took the piss out of alan too much, i think i'd mistaken you for mark c.

i think the free jazz/indie analogies should be pushed much further.

how did the indie night go?

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 20 September 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

jel i don't take the tube to FAPs...so there's no excuse (actually this is a lie, i take it overground but not under - THEN the bus) ;)

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 20 September 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

mark s ruffled my hair btw - what's THAT about?!?!

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 20 September 2003 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

ineluctable hottness

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 20 September 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

''i think the free jazz/indie analogies should be pushed much further.''

have you no sense?! ;-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 20 September 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

a good evening - sorry i didn't make it over to the other side of the room, i really meant to talk to carey/mandee + indeed gareth + steve.

I like how me and carey get lumped together here.

mandee, Wednesday, 24 September 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

well, you were the only people there i hadn't met before! that's all i meant.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a great time. Thanks London and alcohol!

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I had fun, too.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I would have had fun, fwiw.

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

"I would like to meet the Smee but it is a week after she visits that I arrive. :-( "

Awww, thanx Ned, you never know, cheap Easyjet flights and whatever I might make it to a FAP you are attending one day...

As it turns out I will now be staying in wonderful Milton Keynes this weekend (oh joy....). I'm not sure of the travelling time/distance, especially worried about the intricacies of getting back to Milton Keynes in a drunken state...but if anyone wants to meet up for a wee pint or two this weekend, please shout out....

smee (smee), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

"Milton Keynes, wank wank wank, Milton Keynes, wank wank wank"

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm, I hope that's a reaction to the crap places my work sends me for training and no a dig at moi, coz my fragile ego may crumble...

smee (smee), Monday, 6 October 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Smee, Mark is angry at his football team decamping to MK, so MK gets a hard ride from him. I'm sure it is nothing at all to do with you.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 6 October 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Cheers Martin, I thought it was a bit of an extreme outburst! My taxi driver explained the football thing actually - he has my sympathy.

smee (smee), Monday, 13 October 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I was gonna tell you about Mark's loathing of MK due to a certain footie team, but I see Martin has already explained!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 13 October 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

there was no FASmee in the end? dammit

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Everytime I check this thread now I'm confused about whether I am coming to London again.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 13 October 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

we just can't believe you're gone

stevem (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

and we are hoping to trick you into returning.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 13 October 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry Carey, next time I visit London I vow to pluck up the courage to start my own thread about it, honest.

smee (smee), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 10:27 (twenty-two years ago)
