my head hurts

whenever I have a really bad hangover it seems to be really overcast outside, which makes my head hurt even more

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 19 July 2003 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

will no one ease my pain with a kind word

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I am so sorry - my ability to tolerate hangovers is declining by the year, the last one was so so so awful. Get a nice warm shower, then several more.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

thank you j0hn!

I'm trying to figure out if the 4am poutine was a good idea or not

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

For once on a Saturday I actually don't have one!! I feel great, too. Hey, there may be something to this abstinence stuff...

Yeah, as you get older, the hangovers definitely get worse. So if you're young, s1utsky, take solace it could be worse. My worse ones require like 12 hours of sleep/agony before I even have the energy to get out of bed. Pretty pathetic.

Anyway, water, water, water, Excedrin, hot shower, order a pizza, drink some more beer.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

what is this 'hangover' you speak of?

snotty weed smoker (Oops), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I've definitely noticed that my hangovers certainly haven't gotten better over the years--I wasn't even wildly drunk last night or anything, though I did drink a whole bunch of different kinds of things, which is always bad news.

(so why why why do I always do it?)

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

ow.

ow ow ow.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Drink water, take Excedrin and go back to sleep.

rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 19 July 2003 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Pizza? Jesus if somebody even says pizza to me when I'm hung over it hurts me in my heart. Saltines, I say.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 19 July 2003 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I say peanut M&Ms! though the fuckers are taking their time kicking in!

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 19 July 2003 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Water while you're drinking. Bam, no more hangovers.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 19 July 2003 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Unusually high terror level in the face of humanity. In office on weekend; paralyzed by rage directed at chatty coworker who came in after me and turned on the lights. Building surrounded by tourists. Spinny head.

Ann Sterzinger (Ann Sterzinger), Saturday, 19 July 2003 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

yep, water while you drink, make sure you eat, too

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 20 July 2003 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

gatorade is hangover aide

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 20 July 2003 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I was hungover Friday and went out golfing at 9 a.m., about four hours after I went to bed.
It was hellish. Over 18 holes, I drank a couple bottles of water and a bottle of Gatorade, but I was still hurting.
Unsurprisingly, shot my worst round in years. Shot 24 strokes worse than last week when I played the course for the first time.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Sunday, 20 July 2003 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I found mself in similar trouble whilst attempting to perform myocardial surgery a mere twenty minutes after I'd gone to bed following a marathon three-week Benedictine binge. Needless to say I punched holes in the patient bigger than my goddamn fist! Shan't be doing that again. Neither will he. Ooof!

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 20 July 2003 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Water while you drink indeed! Last night I was drinking straight whiskey in a sweaty club. no wonder

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 23 October 2003 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Why didn't I find this thread earlier, when I still had a hangover? Sigh.

kate (kate), Thursday, 23 October 2003 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Just got through it myself. I feel for ya. The ambitions are breathing / keep breathing..

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Thursday, 23 October 2003 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

if you are missing your hangover, i'll happily send mine over as a substitute.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess I'll have one of these on Saturday morning, hooray, oh I mean boo.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 23 October 2003 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I found a straw cannon in the laundry basket today. I was so pleased, I burnt it and drew a picture of some eggs with the ash.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 23 October 2003 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The soup and tea have done nothing! I miss my bed.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 23 October 2003 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

french fries and a valium are making it all better.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 23 October 2003 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

So how hungover is Dan Perry this morning? ;-)

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no idea about Mr P, but I am completely incapable of coherent thought today.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

the key is:

