Okay, who's down? I created a league... I'd like to do a live draft like we did for baseball, since if people can't make it you can still pre-rank the computar drafts. Looks like most evenings are taken (I just preset it to a random date... it can & will be changed), but post your avail times and we'll come up with a consensus. Also let me know if you think any settings should be changed. Here's to a good season!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Sunday, 5 October 2003 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm all signed up.

M/W are bad for me until 10pm CST, but any other time should work.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 5 October 2003 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Ch-ching. I'm in. Any time is good for me for drafting.

rob geary (rgeary), Sunday, 5 October 2003 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi Aaron!

rob geary (rgeary), Sunday, 5 October 2003 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Mully's Molars reporting for camp.

Leee (Leee), Sunday, 5 October 2003 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh i signed up

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 5 October 2003 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice! We're already up to 7 teams. I put the max all the way at 20, which would make things interesting.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Sunday, 5 October 2003 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

should I join
I know as much about bb as I do about football

Ed (dali), Sunday, 5 October 2003 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm gonna sign up for this.

Wednesday nights are generally bad for me and I'll be at Grizzlies preseason home games Oct. 14, 17, and 18.

gotta think of a team name now

chris herrington (chris herrington), Monday, 6 October 2003 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Hubie Ball is on board. Actually, the draft time currently specified is early enough to work for me.

chris herrington (chris herrington), Monday, 6 October 2003 03:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm signed up as 'Bunch o' Jakes'. Let the games begin!

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 6 October 2003 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I am one of us,
team name is "CopelandLumber".
let the phear begin.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 6 October 2003 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Sweet. We're up to 10.

How does this work for people?

Friday, October 17 at 3:30 pm EDT

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

During my dinner?!

Leee (Leee), Monday, 6 October 2003 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i've never done a fantasy league. what's involved?

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Monday, 6 October 2003 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

You draft real live players onto your team, and based on accumulated stats of real live performance, you get certain number of points, team with the most in the end wins.

Someone else can do the smutty response.

Also, I wish there were a fantasy wrestling league.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 6 October 2003 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

3:30 in the afternoon? but im still at work!

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I may or may not be at work, but I've already started reworking the auto lists, so it's cool any which way.

(Some of their rankings are strange, and much as I love Dirk, he's too much of an injury worry for me to take him second overall)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 04:15 (twenty-one years ago)

So... The problem is that all the evening and weekend slots are filled... (I guess Yahoo has a quota on drafts so their servers don't crash or something). 3:30 is about the latest we can do it. I know... it blows.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

3:30 is OK by me. Apparently LeBron threw three no-look passes in his first exhibition game!

Sam, it's pretty easy to learn as you go. The only weird thing is that you "start" more players than actually are on a basketball team, and you have a certain number of starts total to use for the season in each position slot. I can't make it sound sensical but it's actually really easy to learn on the fly. Yahoo has a good tutorial and I learned from scratch last year and came in third in a decently competitive league!

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, there's still plenty of room for more fantasy players... sign up!

The Pistons-Cavs game was pretty sloppy, but, Lebron is for real. Cavs seem like a completely different team with him and Paul Silas on board. I'm not sure if they'll make the playoffs, but they're respectable and way more confident than last year. Lebron will wind up at PG or at least handling the ball quite a lot. He's definitely got that freakish court awareness/ability to make his teammates better as advertised. Darko struggled but had those "flashes" you would expect from an 18-year-old kid who's never played a professional game in the U.S. But he has so much to learn. Rest of the Pistons are pretty banged up and haven't had a chance to learn Larry Brown's offense... I think they might get off to a slow start this season (they were the first team to go 8-0 in the preseason last year).

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

3:30 eastern? I can make it work I guess.

Since this has become a "pre-season observations" thread as well, things I learned from my first pre-season game (Bucks at Grizzlies, aka "Clash of the Titans"):

T.J. Ford is unbelievably fast with the ball in his hands. He was atrocious in the first half but really settled down and played well in the second half. Only took one jumper (which he hit), so who knows about his shooting, and will probably get abused in the post (not an issue matched up with J-Will), but could be a player.

Also, the Grizzlies prospective starting lineup this season -- Williams, Mike Miller, James Posey, Pau Gasol, Stromile Swift -- might be the fastest in the league. I don't think there's another frontcourt tandem in the league that can run the floor with Pau and Stro and Jason Kidd is the only PG better in the open floor than J-Will (don't believe the crap written by national press types who haven't actually seen him play in two years). With Pau and Stro blocking shots and finishing on the other end, Mike Miller handling the ball and knocking down jumpers, James Posey creating steals and filling the lane, and J-Will pushing the ball, this might be the best fast-break offense in the league (outscored Bucks 39-6 on the break), that is, if we can get defensive rebounds, which won't be so easy against teams not based in Milwaukee.

chris herrington (chris herrington), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Leee's NBA Bill Mueller Award (sleeper pick of the year): Troy Murphy. Troy is my boy, hands off!

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

TJ Ford = flashier Eric Snow. In college most of his points came from the free-throw line. The boy can't shoot!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 9 October 2003 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

danny ferry will be my first round pick

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 9 October 2003 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Word on Troy Murphy... he put up great numbers on my fantasy team last year, and now that Jamison and Arenas are gone, he'll prolly have to carry even more of the load. And J-Will had a fantastic second half of last year. Hubie B seemed to have "gotten thru," which is good.

But, man... Kobe Bryant is going to jail. The image of him choking that girl while he raped her is just horrible.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 9 October 2003 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

As much as I hate the Lakers, agreed. The local paper compared him to Tyson in that the guy is almost all alone in this thing.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 10 October 2003 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

The whole Kobe case is going to be really disturbing. I wish he would sit out the season, it's going to be a circus.

J-Will was totally my starting point guard for most of last season. Great sleeper, especially since my other point was Howard Eisley. (ick).

Who's gonna be the biggest headcase this season? I got ten on Ron Artest. I bet he punches Carlisle in the face before the All Star break.

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 10 October 2003 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I just realized I forgot about the cruel joke that is Ricky Davis' mind!

