ILX Fantasy Football League - any interest?

I have no idea how Felicity's baseball one is going, but this could be fun. I did the Torygraph one last year and enjoyed it very much, and amazed myself by actually bothering to maintain my team right throughout the season.

Anyway, I reckon a league comprising the cream of ILE's footballing experts could be very cool indeed (and bloody competetive)... anyone up for it?

Plus it's an additional monster football thread to annoy the haterz.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 July 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm in

gareth (gareth), Monday, 21 July 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i love fantasy football - i came forth against some tough ballers last season so i know my onions (except i support Leeds - hmm) anyway that was the times one which was also good but im in for whatever one we do

james (james), Monday, 21 July 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 21 July 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Which one... Torygraph? That seemed to work well last season and you can do online transfers and the like.

(I get given it free at work so will save the ethical dilemma of having to buy the bloody thing in order to check transfer passwords and the like)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 July 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

"Felicity's baseball one"...

HAHAHAHA

she ownz... last place

:-D

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 21 July 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

aw poor gygax, puts in all that work and is reduced to a bit player by ms redwell's participation :)

i'm up for this although i was piss poor at keeping up with my yahoo one last year...

Chris certainly favours the bbc one which is free, which sounds good to me.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Free is good. Can you do proper transfers and form mini-leagues and the like?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

um dunno, probably...

the simpler (ie pick team, stick with it all season) the better for me ;) but i understand ppl enjoy the cut and thrust of transfers etc.

if there was a big baseball-esque thread i think i'd be more likely to get more involved...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

BBC is free, yes, and transfers etc are all on-line. It's very easy to use. The thing that takes an element of skill out of it is that you can make 6 transfers per month and inbetween game periods there are unlimited transfers, but in a way this leads to more competetiveness. The Torygraph one is good in that you only have a set number of transfers, but has the downside of the Torygraph itself.

Also on the BBC one it's very easy to run mini-leagues. In fact there was a bbc one last year, which I didn't do as I was already in one (which I won btw;o)

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Six transfers a month is rubbish - that just enables everyone to load up on Arsenal/Man United players for when they play Leicester.

Do people want to pay for this (should be about £6-£8), that's the question.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:16 (twenty-two years ago)

You'd think that Matt, but it can leave you right in the lurch with injuries etc, think of it as a squad game rather than the fixed team style of the seventies and before.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

the BBC mini-league thing sounds alright to me - whats all this hoo-hah about paying money?!

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in if it's free.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Feel I should point you here:

www.realfootball.co.uk

Free mit mini-league things.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

That looks like the best option so far, William.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Some of us did the BBC one last year and it was much fun.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm up for it. Where do I sign?

Alex K (Alex K), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll join - must be free tho

David_X (David_X), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:30 (twenty-two years ago)

That real Football - I've registered and all but there are virtually no rules, no set numbers of players per club etc, but hey, it starts now where the BBc probably won't start til mid September.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I have just registered with RealFootball and it looks good, plus you can make an unlimited number of changes to your team before the opening day of the season - after then there is a 22-transfer limit for the season.

Plus new players like Zamora are in there already, which is good going.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm up for it definitely. I did the Telegraph one last year which was pretty good, but if there's a decent free one then great.

I've not looked at the BBC one, but didn't chris say on the other thread that it didn't start until September? It'd be better if we could start for the start of the season. (OOPS - Xpost)

The www.realfootball.co.uk one looks alright, but I guess it's a question of do you want to have just a team or a squad? The Telegraph one is good for running a squad.

The other minor drawback with the realfootball is the lack of assists. A big part of the fun for me is trying to work out which players have got you an assist in a game.

But I'm happy to go with the consensus.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

the company i used to work for set up this great game called Nutmega where you just predicted the exact scores of that week's Premiership fixtures and points were awarded accordingly depending on how close you were to the actual results. not relevant here, but i wish that game was still going (like the Top 40 game, i was obsessed with it but also rubbish at it).

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

THE CONSENSUS IS WRONG. It must be BBC or I'm not playing.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Is there a max number in a league with realfootball btw?

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Good thing - being able to change formation.

Bad thing - no negative points for poor goal difference, so if Middlesbrough get tonked 6-0 your Boro defenders get off scot-free. Also, no assists.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, good point on the goals conceded.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

majority rules and i'll go along with whatever

although i do agree with the whole assists thing but i dont really want to rotate a squad to much - i like the pick a team to a set value at the start see how it fair's and do some changes through the season affair

james (james), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

a very good point indeed, I think the BBc is the winner but hey, the real football is assuaging my pangs for the first week of the season!!

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Why does the Beeb's one not begin at the start of the season? That's madness.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

The Torygraph one never used to either (does it now??)

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

last year we were with the times - its enjoyable and not to taxing - points against for goals conceeded - assists - 50million to pick 11 players and 16 transfers through the season

james (james), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 10:02 (twenty-two years ago)

The Torygraph one started on the 1st day of the season, but as most people seem to be against paying then I think we can happily rule that one out.

Does the BBC one really level all the points at the end of each month?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 10:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt yes but it keeps a record, and the 'real winner' is the one whose 'best three months' points' total is highest.

I think they don't start till late is so that people who get swept along by the season kick off excitement don't get left out.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Last year I kept a running total of the BBc one I was in so we kneew who was the winner at the end of the year,. The league chairman gets updates and details of all scores. I don't mind doing this again, it's no hardship.

The BBC will be starting up again in August, so it may do the start of the season, but my money's on it starting on the first of september.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Last year I kept a running total of the BBc one I was in so we kneew who was the winner at the end of the year

This is very presumptious of you. Who is to say that this is the way to play, rather than the official 'best 3 months' that the BBC rules dictate. I guess the advantages of the BBC way are that you can be more risky because big g monthly scores matter more, and that participants don't get left miles behind by February with little to play for. If you do choose to do it the running total way, then all players should be aware of this as it affects transfer decisions (how big the risks one takes in individual months).

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

As you can see, playing with me is a whole lot of fun.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

The thing that takes an element of skill out of it is that you can make 6 transfers per month and inbetween game periods there are unlimited transfers

Chris, what do you mean by "inbetween game periods"? If there are unlimited transfers at certain points (or even just 60-odd over the course of the season) surely that can get daft?

