My birthday preliminaries have included an prolonged hobble around a deserted New Covent Garden flower market in Vauxhall in the blazing early-evening bastard-sun, gimpishly looking for the entrance to DHL's depot to pick up an Amazon package that I'm not allowed to open until the big day. It's was big...but light.

Tomorrow I'll be slightly perversely attending birthday parties for people other than myself. That's a sort of delegation.

A pretty good birthday - painted a floor, bought a few records, had a pint in Covent Garden and have just eaten my body weight in Nepalese food. Weather was perfect, 70F and overcast as I walked down Gipsy Hill at lunchtime. Came home to find Pam had made me a lampshade from '50s/'60s Ektachrome slides - it's beautiful.

Now I'm watching Speed 2: Cruise Control (3.3/10 on imdb), working my way through a hooj bottle of Greenwich Meantime India Pale Ale (from WC final night - thanks, Chris & Vicky!) to complement the hariyo machha - it doesn't get any better than this.

Thank you all! I had a pig of a day at work, heard "21 again, eh?!" a few too many times, but the kids have been in bed since 7:45pm (not unprecedented but very, very rare recently), we had Thai takeaway and Chris came round with a big bottle of Le Geante. 7.4%. Love...ly.
