Replace "watch tv" with "putz around online" and you've got yourself a plan!

Chris P (Chris P), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

My friends all went out to a party tonight so I'm here listening to matt pond and Syd Barrett and T Rex and eating the all-dressed chips and drinking Coke and AIM chatting. I know how to live!

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:23 (twenty-two years ago)

yes you do!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i have recently discovered the joys of time-warner cable's hbo/cinemax/tmc on demand feature. what with that and the dsl, my social life is pretty much over.

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i might watch the music channel later

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going out! But then I never do anymore, so it holds out the hope of some diversion. Di you have cool 45s. I wish I had that Exile one myself! Do you have any Sparks?

Sean (Sean), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 04:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Lady Ms. Lurex! I did go out tonight, and on the jukebox played T.Rex's "Ride a White Swan" in your honor! And shortly afterwards started chatting with a guy who seemed besotted with me!

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 18 October 2003 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm old before my time.

Is that statement relevant to this thread?

adaml (adaml), Saturday, 18 October 2003 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Nyet

oops (Oops), Saturday, 18 October 2003 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

j.lu!!!! thanks for thinking of me :-D. was the guy cute and did you get his number? and who wouldn't be besotted with you?

"moonlight shadow", god that guitar solo is so orgasmic i am going to have to listen to it again. man i miss being a kid in the 80s.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 05:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm no longer wearing pants.

This statement is relevant to this thread.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 18 October 2003 05:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Saturday, 18 October 2003 05:07 (twenty-two years ago)

THE NIGHT WAS HEAVY AND THE AIR WAS ALIVE, BUT SHE COULDN'T FIND HOW TO PUSH THROUGH!!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Tonight I watched Raising Victor Vargas and used our new foot spa. I think it's time for a good book, but I better put the heating on first.

adaml (adaml), Saturday, 18 October 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

adaml (adaml), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:04 (twenty-two years ago)

:-D feel the four tops/oakey & moroder LOVE!!! wish i had some other 45s by them, namely "baby i need your loving" and "i can't help myself". levi stubbs is the grebtest male vocalist ever!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

You OTM.

adaml (adaml), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:11 (twenty-two years ago)

It is 2:27 in the morning.

My mother has just come home from visiting with her favorite cousin.

I have been, up until now, waiting up for her, while still dressed in the same clothing I'd worn all day today.

I have just taken off my shoes and jewelry and changed into a light nightgown.

I feel like the mother of a teenager.

But I've listened to music, too.

"Sierra Leone" = one of the best songs of the '80s, bar none.

Now I think I'll be getting to bed.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Di, I wish I were partying with you.

Instead, I am still awake, despite trying to go to sleep hours ago. Despite having to get up in a few hours to work. Bleh. Ah well.

I! I live among the creatures of the night!

Chris P (Chris P), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:40 (twenty-two years ago)

dee every time you rave about sierra leone i feel like doing backflips. however i am not an acrobat. did you know its rainy's favourite song of the 80s, too? and you know i'll come running to you, if you want me if you want me to. if you want me, i'll come running, come running, come running to you.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:44 (twenty-two years ago)

chris i am going to search out my other ms branigan singles right this instant. i hope you can get to sleep, have you tried wanking? you don't have to answer that if you don't want to.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I quit my second job tonight. I might be having more nights like this in the very near future.

(althougth the going out wasting money never has anything to do with getting laid. . . just letting off steam/relaxing.)

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"i hope you can get to sleep, have you tried wanking?"

This is hilarious to me when read as two separate thoughts, arbitrarily joined by a comma.

rob geary (rgeary), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:50 (twenty-two years ago)

laura branigan - solitaire

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:53 (twenty-two years ago)

di's house is the place to be, that's for sure

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i have some laura branigan 45s here, maybe i should plug my stereo's speakers in

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i haven't even played "summer of 69" yet!! (xpost)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 06:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Laura Branigan's "Glora" is the clearest example of the 80s belief that you could rock out by turning the synthesizers up to 11. (Also about some of the psychoanalysis-heavy lyric trends in the mid-80s...)

