Tad (llamasfur), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Because I had a nice birthday and am feeling pretty ok.

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i was coming home from work tonight (i know, it's labor day ... the law never rests!), got a seat on the PATH and pulled a bunch of lawyer wanted ads out of my bag to read on the way home. a young lady looked at me, and then asked me "are you a lawyer?" i said yes, and that i was looking for work. turns out that she is a secretary at one of the NYC firms that i would KILL to work for -- it's a T&E/Tax/ERISA boutique, one of the partners there wrote one of the leading treatises on new york estate administration -- but i hadn't worked up the balls to send a resume to. she said that they might have openings, told me that i should send in my resume and specifically to whom i should send it -- that i could use her name, and gave me some good inside dope on the firm (that it was a nice place to work for, not stuck up AT ALL despite its great reputation).

that, and she was really cute!

Tad (llamasfur), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

this will be happy if i end up getting a job there ... cross yer fingers and light a novena candle or two for me, i could use a lucky break right now!

Tad (llamasfur), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

hurrah tad! that's awesome!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 01:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Excellent, Tad! Good luck.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 01:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I am happy now because I just got some of the 1991 synth pop cds I ordered from Amazon (used and really cheap at about $3 with $2 shipping, if I remember correctly) and I'm very happy with them: OMD - Sugar Tax, Mecano - Aidalai

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

good luck tad! happy belated birthday, slutsky!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Because I'm finally warm and dry after being wet and cold at Flushing Meadows all day.

JesseFox (JesseFox), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

*crosses fingers for Tad*
I am happy for no apparent reason. I had a lovely evening last night. A friend popped round after work for a cuppa & a gossip. She seems very happy with her new b/f which is great as she deserves it. Then I got to spend the rest of the evening with my boy. We cooked dinner & then watched Jack & Sarah. It made me cry loads even though I have seen it numerous times. Had lots of cuddles as a result, which is always nice!
Also I am going out for pizza tonight, mmmm & I am going to see the Black Keys on Thursday! yay, life is grand.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Because I cleaned my new flat to make it presentable, and it's so presentable that I (who knows where the bodies are hidden) think "this is a really cool flat".

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 09:05 (twenty-two years ago)

about to go see ash naylor and his music always makes me happy!

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i am on tenterhooks for the last weeksworth of waiting re approval of my "if" booklet proposal, but yesterday the comish ed sent me a copy of a book by the writer he said my sample pages reminded him of, together with a compliment which (in context) wz like him saying "your writing reminds me of shakespeare only better obv"!!!

i didn't know what to say (so i said "blimey")

(the writer he compared me to is to my knowledge his fave in this field)

anyway there is an editorial board who have to say yes as well but i'm reasonably sure this guy is rooting for me! fingahs so x-ed!

hide the bodies in the garden farrell you mentalist

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Garden = Paved patio (though there's still a line in the lease about takeing care of the garden - maybe we shouldn't have cleaned behind the toilet)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Who is the writer mark?

Blimey Tad! Jealous! :)

Cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

r.durgnat

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 10:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I am happy because I had a great evening last night. On the spur of the moment a friend phoned up and invited me out for a quick beer which turned into an evening of tearful laughter, g&t and supper in the tokyo diner. I didn't have a hangover, I'm getting quite a lot of stuff done at work today and I'm meeting a friend whom I haven't seen since January for drinks tonight.

j0e (j0e), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Go Tad!

I am happy because of "Ghettomusick" and "Flip Flop Rock". And because I am playing football tonight.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Tad hope it goes well for you.

mark- shakespeare is v lame ;)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I have had a productive morning making my house look presentable for my nearly-here gf. I haven't crossed many things off my list, though, so my time on ILX is but brief. Away to the recycling depot!!

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

lots of reasons, at least 2 of of them legal as far as i know

duane, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Mark, how long have you got left?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Good luck Tad! If this all goes well, does this mean you're staying NY/NJ?