1 tablet of vitamin b6 before drinking with a glass of water.
1 tablet of vitamin b6 in middle of drinking with glass of water.
1 tablet of vitamin b6 after drinking, before bed with one glass of water. works like a charm.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Expensive wine = no hangovers the next morning! Admittedly refusing to let other people near my whisky stash when back home could also have something to do with my merry state. However posh wine cannot be had all the time heigh ho bring back the Sarsons.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris I have a feeling that the answer is in "the glass of water" part rather than the vitamin tablet. Rather like my "GUARANTEED HANGOVER CURE" which involved drinking two pints of water before drinking, two pints after drinking and more when you woke up. HMM WHAT IS THIS MAGIC HANGOVER CURE I WONDER.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like shit on the bottom of a shoe. However i only had 4 beers last night. I think it's a week of only 4-5 hrs sleep a night catching up with me. Next period is my off period and I'm going to take a nap on my desk.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

An answer to Nicolars's question urgent and key.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

W.C. Fields was once asked if he took Alka Seltzer in the morning for his (famous) hangovers. He replied, no, can't stand the noise.

How I feel today.

Colin Saunders (csaunders), Friday, 24 October 2003 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I am feeling a lot of pain in my head and neck and eyeballs. Also in post-drinking state of depression, which delicious wonderful espresso is slowly fixing. For breakfast, a boiled egg and toast - when I can be bothered.

As well as the depression I have that giggly thing going on. I'm junk!

rainy (rainy), Friday, 24 October 2003 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

T-minus 6 hours and counting 'til hungover morning w/ mom & son & sister & etc...

nickalicious (nickalicious), Saturday, 25 October 2003 05:11 (twenty-one years ago)

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 25 October 2003 07:04 (twenty-one years ago)

drinking a lot of water always helped that for me though i'll see.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 24 November 2003 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I should be hungover, but I feel great, what the shit? Maybe drinking Guiness last night as opposed to whatever-the-fuck-else I always end up drinking made the difference.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 24 November 2003 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

jesus, this morning i just wanted to not exist. worst. hangover. ever. note to self: following up lots of tequila with lots of vodka, don't do that.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 24 November 2003 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha, that sounds a bit like my Saturday-night recipe for Sunday hangover: start with shitty whiskey, upgrade to beer, a brief aside of jaeger, back to beer, top with surprise good bourbon, chase with shitty beer, close out with screwdriver, awake in a world of hurt.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 24 November 2003 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not hungover, but i do have the flu, which is the same thing without all the fun of having gotten smashed the night before. i need to go out to the store to buy soup, and i can't even get it together enough to get dressed.

bad jode (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 24 November 2003 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Mondays I'm usually on the second day of a two day hangover. But today is different!! The secret? Only 6 beers on Saturday as opposed to the usual 12-15.

The two day hangover phenom was discovered by me when I turned 30 several years back.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Monday, 24 November 2003 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

In case you missed me saying this on the St. Louis thread, I had five G&Ts (I weigh 110#) at the Rapture show and stripped down to my bra and danced like all crazy. This is completly unprecedented and I think due more to the Rapture than the drinking, but hoo boy. Then I sobered up enough to drive two hours, get two hours sleep, and show up for work at 5:30a. My hangover is not nearly as bad as it should be. The huge Denny's plate I had while sobering up probably helped.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

You know, I've never once woke up in the morning and thought, "Damn, I really wish I'd had one more drink last night." Well, maybe once. But only because one more would have killed me.

Salmon Pink (Salmon Pink), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I woke up on my couch at 8am thrashing my limbs and arguing loudly with somebody who wasn't there

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Me, obv.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like I should be able to participate in this thread, but I'm really not hungover, just tired from being up (at a bar) until 3 a.m. and having had to come in to work at 8.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm anticipating a hangover on New Year's Day. Along with most of humanity.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I only hope I can somehow make it back to my dad's house where I can sleep in a bed and make breakfast in the morning, as opposed to waking up on some godforsaken couch next to my bass drum.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 February 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i had a bad one yesterday but i cured it with vegan food

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 23 February 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i am attempting to cure this one with bacon.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 February 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

which i guess is kinda the exact opposite. also i intend to drink a can of heineken soon