Chris P (Chris P), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:00 (twenty-two years ago)

GET TO BED CHRIS! GET TO BED ME!

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Bryan, I didn't know you cared!

Chris P (Chris P), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course I do, I think!

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:06 (twenty-two years ago)

(Anyway technically I'm in bed and have been so for hours. Fat lot of good it's done me.)

(My problem is that I went back to working on the stuff I need to present tomorrow, which got my brain going again, which led to me thinking about other things, and now I'm all not ready to sleep. Despite being tired. Also the sooner I sleep the sooner I wake up and have to go to work. Bleh!)

Chris P (Chris P), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, at this point it would be too taxing to explain my so-called joke.

I haven't got the will to try and fight!

Chris P (Chris P), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Welcome to my world. Why did I take another job that requires I be at work by 8? NO ONE should have to work that early.

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:09 (twenty-two years ago)

the fun never stops here!

the divinyls - pleasure and pain
bobby pickett - monster mash
tom petty - refugee

can we have a dance off?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:27 (twenty-two years ago)

cos that'd make it more like an 80s movie.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:28 (twenty-two years ago)

absolutely. but be prepared, as when it comes to cutting rug i am edward scissorhands

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

(i'm suddenly aware of how daft that post sounds)

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought it was quite funny. I may even want to use it myself.

Born To Be Alive is the greatest, the most profound, of all the disco songs.

Lurex, I was wondering, are these all singles you're playing? Or compilations you've put together? Also, may I make a request? Soft Cell's 'Bedsitter'.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:32 (twenty-two years ago)

hahahahaha pah-lease. i am gonna mash-potato you to a pulp.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

You went out and bought five singles every weekend from 1980 to about 1987. And now you have a goldmine.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

colin, i also have "goldmine" by the pointer sisters.

i think "oh sheila!" should be the soundtrack to the dance-off. a) it is fucking catchy b) it is clearly about an australian woman.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:56 (twenty-two years ago)

haha!

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 18 October 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Let me paint you a picture.

The back door is open and planes are flying overhead. It has just stopped raining.

I am sitting at my computer. My girlf has gone up the coast for the weekend to get some tattoo work. I have 20 CDs to review by Monday (paid, HAHAHA!!!). I keep coming back to ILX for light relief.

There is a sneaky mouse in the kitchen. I have tried several traps on her already but she always removes the peanut butter or cheese like a supersleuth. She is getting fat and happy on my attempts to catch her. I can hear her flitting about behind the cupboard. I saw her, she was cute, maybe I don't want to kill her. I might get one of those little tunnels with the door and set her loose in the park.

No 45's in our collection, except fot a fat Truckers single. I feel left out of the party. What can I put on?

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 18 October 2003 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I usually watch TV whilst listening to my discman (isn't discman a lame name? but I used it because I didn't want to say Portable CD player as it sounds too generic, aanyway it's a Panasonic so strictly not a discman, as I'm sure Sony own the copyright). Anyway, my friends are pretty cool, and I'm sure they are in too. It's nice to go out sometimes though, to a FAP or a show or the cinema or something like that.

Mostly, I like to watch programmes about Ibiza or tacky dating shows and listen to stuff like "When Not Being Stupid Is Not Enough".

*Defensively* I dance on the inside, you know.

Oh, so it's not you and some friends Jim?

C.O.D.'s 'In The Bottle'. Dammit, my taste is way too cool, revealing by implication that I'm afraid of being a dag and therefore am one. Where's my 80's pop? I really missed out because I was listening exclusively to Gary Numan.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Kim Wilde's Cambodia sounded turgid and slow so I changed the speed from 33 to 45 - bingo! The next Scooter single. All I need is a German shouting bullshit over the top.

Di, you don't have any Idol? Prime for solitary rocking, preferably without voyeurism going on.