It's different from running a squad of, say, 16 or 18 - more like your 'squad' being all available players.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

they have a break between "game periods" which are basically months. The break will either be and FA cup weekend, an international weekend or a week with no mid-week games.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

So you could change your entire squad about 8 or 9 times a season AND make another 60 changes as well?

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Leeds utd to thread

james (james), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, it's good, there was an Ilx league on the BBC last season wasn't there?

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Changing your squad that much in a season sounds like a bit of a cop-out, as does this '3 months' rule. I like the idea of a proper league which runs throughout the season where the big boys run away at the top crushing all beneath them. It's like a real league.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

But yes, if Cabbage is willing to run a table himself then this is a good compromise. But if he is hundreds of points clear at the top by October I will be highly suspicious ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in - my tuppence'th:

o assists good, negative points for goals conceded good
o transfers limited
o should run whole season
o needs to be free or we'll lose half the potential players
o N. can take his ball and go home

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

(Is anyone else feeling a homo-erotic frisson in N. and Mark C's simmering on-board tension?)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Agree with Mark C on the first 3 points, but I don't know if there's a free one that fulfills all those criteria.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

(Just remember who JtN lives with and then work out who's feeling an homoerotic frisson...)

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

How difficult would it be to run our OWN league according to Mark C's criteria (which I agree with), with one or two administrators? We could still take individual player points/prices from the BBC/Torygraph in order to ease disputes and work out tables etc. But could make transfers a little trickier.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Being an Exel monkey, I'll look into it, can't promise owt mind.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got the list off the Telegraph, it needs inputting so it may take me a couple of days to get something workable.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

The only drawback with that (apart from a lot of work for chris) is, as Matt mentions, it'd be a nightmare to do transfers and substitutions. Part of the joy of doing fantasy football is being able to sub players at the last minute if they're injured etc and while that's easy to do with a site like the Telegraph's (and presumably the others) it'd be really restrictive to have to do it through a kindly administrator.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently, the only FF you can do that you can copy and paste the score in to a spreadsheet is the Sun one, and I ain't touching that with a bargepole.

There are 676 players in the Torygraph list at the moment, but I got Arsenal done in about 5 minutes. The only pain after setting up the sheet would be inputting scores every wednesday (and having to buy that Tory rag to do it)

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm scared to tell the newly fearsome Dastoor that I've been browbeaten (not really) by work colleagues into joining the Telegraph online one for 2003/4. This does not preclude me from having a stab at a little BBC mini-league with some of youse, mind.

Dicky Knee was amazin' last season when he could be bothered to change his team - storming from last place to title contention in the spring. Ben P from NYC won it (does he ever come in here thesedays?).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

But chris, what about transfers and subs?

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

From time to time, Mike. I intend to defend my title belt.

Benjamin (benjamin), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, Chris is indeed right that inputting the scores is an absolute bugger, and transfers equally could be a problem. Hmmmm.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

i was just thinking about this whilst having a cigarette, all you'd need is a couple of lookup vectors and start and end dates for each player on your squad. it'd be the inputting of each players scores each week that would take the time...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

For all the grief, is it not worth £7 each or whatever to just do the Telegraph one? You only pay it once then you've got the whole season.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve, yes the lookups would be easy, and a different sheet for each team linking into a sheet with the league table, clever formulas could give us all sorts of things such as form teams etc.

/exelmonkey

mind you 7 quid like Bally says......

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm doing the Telegraph league with some mates anyway, so whether I'm willing to pay depends on whether I can enter the same team into two leagues. Anyone know the answer to this one?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I did a couple of leagues last year.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE BBC ONE AS IT IS? You are all FF rockists.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not keen on paying, and I don't want a bonkers super-complex one like the ILE one last season, where all the players cost like £17.36m and the like and there were several spreadsheets of scores and stuff every day. Too fiddly for me. Limited transfers or it will annoy me.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I just signed up my ace squad, Wankton Divided, on realfootball.co.uk. We shall ruuuuuuule.

Neudonym, Tuesday, 22 July 2003 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

AND I've started a league there. Anyone who wants in, go make your team and register it. The league name is ILX Massive; the password is mentalist.

I'll join other leagues too, but this baby should pop. I got Hasselbaink and Huckerby up front, but this will change.

Neudonym, Tuesday, 22 July 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I never imagined so many of you Britishers were NFL fans.

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

YOUR'E a cunt.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Telegraph one has new rules - +5 points for a keeper saving a penalty and -3 for any defender scoring the dreaded own-goal.

But it looks like costing a bob or ten, and doesn't have Bobby Zamora or Geremi in the players list.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

They do update the lists every now and again, but not very speedily.

James Ball (James Ball), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm on for playing
i haven't played in years though so i'll leave it up to the rest of you to decide which one to play in

robin (robin), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Geremi is a proud member of Wankton Divided :-]

Neudonym, Wednesday, 23 July 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I've just added my team to the ILX Massive League - The Edge of Reality.

James Ball (James Ball), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay! But whose team is "Out for Justice"?

Neudonym, Wednesday, 23 July 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i am Out for Justice.

David_X (David_X), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, we're rolling (with like 2 months before the season even begins). where are the rest of youze?

Neudonym, Wednesday, 23 July 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i am Sporting Lesbian

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, but what's your team's name? (Horrible Joke #2456)

Neudonym, Wednesday, 23 July 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Someones gotta be in last place, might as well be me.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah yeah yeah more teams more teams more teams

let's get some women on board too, no? (yeah haha fat chance)

i just traded up big-time, you will all cry when you see my striking team

Neudonym, Wednesday, 23 July 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I am Dynamo DC. I currently have a grand total of 0 players in my squad, which is still I suppose preferable to picking Jon Fortune (-2 points for the whole of last season).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

can we see who other people have bought or what?

my strikeforce isnt so hot (Saha and Keane!) but after splurging on quality defenders and midfielders i had no choice :)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

can't see what anyone else has until season starts, but we could all post our lineups to be ultra-geeks if everyone wants to

("uh, I don't think you're supposed to discuss stuff yet" "oh who cares")

I have Sava and Hasselbaink up front for the same reason...but I think Jimmy Floyd is comin' back strong this year, and Sava will be a big star this year.

