Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 7 September 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

As long as the 'livery dude comes in an ilXor t-shirt, s/he may bring me rottenburgers for all I care.
(Cheese obligatory, tho)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 7 September 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

fresh tomato, mozzarella, garlic, and basil. none of these "toppings".

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 7 September 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish death upon the first person who says 'pineapple'.

I was about to say pineapple. Sorry, Julio. Instead, I'll say thick crust, chicken, pesto, extra cheese. (Sam's Club has a delicious pizza with these ingredients. Well, no thick crust, unfortunately.)

As long as the 'livery dude comes in an ilXor t-shirt, s/he may bring me rottenburgers for all I care.

WHY THE HELL ARE THERE NO ILXOR T-SHIRTS? I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO WEAR ONE SO THAT I CAN DECLARE MY LOVE FOR ALL OF YOU TO THE WORLD!

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Sunday, 7 September 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

ILXOR t-shirts is fine. but a cute girl delivering is U+K.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 7 September 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Pineapple on a pizza is wondrous and grand. Those who deny are damning themselves.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 7 September 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

bah.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 7 September 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll choose pineapple without ham.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Sunday, 7 September 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 7 September 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i've just rediscovered pineapple on pizzas, but it won't last

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 7 September 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't care what y'all get as long as we get the cheesy garlic bread on the side.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 7 September 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

canadian bacon. any kind of meat actually. NO VEGETABLES.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 7 September 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

please be sure that the pizza delivery guy doesn't have a bomb locked around his neck.

(sorry, bad joke.)

hstencil, Sunday, 7 September 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

WHY THE HELL ARE THERE NO ILXOR T-SHIRTS? I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO WEAR ONE SO THAT I CAN DECLARE MY LOVE FOR ALL OF YOU TO THE WORLD!

Y'know Christine, inspired by your words and by Trayce's "Oscar speech thankfest" thread, I did up a quick and fun little .gif one might find on a t-shirt.

http://deanna.ladyinterference.com/ilx/luvilxor.gif

*laughs* Possibly NOT a great t-shirt logo thingy, but oh well.

canadian bacon. any kind of meat actually. NO VEGETABLES.

Aw. I love veggie pizza. Oh well, 'tis your pizza, and means more veggie pizza for me (joy!).

(sorry, bad joke.)

You're darned tootin'. ;)

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 7 September 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

There can be only one t-shirt:

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 7 September 2003 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

*sigh*

Oh well, it's not what I wanted, but pass the red pepper.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 7 September 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn it, I asked for a 22" rim!

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Sunday, 7 September 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

DUB: The Food Issue

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 7 September 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

well, you guys are all splitting this anyway, so bitch all you want.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 7 September 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I've just order Bacon Texas Double Cheese. Why must pizzas have names like burgers?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 7 September 2003 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

It sounds like you have just ordered Hell Pizza.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 7 September 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Hell Pizza sounds great.

Anyway, as stated upthread, the true king of pizzas is the cudurone, or "white" pizza. Little bit of olive oil, some basil, pressemelo... lovely.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 7 September 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh, I forgot about white pizza.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 7 September 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

There can be only one t-shirt

So true.
Though not necessarily the whole & only truth, image wise.

Anyways, with both the smaller and the bigger fella up front
-- hm, ilXorites with XL beer bellies have an advantage? d'oh! --
and a few well chosen ilxpressions (containing 'Yay' and 'Don't Look If You Hate Us', probbly) on the back,
I'd wear that t-'ing like there was no washday.

(But not forgetting to make my money order payable to the dear t-maker, first. Seriously)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 7 September 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever y'all do, please God don't get that squid-ink sauce!!!

If I have any say in this, I'd like a thin-crusteded pizza cut into those awesome little squares instead of triangular slices, white garlic sauce instead of tomato, hella cheese, and portabella 'shrooms, red and yellow bell peppers, red onion, tomatoes, and BACON.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Sunday, 7 September 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It sounds like you have just ordered Hell Pizza.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Sunday, 7 September 2003 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 7 September 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

jalapenos and pineapples. . .oh damn you already ordered.

awhile back when everyone was offering logos wasn't there some talk of cafe press merch?

I have to say that i'm not for this even though i'm huge fannish tshirt person.

It would somehow feel like the site going with to a GUI. Just not our style. . .

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Sunday, 7 September 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Fetishized lesbian.