Put on some Bowie and crank it to 11 for me, would ya?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 18 October 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

the title of this thread is exactly what I did tonight. I think it always leads to the feeling you're missing out on something great though. Then again I am a paranoid lunatic when it comes to feeling I could be having more fun than I am at any given moment, I think it's a drug thing.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 18 October 2003 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

If I do go home early tonight it's gonna be "fuck the world" and the first three Flock Of Seagulls albums played in chronological order. I'm trying to figure out what I'd do if I heard all these songs coming out of somebody's house in town. I'd have to do SOMETHING. knock on the door? Just scream "YOU ROCK" a lot? hmm.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 18 October 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I opted for "Good Life" to remind me of past glories.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 18 October 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i know what you mean, ronan, though as i age i'm better at curbing those impulses. last night i knew for certain that the only thing to come of me sticking it out would be getting ill from tequila and cheap coke. not exactly the fun of the century.

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 18 October 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

well tonight my friends were going to the worst club on the planet, I mean I live in Dublin so trust me when I say this. I actually might have gone except apparently you don't get in if you're not wearing shoes, and I don't own any. it often isn't even about fun, just about staying awake longer and waiting for something to happen. I am now glad I went home though, at least 60 percent.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 18 October 2003 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I was in last night too, so whipped from working the day before that I couldn't even stay up to watch the Louisville game on ESPN. Yikes.

hstencil, Saturday, 18 October 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

you dont own shoes

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Saturday, 18 October 2003 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 18 October 2003 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Back to reviewing CD this morning. I'm doing the washing also. It's a lovely day! Our flatmate is playing Tourette's - the vocals go GHHHHRRROOOWLLL! I can't believe that voice comes from a woman. She must be chanelling a deep sea kraken or something.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 18 October 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh. So tonight I had to come home early-ish, because I was hanging out with my brother and his girlfriend demanded that he be home by 11 pm. So I'm home now, slightly drunk, and posting to ILX.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 19 October 2003 04:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Slight variation on thread: coming home early because your friends are lame and go to bed at midnight (!) when you'd rather be out wasting money and trying to get laid.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 October 2003 04:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Where would you rather be, Oops?

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 19 October 2003 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Crazy Rock?

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 19 October 2003 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

No! Quigley's! (is that the lame Naperville bar I'm thinking of)(lame Naperville bar is pretty redundant)

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 October 2003 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I went out to buy a new Discman (an impromptu plan that originated as "sell some CDs" but changed once I dropped my old one and the cover latch broke off). Then I browsed for used LPs on the way home and found vinyl copies of To Rococo Rot's first album and a French pressing of Boney M's Nightflight to Venus (total cost: $8ish).

That part was classic. Then I had to do my laundry, which took THREE HOURS because first the washers conked out in the middle of the cycle, and then there was only one open dryer (the other two were occupied by unclaimed clothes), meaning I had to do each of the three loads separately/consecutively. That was dud.

There was no TV involved.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Sunday, 19 October 2003 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, Oops, I don't know the names of suburban bars.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 19 October 2003 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Clementine's Pub? Mrs. T's?

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 19 October 2003 04:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha! Mrs T's is right down the street from me. You know, I can't think of any suburban bars either. Wait, there's that one by the bowling alley. Used to be Pete's, now it's the Bash or some shit. Was dragged there once. Ew.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 October 2003 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

What's the clientele like at bars in Bolingbrook? Gino Badal and friends?

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 19 October 2003 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Adam Maldonado, after he gets off work at Denny's?

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 19 October 2003 04:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't really know. Was dragged to that Pete's/Bash place once: a bunch of factory workers in flannel shirts and NASCAR hats drinking Miller Lite. Been to one other bar--in that strip by Portillo's and Subway--for the purpose of shooting some pool. Clientele was just like the other place except more wrinkles and less teeth.

(haha, I just remembered who Gino Badal is)

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 19 October 2003 05:35 (twenty-two years ago)

My woman is still up the coast, too.
I am reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (never read it before) and listening to D'angelo. Debating on whether I should make Rice Krispie Treats now or tomorrow.
What's going down in AU? Which city/town do you live in? Got a place for me to stay? (you can say 'why yes I do!' and not have to worry because it'll be a hot day in heaven before I have enough cash to visit)

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 October 2003 05:41 (twenty-two years ago)

BTW, jaymc's brother needs to kick that girl to tha curb!