It must be fall cleaning week on ILE. It is finally cool enough for me to clean my flat. My landlords have gotten a contractor finally to do work so that's not much time for me to hide the bodies in the back garden. (Why do they have to do this after summer instead of before?)

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

hide them in the centre of the big block of tofu

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"unfashionable scratch-mix DJ Diggory Tofu..."

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

* I made the library look almost tidy. This will be to my advantage when I tell my boss that I'd like to do my library MA after all.
* I read alot of Fargo Rock City today.

I guess these things make me slightly more happy than the norm.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkie, I pick her up at Heathrow in... 41 hours 12 minutes :)))))

p.s. I am now happy cos NEIGHBOURS starts in 7 minutes.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't cleaned my room in a month and long may it continue.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Jel can we be library MA buddies?

I am happy because I just spoke to Matt and he has done loads of sorting and packing, so I can just get home and have a pizza without feeling guilty that no moving prep has been done.

Also, there are biscuits here, which makes the last hour of work seem more bearable...

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

yep, archel that'd be cool! Though, I have my doubts as to whether I'll be allowed to do the course.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

BASEMENT JAXX

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Bad luck, mark, I'm all out of tofu.

It's stir-fried bodies tonight then!!

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"the light the heat
I am complete
I see the doorway
to a thousand churches
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
I see the light and the heat
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light the heat I see in your eyes "

That's why.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Realjukebox just played Ivor Cutler's 'A Real Man' and The Aphex Twin's 'Avril 14th' one after the other. It was exquisite.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to be that complete.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

daaaaaaancing in the rain....I'm siiiiiiiinging in the rain

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm happy because I loved Chicago. Work is busy as hell, especially since I had two days off, but I've still found time to look at apartments online and daydream. :)

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a good day's work on my 'Summerisle' project and now there's a quiet, intelligent French film on TV5 set in Portugal, which I'll visit next month, and I'm feeling good about just being in Europe. What a pleasure it is to live in Europe! To shuttle between Amsterdam and Lisbon and Berlin! To buy cambazola and cheap red wine! Trams! Statues, parks, galleries! Bookshops! Euros! Roman remains! Foreign languages, each one a different way of looking at life!

Momus (Momus), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Is your Summerisle project based at all on Simon Green's Deathstalker series? That would make me happy.

Oh, I'm also happy because I've finally spoken to Suzy! Next time I will see her IN PERSON!!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

No, Dan, imagine Fennesz soundtracking 'The Wicker Man'.

Momus (Momus), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Or imagine Ivor Cutler with the Aphex Twin played right after.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's get back to that Basement Jaxx reason. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm seriously this close *pinches thumb & index finger together* to running out into the rain right now in my bare feet and reenacting that scene in its entirety.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I could do it, too.. but as we know, IT NEVER RAINS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA**!!

(**except for about two weeks straight in January/February)

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Boyfriend

Ally-zay (mlescaut), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe because you've been ending all your sentences with exclamation marks! Kinda like if you smile even if you're not happy and pretty soon you become happy anyway.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan I see your Basement Jaxx, and raise you, BASEMENT JAXX.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I may have just talked
my way into a prized gig.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 3 September 2003 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Because Ilx is back up!

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm happy because this week's almost over.

That, and ILX is back. I missed this place.

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 4 September 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX is back.
It's fucking beautiful outside.
We're moving to Chicago.
I'm leaving work at 2:00.
It's Sarah's birthday tomorrow.
Sarah's band and my band are both playing an outdoor show tomorrow.
We're having a huge Lebanese feast at work today.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 5 September 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Everything Nick said.

My boss and his buyer's agent left to play tennis the rest of the day.

I have a miniature plastic cat on my desk from Nick. I named him C.K. Dexter Haven.

Sarah MCLUsky (coco), Friday, 5 September 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Because the wind today tastes like possibilities-of-beautiful-tomorrows.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 5 September 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Saturday, 6 September 2003 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm happy because i realized that we've had really good IEPs because I talked to women today who:
-had a district bring 27 people to her IEP
-another had a seven-hour-long IEP

...feelin' lucky!