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 10 October 2003 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess during the trial today Kobe's defense were doing over-the-top things like using the accuser's name six times in court (the judge threatened to physically muzzle them), and dropped that she'd supposedly had sex three times in the three days previous to the incident (which is where the lacerations came from). Now, since this was only a preliminary hearing, this says to me that they're being HIGHLY aggressive.... which says to me that they think it's their best chance to get him off the charges, since it looks very, very bleak. He's seriously facing 20 to life. What an assclown.

In more cheerful news, yeah, Ron Artest got a T and then benched in his first game under Carlisle. Hilarious. I geniunely think that he's gonna get shipped out of Indy this year...,

And Mt. Mutombo is gonna be a Knick! I guess Layden figured that Michael Doleac was too mobile. (SNAP!)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 10 October 2003 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess after recreating the 90s Jazz (Eisley, Shandon Anderson)didn't pan out Layden is going to the Nuggets now. I'm sure Bryant Stith is still available.

Saw a bit of the 76ers/Heat game on TNT the other day and Dwayne Wade looked spectacular. Didn't show he could run point (that was more Odom) or shoot with range, but his athleticism was dominant.

The Kobe thing is sad and awful. There was a lot of speculation (and some quasi-reliable scuttle) that he would end up here with Jerry West after opting out of his deal next year. The rape charges and our Posey signing pretty much nipped that pipe dream in the bud. If he stops playing this year and they bring Jordan in that'll be an epic circus.

chris herrington (chris herrington), Friday, 10 October 2003 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

not TNT, NBA-TV

chris herrington (chris herrington), Friday, 10 October 2003 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Now that the Knicks have Mutombo, maybe they can package four or five power forwards together and get...um...someone with some talent. Maybe.

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 10 October 2003 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

He's seriously facing 20 to life.

The possible sentence isn't *that* harsh. I think I read up to 4 years in the pokey, and then 20 years of hard-on probation.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 10 October 2003 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Alright, good call... But, the way Colorado works, he could *theoretically* stay there in prison for life if the parole board wanted him to. And 20 years of probation, complete with plethysmographs sounds fun.

I seriously gotta wonder if he's gonna play this year.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 10 October 2003 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

He definitely shouldn't, the distraction would sink the Lakers... So actually, he should.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 10 October 2003 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, so I'm taking the afternoon off from work to do this draft thang.

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 12 October 2003 04:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Can anyone get the "Test your system" draft dealy to work? It just pops up the "download more java" thing when I do.

Leee (Leee), Sunday, 12 October 2003 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmm it works for me... maybe try downloading the latest version of Java?

That's awesome Phil. The draft itself will prolly only take 45 minutes or so.

Anyone else want to join? There's room for uh several more.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Sunday, 12 October 2003 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

It works for me... Try a different browser... or get workin' on editing that pre-draft list.

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 12 October 2003 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Java test works guut for me. Lee, what browser/OS are you on?

rob geary (rgeary), Sunday, 12 October 2003 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Win98SE, I've tried Opera and IE6 both.

It just sez, "In order to test your settings, please download and install the latest version of the Java Virtual Machine." when I click the test button. And I did download their thing and so I have "Java Web Start" on my desktop now.

Leee (Leee), Sunday, 12 October 2003 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

who's gonna draft kobe?

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 12 October 2003 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, I had no end of problems with java in Win98 too, so you're at the limits of my knowledge there. Can you hop on another machine for the draft?

rob geary (rgeary), Sunday, 12 October 2003 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

So many question marks around Kobe, the least of which is that he now will be sharing the ball with three all-stars. Still- if he goes off again like he did last February, someone could be very happy with him

rob geary (rgeary), Sunday, 12 October 2003 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I've tried it on another machine w/ win98 and IE5, and the same thing happened. Funny thing is, it worked fine during the Baseball draft. I'm probably worrying over nothing.

Leee (Leee), Sunday, 12 October 2003 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

ESPN has their mock draft up. Kobe fell to the second-round, I think.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 12 October 2003 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

argh. i dunno if i can do the live draft or not. i'll know for sure on thursday. (i actually might be working on friday cuz (gasp!) i got a job)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Well congrats on the job!

Sorry again that was the only time we could do the draft.... blame Yahoo.

So, we still gots 10 teams... plenty of room for more. Don't be afraid... basketball is fun for everyone.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 14 October 2003 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah congrats on the job. and uh sorry for that weird drunken friendster message. i cant wait until tomorrow. i'm going to draft only white guys.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 16 October 2003 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

yep, i'm excited. i'm gonna try to put together all the basket-cases!

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 17 October 2003 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

so i ranked my players tonight since i'll miss the draft tomorrow. asians and australians ranked first and second. jews third. then canadians. then white people. then african black people. then african-americans. my team's so gonna rawk!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 17 October 2003 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

and no worries about the friendster message, phil! i just saw it, and yr right!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 17 October 2003 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

wait, there are australians in the nba? who??

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 17 October 2003 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 17 October 2003 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha! I assumed he was French!

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 17 October 2003 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

even after he broke his shoulder surfing?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

The French don't surf?

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 17 October 2003 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

they hang out at the velodrome

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I had no idea Tony Parker was French until deep into the playoffs last season. Somehow that escaped me. He should be forced to spell his name Parquere to make his nationality clear.

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 17 October 2003 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't make the draft but did my own rankings. I've never played traditional rotisserie rules before (my other leagues are points leagues)and was a bit flummoxed by the Yahoo rankings that had guys like Doug Christie, Brent Barry, and Shane Battier in the top 25. I rearranged in a way that's sure to make my team stink.

chris herrington (chris herrington), Friday, 17 October 2003 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Word... those rankings need a bit of re-working.

In case you haven't noticed, I've weighed scoring relatively heavily in the leage (FG%, FG made, and Total Points scored are all catagories). I just figured at the end of the day it's the most important stat and should count more.