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 February 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i really cant drink anymore. i lose an entire day, afterwards. also, in the interest of weight loss, i have attempted to switch up to the hard stuff from beer, which ostensibly was supposed to mean i drink LESS (because, you know, its the hard stuff) but uh haha no.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 23 February 2004 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

oohhh no, it never works that way (smaller drinks = more refills)

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 February 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

it is very bad to steal strongo's rum.

very bad.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 23 February 2004 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i really cant drink anymore. i lose an entire day, afterwards.

me, too. what's up? it makes feel ancient, not to mention slothful. did i go to the gym today? did i clean the apartment? did i take my camera to get fixed? hahaha.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 23 February 2004 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

also i always seem to wake up with some part of my body out of joint. today it is my lower-right back. but i think i remember going to bed with it like that.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 February 2004 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i watched cast away last night before going out (ps it rules, at least until the weird 3rd and 4th acts) and this afternoon when i woke up it was all i could think about, what with me being incredibly thirsty and lying face-first on my bed with all my clothes on.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 February 2004 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

actually for some reason i was also thinking in war metaphors, in terms of how i could get myself to a place where they would serve me breakfast. i called my friend who was equally if not more hungover and yelled at him like a sarge in a wwii movie. i promised him i wouldn't leave him behind.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 February 2004 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i feel all squishy and gauzey and useless.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

the other thing, there was this kleenex box i was staring at that had the advertising slogan "be soft. be strong." on it and i took that as my personal credo.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i have a giant mysterious bruise on my upper arm.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I lost all Sunday as well, and this was after wasting Saturday cos my boi had to work so I like, started drinking at 2 and playing SimCity and harrasing Jim via sms and then it all went to hell and John Cusack movies and so Sunday was lots of moving verrrrryyy sloooowlly. And popcorn, and guarana energy drinks with painkillers.

And more simcity.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

although it happens kind of often, the bruise thing still puzzles me. one would think that no matter what i would remember running into/being hit with something sizeable enough to leave a huge blueishgreenishpurplish mark. one would be wrong, though, sadly.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

my whole body feels like a bean bag chair.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't quite got to the stage of losing whole days to a hangover, but i'm not quite 30 yet so it'll happen soon enough

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:27 (twenty-one years ago)

lightweights

troughman (gaz), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I have scratches on my thumb.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I only waste whole days cause I've never been that healthy/energetic anyway, and drinking (plus smoking) reduces me to a sluggish ... well, slug. If I get smashed on a friday, forget going out on saturday night - I may not be hung over but i'm still totally exhausted by then.

I've always been like that though. I have so little energy it sometimes makes me want to curl up and die in frustration but thats for another thread.

Lauren - Ive had the Mysterious Bruise thing before too, last year ended up with a HUGE one on my thigh, only later when my friend explained i'd tripped over him and onto a chair did I recall it (vaguely). Later that night another friend visited me for a half hour or so. I have NO recollection of that, its as if I was drugged, not a jot. Those kind of total memory losses are scary and happen more than I'd like (not that often but still). Note: mixing booze and w33d is BAD.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm... maybe geeta beat me up! we all know that girl is hell on wheels.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:38 (twenty-one years ago)

if i'd smoked weed last night they'd still be scraping me off the floor

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah the mysterious bruise. I had a four-inch in diameter one recently that stayed for a week. Rather frightening actually. Being slothful and sluggish all day is the fun part of a hangover.

But why are you people hung over? Isn't it the wrong time of day for that?

mouse, Monday, 23 February 2004 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe the scratches are from my fly.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

theres a wrong time of day to be hungover?

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh im not now (tis Monday arvo here now!). I was y'day. Actually I wasnt even hung over, save for a bit of a sinus headache, but that doesnt count -thats the wine allergy. Yes, I have an intolerance to preservatives and salicylates that gives me sinus headaches and exczema, but what do I drink? WINE. I am a dumbass.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 23 February 2004 03:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Anytime of day!

mouse, Monday, 23 February 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 12 March 2004 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i have been looking for my cigarettes for at least three hours now!!! WHERE THE FUCK ARE THEY

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 12 March 2004 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 12 March 2004 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

aieee! not the absinthe. i don't have much sympathy for you in that case, because if you were drinking it then on some level you really want to harm yourself.