Leee (Leee), Sunday, 7 September 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

is that like Martinizing?

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 7 September 2003 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

four months pass...
hey, is it too late to call and add on to our order?

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

SPICY CHICKEN BITCH!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

And should we finally get the T-shirts made?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Anchovies and artichoke hearts.

El Spinktor (El Spinktor), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

why is stevem not the one phoning?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

So what's the secret code word I tell the phone person when I want them to deliver me a bag of weed with my pizza?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

The t-shirt

Chris V (Chris V), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, I thought weed was one of the most popular toppings at Mellow Mushroom!

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

So what's the secret code word I tell the phone person when I want them to deliver me a bag of weed with my pizza?

"Make it with smoked mozzerella, please." (god, that was stupid.)

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like to make an announcement:

When ordering pizza with OTHER people, y'know like more than 3 people, DO NOT IMPOSE YOUR BIZARRE PIZZA TOPPINGS on them, okay?

Keep your chicken ranch cream-sauce pinapple garlic-sauce pesto bacon ground beef no-sauce bbq seafood meatball etc puke, at home ok? We're sharing here. This is called being polite in mixed company.

The ONLY acceptable items for group ordering are:
Pepperoni, Sausage, Green Pepper, Mushrooms, Black Olives, Onion, Garlic, Tomatoes, extra cheese.

Borderline acceptable items are those which require emphatic consent from ALL

IF YOU ARE SUCH AN EGOMANIAC that you have to have WHAT YOU WANT in this situation, then by all means, order YOUR OWN small pie. Nobody else wants to eat your disgusting and perverted concoction.

Haven't you people heard of COMMON COURTESY?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

jesus christ, someone pass Spencer the bong.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry the borderline items which require consent from everyone present should be listed as:
anchovies, pineapple-ham, spinach, jalapenos and beef.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

THANKS FOR THE CLARIFICATION THE CARB IS ON THE LEFT FUCKO

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

This is one of my ultimate pet peeves. I can't stand people who, through the force of their egos/appetites, impose nonsense on others who are either meek or can't be bothered to argue with the rude.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

also, teeny, "fucko"? thanks.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

spencer otm, and while we're on the subject keep the brits away b/c they'll order things like prawn and sweetcorn.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I should clarify that I enjoy many of those odd toppings myself.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

So Spencer, I suppose that means I'm not allowed to order a pizza with EXTRA TITS for this crew? Then guess who's not allowed at MY DINNER TABLE? PIZZA NAZI!!!

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

arhhh no im dieting yr killin me but i would have a plain thin cheese and tom

Emma williams (Emma williams), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

If you say "tit pizza" fast too many times, you end up saying "zit pita". It's true.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I propose that people who order "tits" or other strange abominations and impose their will on others are the REAL goose stepping Pizza Nazis!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

spencer your post was hysterical :)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

haha Ken, touche!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm surprised there aren't more erotic pizzerias. If you can have one type of erotic pie, why not another?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

sweetcorn is shit, i wouldnt have that on a pizza.

what about egg?

Stringent Stepper (Stringent), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

That Warrant song is so much better as "Pizza Pie"!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

ilxor Colin sent me this petition for "Pizza Party U.S.A."

http://www.themorningnews.org/archives/opinions/pizza_party_usa.php

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm surprised there aren't more erotic pizzerias. If you can have one type of erotic pie, why not another?
I think penis-shaped cheese would have unpleasant associations.

sym (shmuel), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Ricotta!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I am SO asking for tits on my pizza next time I order one on the phone, just to see what the person on the other line will say.

"Oh, and can I get tits on that. No, wait... only half of it. Just tits on half the pie. You do have tits, right?"

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

The ONLY acceptable items for group ordering are:
Pepperoni, Sausage, Green Pepper, Mushrooms, Black Olives, Onion, Garlic, Tomatoes, extra cheese.

No they bloody arent. I hate any kind of meat on my pizza, if you put salami or olives or any kind of red meat anywhere NEAR my pizza you can wear it on your shirt front, buddy.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 5 February 2004 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I should clarify that any/none of those ingredients and in any combination are acceptable. If there's a vegetarian, then two smaller pies should be ordered.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 February 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

buddy.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 February 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh im not a vegetarian :) I just think meat on pizzas is weird and blergh.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 5 February 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Even Pep!!!???