See you guys (who can make it) at 3:30!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 17 October 2003 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

oh shit, i didn't nbotice you tinkered with the defaults at all. Ugh, I gotta fix my list now. Ugh, what does that mean for Ben Wallace? Ben I wanted you so badly. Even though you're not white, and I made a rule that only white guys will I be drafting, but I'm only bluffing, do you think anybody is falling for it, but what if for real i drafted only white guys, how do you think that would turn out, a bunch of former yugoslavians and dirk nowitzki and a barry or too, what about light-skinned black guys, do you think they would notice, oh never mind.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

oh i guess its only one more scoring category, its not so bad.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Boo yah! Two and a half to go...who's gonna be there live? Anyone know if there's a chat in the draft app so we can get our Dick Vitale on?

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

ill be there live. i might just toss out a list and wing it.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Phil you jerk forcing me to use my #1 on My boy Troy.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey I didn't know this was going on! I might just do this. I have no idea what I'm doing (okay, I have a little idea) so I'll be winging it too.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be there for
about a half hour and then
must jet, pick up kidz

hoping auto-draft
kicks in nicely after that.
my rule: no lakers

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

how much time is there in between each pick to think?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

90 seconds

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

ouch. i better not wing it then

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Or think fast! I'll be winging it.

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Remember: when deciding between two picks, take the guy with the longer police record.

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

So I'm guessing the whole draft will prolly take an hour or so. Can't wait!

I'm about to do a bit of preranking....

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

xP: You mean a Trailblazer.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

hey us portland fans
take umbrage at that comment
even though it's true

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I still find the "Jailblazers" thing funny. It's funny cuz it's true! On the other hand Damon Stoudamire sulked on the bench for half the season on me last season before I ditched him for H-Bomb Eisley, so F a Trailblazer this year.

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

haha just ranked artest really high, then scrolled up to read earlier comments. You're right but I'm still gonna want him! Good god I'm already really heavy on Pacers, I'm so irrational.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I also may not be able to make it live, probably have a meeting that will interfere. Also I will not be able to handle the pressure!

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey teeny, my suggestion is to draft Chris Mullin. Great 6th man!

Leee (Leee), Friday, 17 October 2003 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

1 hour 15 min to go! Welcome to the league, teeny! May your PFs have double-doubles every night.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 17 October 2003 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

aw, so much good feelings! this won't last.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

So the live draft is open now (half hour to go) and the random draft order is set... I'm last! Can't a commish cut a break?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 17 October 2003 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

everybody say who your teams are!

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't do live draft, my computer isn't set up for it.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

download the latest version of Java, teeny

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 17 October 2003 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

net admin won't let me and I'm off to my meeting now anyway! have fun!

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Good draft everyone who was there live and on autopick... let the bad trades and injuries commence!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 17 October 2003 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

So who was the steal of the draft? I nominate Aaron's one-two with Arenas and Vince Carter drafted back to back. As they say every year, if Vince is healthy, watch out.

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 17 October 2003 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Shareef Abdur-Rahim in the 5th around. Olowokandi in the last round. Does anyone want Brent Barry?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay! I got reggie miller! and artest! It says I'm ranked 1 of 11??

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh. We're all tied at #1 since the season hasn't started yet.

So I guess Vince has only played a 82-game season once in his career. But, yeah, maybe THIS is the year he'll finally stay off the IR.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 17 October 2003 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

How does waivers work?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

oh my god, look at Hubie Ball's team. Pierce, Brand, Webber, Abdur-Rahim, Mashburn, Jamison, Mike Miller, Desmond Mason. My pick to win it all.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

who the hell is everyone????

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

and fuck paul pierce with the bee stick.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm the Danny Ferry Fanclub. I'm going to come in 2nd.. or 3rd..

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

CopelandLumber is me, Matt C., and I will rule you all with an iron fist wrapped in a velvet glove, and the velvet glove is wrapped in bubble-pack, and the bubble-pack is encased in lead. Also, the iron fist is holding a bee stick, at the end of which--as we have seen--can be found the anus of Paul Pierce.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Copeland Lumber was the company that sponsored my Little League team when I was in 4th grade in Portland, Oregon. I was a catcher, first baseman, middle relief pitcher, and trash-talkin' right fielder. Plus, I couldn't hit. But I stole home like 19 times.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I KNEW there was going to be a precious story behind that name! Also I hope I am making everyone giggle with my team name 'teenyball.'

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

That'd be a great baseball name teeny.

I'm Mully's Mullets, even though he hasn't sported that look for 15 years.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

doesn't bubba sparxxx
talk about "teenyballs" on
his newest record?

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I just emailed my mom my picks and she said she wouldn't pick anyone west of minnesota. Well she said that after she said she'd rank her players on the basis of cuteness.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

jesus christ my team looks great. THANK YOU AUTODRAFT

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm starting three cleveland cavaliers -> i will win it all

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

aaron's team has non-pistons, phil's team has non-bulls -> you are sellouts

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

yancey what the fuck is your team? Do you have LeBron?

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i'm the zambonies. i love that autodraft made me pick carmelo with my second pick!

(and why the fuck was shawn marion the #1 ranked player by yahoo? boy's got an ugly-ass shot (that, admittedly, miraculously falls pretty regularly))

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

my team has two Bucks,
two current and two former
Trailblazers--I'll ROOL

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I have only 1 foreigner*, GOB BLEESS AMERIKA.

*Canada is not foreign.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Shawn Marion is #1 by Yahoo's bizarro ranking system because he puts up decent points and rebounds, plus he bags a three, a block, and two steals a game, all of which are fairly hard to come by in the same player!

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 17 October 2003 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

So when are the crazy trades going to start happenning?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Phil, Ray Ray for Mike 'Intangibles' Dunleavy.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 17 October 2003 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

teeny, "teenyball" is an adorable team name. your guys should all have to wear sparkly headbands or something.

rob geary (rgeary), Friday, 17 October 2003 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Throw in Troy, and its a done deal.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 17 October 2003 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm Hubie Ball.

Hey Phil -- Does Brent Barry qualify at PG? If so, I'm interested. The only point I got on the autodraft is T.J. Ford. Interested in Vlad Rad or Keon Clark?

chris herrington (chris herrington), Friday, 17 October 2003 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I have 3 PGs. But good luck prying BOYkins from my team!