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 13 March 2004 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

but it's fun! though i always seem to get into some kind of trouble or another when under wormwood's influence. i dunno, we were having a big party & talent show & well, uh, i have no excuse.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 13 March 2004 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 13 March 2004 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 13 March 2004 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno. i'm intrigued because i really like figs.

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 13 March 2004 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 13 March 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 13 March 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

but what if i'm not strong enough to complete my mission and i end up cleaning my apartment?

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 13 March 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Celebrate your failure after you have cleaned your apartment by drinking.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 13 March 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

and thus the cycle is completed.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 13 March 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i keep thinking it's sunday!

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 13 March 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm fascinating.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 13 March 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

That you are.

Future note to self: Do not go to a party where art students are drinking cheap beer and consume copious amounts thereof. Should this happen, DO NOT then proceed next door and do shots of vodka.

mouse, Saturday, 13 March 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Alternately, do all this, then tell us about it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 13 March 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i was just going to start a hangover thread, and lo and behold.

what do you guys think is the scariest alkie side effect? i'd have to go with lost time.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

DTs, chest pains, mysterious bruises, broken bones, car crashes

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Chest pains are def. frightening. I always chalked those up to my non-liquid addiction, though.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Erm, cigarettes, not cocaine. I'm not that tough, and I have a hell of a time trying to get to sleep as it is.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Getting to sleep is the only reason I ever started drinking in the first place..

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Really? I don't recall why i started, really. I guess its just that much fun.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Strange bowel activity aside, I've been doing pretty well today, considering I drank approximately 14 high lifes (on an empty stomach)between 9:30 pm and 2 am (during the Reverend HOrton Heat's set I was buying 'em two at a time to avoid the bar line) and was up until 4:00 internetting and smoking teh sweet cheeba and got to work EARLY this morning at 7:45.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Very similar story to mine, except change "the Rev. Horton Heat's set" to "Golden Girls."

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

open bar, no dinner. waahhhh. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't worry. On Monday a random stranger paid for my cab (thank you random stranger!) and then (and I don't remember this) I fell through my front door and lay on the floor burbling. My housemate had to carry me up two flights of stairs and put me to bed. He later went back to check I hadn't choked on my own vomit. I lost any ounce I may have had of class or sophistication.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

So true.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

how does one fall through a front door and live? was it made of cheese? or silk?

kephm, Friday, 26 March 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

princess anna lives in a magical castle made of brie and pink tulle.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Anna, you are my hero!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Good lord. No food since a 10:30 am burrito. Only three beers, which was plenty 'nough, but then someone started passing out shots. Shots? Christ, what is this, my 21st birthday? Why do I want alcohol that tastes like maple syrup or cotton candy? God knows. I drank two of them. Then I started making wildly inappropriate jokes. Something about spanking someone's ass until it was nice and red. The details are fuzzy.

The only question is: do I have a beer with lunch, or no?

Verbal (Verbal), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Beer with lunch is U&K

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I have mysterious arm pain but no bruising - what an utter chiz!

I think I enthusiastically drank Tia Maria last night. Lawks a grammercy...

Sarah (starry), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i bruised my elbow the other day in the exact spot that normally rests on the bar. i've had to use the other arm for the lean, which means i face in a different direction. kind of distressing as one reason i like bars is the familiarity.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

stay strong everybody

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Psycho Kate (kate), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

what's an arnica?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

is it like a henway?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

It does nothing for your hangover, but it works wonders on bruises!

