Dud.

jupitershere, Friday, 24 October 2003 05:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I delete this?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 24 October 2003 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Or I could just vote classic, couldn't I

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 24 October 2003 05:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I met Ned one time, and I give him a great big Classic. So there.

Minty (Minty), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:02 (twenty-one years ago)

He's no chick, that's true

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't let the hair fool ya.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Cos one time...

Leee (Leee), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:08 (twenty-one years ago)

...at band camp...

Leee (Leee), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned's anti-sideburns = dud. I was worried they'd come into contact with my bugger's grips during some manly hug or other and three quarters of London would be annihilated. Fortunately we just shook hands.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned R: Classic.

This thread: dud.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Absolute Classic.

I don't think this thread is a Dud, because it allows us to express our love for Ned. Go Ned! (queue cheerleaders)

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Uber Classic.

Ned was the first person to welcome me onto ILM and invite me over to ILE and onto ILX chats. Friendly and open to all he's the ILX Welcome Wagon.

(now Dan, you wouldn't be mean to Ned would you?)

H (Heruy), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think this thread is a Dud, because it allows us to express our love for Ned. Go Ned! (queue cheerleaders)

True, `drew, but I was speaking more towards the apparent mean-spiritedness of it.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned is the backbone of ILX. Without him half the internet just would not run!

Therefore he is classic, sideburns or not. Also, the phrase "fart cave" springs to mind. ;-)

kate (kate), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I meant 'cue cheerleaders', but you knew that already.

True, `drew, but I was speaking more towards the apparent mean-spiritedness of it.

As you can probably guess, I'm trying to subvert the initial meany's thread into a thread of Ned-love.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 24 October 2003 06:57 (twenty-one years ago)

ned is the nicest person in the world. *gives ned a great big huge hug*. if that makes me twee, then TWEE ME UP!!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Friday, 24 October 2003 07:01 (twenty-one years ago)

ned rules!!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 24 October 2003 07:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Dud for thinking LA burritos are superior to SF's.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 24 October 2003 07:10 (twenty-one years ago)

finally. a thread i can post to with no reservation.

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Friday, 24 October 2003 07:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i didn't get to talk to ned enuff when he wz in london :(

mark s (mark s), Friday, 24 October 2003 07:20 (twenty-one years ago)

....classic!

(d'oh, i always get inserted wrong)

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Friday, 24 October 2003 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

You should have come to Southall with us, Mark. But then again, you might have ended up bannished to the Fart Cave as well.

kate (kate), Friday, 24 October 2003 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

What the? He is the Classic Dude!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 24 October 2003 07:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I got free stuff from Ned, and so cannot give an impartial opinion.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 24 October 2003 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic.

Schmandrew Schmarrell (afarrell), Friday, 24 October 2003 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i like ned, but as far as sideburns go there can be only one

stevem (blueski), Friday, 24 October 2003 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

he's a thoroughly good chap (I like also how this thread hasn't evolved into outrage at the first poster - just lots of nice things about Ned).

Matt (Matt), Friday, 24 October 2003 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Dud.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 24 October 2003 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Erm, I mean classic.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 24 October 2003 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Clud.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 24 October 2003 08:49 (twenty-one years ago)

:-)

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 24 October 2003 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread is ridiculous. Ned is certainly classic.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 24 October 2003 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I nearly got angry but hey what's the point, Ned obviously rules.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 24 October 2003 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned is totally classy and indeed classic.

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned is a sweetheart and a half! So he's a total classic! Rah!

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

He sent me a CD and the note with it was written on the back of a library record card. Classic.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

which library records release was it?!?!?

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

ned was oddly subdued when i met him.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

my disco inferno cd came with a library card about the life of the frog.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Man, I got no library card. I feel robbed. Then again, I got no tracklisting at all, so I guess it's only natural.

kate (kate), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i seem to have misplaced my DI EPs CDR

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned was the first person to welcome me to ILX. He is a legend.

C J (C J), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I was subdued because you've got more energy than you realize, Mr. Jess!

