On Sat., July 12 your favorite Brit will be holding court at Sunny's Bar in Red Hook, from say 9ish on.

http://www.newyorkmetro.com/pages/details/8998.htm

After a few hours we will decamp to Lillie's Bar, also in Red Hook, say around midnite and after.

Directions to follow. Trucker hats optional. Hope you can make it.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 4 July 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay! I'm there.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 4 July 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Mike Skinner's hanging out in Brooklyn?!?! Holy fuck, I won't be able to come. But tell him "oi! oi! oi!" for me, willya? thanks

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 4 July 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool!

(hey Mary, are you going to see the Losers' Lounge tribute to Serge Gainsbourg that weekend?)

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 4 July 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

(Rose, I'm not sure about Serge.)

Sunny's Bar
253 Conover St. (btwn Beard and Reed Sts.)
718.625.8211

Take the F/G to Smith/9th St., then get the B77 bus.
Or, take the A/C/F to Jay St./Borough Hall, then get the B61 bus.

Take the B61 bus toward Red Hook. Get off near the end of the line at Van Brunt & Beard Sts., walk 1 block right and 1/2 block left. Or take the B77 bus.

Driving from Manhattan: take the Brooklyn Bridge and get off at the Court Street exit--then take a left on Cadman Plaza West, which will turn into Court St. Go about a mile, past Atlantic Avenue, and take a right on Sackett Street. Continue straight, across the overpass over the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, and take a left on Van Brunt Street.Continue down almost to the end of Van Brunt (you'll see the waterfront up ahead) and take a right on Beard Street. Go one block and take a left on Conover Street--halfway down the block you'll see a big sign that says BAR.

Of course Yancey claims the best way is via the Bergen St. subway stop. Maybe he can explain.

Another option: take the F to Carroll Gardens and call the Arecibo Car Service -- 718.783.6465. It will cost around $6.

Lillie's is close by:
46 Beard St. (at Dwight)
718.858.9822

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

For the less adventurous types, there will likely be a pre-FAP meet-up Fri. the 11th at Bellevue (538 Ninth Ave, btwn 39th and 40th Sts., around the corner from Siberia.)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone been to the Liberty Heights Tap Room?

http://www.parkslopebrewingco.com/lhtr.html

They serve pizza. Maybe we could meet there for dinner *before* the drinking commences. Or is it lame? We should also turn this into the Red Hook general info sharing thread.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 05:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder if this Mexican restaurant, Alma, is a classic or dud.

ilovemap (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 05:40 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, this time I expect slurred rantings from our favorite Brit.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 05:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm definitely up for either/both Friday and Saturday--Andrew will still be in town Friday as well so we should definitely do something, if not Bellevue (best bar evah) something.

Spencer, you'll get them if it's the last thing I do. Which it might be, my liver is rapidly shrivelling.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 06:00 (twenty-two years ago)

so this thing's definitely on? if so, i may go ... esp. since i missed gareth last time he was in nyc/philly.

Tad (llamasfur), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 06:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Go Liver!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 06:04 (twenty-two years ago)

It's on.

slurred rantings

this arrived in my in-box today:

"by eck, si'thee, take us down that there snicket,
a'reet?"

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 06:06 (twenty-two years ago)

after my last ripped to hell night, i was told my IM messages were 13 or 14 on a Gareth scaled of 1-10. I hung my head in shame.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally, you (and the rest of the kogirls) must come both Fri. and Sat. of course.

By the way, has anyone ever eaten at the Hope & Anchor?

ballasttimes (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 06:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I think in some strange way, I might want to be one of these "kogirls".

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 07:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, fly out for the weekend. We'll set you up with some kogirl shit!

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 07:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I see Spencer more in the Koji Yakusho schoolteacher role in "Bounce Kogals."

http://www.dvdasian.com/cgi-bin/dvdasian/14784.html

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 07:32 (twenty-two years ago)

(Actually, he's not a schoolteacher, but a "suavely dressed john."

