I haven't eaten a real breakfast in nearly three years. I just can't be bothered. Do you eat breakfast? How much time do you set aside for it? Do you wait until you're at work and then go for donuts and coffee? Instant oatmeal at home over the newspaper?
I hardly know anybody who actually eats breakfast anymore, actually. WTF.

Clearly though, a well prepared breakfast on the weekend is one of life's joys. A full English on a hangover is always a classic (especially with hash browns), even though you know it's a heartstopper and 9 times out of 10, the grease leaves you gagging, but when it hits the spot, God it's good. My speciality is eggs benedict though. I make rocking eggs benedict. Mmmm... eggs benedict... Nothing beats it. Although stawberries and champaign comes close, now that I think on it.

Rarely feel like cooking anything, but don't like anything too sweet for breakfast. For awhile I was going with cheese, these little single-serving packs of Black Diamond cheddar. Now I'm on this Chex Morning Mix stuff, which is sweet, but not like Pop-Tarts or something.
This morning -- microwaved minestrone.

Sometimes I go on this kick when I decide to actually give a shit about my health and not just slide into a series of debilitating blood sugar crashes versus super activity, and then I eat breakfast but eating in the morning tends to make me queasy if I'm taking my meds which I never fucking do anyway so I should just eat.
I had a bagel yesterday but there was so much butter on it that I thought I was going to die from mouth greasiness.

real american breakfasts are one of the things i miss most about home. real pancakes. french toast. waffles. morningstar farms veggie sausage. i wonder if i can bring back frozen sausage next time i visit? i'd imagine that the people scanning my bags would be confused...

The Big Stop used to offer your choice of 3 out of 4 meats: bacon, ham, sausage or fried bolonia along with 2 eggs, toast and pan fries with coffe. The fact they used the term "3 out of 4 meats" was almost as great as the meal itself.
Sadly not too many here have ever known the wonders that is an Irving Big Stop.

I had a Dr. Pepper on the way to work. This is not unusual. If I were to call something 'breakfast,' a carbonated beverage would be it, at least a couple of days out of the month.
While attending this insipid seminar on how to transition from military to civilian/private sector life, I visited the nearest vending machine. I was 'networking' when I attempted to purchase something simple and decaf when my hand (guided by fate, I'm sure) accidentally slapped the wrong button. I ended up with 20oz. of cold Dr. Pepper instead of water or sprite or whatever I was going for.
Over the next two hours, I drank said 20oz, bringing my caffeinated soda intake to 32oz for the day.
At 1530 or so, I was clenching my fists repeatedly and flexing every other muscle available, bobbing back and forth while taking copious notes, waiting for the clock to strike 1600 so we could fucking LEAVE THANK YOU PLEASE OH GOD SHUT UP YOU FUCK.
At 1620 I was on the highway driving to meet my father who was in PA doing some contract work and beginning to feel slightly dozy from the comedown.
At 1649 I woke up to the shudder of my car sliding along the concrete median, scraping my knee against the speaker cage while I nearly pissed myself.
At 1650 I found my cell phone, produced a gallon of sweat, and stepped outside my car (on the highway shoulder) to survey the damage. I suffered a skinned left knee and a wheel realignment. My Beetle is still completely serviceable by all estimates. I am still alive. How any of this is possible is the result of 1. Fine, fine civil engineering, and 2. The Hand of God.
This is why caffeine is the devil. I spent the following thirty minutes stuck in traffic (which was no fault of mine) wondering why I couldn't just be normal and listen to the Eagles and enjoy doing mathematics and deal with foreign chemicals like everybody else. WTF. I'm never clicking on 'Ask A Question' again.

1. Simple French omelet. Eggs, fresh basil, tomatoes. Served with Turkish coffee (now that I've gotten the hang of it, this is how I make coffee at home exclusively)
2. Stop at Portfolios coffee bar on Junipero and 4th St. for iced latte and bagel sandwich.
Fave breakfast in town is the corned beef hash and eggs at Nick's on Spring St. in the trainyards or the same at the LA Police Academy cafe (it's open to the public, amazingly cheap, plus you get to hear gunfire in the background)

Sugar is a different story altogether. I had to start using equal in coffee instead of sugar because I'd get on these bizarre sugar benders at work, since I put like 8 packets in my coffee, and it kind of frightened people.
But yeah, Tom, you didn't tell me about the skinned knee. Don't do that shit! WTF like you couldn't have just put in another dollar and chalked up the first payment for the erroneous Dr. Pepper as c'est la vie, idiot mistake. Ever since I wuz in France I'm on espresso, specifically "cafe noisette" which isn't actually hazelnut, they call it that because the added milk gives it that color
It's cool because making it in the morning forces me to actually get up 10-15 minutes earlier and then i sit with my little cup of espresso and that is nice
At this stage of the day10 minutes after waking upits super-concentrated form makes the drug-like effects of caffeine far more apparent to me than a grande cup of bitter brown water does. I can literally feel my ear canals opening up, and the skin on my head feels like it loosens up a little. Mmmmmahh. And since espresso is consumed in such tiny quantities I like to imagine I'm not as prone to incidents like the one dave q alludes to above; I could be wrong about that but I really do think it was the walnuts somehow. Um.
In France NO ONE eats the big lardy fry-up so beloved by Americans and Brits; salt in the morning is verboten. Instead they have LES PETITS SUISSES, tiny FIRM little yogurts that you do a whole rigamarole with just to remove from the container, and then you douse them with tons of sugar and mush them around. The yogurt in France is jaw-dropping!@@! Crème de Yaourt for instance might be the dreamiest dairy product I've ever eaten! Also everyone has cheap little OJ-squeezing machines, even if they don't use them. And croissants of course, but you have to wake up before noon or you won't get any.

Now that I'm working full-time all I can manage is two pieces of toast to be eaten while I make my lunch, or a bowl of cereal or oatmeal (Quaker's Cinnamon Roll) if I get up amazingly early. Coffee comes at work, but I'm trying to keep it to one cup per morning.
Weekends though, I love to make omelettes and french toast and waffles with potatoes at home. Out-of-town gigs are exciting because it means a garaunteed excuse for the oft-mentioned greasy diner breakfast. The best breakfast place is here in Madison, though, they make their omelettes like three inches thick.

Anyway, breakfast today was the Bacon-egg-and-cheese McGriddle, and I was a little disappointed cause it wasn't weird enough. Egg and cheese are strong flavor-masks; the maple flavor was much more subdued than in the straight-up sausage McGriddle. It wasn't bad, it was just ... more normal.