Seriously, Vlad piques me.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 17 October 2003 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I totally forgot the draft was today

cinniblount (James Blount), Saturday, 18 October 2003 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no Blount!

rob geary (rgeary), Saturday, 18 October 2003 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah but blount your team
didn't turn out bad at all
with shawn marion,

battier will put
up good numbers on most nights--
just pick some dudes up

I'd take Ridnour
and some of those others off
the "pick a player"

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 18 October 2003 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh, I was moving all day.

Kidd, Baron Davis, Stephon Marbury, Nick the Quick, Howard Eisley and Tony Delk, yikes.

It's punishment for being a Nellyball fan, I swear to God.

(speaking of - who has Nash-ty and Dirk? We must talk trade.)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 18 October 2003 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't ask me why I was on this webpage or why I think it's funny, but I find it hilarious that Pat Garrity is the secretary and treasurer for the NBA Player's Assoc.

http://www.nbpa.com/aboutus/committee.html

Aaron W (Aaron W), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

He's the token white guy too!

Um...why were you on that webpage Aaron?

rob geary (rgeary), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Pat Garrity also:
-strongly resembles one of my college roommates in some photos
-sucks

rob geary (rgeary), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Milo, I think autodraft was maybe worried you wouldn't have enough point guards to survive nuclear winter. You should be all set.

rob geary (rgeary), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

We may not get within 10 feet of the lane, but we'll kick your ass from outside!

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 18 October 2003 05:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I tired of my old team name (it was from last year) and have now dubbed my loveable bunch of losers The Philosopher-Kings.

rob geary (rgeary), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I got Nash, but I'm keeping him around because of all the hot gurls he attracts. Tail by association!

Leee (Leee), Saturday, 18 October 2003 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

aaron's gonna win. that fucker.

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 19 October 2003 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw thanks Phil. But I see myself in that mid-table range unless a lot of my players have amazing years.

But... wtf are Cuban and the Nelsons thinking by getting Fatoine Walker? So they basically have 5 players who are 100% offense, no rebounding or D. Insane.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1642156

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 20 October 2003 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Whatever they want to say, I think the primary idea was dumping LaFrentz's $60mln/6yrs. This may not be a great deal or a championship winner for the Mavs, but dumping LaFrentz for anyone with two legs = classic.

Noted in some places online - Juwan Howard to Denver has netted them Tony Delk, Antoine Walker and Antwan Jamison. Not bad.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh Boston! The despair. Like what that team really needs is another underachieving big man with an immense contract. Spectacular. I'm sure Raef will shine there and I know Antoine "The Only Rump In the NBA Bigger Than Mine" Walker would be a fourth option on most Western conference teams...but jeez, Raef Lafrentz? Argh

rob geary (rgeary), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Three pointers away!!

rob geary (rgeary), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Mavs are gonna average like 150 a game!

rob geary (rgeary), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going to kick so much ass in ESPN Basketball (formerly NBA 2k) with this lineup.

Nash PG
Finley SG
Jamison SF
Walker PF
Dirk C

A bad idea in real-life (I love Dirk, but the dude is a little fragile to be bangin'), unbelievable in Video Game Reality.

(Note: I fully understand that my Mavs allegiance made for a semi-imbalanced trade in Yahoo... but I'm not too sure about Nick's attitude - and health, surgery ahoy - and think Antawn will play more than Nick did last year, jacking up points in clutch-time. Phil, Baron Davis is still on the block, yo)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

baron davis? who he? [sssshhhhh... i'll email you. dont tell nobody though]

and i still can't believe hubie ball managed to dump antawn jamison, at a bargain too!

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

how was i able to nab derrick coleman and scottie pippen off of waivers???

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

If this were a league where stats are cumlative, like the other leagues I'm in, I'd be arrogant and say I'm already getting my championship rings sized, but since I've never played traditional roto before I dunno -- never had to think about field-goal percentage or having enough blocks or stuff like that.

Incidentally, I may have suffered a blow in a recent preseason game when Steven Hunter's teeth attacked Mike Miller's elbow during a scrum for a rebound. Miller's elbow is infected and he's out for a week getting pumped with antibiotics. Does Steven Hunter have rabies?

chris herrington (chris herrington), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

can someone explain to me how the positions work? If I just happen to like a lot of guys who are forwards, can I have a ton of forwards on my team?

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 23 October 2003 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Depends. You can only play guys at the positions they're listed for:

PG - PG or G
SG - SG or G
G - SG/PG/G
etc.

If you didn't have a true center, you could play three forwards (SF/PF/F), two FCs in the Center spots, and your utility players (two? or is it three) could be forwards.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 23 October 2003 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

click next to their name;
the box to the right will list
where you can play them

go mixing/matching;
use yr PF, SF, F,
Util slots wisely!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 23 October 2003 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

regular season begins tonight!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I am Too Damn Hyped!
Watch my Blazers (dissed by all)
shock the Whole Damn World!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm unbelievably geeked for this season, but I think the thing that excites me most is NEXT SEASON when Kobe Bryant, in a different uniform, drives baseline against the Lakers for the first time and Shaq rotates over. It'll be better than Slam Ball.

chris herrington (chris herrington), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

From jail?

rob geary (rgeary), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I love how no two analysts seem to agree on the new-look Mavs. Chad Ford has them winning the West during the regular season, I've seen some that drop them to five or six.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

First shot by Fatoine in a Mavs uniform? Flinging a brick of a three pointer that almost missed the backboard. Mavs looked pretty awful during the first quarter against the Lakers who, goddammit, look pretty good. Payton and Malone are the key.

It's gonna be a pretty wild year in the League I think... lot of transition and some fairly ugly play at times. The team that wins it will be the one that can get their act together the most solid (and of course avoid injuries... I'm looking at you Twolves).

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Either Antoine or Antawn will be gone in a trade by ~30 games in, I bet.

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

If only because it must be mad confusing for Don Nelson

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn, I should have played Jamison. I wanted to see how much playing time he'd get.

