Mike Hanle y (mike), Friday, 23 May 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

a friend had been badgering me for a while to sign up. so i did. and it's lame.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 23 May 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

thought it was cool for a minute, then realized it was sixdegrees.com with more pictures, which makes it more interesting for about 30 seconds.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 23 May 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

nothing tops nerve personals.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 23 May 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I am a mazed how many of my freinds suddenly are appearing on it though. is it sweepin the nation?

Mike Hanle y (mike), Friday, 23 May 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

It's very slow for me, so I get bored quickly. I only like it because I posted my current favourite picture of myself on it.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 23 May 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

It runs SO FUCKING SLOWLY too. And my friend keeps suggesting matches between me and these people I couldn't give two shits about. It's a dud.

And yeah, loads of my "friends" are on there. No one I'm close to though.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 23 May 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

It's better than Nerve, free and less pressure. It also got me laid. Nerve did too, but it seemed like much more work.

Chris H. (chrisherbert), Friday, 23 May 2003 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i think the point of it is to harvest more addresses for the important penis growing information that is being shared these days

duane (lucylurex), Friday, 23 May 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Mike Hanle y (mike), Saturday, 24 May 2003 03:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I get those all spams all the time too, duane. 'Cept i have a huge cock so the innernet doesn't know shit.

Did you get the tape?

petra jane (petra jane), Saturday, 24 May 2003 04:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Hanle y you disappoint me.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 24 May 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I've just signed up, but I couldn't bring myself to invite friends - that would be a long list of people who would want nothing to do with the site, I think. I'm just keen on the dating element really.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 24 May 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

haha there is a menu option reading 'Edit Friends'! I'll make this one a bit taller I think...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 24 May 2003 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

If anyone wants to be my friend, email me.

That Girl (thatgirl), Saturday, 24 May 2003 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

If anyone wants to be my friend, buy me a drink.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 24 May 2003 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

There's nothing left to dissapoint DASTOOR. Oh , and by the way , take a look in your foxbag, I think you'll find a nice little erection.

Mike Hanle y (mike), Sunday, 25 May 2003 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I was talking to someone today who signed up for an internet trivia-game community that operates on some kind of buddy network. He hasn't really spent much time at the site yet, but the last time he did log in he got a message saying "YOU HAVE 0 FRIENDS." That made him sad.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 25 May 2003 03:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be his friend.

Mike Hanle y (mike), Sunday, 25 May 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

JBR, that made me laugh a lot :)

Mark C (Mark C), Sunday, 25 May 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

One of my friends recently invited me to the site so I signed up and then I just had to invite some other people so I wouldn't have only one friend. I think it's kind of neat because you discover pretty quickly that a lot of your friends are connected to each other in various ways. It's like a big friendly web of love or something. But maybe it's just cause everyone in my entire city seems to be on there (or is it that popular everywhere?).

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

if anyone wants to push me over the 50 friends mark, use my yahoo email address to look for me on dat dere Friendsta thingy.

hstencil, Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I gots 8 friends only cuz I'm so shy.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

well I'd love to be your friend, if I'm worthy.

hstencil, Tuesday, 27 May 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

will you be my friendster friend Sarah?

hstencil, Tuesday, 27 May 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be your friend, Sarah!

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm hstencil's 50th. i feel so dirty.

JasonD (JasonD), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

dude, you're like number one in my heart.

hstencil, Wednesday, 28 May 2003 02:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Friendster needs some tweakin though... I suppose it is still in the design stages or whatever, so I guess it can be forgiven. I especially dislike that you can mark yourself as "in a relationship," but you can't actually indicate that one of the friends in your "personal network" is actually your SO.

I have already seen at least one person meet somebody to hang out with through it though, so there's got to be something at least marginally useful. Of course, like anything else it sorta requires that at least one person be the kind of person who would email a stranger based on a description on the internet.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

of person who would email a stranger based on a description on the internet.

and, ahem, no one here would do that. *whistles*

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I just signed up for this today, because I got an e-mail that said: "Reminder, your friend [So-and-So] invited you to join Friendster." I sort of resented the fact that it pestered me like a week after my initial invitation, but then I figured what the hey. Now apparently I have a Personal Network of like 48 people, but I only seem to know 2 of them, and the rest of 'em look like total dorks.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

dude like be my friend jaymc!

hstencil, Wednesday, 28 May 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

it's in the works! (or at least, I invited you to be my friend. do I have to do something else to be yours?)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

(you can use this e-mail address.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

fucking awesome dude. you rule. hey you know that nicolas is on there too.

hstencil, Wednesday, 28 May 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

kick ass!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw him up at Bard last Friday.

hstencil, Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool, cool. Didja mention me?? He's hardly ever in Chicago anymore. (Hey, but I think that's his old e-mail on Friendster. I don't think it'll go through.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

whaddaya mean he's hardly in Chicago? He told me he still works at Comiskey and Wrigley!

hstencil, Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

NICOLAS: FLY ALL IS KNOWN

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I know. I just mean, he goes to NY pretty frequently. Like every couple months or so. I also haven't seen him since his birthday in April.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah it's the second time I've seen him this year, both kinda random. Wish the dude would freakin' call sometime.

hstencil, Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Tracer: ??

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

don't worry jaymc, he's just being a mentalist (per the usual).

hstencil, Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth, Zoe, Yanc3y and hstencil are my friends! YAY!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

link (friendster sounds like a subtle (and perhaps manipulatable?) panopticon i.e. if everyone knows everyone else the gossip gets exponential too and hence sensitivity and barricading from it)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

dude your level of participation is up to you.

(and Ally sez I'm paranoid!)

hstencil, Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"dude your level of participation is up to you" = the DEFINITION of the panopticon's particular system of control

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

yes i know i am taking this too far

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

unless this whole friendster thing was thought up by the folks at the INFORMATION AWARENESS OFFICE!

*cue spooky music*

hstencil, Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

This Friendster thing better get me laid or I'm suing.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 29 May 2003 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

It seems that, at 31, I'm the oldest person on Friendster -- everybody else is about 25, 26, 27 or so. Or maybe this is only true for the circles I've been travelling in.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 29 May 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahem, Michael! I'm on it, and I'm 44 in a week and a half!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 May 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got like 2 friends. I'm waiting to be approved for friend status with #3. It's just like real life!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 29 May 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I am surprised by this

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I now have two friends as well! Thanks to Michael Daddino and Hstencil! I am no longer friendless!

What was the point again?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Now you fuck them.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Errrrr... I was just gonna offer to be Martin's friend too but Yanc3y's crosspost has scared me.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I have not fucked any of my friendsters. Well, except for the one who is an ex-girlfriend.

I've got like 62 friends, most of whom I never see or talk to. It's just like real life!

hstencil, Thursday, 29 May 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh my Gawd, some girl in Cincinatti wants to meet me! Cuz one of my interests was "climbing on water towers and stuff" and she's like "hey, I climb water towers!".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 29 May 2003 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

It must be true love nick.

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 29 May 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Some ridiculously cute girl in Louisville wants to meet me. She emailed me right after we were there for the Derby. : (

hstencil, Thursday, 29 May 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Friends of mine have gotten laid from makeoutclub... I'm sure it could happen on Friendster too. But changing the name to "Fuckster" would prolly help.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 29 May 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

quick, copyright that name Aaron!

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 29 May 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope Martin is my friend!

Sarah MClusky (coco), Thursday, 29 May 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope so too, Sarah. Ooh, good, more friends on the site, including Sarah and Aaron! Hurrah!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 May 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I've had a couple of friend requests from people I'm not sure I know. If it's under a name I don't know, can you let me know who you are? I expect I'm just failing to recognise ILXers!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 May 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

So I signed up and my first thought upon seeing "Shopping" listed in the nav menu at the top was...

"You can buy friends?"

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 30 May 2003 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and I am friendless. *hint* *nudge* *grovel*

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 30 May 2003 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Misled by its name, I was hoping Frienster would be a P2P program with which you could illegally download friends.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 30 May 2003 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I have friends! Thanks Mike and Chaki!

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 30 May 2003 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be your friend too Chris, except I am writing this from work so won't be able to sort that out until tonight. Also, much as I adore all my lovely American friends, are there no other UK people on it?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 30 May 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm on it! As is Archel - she's one of my friends, in fact.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 30 May 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(as is Mark C, too)

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 30 May 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah and I'll take new friends, 'bring em on!

Archel (Archel), Friday, 30 May 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Chaki's on friendster? I no can find he. :(

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 30 May 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin, I sent you one.
If anyone else wants to be my friend, they can find me through Sarah or Nickalicious.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 30 May 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth is a (UK person) on Friendster.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

What is the point of this? Don't I talk to you people all the time?

teeny (teeny), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, like I'm signing up for this, coz a pal emailed me about it, but I don't really get what it's all about.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to just add everyone, but I'm scared.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you actually GET anything for signing up for this?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

A warm feeling?

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

You get to feel popular! For unpopular people like me it's really handy.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The warm caress of spam.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

add me, or something, i'm "the jel"

jel -- (jel), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

some girl messaged me to say yo i like colombo too

number 38, Friday, 30 May 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone able to add jel yet? I can't find him.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 30 May 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm in a fancy network! I'll add you bryan!

I'll just all ilxers on this thread! (if that's okay)

jel -- (jel), Friday, 30 May 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, I've added like 3 people so far, I'll do the rest later (as I don't really get what I'm doing yet!!).

jel -- (jel), Friday, 30 May 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

A testimonial is on the way, jel.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 30 May 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil Lynott is asking to be my friend, and I just don't know about the wisdom of befriending zombies.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 30 May 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

DO IT

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 30 May 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Plus, one of my exes" (if you could call him that -- he just stopped returning phone calls or IMs without warning after a few weeks) is on this thing and out of the hundreds available, he's like one of the most sympatico connections out there. DAMN.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 30 May 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoa! That rules! I just asked Phil to be my friend... I hope he sez yes!

Brian, you are now officially my friend.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 30 May 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Conrad from Trail of Dead's on there too.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 30 May 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

But he's no Phil Fucking Lynott, that's for damn sure.

I just found 3 ex's on there. Fun!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 30 May 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool! I can get to my cousin thru both Yanc3y in 4 steps and hstencil in 3!

I bet if everyone in the world were on this thing, we could try out the 5 steps of seperation thing for real.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 30 May 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

How through me?

You can get to Conrad through me in two steps.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw Wesley Willis on there.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yanc-- Me > Yancey > gigi > g marie > Bj (my cousin)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll ask gigi about that.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm gonna add your cousin aaron w! (well he is kinda one of my interests)

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

ALRIGHT FINE I'M JOINING BUT THIS IS GOING TO RUIN MY STANDINGS IN NATION STATES. I can't pay attention to all of these internet fads, jesus.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

errr... maybe not!

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahaha... Gygax is interested in my cousin. Here is his profile. He's wearing the rubberband in the pic.

Nation States is so last week, Ally.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but it's already the end of this week--what will be next week's Friendster? Think about that as you rush to add people.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

ALL OF YOU BE MY FRIEND, I AM DEMANDING!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be your friend!

hstencil, Friday, 30 May 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Watch it hstencil, she's kind of demanding. Next thing you know you'll be doing her nails.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't find ally on there!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, I used the search function, and found ally.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

and thanks for the testimonial bryan!!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 30 May 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

MORE FRIENDS! Hurray! I'm Ally's friend! MORE FRIENDS! COLLECT THEM ALL!

Yeah, but it's already the end of this week--what will be next week's Friendster? Think about that as you rush to add people.

I'm sure it'll be back to this guy.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally, I couldn't add you as a friend. It asked me for yr email or full name yet when I tried entering these it said "incorrect". I've never had it ask me that before. (btw, your full name is Bitchy McBitch, right?)

That Girl (thatgirl), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Tracer knows, I made him brush my hair and play My Little Ponies with me last time I saw him.