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 07:34 (twenty-two years ago)

We should get those outfits though. I actually saw these GREAT outfits the other day, sort of had similar bomber jackets to the ones we have (the polo ones and the japan ones or whatever they were, from urban Outfitters) BUT different. There were color coordinated kilts to go with them. One of them had the word ISLANDIA sloganed on it. You might remember Islandia from the Bridesmaid thread, so obviously I need that outfit.

"Suavely dressed john"=best phrase possible.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Here is Spencer, with rose.

http://www.pymmik.com/films4.html

Though he looks better on this German page

http://members.tripod.com/~Kuroto/fk/yakusho_koji.html)

Yes, Ally, I think bounce bounce kogals will soon replace girly sports style.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 07:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Cor! I went to Lillie's on my last trip to NYC! Rachel was eating a bowl of cereal in the bar and Lillie ran up to us and said it was the best thing she'd ever seen. They were playing reggae. I liked it.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Here is Spencer, with rose.

!!! Spencer=in back of

http://bitchcakes.topcities.com/images/tuxmask.gif

???

Oh no! BNW being replaced by Spencer as Tuxedo Mask! Oh no! bounce bounce kogal style is more me though, I think I need to streak my hair again anyway.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 07:53 (twenty-two years ago)

'Koji 2: Avenging Koji' school teacher by day...

actually I really want to become a Leiji Matsumoto character like Capt. Harlock:
http://eclipse.cs.pdx.edu/pictures/people/harlock.jpg

so I've stopped eating altogether and I've been on the latest fad workout machine here in L.A. They call it the "Rack"

(nb - there may not actually be any such thing).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

but where's red hook's famous mustard yellow pimp-kogal?

Tad (llamasfur), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 07:55 (twenty-two years ago)

(btw those outfits, like the bomber jackets, came in three different color designs. So we still can make our girly gang style)

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

(I love how the jackets we got 1 month ago are no longer cutting it. I want to check out the bomber+kilt.) We should turn this Red Hook Fap into a giant cosplay. I have a sailor shirt now (not the authentic ones that Phil and I have to save up for) but a trashy number from Patricia Fields. And of course the white tennis skirt. Too bad Nabisco Toll House won't be around.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:20 (twenty-two years ago)

(I declare the theme of the Red Hook Fap to be sailor. Michael Daddino, are you listening?)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, since I'm playing at ABCNoRio on the 13th, I can make this. Michael Daddino, DO YOU HEAR? WILL NEED FLOOR!

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

What? What? I can't hear you! La la la la!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

FLOOR! FLOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRR!!!!!!

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Floor? Florida? Flouride? Floral arrangement? Florence Henderson?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyway....you doin' some improv thing? LUCKY. FUCKING. BITCH.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, on trumpet.

How to be a brilliant trumpet player: play eight hours a day for ten years, then don't play at all for ten years, then pick it up again. Eureka!

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe I will go in a tux and top hat to reclaim my title.

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

bnw, you know i still luv you

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

This is now also the Welcome Back to NYC BNW FAP and the Bon Voyage Thanks for the Memories Andrew F. FAP. I just remembered, Andrew says one cannot plan to go to Bellevue, one must simply end up there. So maybe we should think toward the Rockstar Bar aka Local 107 in Williamsburg. I think they have mermaids.

http://www.villagevoice.com/issues/0314/bosler.php

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Ending up at Bellevue from Williamsburg would be quite a pub crawl. Sailor theme is a-ok as is tux and top hat but I will wear the not-cutting-it jacket I bought a month ago with the skirt that I wore already for the faptastica or whatever that July 4 thing ended up being called. Hopefully with the jacket on people will confuse it for a new outfit?

Or maybe dressing up like mermaids is the way to go?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

If you're going to wear the oh-so-passe team jacket maybe I should also. And with a kilt? Hmmm. Decisions decisions. I really should have picked up some of those platform kogaru boots when I was in Japan. I never knew that they could come in handy. Change sneakers for platforms and girly sports style becomes instant bounce bounce kogal.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I would lend you some of mine but I bet my feet are much bigger than yours. I have much platforms from my "Hello, I'm Lady Miss Kier from Dee-Lite who are you?" phase. It might be too hot for the jacket but I think I will wear it anyway.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

(Maybe we should eat at Mermaid Inn in the EV.

http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/35396045/ )

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Er, the Bellvue thing was to be Friday, as I'm over the waves on Saturday evening.