To all -- thanks and *many blushes.* As a good number of you folks know, I am apt, perhaps all too apt, to reflect on downsides and mistakes, and parts of me I'm not all that fond of. Many of you have gone a long way to help me realize that I've done some good in this nutty world. So thanks. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

well i was high on meth, ned

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

http://movieweb.com/movie/howhigh/cog.jpg

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I am a drug innocent, see.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i want my library card to go with the di eps! neds a bad man, he shows favouritism!

(luv ya ned)

gaz (gaz), Friday, 24 October 2003 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned is great because he is my Internet twin.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned would be classic if he posted those damn photos of me! Wah!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

"How could I fail Women's Studies? I LOVE bitches!"

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic but what's with these anti-sidies?

mei (mei), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned I'd say, is of course classique except when he disses Dylan.

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Then he is SUPER-MEGA-CLASSIC!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic but what's with these anti-sidies?

Because sideburns are sooooooooooo dud. I say it's time for guys to bring back the Henry V look -- everything below the top of the ears shaved off.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't get a library card. Therefore, Mr. Raggett, you sir are a dud.

Allyzay, Friday, 24 October 2003 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I got one, ha ha! But really they are just old card catalog cards, which are pretty much useless now except as note cards.

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic but what's with these anti-sidies?

They're his tribute to Billy Corgan.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay for Ned -- good to finally meet him in person at the mega-pre-wedding-fap-bash thing

alext (alext), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Sometimes, a man has to Take a Stand. For Ned, it's his crusade against sideburns.

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I got one, ha ha! But really they are just old card catalog cards, which are pretty much useless now except as note cards.

its the principle of the thing. (still, if ally never got one too i feel better)

gaz (gaz), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett transcends the classic or dud divide, like God or donuts.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 24 October 2003 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i got a library card thing too!

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It's some secret system Ned has of grading how good the bands/CDs in question are which is so complex that only a librarian could understand, like The Name Of The Rose or something.

You know, I watched that film the other night, and every time Sean Connery went round another corner, I kept expecting Ned to leap out and bounce up and down saying "really, you know, Loveless is just the greatest album of all time..."

kate (kate), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett transcends the classic or dud divide

No, Ned is firmly classic. It's his laugh you're thinking of.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

What can I say about the sideburn thing? It's my own personal crusade...cuz I'm MY OWN...PERSONAL...JESUS. Reach out, touch me.

It's his laugh you're thinking of.

That, I admit, is its own kettle of fish.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned would be classic if he posted those damn photos of me! Wah!

I hope to finally get them back today. Patience!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

library cards for all i say! librarians shouldn't show discernment...

gaz (gaz), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

when i send ned a cd im going to write a note in sideburn hair.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

All of you who received CDs with a library card, please return them now, they're overdue.

The Librarian (SeanC), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahem.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember reading something Ned wrote for Careless Talk Costs Lives and thinking "Ned Raggett, what a funny name! I wonder what sort of person has a name like that?", and now of course, I know the answer to the question, for better or for worse.

;P

adaml (adaml), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Poor soul. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Personally, I prefer the early stuff.

What were we talking about again?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ned = burrito mentalizer, but otherwise geezer

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned rules!!!!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 24 October 2003 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Heavens! I got a library card!

Completely and utterly classic.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 24 October 2003 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Library Gang founding member!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 24 October 2003 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Well he's always been very nice to me, apart from not sending me any CD's or library cards but then I never asked so...sorry, I digress - I say classic

smee (smee), Friday, 24 October 2003 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I never even got a CD so forget him. . .

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 24 October 2003 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

D'oh!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned didn't stink up my car when he was in it like that ne’er-do-well Miccio, so he's classic. The stuff about Miccio may be a lie.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 24 October 2003 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Not to stir things up (again) but from what Chris P told me last night, the "classic-ness" of Ned is about to be reinforced and iron-cast by events inconceiveable even beyond the ILX hivemind's collective imagination.

adaml (adaml), Friday, 24 October 2003 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Heavens! Great generosity: C/D? ;-)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 24 October 2003 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

reinforced and iron-cast

these are the key-words, yes?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 24 October 2003 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Please will somebody whisper to me what this great secret is that you all seem to be privy to? My brane is exploding with the unbearableness of being left in the dark :((

C J (C J), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

It's...well, you'll see.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I almost don't want to know...but I am too nosy not to want to know.

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

You already know!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to know, too!

luna (luna.c), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

*flounces off*

adaml (adaml), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

these are the key-words, yes?