Aaron I kiss you! You are now my favorite friend! I've been thinking about that website all week.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes! Phil wants to be my friend too!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I like My Little Pony! Plus you have nice hair.

hstencil, Friday, 30 May 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha, Ally, you just popped up on my "New People" thing (via Hstencil). This is fun!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron I kiss you! You are now my favorite friend! I've been thinking about that website all week.

He's what the internet was made for! And he's even selling t-shirts now!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder why it is doing that? It's doing that for me with certain people too (Daddino, jel, I'm looking at YOU). I will search for you and add you ddg!

stence, we should do that this weekend if you aren't busy.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, so should I feel weird about asking people I've never met to be my friend? Like, right now, the only ILXers I have as friends are Hstencil and Todd Swiss -- both of whom I've met. Okay, the latter for only five minutes at a FAP, but still.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's some kind of failsafe so you don't add too many people all at once, i.e. some cheeky person coming on and sending requests to hundreds of people they don't know in the span of 15 minutes or so. When I try to add two people in the same day I get that little request thingy for a full name or email addy.

But, I'm getting some weird error message when I try to approve Ally as my friend. INTERNET CODING is standing in the way of our friendship!!!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't feel weird! I've never met Phil but I love him just the same.

(Ok ddg, I can't find you on search. If you go back to my profile, I'm using email address garance80@yahoo.com)

Aaron, that means we can't play My Little Ponies now :(

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, some pple were already in my network! We are all made of stars or something. Oh my God, I'm getting high on friendship (I must go and pass some hideous new laws on nation states to calm down)

jel -- (jel), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

who the fuck is disco fries?

hstencil, Friday, 30 May 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally-- Let me know if the HTML code in my testimonial doesn't work and I'll write you a new one.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm very disappointed that this is not a friend download service.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think it works but it's cool anyway

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Awwww... I'll delete and try again.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Most of my friends on here I haven't met (Jel and Mark C are the exceptions, I think, and I've invited Gareth but no reply yet) - but I consider most ILXers friends anyway.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

my account got messed up! lost a testimonial and a friend!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I am already making a Friendster boyfriend! He is somehow connected to you, Aaron! Your friends-friends-friends are hounddawgs!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

What happened?? Who is it??

ILX has made Friendster a million times more fun. And it's way better than MOC. (Scroll to the bottom of the page... I need to find a new pic of me.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 30 May 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Looking at these statistics I'm wondering how many interconnected ILX friends it takes to be connected to most of friendster. I'm connected to 12545 already.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 30 May 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Friendster is the sex connection!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 30 May 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

is it wrong to want to only add people you have met?

RJG (RJG), Friday, 30 May 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

who the fuck is disco fries?

Jeez, you couldn't tell from the picture? Disco Fries is me; I jumped off the bridge.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 30 May 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah RJG, that's kind of a weird issue...I take it on a case-by-case basis. If I feel I can say something substanstive about a person's character -- regardless of whether I met them or not -- then I'll have no qualms about adding a person as a friend.

I mean, I feel close enough to Tom E. that I asked him to give me a recommendation letter for my co-op board, and I haven't met him!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 30 May 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

wahoo, I'm connected to 21,927 people!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 30 May 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

ha, hstencil is 2 degrees from an ex/good friend of mine.

bnw (bnw), Friday, 30 May 2003 21:10 (twenty-two years ago)

ha, I got an e-mail from Stuart Br4ithw4ite

... I shouldn't have... You shouldn't have... I shouldn't have...

Cozen (Cozen), Friday, 30 May 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

45,374 in my personal network, astounding!

anyone else who wants to be my "friend" is welcome to invite me or whatever.

todd swiss (eliti), Friday, 30 May 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

so finally bothered reading this thread and just signed up, so um what now? I just start e-mailing ppl i know to say sign up? i'm confused :(

H (Heruy), Friday, 30 May 2003 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Let the backlash begin! Ladies and gentlemen, we give you Fiendster

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 30 May 2003 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea what this is, I might try it though. it is saturday after all/

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 31 May 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

(There goes another one.)

Splash!

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 31 May 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be everyone's friend. I'll even be That Girl's friend, even though she and I root for opposing basketball teams and it would be akin to a Duran Duran fan and a Spandau Ballet fan becoming friends in early '80s England.

*looks around*

What?

Dee the Lurker (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 31 May 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Dee I would be yr friend too. I might even end up going for the Spurs despite my drunken, heart-broken ranting the other night. Really, who could cheer for some Yankees?

That Girl (thatgirl), Saturday, 31 May 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i am on please be my friend

anthony easton (anthony), Saturday, 31 May 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I just realized that since I don't own one of those armless t-shirts I musn't be gay after all.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 31 May 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

After that July 4th FAP, I'm gonna have SO many friendsters. Oh MY GoD! Yeah, ILX made it much more fun. And it's weird how many people I've invited that ended up already being on there somewhere.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Saturday, 31 May 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I always knew you were straight, Michael, ever since your refusal to go Guido for me.

Who has not become my friend? I demand to know who is on Friendster and has not become my friend! I will testify for you all! TESTIFY!

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 31 May 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Awwwwwww...

*feels like patting That Girl on the back*

That's ok, girl. Believe me, I'm used to the heartache of seeing your favorite team's playoff dreams go down in flames. And I think I've sniped at enough people in my time. Believe me, you root for whomever team you want to root for, although it would be nice to see you root for the Spurs during this stretch out of division loyalty.

Um, but do I have to do the Friendster thing? :)

Dee the Lurker (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 1 June 2003 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

wahoo! Adam Ant is my friend!

I'm your pal! I'm your buddy! So, like add me to your list or something.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 1 June 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

So...any successes yet?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 1 June 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

If anyone wants to add me to their list my hotmail username is j_bdules.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Sunday, 1 June 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you guys are doing something wrong. According to an article coming up in the Voice, people are getting dates, having one-night stands, etc. Meanwhile, all ILE is doing is affirming its relationship to eachother. Hmm....

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 1 June 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

EXCUSE ME! Along with the aimless flirting I'm indulging in, I'm also developing relationships with Martha Stewart, Adam Ant, and Phil Lynott even though he's DEAD! What to do you think of that, Ms. Fancy Pants?

Will you be my friend?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 1 June 2003 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

We only like each other, Mary.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 1 June 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

If anyone wants to add me to their friends list, search for jlutz@dcemail.com.

j.lu (j.lu), Sunday, 1 June 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary ppl. will get dates and have one-night stand from ANYTHING -- like theme parks, fast food joints, fucking BBSes, oh yeah and BARS. Like this is news -- ppl. using service where they can meet new ppl. to hook up SHOCKAH!

(that came out way meaner than I intended)

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 1 June 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

one of my best friends is apparently friends with my huge crush from 2001. friendster is great

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 1 June 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Theme parks!

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 1 June 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i hate it when people i've put into separate life categories ('work', 'family', 'crush') meet. i had a SEX NIGHTMATE about this phenomenon two nights ago.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Sunday, 1 June 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Why isn't Mary on there? Is she too good for us?

bnw (bnw), Sunday, 1 June 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

You had a SEX NIGHTMATE? Blimey, where do I sign up!?

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 1 June 2003 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

You know me: Always last to the party.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 2 June 2003 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

U r the party!

bnw (bnw), Monday, 2 June 2003 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I REALLY wish Kate Bush would approve my Friend request.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 2 June 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I want Alice Cooper to be my friend!

And of course I haven't got lucky!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Falco is my friend now! (...god I was bored this morning...)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Pretty handy considering he's dead.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Lies! Falco lives in our hearts!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 2 June 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

How do you meet people this way? Do you just send random msgs to cute people?

That Girl (thatgirl), Monday, 2 June 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary is suggesting breeding outside the commune. disgusting.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 2 June 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I was shocked to find out that life even exists outside the commune! Our leaders never told us this!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 2 June 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

But jel, our leaders are good. Our leaders are good.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 2 June 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

No! I think they are wrong! They have misled us all these years! Off with their heads! Off with their heads!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 2 June 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

>>>of person who would email a stranger based on a description on the internet.

and, ahem, no one here would do that. *whistles*

-- That Girl

Man, I just figured out you're totally ragging on me, ddg.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 2 June 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Alice Cooper is my friend now!! YAY!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 2 June 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

This friendster profile almost made me explode a teste from laughing too hard.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 2 June 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

You all should go be friends with my mom. She is lydk19@yahoo.com. I threatened to make all my friends go be friends with her.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 2 June 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you fix me up with her, Ally? She must be around my age?

It is telling me that I am connected to 30,000 people, which is starting to worry me.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 2 June 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Sure, I need a new dad anyway, my old one is going crazy and saying things like he's going to have my grandma put in jail.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 2 June 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron, your friend Casimir just messaged me on Friendster soliciting his debut EP "The Handbag Memoirs"....

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I have 0 people in my personal network.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I am dubious of Zoila from Sunnyvale, CA's testimonial:

I was invited to join Friendster from a friend and found it to be a "GREAT" way and a "FUN" way to meet new people and to network. Your friends know you best and maybe they can help you in meeting new friends or even a potential mate. Since I've been on Friendster I've introduced Friendster to my friends and it's been fun.

What's with the INVERTED COMMAS, Zoila?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

My mom is a man from the turn of the century named Lupe! Tracer, I just joined your personal network and testified on your behalf.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, best thing I've read on the net today:

"Continue only if you are REALLY friends with Chewbacca"

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

how come tracer is in a different network? Is this the matrix now or something?

jel -- (jel), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil-- Hahhaa... he's ever the salesman, I guess. It's a very good album, though! Came out on Le Grande Magistery (M****'s label?) and was on the CMJ chart and the like. Pas/Cal is prolly my favorite Detroit band.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Tracer is pretty much generally on his own plane, jel.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you allowed to decide you are no longer friends with someone? If so, does the ex-friend have to agree first? How does this relate to the real world?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

It's just like the real world because I have 9000 people in my personal network and I don't recognize any of them.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you just delete people you don't like anymore, N. Sort of like if you were in the Russian Mafia.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally what the hell with your mom. She is the coolest Friendster going. I want to be her.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah Aaron, I've heard it before and wanted to buy it but its THIRTEEN DOLLARS for an EP.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I AM FORCING N. TO BE MY FRIEND. I AM THE FRIEND NAZI!

I learned something new from my mom's profile, namely the thing about the twins eating mattresses. WTF?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah Aaron, I've heard it before and wanted to buy it but its THIRTEEN DOLLARS for an EP.

But there's a naked girl on the cover!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I did ask three people on Friendster to confirm that they were friends of mine but I guess they haven't checked their email yet.... (sniff).

I haven't got anything from you Ally. I will be your temporary friend if you like, but I am going to drop you when I can get some real people on it as I am interested to see if any real connections turn up.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

But there's a naked girl on the cover!

oh no! then my mom will throw it away like she threw away my Outkast "ATLiens" CD - the one with that naked alien woman with green shit dripping off her boobs [i think?]

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, whatever, like I'm not a real person? Stop discriminating against replicants, you Brit bastard.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm.. so I accepted the requests from Ally and Jel and it now says I have 2 firends but I have 0 people in my personal network. What's that about? Have we been through this?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 2 June 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Mabe they're avoiding you?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 2 June 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

"...connect through, N..."

Jesus, I'm starting to type like Noodles.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 2 June 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

It's OK now. I have asked Joel to be my friend because I am intrigued by the photo of his friends who is too many connections away from me. I am already a creep!

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

N, you need to be pals with the famous people like Phil or Adam, they know everybody.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not sure of the calibre of the people on Friendster though:

I have 'connected' to her now and the big photo is not what I thought.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

But I have now fallen in love with a girl who is a photographer and editor for the blow up.

Everyone is in NYC.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously Nick who is it? I'm intrigued that you're intrigued.

hstencil, Monday, 2 June 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

we had a deal, dastoor.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Tracer, in PEOPLE = SHIT shocker.

Have you been clicking through friends' friends or doing searches on favorites and interests?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Why won't you approve me, Richard?

