Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 29 December 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 29 December 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Well then, I look forward to another two days of hostility.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 29 December 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 29 December 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 29 December 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not making any this year, or any other year from here on! They never get accomplished, and just become another thing to dwell on.

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom's microwave looks like it's designed by Apple.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Learn to NOT REACT TO TROLLS. Seriously. I've been in stupid situations twice now this last year due to their silly trolling ways!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Why?

(sorry)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh i should really cut back on the troll-reacting too

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

but when you do it it brings teh funney, steve!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

that's very nice of you to say, but i am done with it i think - there's enough going round in circles round here as it is (i.e. i start a thread which someone else already started 2 years ago)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

An ILX-wide resolution to ignore trolls would be a beautiful thing.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

yep!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It'd make up for the not many mods thing, actually. But I don't trust people to follow it, somehow, tho me and Markelby and Stevem wouldn't be a bad start

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

What about a closed forum? I know it's been spoken about before & although it goes against ilx, surely it would put an end to the like of 'C'!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

But then you are kicking out people who are already here, and like it or not, that includes Calum. Who decides who gets to stay?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

only kicking out trolls surely. Not saying it would work, just thinking out loud.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

It might work, considering how many people turn up here by referral... thinking out loud too.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

or maybe just the ability to ban ip adds.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Kick out Calum & Johnny Fitz, and set an age limit of 16.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Aja'd be great if she didn't insist on asking for things to be explained to her, tho.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Not that that's grounds for establishing/undermining a new rule obv

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think ilx is a place for a 12 year old!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, her mum obviously doesn't mind...

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

And, on thread, I should make a resolution not to derail threads, nor continue with the derailment started by others. In fact I think, carrying on from what Mark said about troll-ignoring, that everyone should resolve to make ILX the place they want it to be rather than whinging about how it isn't.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't really see what the problem is with Aja, apart from the weird thread started by the Dante guy falling in love with her.

xpost PP, I agree some minors can be a nuisance but Aja isn't that big a problem is she? Or have I missed something here?

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Her mum posts pics of herself half naked, of course she isnt gonna mind. I just feel uncomfortable with a 12 year old on the board when certain subjects are discussed. Also, it is infuriating when she continually asks questions & posts irrelevant pics.
X-post

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I dont often moan about ilx, recently i took a break & it did me some good, but at the moment it is really weird. Sadly I cannot do anything about that. I would like to change it, but how can you do that?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I knew all about that crap when I was 12, to be honest I think ILX isn't a bad place for a 12yrold at all, so long as she avoids that grasping dork. And stops saying "what?".

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

so long as she avoids that grasping dork.

OTM. I think the "grasping dork" is a bigger PITA myself.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i think the real problem is that so many people insist on passing comment about people like Aja or engaging with her in whatever way when there is really no need, and to just not bother with those threads would see them peter out quick enough. same goes for c-man threads (of which i must plead guilty but as i said i think i can leave them alone now). i am disliking this whole 'whatever are we to do about such and such' attitude going round just as much as i am disliking c-man's irritating trolling and Aja's inability to understand people twice/thrice her age most of the time.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Ste, Aja isn't a bad person, but her presence here has really disrupted ILX in a big way. Maybe some of that disruption was necessary, but her constant "what" and "why" comments just prove that someone of that age is certainly not getting much out of a grown-up forum like this and is spoiling things for a number of others.

(x-post after Andrew's)

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

on the other hand it is sort of funny how nasty so many people are being at this very special time of year

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not having a go (although i guess it seems like that) it justs disrupts threads, the same with C's abuse & the likes of Dada pics. F@#k it, I'll just nod & say everything is peachy!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry pink, yours and other people's (inc. mine) comments are entirely reasonable really but it just strikes me as better to not even bother commenting about it in the first place as this just draws more attention to it and makes it a bigger deal than it needs to be. no things are not peachy, but stick around anyway ok?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

btw Aja is likely to be the most frequent poster of the last 30 days by this time next week, which is quite extraordinary (esp. considering half of those posts are just 'What?')

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Locked forum! Locked forum! Completely locked forum!

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim, your wish is granted.
*waves wand*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I dunno, Steve. ILX suffers (IMO) from not having more fixed posting guidelines, and unfortunately it's been proved countless times you can't expect even the regulars to behave with anything like maturity or consideration for others.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess the only reason a 12 year old would keep coming back here was if they were getting attention. So right enough of Aja, back to NY resolutions matters ..