Yes, a giant bust of Ned is to be unveiled on Hlavne Namestie, Bratislava's glorious town square.

adaml (adaml), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

*applause*

luna (luna.c), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

You already know!

Huh? Now I am totally confused.

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett Voted God of Meat, ILX Shocked and Awed

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

neds turning into the red dragon.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh NOW I know.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

"It's...well, you'll see"

You're such a tease, Ned!

C J (C J), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to listen to KUCI (it shared the same freq mod channel as my the station i worked at) during the fucking hellish traffic escapades prior to the 18 lane expansion (and toll road bypass) of the orange crush circa the 405/5 merging on my way to/from SD to LA. I remembered his show a couple times, putting a voice to the name from AMA.

In general, Burritos (Mexican Food) suffer in quality the farther you get from Mexico... SD>LA>SF.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 24 October 2003 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i have found that sf has some decent places. santa cruz and san jose, mainly. but yes, los angeles is a terrible place to eat mexican food, unless you like chevy's or el torito, which is lame at best.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Friday, 24 October 2003 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

WHO THE FUCK IS JUPITERSHERE???

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 24 October 2003 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

dean, just go to tito's (wash/sepulveda)

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 24 October 2003 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

WHO THE FUCK IS JUPITERSHERE???

Judging from the way this thread went, he could be Ned Raggett.

Herbstmute (Wintermute), Friday, 24 October 2003 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

wintermute OTM

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 24 October 2003 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Despite my sideburns burning like a kentucky headhunter, Ned's not evil.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 24 October 2003 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Most of my favorite bands were introduced to me through AMG by courtesy of the lovely Mr. Raggett. He's such a rock star!

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Friday, 24 October 2003 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic.

Francis OTM.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 24 October 2003 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

He's absolutely classic for his review of NOMEANSNO's 'Live + Cuddly'.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 24 October 2003 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not Jupitershere. I'm idly curious as to who it is, but not by much.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

You have ways of tracking that person, Ned!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 24 October 2003 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I did! And it told me nothing, so never mind.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Er, much though Ned is Classic, being able to create threads like this one is also Classic, and IP searching someone for doing so is Dud. IMHO.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 24 October 2003 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

(note: being able to X != X)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 24 October 2003 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Andrew Farrell is a DALEK (doo-dah, doo-dah)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 24 October 2003 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic, in the sense that all people who accuse me of crack addiction are classic.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 24 October 2003 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, duh. Crackhead.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 24 October 2003 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn straight, Miccio. (Andrew's point is actually very taken. :-))

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 October 2003 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that someone starting malicious threads makes themselves a perfectly legitimate target for such searching, personally.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 24 October 2003 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

That strikes me as a really low threshold for malicious.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 24 October 2003 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just realised that Ned is clearly a Dud for never posting those photos from the Melbourne FAP all that time ago! You bastard!

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 24 October 2003 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic.
An iron outlaw.
He should wear an iron helmet, ride a horse, and carry a carbine.

Star Hustler, Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just realised that Ned is clearly a Dud for never posting those photos from the Melbourne FAP all that time ago! You bastard!

*sniff* Uh, one day I'll get them scanned. Er, yeah.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

So what's the big secret (obv I am a whore for secrets and must know)

Matt (Matt), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, the big secret has just been officially revealed. I guess I'll start a thread about it. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 25 October 2003 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Thus.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 25 October 2003 01:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, come back to Melbourne, so I can meet you too and share the Nedlove! :)

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 25 October 2003 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

It will be done!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 25 October 2003 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah NED!

BurmaKitty (BurmaKitty), Saturday, 25 October 2003 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

In general, Burritos (Mexican Food) suffer in quality the farther you get from Mexico... SD>LA>SF.

first of all, Burritos are not exactly Mexican food, and there are so many exceptions to this statement (re Burritos and Mexican food) in LA and SF that it's rendered pointless.

i have found that sf has some decent places. santa cruz and san jose, mainly. but yes, los angeles is a terrible place to eat mexican food, unless you like chevy's or el torito, which is lame at best.

Uh, there are obviously great Mexican places in L.A. especially if you look at the 10,000 Mexican restaurants besides Chevy's or El Torito, WTF???

