When Was The Last Time You Threw Up?

And why?

I blew chunks this morning during my government test. Luckily, I made it to the restroom and into an empty stall first, instead of honking in front of the whole room. I think my eruption has something to do with some medication I taking.

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Few months ago, when I had a bad migraine.

Last weekend. I remind you, cheap tequila = Satan.

Last weekend, friends going away party. After seeing a Queens of the Stone Age sound-a-like band I went outside and let it go. I think their sound put me over the edge.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Yesterday morning...although it wasn't a proper throwing-up so much as a my-sinuses-clearing-down-my-throat-into-my-tummy-while-I-sleep-and-my-body-doesn't-want-to-digest-all-this-sinus-gunk-so-it-decides-to-send-it-back kinda upchucking. This actually happens almost on a daily basis. I don't mind so much.

The last proper puke I had was about 2 months ago after an attempted drowning of my sorrows and frustrations in 2 pitchers of beer drank by myself between the hours of 10 and 1. Hoo-boy that was a doozy.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

In May. After breaking my "one drink, one mix" rule at a cocktail party.

Jodi (Celerina), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't even remember, but whenever it was, it was almost certainly alcohol related; I rarely if ever come down with illnesses. Even alcohol doesn't really have that effect on me anymore. I'd have to drink like a fifth for that to happen. Probably did it like a year or so ago. Oh wait - I do remember - it was last September after a party at a friend of mine's. I'll say this, puking definitely makes you feel better afterwards.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

New Year's Day! At first, I assumed it was an after-effect of the evening before. As the day wore on, and the next one too, I realized it was actually the stomach-flu thing that rampaged up and down the Atlantic coast this winter. Wotta way to start the year.

JesseFox (JesseFox), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

About a month ago, after a friend's very wild party where I consumed some Strawberry Daiquiris that were LETHAL. I puked out the window of a moving vehicle.

Mandee, Wednesday, 2 July 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh that's always classic.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Last night I had a dream that I was throwing up. I remember this mostly because at the end of the throwing up, I did that normal thing where you gather up the liquid in your mouth and spit it out. Except I actually did this in my sleep, not just in the dream, so I was woken up by my own saliva running down my face and into my ear. Thankfully there wasn't much of it, and I hadn't actually puked, obviously, so it was more funny than anything else.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Must've been in December after my company's annual-xmas lunch-followed-by-extravagant-drinking fest. Actually, it wasn't the drinking en masse that did it so much as the shot of tequila (or some other nasty likker) one of my co-workers forced onto me. I have foresworn shots of pretty much anything in light of this, as that was the second xmas in a row where I horked due to "doing shots, man."

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't even remember. I never throw up from drinking and haven't gotten sick enough to throw up since, I don't know, I was a preteen or early teen? Weird.

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

a few months ago - and in the middle of class. i didnt make it the bathroom. i threw up all over my hand as well as the floor. all while remaining seated during the lecture! i didnt tell anyone about it either, but left guiltily while avoiding eye contact. i think it's important that this is my first post to ILE, it is very telling of the things i like to talk about.

black plastic (black plastic), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

About four months ago. I ate at Long John Silver's. I not only puked, I hardly left the bathroom for three days.

DON'T EAT AT LONG JOHN SILVER'S! EVER!

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Sometime in the summer of 2001. I got dragged to a "techno night" at a local bar. I can't stand the kind of stuff they were playing (whatever the standard rave music in N. Texas was circa 2001 - trance?), and the beats+Crown Royal made me unbelievably dizzy and nauseous.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

And then what happened? Come on! Give us the money shot!

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't remember. I know I vomited, but the rest of the night is a blur then waking up on my girlfriend's kitchen floor the next morning.

I learned why ravers don't drink booze, at least.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Kenan is OTMFnM. My insurance agency does about 20-30 Long John's locations across KY and good lord some of their claims are beyond disturbing. Chicken heads, knowhudI'msayin? Don't eat there for the love of God.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

christmas eve, i got blotto on purpose when i realised that i made the horrible mistake of spending christmas with my sister and asshole brother-in-law. tequila, vodka, beer, bloody marys - hell anything to help me get through christmas....with those assholes. i, of course, get up around five in the morning, from the bathroom floor as to not traumatise the spoiled niece.