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 February 2004 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

where's my motherfuckin spicy chicken?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 5 February 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

ESPECIALLY pep! I cant stand salami/pepperoni of any stripe blerrrghhhhaaaghhh.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 5 February 2004 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

those who deny the anchiovie are first up against the wall come the revolution

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 5 February 2004 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't mind anchovies. But pineapple on pizza is an abomination against the goodness of both pizza and pineapple.

j.lu (j.lu), Thursday, 5 February 2004 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

trayce you're very weird

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 5 February 2004 04:09 (twenty-one years ago)

come to think of it, so are the rest of you

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 5 February 2004 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Anchovies are an additional borderline option, because they're OG.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 February 2004 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Pineapple/Canadian Bacon=classic
Fresh tomatoes, thinly sliced, w/ basil/pesto=classic
Well done garlic chicken=classic

A bunch of greasy crap like sausage, salami, pepperoni, with gaseous vegetables like green peppers and tasteless underdone/overdone mushrooms, and shitty canned olives = Quintessential DUD

Best: Made at home, (or using Boboli) with simple garlic/onion/tomato sauce, olive oil, bufallo mozarrella, fresh basic, and ground lamb.

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 5 February 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

look, I just want a simple margherita (cheese & tomato) with no tomato slices on it. Thank you pizza gods.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 February 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Pineapple/Canadian Bacon=classic

I'm glad to see there's some pizza sanity in this world.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 February 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually like that too.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

mmmm pizza. fuxing diet

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

j.lu and jess speaketh the truth re: pineapples, anchovies, and pizza.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 5 February 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

What is it about California that makes you think pineapple can be good on pizza?

j.lu (j.lu), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I love it. Ham and pineapple, "Canadian bacon" and pineapple, spicy chicken and pineapple, pepperoni and pineapple...all really good. I like everything except green pepper on pizza, though.

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

One of my favorite slice at Ian's here (local joint that has caused much outrage and disbelief among ILXors) is the BBQ chicken & pineapple. Big, fresh pineapple cubes...MMMMM SO GOOD.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm into anything on my pizza, but it must have tomato sauce. To me it's a tragedy if it's anything else.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Other Ian's favs: potato pizza, macaroni & cheese pizza, steak & fries pizza, black bean feta avocado pizza, etc.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 5 February 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

What is it about California that makes you think pineapple can be good on pizza?

remember what the hippes were always threatening about the warer supply?

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 5 February 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

arrgghh that is supposed to read: the water supply

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 5 February 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

eleven months pass...
Revive because I want pizza, even though I'm not particularly hungry and I have all too many better things on which to spend the money. But talk me into it. Or talk me out of it, if that's your preference.

Actually, I believe it's the pineapple pizza that's OFF THE HOOK.

I never get sick of pizza. Well, I do, but I'm always better in two or three days.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 24 January 2005 03:33 (twenty years ago)

Pineapple on pizza is delicious. With ham it is doubly delicious.

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 24 January 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

Thanks to all for participating! However, it's too late for any decent places to deliver, and the place that does deliver until 3am is so not worth it. And as I'm still not hungry, I'll try to defer this craving and treat myself to a pizza lunch tomorrow.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 24 January 2005 03:56 (twenty years ago)

You know what a surprisingly good topping is? Banana.

Take that and put it in your cessmouths, pineapple lovers.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Monday, 24 January 2005 04:27 (twenty years ago)

Aw, you wouldn't want to go to a 24-hour supermarket and pick yourself up a frozen pizza?? The Freschetta variety is very tasty! And it's much better to wait an hour than it is to wait several for the pizza joints to open up.

I like looking at my old posts here, BTW. Like a visit from when I was Eager To Please. And a bit on the hyper side.

I made a DiGiorno pizza today, it tasted like ass. Why do all frozen pizzas load up with tomato sauce? Is it to mask assy cheese and assy pepperoni?

From now on, I stick to Pizza Hut, because I can order online and not have to deal with their telephone lackeys.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 24 January 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

I gorged myself on a Pizza Hut pizza on Thursday, and it was so greasy that I decided I'm sticking to Tombstone Originals from here on out.

ooooh i could go for some pizza. i had a couple of slices some weeks back at my little pizzeria on court st (my favorite pizza joint in the hood) and they were perfect. no toppings, just a sprinkling of black pepper and oregano.

cathy berberian (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 24 January 2005 06:23 (twenty years ago)

Most Pizza Hut pizza tastes HORRIBLE. Ugh. The only good Pizza Hut locations are, oddly, the ones as far away from a city center as possible, where the pizzas aren't loaded down with grease and the sauce actually tastes tomatoey. It's like the Pizza Huts all got together with the Dairy Queens and decided that they'd stick their best locations in the most remote bits of suburbia and let the people close to the city center get the ugly gross-out stuff. (Though there *is* one good Dairy Queen locally that isn't like that....)