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

rjg sorry i tarted out when you didn't respond to my invitation quickly enough. And I thank you, for without that I would never have met Gemma.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG has a policy of only being Friendster friends with people he has actually met in real life.

It's quite a good plan really, as it allows you to actually find real connections between people if enough of your real life friends sign up.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have favorites and interests.

I want to back up though - I'd never met Falco before and he seems okay.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 2 June 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

FALCO IS ON FRIENDSTER??

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 2 June 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil you act as if my approval is automatic! It is no such thing.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 2 June 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Although now that I've wrestled with it, I've decided, on the balance, that your testimonial is appropriate and fitting, and I would be proud to display it on my Friendster™ web page.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 2 June 2003 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I too made that leap off the bridge and decided to join Friendster.

So, who in this _______ wants me to add them to my "friends" list?

Dee the Lurker (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok I caved - add me.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

is she scratching her neck?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 05:45 (twenty-two years ago)

no, she had her arm hacked off at the elbow by the lusty love machine

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Rod Dennis

hmm, thas a suspiciously appropriate first name for the author of this 'exclusive, probing study' and 'stark and probing expose'

H (Heruy), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 05:47 (twenty-two years ago)

it should have said "Rod probes..."

now i'm gonna have nightmares

H (Heruy), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Did I mention I'm now friends with Gonzo and David Hasselhoff? They came to me. I blame my new friend Sam Beckett.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

What if you don't want to join Friendster but you want to be able to larf at people's profiles?

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Then I suggest you become Batz Maru for log in purposes...Also because I want to be friends with him.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Crazy! I just found some girl with 433 friends! What a slut!!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Needless to say I just asked her to be my friend.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Done! Batz Maru has asked to be your friend.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the best day ever.

Hey, which one of you is Falco, for serious? Because I will marry you. No shit, it's true. That is, if I don't hook up with Sam Beckett first, I'm liking this guy! "How did you and dad meet?" "Well, honey, he was pretending to be the blokey from Quantum Leap on the internet and we just hit it off from there." "Um. Oh."

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

You would liking to be marry me, mine süssesten? Say no to Sam Beckett, yes to Falco.

Falco (Aaron W), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Come on people, befriend an angry penguin! You know you want to...

Batz Maru (Nicole), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Come on people, befriend an angry penguin! You know you want to...

Done.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Cthulhu is my friend!

Cthulhu can be your friend too...

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah him too!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

bah, penguin is ignoring me

H (Heruy), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

There are some people in my personal network now. A lot of them. Hey, I have a brilliant idea--do a search for "snowcrash" (as in the crap novel by whats-his-name) and look at BEAR's profile. It had me laughing until I coughed up blood.

Mandee, Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

FALCO I LOVE YOU. ICH HABE DEINE KINDER.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I do not think friendster is even working for me. It wouldn't send me a confirmation email even when I requested it! Thus, it is lame.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it's good. It is a good way to hide the burgeoning inexplicable depression that has been destroying my ability to handle anyone for the past two days. Being asked to "only approve this request if you are REALLY friends with David Hasselhoff" is the bright spot in my otherwise rather grey and Kafkaesque day.

(nb this might not all be a serious post)

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

They are v. slow sending out confirmation emails and so on. Mine took at least an hour, I think.

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

but N. I've met you!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

yep, i caved too. i have 0 friends!!!! yay!

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too. I have no friends. It's just like real life *sniffle*

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

It's just this thing...

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

are you alisa watson? i'll be your friend.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

if it's this email address ailsa, I just tried to add you

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Good thing about being my friendster is that I will write you a fun testimonial.

Mandee, Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

It might not be true, but it will be fun.

Mandee, Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

im wearing a jabba costume.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently, i remind Mandee of an ELO song. is that good or bad? maybe i should have rejected it!

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Major hint: If you want me to add you as a "friendster" of mine, please e-mail me with your e-mail address and/or your first & last name. My e-mail address is helpfully listed at the bottom of my post; just subtract the _downspamdown_ spaminator from the address and voila, you've got instant contact.

Operative words in that above paragraph: Major hint. ;)

Dee the Lurker (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

that guy on the far right on the front page diagram looks like the poor man's carson daly.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The people on that diagram look like people I do not want to be in a web of magic with.

Mandee, Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay Dee and Luna - I now have two friends and 5,149 people (including several dead pop stars) in my network.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Mandee isn't lying about the testimonials! it's all about the testimonials, everything else is just window-dressing, even the potential for anonymous tawdry sex.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The testimonials are really my favorite part. Do you see the testimonial Chewbacca gave me? It's fucking excellent.

Yo, cookie monster just emailed me that I'm a "cookie cutie"!

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Mandee gives good testimonial.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

What I'm a gonna do is come up with a universal testimonial ryhme, kinda like my birthday one.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, I'm adding it now. It's kinda lame, but so am I.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, might have to finish this project of tomorrow.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

my alter-ego Teddy P. wants to be everyone's friend.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

you get a Friendster weekly update?!?!? I just got mine. Why?

H (Heruy), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

The testimonials are rocking my world today

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Seconded. Especially any written by Chewbacca or Adam Ant...or Mandee obviously.

I now have six friends, none of whom I know in real life. None of my real friends appear to want to be my friendster...this is a STUPID website and I HATE IT!

*flounces off in huff*

:)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, none of my pre-ILX friends are showing any interest, unless they have all joined and are excluding me. Actually, the way it works, I know that's not the case, unless they are all using emails other than those I know, but that is getting paranoid!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

well, not to fuel paranoia, but according to the Voice http://www.villagevoice.com/issues/0323/oshea.php this is what is known as 'virtual snubbing'

H (Heruy), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

no one has written me anything :(

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess, I've asked you to be my friend and you haven't accepted yet.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

God, that sounded so mercenary...still...

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i just did! i hadn't even looked at the thing since maura asked me join a few weeks ago

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

also john tesh, who i guess must have seen me repping him constantly on ilm

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

nick loves your me-testimonial, mandee.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

"Continue only if you really are friends with Geir."

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I only just logged on again myself after Maura did that same invite for me, Jess. And I've just deleted my account for that matter.

A little more on it all. And for that matter, the guy who founded it. My initial suspicion is now an active FEH!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Hurry up and make friends cause according to that Voice article they're soon gonna start charging you for the privilege.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i figured as much. all the fake friends have to be eating up the bandwidth.

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

wah wah no one wants to be my friend

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I have only about 4 real-people-friends, jess, don't feel bad. The other 70 are all Cookie Monster.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i should start fiendster

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, for like real. I was so upset that one upthread isn't a real site. WTF?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh oh, one of my friendsters got insulted by my testimonial.

Mandee, Wednesday, 4 June 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't like the term activity partner. It's too clinical.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I have been snubbed by someone on this board. It hurts.

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I must say, if anyone out there wants attention from the laydeez they should impersonate a Sanrio character. I received a disturbing amount of messages from friendster chix wanting to get with a cartoon penguin.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I snubbed John Tesh!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I am addicted to this thing. Really. It's the devil.

the sweet, sweet devil...

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I must say, if anyone out there wants attention from the laydeez they should impersonate a Sanrio character.

I learned that lesson LONG AGO.

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

There's an overwhelming amount of heavily tattoo'd female hotties age 18-21 on this site.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm changing my name to ham charo.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I snubbed John Tesh!!
You bastard, sir!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I did you even one better, Sean "John Tesh" Carruthers -- I noted your invite but just shut down the account without saying yes or no. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.tesh.com/david/tesh_corner-sm.jpg
YOU DIE NOW, RAGGETT!!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

An evil overlord with a smile on his face!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

When the aliens from Tesh's homeland find out about this flagrant disrespect of the Tesh, Ned and Tracer will have hell to pay.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

seriously, who is john tesh?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I am snubbing people left right and centre. It's great fun and please do not be offended.

What message do you get back when you are snubbed? Does it say 'So and so denies that they are your friend'?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I find the "edit your friends" feature kind of poignant.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, N edited me out.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

You get no message at all if someone denies your friendship or rejects testimonial. Which I find rather silly, a stern rebuke would be a lovely feature.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

John Tesh is the grinning goon in that photo Sean just posted. http://www.tesh.com will say more.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

If you guys make some nice friends can you introduce me to them?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Everyone only has evil friends. It's the secret plot.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I think ILX kinds of owns Friendster at the moment, at least in the UK. When I go to the gallery and choose to show just UK people, an awful lot of them seem to be ILXers or people only one step away from them, like Archel's friend Cat.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

They should make Snubster, where all you do is snub people!

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll introduce you all to Quantum Leap, he's cool. Also Cookie Monster finds me to be a cookie-hottie so I'll introduce you all to him. And also I've apparently joined the Monolith from 2001's robot-supermodel-army.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm registering www.acquaintancester.com and www.friendster-reunited.co.uk.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, I am trying to snub Mr. Tesh and it won't let me.

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Cookie Monster invited me over for cookies and milk

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Teddy Pendergrass volunteered to make love to my wife.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Bono's too good for all yalls.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

John Tesh told me 'java.sql.SQLException: Invalid argument value, message from server: "Duplicate entry '398882-83772' for key 1"'

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Tesh will not be denied.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I need Bono to be my friend... it fits in nicely with my plan of world domination.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Tesh will not be denied.

He's just mad cause I ignored him. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

John Tesh told me 'java.sql.SQLException: Invalid argument value, message from server: "Duplicate entry '398882-83772' for key 1"'

I'm getting this too! Not from Tesh, but from a mysterious new friend WHO WILL BE INTRODUCED TO YOU ALL if I can add him as a friend EVER. Fucking A, yo.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it Poochie?

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

No.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, you made me curious and i just signed up.
what must i do now? i don't know who to send messages! what am i supposed to do now?? help!

joan vich (joan vich), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

sarah michelle is my friend!! :-)

joan vich (joan vich), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

You come be friends with us, then we eat your brane.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm scared, but i can't help it.
i just added you.

joan vich (joan vich), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Judd Nelson is my friend.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I think there's seriously something wrong with me, cuz I think Sarah Michelle Gother is actually k-rowr!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh Nick, stay away from the dark side....

At least if you have to give in, come this way.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Paul, did you snub Martha Stewart?

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It is enforcing false politeness and won't let me snub anyone!

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It knows the real you, Paul, and your tender, loving heart.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm finding that the more guys I get connected to, the less interesting the available dating pool as a whole becomes.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

you all suck.

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

You hurt me in my heart.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

you all suck (except the 9 people who are my friends).

(ha ha that's more friends than i have in real life!)

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

what is this 'real life' you speak of? sounds intriguing.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

it involves 1 part sunshine, 1 part pants, and 2 parts will to live

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

eh, sounds like too much hassle.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't think I'm asking everyone either Jess! U R Special.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I am with picture! Please to be my friend as that will give life to me and my reason! Life will fades with sadness to set sun in ocean! Happy me you make!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 5 June 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i loved the message 'ally is now your friend' :-)
i'm decided to add only ilxers as friends, i hate the rest of the world (as we know it)

joan vich (joan vich), Thursday, 5 June 2003 07:13 (twenty-two years ago)

like Archel's friend Cat

In fact a whopping THREE of my friendsters are not ILE or Sinister in any way! I'm so proud.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 5 June 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm on there now. What does this thing actually DO?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 5 June 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

It's an orgasmatron.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 5 June 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

SCOTT STAPP IS MY FRIEND! IT IS TRULY THE ORGASMATRON!

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(a chaste Christian one, obviously)

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

(I'm on as "David Cozen").

Cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 5 June 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally, are you, like, monitoring Friendster activity 24 hours a day?

Cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 5 June 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. At least the 12 hours I'm at work.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I finally got a response from someone -- a cute and intelligent young gentleman who is quite deeply goth!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Give into VAMPIRE LOVE.

http://www.hzharris.com/bookcover.jpg

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Was it Ned? Oh wait, you said "young"... ;-)

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

BURN!