Neudonym, Wednesday, 23 July 2003 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

You can see the other teams after the season starts supposedly.
All my defence costs less then Henry. Do they have to be on the field to get the shutout points?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Remind us nearer the time! I don't want to sign players who then get transferred to Spain or something.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck the premiership - let's play Fantasy La Liga.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

10 points for hissy fit, 5 points for out rageous boast about how superior it is to Serie A, 1 point for a dive, 2 points for grabbing a part of your body that asn't touched at all, -5 points for hitting the ground and not being carried off.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

and +200 for being supercute and +500 for having a supercute wife

Neudonym, Wednesday, 23 July 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

and +100 for being able to eat an apple through a tennis racquet

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Filling up your team on realfootball is really difficult - I eventually managed to cram 11 decent players in there but one of them is Marian Parhars who probably won't kick a ball all season.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i was tempted by both Pahars and Tessem - i reckon at least one of them will have a good season.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I noticed documentation is a bit off in regards to the formations allowed.

4-4-2, 4-3-3 and 3-4-3 (as opposed to 5-3-2) are allowed.
And I may be mistaken but I had to pick the only Canadian available. So hopefully Rooney doesn't have THAT great a season.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, I'll name my initial squad: Cudicini, Brown, Parnaby, Upson, Robert, D Thompson, Juninho, Ljungberg, C Cole, Dugarry, Van Nistelrooy.

I 'aint dropping Ruud from my team for nothing.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

More difficult = better. It'd be dull if everyone could load their team with Henry, van Nistelrooy, Kewell etc.

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh... true - I had Henry, Van Nistelrooy AND Zola all upfront for me last season (and still didn't win!)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

so far the lineup of Wankton Divided is: Hasselbaink and Sava up front; Okocha, Wright-Phillips, Juninho, and Edu in midfield; Geremi, Cole, De La Cruz, and Traore in defense; and Howard in goal. PH34R 7H3 W4NK70N.

Neudonym, Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt, that's one of the few drawbacks with the Telegraph one. The prices are low enough that you can pretty much pack your team with star/big club players. I think I started with Henry, RVN and Hasslebaink who I later swapped for Beattie.

Of course if I'm going to be ultra-fantasy league rockist about it, the only proper fantasy league is one where you all cram in a room and have an auction. So each player can only be in one team.

It's loads of fun, but not that practical for the purposes of this forum. Costs a bit more too (about £25 a season).

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha whereas picking my Torygraph one (Cudicini, Bridge, O'Shea, Riise, Finnan, Scholes, Dunn, Solano, Van Nistelrooy, Beattie, Sheringham) was a piece of piss and looks on paper much better.

An auction would be amazing, but impossible to organise.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

except we could do it via AIM Chat

Neudonym, Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

You need to be in the same room so you can stare people down.

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

well, that's why US people like me will have to be confined to cyber-staring. >:--[

chris (chris), Thursday, 24 July 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

We can now view eachothers teams online.
Also, I was hoping to use Jeffers to scoop up on Arsenal's goals scored but aparently they have to play at least some part of the game to get points for things like that.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoever it was who filled his team up with RUBBISH just so they could have Henry, Van Nistelrooy and Pires playing? If that pays off for you I may well adopt a similar tack myself.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

im in - im the soul brother#1 ready to kick all of your asses

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Looks like we won't be doing Real Football this year - the Premier League's lawyers have made them pull the plug:

http://www.realfootball.co.uk/pages/

What a pain in the arse. Now we'll have to argue all over again about what league we're going to do.

Anyone fancy doing the Telegraph?

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 7 August 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm up for whatever dude.

Alex K (Alex K), Thursday, 7 August 2003 11:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Premier League lawyers my ARSE. It was Dastoor and you all know it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 7 August 2003 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll do the Telegraph one but only if I can enter my existing team in a 2nd Super League.

On the other hand, http://fantasy.premierleague.com/ is free, but I have no idea whether its any cop.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 7 August 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

That fantasy.premierleague one looks good in some ways (points for assists, can pick a squad, transfers are limited (but probably not limited enough), you can set up a mini league) and less good in others (I don't like the idea of a subjective 'excellent performance' points award).

I reckon they're using the same basic league programme as the Champions League one that uefa.com have been running for the last few seasons. The points scoring system is extremely similar, and it breaks the season down into discrete 'gameweeks' rather than individual match times (so if there are games played at different times over the weekend you can't change your team between them like you can with some other games).

It also has one feature that I really dislike and one I really like in common with the uefa game. The one I really dislike is 'automatic substitutions' - this takes away all the fun and skill of picking whatever players are fit/in form etc and allows a lazier participant to take their eye off the ball in terms of when their players are playing.

The feature I really like is the cost of a player fluctuating over the course of the season depending on how many managers are buying and selling him. As the season goes on with these fantasy league games people's teams start to resemble each other more and more as managers bring in the players that are in form that year (eg last year the likes of Kewell, Beattie, Zola became very popular). With this system if you want to buy a 'hot' player you have to pay for the privilege, whereas the manager who picked up a generally unfancied player at the start of the season who goes on to do well reaps the benefits.

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 7 August 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

For the Telegraph one, Matt, are you doing the 18-man squad one or the one from the paper?

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 7 August 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

now I have a team
at the premierleague website:
slopshire divided

Haikunym, Thursday, 7 August 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

now there's a league there
again: ILX Massive
come take yr shots, folx

Haikunym, Thursday, 7 August 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

haikunym is god

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 August 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Changing your team in between weekend fixtures is cheating. If Man U play Leicester on Saturday then Arsenal play Wolves the following Monday you shouldn't be able to swap Van Nistelrooy for Henry in anticipation of the suspected drubbing.

Torygraph wise, I am doing the one from the paper, I think, 11 players and that's it. But I don't think ppl want to pay, so I'll happily forget that option.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 7 August 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Good work! I will once again take my place at the bottom of the league as soon as work permits me the time.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 7 August 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Changing your team in between weekend fixtures is cheating. If Man U play Leicester on Saturday then Arsenal play Wolves the following Monday you shouldn't be able to swap Van Nistelrooy for Henry in anticipation of the suspected drubbing.

It's not cheating in a lot of leagues - you can do it in the 18-man Telegraph league and in the official Fantasy League game, and probably in a lot more. I think the main reason they don't do it in this one is because of the way the web site runs rather than because it's perceived as cheating.