Psycho Kate (kate), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Falling through door: one of my friends at university (after persuading a late night bus driver to divert from his usual route to take her home - there was no-one else on the bus and I think he feared for her safety/sanity), managed to open her room, but the sheer joy of this made her pass out, and she woke up several hours later being nudged by the cleaner (Oxford, posh innit) with a hoover, and realised that she had simply fallen sprawling asleep into her room, and had one arm outstretched still holding her keys.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

what's a henway?

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

you should've let me do that

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 26 March 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 26 March 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 26 March 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 March 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like the insides of my stomach are all sloshing around, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 March 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 26 March 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Really? Well, to be fair, my tummy felt that way before the juice, too. I think.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 March 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

mark cunningham (robotsinlove), Friday, 26 March 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Stupidly he phoned in sick this morning, so will probably have a formal warning to join his hangover on Monday.

it was fun though. i rarely get that drunk anymore cuz i usually have to get up early with the baby. my entire body is tingling right now. and my head is vibrating for some reason. i do, however, feel a sense of calm.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 25 June 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Hospital is looking pretty good right now. I have the shakes!

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 25 June 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i cant tell if this is a lot or a little. its too hard not staying in the dj booth doing shots with the dj, and it doesnt help when your boss comes down after closing (i closed two venues last night... the one where i work, and the one where i go after work) and pulls out some rare KMS records.

I am right there with you sir. I saw De La Soul last night, they didn't get off the stage til like 2:30, I was ordering two beers at a time so as to not have to make multiple trips to the bar. If I stand up too quickly the room spins. Coffee isn't helping as much as I wish it would.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:56 (twenty years ago)

Ugh, I need to quit smoking because it somehow always leads me to not eating enough, drinking a bunch of shitty vodka and juice, walking to the bus stop (smoking), going to a bar, drinking half a pitcher, smoking outside the bar in the cold, running out of cigarettes, going to a gas station with crack dealers, smoking more, feeling crazy wasted, riding the bus home trying not to puke, binge eating, waking up late for work with a wicked hangover!

hamilton, this hangover low point is for you: about five years ago, i wound up vomiting the remains of the previous night's frozen long island iced teas (from johnny mango) out of a moving car onto the lorain-carnegie bridge.

that lorain-carnegie bridge is great when it's deserted

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 4 March 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

turns out my friend said this to me. he was trying to make me sick by reminding me of someone i used to live with.

I know this isn't exactly commiserating but since I started taking some super kickass vitamins, it's been well nigh impossible for me to get hungover.

tequila is sort of like plutonium, you can't really protect against it.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 4 March 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

If you drink nothing but high quality tequila, your hangover will be minimal. On the other hand you may wake up in jail or dead, or worst of all, with some other tequila-poisoned victim whose name you do not know and whose company you don't remember.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 4 March 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

Someone recently told me that the way to avoid hangovers was to drink only expensive alcohol, which I know is not the most feasible of things, that's why she told me this months before I figured out it's true. My cousin got married recently and it was top shelf all the way, I've never been so drunk, or felt so great the next day.

i think it's because i usually drink lots of ice water before, during, and/or after i go out (or stay in) drinking.

Physician (to-be), heal thyself!

No for realz, run some saline into yourself for god's sake! Having doc/med school friends was a lifesaver for horrible hangovers. They'd come over and fix me right up!

Note that nothing makes one feel like a true alcoholic dirtbag so much as having your Kmart torch lamp (lol grad school) serve as an IV pole.

quincie, Saturday, 11 October 2008 22:04 (sixteen years ago)

i went running instead, but yeah, i should figure out some IV setup. i learned how to start lines a couple weeks ago!

the valves of houston (gbx), Saturday, 11 October 2008 22:05 (sixteen years ago)

EMT friend of mine worked for an ambulance crew and did this a few times. she said it was like magic.

the valves of houston (gbx), Saturday, 11 October 2008 22:06 (sixteen years ago)

The difference is astounding. One especially kind anesthesiologist friend would even numb me with lidocaine before inserting the line and would add a dollop of anti-nausea meds (can't remember which ones). Twenty minutes later and it was as though hangover had never happened!

quincie, Saturday, 11 October 2008 22:08 (sixteen years ago)

I mean for real when you finish school you could make a killing providing a mobile hangover treatment service. All cash biz, no insurance to deal with. . . loans paid off in no time!