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 October 2003 05:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I made a deep cut in my hand slicing mango, failed to download a DJ Rectangle mix for about the 10th time, and read some really old, bitchy ILE threads where everyone got all melodramatic. I think I heard someone going through our trash, but I was too chicken to look out of the window.

adaml (adaml), Sunday, 19 October 2003 05:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait wait wait!

"Pure as NY Snow" - Yes, what was with that? Was she blind as well as hoarse?

OK, I've been working up a cover of Bette Davis Eyes, OK, and so I mean: Is your suggestion that New York snow is not all that pure? Because of course that was Ms. Carnes' suggestion as well.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 19 October 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in Sydney. Of course you can stay if you come to Aust. You wouldn't be the first yank. We love Americans! You are so much more polite than we are. The last guy thanked us for 'our hospitality'! We stared at him blankly. "hospi-what, mate?'

Radio just got very interesting in Syd with a new radio station so that's on right now. There's some really great music playing, don't know who it is, but it's going all over the globe. We had Chicks on Speed, some bhangra, not sure who, and now we appear to have something from Melbourne, something local, it's got a bit of a Tuxedomoon feel.

Just finished the last washing load. Back door still open, light fading now. I have four more CDs to review and I'm done. Been reviewing all weekend, hence my constant ILX-oriented work avoidance. Oh, there's a new track in the studio too and every so often I wander in there and throw down some more sequences. This was how I used to be when I was single. If my woman were here, the TV would be on, we'd be watching an Elvis movie or something, and then probably both htting the studio at some point.

Got chicken in the fridge which has to be used soon, so probably a chicken salad. I've got lime, a new kind of minty pepper herb in the garden, lots of rocket and radiccio... it's humid and it looks like it might rain.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 19 October 2003 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Nothing wrong with a little rain. Or a little chicken salad.

adaml (adaml), Sunday, 19 October 2003 05:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Casuistry, you mean Kim Carnes actually meant to imply that she was dirty? Cos don't forget she says:

You don't have to think twice
She's pure as New York snow

Now I would've assumed, that if she meant to imply that the woman in question was as dirty as NY snow, the line would've been:

You should probably think twice
She's pure as New York snow

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 19 October 2003 05:58 (twenty-two years ago)

And I love Australians! None of that phony politeness. I'm not comfortable unless I'm being insulted or teased. I guess that's just a natural consequence of having two older sisters.
There's some leftover mushroom-n-onion pizza in the fridge that's calling my name. (Home Run Inn---all you haterz must have only had the frozen variety). Follow that with a dish of orange sherbet and you got yourself a contented camper.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 October 2003 06:04 (twenty-two years ago)

when was the precise moment that Techno became dated?

wondering whether to revive it. It is indeed an interesting thread but things get too heated. I found that Mr Geir Hongro talks plenty of sense if you have the patience to filter it out. Anyway I love dancing to music so I'm not with him the whole way. This is the kind of thing going through my mind as I enjoy this lovely Sunday evening.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 19 October 2003 06:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops, bad editing again. Now we're listening to Finnish folky/electronic weirdness. I want to ring the DJ and tell him he's a hero. That pizza sounds good Oops.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 19 October 2003 06:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Colin, the song is about a sexuallly aggressive woman who's gonna take you home and screw your brains out. She ain't pure.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 19 October 2003 06:25 (twenty-two years ago)

we're listening to Uruguay electronica now!

Niiiice! That IS what radio should be all about. Damn capitalism ruins everything!
Pizza is one of those foods that can sometimes taste better re-heated. The cheese congeals and takes on a different, less gooey, more rubbery texture. Stuffed pizza is especially good when re-heated. Ha! You Aussies may have great radio programs, spectacular beaches, and low crime, but do you have stuffed pizza? No. No you don't.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 October 2003 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Why, did you take it from them?