I'll do a team for the fantasy.premierleague one when I've got a moment. Look out for The Edge Of Reality.

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 7 August 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in as soon as I get a chance.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 August 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

What Ronan said. I will be Dynamo DC.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 7 August 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Being able to pick your own team colours - tres cool.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 7 August 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

It's just struck me that the reason the Premier League are suddenly closing down websites like Real Football (or charging them an extortionate fee to use 'their' fixture list which amounts to the same thing) is to boost the number of people doing their own game.

So part of me thinks we shouldn't do the fantasy.premierleague one on principle.

But then we probably wouldn't reach agreement again on which league to do, so fuck it.

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 7 August 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

haikunym apparently we need some sort of code to join a private league...

AFC Carsmile has been auto-setup, i shall do some tinkering later :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 7 August 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

try code TheOverstander@opl_108993 for ILX Massive

Haikunym, Thursday, 7 August 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I've picked my squad with £1m left over - if I want to re-jig it, anyone know if I'll lose transfers if it's still pre-season?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 7 August 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, I see - unlimited transfers per season, BUT the prices fluctuate according to performance/demand, and you get deducted points if you make more than one transfer in the week of a game. I'm okay with this.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 7 August 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, Haikynym, is it possible to change the password? I think 'mentalist' would be a tad easier to remember.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 7 August 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm working on the
password thing dear matt dc
more info when I know

Haikunym, Thursday, 7 August 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

http://fantasy.premierleague.com

jel -- (jel), Friday, 8 August 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I doubt that the automatic subs rule is going to have the slightest effect on my season, as my subs bench is so full of bargain basement rubbish they'll never play.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 8 August 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

ignore my last post - im in no need for email now.

james (james), Friday, 8 August 2003 09:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i am CONFUSED. i did auto-select to set my team up and now when i try to buy and sell people it keeps on reverting back to my original line-up. what am i doing wrong? please help me as i *need* to get rid of colin hendrie...

chris (chris), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, if you will pick Villa and Charlton defenders...

Actually, I'd assumed Gareth Barry would be in there as a defender, in which case he'd score big points for all his upfield adventures (see also John Arne Riise).

Bert's team looks like a potential winner.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 15 August 2003 07:00 (twenty-two years ago)

It's very complicated getting to the "pick your team" part, or am I some kind of slow joe? How on earth do you do it?

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 15 August 2003 07:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i have swapped irwin for mellberg as i am afeared of the tonkings WW are going to get...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 15 August 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Rotor Fitzgograd.

no team (real or fantasy) with djimi traore in it is gonna win anything ;)

David_X (David_X), Friday, 15 August 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Reminder - League is called ILX Massive. Password - TheOverstander@opl_108993

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 15 August 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

i must confess i'm more excited about the Premiership Predictions game as it requires less effort...well it would had i not volunteered to run it

stevem (blueski), Friday, 15 August 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't plan on a
whole lot of transfers and shit;
lined 'em up, let's play.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 15 August 2003 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

fifteen teams so far,
all of which could have a shot
quite unlike fulham

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 15 August 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I can' even access my team at the moment to do some last minute tinkering (it keeps timing out) so I'm stuck with what I chose first. Can't remember the whole team, but I know I had Ruud van Nistelrooy and Kenny Miller up front.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 15 August 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah the site is slow
something weird is going on
(last-second panic)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 15 August 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

So I can't list my team. So instead I'll list my team from the fantasy league auction I did the other night. (This is one of those where you sit in the pub for the evening bidding for players, and only one manager can have each player so you don't end up with every person having RVN or Henry up front.) I ended up with:

GK - Wright (EVE)
FB - Cole (ARS)
FB - Bernard (NEW)
CB - Amoruso (BLA)
CB - Alpay (AV)
MID - Giggs (MU)
MID - Duff (CHE)
MID - Euell (CHA)
MID - McCann (AV)
STR - Shearer (NEW)
STR - Gudjohnsen (CHE)

subs -
Senderos (ARS)
Savage (BIR)
Jardel (BOL)
Dugarry (BIR)

which I was reasonably pleased with, but the defence could be stronger. We had £20M to spend, and my bargains of the night were Gudjohnsen at 0.9M, Euell at 0.8M and Jardel on a free.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 15 August 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

that's a damn fine team
i guess people do that here
but not with Football*

*sure, Am. football I guess, but whatever

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 15 August 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I've made a team but I'm having a devil of a time joining ILX Massive.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 15 August 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll invite you in
maybe that will work better
(site might still be fuct)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 15 August 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, my team is AFC Piku, user name Groke - ta!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 15 August 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I join ILX massive anytime or does it have to be before the season starts? All the same I could use an invite.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 15 August 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

you got it ronan
(might as well jump in right now,
I don't know the rules*)

*adminstrator

[chaka khan, that is]

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 15 August 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Haiku I'm in now
No need for an invite then
Ta for offering

Tom (Groke), Friday, 15 August 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I finally got on to tweak my team and decided to take the radical step of dropping Ruud (and Kenny Miller). So my team is now:

Wright

Mellberg
Kenna
Woodgate
Amoruso

Scholes
Kewell
Pires

Henry
Anelka
Angel

subs:
Poole
Nalis
McPhail
McEveley

But I may just have one last tinker. Alpay or Mellberg? Does it really matter?

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 15 August 2003 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i had to rush to get my team, railway terrace, in before the deadline. i think i failed, and will pick up no points for the first week, the camp is already in disarray, ive had the chairman in this morning, face like a beetroot, wanted to know if i could run a bath, i had to mollify him with some buffy dvds.

railway terrace fc:

15: Elliot

Its a morning faced with dressing room unease, low morale and probably a stack of benched players - racing to sort it out before the deadline on a super slow computer and premier league site, i think i may have failed but im pinning my hopes on a succesful performance off of the bench from kleb and ronaldo, plus veron proving his worth.

james, Saturday, 16 August 2003 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I had Todorov up front, but after his injury I have sort of traded him in for Beattie.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 16 August 2003 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

sol campbell's just earned
me NEGATIVE THREE POINTS; his
salad has been tossed.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 16 August 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i was worried i'd lose possible points cos i have Gerrard in my starting XI but he's suspended for first three games - but apparently it automatically replaces any players who don't play with the first sub of your choice, i think.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 16 August 2003 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 17 August 2003 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, midtable isn't my style. I either tear a blaze, or die on my sword, so, at the end of the day... Delroy Facey in. I also got some guy called Shearer in as cover for him, he might do a job.