An idea that would be cool but I'm not married to is that we never went to Karaoke last Saturday because we had to go to Astoria by means of the NYC train system sticking its dick in our ears.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

(Andrew, call me in approx. an hour re: tonite plans, I am leaving "class" then. I LOVE COMPUTER LAB SESSIONS but not so much the having to turn off phone)

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorted.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

aw man! i'm not gonna be in nyc this weekend :(

can we have a pre-waterfront fap also?!?

geeta, Wednesday, 9 July 2003 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I no make it back up this weekend

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Dada, Wednesday, 9 July 2003 02:16 (twenty-two years ago)

HOWEVER

myself and the Lukage (that's Luke-edge) will be rolling up all in your NYC sheezy come the next weekend because we are ROXXOR and also very enthusiastic about BOOZE but you already knew that.

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 02:16 (twenty-two years ago)

So, like, should I just remove my liver now or what?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 07:34 (twenty-two years ago)

You can be like David Crosby!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

That's possibly the worst thing anyone's ever said to me, Spencer.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

We're off to Wildwood now; we may not be back till Fri day, but we are definitey planning on something for Fri night-- Bellevue or whatever you guys want, except karaoke, which G. hates:(

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I say we go to Hi-Fi.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, it's your liver.

Wait, I don't even know what that means!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

You know, I hope your keen interest in my liver means you are coming this weekend!! Get a flight, they are only hundreds of dollars! This is the Hi-Fi.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

It also has a pinball machine: RollerCoaster Tycoon, designed by Pat Lawlor. I appreciate this may mean little to most of you.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Right now I might be coming but I need to get my speedometer fixed and somebody needs to come up with a good place for me to park. How awesome are all of you, again? Oh, right. I'll do my best.

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, I'll come too.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I know all the places to park in NYC, inexplicably considering my lack of driving. Phil, you have to come, there might be someone who didn't hear your train story...

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 10 July 2003 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.coolfunnypictures.com/doh.jpg

Dada, Thursday, 10 July 2003 01:14 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth hates karaoke?!?!?!?!?!

my image of him is totally shattered now

geeta, Thursday, 10 July 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

No wonder he didn't perk up upon mention of the Brass Monkey whilst visiting L.A.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 10 July 2003 05:15 (twenty-two years ago)

All right thinking people hate karaoke.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 10 July 2003 05:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I rule the Karaoke machine. But could not even entice Gareth to this with my claims at rocking the hiz-zous with my Eminem "Stan" take.

He also fears beans.

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 10 July 2003 05:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Now the beans thing is the mark of a crazy person.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 10 July 2003 05:44 (twenty-two years ago)

All fun-hating people hate karaoke.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 10 July 2003 09:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yup, darn right we do.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 10 July 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

there are two good karaoke songs in the world. They are "Spill The Wine" and "Love Shack." Everything else should be left to the professionals.

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 10 July 2003 09:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, well, that post doesn't take into account "I'm Real" or "Don't You Want Me" or "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" and it totally ignores every Smiths song ever! I'm gonna karaoke "The Queen is Dead" if I go to LA if it kills me.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 10 July 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

He also fears beans.

Maybe he had a bad experience with a beanstalk?

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 10 July 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe he is a follower of Pythagoras?

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 10 July 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

they like beans though: that's why they refuse to eat them!!

bounce ko gals = A GREBT MOVIE btw

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 10 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought it was because they feared flatulence, like Hitler and meat.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 10 July 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm gonna karaoke "The Queen is Dead" if I go to LA if it kills me.

This is a sublime vision.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 July 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont fear beans

gareth in wildwood nj (gareth), Thursday, 10 July 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

But do you fear New Jersey?

