RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.imdb.com/Title?0356634 !

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

daniel day lewis needs to play Lyman

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Shit! I almost forgot about Lyman... was that a moustache or a really funky top lip he had?

I think it would be more interesting if written by Joel Coen, not Joel Cohen...

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Bill Murray VOICES the cat??!! It's a live action movie!

weatheringdaleson (weatheringdaleson), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Did they wake up one day and carry on without realising Lyman was no longer there or something?

Barima (Barima), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's one of those live-action movies with cartoons in them. I can't imagine they'd have Bill Murray prancing around in a Garfield suit.
I'm expecting a lot of Smashmouth on the soundtrack, for some reason.

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

what about nermil or whatever the grey kitten's name was.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

CGI Garfield?

And I don't know what happened Lyman... I think he joined a Bolivian terrorist group in the mid-80's, and left Odie behind.

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

who will play Pooky? ah, Keanu of course

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

IF ONLY it had roger rabbit-style integration. it'll be awfully computer animated.

I think Chromium_5 on the imdb messageboard types for us all when he types 'It's about time they made this movie!'

and, OMG:

meg ryan's bro from the wonderful 'kate & leopold' is jon! and grace from the 'will & grace' is the voice of arlene! and ned ryerson from 'groundhog day' is someone else!!

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Bizmarkie as Irma, the diner waitress

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

janeane garofalo as the Vet

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

*I think it's one of those live-action movies with cartoons in them.
>>>Then it'll be like Rocky & Bullwinkle which bit hairy boars ass?

*I can't imagine they'd have Bill Murray prancing around in a Garfield suit.
>>>I would pay good money etc. etc.

weatheringdaleson (weatheringdaleson), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, Liz the vet... it's like a childhood flashback
Yeah, remember when there was actually other characters besides Jon and Garfield, and Jon wasn't some scary manic-depressive shut-in?

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 00:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i remember that. back when jim davis bothered writing anything witty

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

They could not have picked a better Jon.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah... now it's like slow death with cartoon faces. I kinda wished he'd retired sooner than Bill Waterson, Gary Larson or Berkley Breathed did.

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

what about nermil?

nermil=the cousin Oliver of Garfield.

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:08 (twenty-two years ago)

jim davis is the status quo of cartoonists

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I was always scared that Nermil was supposed to be a boy...

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I think he was.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I know... quite an odd boy... then I saw the cartoon and believed that he was a boy even less.

I think my favorite line from the cartoon was "People who dress like that should be dragged out into the street and shot." Is it me, or is that a little bit of a strange line to hear in a children's show? Well, at least a children's show in the 80''s. Actually in retrospect it was probably too fitting of a line for the 80's

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Nermal you fooz!

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 02:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it would be more interesting if written by Joel Coen, not Joel Cohen...

I think Cohen writes for The Simpsons.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 03:21 (twenty-two years ago)

old simpsons or new simpsons?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 03:21 (twenty-two years ago)

New.

Also, Lyman: Gay or not?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 03:22 (twenty-two years ago)

gay, obv.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 03:25 (twenty-two years ago)

dude loved dick fo sho

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 03:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Who would play him?

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 03:25 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, i think that was a simultaneous outing for lyman!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 03:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah... now it's like slow death with cartoon faces. I kinda wished he'd retired sooner than Bill Waterson, Gary Larson or Berkley Breathed did.

Actually, he did - since 1986 or thereabouts Garfield has been written and drawn by a whole bunch of different people, but it still has "by Jim Davis" on it.

Chriddof (Chriddof), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

There is a clause in his contract that says that peoplr have to draw Garfield in Jim Davis's house
a) For "quality" control
b) So it was drawn by (as in nearby) to him.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I've sworn off of Garfield, but the week of his birfday where the Garfield from like '78 crossed over was surprisingly ginchy.

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

the garfield saturday morning cartoon from the 80s was really great. (or the garfield segments were, anyway: u.s. acres was only watchable when it wasn't trying to cram a highly unconvincing moral lesson down the throats of 10 million severely bored kids like me) i'm told the garfield comic strip is bad - i haven't paid much attention to it since i was like 9 but it couldn't be any stupider than cathy.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, he did - since 1986 or thereabouts Garfield has been written and drawn by a whole bunch of different people, but it still has "by Jim Davis" on it.

-- Chriddof (hullo...), August 26th, 2003.

Life now makes sense... and that makes me think Jim Davis is a whore for handing his creation over to a bunch of unfunny rank amateurs in exchange for a ton of dough. But that's nothing new, I guess.

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 20 December 2003 04:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Daver, let's look at what you just wrote and then back away slowly while making calming gestures with our hands and saying, "There, there..."

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 20 December 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

eek. I wasn't expecting much but man, I don't even like the way he's animated. Needs to be fatter, for one. And I'd say that Odie's all wrong, but come to think of it, I can't think of how they could do a live-action Odie that would be faithful to the comic without being completely bizarre.

noone has mentioned the really weird thing about Bill Murray voicing Garfield: the voice of Garfield in the 80's cartoon specials and series was the late Lorenzo Music, who also voiced Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters: The Animated Series! creepy, huh?

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 20 December 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

that's so horrible. so horrible.

also garfield seems a little "animated" (in the other sense of the word) for a fat lazy cat who obsesses over lasagna and how much he hates mondays all the time.

s1utsky (slutsky), Saturday, 20 December 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Garfield=Music=Venkman=Murray=Garfield=Spooky. That's the sound of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon collapsing on itself. Murray=two degrees from himself.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I just realized last night that they timed the release of this movie to coincide with GARFIELD'S BIRTHDAY (b: 6/19/78)!!!

theres nothing wrong with that. i recently re-read all my garfield books.

chaki_burger (chaki), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Jocelyn, you were supposed to stick it on the back of your car, to make it look like Garfield was caught in your trunk. Not on your windshield like you'd viciously mowed him down.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

there are window garfields too Huck, how can you have missed them?

they seem to still be ubiquitous. when were they introduced? will they ever go away? I imagine people will still have them in their hovercrafts 100 years from now.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

if they had gone ahead and made this film R rated I can imagine it being the funniest thing ever

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

There are lots of things in my life I can't remember, but I can still remember the song on the Garfield Christmas special. Why are the gods so cruel to me?

Jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i just remembered the garfield episode where he wakes up and finds himself in a transformers-style cartoon with lasers and giant robots, that was fucking awesome!

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I also remember the song from some Garfield tv special, maybe Halloween? It involved island natives singing about a sports car, and they were chanting "Chroooome...chroooommee...a wop bop a lula, chroooommme."

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

How does the Xmas Special song go?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's have a good ol' fashioned Christmas, down on the Farm
A little overeating never did up any harm
Let's gather round the table have a turkey or two,
A good ol' fashioned Christmas. Yodel odel ay hee hooo!

It'll never happen. Watterson is adamant against licensing the strip in any way and seems to be content as a recluse these days.

Jocelyn, we love you for it :)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Keyboards should be pressure-sensitive so that the harder you hit the keys, the bigger the letters are.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

But when I typed NO. up there, I was hitting the keyboard really hard to emphasize what a terrible, terrible idea that was, and no one knew but me. It was important!

Why can't people just let perfect things stay perfect?

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Though that doesn't really relate to Garfield.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

DYSFUNCTONAL FAMILY CIRCUS: THE MOVIE

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

a C+H movie would probably be pretty lame anyway - who wants to hear what calvin's voice would sound like? for that matter, they'd have trouble finding a 6-year-old who could pronounce all the words in calvin's vocabulary.