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 19 October 2003 06:31 (twenty-two years ago)

*mumbles due to full mouth* Wasn't me.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 October 2003 06:32 (twenty-two years ago)

We had the stuffed crust pizza at Pizza Hut for a while, does that count?

We got lotsa decent pizza here cos Italians have been coming here since the 1850's - what we can't get is decent Mexican.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 19 October 2003 06:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, that counts....against you.

Here's the real deal:
http://www.matthewweathers.com/year2002/currents/wisconsin/giordanos.jpg

My favorite topping filling combo is spinach, onion, and black olive.

We have many many Mexicans around here. (why do I feel like I have to say 'but I have no problem with that' or something after saying that?) They've been coming to Chicago for awhile now and are still the fastest-growing ethnic group in my town. Yet, there's only one decent place for Mexican food and it's too expensive to go to regularly. El Burrito Loco=dog food and would you eat at a place called El Famous Burrito? I won't again.

I'm on a Thai kick. Didn't think any good Thai places existed in the 'burbs but found one just 10 minutes away. Pad Woon Sen made extra spicy=MMMMM.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 October 2003 06:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I hear Sydney has a heap of good Asian restaurants.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 October 2003 06:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Luckily my girf is half American and covers the Mexican!

We have quite a few Thai restaurants. This is south-east Asia after all. You can get Thai at the local pub. Actually that's another option for my chicken - a green curry.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 19 October 2003 07:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm halfway through my essay. its a drag, and not the queenish kind.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 19 October 2003 08:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi Di. What's the topic of the essay?

I still haven't finished those 4 reviews. It's time I got into it. See yez all in an hour.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 19 October 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

its about North Indian classical music and performance and identity. this is obviously a wonderfully interesting topic, but it is a drag because i am burnt out on school.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 19 October 2003 08:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I've finished my reviews now. All I have to do is make dinner and kill that mouse. She came out from behind the cupboard, saw me, went 'oh shit!' and ran back in again. I have reset the mousetrap.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 19 October 2003 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I like this thread. :)

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 19 October 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm totally laughing at the western-chicago-burbs references! (crazy rock hahahahaha) I must disagree on the stuffed pizza choice, though: Stuffed spinach and mushroom is the best. Bacino's used to be better than Giardano's but I don't think it is anymore.

El Famous is a place only to visit when it's 4 AM and you're drunk off your ass. Otherwise that place would really scare me.

The mexican place on Ogden that's one strip mall over from the Great American Bagel and such--that one's decent.

It always seems like noon anymore until I get around to eating breakfast.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Sunday, 19 October 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Where you at, Julia?

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 19 October 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Near La Grange now, but I went to high school more west of here. That doesn't sound like a very coherent sentence. I always thought I'd get out of here after high school, but ended up working in DG and Lombard and now, here I am still, indefinitely.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Sunday, 19 October 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Gotcha. My parents aren't too far from you, then -- they just moved to Willow Springs a couple years ago. We need to get all you suburbanites to a FAP sometime!

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 19 October 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

ha. i love how i started this thread all pious-like, but failed to mention that my current hibernatory state is mainly to get my strength up for future impropriety. cmj starts this week, and i need all of the energy i can muster to go out, guzzle free booze by the gallon, and ruin as many professional relationships as i can.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 19 October 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't go home particularly early after all (saw some ok whatever emo-metal bands), but I didn't stay out late either. And when I got back I listened to the disappointing if OK whatever new Basement Jaxx and Twilight Singers albums before sayin' fuck it and going to sleep. Tonight I'm staying out late, goddamnit.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 19 October 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Why do these great threads never get started on the 45 weekends of the year that I do just this? I had to work Friday night at an awful fraternity type bar (they played the dance remix of "Sweet Home Alabama"! twice!) and then all day saturday I was dealing with mr teeny's little brother's wedding...we blew a flat an hour and a half away from the wedding and got in town not in time to babysit like we promised but in time for me to put the groom and groomsmen in their tuxes (oh they had no idea how cufflinks worked!) and the groom's 18-month-old in his bitty white tux (oh how he screamed) and then shushed children and held babies through the ceremony and limo ride (yes! baby car seats in limos!) and photos and reception which was flower-less and bartender-less and vegetarian food-less.