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 7 September 2003 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Are your IEPs possibly like our ARDs?(admission/review/dismissal)

Here an IEP is an Individual Education Plan for the special ed kids (sorry special pop) that I must keep under lock and key in my room.

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Sunday, 7 September 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes! The IEP is shorthand for the IEP meeting where those Individual Education Plans are drafted by the parents, teachers, and district administration. Sometimes there are injuries ;-)

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 7 September 2003 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

ps--let those kids out, Sam! ;-)

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 7 September 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I had bigger closets. I'd lock 'em all up. . .

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Sunday, 7 September 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

My copy of Marianne Dreams has shipped!

As have a bucket of other things, but with that one I went from "finding out it exists" to "it's shipped" pretty quick.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i start my new job on monday ... not the firm i spoke about upthread, but another one that's also pretty good ... it's in northern new jersey. i'm actually pretty excited about this!

Tad (llamasfur), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 23:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Tonight I had a really good dinner out with my dad & my best friend, then came home, and now my puppy is bouncing around on my bed in happy puppy my-mom-came-home bliss. Tomorrow I get to see a Mariner's game, and I see my boy on Friday! After that, I will finally be done with all my flying for a little while- 5 trips back east in 4 months, so I feel like I freaking live at Seatac, grrr. But for right now, I feel really happy. :-)

lyra (lyra), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 03:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 03:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Cuz music made with words and beats and then music with drums and guitars and then more music with words and beats and then ganja and then music with keyboards and electronic drums and now a chocolate milkshake and french fries.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

(If he looks out the window to his left, he can see tomorrow afternoon.)

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 14 September 2003 05:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I've written I don't know how many words tonight -- five thousand, I think -- the old-fashioned way: one after the other until the whole worked its way up to something greater than the sum of its parts. Vampires, but no guns this time. (For those of you who've read The Saint of Daybreak, the bit I'm writing is from Niccoli's point of view, in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.) Glass of port. Pack of cigarettes. Discman. It's working, and it's good, and for the first time in months I feel like I've earned a night's sleep.

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 14 September 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 15 September 2003 07:53 (twenty-two years ago)

because I'm close to three-quarters done with the book and the rest of it is in plain sight--if anything, I have too many words instead of the not-enough I'd been panicking about prior to the big push of the past couple weeks.

Yay, pinkpanther!!!

I'm happy because I had a GREAT weekend and a GREAT party Saturday (thanks for coming Ally & Tom! and thanks to Chris P for the minor thirds cd - I have the dj kitty button on my jacket now). And I spent most of yesterday spending my gift certificates (and playing with like 20 kittens outside of Pet Smart).

Today I'm wearing a new shirt & new necklace and I started listening to my new Pretty girls make graves cd on the way to work. Over lunch, I'm heading to Guitar Center to spend that certificate too!

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 15 September 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray!! I should get the letter in the post tomorrow, but all should be cool. I am sooooooo excited!!! i have a ton of work to do, but I cant really concentrate!

Cheers for the congrats all!
*has the biggest, cheesiest grin in the world*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 September 2003 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, had a pretty cool weekend. Yesterday was the epitome of the lazy hungover Sunday, but with lots of kittens.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 15 September 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, my cakes were HORRIBLE pinkpanther!

ha ha, actually they were store-bought, but still yum. But if you MUST send me a cake...

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 15 September 2003 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha! You want more cake huh? I'll see what I can do! Are you allowed to send food through the post?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 September 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh I just thought!! I can get a can in my new house!! yay! It's got a cat flap as well don't you know! hee hee, i am so happy! :-)

angela (angela), Monday, 15 September 2003 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks!! I am so happy. Everyone would laugh if they saw me, I have this huge dopey grin on my face. I wouldn't mind, but there is no one else in the office today to grin at!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 September 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay house! Now ILX can take it over for parties.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 September 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 September 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Pink, I'm so happy for you and James (and Pepper!) I hope you have many many many wonderful years in that house together!

luna (luna.c), Monday, 15 September 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Excellent, Pink!