Hooray I'm 2nd!!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 August 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

My defence was a big pile of cock and a couple of my players didn't play, but all three of my strikers managed to get on the scoresheet.

Damn you Michael Owen and your bullshit penalty.

On the other hand, SEVEN of the players on my Telegraph team all hit the back of the net this weekend. RAH!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 18 August 2003 08:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Not a bad start for The Edge even though I dropped Emerton on Friday evening (and he went on to get 13 points).

But it's a marathon not a sprint. (My all-time favourite football cliche.)

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 18 August 2003 09:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm, my James keeps saying that, but only cos he's 6th!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 August 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

My team's "bert's galacticos" on the premierleague.com. I currently have a healthy - if not barn-storming - 34 points.

How are you guys able to collate the results of all ILX teams? Am I doing something wrong here?

bert (bert), Monday, 18 August 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm assuming you've not joined the ILX Massive superleague... (read upthread, there's a password somewhere).

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 08:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay me, i'm second! come on the dragons!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i've had a lot of injuries :(

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I tried to put Brett Emerton in my team last week and for some reason the cockfarming transfer didn't go through. He would've picked up some big points for me last night :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I've not been fiddling with my side - I should start checking regularly and making transfers and substitutions and stuff. Still, 7/26 isn't a bad start.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

im just useless at this - and fergie (the miserable c) wont play kleb

james (james), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Get your girlfriend to help you!

(Kleberson is injured at the moment, I think)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Kleberson will hopefully start tomorrow night. I think he was slightly behind everyone else because of his work permit stuff and the knock-on effect on his match fitness.

Matt DC - you have to confirm your transfers (it tells you how many points it's costing you) and then check they've gone through properly. I always check the team line-up after I've done a transfer (a) to check it's worked and (b) to check I've got the right players on the bench.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

their combined age: 12.

but you should see the happy
dance they're doing now)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 30 August 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

So I've been top all month but I've just been toppled by a couple of small children - is that supposed to make me feel better, Haikunym?

I think I might have to rope in my two year old for a bit of advice.

(Congratulations to your kids though, I'm not bitter, honest.)

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i sold Cole on Friday! :(

stevem (blueski), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 1 September 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry, there, james b;
harry k is their captain,
so what can I say?

as for their old man,
only james beattie's big head
saved my ass this week

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 1 September 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i swapped Clinton Morrison for Bobby Zamora, Andy Cole for Mark Viduka (ERROR!) and Robbie Keane for Teddy Sheringham. Also swapped Southampton's keepers (but I didn't have Niemi) for Charlton's and Spurs' Doherty for Portsmouth's De Zeeuw. I'm not sure I'll be any better off in the long run.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 1 September 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The only transfer I've made so far is swapping Gareth Southgate for Danny Mills to free up some cash. Although Birmingham defenders appear to be doing very nicely indeed at the moment, it means they're due an absolute tumping soon.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 15 September 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a few I don't know, who are you wondering about Matt?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 September 2003 09:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom (Groke), Monday, 15 September 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

oh tom...

i see my inevitable slide into mid-table has begun, i think i need to make another three or four changes, to be honest, although jaskelinein (sp?) has been playing a blinder since wright went off injured, brian.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 15 September 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I have, possibly somewhat foolishly, decided to put my faith in Birmingham City to grind out a few decent results. So it's out with Jermaine Jenas and Stephane Henchoz and in with Matthew Upson and David Dunn. Now watch them lose the next five games.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 15 September 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

eek, auto-sub confusion, so i guess gilberto (who didn't play on saturday) will be auto-subbed for svennson (m) (who did) after the leicester leeds match tonight, yeah?

also it looks like the site knows the score for tonight:

I'm AC Acton btw.

yes, that looks like £9m well spent on beattie;)

gareth (gareth), Monday, 15 September 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

He was 7m, I think.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 15 September 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Another decent week for The Edge of Reality. Could've been even better if I'd taken Nalis off the bench for last night.

Makes up for being utterly shite in the predictions league. Only 6 points at the weekend and dropping like a stone.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 07:56 (twenty-two years ago)

*feels very sad for him (and anyone else with a leeds player)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

By random chance I am second for week 5

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I am now 13th, Muzzy Izzet is as ever a Fantasy Football wizard.

A quick transfer of Heskey for Angel did no harm either. My only problem is I bet I'll forget to put scholesy back. He's still injured I presume.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin - I cut and pasted from the table and deleted everyone's real names, thinking not everyone would appreciate it... guess I forgot for yours.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

this:

http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/eventhist.mc?id=1089701&event=5

is the current leader, he has made no transfers so far, clearly going for a decent keeper and three big lads up front is the way to get ahead. i think he's going to be a bit stuffed now berger's injured though...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 08:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt did you miss the update on the cut/paste, it made me glum until I got off my arse and checked myself.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm doing really badly, but hopefully Viduka will do well for me tonight
You were saying....?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Luckily I drafted Roque Junior in yesterday, just in time for his scorching debut.

Alex K (Alex K), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

these are the standings at the end of match week 5:
(NB: in week 8 chelsea and newcastle players have two matches, to make up for missing week 3, i'm saying this will happen more and more (probably not for newcastle like) as the season progresses)

it's league position, team name, transfers, points this week, overall position, total points by the way

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

What on earth is going on at Chelsea? They had the best defence in the league last season and now can't seem to keep a clean sheet for love nor money. I'm not dropping Carlo just yet though...

My strikeforce is unstoppable at the moment - shame the rest of the team is letting it down.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I am king of ILX for september so far.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 21 September 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Into 7th, this is surprisingly very consoling on a Saturday night alone with nothing to do.

I knew Lazaridis was a good bet for the odd goal here and there. As for having Ruud as captain, never been so pleased to see a United player get a hat trick.

Izzet? Well he just keeps on giving.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 27 September 2003 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in third - team in Ruud health by the looks of things.