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 10 July 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Who wouldn't?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 July 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Wildwood is cool, yo.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 10 July 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

But Gareth you shunned the pitcher of beans! What's wrong with you? Fule.

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 10 July 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

uh parking (phil has offered to let me park by his place but I sense that I will have serious trouble finding it since I have no map of the boroughs)

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 10 July 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

you can karaoke lots of smiths songs (orange juice too) in philadelphia, and you can drink really cheap beer to boot

maura (maura), Thursday, 10 July 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

you can get out of your car, ask a cab driver to go to my corner, then follow him

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 11 July 2003 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

hope to see y'all tomorrow. hope to be awake tomorrow.

(hmm, being ko gal v. being Spencer fite)

zzzz (gabbneb), Friday, 11 July 2003 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar, check yr email.

Everyone, where are we going tomorrow? Bellevue? The one in Williamsburg? Hi Fi? Pluses and minuses to all: Bellevue: we have been there but it is cool. Williamsburg: it sounds awesome but two FAPs in brooklyn in one weekend heavens etc. Hi Fi: Huge and with awesome jukebox but is only ehhhh vibe-wise.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX makes the vibe I thot

Millar (Millar), Friday, 11 July 2003 07:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Paul was alleging that we can't dance at hi-fi. It seemed like he was claiming that more than two people can't dance anywhere.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 11 July 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, technically he's 100% correct. It's not just a Hi-Fi thing, it's an entire city thing. It's really technically illegal to dance at like 99.9% of bars in NYC. Where is Kevin Bacon when we need him?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I vote Bellevue b/c it was the first place suggested and I ain't never been there before.

bnw (bnw), Friday, 11 July 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok! 10pm or earlier? Lead the way, Tuxedo Mask!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

10 is fine by me. Is anyone else going? (Does that even matter?) Maybe the floating gareth head should have a vote.

bnw (bnw), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

He's floating over Wildwood right now though?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

more photos dang it

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

No!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

maj to thread! We shoud woo felicity into coming since we will be somewhat near her 'hood. And rosemary. And whoevah.

bnw (bnw), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Psst bnw I think they pretty much are coming. See upthread for Mary stating she wanted us all to decide as she was off to NJ.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Daddino and I will be there.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I get to finally meet Colin Meeder?!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

LOOK BEHIND YOU.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

You look suspiciously like my coworker Dean!!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm coming, i don't have to work

maura (maura), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm just going on Saturday. Can we have a pre meetup in Manhattan or something, so we can all travel to Red Hook together?

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I just finished my 8 hours at work and changed and now I'm going to hit the road. I am bringing my other hawaiian shirt but not the sunglasses. See you there.

Millar (Millar), Friday, 11 July 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Meat for Millar, Part Deux.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 11 July 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Premeetup is good, if no one else is interested at the very least I will meet up with you, Rosemary.

I can't believe Tom is actually coming back.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

we back from nj, so what time we meet tonite? and where? so is bellevue? i think we arrive maybe 9 or 10

lafayette penoril council bluffs project leader (Mary), Friday, 11 July 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

You two are drunk already, heavens! Tonight, Bellevue, everyone to arrive between 9 and 10 and maybe we pub crawl from there.

Dance Commander Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

im really sick, but i'll try to come.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Only a week has passed since an NYC FAP and I wanna go to another one now wah wah wah pity me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

We have no pity for you, you antiKeanu freek.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i would like to go to one for the first time, have fun freekniks

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally lacks pity.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

The Return of Captain Obvious!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

That's NINJA of the obvious, thank you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I REITERATE BELLEVUE 9 OR 10 PM BEFORE THIS GETS DERAILED AGAIN.

Anyway, Ned, I see no kung fu skillz in your set of talents.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

They are of the mind.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Or the sideburns.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

MENTALISM

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 July 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

See you tonight everyone -- and don't forget to conserve some nrg for the RH FAP.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 11 July 2003 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

can't make it tonite. :( will try for tomorrow.

gabbatwerk (gabbneb), Friday, 11 July 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

So the pre-fap was a success: drinks at Bellevue, which wasn't kicking it half so hard as last weekend, wasn't kicking it at all really, then cabbed down to Lit for an evening of Britpop and American shoegaze.