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Once more I sense the wisdom of leaving and never coming back to face you reprehensible scoffers.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey I have a question. If you 'bookmark' someone and don't change it to invisible, how are they notified that you have bookmarked them? Do they get a fanfare and an an email saying 'SOME CREEP WHO IS NOT YOUR FRIEND HAS BOOKMARKED YOU', or do they have to poke around?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 5 June 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

It shows up in their bookmarks; I think that's the only way they'd know, is if they went looking.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 5 June 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I found Bobby Gillespie!

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 5 June 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you meeting a disproportionate amount of "British bloggers, Baltimore ravers, and gay men from San Fran"?

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/06/05/technology/circuits/05diar.html

Maybe I'll have to join after all...

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 5 June 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I am on now... hi!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 5 June 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi everybody!

Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 5 June 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

EVERYONE IS GUILTY!

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 5 June 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm guilty
Guilty
I'm guilty
My conscience is on vacation in acute degeneration
Willpower has sunk to an all-time low
If you call that guilty well I guess I am
I'm guilty
I'm guilty
If you call this guilty then that's what I am
I'm gulty, I'm guilty, I'm guilty, I'm guilty
I'm guilty, I'm guilty, I'm guilty, I'm guilty
Well, I'm guilty
Yeah, I'm guilty
I don't care
I'm gulity
I think I have been framed anyway
They said I'm guilty
I'm guilty
They're guilty and everyone is guilty

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 5 June 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

You'd better hope Mohammed is in your personal network.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 5 June 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Friendster incites Duran Duran feelings, therefore I hate it.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 6 June 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I just did it. I resisted and resisted and now I've done it. And i only added confirmed 2 requests and now I am connected to 4000 people.

Damnit!

Carey (Carey), Friday, 6 June 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

what is jess and dave rs names, i would like them as my friends.

anthony easton (anthony), Friday, 6 June 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoa...the guy who is pretending to be Sam Beckett is totally cute! And also he's the type of person who thinks "the guy from Quantum Leap" is a good online persona! I love him.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 6 June 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm deleting myself once i reach 100,000 ppl in my network

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 6 June 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

My network is up to like 130K, and I'm already bored with the damn thing.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 6 June 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont know what to do with it but i have it. iam registered under this email address... come and testfiy ;)

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 6 June 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm like way over 100k, it's eating my soul but like I said Scott Bakula is pretty cute.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I still only have about 75,000 people!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i am "jess"

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

so is it about collecting more and more people? i'm not very good at it, i guess.
should i accept chewbacca as a friend? we share ourlove for facial hair, but...
well, at least i like the fact that i can actually see pictures of some of you guys :-)

joan vich (joan vich), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm only at 67k!

I'm adding Jess.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Gotta catch 'em all!

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

jess! je-je-jess jess!!

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 6 June 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess used his bad-ass posting style, it's super effective.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 6 June 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

And I, like "Jess", am "David". Which isn't like "Jess", in that it's me & not him. For instance, my asshole's not as sweet.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 6 June 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

TMI.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 6 June 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm just saying.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 6 June 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

only one way to find out

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 6 June 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Should we set up the taste test booth outside of the Thai food section or in Dairy?

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 6 June 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

let's let ally decide

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 6 June 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I want testimonials, its the new thing, and also, will Cookie Monster ever accept my offer of goodwill? I play his Sesame Street records all the time at home!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 6 June 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm deciding nothing about your asses, jess.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 6 June 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I was looking through 'Gallery' and I found a long-time phantom crush of mine (Glasgow based, bingo list [ie you see them around and cross them off mentally] person) and she's only real friends with N. and RJG!

Cozen (Cozen), Friday, 6 June 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, right, I bookmarked her, but what is the etiquette here - am I supposed to make it invisible. I mean, I didn't but I felt really creepy making it visible.

Cozen (Cozen), Friday, 6 June 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder who you're referring to, cozen. sort of.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 7 June 2003 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It's me, isn't it? Isn't it?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 7 June 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

(it's not really)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 7 June 2003 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

friendster will soon cost money? who then will be a friend!!?

Mike Hanle y (mike), Saturday, 7 June 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe it's your flatmate, RJG.

Mandee (keckles), Saturday, 7 June 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

perhaps.

I wonder.

sort of.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 7 June 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

A cute boy with killer tattoos has written me and we are meeting soon. Shall Friendster redeem itself? I'll keep you all updated.

That Girl (thatgirl), Sunday, 8 June 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

This really awesome girl sent me the cutest message ever. She's got a beautiful smile. She also lives approximately 700 miles away. I either hate the internet for putting me in contact with cool people so far away, or I hate Lexington KY for being so far away from everyone the internet puts me in contact with.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 9 June 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I am getting married to a girl I met on the internet 1000 miles away. So take heart.

Mike Hanle y (mike), Monday, 9 June 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

How can I get strangers to actually send me messages and shit??? Am I boring? Or is the fact that I say 'in a relationship' and 'reclusive' on my profile...?

Archel (Archel), Monday, 9 June 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Woo hoo! I'm friends with a lurker!

Sarah MCLusky (coco), Monday, 9 June 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

It's just getting weirder for me...

luna (luna.c), Monday, 9 June 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you getting weird messages from pervy freaks or something?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 9 June 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I haven't gotten any from you, nick...

luna (luna.c), Monday, 9 June 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

(Oh come on, you knew it was coming)

luna (luna.c), Monday, 9 June 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Good choice of words.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 June 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh hell.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 9 June 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

My Teddy Pendergrass has more friends than I do. Fuckin a im lame.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 9 June 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Woo hoo! I'm friends with a lurker!

Hey, me too!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 9 June 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Archel, the fact that I am a cartoon penguin who states that he is married stops no one! It is kind of scary. I wonder if Pochacco or Keroppi would get the same amount of pervs.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 9 June 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm still not even quite sure what the point of this thing is

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 9 June 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Another way to waste time.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 9 June 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I have yet to meet someone I didn't already know from this Friendster thing. But that's okay because I don't really want to know anyone new. Someone did send me a message though (a girl) and told me I am hot. Only girls think I am hot.

Mandee, Monday, 9 June 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i joined this thing last week in a mad fit of procrastination. i dont have friends yet. i think i called myself "mitch id". it sounded appealingly like a character from an overly self-aware student film.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 9 June 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah, that would be me, would it?

gery forbes (gery), Monday, 9 June 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

hi, gery,

I didn't+don't know you, you know, etc.

sorry about that!

RJG (RJG), Monday, 9 June 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

B-but if you start posting then you won't be a lurker any more, gery!

gery forbes (gery), Monday, 9 June 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Mandee, I can assure you quite categorically that you are wrong!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 9 June 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you seen how many people there are on Friendster who claim to be in open marriages? Are they just saying that because it sounds funny or has the world gone to pot?

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 15 June 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's supposed to sound funny.

maybe pot has something to do w/ it, too.

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 15 June 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I've met two people off friendster now. One bought me breakfast.

That Girl (thatgirl), Sunday, 15 June 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

be my friend, people!!!

chaki (chaki), Sunday, 15 June 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I got a strange message from some girl, and all she wrote was "I'm straight acting and a TOP! hahahahaha!"

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 15 June 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry about that, phil.

rosemary (rosemary), Sunday, 15 June 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i just joined!! be my friend NOW

geeta (geeta), Monday, 16 June 2003 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I just finally joined this thing. Always late to the party. geeta and chaki I'll be your friend!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 16 June 2003 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm back at it (procrastinating at the office again, that is).
off to make more friends, then...

joan vich (joan vich), Monday, 16 June 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I just joined this weekend, thanks to Mista Daddino...

"Mackro Dinero" is my name... ADD ME FULES!

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 16 June 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, that's you! Now I'll approve the request - I didn't know who that was!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 16 June 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I changed my picture!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 16 June 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn, Martin, you have to know who people are to approve requests? You're picky.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 16 June 2003 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

so, um, does thing do anything or what?

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 16 June 2003 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still trying to figure that out. One of my friends appears to like the bulletin board function, where you broadcast a personal message to all your friendsters. other than that I'm not sure.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 16 June 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean, aside from the obvious harvesting for penile enlargement offers

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 16 June 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, that makes us cockfarmers, literally.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 16 June 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

zing!

Matt (Matt), Monday, 16 June 2003 23:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I got a message from an Italian woman yesterday, so it may be achieving something other than listing friends.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

its really weird when you look up a person and then see how you are connected.

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

(heheh i just added jess as my friend. i love how they ask "is he rrrrreally your friend?")

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

its really weird when you look up a person and then see how you are connected.

Except you're not really connected to them at all, because all you mentalists are just adding all and sundry.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I am a Friendster puritan. I have met in person 17 of my 26 friends, and they all exist. As far as I know.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I am also, partly cos not many people want to be my friend anyway

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, wtf is being the point of friendster if it's just to make connections to people you actually know? I can go out and be friends with them whenever I want! Obv. I should be making connections with Steve Perry, I don't already know him.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, help -- I need more friendsters. I'm a hermit.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeanne - just sent you an invite

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm, I have 11 friends, 5 of whom I know in real life and the rest through AIM. Apparently I have over 60k people in my network. I am sticking to the theory that I will only allow people I know (or at least know to exist) to be my friend. What's the point of this again?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I NEED TESTIMONIALS PEOPLE!

chaki (chaki), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

It's to meet friends of friends (of friends) Ally as YOU WELL KNOW.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

whoa Mr. Diamond I didn't know you know my friend Leah. That's crazy.

hstencil, Tuesday, 17 June 2003 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, and stuff like that.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still convinced it's all a scam, sorry.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Stence - it's a small world! Yeah, we went to school together. Er, either that or I was a post-collegiate layabout in HP while she was in school, I can't remember. She's awesome though, I miss her and all my ex-pat homiez.

One of the funny things about this is definitely the way you find out that your friends from seemingly disparate social groups are like two degrees of separation from each other (not going through yourself, that is).

Chaki - I tried to add you but you never wrote back !!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Coolness, Mr. Diamond. Leah dated my best friend for a long time and I think she's the beez kneez. Wish I ran into her more in this here Brooklyn Zoo.

hstencil, Tuesday, 17 June 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still convinced it's all a scam, sorry.

Duh. But a scam that one could easily escape thanks to free email accounts.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh fun.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Stence, that would be Josh then? Yeah I know him too, although it has been about 6 months or so since I've seen him around. He may be a worse hermit than I am!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

...also, I have to admit the "fake" friends floating around out there ("Skunk", "Geir") are pretty fucking funny.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, Ned, to be completely serious, what is it exactly about Friendster or the idea thereof that you don't like? You seem especially down on Friendster, and not just indifferent.

Having known you for a while, I could figure out Friendster wouldn't be "your thing" at all. And lord knows, there are plenty of other community utilities, online or otherwise, that I either feel serve no useful purpose or I loathe loathe LOATHE, though everyone else seems to enjoy them...

so, I'm not asking you this to put you on the hot seat, but to just to try and empathize. (And anyone else who agrees with Ned, please contribute).

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

...also, I have to admit the "fake" friends floating around out there ("Skunk", "Geir") are pretty fucking funny.

Those are both mine!

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 01:08 (twenty-two years ago)

ha - Skunk is genius! Love that picture of him.

He must be my friend.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 01:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Friendster is Temporarily Unavailable

We are making changes to expand the size of our database. Please check back this evening. We apologize for the inconvenience.

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I dumped my friendster account - just taking up too much time

luna (luna.c), Saturday, 21 June 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah Diamond that's the Bearman I'm talking about. Can't wait to see that guy. I imagine you and I know a lot of people in common.

hstencil, Saturday, 21 June 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I wrote you a testimonial Chaki but I'll write you another one if you like.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 21 June 2003 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm so sad that luna is not on there any more!