I rather like staying home. At least I got miles of goodwill from mr teeny's family and another vow of childlessness from mr teeny.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 19 October 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

hey teeny, did I ever mention that Mr. Teeny is the name of Krusty the Klown's roller-skating chain-smoking monkey? It makes for great mental images everytime you talk about him.

ooh, spinach and mushroom. That does sound really good. Whenever I get stuffed I seem to be ordering with people who don't like 'shrooms though.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 October 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

What's sad is, on Friday night my flatmates and i were all at a party a few streets away, but left for an hour to watch Invader Zim at home.

yes, and it's closer to reality than you might think! he is now a non-smoker but was driven to smoke at the reception by all the madness. in any case it's too good of a mental image to give up.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 19 October 2003 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Congratulations on finishing your essay, Di! :)

Heh, this is somewhat similar to "This is the thread where I say", but with more guys in it. I like this. I hope this thread never ends!

This is weird, because normally I'd have been posting constantly on a thread like this, but this past weekend I was actually out of the house for a sizeable portion of time. On Saturday, I took Mom to this huge shoe store on the other side of town so that she could get some shoes that would fit her (her feet are prone to swelling), then we drove around the area. We then went to a restaurant in the area for a retirement party (one of my uncles just retired), and to this supermarket halfway between this area and home for our groceries.

On Sunday we went to get Palomino and Orpheus (i.e. our vehicles) washed, then went to a birthday party (a little cousin of mine -- God, what a brat), and then we went to Mass, to visit one of my relatives at a hospice place, out to eat dinner, back home, back to the hospice place (the relative ended up passing away just as we were getting home), and then finally back at home at around one in the morning.

Sure, none of it sounds like a real "party time!" sort of thing, but I had a social life throughout the weekend and I'm kinda exhausted. Also, this is the first time since the last time I posted on this thread that I've been able to get to a computer. Am SO not used to this!

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 20 October 2003 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i am cherishing it while it lasts. i have approx two more hours of hermitude, then i'm off to the bar. i will be at a bar for the rest of the week without interruption, pretty much, and no rest even at home because there will be a Paradi$e Boy on the couch. the couch i watch late night tv on, mind you. this is serious.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 20 October 2003 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

yikes. i would consider trading said paradi$e boy your bed for the couch.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 25 October 2003 07:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 25 October 2003 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I am home, still drunk on champagne, after an afternoon nap, listening to very old school hiphop. I also have a coffee. We had a band shoot today. It was fun and I did not hate it. Hello fellow dweebs! I kiss you all in a private place.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder why we can't just have plain icecream - no vanilla, nothing? Is there a reason? And don't say 'yes, it'd be crap'.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

plain vanilla ice cream is good with guinness!

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:36 (twenty-two years ago)

guiness flavoured ice cream?? just hook it to my vein!!

plain ice cream would just taste like frozen whipped cream, wouldn't it?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

are you Irish by any chance geeta? Di, the idea woould be to add your own fruit topping or whatever you fancied. Guinness, for example.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

or peanut butter and chocolate.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:43 (twenty-two years ago)

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

My 3 yr old 'wrote a letter' today. Sealing the envelope, she told me "It's for a band I love. It says 'I love you, band.'"

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

send it to me, i need fan mail

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I think she would like the idea of a band called Tugboat, Jim. She and her neighbour, a 3 year old boy, have been arguing lately about who's got the toughest dad.

Toby: My dad has lots of power tools!

Sarah-Jane: Well, Toby, his tools are all plastic and not very good.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:58 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 25 October 2003 09:01 (twenty-two years ago)

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 25 October 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

near midnight saturday night, I'm on guestlist at a decent show, but no, I am home. I'm a bit too worn out to have any fun. I used to live for live shows, though, what happened? If I didn't work so early in the morning, would my life be different? Am I afraid to find out? Home is nice, though.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 26 October 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)
