I saw a trailer for the upcoming "reality" doc on Mrs Beckham. She is sooooooooo tiny! I mean, shit, I knew she was, but not that petite. She was chatting (hah!) with Perez Hilton.
― nathalie, Thursday, 12 July 2007 09:38 (eighteen years ago)
she looks reliably freaky and weird all the time, and dresses horribly, but i can't hate on her.
can't really imagine her in nu-spice girls reunion thing - i mean, will they get away with shoving her to the back and never letting her open her mouth now that she's the most famous of them all?

xpost Yes, it's quite funny. The one that didn't really "matter" has suddenly pushed to the forefront. And, yes, she's a total freak, in a tiny buggy kinda way. I wanted to crawl under the seat when she first tried to convince PerezHilton she didn't have big tits and then proceeded to say she did eat. She didn't state how frequently. Clever girl.

I saw about ten minutes of this last night, I thought she came across quite well, really. Then again, I have a perception of her that could do with some challenging, I'm guessing yer average American doesn't really give a shit.
― ailsa, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 06:34 (eighteen years ago)
How do you mean, challenging? I quite like her in a "look at how crazy she is" kinda way. She seems one of those batshit pill-popping uber-rich wrinkly widows who want their maid to peel the grapes because there's no vitamines but too many calories in the skin. She's obviously so self-obsessed and self-centered that she doesn't realize anymore what's real and what's not. I'm assuming she thinks that she has to put up this show, because that's what people want (instead of what the media actually wants).
I saw the trailer and she looked such a Barbie.
Five million? Veronica Mars would have killed for those ratings (instead of solved a crime). hah.
― nathalie, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 07:33 (eighteen years ago)
five live had their man in la talking about her and the show last night. basically, yeah in Hollywood no-one gives a crap. There she is the wife of someone not especially interesting who is fairly good at a sport no-one understands or cares to.
ignorant and attention-seeking, the only person interested in her is her.
― Uptoeleven, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 08:37 (eighteen years ago)
She's trying too hard in such a lovely, British sort of way. Kind of like how The Stones and the Yardbirds tried SOOO hard on those old blues records.

and i think nbc already gave up on the show.

I thought it was a one off?
― onimo, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)
It was just a one-off; NBC executives regained some amount of sanity and realized that the only people who cared about it were regular watchers of E! Television.
― HI DERE, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)
i can't believe that station still exists.
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)
i believe it was meant to be a six-parter originally but a combination of the producers realising what a waste of time the show was, and her coming back to the uk (sorta defeats the point filming her in britain) meant they didn't have enough to turn into a series. so cut it early.
don't ask me how i know this shit; i don't care about any of it, am just unemployed and an insatiable consumer of news media and sometimes shit like this gets through.
― Uptoeleven, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 15:00 (eighteen years ago)
NBC's second-highest rated comedy is the Office, which averaged about 8.7 million viewers, and that's during the actual tv season.
NBC's Last Comic Standing averaged about 4.8 million viewers in the summer last season, and it's currently in it's fifth one.
It wasn't a major disaster for NBC or anything. Not great, but for them, that's still pretty good.

(Well, I had a brainmelt when one female presenter said her fave band was Joy Division. WAH?)
― nathalie, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 15:29 (eighteen years ago)
E! Television exists b/c it is the only station that gets LA! Or, more correctly, HOLLYWOOD! The only side of LA that matters, rite?
I have news, and I have said this before - all the reality shows or sitcoms or dramas and most of the movies that are based in and around Southern California are all entirely correct, authentic, and real. With the possible exception of Mitch, Butchie, Shaun, John, Cissy, Kai and the gang in Imperial Beach.
The Real Housewives of Orange County? My buddy from law school's parents live in that neighborhood, and they reportedly left OUT a lot of the really embarassing stuff.
I love this town. It feels like I'm riding the bomb on the way down. Where the grass is green (if your gardener is good), and the girls are pretty (with assists from tanning shops, botox, plastic surgery, and eating disorders.)
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 18 July 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)
i'm sad to say that i got obsessed with the real housewives of the oc.
― lauren, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)
And yes...Vicky B. is driving SUCH an LA car, its amazing. And I think that, to a large extent, her presence is the reason that Becks is making so much money out of this deal. He wasn't broke before, and that was largely due to his big game heroics with England and Man U., but this type of move requires couple-wattage star power, and they've got it.
For my part, I think she's fun, albeit reeking of effort at this point. She'll integrate herself into the LA landscape....at least it will be easy to spot her at Galaxy games.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 18 July 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)
haha, this was good!
― admrl, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

That said, I was packing moving boxes while it was on so I didn't really watch it properly.
― admrl, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)
Mega xxxxxxxpost to Nathalie:
I mean that my perception of her could do with "challenging" in that I would think what you said, i.e. "She seems one of those batshit pill-popping uber-rich wrinkly widows who want their maid to peel the grapes because there's no vitamines but too many calories in the skin. She's obviously so self-obsessed and self-centered that she doesn't realize anymore what's real and what's not. I'm assuming she thinks that she has to put up this show, because that's what people want (instead of what the media actually wants). " but that's not actually necessarily the case.
Obviously it doesn't *need* to be challenged, but she doesn't come across like that at all, really, and is pretty much a PR disaster, which is kind of rotten when you're one of the most famous people in Britain. And I kind of go ridiculously batshit overboard on unimportant celebs (I would totally watch E! btw, if I could be arsed) so this kind of thing is interesting diversionary entertainment and I get some sort of inexplicable pleasure out of celeb-watching. Except that I didn't really watch the Victoria Beckham because I was too busy watching the next load of unimportant celebs-in-waiting on the other side. But I saw enough to give her credit for either being less vacuous than I thought or more media-savvy than I'd given her credit for. Either way, I think more of her now than I did last week.
― ailsa, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)
Which, I guess, was the point of the programme. Shame I'm not American, really.
― ailsa, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)
What I saw of this programme was pretty good, certainly on a par with Borat. She was surprisingly witty when looking at Lionel Richie's old house.
Hopefully this will come out on DVD with "Moving to Madrid" in removal van-shaped packaging.
I am looking forward to the Beckhma bit next week.
Who is Simon Fuller? Isn't he the nasty one on X Factor? Is he really Beckham's manager, or have I been dreaming again?
― PJ Miller, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 18:11 (eighteen years ago)
Nasty one on X-Factor = Simon Cowell. Simon Fuller was the manager of the Spice Girls. Beckham's manager, in a footballing sense, is Alexei Lalas, who is an American ex-footballer who used to look like the bloke from the Spin Doctors. That's someone American, who used to play football, not someone who used to play American football. And by bloke from the Spin Doctors, I mean those goons that sang Two Princes, not, like, Alistair Campbell or something.
Clear?