Anyway, I actually clicked on someone - this girl from dc - and sent her a message. I thought she'd make a great friend and we had common interests, but then I didn't hear back from her. Now I'm wondering if she thought me weird for doing that. But isn't that the point of Friendster? To make more friends? *sigh*

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i think the point is to show off how cool you are and how many friends you have. it is also important to look slightly askew at the camera rather than at it and to have your photo in black and white while looking moody, and the profile must imply that you are much better than anyone who would reply to it. you must read vonnegut and sedaris and play interpol records. despite this studied cool you must count mr t and david hasselhof as your friends, this is to indicate that you have a playful side too. i read it in the manual

gareth (gareth), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

haha gareth, do people with "studied cool" actually read sedaris? he's usually code for "help, i only read one book a year and i don't know what to put on my profile."

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

him and michael chabon.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone listing Vonnegut would totally fail the cool test in my book (I've never read him but come on, it's a bit obvious). Otherwise Gareth's tips are quite good, except it can be best not listing any serious books or records at all.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i am just going by the instructions on the site. i have never read/heard vonnegut/sedaris/interpol.

gareth (gareth), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

you must count mr t and david hasselhof

werner herzog is one of my friends! as is cthulhu!! are you impressed?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I love that my alter ego has more friggin friends than I do. Amazing.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I would rather have a really silly profile while being friends with Klaus Nomi but alas it was not to be.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 23 June 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't dissing on indie rock Chabon, Vonnegut, askew photography, et al, just reverse snobbery? [/ILM 2002]

bnw (bnw), Monday, 23 June 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Only if you are wearing a trucker hat.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 23 June 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Friendster has been very, very good to me.

That Girl (thatgirl), Monday, 23 June 2003 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

eww

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 23 June 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

my fiance has an exboyfriend in her friends. is that legal?

JasonD (JasonD), Monday, 23 June 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

they dated while we "were on a break"

JasonD (JasonD), Monday, 23 June 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i wasnt dissing those things, its the instructions say that you must put them on the friendster profile

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

You made up those instructions, though.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure how Ally's post is going to be dealt with by Gareth and his controversial sense of humour.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Head explosion.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I have the feeling that his sense of humour is more conversational than controversial.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I must get on with writing some testimonies. I put my best picture up there.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Friendster is showing promise for me here, too.

I need to hit back y'all with testesmonies, too. Apologies.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

though, no one I didn't already know has contacted me! But, I did catch up with some people I'd lost touch with.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

People keep asking me to drink and go rollerskating. It's kind of freaking me out.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

At the same time??

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe you remind them somehow of Rollergirl, Kim?

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I've had a couple of "Let-tuce be friends."

Commoners. They have no clue it was cabbage.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I've had no messages from strangers at all.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I get messages from, like, Klaus Nomi.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't get messages. but then again my picture there is kinda freaky and i don't give much information about me... whatever, i can't find the time to even check the page. too busy reading ILM/ILE

joan vich (joan vich), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 07:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I've had three messages and have replied to two so far. I also got visibly bookmarked by a Cure fan.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Kim, yo, would you like to go rollerskating? Maybe we could have a couple of cold ones.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

RIVERS CUOMO IS MY FRIEND! MY LIFE IS COMPLETED!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

damn! Rivers should be my pal too!!!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I just have to say that

FRIENDSTER IS THE BEST. WEBSITE. EVAH.

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I have had no messages from people I don't know. How can you tell if you've been bookmarked? Does it give you some indication on your home page or something?

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

so has anyone aside from DDG found love, or at least lust, on friendster?

oh, and i've had one stranger contact me. course when i add ilx folk that is technically me contacting/adding strangers.

H (Heruy), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to go rollerskating. Kim, if I come to Toronto can we go? *please don't freak out*

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.jaysonsutcliffe.com/images/rollergirl.jpg

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't even know where a roller-rink is around here - I think these people are talking in code.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Who needs a rink? I'm up for doing it in a bar.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Kim, would you like to "strap on some skates" and do a few "laps" around the "rink"?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends. You're not one of those "speed skaters" are you?

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

"Freestyle", baby.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

the images, the images!!!!

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah. It really makes me want to not rollerskate.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Me either.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Now do you?

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey! I just got on this. Yanc3y is my first friend. Cause, you know, he was the first e-mail address on this thread.

(wringing hands) I hope he approves me.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, you people are all wearing me down, I admit it. Thanks to DB's various arguments I am thinking of joining up. But I reserve the right to be suspicious!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i still don't get the point of this thing.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I don't think it has a point.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

well that's still a point, i guess.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

zen.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Ted: Socrates said, the only true knowledge comes in knowing that you know nothing.
Bill: Whoa...that's us, dude!

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

you invoke...the KEANU *bows down*

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm trying to reach my 200K goal for people in my 'personal network'.. under 30K to go!

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not just invoking the KEANU, I'm going to force him to be my friend.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I don't think it has a point.

Yeah, kind of like that Nation States game that I'm still playing despite getting the same issues over and over. I'm trying to turn my nations into the opposite of what they once were. It's fun. Almost.

Hey, Ally has 'Goodfellas' on her movies list, too! Kismet!

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I guess that means we have to get it on now, Kenan.

PS there is also a Ted Logan on Friendster. It's like every dream I ever had just came true, but the bitch that is the Internet is a cruel beast SINCE NONE OF IT IS REAL.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Bono is real. We're great friends. At least, we will be once he approves me.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I guess that means we have to get it on now, Kenan.

Whenever I want you, all I have to do is dre-eee-eeam. Dream dream dream.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"Do it like the Edge" is still the funniest thing I've read, like, all year.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

For those of us who are single there *is* a point to this. and I think it kicks Nerve personals ass all over the place. Far less cheesy.

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 26 June 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm frightened by the way my profile says I'm looking for "friends, activity partners." People are going to be asking me to play role-playing games.

Will you be my friend, That Girl?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 26 June 2003 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Both Yanc3y and Bono have enuf friends. They will approve no more.

I wanted to make a fake Rivers Cuomo! I wuz gonna try to only make friends with Asian grrls and I wuz gonna try to make it seem real, especially since I know Rivers' AIM name.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 26 June 2003 03:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, I wanted to make Brett Easton Ellis solely to get Mary, felicity and Ally to date me. But then I realized that I'm not quite creepy enough, and I'm not hooked on smoking rubber cement (he is!).

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 26 June 2003 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, shit. Is there a way you can turn me down then, so I don't have you pending forever?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 26 June 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

And no, Friendster's got no point cuz everyone knows that if you wanna get laid Nerve's the place to go.

I'll accept you Kenan next time I look at the damn site.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 26 June 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

kenan invite me and i'll approve you. the email i use on there is dallasdeadgirl@netzero.com

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 26 June 2003 03:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Yee ha!

This is cool if only because I get to see pictures of you all.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 26 June 2003 03:26 (twenty-two years ago)

All right, I'm in, via my e-mail address and all. Write me if you like!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 June 2003 03:27 (twenty-two years ago)

welcome ned, just added you (watch as Ned breaks Friendster)

H (Heruy), Thursday, 26 June 2003 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh. We'll see!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 June 2003 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn, and Kenan's already in there. Anyone else?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 June 2003 03:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I want this domain sooo bad.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 26 June 2003 03:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw, honey. You're young yet.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 26 June 2003 04:03 (twenty-two years ago)

People are going to be asking me to play role-playing games.

Yesterday at work, I heard this one guy come up to another guy and say, "Would you be interested in role-playing?" and his voice was all serious and business like. And he added, "You see, I've been role-playing with Adriane and Steve and we have all found it to be very effective." So the new guy says, "Sure, I would love to role-play. I could really learn a lot."

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Thursday, 26 June 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Yanc3y, why are you being so mean? And of course I'm not referring to your belligerent behavior about approving people, but rather the fact that you haven't given me Rivers Cuomo's AIM ID yet.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 26 June 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't believe you people broke down the good ship Ned. That's so sweet Yancey; let me know if you ever do a fake Vincent Gallo.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 26 June 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"You see, I've been role-playing with Adriane and Steve and we have all found it to be very effective."

Who's the naughty milk maid and who's the stable boy?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 26 June 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Boo hoo. I only have 119275 friends in my personal network. :(

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 26 June 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I've asked-then-cancelled to be Yanc3y's friend three times now. He'll never approve me. It's no use.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 26 June 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Within less than twelve hours I'm already up to 75K. Should I be scared?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 June 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, I just approved you as a friend. YOU'RE ABOUT TO GET A LOT MORE PEOPLE IN YR PERSONAL NETWORK, AND NONE OF THEM ARE REAL.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Is there any way to block people you don't know from sending you messages? (without severing whichever friend is connecting you to them that is)

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes! Swamped by Ally's fake friends, I'm set!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Specific people I mean.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think you can stop people sending you messages. I mean you can reject friendship, but not messages.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess they assume that friends of friends of friends can't possibly be psychopaths. Neat feature.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

That sucks Kim! :(

Ned, kill friendster!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm at 120K now, doubtless in large part due to Ally's phantom army of friends, so we'll see what can be done here.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Kim, I think the only thing you can do is ignore them. I have the same issue, some guy sends me like 4 messages a day about how he's thinking about me--wtf?

My personal network is like 300k, but this is because I'm a celebrity whore.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

All right, people--

I just signed up, and I want some imaginary friends so I can get some imaginary action.

Love,
Marcel

Marcel Post (Marcel Post), Saturday, 28 June 2003 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, Friendster rocks because I just found out two of my good friends from high school are on it.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 28 June 2003 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Utterly clasic profile.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 28 June 2003 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Not as classic as this guy though. (NOT SAFE FOR WORK)

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 28 June 2003 04:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh mighty balls of fate, blowing in the wind.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 28 June 2003 04:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you, New Friend Kenan--

Now I am that much closer to my ultimate goal: coitus with Steely Dan.

Marcel Post (Marcel Post), Sunday, 29 June 2003 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I've discovered a number of random people from my past who are on Friendster, but I wouldn't necessarily want to reintroduce myself, let alone via a web site.

Still it's funny to see the sundry ways people from diverse periods of my life are connected (and not by me). I suppose the world of young highly-educated culture-obsessed web-literate urbanites is not too terribly large (that last phrase reminds me of Hartley's "Theory of Achievement").

amateurist (amateurist), Sunday, 29 June 2003 04:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Weird.

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 29 June 2003 05:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Very weird.

*BLUSH*

It's all due to the camera wizardry of El Donut Bitch and the supafly girl who consented to have a flick taken with a scrub like me. (I was going to say "who consented to get flicked with me" but that's just taking slang invention into dangerous waters.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 29 June 2003 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

But I thought you were the Dread Pirate Perry.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 29 June 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

ARRRRRRRR FASSY MON! BUMP ME SPLIFF AND YE'LL BE WALKIN' DA PLANK!

Dreadlock Pirate Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 29 June 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I knew you would take things to that logical and useful conclusion. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 29 June 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank God there's a place where I can publicly declare you people my friends.

jewelly (jewelly), Sunday, 29 June 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i love friendster. i am happy that it is succeeding where sixdegrees, with its designed-by-consultants look and pre-online-personals-as-not-icky era, utterly flopped

maura (maura), Sunday, 29 June 2003 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I completely adore Friendster.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 29 June 2003 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"Suggest a match between Ned and Camel Toe" is now my most favoritist sentence in the whole wide world.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 29 June 2003 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I had never heard of this Camel Toe phenomenon until now.

Cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 29 June 2003 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It's sweeping the nation.

jewelly (jewelly), Sunday, 29 June 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

My goal is to write every single one of you a testimonial.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

My goal is to write every single one of you a testimonial.

So get to it, bitch. And make mine really sweet.

jewelly (jewelly), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Your testimony is going to involve Ass Empowerment, jewelly.

I would get to it but I can't log in!

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

My goal is to write every single one of you a testimonial.

I hope so, missus, as I've just started yours;>

[Yes, I'm finally a Friendster chick, and I'm looking for a decent shot from one of you....to replace the mystery of my face...]

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

You should say something about my sexy feet too, I think.

jewelly (jewelly), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Trust me, I will--but the problem is, I can't log in :(

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I had no problem logging in a few minutes ago. Which is funny since I had nothing to do there and immediately logged off.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Rub it in my face, why don't you. It's the only joy in my life now that I've gotten the vapours!

