I'm far too overcome with emotion *sobs uncontrollably* to think of any last wishes.

C J (C J), Friday, 25 July 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate you all.

(I would quote Pia Zadora from the Lonely Lady, when she won the oscar, but I don't want to steal Ally's thunder.)

doom-e, Friday, 25 July 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 25 July 2003 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I will feel very silly if this turns out not to be the case.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 25 July 2003 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry Sarah - word came through from the lizard home cluster this morning.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

This is a bit like when in primary school you go up to other kids in the playground and tell them that the police have just come to the school and said their parents are both dead.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Er...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt it's hardly my fault that Earth has been declared unsuitable for domination!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Or that his parents are dead.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

barney s (mark s), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes this thread is a joke, but it does mask a serious problem as refered to on the ilx Admin thread that some of us are badgering away at solving. This is not the last thread - but some time in the next three months there may well be a last thread, and we are desperately trying to make sure that there is at least a life raft we can jump to.

We have found another system and site who would be willing to help us out but they have said we can only have a maximum of 100 posters at any one time. There are ways and means around this (time shifting etc etc - and the 100 seems a bit arbitrary) but can people express interest if they would be interested in being included in this 100.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I kill you with guns, ok?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

''There are ways and means around this (time shifting etc etc - and the 100 seems a bit arbitrary) but can people express interest if they would be interested in being included in this 100.''

that would be a negative. I think there are abt 100 regular posters but plenty of lurkers and really good contributors who never make it onto the top 50. not a good idea.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i think i just shit my pants.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

As I said its just something we are considering at the moment. The problem with open access is thatits very easy to hack into the server - which mans that 90% of it is used to host all sorts ofnon-ilx stuff (hidden in the system as "the invisible ilx pages" - three quarters we think are probably adjuncts or mirror porn sites. You can see why Adrew isn't keen on that.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

How does that work, then? Surely there's some way to stop it?

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Some of the finest computer minds of our generation have been on it for the last couple of months. They thought it would be peasy - but the finer minds of our generation all work for porn sites it would appear.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

and can you blame 'em? its where the money is!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

There are ways and means around this (time shifting etc etc - and the 100 seems a bit arbitrary) but can people express interest if they would be interested in being included in this 100.

Yeah, this sounds like a great idea. Will the 100 coolest posters please step forward?

bnw (bnw), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(sobs.)

J (Jay), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Let me know if we plan to adopt the 100 posters plan for real, so I can kill myself.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

The most equitable way to decide is a Top 100 Posters thread.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

The most equitable way to decide is a Top 100 Posters thread.

I totally disagree but I don't even want to get into that discussion. I mean if you want to reform your own smaller, hand picked message board, have at it. Just spare us the public spectacle of people begging for acceptance.

bnw (bnw), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

NB can I remind people that Pete is i) not a moderator or board admin ii) Pete. Thanks.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Taking this thread with a grain of salt vs taking this thread with a salt lick that would choke a Titan FITE

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow. This is like Deep Impact.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

(Leave it to Tom to equate chart placement with value.)

bnw (bnw), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow for a bunch of people who had a big fucking fit over like 4 people being pally, you're all certainly being dicky this morning.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh i don't know what's got into Pete but whatever it was it's clearly the wrong size

stevem (blueski), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ESCHEW WINKY EMOTICONS PPL!! *comforts small crying children, separates battling dogs etc*

mark s (mark s), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

"This is NOT only the last thread of this tour.. this is the LAST THREAD I'LL EVER PLAY"

*shock, beer, and horror*

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I for one welcome our new 12ft reptilian overlords etc.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll take the beer. Pete's beauty of talking smack is just that. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ESCHEW WINKY EMOTICONS PPL!!

And everyone MOCKS me for my use of them! At last I have positive proof of their virtue.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think winky emoticons would be helpful in this circumstance. Clearly ILX wasn't bloody closing, reread my last post for the objection at large here. This is the most metatastical day ever for no further purpose, point or humor besides being meta, wtf?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

"well Barbie, we're just getting started..."

stevem (blueski), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you ever heard the original Dutch or whatever version of Barbie Girl? JESUS CHRIST is it aces.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Pete having a Graham moment?

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned is always looking for validation for his winky.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got images of us all suddenly turning off our PC's and going outside into a sunny, bird-singing scene (ala Simpsons)

But its raining now so its kinda ruined.

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Poor Graham.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Can someone explain all this stuff? I really am confused, what has been going on today??

jel -- (jel), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

The Real Actual Explanation, for Jel:

1. Gareth says "let's close ILX" on the Admin thread.
2. Tim says yes.
3. Some banter ensues.
4. Alan starts "Last thread ever" thread.
5. People start to worry, "ILX To Close?" thread is started, people told ILX is not to close at the same time as jokes about it closing continue.
6. Pete tells enormous lie about ILX having to move to a new site and only 100 posters being allowed to rejoin. Uproar follows.