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 25 October 2003 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I was scratching my head at that comment as well. Saying there are no good Mexican places in LA and environs is a bit like saying there are no good Indian places in Southall. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 25 October 2003 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

For the record, I am very pro-Raggett.
Thank you. That is all.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Saturday, 25 October 2003 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

IP searching someone for doing so is Dud. IMHO.

it always surprises me that people don't realize headers/ IPs can be forged, and that traceroute will give you only whatever info someone who knows what they are doing wants you to see.

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 25 October 2003 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic. Without Ned ILE/ILM wouldn't be as much fun, plus its somehow reassuring to encounter s.o. whose fixation with MBV totally overshadows my own.

stevo (stevo), Sunday, 26 October 2003 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

quite funny that someone with that name started this thread, since Ned is of course the most Jupiterian (think jovial, but thats not all) person i know, planeterially speaking!!

ned is classic anyway because i tried to kill him in my car but failed

Vic (Vic), Sunday, 26 October 2003 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Because sideburns are sooooooooooo dud. I say it's time for guys to bring back the Henry V look -- everything below the top of the ears shaved off.

Including the arms, legs, pelvis, etc?

Ned is, of course, a Classic. I still get crushes on him from time to time.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Sunday, 26 October 2003 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned is, of course, a Classic. I still get crushes on him from time to time.

Everybody: Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

(Now for an "Oh my GOD!" shocking secret moment: I once had a crush on him back in June or July, but now I'm just filled with general friendly feelings toward him. To be honest with you, it's thrilling enough just being friends with the guy.)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 27 October 2003 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...
Ned's email address always makes me think of Charo.

http://www.dustygroove.com/images/products/c/charothesal_cuchicuch_102b.jpg
"KUCI KUCI!"

Danny Aioli (Rock Hardy), Friday, 22 September 2006 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

Ned, I think you need to shake whatcha momma gave ya.

Danny Aioli (Rock Hardy), Friday, 22 September 2006 00:33 (eighteen years ago)

charo is still pretty hot at 104.

chaki (chaki), Friday, 22 September 2006 00:38 (eighteen years ago)

Ned, I think you need to shake whatcha momma gave ya.

I'll have to do that in a cryptic sense.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 22 September 2006 00:50 (eighteen years ago)

Ned Raggett: C/D?

Who would ever ask such a silly question? It's intuitively obvious to the most casual observer: classic.

Ned is obviously classic.

Ice Cream Electric (Ice Cream Electric), Saturday, 23 September 2006 12:50 (eighteen years ago)

Dunno why Ned feels the need to be vicious to young boys on ILE but it doesn't do his classicity (already in doubt thanks to sideburngate) any favours at all.

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Saturday, 23 September 2006 13:05 (eighteen years ago)

Vicious to young boys? Do tell!

I think the question is ridiculous by the way.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Saturday, 23 September 2006 14:50 (eighteen years ago)

Well, you go on ILM and begin babbling about the genius of the Electric Soft Parade or stridently proclaiming the worth of some second tier Britpop band you're gonna get aggro. It wouldn't matter how long you've been on ILM.

Ice Cream Electric (Ice Cream Electric), Saturday, 23 September 2006 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

"Feel free to discuss any musical issues"

Maybe I think your fucken' opinion is wrong. Doesn't mean I'm going to try and hound you off the board for it. Now, I happen to thoroughly enjoy The Electric Soft Parade's music, especially their second album (and some of the recent EP), which nobody it seems has actually heard. (Album #1 has not aged well and has been rightfully dismissed by the band themselves.) Do I not however have a right to express this opinion? Who cares if I 'like some second-tier Britpop' (i.e. regard Gomez' debut as a decent album)? There's plenty of shit liked by ILM regulars that I'd laugh my pants off thinking about! The worship by some of what I regard as crappy chart bollocks astonishes me daily! But do I deny them the right to express their views? Of course I fucking don't. Your words are not those that this chatroom were set up to engender; yours are the words of a snob.

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Saturday, 23 September 2006 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Saturday, 23 September 2006 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

'pretentious git', explain. If you're talking about my submission to the 'crisp autumn morning' thread, then I'm sorry but every word there is heartfelt. We all have different ways of expressing our musical opinions, thoughts and theories, and these ways should IMO always be tolerated*. I don't see anything pretentious in believing that.