We didn't see everybody last nite though, and the people we did see we to see again of course. Gareth says, "See you in the 718."

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 12 July 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

any meeting details yet (possibly hypothetical)?

ernest tubb dodge city deposition digest society (gabbneb), Saturday, 12 July 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

None that I know of :(. I guess I'll call Ally.

rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 12 July 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

"See you in the 718"--Gareth has finally fully become the G-Child

Meeting details prior, I think me and Tom are going for food somewhere shortly so if you two wanna pick a place for people, call us with the 411 and we will meet you there.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 12 July 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going to call you right now, Ally.

rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 12 July 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, we are meeting at the Manhattan Mall in front of the Body Shop at 8 so we can all take the F train together.

rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 12 July 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh! The mall closes at 8 so we shall meet outside then.

rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 12 July 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

We're heading off soon -- remember, first Sunny's and second Lillie's.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 12 July 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

*rubs eyes, shakes head*

Whee! Friday night was fantastic! One more night to go...

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Saturday, 12 July 2003 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Sunny's was amazing-- right by the water with all the twinkling lights-- so romantic in the evening -- but the majority posse wasn't feeling it. Next to Lillie's-- but an exorbitant $5 cover kept us at the door. Millar then led us to Boat in Carroll Gardens. I hoped to finish off the evening at the Gowanus Yacht Club but it didn't happen.

Moral of the story: You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 13 July 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Sunny's and Lillie's both had great live music, afaic - a string band at the former, surfabilly at the latter - though it wasn't clear if the music at Sunny's was a regular phenomenon or freak event.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 13 July 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Best. Voicemails. Ever.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 13 July 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but would you eat yourself, Spencer?

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 13 July 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh other points of order missing from Mary's description: myself, Millar, Rosemary and Tracer headed over to Tracer's house afterwards. Rosemary was k.o.'ed but the rest of us listened to old techno, some disco Beach Boys track, and "Poison Arrow" for like 5 hours or something, while drinking Presidente--Gareth and Mary, you should've stayed the course with us, it was sort of like Coney Island...

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

(though fwiw, and Mary we spoke about my opinion of the whole matter, I would've been happy to stay at Lillie's with the Hawaiian leis and the surfabilly and still think that when there are ten of us and one of them, "them" should come to "us" but ANYWAY)

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, I remember Poison Arrow! And the disco Beach Boys.

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 14 July 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that Lillie's was quite happy we didn't come in: perhaps our bounce bounce Warriors tableau filled them with fear.

The girls were ready to Coney Island it: F train to Avenue X sunrise express, but the male deadweight killjoys wouldn't know a good idea if it bit them on the nose. Oh wait, this isn't the thread where we rage.

I think I disappointed Carey with my lack of fidelity to girly sports style. Tobias said that Colin has a perfect German accent.

How did I resist the ionic pull of Tracer Hand? It had something to do with the memory of the last time I walked to his house -- which makes no sense because I was coming from a different direction.

How long did it take after all? Or were you smart and called a cab?

(I think we told Byron the wrong subway stop to get off for Boat.)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 02:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(Alas, I found you anyway.)

bnw (bnw), Monday, 14 July 2003 02:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Best Red Hook anecdote (given by our mentalist cab driver after he inexplicably after incredible duress delivered Gareth & I to the bourgie Liberty Heights Tap Room for pizza and beer--check the rules): "I never would have believed that people actually live here!"

Best cab driver anecdote (given by same driver after I politely attempted to inquire after his route to the Brooklyn Bridge from the L.E.S.): "You nearly killed me!" -- said while mock choking on his pungent dinner.