Seven years ago. Just before most of my friends' finals (3 year/4 year course thing, see) we had a big strict cheese and wine booze up culminating in a nasty game of have you ever. I ended up attempting to hit my best mate, having a screming row with my girlfriend, throwing up on another friend's shoes and then swallow diving down a flight of stairs. I didn't recover from the concussion for three days.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

About a year ago from a nasty food bug. My stomach had been really hurting for about a day and I had some other GI tract symptoms. My girlfriend kept on insisting that I keep on drinking more fluids, too! (To get me to throw up and get everything over with, she told me later.) At the time, though, I was convinced that she didn't understand how full I felt and I got into quite the screaming match with her - although she did win. Felt awful, slept for about an hour, then woke up and ran to the bathroom.

Btw, I have to ask this, because I don't think this ever happened to me before that time, but do you ever get some that goes up your nose? It totally freaked me out - not to mention the whole box of kleenex used afterwards to calm me down that no puke was still in my nose.

[...]

Anyhow...

Girolamo Savonarola, Wednesday, 2 July 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I've eaten at certain Long John Silver's without feeling even slightly ill. It just depends on the location, manager, cleanliness of the facilities, etc.

Last time I, um, "blew chunks" was during finals period, May 2002. I not only had the pressures of trying to do very well so I could graduate with a nice GPA but I also had to deal with being ill with flu. I had been study snacking -- a bag of Cheetos, a [Diet] Mountain Dew -- and trying to concentrate on my notes when I felt the need to rush to the bathroom and throw up. I felt so nasty and miserable then. Ugh, it was horrible. In December of last year, guess who insisted on a flu shot? Yup, yours truly.

Innocent Dreamer (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread made me realize just how often i've puked in the past few years. part of the same stomach problems that cause my acid reflux problems, i suppose. (although i probably could lose some weight and take care of that.)

new year's 1999 i went to what was billed (jokingly) as a "puke off the front porch" party. i had a really disgusting glass of vodka and was indeed the first and only person to puke off the porch that evening--i puked right onto some bicycles tied up in the front lawn, and did it right as this girl i was fancying was walking up the house.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank god I hadn't eaten.

New Year's Day (Sorry, Mary :() That was the first time I had ever thrown up after drinking. I blame the disco fries.

Other than that, I only throw up about every three to five years.

Last weekend - a bad reaction to some medication. But that's a regular occurance for me - David says that I have all of the benefits of being bullemic wihout the social stigmata. I think I'd rather pass on the benefits.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Thursday, 3 July 2003 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

You have rest rooms at Blockbuster? V. odd.
I threw up last month whenever I tried to start studying for my exams. Literally every time I sat down at my desk I had to throw up. I was giving up anti depressants at the time so that must have something to do with it, I did it cold turkey and I wasn't meant to.. apparently it rips your stomach to shreds.

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 3 July 2003 04:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Not sure when but only a few weeks ago at most - I have this odd problem where, if I drink too much of certain booze (wine in particular) I am extremely ill the next day. Not while I'm drunk - the next day. I wake up at about 5am, start vomiting flourescent green/yellow bile, and keep on doing so every half an hour as it refill in my guts until mid afternoon. Cant even keep down water when its really bad. Its like I'm poinsoned and my gall bladder/liver is going into overdrive dealing with it. I've learnt how to avoid it but it used to happen a lot, and I had a lot of time off work which I got in trouble for.

Apart from that, the only other more normal puke ive had in recent times was coming down off an e a while back - I took some painkillers, and my stomach said to me calmly "sorry, you dont want those" and I hurled it all back up. Wasnt even feeling ill, it just didnt stay down.

I have only hurled up drunk once or twice as a silly teen who didnt know that half a bottle of southern and 2 glasses of sweet wine DO NOT MIX. Especially not with popcorn.

Popcorn puke is not a pretty sight. Evil little black bits...

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 July 2003 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

a couple of months ago when I realized that the cereal I was eating was moistened with mushroom soup instead of the soymilk I thought was in that rectangular box. breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I thought to myself as frosted flakes did the triple lindy all over the bathroom.

Neudonym, Thursday, 3 July 2003 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Omigod i must be such a fucking drunk. I throw up regularly, at least once a month, while drunk.