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Mention, too, that I'm kind to animals and really care about the environment, k?

jewelly (jewelly), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally, don't forget to mention my huge stilletto that's tucked in my boot...

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

My goal is to write every single one of you a testimonial.

i still haven't got one :-(

i haven't written one either. it must be that.

joan vich (joan vich), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I need to write some more testimonials. I can't believe there is actually one person who is sad and disappointed that I have yet to write him one -- dude, I'm a cartoon penguin! Is a glowing recommendation from Badtz Maru something that is really necessary in life? Honestly...

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

in friendster life, yes. at least it seems so. if not, what's the point?

joan vich (joan vich), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

"continue only if you are REALLY friends with Camel Toe."

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Camel Toe is one of th best Friendsters EVAH.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I still am not sure whether to laugh or cry that you suggested a match between me and Manties, Dan.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Camel Toe's picture is hawt. I want to tickle it. I wonder if it will spit at me.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

FEEL THE MANTIES VOIBE!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't even get onto friendster today.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

The Mooninites are threatening to burn me with light bulbs!!!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

friendster is good for stalking old friends you've lost track of, i find.

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 3 July 2003 04:15 (twenty-two years ago)

It's Emma out of Lush

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 3 July 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh my work has blocked it suddenly. I get a "FORBIDDEN: THIS SITE IS CATERGORIZED AS DATING!" Message. "FUCK YOU NAZI'S YOUR COMPANY IS A FUCKING HELL HOLE!"

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 3 July 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I am looking forward to sophisticated workplace email filtering that bounces things back with messages like "FORBIDDEN: THIS EMAIL IS CATERGORISED AS FLIRTING!". That, and the resurrection of the dead and the life to come.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 3 July 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, I'm on this thing now. I should go add people. If you see one of those "this guy added you, s'up with that?" emails and the guy is Bill, that guy might be me.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 3 July 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm almost missing it.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 3 July 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Friendster is Temporarily Unavailable

We are experiencing heavy site traffic. Please be patient while we try to connect you. We apologize for the inconvenience.

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 3 July 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Been like that for a day or more, as near as I can tell.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 3 July 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

It's intermittent, I find. If you try now and then, eventually you get in.

I am now connected to like 150,000 people, and I haven't noticed my life changing yet.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 3 July 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

martin look behind you!

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 3 July 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I was excited about being friends with "Austin Parites" for about a day, because he would send the locations and times of parties in Austin. BUT! That's all the info he sends. So there's a party there, eh? Am I invited? Who's throwing it? What's the age range? I hate being the old guy at a party. So, it's useless.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 3 July 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

kenan you should attend every single party and keep a blog.

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 3 July 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Hah! I really should.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 3 July 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I just befriended Danny Elfman! You know you want to befriend him, too.

http://www.friendster.com/user.jsp?id=873382

Go on. Make him a friend. :)

Innocent Dreamer (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 4 July 2003 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Woooh - pics of me (Prince With No Thumbs) up on friendster! No bowl cut, see?

Cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 6 July 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Danny Elfman just asked if I wanted to be his friend.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 6 July 2003 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned secretly controls Friendster - I am linked to 56,448 people thru him.

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 6 July 2003 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

danny elfman left me a wonderful testimonial

chaki (chaki), Sunday, 6 July 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

My STRANGE powers, Orbit! It is all part of my plot. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 July 2003 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Nedlet, you do have fab strange powers.....more Bolli dahling?

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 7 July 2003 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

why would you be "friends" with someone you haven't actually met? doesn't that defeat the purpose?

amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 7 July 2003 01:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, but Ned and I *have* met. Many times.

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 7 July 2003 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

BOLLI

http://www.thewinenews.com/decjan0001/images/bollinger.jpg

Yay! And yes, I know Ms. Orbit over many moons now. Our connection was Iggy Pop. If you will.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 July 2003 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Most distressing thing I have learned from Friendster so far: one of my ex-boyfriends is now a Limp Bizkit fan.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 7 July 2003 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I see his twue cowors shining through.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 July 2003 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe it was some kind of arch, ironic joke? I am trying to make some sort of sense of this -- because it makes no sense!

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 7 July 2003 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Ohmigod NED! Tell me that bottle is IN your fridge and not just on the net.....

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 7 July 2003 01:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Orbit, if I had that lurvly bottle you would have known about it by now!

Nicole -- accept the fact that dementia comes sooner for some and all is explained.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 July 2003 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

*shuffle, shuffle, sniff* It was a *lurvly* bottle....I request AIM ChampagneAlerts henceforth ;-)

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 7 July 2003 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

So, Friendster is apparently a spyware planter, from what I heard. Anyone can confirm this? (See, I'm really glad I used fake names now)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 July 2003 02:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh. Wouldn't be surprised (I suppose my decision to take the plunge fully was partially motivated by the fact that enough spam characters and 'legit' businesses both probably already have all my info already)...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 July 2003 02:03 (twenty-two years ago)

what is spyware? and can it be subverted by cleaning out cookies every now and then? and does it matter if you use a mac?

i guess i was wondering if ned really had like 200 friends or whatever, that would be impressive.

amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 7 July 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i suggested a bunch of matches last week.. are any of you in wedded bliss yet?

Mandee, Monday, 7 July 2003 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

wouldn't surprise me in the least (either spyware or Ned having 200 friends)

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 7 July 2003 02:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually I am over 100 'official' friends now, scarily enough. The network is becoming a gentle monster.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 July 2003 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i am a social minimalist.

amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 7 July 2003 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

So Ned you never answered Donut Bitch's question about why you were ambivalent towards Frienster at first.

Was it just a general distrust/thinking-they-were-harvesting emails?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 7 July 2003 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Pretty much. They weren't setting up the site for altruism, that much was always clear.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 July 2003 03:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i suppose like most other dot coms they are hoping to hook people before they start charging them. unfortunately i won't be around when they start, nor will most of the people i know.

amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 7 July 2003 03:58 (twenty-two years ago)

oh my gosh that sounds like we'll all be dead. no, no, i just meant i won't bother to actually pay for this site.

amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 7 July 2003 03:58 (twenty-two years ago)

And you will also be dead because they will get you.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 7 July 2003 07:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, that no message blocking is a *serious* flaw. I actually removed someone (a total stranger that I have never contacted) from my friends network by tragically severing my close and personal relationship with "Beer" and that did the trick - however, said person is apparently back in my network via JBR and "Malt Liquor". Yeah. So I'll see what happens but JBR, if I sudenly have to edit you off my list, don't take it personally.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 7 July 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

severing my close and personal relationship with "Beer"

one day at a time.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 7 July 2003 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

wait, so if you get a message can *everyone* read it. the only message i've gotten is a fairly innocuous one from a friend, and i'd like to keep it that way. i'm not interested in meeting people, i just like the sociology experiment aspect of it.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Eh? No, Amateurist, that isn't it -- personal messages are private. However, if you post a message to your bulletin board, that gets copied for all the people that are your official friends (as opposed to just being in the network).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

er huh? i'm utterly confused. why would anyone use the bulletin board to send personal messages?

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, if they're doing THAT, that's odd.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i feel like an eager student of the kabbalah at his first lesson...

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I'm talking about the personal messages. You can't send them to anyone who isn't connected to you somehow.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 03:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh ILx peoples of all persuasions, please friendster me, I was not around at the beginning of this thread...my email is just the one i use, Iodine999@aol.com - you'll get something out of it too..

...you'll be adding Jon Benet Ramsey in your "personal network" if you friendster me - how cool an incentive is that?!??

YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO.

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 04:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I use this to eliminate spyware on my pc. great piece of software.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't noticed any spyware with Friendster and I regularly use ad-aware...

maybe it plants some weird cookies?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Can just visiting a site really install spyware?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

No, but it can install a dialer. Which are bitches to get rid of. It can also change the scripting in your homepage sometimes.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

is this bad?? How bad is this?

please explain to non-technical morons

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

This should not be allowed. Is this just if you have ass Internet Explorer security settings (I am on a Mac with Safari anyway).

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

just get the above program vic and run it every so often, it clears them all out. and checks to see if you have any currently.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

ok tnks i am on an os X mac but yeah i needed to know

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

ILE kills Friendster. Film at 11.

Friendster is Temporarily Unavailable

This exponential growth has overloaded our servers. We are adding dozens of more servers to handle the tremendous demand for the Friendster service.

Orbit (Orbit), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

YES! ILX = 1, rest of internet = 0!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

it's all the silly fictional-character entries and people who overload their friends-list with people they haven't even met grumble grumble.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

oh come on amateurist, we all know you're down with martha

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

BAHAHAHA vindicated

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you insinuating I haven't actually met Snuffalupagas? Or whatever? Dude, I'll kick your ass for that.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm skeptical as to the existence of snuffalupagas, let alone your having met him, ally.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously, that's not cool. I'm gonna have my friend Tony Montana come fuck your shit up for that.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I got octupus coming out of my fucking ears mang

Tony Montana (Millar), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I TOLD YOU ALL.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i bet the famous people r lso pretendin 2 b boring "normal" people in exchange, like all these foos who list interpol and catcher in da fucking rye

yu cant fool us snuffa, we al know u really like reading Hustler. And that all.

Vic, Tuesday, 8 July 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
someone is now selling t-shirts with profiles of random friendsters. i don't think i like this, though the information is out there for all, something abt this doesn't feel right to me

http://www.glossosaurus.com/?node_id=1630

H (Heruy), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 07:26 (twenty-two years ago)

It feels very right to me.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

If he makes one with N. on it, I'd buy it.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I would buy it just to burn it, like villagers do with effigies of cruel dictators.

Larcole (Nicole), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually got a message this week from someone who is moving in to town and wants to hook up with me! (by hook up I mean meet me and maybe play music with me, you dogs) She was at this party and my name came up. Crazy, huh?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

My workmate just asked to be my Friendster friend and I denied him. Was I being rude?

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

yes

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

oh

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

if it wasn't for coworkers i'd have like 10 friendsters.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

instead of denying just ignore it and let it sit there. if they ask you about it say you haven't been able to log in.

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I have too strict a definition of "friends."

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends on what both you and they want to use it for, I guess, but if I were your co-worker I wouldn't be greatly put out.

(I don't really use Friendster for anything, though, so my testimonial's all but useless. Feel free to shake your fist and say "But Tep wouldn't mind, dammit!", though.)

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't use it for anything either.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

My two friendster dates were complete duds

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 31 July 2003 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i still am unsure how to use this device to procure dates. how does one go about this?

in other news, feel free to search for "kingfish" and you'll probably be added. If you're cute, female, in yer 20's, and local, even better.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 31 July 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Go to the gallery, use the search to find people in your area who are interested in dating and write to them.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 31 July 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh my god, there's actually people I actually know on friendster now! ROCK OVER LONDON, ROCK OVER FRANCE!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 31 July 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to meet some ILE people on friendster... or do I have to lurk on this thread for a couple more years before I can connect with you crazy kids?

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Saturday, 2 August 2003 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

My workmate just asked to be my Friendster friend and I denied him. Was I being rude?

-- amateurist (amateuris...), July 30th, 2003.

I think so, yes, since some hypersensitive people can take this the wrong way. Some person in the office here didn't approve of me i though, but then he came up to me in person the next day and said i had made some technical mistake when inviting him or something. So i tried again but he still never approved of me; i would feel that he feels ambivalent about me due to all of this if it weren't for the fact tha he patted my back the next day to say hi. So no i just believe the truth about technical problems, but if u don't want to possibly send your co-worker a wrong message u might as well tell him that u got the invite, maybe

Vic (Vic), Saturday, 2 August 2003 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan, you can add me: dallasdeadgirl@netzero.com

I'm a Friendster slut.

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 3 August 2003 03:10 (twenty-two years ago)

hey did the friendster police fuck up ally's account or something? both her pic in my friendsters list and her testimonial of me is gone...and it's not just my profile they're missing from...