Felicity -- I think you would have liked the baseball field between civilization (Carroll Gardens) and Red Hook. Very exurban.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 02:20 (twenty-two years ago)

It only took about 10 minutes to get there--and that's including time spent with Tracer pissing, Millar giving shout outs to random people, and me doing my Beyonce imitation.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh--we should have come--though perhaps it would have meant that Gareth wouldn't have made his plane tonight--oh, we really should have come!

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 02:26 (twenty-two years ago)

(Ally: refresh my memory ie the significance of Islandia.)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Also not only would he have missed his plane but he would've heard "Planet Claire" played way too slow and Anthony Perkins singing in French :( :( :(

(Islandia is the seemingly-completely-made-up town where the hellbeast wedding was!)

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

OMG I forgot how to sleep

Millar (Millar), Monday, 14 July 2003 03:56 (twenty-two years ago)

add beer

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 14 July 2003 04:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Which was the Islandia one? I only liked the one with the rearing lion on it cause it looked like fake Pringle.

You must go to Metropolis -- 3rd avenue around 10th st. right near St. Alp's Tea House -- they have nice My Little Pony purple T-shirts. I considered buying but didn't want to bite your style.

Gareth liked tapioca pearl taro drink shocker!

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 04:34 (twenty-two years ago)

(Does anyone wanna come over and drink beer? I bought all these nice summer brews for when Gareth was here but we never got around to drinking it.)

I hope Anchor Steam is good. Also: Summer Sam Adams, classic or dud? I seem to recall drinking it before and it was weird but I couldn't resist the packaging.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Sam Adams is weird, I don't like any of their beers.

The bartender at **** was really nice, he let us smoke!

I'm still annoyed about the cherries. I was going to bring cherries but I forgot them in the floorboard of my roommate's car, and now he's given the car to his brother for the weekend, so it's quite likely that the cherries are hurtling eastward towards Roslyn, Long Island.

It was great to see gareth, and great to finally meet gabbneb! Also we were blessed by a swell cohort of non-posters. High-calibre chaps.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 14 July 2003 04:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Smoking in bars is the new not smoking in bars. Lit the night before was (also) lit up.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 04:57 (twenty-two years ago)

(And it was probably safer for him to allow you to smoke inside rather than standing in front outside with your glasses of beer accosting passerbys like frat boys ahem.)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, this is why humans invented SMOKING INSIDE.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 14 July 2003 05:11 (twenty-two years ago)

(downstairs at Lit is dependable for this)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 14 July 2003 05:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Great to meet you too Tracer (and Colin and gareth, duh), and you are otm re Sam Adams.

My summer beer seems to be Budweiser. Saranacs of various stripes strike me as summery. Anchor Steam = yum (though not so much summer).

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 14 July 2003 05:20 (twenty-two years ago)

No one had any Magic Hat?

django (django), Monday, 14 July 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, Anchor theme = not so much summer per se, but the anchor decoration fits into the girly sea style iconography, ergo, summer.

I love Sam Adams: It used to be my favorite beer along with Bass, until I discovered the discreet charms of my new trinity: Bud Lite, Miller Lite, and Coors Lite.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Sam adams has always rtasted awful when I've had it, but mary, how could you trade bass export PA for Bud lite?

Ed (dali), Monday, 14 July 2003 05:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Believe me, it's not for the taste;) Though I was shocked to find out that I could get incredibly drunk on Lite docket. As Gareth pointed out, it's less calories, not less alcohol.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

[They weren't feeling the Red Hook vibe, Ed:( ]

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

grr. How much to buy a building down there? It must be one of the cheapest waterfront neighborhoods in the city.

Ed (dali), Monday, 14 July 2003 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's ask Ikea :( :( :(

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 06:32 (twenty-two years ago)

grrrrrrrr

Ed (dali), Monday, 14 July 2003 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Seems like someone named Gregory O'Connel would be happy to make you a deal.

http://www.villagevoice.com/issues/0249/kim.php

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 06:42 (twenty-two years ago)

How do you buy a warehouse and make the lofts "legal"

Ed (dali), Monday, 14 July 2003 06:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Pay a lot of $$$ to change to zoning??