Perhaps I should ask "when was the last time you blacked out?" :(

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 3 July 2003 05:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh trust me I get pretty smashed more often than I'd like... I just dont be sick for some reason. Its probably why I'm all poisoned and shit the next day - my liver has to deal with the 6 or 8 wines and pack of smokes I guzzle. Uggggggggh.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 July 2003 05:45 (twenty-two years ago)

about 30 secs after waking this morning...haven't spewed from non-drugs(alcohol really) for long time before today's episode.

A couple of weeks ago. We got Chinese takeaway with some friends. I ate an entire bag of prawn crackers.

I am hideously allergic to fish. Now, normally, prawn crackers contain NO ACTUAL PRAWN AT ALL, and I can eat them quite happily. These ones must have had some kind of fish flavouring cause I was throwing my guts up for days afterwards. Not fun at all!

My worst puking episode was when I was 18, I drank a handle of Captain Morgans with a friend of mine. I woke up in the middle of the night covered in puke, I almost pulled a Hendrix. I threw up for hours, I couldn't stop. Eventually I had to go to the emergency room and a doctor rammed a suppository up my arse because I couldn't hold anything down. Needless to say I'll never drink Captain Morgans again, I can't even smell it without getting sick. And I don't want a jelly rammed up my ass again either.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 3 July 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

on saturday night i was in brussels and drank more than i ever had (i didn't really drink before moving to london. cliche, no?) and ended up experiencing my first drunken puke in a lovely hotel bathroom. sigh. right before that happened i was at a bar and my boyfriend said 'um, are you sure you want another drink? i've never seen you this drunk...' and i replied that i 'wanted to see what happens next.'

now i know. not fun. but people get sick from drink a lot, right? it made me decide to not drink much again. does it have the same impact on other people?

(My non-dreaming answer to this one is: March 2002, at the corner of Houston and Mulberry in New York. Although as repeatedly announced to everyone at the coming fall's FAP, I was feeling pretty twisted then, and in fact tried very very hard and almost got myself to finish it off at the corner of Prince and MacDougal.)

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 3 July 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

A few months ago, coming home after a FAP, sadly on the tube. I hadn't drunk very much - like two beers - so I can't account for it. Some minor bug, I guess. I guess the last time before that might have been almost two years ago, and was down to my having taken 120+ antidepressants in one go - although I have no memory of throwing up, but I'm told that is what saved my life.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 3 July 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

duane, Friday, 4 July 2003 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

lisa are you feeling better

duane, Friday, 4 July 2003 02:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The last time I puked was in early 1992. Definitely alcohol related, we were doing vodka shots and a girl I was attempting to curry favor with was falling behind, so I started doing hers as well to help her catch up. She appreciated it. Anyway, there was one left and my mind told me "don't do it" but I did and immediately knew it was a mistake. Ran out the front door and made it to the railing before explusion started. There were several cars of homeboys there to witness (this party wasn't in the best part of town) who then invited me to join them hanging out on the curb. They called me "hurl." I went back inside the party and they began banging on the door. So I went downstairs and passed out. The best part of alcohol related puking is the lack of a hangover in the morning ... at least it worked for me that night.

Unlike That Girl, I'm surprised people throw up so often!

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Friday, 4 July 2003 02:23 (twenty-two years ago)

about 3 weeks ago, on an archaeological dig in sussex, where every night was drinking night. I'd been drinking a bit more recently (specifically after going back on anti-depressants, which I'm sure I'm not meant to do, but hey, at least I'm socialising more than usual), and had got heavily into white wine. Had two bottles of cheap Tesco's stuff (one and a half of which really quite quickly). Went inside, apparently spent a couple of hours with my head in my hands - I thought it was about 10 minutes. I was, of course, preparing not to move till sunrise so as not to vomit. People persuade me to go to sleep on the couch. I throw up all over myself, little pieces of tomato glistening on my lips, no doubt. Everyone else is hideously drunk, but still manage to realise it might be a good idea if I drunk some water. Being hideously drunk, they manage to give me gin. Well, it certainly woke me up...