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 15 September 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you for having us, Sarah and Nick :) We had a lot of fun, sorry we showed up so late but some people don't wake up til 5:30pm apparently and by some people I mean Tom!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 15 September 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm happy because our house move is 11 days away. And because I'm going down to London on October 3rd. And, oddly, using the Internet a lot less seems pretty healthy too...

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Monday, 15 September 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh I just thought!! I can get a can in my new house!!

Huge congratulations, Pink, especially if you aren't allowed tinned food in your current home - that's really unreasonable.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 15 September 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry if I seemed low-key, Ally, I was pretty drunk and half-awake by the time we went to Village Cafe. But thanks for coming, it was great seeing you guys.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 15 September 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

congratulations everyone on everything!

I'm happy because I saw Shaolin Soccer last night, and that is a movie that makes a guy happy.

s1utsky (slutsky), Monday, 15 September 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry! Don't be sorry, we had fun :)

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 15 September 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Because, dammit, BECAUSE. IS THAT OKAY WITH YOU? HUH? HUH? IS IT? IS IT OKAY?

Good.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 15 September 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

What if it's not okay?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 15 September 2003 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

My cellular phone is here!

I will probably stop being happy about this the first time the little electronic bastard rings.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 15 September 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, I got a cell phone on Friday and I am now officially in the 20th century. I like playing with its silver sleekness and beepy fun.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 15 September 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Now get the Macarena ringtone and the anal frog screensaver!

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 15 September 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Well if it's not okay, then forget it, I'm not happy anymore.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 15 September 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Hardly anyone has my phone number though so no one calls me yet.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 15 September 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

anal frog?

s1utsky (slutsky), Monday, 15 September 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha! < /nelson muntz>

Dude, what did that guy used to say? Be worry, don't happy! SHIT that's not it...

I'm happy cuz I'm happy and I know it clap my hands.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 15 September 2003 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I'm not happy anymore. Nick, you broke my happy.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 15 September 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

(boy, if that doesn't sound like a euphemism for something...)

luna (luna.c), Monday, 15 September 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

It's possible I invented the anal frog.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 15 September 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Not that I'm happy with that.

I mean, I'm okay with it, I'm just not doing the Snoopy dance over it or anything.

... I'm so very tired.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 15 September 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm almost tempted to publish my mobile number here just out of perverse curiosity. (Like: Would anyone use it? Who would it be? Might there be a sinister lurker living two doors from me who reads ILE? Endless intrigue...)

But I can't be arsed charging it. So I won't.

(There's a small clue as to how many calls I get in this posting.)

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Monday, 15 September 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, I lied. Nick didn't break my happy at all.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 15 September 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

BREAKER OF HAPPY! GRRR HULK SMASH HAPPY! CONICK THE BARBARBARIAN ON HAPPY CRUSHING BERSERKER RAMPAGE!!!! BERSERKER BERSERKER!!!!

(translation - Nick is happy thanks to possibly a wee bit too much coffee)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 15 September 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm happy coz I've just got back from a grebt gig at the Port Mahon, a pub which I'd never been to before in east Oxford (and there aren't many of those). Rachael Dadd and KTB. Lovely.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 15 September 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

HHAHAHAHA! What a div! I can get a CAT obv! Am still all smiley today, it's a nice way to be!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 07:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh & thanks everyone. *hugs for y'all*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 07:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Or a 'can' could be interpretated as a toilet, which is a very nice thing to have in one's home.

I'm happy because the sun is streaming in through my blinds.

Sarah MCLusky (coco), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Sun is streaming through the windows here too, which is lovely. I thought winter was here for shure, but it seems, not quite yet.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah, the weather's still great. There are just a few leaves turning (I got yelled at for being too cheerful when I pointed that out to someone). But it's still shorts weather, which is a grand thing.

Yay for Pinkpanther getting a cat! I was rather confused by that typo.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I remembered to eat before I left the house, I got to work and one of my bosses is staying home working today, I solved the mystery of the fradulent check (call me Nancy Drew), and a friend of mine that I'd lost touch with started emailing me again, and is cracking me up.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I got a job.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Cuz I just busted my mom listening to Ween!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay! Can we ask what kinda job?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

is it listening to Ween!