...this is bad since she was the best looking friendster i had, proof that gorgeously young beautiful people can like me too! or did she just get over this sillyness and delete her profile on her own? oh well, i wouldn't be surprised if it was the police. they're being real nazis, they got two other of my friendsters (one of whom i know was real, he just had a lot of friendsters, so i think they look at that w/ suspicion?)

(i'm still trying to increase my friendster list for petty rivalish reasons, so u can add me thru my email address dan: iodine999@aol.com)

Vic (Vic), Sunday, 3 August 2003 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally left Friendster. My personal network may never recover...

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 3 August 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

oh ok i didn't know that. i know it is a time-consuming waste of time (as opposed to those wastes of time that are relatively teeny in comparison, but i still wish she didnt leave

Vic (Vic), Sunday, 3 August 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks Vic and Texas Sam... I've sent requests to both of you and I hope I can meet more of you charming folks on here...

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Sunday, 3 August 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Send one to me too, what the hey -- my name there is as it is here. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 3 August 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay! Thanks Ned, I'm on the case...

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Sunday, 3 August 2003 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too!

Vic, if you need a hot young replacement for Ally, I'm willing to volunteer! I may not be hot or young but er

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 3 August 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Alright Martin, I've added ya... thanks for the help!

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Monday, 4 August 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin you are no replacement - you're already my friendster - and friend! andyou are young...hey when i say "young" I am not talking about people like Jon Benet Ramsey, even though apparently she's my friendster too! and besides, no one can take ally's place either, except that guy from quantum leap, but i'm too lazy to find him again

Vic (Vic), Monday, 4 August 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I got sick of Friendster.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 4 August 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

You've probably already seen this, but:
http://www.enemyster.com/
Hahahaha! Soon we can all have 47 000 enemies as well!
:-)

(Though... not sure how that'll work, your enemy's enemies are potentially your friends, are they not?)

Hanna (Hanna), Monday, 4 August 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I am greedy and I want more friendsters!

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 4 August 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Stand in the street and do a survey involving the procurement of people's email addresses. Then invite them to be your friend!

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Lara, that is BRILLIANT.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

TAKE.YOUR.HANDS.OFF.MY.CHEST.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops, sorry.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Like you're really sorry, Captain Butter Underpants...

Larcole (Nicole), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Not as sorry as his greasy butt.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Gut.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I DO NOT HAVE A BUTT-GUT. At least not yet.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

But you'd like one wouldn't ya, sweet cheeks?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

All ripe and bouncy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I am secretly Bruce Willis's dim girlfriend from "Pulp Fiction" who is obsessed with developing a pot belly.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Tsk. Sweat cheeks. I meant sweat cheeks.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmm, buttery butt sweat.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Buttery butt sweat bootyflakes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Now see, you've gone and ruined everything.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Would you like lice with that?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

No, you pour the coconut oil on that first, then sprinkle the lice on, and you have a nutritious breakfast.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

NASSTY

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends what end you're on.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

These threads are so much better than Friendster.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

When I try to confirm that I am friends with Bryan, I get the following: ERROR: NOT ALLOWED. Does Friendster know that I have never met Brian??

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Strange. I will try again.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think it's gonna work! Try to make friends with me, maybe.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe it's just trying to tell you something, Lara

luna (luna.c), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Bryan, now it's not letting me log on. It KNOWS!

(I made a vow not to invite anyone to be my friend - this is why I have less than 15 friends listed).

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Try again to confirm once you're on again. The request I made is now listed for me. Friendster was way more fun when you were there, luna.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Awww shucks.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I have been barred. You have ruined everything.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Well anally rape me with a bat!

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

There's never a bat around when I need one!!!!!

luna (luna.c), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.anbg.gov.au/anbg/mammals/c-w-bat-sm.gif

I'm outta here.

The Bat (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I would never do that.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

For free.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you ever get that package I sent you, Lara?

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.sportchalet.com/graphics/product_images/p215991nm.jpg

luna (luna.c), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

These threads are so much better than Friendster.

If only because ILE's servers are a bit more reliable. (Course, if ILE crashes, all of the mad mentalists will hunt me down....;>)

Dan: you are welcome to add me, as well.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope - what about you? Second time lucky?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Nothing yet. Shit on a stick!

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 4 August 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought I had added you, Nichole!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Bryan, if you have sent me shit on a stick I do not want to get this package ANYMORE.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Liar.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck off, porn breath! What goes on tour etc.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

There wasn't any (literal) shit in the package, but there were Hot Rods, maple syrup, a Don Cherry (not the jazz guy) CD, ice tea mix, Clodhoppers, and a bunch of other crazy junk.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder what a Hot Rod is?? To bed with this imagination, methinks!

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr Noodles to thread!

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw Bryan, you never gave me a Hot Rod!

Kim (Kim), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

(that's a freebie you pervy QOOC people)

Kim (Kim), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I would get so much more use out of Foester than I do of Friendster.

Larcole (Nicole), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Well Kim, I did get you all loaded and feed you a pork tenderloin, nudge nudge wink wink!

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

(sorry)

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Did I thank you for the pork?

Kim (Kim), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank-you Nichole!

Friendster is quite handy if you live in a town that is largely made up of woods and cows, and you want to find other humans in the area with the same interests as you...

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 05:25 (twenty-two years ago)

...such as raping cows in the woods?

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

This is why I deleted my Friendster profile. I don't want to be associated with this.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

A wise decision.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I have just discovered that an entire wing of my college friends are on Friendster. Heh.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

You have "wings" of friends? WTF?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I am a man-museum.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks, indirectly, to Friendster, a tiny bit of intact heart I didn't know I still possessed has been shattered.

I will be looking for cheap, meaningless sex this weekend to numb the pain. Perhaps Deathster can help in this way too?

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

OH NO one of my high school friends has posted a pic that contains what might be one of the worst pictures of me ever taken!

http://www.friendster.com/viewfullphoto.jsp?id=2444079

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeez, Dan, why don't you say you were in Color Me Badd more often?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, I did it all 4 love.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

jacob from alabama just told me the he saw my profile and that I look like a cool guy and he has invited me to 'holla back'.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

And have you indeed holla'd?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

no, thanks.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i tried friendstering Sucette, but she disapproved of and rejected me

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

otoh, i got a nice surprise yesterday when Juila A friendstered me out of nowhere. everyday is a new day w/ friendster

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Heads up, Vic!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey RJG I just go the exact same message from this 'Jacob'.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Friendspam!

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe he's just a holla ho.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

He's a Spice Girl?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

No, they were dolla hoes.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

zig a zig ah!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Ho ho.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan, that picture of you isn't nearly as embarrassing for you as it is for the other two.

Chris P (Chris P), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

yay, Sarah friendstered me - and we have almost same # of friendsters ! we must grow and expand our personal networks together (did i just type that?)

I will shortly friendster both N and RJG, watch out boys (my name is NOT jacob, btw)

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

chris - friendster me, i couldn't find u on there, but i looked, i swear!

goes 4 everyone else 2!

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

vic, you can add me as yr friendster if you like.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan, that picture of you isn't nearly as embarrassing for you as it is for the other two.

But why am I dressed like I just got caught from an open audition for New Edition????????

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Vic, are you Vik? If so I have added you.

Chris P (Chris P), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

the dude to your left is like an extra from Saved by the Bell, Dan!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

jel & chris thanks !

ok question for all: exactly what would be the friendster etiquette as far as waiting for people to approve of your friendstership goes ? 1 day? 1 week? 1 month? there have to be some guidelines about this or social mores or something, since i discovered some people i went to hindu camp with in 1993 and 1995 and stuff and even though i couldn't see the profiles (since theyr'e outside of my personal networks?) based on first and last name, i think it's them...but it's been more than a week now, and if i want to friendster more people, i'll have to cancel my requests of them and any dreams of hindu camp reunion special will be dashed to shattering heartbreaking bits

but then again there could be a lot of neha kotharis and samantha dekas in the world and i just got the wrong peeps u kno?

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan, you would be a style hero if you continued to dress like that now.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan is a style hero regardless. He even transcends his beard!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Larcole, if I continued to dress like that I would also be single 'cuz my wife don't play dat.

the dude to your left is like an extra from Saved by the Bell, Dan!

OH NO YOU DIDN'T! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I have no idea if I should tell him that or not. That's classic beyond words.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Vic, I invited some people to be friendsters early on, but they weren't set up on there yet. Several weeks later they started popping up on my list.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Larcole, if I continued to dress like that I would also be single 'cuz my wife don't play dat

More of Joei's wisdom shines forth.

You style hero, you could always scream individuality or that you are into retro

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

haha@N.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

oh sarah, these are users who are already on friendster...not invitees. they're probably the wrong people. sometumes u can make new friendsters this way though: i friendstered this girl who i thought went to my high school, same exact name, even the picture could pass as her, but she's apparently from rancho something in california, 3,000 miles away from the other chick i was looking for who eventually went to harvard

another question: if you tried adding someone as your friendster, and they were on your list of people who yu are waiting approval/confirmation from, but suddenly they're not on that list anymore, and they never were added to your friendster list either and you got no email about them being your friendster...does that mean that they actually said NO when the big read font asked "are you friends with X" ? ??

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend, who also quit, just sent me this:

http://www.lasagnafarm.com/archive/2003_07_20_archive.html

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Those are good reasons for quitting. I find all the 23 yr old Williamsburg hipster chicks totally intimidating.

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, I was asking nick about the 'holla back' invite from jacob and ally C piped up and said he had it, too! did anyone else??

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

From above link:

"But really, walking up to strangers on the street and awkwardly introducing yourself is the new Friendster. Haven’t you heard? "

Fantastic. This weekend I think I'm going to walk up to decently attractive people ask "Favorite Music? Book? Movie?" then if they give some decent answers follow through with "Great, wanna take me home and fuck me?"

I'll let you all know how it goes.

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still befuddled that people are trying to use this to hook up.

Chris P (Chris P), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

And then leaving when it doesn't so much work!

Chris P (Chris P), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I still find it most interesting as a kind of low-level sociology experiment.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still impressed I might have actually made a new friend with it - a real in-person friend!

Sarah Mclusky (coco), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I miss my fake friendsters like God and Chewbacca. Chewbacca left the absolute best testimonials.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm on there if anyone wants to be my fake friend. I don't remember how you find me. My email address is backwards here. Or you can find me through Sarah.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I do miss the testimonials - nick and sam and sarah and ally left fantastic ones... (and other people I've forgotten because I'm senile now)

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you return to friendster after you've deleted your profile? And why did you leave, luna? Why oh why? Oh, I think I remember you saying it was zapping up all your time..?

I ask lots of questions.

Or you can find me through Sarah.
Yes, because Nick is in my heart!

ha ha

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

OH MY GOD. My high school friend who posted that horrifying picture (the redhead, not the "Saved By The Bell" extra) has just given me the best testimonial ever (inspired by that pic):

"Dan did his darndest to teach John and I how to dance. We spent the first few weeks of instruction mowing Dan’s lawn and staining his parents deck while he played righteous beats and shouted the names of popular dance moves at us. “Robocop,” Dan would shout, “Running Man!” and I’d edge the lawn like the runningest man in the world. Dan told us this would help us to “conceptualize the dance”. When we graduated from “Project Whitewash” we began practicing actual dance moves while Dan slapped our buttocks with overripe zucchini. Dan never gave a satisfactory explanation for this method, and we never got to see the video tape of the sessions, but Dan was the master and we, the lowly pupils. We worked all summer, through the joy and pain, the sunshine and the rain. Finally, our first recital came. Gun night at the Eagles Club. A total failure. All the silk shirts and baggy, low-crotched pants in the world couldn’t save us. Dan cut us loose, but to this day we thank him for his effort and his patience. Dan is a good friend, an unparalleled pedagogue and he can execute a flawless Roger Rabbit."

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Amazing stuff! Rah for Dan! :-)

If anyone else wants to add me as a friend, plz send me an invite...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

That sounds exactly how I would expect a testimonial from a friend of yrs to sound like Dan.