Note: you should probably be based in Manhattan.

Joint Custody (ian), Saturday, 23 January 2010 17:21 (fifteen years ago)

Not enough sleep can do that to me even if I'd only had a couple-three beers. Not enough sleep does all KINDS of weird shit to your body, come to think of it.

kenan, Saturday, 23 January 2010 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

i think 4-12 is plenty of sleep tbh.

Joint Custody (ian), Saturday, 23 January 2010 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

Not if you were drunk as hell when you crashed. Especially not if you didn't drink a gallon of water before bed, and probably even if you did. Drunk sleep isn't really sleep at all.

Joint Custody (ian), Saturday, 23 January 2010 17:38 (fifteen years ago)

Avoid coffee. Seriously. If you don't get all high and shit, you don't crash. Coffee makes the first part of your sleepless day feel weird and jittery, and the second part very very bad. Stick to water, and lots of it. Also, no big meals. Just kind of lightly graze all day. Even if you feel like you want to eat everything ever made out of fried dough, that's just your body being confused because it needs sleep but can't get it. (This also explains the common hangover horny feeling, which has been discussed at length elsewhere, iirc.)

kenan, Saturday, 23 January 2010 17:41 (fifteen years ago)

Also, drink water. And then more water.

I have a theory that you can empirically judge how fucked up you were last night by the time between your first quart of water and your first pee. Sometimes it takes more than one quart.

kenan, Saturday, 23 January 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

And that first pee is always like... ok, remember when the Stonecutters threw Homer's underwear in the fire, and moaning ghouls escaped? That first pee is so, so wrong.

Drinking a pint of water before bed helps, if only to make you and your bladder haul out of bed sharpish upon waking. Then you're up, and water before the coffee you're dying for is a good thing because otherwise caffeine dehydrates and your brain will feel like an anaemic walnut shaking around in the shell that is one's skull.

(this is the 'I've never been drunk' thing from May)

A combination of parents that only drank about 2-3 times a year, a reclusive adolescence, a husband who's a recovering alcoholic, and disliking the taste of alcohol until I was well into my thirties. I drink only at weddings, funerals, faps (I will come to one someday), New Year's, and the like. I am in the odd position of having smoked pot (regularly for five years or so, and I would do it again) and dropped acid (three times, and I want to do that again, too) but never being drunk.

Sorry for the thread hijack. Carry on!

I have to disagree with Kenan's advice that you lightly feed a hangover. Bacon and eggs have set me on the path to recovery many times. For some reason sugary stuff disagrees with me when I'm hungover - I start feeling more headachey. It could be my imagination.

Fwiw arby's, I killed myself with spirits the other week, a blow-out like I haven't had in years, and woke up feeling merely as if I was in orbit round an alien planet rather than any actually physical manifestations of pain.

"When that ineffable compound of depression, sadness (these two are not the same), anxiety, self-hatred, sense of failure and fear for the future begins to steal over you, start telling yourself that what you have is a hangover. You are not sickening for anything, you have not suffered a minor brain lesion, you are not all that bad at your job, your family and friends are not leagued in a conspiracy of barely maintained silence about what a shit you are, you have not come at last to see life as it really is, and there is no use crying over spilt milk."

I have got the worst fucking hangover of my life today.

I'm back in Dublin and I went out at about 2000 on Saturday, I got home at 0100 this morning, no sleep, no cessation of drinking, and narcotics thrown into the mix.

My stomach won't stop churning, I'm sweating like a priest, and very weak.

NEVER EVER AGAIN. I mean that too, I am never having a session like that again, that was the last one.