Freschetta is actually the tastiest frozen pizza I've had. I will acknowledge that it's VERY easy to mess up frozen pizza, but, trust me, Freschetta's actually pretty good.

Samantha Baker (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 24 January 2005 06:48 (twenty years ago)

speaking as a former pizza hut employee, i advise y'all not to eat there. just trust me on that.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 24 January 2005 06:50 (twenty years ago)

I like my urine-soaked cheese sticks and semen-battered wings.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 24 January 2005 06:56 (twenty years ago)

If a frozen pizza is good, it's usually costs just as much as getting fresh pizza, which is always better.. the only advantage with frozen is that the serving size is usually enough for one, whereas you often have leftover delivery pizza, which doesn't taste nearly as good as fresh delivery pizza...

donut christ (donut), Monday, 24 January 2005 07:06 (twenty years ago)

i'm cutting back on cheese. : (

I cut way back on cheese myself a long time ago - that and ground meat and fried stuff. However, shredded soy cheese actually works great on homemade pizza - it melts well and looks and tastes basically right - the only thing really missing is the "richness" experience. It has no saturated fat, whereas a large DiGiorno has something like 2 days of the recommended allowance.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 24 January 2005 07:28 (twenty years ago)

i can't remember the brand name, but there's an awesome shredded soy mozzarella/monterey jack that comes in bright green resealable plastic bag. it makes fantastic pizzas, quesadillas, and omelettes.

my secret gross pizza delight: donato's thin crust with jalapeno and pineapple.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 24 January 2005 11:45 (twenty years ago)

dominos, pepperoni and sausage - ordered one via the net last night. mmm. and enough for reheated portions today.

when i used to date my ex who lived in manchester, i'd see her off on the train on a sunday evening and then trudge back the hour from euston on the tubes, getting back to my empty flat and empty fridge and ordering pizza and bottles of cola from dominos because even the 24 hour asda up the road closed at 4pm on a sunday. Bleak Pizza.

stevie (stevie), Monday, 24 January 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

i liked tombstone (?) frozen pizza when i used to visit chicago a lot. and the memory of slices from a pizza place in uptown manhattan two years ago still warms the cockles of my belly.

stevie (stevie), Monday, 24 January 2005 12:09 (twenty years ago)

Mmmm, Dominos Sizzler - Tandoori Chicken, tomato and garlic sauce, pepperoni, onions and jalepeno peppers.

That new pizza base is foul however, the Double Indulgence? Barf, it's like a melted cheese slice betweeen two pieces of cardboard. Avoid at all costs.

Rumpkin, Monday, 24 January 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

i miss pizzas with roasted peppers, spinach, calamata olives, and soy sausage from viva on second avenue. also, calzones with broccoli, red onion, and miso tofu.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 24 January 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA IS GREAT.
Amy's frozen pizzas are very good and not too saucy, and you can get one with soy cheese. They can be kinda pricey, though. My favorite is the spinach one. We have a pizza place in town called Mad Mushroom where you can get $5 cheese bread with rance sauce at 3am. So tasty.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 24 January 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 24 January 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

the frozen pizzas from trader joe's and whole foods are really yummy and not that expensive. my favorite kind is roasted vegetable.

cathy berberian (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 24 January 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

i'm comin' over to michael white's house, but i'll have my pizza gorgonzola-free, thanks.

cathy berberian (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 24 January 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

I spent one winter in Milan (not a notoriously good town for pizza) in a working class neighborhood near Porta Genova, relatively penurious, and ate cheap pizza made by a Napolitanian immigrant for dinners on end. He made the one I described above (which I don't think is traditionally napolitano) with a thin layer of real mozzarella, baked until the cheese starts to form a crust and then added the crumbled gorgonzola.

I also remember once or twice a week coming out of a club (whose name I have thankfully forgotten) drunkenly around one or two in the morning and making a beeline for a sort of mobile sandwich truck whose owner made the best panini!! My favorite, which I was always too impatient for him to get off the grill, was called a 'primavera' and consisted of "french roll" spread with olive oil, salt, and celery seed, made with mozzarella di buffala, tomatoes, and ham, and grilled.