Incidentally, FFL bargain buy appears to be Steve Stone at the moment, who seems to be contributing to each and every Pompey goal in one way or another.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 28 September 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i have just received a full vote of confidence from the board...

(it appears you cannot do well in this game you have either Henry, Van Nistelrooy or Owen)

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Nonsense. You cannot do well in this game WITHOUT Henry, Van Nistelrooy or Owen (or Beattie or Anelka or Mutu at this rate). It's about picking the right players around your star striker.

Actually, Scooby Van Nistelrooy aside, I had a rubbish week going forward, but my Cudicini-Bridge-Upson-Mills defensive FORTRESS came up with the goods.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 28 September 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
Hello there ILX fantasy football types. Googly-eyed, statistically-obsessed Gallic footballing tactician Gerard Houllier here. I trust you are well, and things are better down where you are than they are up in Merseyside. Although obviously the problems I am referring to are because of injuries, not anything to with anything else. Everything up in Liverpool is fine. We are all happy, and certainly I am doing a good job.

But moving on to your fantasy league - there were 11 league matches played this week, meaning that, through optimising your teams you all had upwards of 22 chances to score points (I love statistics, me), but obviously some did better than others. The ones who did better probably had fit squads and were lucky; for example Dom Passantino probably does not have the better team, he merely played very well this week (67 points in just seven days), putting him in a strong position.

Birmingham and Southampton, alongside the more-recognised Manchester United are the darlings of defence so far. Those with Brum defenders certainly reaped the rewards this week. I am also very impressed with Spurs' Freddy Kanoute, but not Anelka. He did not fit in at my team, and he's certainly not playing well or being effective at Manchester City. You see? Once again, I wasn't wrong - again - see. In fact, if you look at Anelka's chances to goals rate (34.57%), he was more effective at Liverpool. Because he was working alongside the very influential Emile Heskey. Who works very hard.

I am sure teams like SteveM's and Ed's will improve, they just need a bit more time and a bit more luck. If all their players had been scoring more goals, they'd be much higher up the league. It certainly isn't their fault.

Certainly, James Harrison's player are not scoring many goals, but that statistic does not show you how hard his strikers work for the team, and how valued they are by the other defenders and midfielders. And I believe that James has also had a lot of injuries to non-key players. Which is disrupting. There is certainly no problem with his team, tactically or otherwise, and I am sure he is still in with a chance of the title.

Adieu.

Gerard Houllier (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you for that update!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
Congratulations to FC Basil who've just knocked me off the top for the first time in months. Hopefully just a temporary aberration.

James Ball (James Ball), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i am finally making enquiries about Thierry Henry. to obtain him i have to sell Gerrard (which i have done and replaced with Mark Rae), Jay-Jay Okocha (hmmmm, WHittingham?) and Juan Angel or Forssell. this will take about 3 weeks to do - and if Henry gets crocked then i'll nab Pires or Lampard. i was 3rd best team in December after a terrible first few months, the ascension continues.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

watch yer back Man Of Oats

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

there should be a Cup mode where two teams are drawn against each other and the one that goes through is the one who gets the most points that week (based on league games).

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i haven't made any transfers & I'm 4th, my bad?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

your good, i think. yes, any of you with your fancy african imports may want to think about whether they're going to be around much and not off playing for samosa in the african cup of nations...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

pinkpanther i recommend you break your transfer duck and offload Michael Bridges right away

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm refusing to release Kanoute - I mean, I don't even know where Samosa is.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm, is that so. I might get the boy on the case this evening! *grins* The FC Basil owner is very competitive you know. Everytime I see him he tells me both of our positions in the league!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

FC Basil is probably loaded with Villa and Pompey players - James, you have a game in hand!

I'm grateful for my friend Gerard's contribution to this thread, by the way. Maybe I should ask Arsene or Claudio to comment after this week's potential bonanza?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm, definitely worth it matt!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I just put Stephane Dalmat in my team! I feel good for putting my faith in Spurs player who isn't Kanoute.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, it's getting just like the real league, two teams way out ahead, everyone else fighting for european football next year...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

James Ball's Ossie Formation appears to be working - is it too late in the season for any of us to catch up, I wonder?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i've had a real headache today. do i play Okocha or Wright-Phillips? Kenna or Stubbs? Rae is a must, but at the expense of Clark?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesse Fahnestock = Wolves (ie miles adrift)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i am disgusted that i dropped a place. terrible midfield display. Robbie Keane scoring proved costly.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Should I drop Saha? It could go either way. Big point to prove or massive hissy fit?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Henry will score a hat-trick tomorrow

stevem (blueski), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I am back in form, I actually paid attention to this for the first time in ages and got rid of Alpay! How disorganised I was.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 10 January 2004 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

*checks Ronan's team to make sure he didn't replace him with Rio Ferdinand*

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 10 January 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Grr... I've lost the momentum of the last few weeks. Fucking Danny Mills. Fucking Arsenal.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 10 January 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn you Man U. 0-0 my ass. I don't know why I have Vieira, he's never going to score any goals.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 11 January 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

may be time to drop the leicester midfield.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 11 January 2004 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

The top two just broke the 1,000 point barrier. And The Edge of Reality has been knocked from the top spot once again.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 12 January 2004 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

It's bloody close though - only a point or two. I'll be back.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

actually you are back on top, henry had 3 points removed because of an assist that never was

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Blimey. Contentious.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Damnit!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Pls can someone post an updated table?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

[table with real names deleted: see below post for link]

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay 3rd! (btw is everyone happy about their names getting posted???!!!)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Ack, good point. Link here then. I'll get the above table nuked.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

to buy Henry this week or next week, that is the question

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

actually you are back on top, henry had 3 points removed because of an assist that never was

That might be true but I've got Henry too. More to the point, Kevin Davies had his 2nd assist given.

Still, nice to be back there, if only until the weekend.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn, this is the first time I've visited the site in ages, and I'm in the relegation struggle! Possibly paying some attention to injuries, making transfers etc., might have helped some.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
Hello. Internationally acclaimed myopic Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger here. Looking at your Fantasy League table, I must say that I am surprised to see that Arsenal are not top of the table. No matter. For despite not entering the competition, I think that people see us as the real winners of the league, for, if we had been part of ILX Massive, I think we would have played the better football. We are the real champions.