Thursday night on a street corner somewhere in Little Italy - a couple hours after the "pint glass telescope" picture in the NYC FAP picture thread was taken. I don't remember much, except that we had been shouting for Millar after he disappeared in search of potassium.

I returned to earth amazingly quickly when I discovered that I had actually sat down on the sidewalk.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahaha! What is up with you and Millar puking all over the streets? That's gross, yo. Better that than my friend Lauren though: she threw up on a BMW parked in front of our building once. That was really nasty.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Glastonbury, Thursday night, too much Perry. Puked - a lot - on the wall of what I thought were the urinals but I now know was the Jazz World Stage mixing desk. Anna came over to see if I was OK and all I could utter was a terrible cry of "AWAY!"

Yeah, he has that effect on people. ;-)

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 08:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Some time last summer, I think. I had one of those horrible 24-hour sickness and diarrhoea bugs where you have to keep running to the toilet but when you get there, you're not sure whether to sit on the loo or throw up in it first.

Thankfully I am not sick often, probably because I don't party as hard as I used to any more and don't really drink all that much these days. I remember one very drunken night some years back though, where I suddenly felt nauseous in the taxi home, and not wanting to make any sort of mess I thoughtfully threw up into my handbag.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't hurled since 1984 -- honestly. I was six, it was during an episode of Ski Sunday on BBC2. The nearest I've come since was watching Very Bad Things, which made me totally nauseous. should i be scared/

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Last Monday after lunchtime. Unexpected bonus of chocolate bar coming up when usually they stay stuck in the bowels of the stomach. You can have eaten 346827364billion bars of chocolate in a day and a leaf of cabbage but if you throw up I swear all that will come up is the cabbage. This was not on purpose I might add, I just felt over-full and WHOOMPH - there it went. One does feel slightly ripped off when they consider that their lunch from Pret cost just under an hours wages.

I have a very poor gag reflex as a result and can make myself throw up on will. I find it extremely soothing and can spout endless psychomumbojumbo about why this might be. It is sometimes annoying and gives me a bad throat and BILE.

I will generally actively try not to vom after BOOZE (I generally want to vom after being full anyway so if I'm full from booze the feeling is mostly the same) because it tastes so bloody damn horrible.

I generally go with: BETTER OUT THAN IN.

Maria, Monday, 23 November 2009 14:42 (fifteen years ago)

The last tine I threw up was in a bar (in the men's room! i am not a man!) more than a year ago. I thought I was possibly drunk and did not eat enough, but it turns out I had food poisoning. I took a cab home and barfed behind the dumpster of my building. And then I barfed for the next 2 days.

PS sorry about your evening. Situation sounds grim.

oops i did not throw up a fork but i bet it would have been extra painful if i had

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 23 November 2009 14:53 (fifteen years ago)

haha! my last time was in august, on the same night i dropped my phone in the toilet and broke it, which cut off my ability to send sad drunk text-messages to my summer fling (i was leaving the country the next day and he had a family obligation). then i vowed not to have more than 3 drinks ever! have lapsed twice but not quite to that point of patheticness.

Maria, Monday, 23 November 2009 15:23 (fifteen years ago)

most recent regurgitative episode: earlier this year, caused by 2-day stomach virus of unknown origin. (thought it was food poisoning at first, but then other people in the household got it.)

the worst thing about throwing up, imo, is the lead-up to it, the hour or however long that you feel queasy and come to reluctant terms with the impending event. when it actually happens, it's usually a relief.

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Monday, 23 November 2009 15:29 (fifteen years ago)

Last week. Woke up, drank a glass of orange juice, then straight after drank a cup of coffee too quickly.

yeah, totally. the five seconds before you throw up are the worst. And dry heaving.

Last time for me was winter vomiting bug earlier this year, probably March or February. Lost a stone in three days, which was about all I could recommend about the experience.

There's a learned skill to determine whether you're going to be able to fight the upset stomach, or if you just need to purge the evil. If you're feeling queasy for a long lead-up, then man up and purge it. Then go back to eating something completely different.