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 06:49 (twenty-two years ago)

How come no one has mentioned the WILD DOGS???

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 14 July 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Or the lezzing up?

Mary, the Islandia jacket was the black one with gold lettering. I forget what was on it besides that...you're right though, the jackets we already have are better for their designs; however I like the shiny puffy satinesque quality of the ones currently for sale. Useless point since neither of us wore the jackets anyway, but I did love your sailor rock look.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, that too.

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 14 July 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The dogs were really freaky, wtf was that about anyway? That whole bit we walked down was like a scene from The Warriors, or maybe even so far as Escape from NY.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks Ally! Gareth convinced me that dressing like I was going to costume party was a good idea, but then again, when is it not....

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

It is how I live most events of my life, to be honest. I note that Gareth never follows his own advice, regrettably.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Precisely! We learned many unfortunate things about Gareth this weekend--pictures to follow surely.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I learned that every time you take a picture of him, he stops what he is doing, makes a suave raised-eyebrow face, and vogues a bit, holding a cigarette.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

This you have only just noticed!

Ed (dali), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I learned that. What I learned involved a hat perched perilously to the side of the head followed with Beastie Boys–esque arm movements :( :( :(

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I've only seen him three times previously, and didn't have a camera at all times for previous events--how was I to know? I believe I am owed a bit of a reprise in my unaware status.

Haha! But the Beastie Boys movements were so good! I also learned Gareth is apparently the only boy in the NYC ILX crew (honourary status) who appreciates the lezzing up! They're all such big talkers! Gareth is walking the walk.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

who'd he walk the walk with?

Ed (dali), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

He walks alone.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i dance alone

gareth (gareth), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

You didn't! I have photographic evidence.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

[insert Sarah Lawrence joke as to why lezzing it up is so passe]

bnw (bnw), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

{insert random comment about Gareth}

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

[insert pic of Ally kissing homeless guy]

bnw (bnw), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Back to the smoking outside thing, it really tears our party assunder, I keep thinking that all the fun is being had out there, and then I go outside to see for myself and it's just people standing around smoking. Do you all cease with the hi-jinx and random hilarity the second I arrive?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

So NYC then, you can't drink outside and you can't smoke inside. What about doorways.

Ed (dali), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Also sometime when you follow the party outside you find that it really stinks outside (EG the mod club), and the smokers don't care because they haven't smelled anything since Bush Sr. was president.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary just totally dissed the non-smokers.

bnw (bnw), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Believe me, Gareth made use of these, holding the drink inside and the cigaratte outside;(

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha Byron, I didn't mean it that way! (Are we going to Sarah Lawrence soon?)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

(insert pic of Byron standing on a burning car or some shit)

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

There won't be many students up there in the summer I suspect. But we can still go and cruise Bronxville if you want.

bnw (bnw), Monday, 14 July 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I want! Wanna come Ally?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes! When shall we go?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking this weekend, but then again this weekend is Siren Fest I think, so maybe next weekend?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

OK! If we can go this weekend, I might have access to a car if Otis comes down and comes down on car instead of train. But Siren Fest is not often, Bronxville is there always so obv. take priorities!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, I got back pix--Eli wins the amazing shirt contest, surprisingly. It was apparently reflective--he looks like he is glowing with the light of god! In every single picture. It overtakes everyone else with the beam eminating from his chest!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally, when do you get back from the Met? Do you & Otis wanna go to Siren? Is Bronxville a possibility for Sun.?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

It was much fun, and great to meet people! Also left out is the fact that half of Don Cabellero walked out of Boat when we walked in.

I liked Sunny's; it had a real Fell's Point/Annapolis twenty years ago sailor bar vibe. The acoustic work shop was . . . pleasant, but you couldn't tell much difference between "Jolie Blon" and "In My Father's House" when they played them, which isn't a good thing. The surf band at Lillie's seemed cooler, even though they screwed up "Pipeline".

Somebody went for a smoke and never came back, so that's one less head case I'll ever have to meet.