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks, kids.
I'll be doing boring old accounting still, but for a lot more money than what I was getting before and with a lot more IT responsibility, which will make it more interesting for me. I think I'll get to hire lackeys to do a lot of the menial work, too. At least $8K more than my last job, an extra week of holidays, a pension, and lackeys. WHAT THE HELL DID I DO TO BE SO LUCKY?

Another reason why I am happy: my dad is doing really well. He's at the hospital in my hometown now and will likely be in there until Christmas at least, just doing physiotherapy and stuff. He's talking and eating and he seems to have his memory intact. According to my mom he's even a bit randy (why she tells me these things I'll never know)!

I'm a lucky son of a bitch.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, now I'm happy cuz of everything Bryan just told us...YAY TO THE MAX!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha! Yay Bryan!

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

You should make your new employers hire oompa loompas exclusively as your lackeys.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I am Willy Wonka-esque. Actually, I'll be doing the hiring so that's how I'll structure the ad!

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm happy because Bryan's luck has changed and things are looking up in his world. :)

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I so want oompa loompas to work here. Not that Veruca Salt bitch, though - she can go fuck herself.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay Bryan job and dad doing well! Yay happy Luna! Yay to all!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

That's really great Bryan, I'm glad to hear it.

I'm happy because I am perservering through my allergies and am sending off another film fest app today (and we were invited to apply to this fest, so that's kind of exciting and a first).

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Cos I finish 4 months of work tomorrow, bring on spending money, the parties, the winter full of new coats and nights out and sparkling pavements.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Just 'cause. =)

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Because sometimes pictures don't lie...

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

YAY.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 06:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Congrats Brian, you deserve it!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 07:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Coz I have just got back in touch with a girl I haven't spoken to for a year and I feel great !!

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay again for Bryan!

I am happy because I really appreciate the support I've gotten on ILX. I know I haven't had any big tragedies to deal with, but sometimes I get down at work, being surrounded by so much misogynism and racism and other unfortunate -isms and it's a nice breath of fresh air to turn to ILX for a moment.

Also, they are cutting the grass at our complex and it's beautiful out.

Sarah MCLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The New York Dolls by the New York Dolls + everything bagel with cream cheese + the excitement of an impending hurricane + lazy day at work = happy NA.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh shit I just realized that you guys are like right in the path of Isabel!!!

I don't know if I'd call it happy exactly, but I'm in an entertained whimsical mood thanks to one of the most ridiculous mornings ever.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

my stomach's better. i can eat again! and i just had a really good bagel.

also, it's a beautiful day. i walked back to brooklyn from union square. it was unusually pretty over by pier 17 -- the sunshine was making the river sparkle.

smoky topaz (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I just saw a production of Hedwig & the Angry Inch directed by a buddy of mine from Ships. Another friend was playing lead guitar for the Inch.

It was good and I'm happy I know such creative, productive people.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 18 September 2003 04:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm really happy because i might be going to the usa in like 6-8 months.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 18 September 2003 05:57 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 18 September 2003 07:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I am happy because we got the confirmation through on our house. It is sold 'subject to contract' obv, but we have informed the solicitors & we are all systems go. Also I had my last counselling session yesterday & she says that I am much improved & I don't need to see her anymore, yay! Everything is very rosy at the moment, I am so happy. Oh & the sun is shining! Anyone for a celebratory hug?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 18 September 2003 07:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay, Pinkpanther! I'm up for hugs!

Sam, I saw a stage production of Hedwig a while back and it was so great! I actually saw it before I saw the movie version. I had no idea I was basically going to a rock show.

I'm happy because my bassist friend got me the live Bjork box set for my birthday! Woo hoo!

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Thursday, 18 September 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw the original production of Hedwig but not the movie. That was awhile ago and I have a bad memory so it seemed fairly new to me last night. They also added a lot of local material to Hedwig's banter so that was nice.