Nowitzki's rocking the stormtrooper-look again. German guys really shouldn't shave their heads. And we'll never get photos the likes of these again:

http://sportsbybrooks.com/sportsbybrooks.jpg

No cocaine, no mink coats, no strippers, just two wacky furriners at a Fort Worth bar. God bless 'em.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 06:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Those photos never stop being funny!

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 06:48 (twenty-one years ago)

They're getting invited to the Metroplex FAP, seems they'd fit right in.

Wait, is Dirk really sitting on Nash's lap? It gets funnier!

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 06:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Middle = funniest picture ever

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

They're going to star in the next Bill & Ted movie. I mean, Dirk & Steve just sounds funny.

dleone (dleone), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

boo-yah! how ya like artest now!

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 30 October 2003 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, teeny! go ron!
I have jermaine o'neil so
good for goose, gander

(artest's big meltdown,
along with jermaine's sulking,
will bring us both low)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 30 October 2003 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

OOF! The Bulls looked awful! I think I made a big mistake by investing so much on Crawford/Curry......

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Prediction: Mavs trade either Jamison or Walker by January - and it isn't going to be Walker.

dleone (dleone), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, I just made that prediction about 15 posts up!

rob geary (rgeary), Thursday, 30 October 2003 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Ugh, good job Odom. Sprained ankle in the first quarter of the first game. Is he made out of paper mache or what?

rob geary (rgeary), Thursday, 30 October 2003 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh, probably not, since if he was he'd probably roll himself up and smoke himself.

rob geary (rgeary), Thursday, 30 October 2003 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah but I narrowed it down, rob geary. Also, this probably slipped under everyone's radar I'm sure, but Lebron James: not that bad.

dleone (dleone), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Rashard Lewis! 50 points! In Japan!

rob geary (rgeary), Saturday, 1 November 2003 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

"you know it" say I,
manager of Rashard L.,
grinning and gloating

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 1 November 2003 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Blegh, the Bulls still suck!!!

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 2 November 2003 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Mike Dunleavy Jr. scored 32 points... the universe must be about to end.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Sunday, 2 November 2003 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

he's 0-7 tonite so far though... :(

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 3 November 2003 03:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a moron. I benched Dampier because I figured Shaq and Malone would shut him down completely. 23 rebounds, 14 points.

ARGHHHH.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 3 November 2003 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm working under the philosophy that you lose more by micromanaging your team and second-guessing yourself than you do by just picking a bunch of good prospects and sticking with them. It works for the stock market, right?

teeny (teeny), Monday, 3 November 2003 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

ugh, we're all getting spanked by Aaron. Does someone want to trade someone to me who hits a lot of FT's at a high percentage, and who doesn't turn the ball over?

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 3 November 2003 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Phil, check your email! (i.e. STACK TO THE RESCUE)

Leee (Leee), Monday, 3 November 2003 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I hear you Teeny, but you have to have good prospects first. I've rejects and throways at the 3-4-5.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

How weak is this score?

Denver 60
Indiana 71

Both teams shot around 35%. Weak!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

My bad... Denver shot 29%. WEAK!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll see you that and add

Miami 73
San Antonio 80

Both shooting around 35% as well! Wick-wick wack

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

and is it just me or are there a whole lot of fairly serious injuries for this early in the season?

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)

For real. And unfortunately the Lakers are looking like they are by far the best team in the league.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Woop woop!

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

poor leeeee! ray-ray, troy, and stackhouse out w/ injuries!

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 05:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll trade Nene and a player to be named for more pity.

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 06:03 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I'm so loaded up with Pacers that I fall to the bottom of the standings when they don't play (but then rocket when they do)!

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

can I just say here that the Bucks are very good, maybe playoff-bound? they scared the Lakers, turned around and beat the Knicks in Madison Square; not just Michael Redd, either--Tim Thomas is tough, Santiago's fair....

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 6 November 2003 03:43 (twenty-one years ago)

shaq. you're killin' me with your 32% FT shooting!

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 6 November 2003 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone have Cliff "Family" Robinson?

L(E^24) (Leee), Thursday, 6 November 2003 06:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Uncle Spliffy!

Okay... The Pistons are winning the Eastern Conf. and going to the NBA Finals (no predictions beyond that though). The glimpses they've shown in the first four games have been amazing, and they are bar none the deepest team in the league. The only thing that will get in their way is a major injury. The way they beat Boston tonight was just killer. Larry Brown actually has them RUNNING this year (the most painful thing about the Carlisle/O'Neill two years was that even when they rebounded they HAD to go into the half court).

I agree about the Bucks. I thought they'd be lottery bound but they've got a ton of athleticism and speed and credit Terry Porter for getting them to play good bball. I'd be really impressed with at 6-8 seed. The Magic suck. Lakers are still looking WAY too good. I hope they lose a game one of these days.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 6 November 2003 06:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, and that Nuggets/Cavs game = Junior Varsity teams... Forced shot, rebound, break, missed layup, break, turnover, forced shot, turnover, etc. etc.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 6 November 2003 06:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh I bench Gasol and he comes alive

rob geary (rgeary), Thursday, 6 November 2003 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

DOUBLE ARGH so does Houston! Thanks for shooting like two percent then blazing the Bucks for 35!

rob geary (rgeary), Thursday, 6 November 2003 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

teeny's management style proven correct again

rob geary (rgeary), Thursday, 6 November 2003 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree. I sat
Manu Ginobli tonight,
and he's EN FUEGO

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 7 November 2003 05:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Second guessing & overmanagement is good... for me! (In 9th place!)

L(E^24) (Leee), Friday, 7 November 2003 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh man, I benched Artest and he went off for 21 points! OH WAIT NO I DIDN'T BOO-YAH!

teeny (teeny), Friday, 7 November 2003 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Too bad this isn't a keeper league, I'd be tempted to sell off some of my guards for young forwards. Unless Raef LaFrentz becomes one of those top-3 centers in the East a few (morons) were predicting, I'm fuXored.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 7 November 2003 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

can steve francis please stop dribbling the ball off his foot? his turnovers are killin' me. btw, anyone want glenn robinson?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 7 November 2003 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I just wish Ray "GG" Allen or "Helen of" Troy Murphy would get healthy.