MEANWHILE the other strand of mentalism was as follows:

1. Pete follows up a Julio comment by inventing a mythical pre-ILX board.
2. Me, Tim, Gareth play along and invent details of mythical board including evil troll 'Ricardo' who drove us all away.
3. 'Ricardo' appears.
4. Pete asks for Ricardo to be banned, others still play along until Ricardo announces he's off on the Moderator IV thread.

The intersection of these may well have been a little confusing. Sorry.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom is lying!

J (Jay), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks Tom!

ILX would be so empty without me.

shady jel -- (jel), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

5. ally is too star in a broadway version of pia zadora's movie smash 'the lonely lady' with options for the part of helen lawson in valley of the dolls.

doom-e, Friday, 25 July 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Stop being obsessed with me!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

hahahaha! sorry. you make me laugh, ally. no offence. i just think you should have been born a bitchy star from the sixties. perhaps, joan crawford.

doom-e, Friday, 25 July 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Obviously this is true but you don't need to rub my face in the fact that I am not!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, wtf???

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

hell if pia zadora can make the lonely lady, i think you can hook up a rich guy, forgot all the indie boys and music writers and just get him to produce a movie for you.

i read 'valley of the dolls' in italy and keep on thinking ally, those are the parts you were born to play.

doom-e, Friday, 25 July 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, i'm afriad i have to leave ilx now. remember, i love each and every one of you:)

gareth (gareth), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth = Doomie with love.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Doomie = Gareth with hate.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth, I will always love you, though posting strange unflattering pictures of Tom and I aren't really helping me love you MORE per se.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Walthmanstow = Clerkenwell.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX has jumped the shark.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i have to leave ilx now. just remember i hate you all, o.k.?

doom-e, Friday, 25 July 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

(And this all happens to come on the heels of all the "who's code is it?" wars. I think you Brits need to take another one of your self-imposed ILx breaks and chill.)

uproar (bnw), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i blame the sunburn

stevem (blueski), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i just thought - today i had no bosses in and thought i would happily spend the day on ile, what a day to pick, i am most grateful to you all - its been......memorable

james (james), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, why did Gareth say goodbye? And do I need to read that huge admin thread to find out?

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Byron is like our version of Akira.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Doomie, who's going to talk about you if you go?

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth is even more subversive than the Gareth head

stevem (blueski), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, he's just drunk again, ignore him.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

drunk at work? punk rock!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

"Work"

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I would say something re: how crushed I would be if ILx were to close but apparently I'd be about three hours late.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 25 July 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Doesn't make your feelings any less real.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i think Pete may be crushed soon.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I certainly feel my chances of winning Trig Brother III have been dramatically reduced.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i wanted to say fremme neppa venette as my farewell sentence, but fortunately enough i kept reading this thread until the end.

joan vich (joan vich), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Dear ile, I am retiring the phrase "hip hip hooray for you, on your magical birthing day", just thought I'd let you know. I guess it's lost it's appeal for me to post on every single birthday thread. I guess it's time for new directions.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 25 July 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I will miss it Jel. :(

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 25 July 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I will have an angry phase now.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 25 July 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

So some part of ILX did die here today :(

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice! I just saw the "JEL BAR" car again!!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

but you know, not that angry :)

jel -- (jel), Friday, 25 July 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I need to post less anyway, I can't believe how seriously I took all the ILX to close business. I've been feeling kind of low, and annoyed at myself about coming home from work, and not really reading any threads and just posting nonsense and flooding AIM chats with my irrelevance's. So, I will calm things down a bit, and see some of you at Trig Bro next week.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 25 July 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

jel, you can just go "hip hip hooray for you, on your magical birthing day, fucko," and satisfy both tradition and anger. That way everyone's happy!

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 25 July 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I always preferred the 'Hi! We're Poison" etc. wishes anyway. You're not retiring those are you?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 25 July 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I came back from a week of no internet access (a dispute with my provider) and the first thread I opened up was this. Dammit, will you all stop scaring me like that! :-)

IN CASE this is it, well.. garsh... it's been five years here. Honestly, this site has changed my life, as it allowed me to meet so many people from afar during my travels. Thanks to all of you, and thank you to COLLEGE RADIO! George W. Bush doesn't care about ILXORs.

In case the site moves elsewhere and keeps on...

The legend of Ricardo may live on, but the real threat is Ricardão

If ilx should close and reopen elsewhere under a new guise, I'd be very grateful if someone could drop me a line to my hotmail address below to let me know where the new home is. I'm not always around all that often and fall out of the loop sometimes - but I really would be sad to lose touch with this altogether.

Thanks. :)

I heard a rumour that Ricardo was Nicole all along AND that some people knew that but that the whole thing was hushed up.

TELL THE TRUTH.

There were rumours... he was into FIELD HOCKEY PLAYERS, but you know, they were so hush hush... they were so QUIET about it. And then the next thing you know...

Jimmy Mod: THE HANDLESS ORGANIST (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

No, I didn't mean anything! I was just talking to Ken!

He said, like "don't anybody touch this, this my stuff" and I just said "YOU FUCKING DIE" - like I was just finishing his part for him.

Know what I mean?

I hope the last words ever posted on ILX are "LiveJournal SuXoR".