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Thing is though Stevem, if you dont say anything then you just get pissed off & leave. I dont agree with the threads that bash individual posters, but surely if alot of ppl are onjecting to something...

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

x-post

this may be true Mark but i'm pretty sure that c-man and Aja wouldn't still be around if people didn't respond to them in the ways that they do (that goes for me too). so no response at all seems like the best way out of whatever you consider this situation to be (a big deal, a horrible mess, a storm in a teacup...)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think i have ever responded to any of C's derogatory threads, but he's still here because ppl still get insensed & respond.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Thing is though Stevem, if you dont say anything then you just get pissed off & leave

Or else be big enough to ignore it? There are plenty people on this board who irritate the fuck out of me, but I ignore then. I suggest everyone else does the same. If they are being offensive, that's one thing. But annoying? Since when was that a crime?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

from my personal point of view, being such a frequent pos(t)er on here now, i am frustrated by the lack of current 'quality content' here - this would explain why i respond to most C-Man threads in some way, i am looking for it to go somewhere that interests me - usually it doesn't of course. i am also frustrated by my own offline situation and by my imagination in these online situations. in addition to those factors it is a bad time for a forum that by and large revolves around people relieving their boredom at WORK - so i expect the place to become more active and interesting in around a month's time. then again, i look back at how it used to be, before i turned up, and see many interesting and amusing threads, the kind of thing that doesn't need to be revived, and i understand how a lot of people might feel that there's a natural decline going on, in accordance with their own natural loss of interest in ILX. am i making sense? i hope so...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, I'll try to be bigger in future!!
x-post

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

most people aren't back at work yet, even if it won't necessarily be amazing when they get back, that's still worth bearing in mind.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Pink, I wasn't meaning you personally. I just thought what you said was a bit of a generalisation. I'm sure a lot of people are fed up of Calum, but the vast people aren't getting up and leaving, or retaliating. They're just getting on with it like he wasn't here.

Also, surely all the wailing and gnashing of teeth is part of the malaise? Someone want to start "I Hate I Love Everything" so this can go elsewhere, leaving everyone else to post pictures of kittens and talk about other stuff?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve, you're misunderstanding. Maybe I'm just becoming a parody, but we need to talk about the need to ignore them. Otherwise smartarses will continue to make smartarse comments and feed the flames.

Alternatively, I'd be happy for Alan or Andrew to decree something that makes it all clear. As long as we can get away from all the hating between REGULARS which the present situation seems to be catalysing.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the problem is not many people really care anymore, in the sense that there are too many people for any one group of people to care enough etc. ILX is an out of control minecart.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

but isn't it true that the only reason we're complaining is because we feel that 'OUR' place is being taken away from us or desecrated in some way? is that a good or bad thing? how you put a stop to it i don't know

Aja and C-Man are a lot more regular than many 'regulars' now!

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

That surely doesn't make it a good thing steve.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm complaining because good people are either put off or turned nasty and cynical because of everything.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm almost beyond the capacity to complain. It seems the current philosophy is a laissez-faire approach that is NOT WORKING -- or rather, it would work beautifully if one could set personal preferences to screen out those threads/posts from hated fools like C***m. The board not being set up that way, the result is having to look dully at their presence because apparently there's a belief that simply ignoring said threads/posts/posters will cause them to go away. I don't see that happening -- it reminds me of the situation that caused the abandonment of alt.music.alternative back in early 2000, when the core of regulars there was fed up with the endless trawl through spam and eBay threads. It hasn't gotten that bad here, thank fuck, but I'm not pleased with the comparison coming to mind.

X-post, what Markelby said. Many FUCKING times over.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

My NYR

1) Less ILX, more Freaky Trigger
2) Less of things that are very bad for me in favour of things that are only quite bad for me.
3) Exercise as per.
4) Get halfway through Popular.
5) Put book proposal together.
6) Keep flat looking the way we want it to look.
7) Learn more about cooking (this I think is the only one I kept last year so I will put it in again!)

Ned the laissez-faire approach has to some extent been thrust upon us.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned the laissez-faire approach has to some extent been thrust upon us.