L(E^24) (Leee), Friday, 7 November 2003 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

doesnt anyone want big dog? cmon you people who need points and FGM.

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 8 November 2003 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i need REBOUNDS if i'm going to break this tie with TEENY. c'mon Marcus Camby, do yr thing...

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 10 November 2003 03:32 (twenty-one years ago)

come on you fuckers. stop turning the ball over.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 10 November 2003 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Though I'd never wish ill on a person, if Ray Allen wants to take an extra couple of months off, that'd be OK. Ronald Murray is my only decent 2, unless Bobby Jackson catches fire and gets more minutes.

(I'll trade ya Allen for Bobby Jackson or Tyronn Lue, Lee.)

Stephon Marbury is on the block for a good F or C, high FG%/FT% a priority.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 10 November 2003 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

why would anyone
give up a big man like that?
milo that's MADNESS

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 10 November 2003 03:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, yeah. But it's worth a shot. Anything's worth a shot at this point.

I've got three all-star PGs and not a damn thing else (Raef LaFrentz has managed to become even more useless in Boston than he was in Dallas. That's some kind of anti-miracle.)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 10 November 2003 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

good old raef

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 10 November 2003 04:40 (twenty-one years ago)

yao for stephon?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 10 November 2003 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Raef is a huge waste of potential. Best case scenario, he should be a tougher Nowitzki, but there's something about him that just screams "loser".

In other news, Antoine Walker had 7 turnovers in the game against Miami last week - IN THE FIRST HALF.

dleone (dleone), Monday, 10 November 2003 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

never trust a jayhawk!

teeny (teeny), Monday, 10 November 2003 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The Mavs-Celtics trade has managed to be terrible for both teams. You don't see that every day.

Of course, it has been less than a month - maybe Raef will catch on, and Walker will heat up. But I liked my Big Three+Two Bums. They were fun to watch, even if a championship was out of the question.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man, i really could have used Quentin Richardson's 32pts and 16rebs.... doesn't anyone want to trade for Glenn Robinson?

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Ronald Murray lights 'em up again. Yay Ronald!

I'm interested G-Rob, but I don't want to insult you with what I could offer (T Lue, Raef, Bobby Jackson)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope stackho stays injured forever!

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

because jarvis hayes looks like rookie of the year right now

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

shit i know i should have drafted zach randolph instead of dwayne wade

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

lamar odom is up for grabs, especially if i can get a 3pt shooter. i can't keep keep looking at miami's games, it's like seeing someone you know get mugged. depressing

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:19 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah right now randolph looks like the steal of the draft. haikunym grabbed him in the next-to-last round!

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i have dropped five out of my 13 draft picks. can anyone top that?

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Baron Davis has hit more 3s than free throws.

That's fucked up.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:23 (twenty-one years ago)

plus his first name is baron

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:24 (twenty-one years ago)

when, if ever, is antion mcdyess gonna play again?? i need the rebs and blocks

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:26 (twenty-one years ago)

antonio.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Anticon McDyess

Leee Majors (Leee), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I offered The Baron to Phil-two for Peja, but chickened out before he saw it (I think)(or maybe he just let me down gently, rather than outright rejection)(*sniff*).

I am so basketball inept. I've only been paying attention for a season and a half, and my three favorite players are three-point shooting crackers (Nash, Dirk, Peja).

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Raef is a huge waste of potential. Best case scenario, he should be a tougher Nowitzki, but there's something about him that just screams "loser".

There's something about Nowitzki right now that screams "loser" too, the slack motherfucker. Any interesting trade offers?

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

*twitch*

I know he's not having a great season (who's the poor bastard who drafted Finley - though he caught on for 20-6-5 tonight) but it's DIRK.

Baron Davis? Best offense in the leagure!

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i was really thinking about the peja for baron trade, but i couldn't make up my mind. my FG and FT% and TOs would take a huge hit - though im gonna come near last in FT% and TOs anyways...... but gee, i could use the steals... owell.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Me, and I left him and Nash on the bench. Oh well, there's always Katie Holmes.

Poor Bastard (Leee), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

peja is like the superstar i never noticed!

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

the only trade so far has been the van exel-for-jamison hooey. where are the blockbusters, people?

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll do blockbuster trades only if I can get all the Warriors onto my roster.

Leee Majors (Leee), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Dunleavy for Ray Ray!

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Done!

Leee Majors (Leee), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got a soft spot for Peja 'cuz he's the greatest videogame player EVAH. (NBA 2k/ESPN NBA series)

And I'm not sure I didn't do OK in Nick for 'Tawn, at least for now. And I had to get rid of one of the seven points I got stuck with.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Who's next?

Leee Majors (Leee), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i kinda like my team though

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Unfortunately, the only Warrior I've got is Erick Dampier, who's been a wonderful surprise.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah, can i get him off u?

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Kurt Thomas is a wonderful surprise too.

Leee Majors (Leee), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Dampier's the only untradeable guy right now. I figure he accounts for about half of my rebounds and blocks.

And he spells his name with a k. Right on.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

You could just as well be talking about Kurt Thomas.

Leee Majors (Leee), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i love guys who are block monsters. aaron is going to eventually run away with that category though, since he has last season's #1 and #2 blockers. ratliff is averaging nearly 5 blocks a game at the moment. five!!

rob geary (rgeary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I have made Lee an offer he can't refuse.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

haikunym grabbed him in the next-to-last round!

is that true? no way--
he was part of my whole steez;
Kukoc was my last....

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Leee sleeps with the fishes.

Leee Brasi (Leee), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

is that true? no way--
he was part of my whole steez;
Kukoc was my last....

it's true! next to last. kukoc was yr last pick, randolph next to last. i picked two injured timberwolves and alvin "sub-CBA" williams in the three rounds previous to that point. i think i was eating a dumb sandwich or something.

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 13 November 2003 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I just picked up Bonzi Wells on waivers. If he can get his head on straight, this might be a steal, and a good replacement for Murray when RayRay comes back.