Last time vomiting was after having a sour stomach at a friend's place. I think the coffee earlier in the day, the beer, the brats, and the smores (ugh) were not friends. Felt much better afterwards.

mh, Monday, 23 November 2009 16:45 (fifteen years ago)

Oh man yeah, "one of these things is not like the others" in that menu. I doubt that's sit well with me either.

i don't know how universal this is, but in my college drinking days, i found that if i got hiccups it meant i wasn't going to vomit. (but it would mean i was going to have hiccups for an hour or so, which wasn't all that great either.) not sure of the physiological connection -- like, are hiccups a less violent way of calming nausea? but it was invariably true.

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Monday, 23 November 2009 16:56 (fifteen years ago)

would not want to throw up shrimp.

last time for me was three years ago at the beach in nc -- margaritas followed by beer followed by jack daniels as the sun was rising. so messed up that i don't really even remember the horror that followed, which is nice.

mookieproof, Monday, 23 November 2009 16:56 (fifteen years ago)

If you're feeling queasy for a long lead-up, then man up and purge it.

^^^ Years of drinking taught me this brinkmanship skill re: queasiness. "Can I ride this out or do I need to go to the toilets?" Also worth remembering is that you'll feel a hell of a lot better after bringing it up.

so says surgeon snoball (snoball), Monday, 23 November 2009 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

i almost never throw up - i've got a very strong immune system and don't drink heavily. i've thrown up twice in the past 15 years - once was from booze, i think mainly because i mixed wine (which i don't usually drink) with beer, and the other time was a really bad stomach bug i got a couple of years ago

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 23 November 2009 17:01 (fifteen years ago)

I've gotten to an age when I know if I'll feel better if I just get rid of it, so I'll drink some bicarbonate of soda mixed in a glass water and do it, and it is a bit less painful and nasty.

one year passes...

Early this morning, friend's birthday house party. This friend is long sober, but likes to see others drink. Beer + Honey bourbon + mysterious mint shots I kept getting handed + a bottle blond w/a Marilyn Monroe complex + strong weed = one very soiled upstairs carpet that I was still gentlemen enough to clean up afterwards and a small gift in his yard, not to mention a couple mild messes on the long way home w/my designated driver.

Since I gave up drinking, migraines have been the main cause of throwing up. Bad food and stomach upsets just give me diarrhoea now.

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Sunday, 23 January 2011 14:02 (fourteen years ago)

Last year, once from food poisoning. The worst part of the food poisoning was not the waking at 5 am to vomit, but the subsequent 24 hours of feeling like I had been hit by a bus. And the annoying thing was, I knew exactly the culprit: a plate of nachos that something had just seemed sort of gross about, but I couldn't figure out why. Don't know if it was the lettuce or the refried beans or what, but I've never ordered nachos at that place again.

worst thing I ever drank was a Satan's revenge, which was a shot of combo Goldschlager/Bacardi/Cuervo and I think the fourth was Jack? can never remember. did 1.5 of those after a full night of drinking, went into friend's bedroom, passed out on his bed, then promptly puked all over it.

had a glass of cider @ a BOC show @ slim's (san francisco club), it tasted a bit off, but i drank most of it. ended up outside a half hour later and lost the cider. asked a bartender the next day that i knew that worked there and he said: "oh, you're not supposed to drink the cider from the back bar, it's not refrigerated"
nice storage there, shitheads.
haven't wanted cider since.

Partied way too hard last Saturday (the 15th, not the 22nd) and I the next day I did my usual and hung out w my Sunday crew-we go to this place called "Happy Donuts". On the 16th tho I felt so awful all day, I drank a ton of water & by the time we got to Happy Donuts for breakfast it was 5pm. Halfway thru mine I stepped outside and there was the most convenient place ever to vomit so i did. It was projectile, which is always nice, and as soon as i stopped i felt 500% better.

man you can't make up your mind having tried it so few times.

i had some kind of bug last weekend, spent about four hours in bed on friday night squirming uncomfortably in a horrible half awake half asleep state before finally making it downstairs, violently throwing up a vast volume of mystery brown stuff (i'd hardly eaten anything all day) inc some painful nasal passage action, then heading back upstairs to fall asleep almost immediately.

So I just had to explain to the trainee clerk at Whataburger that they need someone in the men's room asap to clean up the mess I made in their sink. Started coughing intensely while washing my hands and surmised correctly that I couldn't make it back to the stall in time. Believe this is the result of going too long under-hydrated these last few days along with a side of sinus drainage.