I'm happy today b/c I might see * tonight and tomorrow is a teacher development day so NO KIDS!!

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 18 September 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Got through my first day unscathed. I'm so tired I could throw up, but otherwise I'm happy. Confused but happy.

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 18 September 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

care to share your chocolate nichole?

Snapped off a huge chunk, just for Di.

Got through my first day unscathed. I'm so tired I could throw up, but otherwise I'm happy. Confused but happy.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 18 September 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i am unhappy because no-one is paying attention to my post which mentions that i am probably coming to the USA in 6-8 motnhs.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 18 September 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Where are you going, Di?

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 18 September 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Di, about time! At least, we might be actually able to say hello vocally....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 18 September 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I noticed, Di! I was too zoned to say anything at the time.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 18 September 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

the main places i wanna visit at this stage are LA (where i will be flying in, of course), san francisco, tucson, seattle, and portland. i'm looking at coming april/may/june-ish, how brave of me! it all depends on if i get a scholarship which my supervisor has convinced me is highly likely. in fact, going on a big fat holiday with the money was her suggestion :-). i will know for sure whats happening in feb/march.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 18 September 2003 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Friday, 19 September 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 19 September 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 19 September 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

we should organise an LA FAP!

Should? No should about it! It is required for all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 19 September 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

And Di, hon, I'd really want to meet you. I hope the timing can be right for me to get to do that.

Legendary Nothingness (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 20 September 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I have decided that I'm a gloomy optimist, this made me quite happy.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 20 September 2003 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

dee, i would love to meet you too! if theres any way you can make it to LA when i'm there i'd be stoked. theres still the chance i may add texas to my list of places to visit :-)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 20 September 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually haven't been to L.A. in ages. I think the last time I was there was 12 or 13 years ago. Plus, I don't want you to have to go through all sorts of hassle just to come to TX. So... hm. I'll definitely have to think about doing some schedule clearing and hitting up my aunt who works for this one particular airline company once definites start coming up.

Legendary Nothingness (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 20 September 2003 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

If Dee visits LA around the same time as Di, we will rock this town to the ground. Di and Dee, superheroes!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 20 September 2003 23:56 (twenty-two years ago)

You should take Dee and Di to a Dido show!

oops (Oops), Saturday, 20 September 2003 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

did i hear the word dildo?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 21 September 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

SHOCKING.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 21 September 2003 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Dideedo, neighboreenos!

oops (Oops), Sunday, 21 September 2003 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Dildos? Uh, no thanks hon. I like you and all, but.... ;)

I'm suddenly becoming very, very giggly here. Like a little teenybopper.

Legendary Nothingness (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 21 September 2003 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Di should come to Texas. LA is for suckahs.

one month passes...
Cos I have the cutest boyfriend in the world, everyone else can suck it.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
Because of the Pixies cover of "I Can't Forget" the memory of which has now officially surpassed four times as good as the actual song can possibly have been (scientists today said).

Also because of Shane McGowan's cover of said song, which only exists in my brain (and now, in yours).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

There is no reason for my good mood.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that your little sister, Ally?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Allyzay, I love you more than I could ever say.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I am seriously so happy right now because I bought a little space heater for my cubicle at work and it's all toasty now. I work in the friggin coldest office. I swear there's cold air blowing out of the vents. They don't have the heat on!! Bastards. But anyway, the heater is sending me into fits of delerious joy. Mmmmm.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that your little sister, Ally?

Haha yeah from left M., J., me, and K. We don't really look anything alike as you can see.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 2 December 2003 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I am happy because the librarian action figure (with push-button shushing action) that I ordered a month ago finally arrived in today's mail.

Jodi (Celerina), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I am happy because the scene out my window at work is beautiful.

Mandee (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Because a nice Mexican woman found and returned to me my LeFax organizer (which had all my addresses, checkbook and passport ) that I drunkenly lost in a taxicab last Wednesday and wouldn't even take a reward!