All of my testimonials make me sound like a violent, nympho, drunk. Oh wait. . .

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

And why did you leave, luna? Why oh why? Oh, I think I remember you saying it was zapping up all your time..?

Yeah that's a large part of it. Some other boring stuff, too (like being stalked by psycho exes). I wondered about the rejoining thing, but it's a little like riding the tilt a whirl again soon after the fat kid puked. I might wait a little longer.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Teeny on Friendster? Teeny, join up! I want you to be my friendster!

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

ME too, teeny!

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Thirded!

does posting pictures work?

http://photos.friendster.com/photos/11/85/1035811/246130022747l.jpg

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 15 August 2003 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, so we can now post pix of our friendster pics/friends/bookmarks/crushes etc!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 15 August 2003 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Note when posting friendster pics that the friendster user id is contained in the picture filename!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 15 August 2003 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Forget the Friendsters, just post more pictures like that!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 15 August 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't take that one. That is actually "Fusion" from Friendster, which is kinda sorta funny.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 15 August 2003 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Moose sez: "My musical taste is boldly eclectic -- transcendent and hip, yet with a reverence for the traditional: Mozart, M.Jackson, Too Short, Eminem, Fairuz, Jewel, K.Rodgers, trance, Salt Tank, 2pac, verve pipe, DMX, debke music "

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 07:31 (twenty-two years ago)

damn I'm in lurve

Dave M. (rotten03), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

how can one's taste be transcendent? isn't that a little immodest (whatever it means)?

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a perfectly cromulent word!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

"Transcendent and hip"! God I'm going to restart my Friendster profile if that's the type of people on there, that's amazing.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

We spent the first few weeks of instruction mowing Dan’s lawn and staining his parents deck while he played righteous beats and shouted the names of popular dance moves at us. “Robocop,” Dan would shout, “Running Man!” and I’d edge the lawn like the runningest man in the world. HAHAHAHA!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

the pics on my friendster list aren't hawt enough. which of you out there has hawt pikjers for me to add?

do a search for "kingfish" and you should find me, natch.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to suspect it'd be more fun to join three months ago when the network was still growing. When after your first friend you have 36 people in your network, and after your second 8196, something of the organic experience is gone.

On examination, it appears to be all Ned's fault.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 25 August 2003 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

And now my third friend, Ned, has accepted and I have 144,800 "people" in my personal network. You bastard, Raggett.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 25 August 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I just accepted you, Andrew. DON'T FUCKIN' CALL ME A BASTARD!!! **smooch**

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 25 August 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, thanks! Count is now 152219, so you didn't bring that many (8000!) new people to the party. Ned Raggett is the center of the internet.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 25 August 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned Raggett is the center of the Internet.

The center of the Internet is made of nougat.

Ergo, Ned Raggett is made of nougat.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 25 August 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I am indeed rich and creamy, and covered in caramel.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 25 August 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

If Ned asks you to nibble at his creamy filling, is that sexual harrassment?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 25 August 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i knew he must have had some ulterior motive when he friended me so easily. and i don't even like sweets.

allyson (schmanktenputchka), Monday, 25 August 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Man!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 25 August 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

(psst I am back on Friendster under email garance80@yahoo.com I find I am still too lazy for proper email but loud broadcasts across networks are a-ok, add me if you want, ok bye)

Ally-zay (mlescaut), Monday, 25 August 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey remember the b**tyflakes story?

So this is the person who gave us the word "bootyflakes"? What's the point of living after a legacy like that?
;^}

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 25 August 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay for Ally, but now I need to come up with a new testimonial cause I have no idea what I wrote last time. This time I may invoke a goat.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 25 August 2003 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i happened upon this random friendster page via a "search for favorites" thing and was astounded by this man's great taste. it turned out to be an ilxor, cozen to be specific. yay cozen!

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I now have 95 friendsters and approx 600k people in my network. I *must* get to 100. I owe, at least, everyone who has given me a testimonial one in return. Soon my pretties, soon.

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 04:27 (twenty-two years ago)

So many of you kids were nice enough to add me as you friendster, and I'm curious who else on here wants a tall boy with strange eyes as their friendster! Come on, it'll be fun...

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 05:41 (twenty-two years ago)

My current group of friendsterz is somewhat stagnating, so I'm desperate to be accepted in a new gang.. Please?

Fabrice (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 06:59 (twenty-two years ago)

'Astounded' wow. Thanks amateurist. I always thought I was another case of 'barely definable taste strikes again'; never thought I had good taste. I keep cringing when I look at my Friendster profile but I can't be bothered fixing it.

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

For some reason today, friendster will not display at all in Mozilla or Galeon. Weirdness.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

it did on opera this morning.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

DO IT! DO IT!

Dale the Titled (cprek), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Texas, can I be your friendster please?
I have 6 friends and I must get to 10!

mei (mei), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Mei, Be my friendster! I mean, you sent that mix to NA and I really like so we should friendsterize ASAP.

Plus, I only have a little over 60 friendsters. Woe is me!

Luna, refriendster me!

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm new to friendster so I'm not sure how to friendsterize you Sarah, so I sent an invite to yr amail address above. If that doesn't work, invite me?

Glad you like the mix. NA sent me a CD of X10 which I like a lot, especially yr voice.

mei (mei), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

No-one has invited me since ages. i only have two testimonials. Friendster sucks :(

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i take pride in my small group of friendsters.

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 28 August 2003 03:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll add you alisa... can I add anyone else, or have I scared you all away? lol

Oh and where is Vik? He wrote me quite a random nice testimonial.

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Thursday, 28 August 2003 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

amateurist will you be my friendster?

s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 28 August 2003 05:15 (twenty-two years ago)

sure. just search my ultra-secret real name.

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 28 August 2003 05:29 (twenty-two years ago)

ha I forget your last name! actually I don't think I ever knew it!

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 28 August 2003 06:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I got a friend request today from someone whose name I don't know. Could they confirm that if I sort of spell out their initials I've got it right?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 28 August 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

LIke I said I welcome all IlX0rs as freindsters. Don't "invite" though, that's only for people aren't on friendster at all.

Do a user search, enter my email: dallasdeadgirl@netzero.com, then click on 'add as freind'

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 28 August 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

(martin, that might have been me)
(i've joined. only 77 other new zealanders on friendster!)

Ess Kay (esskay), Thursday, 28 August 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

And the Ess Kay is now my friend, that lovely man.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 28 August 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought it might have been you, yes - I'm not very good at noticing people's email addresses.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 28 August 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't been posting under a login for a while.
(now there's 97 other NZers in my personal network. wonder how many total?)

Ess Kay (esskay), Friday, 29 August 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I apologize to all who I/Batz have snubbed, but Friendster is not allowing me to log back in to my account.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 29 August 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha Larcole got banned for putting up a bogus photo.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 29 August 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Y'know brackets work better in the context of yr own discourse

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 29 August 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Wha'?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 29 August 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

SOMEONE'S being overhumble in the presence of ILX, a privilege he doesn't extend to real life personages. He is being generous in his use of brackets.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 29 August 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 29 August 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I the only one for whom all Bulletin Board postings have disappeared?! This happened like two days ago and I haven't received a post from a friendster since..

Just wondering if this is just me..

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 2 October 2003 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

There seems to be some real problems with the basic messaging software at least -- I've had various folks tell me they've been trying to send replies but can't even get in the system most of the time. Hm.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 October 2003 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been on the shit since it opened in March. It's free, beats the hell out of nerve, carries more info, etc. etc. I have a ton of friends - real ones - from all over on it. Old girlfriends getting a hold of me from Japan, high school buddies, kids I ain't seen in 6 years. Sometimes I use it in place of email. And the bulletin board is clutch - beats the shit out of mass-emails when you need people to know something. I say classic.

Major Grubert (Grandin), Thursday, 2 October 2003 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr. D, that happened to me earlier this week, then they all came back. weird.

Even weirder a friend of mine had his profile, friend list and all testimonials just disspear today. He's having to build the thing up from scratch again!

(fears for own profile)

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 2 October 2003 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 2 October 2003 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that applies to friendship generally.

I so do not want a testimonial from him.

This is also the man from whom I stole the term "Massage The Rapist" (as a replacement for massage therapist, natch) years ago. He's like one of my favoritest people ever.

New happenings at Friendster; when you log in you're presented with a couple questions asking about how far out you want to be connected. It's cool because the graphic is a hexagon map which reminds me of Starfleet Battles!!

Also, site seems much faster.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 21 February 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

*tests all this* Yeah, definitely a step up so far.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 February 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I just noticed the same thing. Looks like they've finally got some advertising going which means they could afford better servers than the Colecovision they had running before.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Saturday, 21 February 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

friendster tells me "Do not upload photos containing children, pets, cartoons, celebrities, nudity, artwork or copyrighted images."

does anyone have a photo that covers all of these categories??

amateur!st (amateurist), Saturday, 21 February 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Jon Williams (ex machina), Saturday, 21 February 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

A hand-drawn approximation of Macauley Culkin chasing after that stupid spider on the cover of the Home Alone novelization is about as close as I think you can come.

(The spider's naked?)

Because I'm such a big ass loser (as opposed to a big assed loser), I just joined Friendster a couple of weeks ago, but really have no earthly clue has it works, and the only person who has asked to be my friend is...er....Jaz Coleman (to say that I doubt the authenticity of this individual's purported identity is like saying I doubt that the earth is flat). So, anyway, someone help a white boy out and tell me what the fuck I'm doing. Thanky, Spanky!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 29 July 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

earthly clue how it works.....clearly, or how to spell, for that matter.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 29 July 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

Friendster is kind of dead. It still doesn't work properly - I've had the same "new message" notice for two months. Frankly myspace, despite all it's haphazard and vulgar oddness, is much more compelling and useful.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 29 July 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

Myspace is SO SLOW and installs spyware.

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Friday, 29 July 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

install a spyware blocker/removal tool. And I've not found it to be particularly slow (maybe if you're on dial-up.)

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Friday, 29 July 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

Myspace is SO SLOW and installs spyware.

This is not true of myspace itself.

However, it may be true of certain profile pages you might visit there (just as you might visit certain pages anywhere on the net). Also, it's never slow for me.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 29 July 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

Actually, I've been having horrible page load times for everything on it, not just people with shitty pages. Logging in takes like a minute at least. Tons of "unexpected errors", etc.

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Friday, 29 July 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

You need to join Friendster's crappiest cousin, Multiply! That is what I'm on.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 29 July 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

xpost, hmm, I'll get a "server too busy" or an "account under routine maintenance" page occasionally, but I've never had long delays with logging in...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 29 July 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

myspace

Latest Update: 05:22PM PST, Friday, July 29th.

friend counts were previously inaccurate. we're running database jobs to update the counts and show the true number of friends you have. so if your friend count suddenly drops in number, you didn't lose friends, you're just seeing the accurate number of friends. don't worry, you're not less popular. thx

YO also - if you are in the UK and you can't get to MySpace this morning, it's because British Telcom decided to shut down your access. this has happened before with other ISPs - they don't believe the amount of traffic we're pushing is real. so go here and tell them its real and you want your myspace back!!

Has anyone made an application that will like download/archive all your old Friendster mail and testimonials? Seems like only a matter of time before the site dies off completely but I have a lot of sweet old memories on there.

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 25 January 2009 20:36 (seventeen years ago)

i haven't logged into my frienster account for a year; lately I seem to be getting an awful lot of obvious spam notifications from it though.

akm, Sunday, 25 January 2009 21:21 (seventeen years ago)

although apparently it is still the biggest social networking site in much of asia, mainly the phillipines. also, wikipedia claims it holds four giant patents on what amount to the entire concept of social networking. so it's probably not going to die off any time soon.

So, uh, as of sometime last summer, Friendster is now...an Asia-centric video game community site. Your login still works but all your content is gone. Wow. Should have seen this coming, obviously, but I sort of let myself believe all those emails would be there forever. Damn, man. Damn.