If not, just another nail in my coffin.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 16 November 2003 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

So my Yahoo Public League team is infruating me at the moment... Listen to this lineup:

Arenas
Redd
Kidd (who I just traded Yao and Ginobili for... which I know is lopsided but I figure Ginobili will fade now that Parker's back & I need Kidd's assists & steals)
Rip Hamilton
Amare Stoudamire
Vince Carter
Duncan
Eddy Curry
Ilguakus
Carmelo
with Jim Jackson and Antonio Davis on the bench

So I've scored like 240 more points than the second place team, and am #1 in rebounds and blocks... but my assists, steals, FG% and TOs are KILLING me. Bah! I thought I'd run away with that league.

Pistons finally won one on their West Coast trip... they always stink up the place when they head out there. At least this is the only one of the season.

And... er... how about them Rockets and Sonics? Early season surprises! I guess the Hornets aren't really a surprise, but I bet that Tim Floyd has more wins this season than he did the entire time he was in Chicago.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Sunday, 16 November 2003 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

wtf - how did you manage to draft a team like that? i think you should trade away redd or vince carter

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 16 November 2003 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

new orleans is definitely still a surprise given that mashburn is still injured. baron is one of the best players in the league right now, he's leading the league in assists per game and near the top in 3ptrs and scoring. that's bananas, i don't think anyone predicted that.

rockets were pretty consistently underestimated. everyone tried their best to come up with a reason why they wouldn't be good (yao is tired, franchise wouldn't pass, etc) but they have great players and a great coach. no surprise there. plus new uniforms which as a rule means you either become great or sink to the bottom.

on that note: orlando, my god. the state of florida is 3-16 right now.

aaron, was the rest of the league asleep during that draft or what? i have a bunch of the same guys in a head to head leauge:
gary payton
paul pierce
sam cassell
rip hamilton
amare stoudamire
zach randolph
z ilgauskas
theo ratliff
mike bibby
eddy curry
tayshaun prince
yao ming
mike james
caron butler

and i keep getting whacked in 3pointers, %ages, and turnovers. my frontcourt is stacked like crazy, though.

rgeary (rgeary), Sunday, 16 November 2003 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

and i had gasol, but dealt him for hamilton, which in retrospect wasn't terribly smart, but not a tragedy.

rgeary (rgeary), Sunday, 16 November 2003 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

My backcourt is my entire team:

B Davis
J Kidd
S Marbury
R Murray
B Wells
T Lue - bench

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 16 November 2003 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Pistons downed the Lakers! If Jess Kersey wouldn't have blown the FUCKING whistle every time a Piston breathed on Kobe, they would've won by 20.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

grrrr billups burns the lakers again. didn't phil jackson say "it was billups everywhere. he made me want to throw up" last year after the lakers got chauncey'd?

rgeary (rgeary), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 05:14 (twenty-one years ago)

not one of my players has gotten injured yet. I'm so waiting for the shoe to drop, esp since I've got Reggie Miller.

what's your beef with kobe?

who's got Vinnie Baker?

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

no beef with kobe, other than me hating him forevah. but a friend of mine is a sportswriter for the ny post, and he said if i came up with a sign to let him know and he'd make sure the post photographers took pics of me. my goal -> to make the cover of tomorrow's ny post.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Good thing Ronald Murray keeps lighting it up for me.

man, haiku is spanking us all.
yeah, that lead looks kind of terrifying at the moment. it's still early but my team is clearly not going to get any better, unless brad miller decides he wants to spend the rest of the season hoisting up 3-pointers.

manu's breakout season is clearly not hurting you there, haikunym!

all is forgiven for your ilgauskas joke upthread, however.

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 20 November 2003 07:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, Bill Cartwright and Alonzo Mourning are done.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 28 November 2003 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I also posted this on the league forum, but I'll ask it here anyway: my daughter Emma wants to join with a team, even though she knows that she'll be in last place for realz. If anyone objects, she understands and won't play. (Issues of depleting available player pool, etc. Or, if you just hate kids.) If more than five people say "yes," I'll assume it's a go.

Please reply to this thread or on the league forum by Sunday night. Thanks.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 29 November 2003 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no problem with it, will be nice to have another girl in the league. Will you be able to protect her from our rampant vulgarity though?

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 29 November 2003 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I wouldn't let
her anywhere near this board.
But our league ain't bad.

okay that's one vote;
where is everyone else?
sleeping? hung over?

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 29 November 2003 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

(Both)

Sure, I'm cool with it. Someone to, you know, be worse than my team eventually will be.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 29 November 2003 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Is she taking over yr team or are we "adding" her? Cuz I'm afraid that Yahoo won't let us add a new team after the draft.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Saturday, 29 November 2003 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

yes you are correct
I misread the instructions
man will she be pissed

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 29 November 2003 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I would give her my team except that my Yahoo mail is the same account as the fantasy team.

Leee Majors (Leee), Sunday, 30 November 2003 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Sunday, 30 November 2003 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

As if my team wasn't in trouble already? :)

And we welcome her to the league! New blood hoorah!

Leee Majors (Leee), Sunday, 30 November 2003 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
Can anyone catch Haikunym? Who knew having no less than FOUR Blazers on your squad was a ticket to a dominating 90 points?

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 18 December 2003 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Also: poor Paul Pierce. He's trying to drag the Celts back to the playoffs again and Danny Ainge is gutting the team right under him. Good thing there was really nothing to gut, Tony Battie might have been a workable center in the East but he'd be a third string PF in the West. Hopefully Ricky Davis will learn that there's no "Ricky" in "Team," but I doubt it.

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 18 December 2003 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The East is so damn weak though, a backcourt of The Truth and the Malcontent, plus whoever up front, plus Vin Baker provided his friends Johnny and Jack don't show up, could really be a playoff contender! It'd be fun to watch them get smashed by the Pacers.

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 18 December 2003 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

rob I'm very much
vulnerable, what with the
decline of Manu

and Rasheed's fated
implosion (until he gets
traded to G.State)

and Michael Redd is
shooting like .089...
so I'm sweating LOTS

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 18 December 2003 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Haikunym, this is the first I've heard of a trade between GS and the Blazers. Much as it used to be, the Warriors are no longer the land of exiles!