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Because I could not care less about a list like this. It baffles me to see people get so worked up over something so meaningless.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Lars, tis Spin's raison d'etre. If they couldn't persuade people to go nuts, what would they actually have to write about?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Spin doesn't bother me since I don't read it -- it's just funny to see how hysterical some people get over their top 40 list.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I've cast an eye over that list and thread and felt myself not give a care. My time was much better spent in the previous two hours napping rather than writing on that.

I'm happy because Jim's in love, because Nicole matures like a good claret, and because I haven't spent long enough reading ILX today to make me evil and bad-tempered.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 4 December 2003 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm happy because now we've got an apartment lined up and the rent starts the 15th so we could go up early to check it out maybe.

Also, my boss is off hunting today.

Also, he didn't try to kill me when I gave him my notice.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 4 December 2003 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 4 December 2003 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a new soundcard for the first time in months; can therefore listen to these reputedly very nice Bowie mp3s of a Paris concert; and was able to replace my dead-overnight DVD player more cheaply than if it were not the holiday season.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

It's snowing like crazy bananas here. Hopefully it will cover up all the litter that this city accumulates.

I'm going to the surprisingly lovely city of Pittsburgh tomorrow, if anybody has any asian restaurant suggestions nows the time to post.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"My wife went to Copenhagen..."

Come on then, what's the hilarious punchline?

MikeyG (MikeyG), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard dramatic suspenseful about-to-go-to-commercial 70s superhero theme music accompanying Ronan's last post in my head.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 5 December 2003 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

that's how I imagined it too, perhaps like the Ironman music on Supreme Clientele, that first track is killer.

Tonight I will feed Lukas good food, take him to a photography exhibit (he loves shit like this, honest), head on over to the UK student center game room to play a very brief Mannequins show, and then we'll prob'ly end up passing out on the couch watching Finding Nemo or Labyrinth. I love taking Lukas places.

Christmas themed roleplaying? So is this like D&D but with Christmas elves?

I'm happy because I'm in bed with my cat on my lap. Also, I picked up some fresh lemons this afternoon to make myself a hot totty.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Saturday, 6 December 2003 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, the idea is that there's the Order of Saint Nicholas -- I have T-shirts, so people are always asking me what that is -- and they're like the elves who are badass so Santa doesn't have to be. Santa's gotta be shielded from the real world, to stay optimistic enough to keep up the whole gift-giving thing, so the OSN are the guys who have to be there to get his back when the Vatican launches a missile at the sleigh or the Grunch[1] tries to blow up the North Pole.

The idea was "Rankin-Bass Christmas specials" + "the Lee Majors part of Scrooged." (If Paul Dini's Jingle Belle had been out when I wrote it, I probably would've stolen stuff from that.) They've done a lot more with it since, with the other holidays having their badasses and whatnot, and I added the hockey tournament the OSN's brigades have every Boxing Day when things are pretty quiet.

[1] I couldn't use "Grinch," so I had to use "Grunch," see.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Saturday, 6 December 2003 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

An ebay purchase from ages ago finally arrived, a Pixies tribute album from Japan. It might be terrible, but right now, as yet unlistened to, it's perfect.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 6 December 2003 04:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I have that. It's crazy because every song is a totally different genre.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Saturday, 6 December 2003 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

But tonight I took the practice test that was sent to me by the GRE folks and I did much, much better. It's the exact same test that was given a few years ago and my score would've put me in the 90th percentile.

I'm k-happy/overwhelmed due to being involved in a ridiculous amount of music projects all of a sudden: playing synth in a brand new party-punk band, playing keyboards for a droney beautiful atmospheric music band, playing drums for The Mannequins, recording songs for my strange dark-pop-jazz-rock k-experimental group's album, recording a shit ton of songs for my own album, working on lyrical ideas for a hip-hop duo, and doing They Might Be Giants' "Dead" on the piano whenever my son asks (which is often [he also refers to it by his own alternate title "Bag of Groceries"]).