But, moving on, it is clear that, aside from the champions Arsenal, the battle for the top of the table has heated up further with David Malthouse overtaking James Ball’s The Edge of Reality at the top. Even if David did not play the better FFL football, and James was disgracefully denied a Robert Pires assist. It is wrong that the best team in the league is so constantly hindered by poor decisions. It is mystifying why the authorities decide that they must pick on these teams, as I can't say that they have done anything wrong. Although the assist in question, I did not see. Although clearly, it was the wrong decision.

Everyone thinks that they have the prettiest Fantasy League team though, don't they? And certainly, I am not going to lose my cool about it, as I am confident that the best team will win. Perhaps James's team will manage to go through the season unbeaten now. They are that good.. although if they don't, bear in mind that I didn't actually say that...

Sadly, Chris Cabbage like his beloved Liverpool, led by the not-as-great-as-me Frenchman Gerard Houllier, is dropping from a European challenging position towards midtable mediocrity. But it is not his fault. I can not criticise anyone, apart from the league organisers, the decisions makers, and perhaps all the other teams.

I am impressed with the defensive canny of Birmingham, despite them having the not-particularly good Matthew Upson in them (I sold him, you know), and Southampton are another hardworking team defensively.

In attack, I am very impressed with the Tottenham triumverate of Robbie Keane, Fredi Kanoute and Jermaine Defoe. But they do not play the better football, and scoring lots of goals is a bigger thing for them than it is for us. But they are still a big club.

I also like the best player in the world, Thierry Henry, the Frenchmen Pires and Malbranque, and amusingly, even Edu is doing well.

I laugh to hear that Paul Scholes, of the evil cheating, disgraceful Manchester United will be banned for a key part of the season. What will they do now? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.

Until next time, remember; do not see it.

x Arsene

Arsene (Matt DC), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Any chance of posting the current table? (without posting ppl's adresses of course!)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Here, Sarah

You can consider yourself well and truly Chelsea.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

3rd ha & I haven't even made any transfers yet!! Cheers petal!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

damn you!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Your team is much, much, much better than PP's on paper. I don't understand this game.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Except playing Kolo Toure in midfield when he is playing as a defender for the Arse is a bit silly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

it is nice to see Railway Terrace continuing their push for a UEFA place having turned their luck around late last year. the midtable fooferah continues unabaited with Fitzgograd, Piku, Acton, Kunting Kunts and rank outsiders Mannionited all bartering for that vital Intertoto place

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

yes the Toure situation is a bit baffling, he seems to drift onto the flank a lot too, but he did score the other week (before i bought him for the second time)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

i sold Malbranque and bought Pires last week too - but look which one scored on Saturday...

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

there has been a steady rise from the railwaymen this year, now edging into the top 10. i think 3rd is not beyond me now, and i wouldnt have said that in november

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Awww my bad?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i wouldn't mind Sarah but you've had Michael Fucking Bridges up front all season!!!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

*sniggers*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

There's been about 10 points between myself and David M for over a month now. Squeaky bum time.

James Ball (James Ball), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

FC Basil's owner tells me where I am in the league each time I see him!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Since the eye troubles, I've not felt inclined to check this in ages. I think my playing most of the season with a few injured players in the team all the time hasn't helped me. There is a strikingly small spread of points, though, covering almost all of the teams.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i just checked back on my Gameweek history - i lost 20 points one early week thru transfers alone! then i went and read the rules...

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

AFC feckless doing pretty well despite entering the tournament 5 weeks late. Mannionted will be overhauled before season's end.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

giggs out, gerrard in, but do I risk Saha as captain this week?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

5 weeks late has given you an advantage in some way - i wouldn't have picked Robbie Keane and Andy Cole in my original line-up by that point put it that way

you have a stronger team than mine so overtaking is possible but as long as i beat Ewing (he has SENDEROS in his first XI!!!!) i don't mind

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

when oh when is Ruud gonna score a hat-trick??

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope never as I have bet the farm on Saha over Henri for another week.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Well you'll be overjoyed to know he has a "you will not play against Fulham this season" clause in his contract then, won't you?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

what a convenient time for this thread to be revived

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

curse you MDC, saha is playing and has just scored.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 28 February 2004 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm gutted, i had Henry as my captain until Friday morning

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 28 February 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

well, ed, it is at this stage of the season that the mind games start

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 28 February 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

s'ok, should still get him as a sub

Ed (dali), Saturday, 28 February 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

At the weekend Ruud Van Nistelrooy rather impressively got himself booked without even being on the pitch. Anyone know if this counts as minus points?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

well he's scored 0 so far, so possibly

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought he came on for forlan, or did i imagine that?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/dreamteam.mc?event=33

that is the best team for last week, is it any wonder everyone was scrabbling about to get over 20 points (no henry having a lot to do with it it appears)?

as the season finishes it appears the chicken lips are DOWN, AC Milan Kundera are fighting for their life, but are the south bronx reds too good to go down? the title may be pretty much a two horse race, but it's not over yet, and the fight for champions league and uefa places is still, quite literally, in the mixer...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 16 April 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The title's not a two horse race any more - David's started to pull clear in the last few weeks and I'm not going to catch him now.

I think the point I realised it was over was when Michael bloody Duberry scored for him the other week. When even your shite players are getting points you know you're on a roll.

And I've probably been doing too much tinkering for my own good lately.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 16 April 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i did ok cos of Kiely and Juninho, and Hitzlsperger - the attack line of Hasselbaink, Forssell and Saha was complete shit tho

if i can finish in the top 10 i will be very happy

Ewing got 81 points last week - amusingly he has Senderos and Li Tie in the starting XI with Ronalo and Gerrard on the bench

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm suffering a horrific fall from grace after being in the Top 10 virtually all season. IR Charlton Athletic.

Wholesale changes this weekend, I think.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

but as senderos and li tie hrdly ever play i imagine R and G get subbed in with surprising regularity...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

indeed

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Gareth, Chris B and I battle it out for accolade of changey meddling alterations conquistador

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

17th?!! How the fuck did that happen?