Also, ts: Corie Blount vs. JBlount

Leee Iacocca (Leee), Friday, 19 December 2003 06:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark Blount!

everyone with the last name blount should be forced to go to the blazers

and drop the "o"

rgeary (rgeary), Friday, 19 December 2003 07:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay Josh Howard, I got another Mav! (since I'm rapidly sinking to the bottom anyhow)

Four all-stars, one near-all-star (Jamison), Howard playing great, and yet not playing well and fading near the end of every game.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 19 December 2003 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi. I know nothing about the NBA. but I'd like to go and see the Warriors. What should I expect?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 December 2003 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Should be fairly easy to get seats, depending on who the W's play. The influx of new players means a new game philosophy -- gone is last year's uptempo high scoring offense, replaced by a more hardnosed defense. I *might* want to check out a game or two, actually.

Leee Marvin (Leee), Monday, 22 December 2003 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 24 December 2003 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

part of it teeny

My beloved Manute's Bols seem to have hit their glass ceiling. No more upside! Time to shake things up. Only two more weeks to make trades! Let's get busy!

francis (droidboy), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I bet Rasheed gets traded on Feb 22nd at midnight or whatever the trade deadline is. Since everyone knows he's being shopped, it's to Portland's advantage to sit on him for now.

francis (droidboy), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

No All Star game for Lebron!

francis (droidboy), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm afraid I stopped paying attention to our fantasy league. I'm reaching Bud Selig commish failure status.

Jamal Magliore... All Star. Has a nice ring! Are there really NO centers in the East -- I mean Ben Wallace is technically a center.

I think that unless Portland gets a can't-pass-up trade offer, they keep Rasheed for the rest of the year, let him walk, and use all that cap room to build for the future and resign players (Darius is looking rejuvinated).

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 05:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Leee Majors (Leee), Monday, 23 February 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

He chucked that ball pretty hard in the highlight reels, so it's not loss of muscle tone. His throwing is as good as McGrady's kicking!

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 23 February 2004 06:13 (twenty-one years ago)

One more question: how could a guy who came out a Dean Smith program be such a headcase? Or am I overestimating DS here?

people like Leee = y'know... whitey (Leee), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 07:28 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, I'm not bragging, I'm just saying: Mark Blount is a MONSTER. His line so far tonight against Orlando: 28 points, 21 boards, and there's still 6 minutes left in the game. He's been doing this pretty regularly lately. This, of course, is only because he's getting all the points that Mike James used to get before he became Chauncey's backup...still, though! Blount Is Fantasy Gold!

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 11 March 2004 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
Is anyone still paying attention to this?

The Manute Bols and No Fear No Die are tied with 87.5pts with 2 games left!
Meanwhile, I'm in the lead for the coveted 4th place.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 12 April 2004 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

4th, not 1st, thanks to Shaq clanging his FTs and Steve Francis with his 300 turnovers.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 12 April 2004 05:36 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah muhfuhhuh! i've been chasing haikunym for months. i'm freaking giddy.

rgeary (rgeary), Monday, 12 April 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

MANUTES BOLS 4EVA I LOVE YOU STEPHEN JACKSON AND JAMES POSEY

rgeary (rgeary), Monday, 12 April 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

You have me to thank, I overcame like 100 assist deficit to take that point away from NFND!

Leee O'Gaddy (Leee), Monday, 12 April 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

argh, was zach randolph the steal of the draft or what... 2nd to last round. fucker

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 12 April 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I never overcame the all-PG autodraft, though I did screw someone on the Antawn Jamison-Nick Van Exel trade.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 12 April 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd just like to say one thing here: what the hell is wrong with you Chauncey Billups getting hurt just when I needed you most and Rasheed with the bruised knee and Zach never really overcoming the loss of 'Sheed and Manu taking three months off and don't think that losing T.J. Ford didn't screw me on the assists either. There, I said it.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 12 April 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

season ending cliffhangers! will manute's bols hold their 1/2 pt lead over NO FEAR NO DIE NO WIN? will phil-two's post to the league board on leeee's meteoric rise to 4th go down as the most succinct, mamet-ian expression of league disbelief ever? (and i quote "wtf")

all will be answered soon. who knew waiting for a server to compile data could be so nerve wracking.

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:21 (twenty-one years ago)

also in real b-ball: kobe "drama queen" bryant with multiple threes to give LA the pacific division win. over b2d's poor blazers!

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:22 (twenty-one years ago)

omg, watch ray allen score 300 points and get 80 steals and a couple hundred blocks and watch leeee take 4th place away from me. that fucker

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha I'd need more than 300/80 to get to 4th, but I'm the one who cost B2D the champeenship!

Leee O'Gaddy (Leee), Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

hi fives!

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

you misunderestimated me obviously

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ugh, all i know is that next year im staying as far away from shaq & steve francis as possible

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:41 (twenty-one years ago)

And I'm not going to pick Troy Murphy in the third round anymore.

Leee O'Gaddy (Leee), Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:44 (twenty-one years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 15 April 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 15 April 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay congrats! I stopped paying attention when it was clear I wasn't going anywhere.... I think AI stayed my starting PG.

Gonna start an NBA Playoffs thread now.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

woo hoo! thanks. i've overturned my own car and i'm setting my trash can on fire to celebrate. special shout out to no fear no die for having 1st place on lock for the vast majority of the season. oh and teeny for all-pacers-all-the-time!

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah I've already given you too many props rob but good job. screw you to all my big scorers who faded in the clutch and/or got hurt and rested themselves for the playoffs. fuck you ray allen for getting good again and relegating rashard "50 in the first game" lewis to towel-boy. fuck me for giving geary james posey. fuck the blazers, and fuck the bucks for folding after t.j. ford got hurt, and fuck you kobe for just being a prick.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

haha!

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i was all about the swingmen nobody else wanted: stephen jackson and joe johnson both went undrafted, posey got dropped, darius miles was ignored in the late going when he actually figured out that he has talent.