And I'm looking forward to fruker's barbecue even tho it might end up being just yr ordinary regular indoor party on a/c of the weather. And coz I had a great night out last night with workmates and coz I'm really looking forward to going up to Glasgow in a couple of weeks!

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 29 May 2004 10:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Last night listened to lots of music, watched a couple of films, drank a bottle of rioja, saw France beat Andorra, ate a Sloppy Giuseppe and some chocolate truffle cheesecake, and this mornign I've been very productive, written 1000 words about Nick Drake, 1000 about The Stone Roses, another 300 (so far) about Orbital, and I'm probably going top spend the afternoon having sex while watchjing Sex & Lucia. Oh, and my parents are away so I have the house to myself. Feel free to hate me.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Saturday, 29 May 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

coz I had a good weekend, speshly Saturday. Fruker's bbq was a success, in no part due to the foresight of Jim who brought a gazebo for us to huddle under when the showers occurred. Had a good time at the quiz on Sunday even tho we were "outside the money"...our lack of knowledge of Hell's Kitchen contributing to our downfall. Monday I managed to salvage what could have ended up being an awful day (a planned meet up with a friend in London failed to materialise) by going to a pub I hadn't been to in ages, chatting to old friends and making new ones. And it was nice and warm and sunny and stuff.

Because i had a great birthday weekend this past weekend and THEN tonight, walking down 1st Ave. after a nice bit o' curry I stumble across boxes of nearly-pristine 45's on the corner of 7th St. I start digging thru after finding out they're up for grabs 'cause the record store a few feet away has dumped them. Needless to say, I came home with a big bag of some great sh*t. Lots of bubblegum, reggae and disco, including a few Prelude, 70's NuYorican salsa and some Patrick Adams - produced stuff. Yippeee!

my dvd of 'wargames' has just arrived.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 9 June 2005 08:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm still happy I am pregnant. But I have been having panic attacks - reading too much about what can go wrong is not helpful. I just discovered that feta, pre-packaged salads and goatcheese are a definite no-no (unless the cheese is baked). ARGH! But I'm very happy that I'm pregnant. Only I should worry less. :-(((((

We're also going to NY in two weeks time. WE CAN NOT WAIT.

nathalie's post modern sleaze fest (stevie nixed), Thursday, 9 June 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

I seem to have learned how to sleep. Four straight nights with no 3am "now what the fuck will I do" sessions.

My son seems to be over the chickenpox.

Tomorrow I will be drinking lots of birthday beer and treating myself to new cds.

(Happiness slightly offset by getting another year closer to ticking the next box up on the "age" bit of survey forms)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 9 June 2005 08:53 (twenty years ago)

cos my offsider has just showed up so in a second i am going to get a coffee. mmmmmmm flat white.

How do you know it's delicious? I hope it is though.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

I'm an optimist

Seuss, Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

I have good reason to be, too. It includes spicy italian sausage, roma tomato, kalamata olives, roasted capsicum, garlic and fresh basil

Seuss, Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

I'm happy because I went on a walk and the FOUNTAIN IN THE LAKE WAS ON, and Boys of Summer came on my ipod. Also, because Mandee is my roommate, and I like my friends, and my cat is cute!

the D Double signal (nordicskilla), Monday, 13 June 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

I got cheap clothes for work from Wal-Mart (shut up, my income this summer is going to be like $500) and tasty stuff for salad (avocados, craisins, nuts, mandarin oranges). And next week I'll be at the seaside. And...well, nevermind, I still hate everyone.

Maria (Maria), Monday, 13 June 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

I'm going home for some Jesus Juice!

The King Of Pop (GerryNemo), Monday, 13 June 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

rainy (rainy), Monday, 13 June 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

After 20 years of deterioration from Alzheimer's, my wife's mother's misery finally ended last night. There have been tears, but mostly there has been a lot of relief on all sides, and tonight at the funeral home there was plenty of laughter and everyone telling their favorite Louise stories. This might seem an odd thread to post that, but no... no, not really.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 01:35 (twenty years ago)

My condolences, Rock. My grandma was similarly released from her misery a few years ago and I was glad.