My lightweightness is really a liability: turned up at 9 to a dub soundsystem that ended at 11, got through three (3) tiny bottles of Guinness Foreign Extra weighed against some jerk chicken consumed with gusto, a bottle of orange juice on the way home and two pints of water before bed, and I am DYING. Immensely glad we actually got proper solid curtains up this week - the previous ones didn't really block light, and light would have been a bad idea this morning.

Could do with some commiseration rn, feeling fucking fragile. Got assaulted at the club last night (repeatedly). I hadn't spoken to or interacted with the guy at all, no idea what his problem was. The bouncers threw him out, but later on his mates decided to have a go as well. I'm not a tough guy & was pretty shaken up. The bouncers them threw ME out for, um, getting attacked too much. I went to my friend's house & got shitfaced, and staggered to work at 8 this morning still in my bloodstained clothes. Hangover just kicked in & I'm this close to tears in the cafeteria. Tempted to fuck off work actually.

Roz, Sunday, 17 March 2013 13:46 (twelve years ago)

Thanks guys. I did, because i did start crying. Silly & pathetic but yknow alcohol. last night's gin & brandy not exactly helping my emotional balance. Normally I'd laugh this off but it's really getting to me. It's not the physical harm (which wasn't all that bad) but I'm so fucking ANGRY at the humiliating treatment I got from the bouncers. Like, they were openly hostile despite seeing the whole thing & knowing I wasn't the agressive party.

I haven't even told the worst part: after they escorted me upstairs I realised I'd forgotten my coat & had to go back downstairs to get it. OK, so they let me back in to fetch it. I asked them if they would mind escorting me downstairs because, you know, THOSE PEOPLE ARE STILL DOWN THERE. They refused to do this, the upshot being that as I collected my coat I was set upon FOR THE THIRD TIME THAT EVENING. afaik those guys didn't get told to leave. The lack of concern for my safety is making me angrier every time I think about it. Fuck those guys for making this day so shit.

Anyway. I just had a big glass of port, and I'm gonna have another. when I'm at meself again I'm gonna sit down & write a strongly-worded letter to the club management FUCK YEAH TAKE THAT FUCKAZ

Was my sister's birthday yesterday and I've made the colossal mis-step of coming into work hungover for the first time since I started this job (been working here for about 4 months).

I think I'm settling in quite well and getting to be on friendly terms with the majority of my colleagues, so I was feeling rather blase about it all on the train on the way in today. Turns out I haven't misjudged an atmosphere / over-estimated my own ability to function at less than 90% since I turned up stoned to my first seminar on the Shakespeare module at uni.

Honestly, feel like an absolute leper. It was noticed and commented on within minutes, and I've made at least 3 basic errors today which haven't gone unnoticed. You could perch a cigarette in my boss's frown lines right now. Idk why I didn't just phone in sick tbh. You live and learn I suppose.

Went for a McDonalds at lunch to try and soak up a bit of the booze floating round my system, but now I'm just slumped over my keyboard, sweating and wishing I was dead. Mortified.

Was almost home when I bumped into a mate, we went to his and somehow ended up killing 2 bottles of wine, ten beers and some mdma. Today has been a write-off, I got up like an hour ago and am now liquid-breakfasting in pub; it would actually be one of those pleasant hangovers were it not for this headache and the knowledge that my poor impulse control means I will be running around later in the week trying to do the stuff I could have comfortably dine today. Have had something similar in the past. Looming anxiety. I think it's a by product of the pickling process.

I'm out walking with a stinko gin hangover. Lol every 100 yards feels like a god given miracle.

calzino, Saturday, 29 December 2018 14:16 (six years ago)

All my fillings ache and I keep having recurring hot flushes. I can't wait to do this again later.

calzino, Saturday, 29 December 2018 14:47 (six years ago)

Commiserations all.

I have blown all my enthusiasm for getting rattled on New Years with a two day Boxing Day bender. Started with prosecco at breakfast in Manchester, ended up 2.30 am the next night spent on Sneaky Petes dance floor in Edinburgh.