And there's no way Tobias said I have a perfect German accent -- more likely he said I didn't have much trace of an American accent when I speak German; I speak German like a Viennese garbage collector. Tobias is very cool and I hereby insist he start posting more often! (He and Gareth and I bonded over our love-hate relationships with the US.)

I left early 'cause I had a gig yesterday, which went really well, and then as I was putting my trumpet away I got vicious stomach cramps, which is why I was semi-concious in Daddino's bed (and who hasn't wanted to be in that position?) when y'all were AIMing last night. I'm better today.

Next stop: getting you New York folks to take the train ride down to Charm City so Millar and I can pick out the bars.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Somebody went for a smoke and never came back, so that's one less head case I'll ever have to meet.

too late. anyway, sorry bout that. "somebody" was getting bad vibes from someone else and wasn't up to spending the evening going out of her way to avoid her. nice to hear you had a good time, colin.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to come to Charm City; is that Baltimore? -- I love Baltimore. Speaking of charm, sorry if I wasn't my usual charming self, I was in a bit of a pout over the truncated Red Hook visit. Carey revived me though with talk of girls fashion.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 July 2003 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I was all about the fashion talk. I still have no clue about this bouncey bouncey thingy but I will sure try.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Just FYI, JBR--I asked people to go look for you. Leaving five seconds after another person shows up is a shitty thing to do and a shitty position to put your supposed friends in and that's all I have to say about that. You succeeded in making me feel terrible about what has been up to this point a v. funny one-sided comedy hatred.

This is the last thing I have to say about this bullshit publically.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't speak for my friends. I've already explained and apologized. It's really less of a big deal than you're making it out to be. If you wanted me to stick around you shouldn't have given me the evil eye the second you saw me; I was being perfectly polite to you just as I've been through all of the recent FAPs.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 03:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth, where are your pictures?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 21 July 2003 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i am waiting for them to be developed right now

gareth (gareth), Monday, 21 July 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

He and Gareth and I bonded over our love-hate relationships with the US.

The hate part = the fact that he doesn't live here.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Gareth has no hate for us. Though he hasn't shown us any picture love so maybe he does :(

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

But part of what we secretly hate about the US is the fact that our hate must remain secret or we'll be stripsearched at airports for the rest of our lives!

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I Love Love/ I Hate Hate

That picture of Tracer doesn't look like him at all, it took me a minute (even with caption, it just didnt' compute in my head)

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

apologies for the compression on these pics. i'll try and tidy them up and repost later

gareth (gareth), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

There are no bad pictures of Byron ever, I've decided.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally's perspective trick of making it look like everyone in a photo with her has giant papier-mache heads continues. And she's taught it to rosemary!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

The problem is that you all do have giant papier mache heads. Filled with candy.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Best picture of Tracer ever. He looks like a GQ model.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 25 July 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

That pic's cool you can actually see that my eyes are different colors

Millar (Millar), Friday, 25 July 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

gabbneb looks like he could be either my brother or my cousin ... so much so that it's scary.

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 25 July 2003 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the part where you explain you actually are gabbneb and this is why "Tad" never shows up at our meets, isn't it?

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 26 July 2003 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

WRONG -- GABBNEB IS BOTH NICER AND SMARTER THAN I AM

Tad (llamasfur), Saturday, 26 July 2003 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

(whoops -- caps lock! gabbneb is also softer-spoken than i am!)

Tad (llamasfur), Saturday, 26 July 2003 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, he'd never shout at me, you asshat.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 26 July 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

whatever (tho the softer-spoken part is true beyond a shadow of a doubt). gabbneb doesn't know if he fears being a subject or being pictured more.

(gabbneb also thinks there needs to be a battle between floating gareth and millar heads)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 26 July 2003 04:09 (twenty-two years ago)

You don't want that battle to happen. After nine days of destruction upon the innocent landscapes and peoples of Earth, Gareth-Head and Millar-Head would end up reconciling their numerous differences and decide to rule the universe tandem stylee, enforcing our epicurean techno dance creed over all of humanity and etcetera.

It is written.