I personally loathe pineapple on pizza, but I am broad minded about flavor and personal tastes, especially now that pizza has ceased to be solely an Italian dish. I can even accept the existence of deep dish pizza, provided I don't have to eat much of it but what I do find inexcusable is the corn syrup laden sauce, mystery-meat sausage (FDA Grade F - Circus Animals), 'stuffed' with 'cheese' mass market stuff that abounds in the Pizza Hut, Shakeys, and Dominos kinds of places. Better to starve.

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 24 January 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

i already miss gorgonzola.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 24 January 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

the frozen pizzas from trader joe's and whole foods are really yummy and not that expensive. my favorite kind is roasted vegetable.

There's one type -- Olympiad Pizza, some sort of pseudo-semi Greek pizza deal -- which I rely on. Heats up easy, not as bad healthwise as others, feta and olives, one person serving. I use that for my fix these days as otherwise I now pretty much steer clear of pizza.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 January 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

Oh hell yeah, the Olympiad is gravy. I mean, it doesn't have gravy or nothing, just...you know. Doesn't Trader Joe's do some kinda cheeseless pizza with olive paste or something, too?

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 24 January 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

Oooooooooooo I am so glad I waited until lunch today to have pizza at Armand's. A pizza buffet can be good as long as 1) the pizza was good at the start; 2) it is kept under heat lamps, not over steam; and 3) there is a brisk turnover of pies. All of these applied to today's feast.

In the meantime, those of you who think pineapple is a suitable pizza topping -- I beg you, GET HELP. Medical science these days is doing wonders with people like you.

I think people who are diametrically opposed to any sweet/savory combos are childish.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I love butter pecan ice cream all the more for its slight saltiness. But I object to pineapple cooked on pizza because pineapple is best in its fresh state. I suppose that makes me a pineapplist, but I'M OKAY WITH THAT.

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

You could ask them to add it at the end?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

I think people who are diametrically opposed to any sweet/savory combos are childish.

I think that arguing about other people's taste is childish in general since it's such a personal thing whose bases are not rational but primoridal, though many people should be at least encouraged to experiment lest their conservativeness deprive them of new joys. Knowing what one likes and doesn't like is fine provided you've at least tried new tastes. I like some sweet/savory combos (though I think the anglo-american palate is too sweet)and it's the sweet/sweet that bugs me in pineapple pizza (pineapple and tomato). I really, really prefer raw pineapple to cooked.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

Pineapple & ham are a great combination on pizza. Some other good combos: pepperoni & mushrooms, sausage & onions, zucchini & jalapenos. Things that should never be found on pizza: anchovies.

Joe left the restaurant with my pizza at 12:04, after Chris double-checked it for quality starting at 11:57. What happened in that seven minutes? Do you think they spat in my pizza cuz it's so late? tbh i filled out the order form assuming they were already closed and kind of feel bad for makin them bring me a pizza.

I had the best fucking slice of pizza today. Mozzarella, pesto, pine nuts, grilled chicken, sun-dried tomato.

It is 1:30 in the morning and I am still haunted by the memory of the second slice of pizza, the last one left from that awesome, godlike pie that I did not take home with me. I have the munchies something awful and all there is in my apartment is a can of artichoke hearts and some almond butter.

It was a bit of a rollercoaster but I made it through. Guy called to say he couldn't find the address so while I was telling it him again my phone dropped out AGAIN. Fuck you T-Mobile! I called back, he was 5 mins away, it was all ok. Had time to put the kettle on in advance, so it's not all bad. I ate that pizza in about 3 mins flat though.

There are other reasons for the racism: the legacy of fascism and the continuing adulation of Benito Mussolini; the tangible insecurity, even sense of inferiority, of many Italians; widespread economic misery for at least the last decade; and a political class that is absurdly ignorant. But perhaps the most interesting explanation for racism comes from an Italian mate of mine who's an armchair anthropologist. He maintains that in a country that is famously lawless, in which rules are often wilfully ignored, everyone is oddly very conformist in other ways: all wearing the same fashionable colour, or eating the same food at the same festivals. Italy simply isn't a country of eccentricity, or a place where difference or diversity are accepted, let alone cherished. I once tried to experiment by putting an unorthodox topping on my pizza and was harangued by irate mates as if I'd committed a terrible crime.