Sick three times yesterday morning after four hours sleep before going to meet my pal I hadn't seen in three years, made it to lunch and had to abandon after what felt like a mountain of coleslaw. So disappointed in myself.

The two month detox will be starting a week early this year.

My condolences. I'm an alcoholic from a long line, had blackouts but no hangovers (at least not from spirits), or even reddened face etc. My aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 activity must be through the roof. Towards the end of my addiction I shifted to diluting 95% grain alcohol, and was disappointed I never felt "drunk" until I fell down some concrete stairs.

Sanpaku, Saturday, 29 December 2018 14:54 (six years ago)

I don't smoke on a daily basis but I can't have two drinks without immediately lighting a cigarette, which leads to another drink and then another couple of cigarettes, and so on, until the ineluctable hangover I am nursing right now.

pomenitul, Saturday, 29 December 2018 15:12 (six years ago)

my hangovers became so bad that i had to give up ever feeling drunk ever again. it is quite difficult when you're with people you like and the booze is flowing. i leave early now, basically. :/

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 29 December 2018 15:27 (six years ago)

It’s been about a month since my last hangover. I like to think that I’m getting more able to control myself, averaging about 4 per session instead of 6 or 7 this time last year

calstars, Saturday, 29 December 2018 15:43 (six years ago)

I halved a half bottle of vodka at "predrinks" then finished half a bottle of wine and then whatever I was drinking for the four hours we were in the nightclub and I am astonished that I am alive today

Wine tasting on a weekday.
Friend gives you a free ticket.
An over abundance of spirit stalls.
Overly generous samples, especially from Mr Jura.

All these seemed great things till about 6.45am today.

I was in absolute ribbons on Sunday also. I only ate a little tapas Saturday and was drinking from 3pm until midnight. It's that time of year I guess.

I then went for a walk to clear the existential dread, as it was one of those hangovers, and I met a friend I hadn't seen in a long time while in the park, and while we were standing there talking we decided we might as well sit down, and before I knew it I'd had another skinful.

I didn't feel too bad on Monday though so I guess it was a net positive.

FernandoHierro, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 21:17 (six years ago)

I’d like to think that with my age and experience I won’t have another hangover in my life but I know that it’s just a matter of time

haven't had a hangover since that one time when I was about 24. seems bad! I feel bad for all you folks!

the only things I feel after a night of heavy drinking is a need to sleep a lot and The Fear

the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:20 (four years ago)

drinking alone is about 100% of my boozing these days. I feel deathly today and the paracetamol I took earlier made me feel like sleeping when I had to commit to a 3 mile walk and then cook for 3. Over the worst now and ready to start again in a few hours!

calzino, Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:23 (four years ago)

Had 7 pints yesterday. 8 hours of sleep, Fine today

calstars, Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:27 (four years ago)

In my late teens and early 20s I would still black out on occasion, partly because of how depressed I was at the time – when you're already in a sorry mental state in your waking life, you not-so-subconsciously wish for unconsciousness – so The Fear was a serious concern, but I'm thankfully at a point where no matter how much I drink (well, almost) I have a good sense of what went down the previous night. It's really just the exhaustion and dehydration and nicotine withdrawal symptoms that fuck me up.

calzino, Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:31 (four years ago)

tbc The Fear is not of what I may have said or done (though I do recall that feeling!) it's a general low level gross inexplicable paranoia that makes the whole day after kind of ambiently unpleasant despite having full recall of the previous night

the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Sunday, 2 August 2020 16:31 (four years ago)

I'm moving soon and my roommate is in recovery, which will be an excellent reason to never drink at home again

Sorry Chinaski!

This past Monday I was a wreck— it was my husband's birthday the day before, and we began drinking bubbly wine at 2:30 or so and just kept going until around 9. Apparently at some point I told our friend Z, "Today, I'm going to get white girl wasted," and indeed, that's what happened, but we had a GREAT TIME.