*Unless your sole response to everything is to post a jpg**.

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Saturday, 23 September 2006 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

Oh the games people play now
Every night and every day now
Never meaning what they say now
Never saying what they mean

And they wile away the hours
In their ivory towers
Till they're covered up with flowers
In the back of a black limousine

[Chorus:]
La-da da da da da da da
La-da da da da da de
Talking 'bout you and me
And the games people play

Oh we make one another cry
Break a heart then we say goodbye
Cross our hearts and we hope to die
That the other was to blame

Neither one will give in
So we gaze at our eight by ten
Thinking 'bout the things that might have been
It's a dirty rotten shame

[Chorus]

People walking up to you
Singing glory hallelulia
And they're tryin to sock it to you
In the name of the Lord

They're gonna teach you how to meditate
Read your horoscope, cheat your faith
And further more to hell with hate
Come on and get on board

[Chorus]

Look around tell me what you see
What's happening to you and me
God grant me the serenity
To remember who I am

Cause you've given up your sanity
For your pride and your vanity
Turns you sad on humanity
And you don't give a da da da da da

best comeback ever?

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Saturday, 23 September 2006 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

Eh, calm down. So you like second-tier Britpop and the Electric Soft Parade, fine. What annoys me aren't your musical opinions, but the hysterical comebacks. On one level they’re amusing, but on another show a total lack of restraint. You say you’re passionate about your love of music, all well and good. But wouldn’t it be better to try and win a discussion with some wit and humor instead of a slew of obscenities? You interpret each difference of opinion as a personal attack when it’s not meant to be. By being overly sensitive to criticism you’ve created the very reality you’re now pushing against.

And for the record I’ve never, ever wanted you banned.

Also, this:

is ten gallons of overreaching pomposity packed into a pint jar.

The Bearnaise-Stain Bears (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 23 September 2006 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

ffs this is a NED RAGGETT thread, someone post Ned Raggett on captain kangaroo stat.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Saturday, 23 September 2006 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

xposts: Fair enough, I've never wanted anyone banned either. Not even you, Passantino. I love you really. :-)

Dude, however, most of my posts contain some sort of attempt at being humourous. Not all of them hit the mark, granted, but I'd hardly say I was always one to opt for the obscenity-fuelled rant ahead of the witty rejoinder. Now, it is probably true that there's a lot of opposition to The Electric Soft Parade and so-called 'second-rate Britpop' on these boards. I admit that I probably mistook your post for one genuinely having a pop at my motives, although judging by the way it was phrased it was almost as if I had made a major 'tactical error' admitting my liking of those bands, rather than merely expressed my opinions on an Internet messageboard. Moreover, your choice of 'babbling' rankled slightly, as if I didn't know what I was thinking when I wrote those mellow words of praise. I apologise for conflating your post with a personal attack, but seeing as I've received so very many of those on these boards, so many abysmally inaccurate, lazy, hurtful and thick-headed comments, my natural reaction is alas to hop onto the defensive.

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Saturday, 23 September 2006 19:04 (eighteen years ago)

Also, this:

Sometimes I get carried away. This was one of those times. Although there's a sentiment here which I adhere to: you shouldn't be told what to like and what not to like.

I was reading the Frogs reviews on AMG and I got halfway thru before I realised it was Ned and the fact that it was made me happy somehow.

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 20 October 2007 19:35 (seventeen years ago)

I get that sometimes. In fact, just this afternoon, a friend of mine was reading Plan B, and he gave it to me for a quick read. And I said "oh look, Ned! I know him!" and my friend was quite impressed while i was sort of embarrassed, cos I don't *really* know ned, but then I really do too, and what does it even mean to *know* somebody in this day and age, eh? I dunno.

L.P. Hovercraft (WmC), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 02:24 (fourteen years ago)

Given where Watt says his dad was stationed over the years, no; also my dad was sub service for most of his career where Watt's dad was surface fleet from the sound of it. Watt's dad served a while on the Enterprise so it's entirely possible he and my dad served as part of a large WESTPAC exercise or deployment but that would have been the very distant extent of it. When it comes to friendship, my dad's friends in the service were kinda by default his fellow commissioned officers.
