For years, the company had production facilities in Massachusetts, North Carolina, Texas, and Mexico.
So I guess Mexico was the one place other than the US that they used to be produced.

This is from a 2001 article in the Cape Cod Chronicle <http://www.capecodchronicle.com/column_020101.htm>:
The company is also closing plants in the United States and Mexico and selling its North Reading headquarters building for $15 million. Half of Converse’s products are already manufactured in Asia; financial analysts said one of the company’s downfalls was its insistence on keeping part of its manufacturing operations in the United States after most other sneaker makers had shifted to cheaper foreign markets.

chucks are bad shoes, fall apart easily, expensive and are uncomfortable. also i find the people that wear them usually lack imagination and character. this does not make me a shoe snob.
― chaki, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:46 (eighteen years ago)
I said I would continue to steal Chuck Taylor knockoffs from charity stores when this was originally posted, and I have kept this promise.
― roxymuzak, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:47 (eighteen years ago)
how many pairs have you stolen?
― jergïns, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:48 (eighteen years ago)
i support your decision to wear knockoffs as they are probably less than half the $54.99 retail OVERprice of actual chucks.
― chaki, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:49 (eighteen years ago)
I have had two. When the first pair wore out, I wore them into the store and wore new ones out (of the store).

NOT TRUE
PEOPLE THAT BUY CHUCKS ARE SHOE SNOBS
― chaki, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:53 (eighteen years ago)
That's also not really true.
― roxymuzak, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:57 (eighteen years ago)
I bought chucks because they let you build custom ones on their website now. Also, nobody else really makes a black leather sneaker with pinstripe stitching.
― El Tomboto, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:57 (eighteen years ago)
vans suck now too
― remy bean, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:57 (eighteen years ago)
chaki otm, Chucks 'r' Balls! You cannot do any laborious tasks in them with near the ease of actual sneakers or tennis shoes. Have you ever seen footage of someone saving people from a burning airplane that has crashed and if, so, has the Hero been wearing chuck taylors? NO. Perhaps a would-be hero in Chucks tried but couldn't swing it because their shoes caught on fire and started to melt at the same time.
― Abbott, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:57 (eighteen years ago)
They also look nice. xpost

― El Tomboto, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:58 (eighteen years ago)
i will rep for jack purcells. those are comfy, well put together shoes. i dont buy shoes on websites. i like to try them on.
― chaki, Monday, 8 October 2007 23:58 (eighteen years ago)

chucks go with pretty much every informal outfit and dont commit you to a shoe-based stereotype... also theyre not so uncomfy if you get inserts.
― max, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)
in middle school i used to have chucks covered in neon green tennis ball felt. i thought they were cool. in fact, they might have been if i hadn't worn them with my matching red sweatshirt/sweatpant combo, or my plaid tyrolean hat or the huge plastic frame glasses i bought b/c i thought they looked cool on the kid with downs syndrome.

Mostly because that would be AN INSANE AMOUNT OF MONEY to pay for canvas sneaks. Although I do love Chucks as the default sneaker.
i bought 3 pairs of sneakers last week for $110, one of which is a pair of converse slip-ons that are basically vans ripoffs. those were the cheapest, at $19.99, probably cheaper than whatever chucks were available at the store (i didn't look).

― chaki, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 02:56 (eighteen years ago)

So the solution is to go barefoot.

chucks are defly horribly made and uncomfortable and last about 5 minutes. still i will always have a sentimental soft spot in my heart for black high tops and of course girls who wear them.

Chucks are pretty cool. They hurt sometimes, but if you wear them on and off with normal shoes they are alright. I spent way too much money on these recently: http://www.keepcompany.com/images/products/large_images/Tob_BO.jpg They come soon in the mail. I hope they fit!

― chaki, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 05:43 (eighteen years ago)
yeah, I'm bored with vans slip ons though, ergo, weird decisions happen.

I've owned a pair of Chucks continuously since 1987 when I mail ordered a pair from an ad in the back of Transworld Skateboarding. I'm wearing a pair right now that I've had for five years now. Maybe this is why they're still intact and were cheap when purchased.

me too. i like them they just hurt my feet a lot
― jergïns, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 09:10 (eighteen years ago)
i got them too, i like them bc they weigh like next to nothing. i destroy them pretty thoroughly but i always destroy shoes. i had the blackspot sneakers once and they were a lot tougher but it felt like wearing clown shoes.