Apart from persisting with Van Nistelrooy and Keane up front, and still playing Stephane Dalmat, that is. I really should pay attention more often.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

je suis le Tinkerman

chris (chris), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

12 Mannionited 37 37 40,854 1,415

17 Dynamo DC 18 13 48,002 1,392

18 Rotor Fitzgograd 5 26 50,435 1,384

very very tight in the Intertoto department

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I need to pay more attention again, the fans are unhappy but it's only the away form that let us down. No team relished a trip to deepest Fitzgograd.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm worried Ruud will finally score a hat-trick after i finally gave up on him a few weeks back

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just lost 12 points through a prolonged transfer binge. But I am relying on Meaty Mark Viduka to catapult me to top 10 glory once more.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I am strangely pleased that there are two girls in the top five..

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not that strange considering one of them is you.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 April 2004 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

*high fives Vicky*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 16 April 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

YOU STILL HAVE MICHAEL BRIDGES IN YOUR FIRST XI, OMG THAT MAKES US ALL LOOK SO MUCH WORSE

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 April 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I fucked up last weekend by being away and not having Henry as captain for his hatrick. I'm still not doing bad for starating 65 weeks late though.

Ed (dali), Friday, 16 April 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

you'll have to speak up Ed

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 April 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

how do you start 65 weeks late when there's only 38 weeks in total?

chris (chris), Friday, 16 April 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember my login in password! Who'da thunk it?!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 16 April 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

perhaps he meant to type 5 weeks late, and hit the 6 at the same time?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 16 April 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

this would be the case, atz work we have these crazy tiny keyboards which make it very hard not to type two keys at once.

Ed (dali), Friday, 16 April 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i phoned Sherlock, and he agreed, his presence is no longer required on the thread

gareth (gareth), Friday, 16 April 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I fucked up last weekend by being away and not having Henry as captain for his hatrick

I've just committed the schoolboy error of not picking Henry as captain TWO WEEKS RUNNING. First week because he was supposed to be injured, and second week because United are playing two games this 'matchday' so I've picked Saha instead.

Ah well, he's only scored SEVEN GOALS in those two games. And I bet Saha doesn't start both games for United.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 16 April 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, this really is taking the piss

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 April 2004 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i made the same error. it feels like 21 points lost, not 21 gained. didnt make saha captain though, made scholes capt. can scholes get 21 points in 2 games? yes. will he? no.

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 17 April 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Well it looks like this one is going to go down to the last game of the season. Only twenty points in it now and James's team is outscoring me everyweek at the moment. Don't know if I should transfer out van Nistelrooy. He doesn't aeem to be getting a game at all at the moment but I haven't heard anything about an injury though, knowing my luck the moment I transfer him he will get a hat trick.

The Champions league places are all pretty much sorted but the 3rd/4th place battle is going to be close. As is the competition for the UEFA cup positions any one from four could realistically do it.

Davel (Davel), Monday, 26 April 2004 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I finally had a pretty good week - really need to haul myself back up to top-half respectability.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 26 April 2004 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Ruud has had an injury - don't know if he's expected back soon or not.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 26 April 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I still don't think I'm going to catch you though, Dave.

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 26 April 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
tottenham win something this season!

http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/stats.mc?stat=bestfave
(although southampton could still sneak it...)

the number of "registered" supporters of each team makes interesting reading too...

there really are more stats than you can shake a stick at on the site, i mean look at this:

http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/stats.mc?stat=bestcountries

i don't know if they've excluded the UK or if our average is just below the top 50, probably the latter due to a zillion ppl signing up at the start of the year and then forgetting about it, although Sarah has done alright by this method ;)

in terms of our league, it's not over 'til the fat commentator makes a racist remark, all it'll take is a robbie savage hattrick and James can win:

My disastrous perforemance over the second half of the season would appear to buck that particular trend.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

can i make the joke about the hastalavistas not winning anything with kids now (that i am safely out pointing them)?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i want that 11th spot but it's too late now i fear

stevem (blueski), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Poxy 4th!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

poxy????

yr still in the champions league innit...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 14 May 2004 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah but who wants to be like Liverpool?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 14 May 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Leeds?

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

you won't get that finger back (arf)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 14 May 2004 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

heh!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 14 May 2004 09:24 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmmmmm

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 09:24 (twenty-one years ago)

are we going to allow some of us to salvage our pride with a Euro 2004 one then?

They're always more enjoyable cos you watch more matches when you're half cut and can scream if your players score.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 May 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It's closer than I thought it'd be a few weeks ago. Seeing as there's bugger all to be decided in the real league (no last day relegation battles etc) it should at least make Saturday afternoon interesting.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 14 May 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

23rd (I am the Gasheads of course) is very poor, but I've done nothing to keep a fit team or make transfers all season (partly due to eye problems for ages, but then apathy set in), and I note my overall position still isn't so terrible, so that's a small consolation.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 14 May 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I've taken a bit of a gamble and made some transfers this morning even though it's costed me points. I've got 22 points to make up, but if Villa keep a clean sheet against United and Bolton score a hatful then I might have a chance.

James Ball (James Ball), Saturday, 15 May 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, well that didn't exactly work.

Congratulations Dave - well played sir.

James Ball (James Ball), Saturday, 15 May 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like to thank the chairman, all the players and most importantly the fans for sticking by Dynamo DC in what has been a difficult transitional season. Thankfully by consolidating in the Premiership we should be able to build on the wonderful achievements of all those around us and really mount a challenge for next season. I would also like to say that I think Thierry Henry is a twunt.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 15 May 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

For a small eastern club, Rotor Fitzgograd have performed adequately.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 May 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

3rd. Good performance, got us into Europe, should be a marketing boom for the club.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 15 May 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Seeing as there's bugger all to be decided in the real league (no last day relegation battles etc)

Title and promotion issues a-go-go in Scotland, mate - or is that not a real league? (Boo and hiss to ICTFC, bastards, hope they go bust next season)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 15 May 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe, but the Scottish Prem's hardly been a nail-biter, has it?

Well, no. But I was talking about the SFL which has had pretty much everything down to the wire today except First Division relegation. (xpost)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 15 May 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Top ten most of the season followed by abysmal plummet down the table. The fans will be baying for my blood. I am Tottenham Hotspur.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 15 May 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt, I don't think that's the final updated table, I think that's pre kick off. I know I've not caught Dave though as we got virtually the same score this week.

James Ball (James Ball), Saturday, 15 May 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I was ahead of Matt in the pre kick off one.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 May 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)