This is true, but its apparent weaknesses already beg for either a replacement or a refinement.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

good ones Tico, I can agree with number 7 definitely!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

respected Ned, but if the last 20 or 30 calum threads (inc. 'serious' ones) had received no answers at all do you think he would still bother? really? i'd be amazed if he did. but of course people are compelled to reply, sometimes to address the 'point' seriously and sometimes to insult him as he has insulted others. i suppose it is moot as this hasn't happened. i do care about ILX - enough/not enough to object to guys like Ned being quite brutal in deleting posts and threads for whatever reason they see fit. i trust them, and i don't think anybody would really care at all if c-man disappeared tomorrow (despite his belief that ILX is obsessed with him).

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Markelby's posts on this subject have been very wise I think, also stevem's about 'our' place etc. The problem w/ignoring is that a/some people are very very good at baiting b/new posters don't know about certain poster's history c/certain posters will up the ante w/r/t obnoxious material being posted in order to get the response they desire.

The killer for good lists, in my experience has been when interesting, but undemonstrative people just get fed up w/it, and quietly give up posting, and look for somewhere else. I've seen 3 good lists turn to shit b/c of this, and in each case the cause (noisy trolls, people sustaining 3-4 month and more flamewars) was fairly obvious.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

#1 - STOP POSTING TO ILX
#2 - STOP POSTING TO ILX
#3 - STOP POSTING TO ILX
#4 - STOP POSTING TO ILX
#5 - STOP POSTING TO ILX
#6 - STOP POSTING TO ILX
#7 - STOP POSTING TO ILX
#8 - STOP POSTING TO ILX
#9 - STOP POSTING TO ILX
#10 - lose weight, as per

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

bye jess, take care of yourself mate

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

re. Ned's stuff about AMA - yes it reminds me of that too, but AMA is not the Internet and nor is ILX; something in the way the web works means that community online tends to be nomadic, I think.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

but of course people are compelled to reply

I think this is the key point (and certainly I'm not excluding myself here, when my frustrations over him hit a boiling point, more than once). If I may -- and I realize that this is a comparison that might not be welcomed -- he reminds me of Geir not in terms of malicious intent but in terms of knowing a key fact about ILX: its current 'open' status means that you will NOT necessarily be able to get everyone onside for a policy merely by wishing it was so, and that means you can say button-pushing things or act the fool precisely you know somebody, somewhere, will respond, and that there's always somebody new around the corner. In light of that, simply wishing the body of posters suddenly becomes permanently enlightened and that nothing will crop up again seems a bit hard to do.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Do the people who want to stop posting to ILX or reduce posting want to form a support group of sorts? I'm (sort of) serious. I know when Tim and I went on ILX Strike earlier this year we managed to stop each other posting quite effectively (he claims I sneakily posted but that is a filthy lie).

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

sometimes i wonder if i CAN stop.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I SAW YER!

I share resolutions 1-3 and 6-7 with Tom and 1-4 and 8-10 with Jess.

I remember Kate posting something ages ago which plotted the history of all successful internet discussion places, I wonder where that is.

Meta never makes things better but it's the only fun to be had in this particular town right now.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

quitting smoking and drinking were easier. which is very scary.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Hasn't everyone taken an 'ILX break' at some point of another? I know I have.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

That said, I guess some posters will be missed & some wont.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

the longest i ever managed was about three months, i think.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Three months!! Jess I bow to you.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never really taken a break, I must admit. If the 'community' decides to up sticks & hoof it off somewhere else (which I really hope it doesn't) email me and tell me where please!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

haha tom i might be inflating that in my head

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

it was probably more like 1.5-2

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

naturally, i had just moved and was in luv and everything was wide open for me

when the crushing realities of life bore down two months later i came crawling back.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe you didnt break the way you wanted to yo but i break

kelis (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

So who can make a decision about changes? Do ppl want ilx to change or just leave it be?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Btw I like Jess a lot, I just don't think he's like MR MODERATOR.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I have never taken an ILX break, I've never felt it was really doing that much damage, but then I don't work a 9-5 so it's ILX or playing with balls of wool.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

andrew i have read that four times and can't come close to figuring out what it means.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

remember when that message was put up saying 'do not respond to bcky lcas threads'? would that not work with c-man?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I am drunk. Take a WILD guess, tho. I love you!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I only go onto ilx during a working day, but if all is not well in your life, sometimes ilx is the last place to be.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I think yr too emotional to be a good mod the end

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh for fuck's sake people.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Why don't you have a real email again?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

To discourage emails that just say "What?"

Allyzay, Tuesday, 30 December 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, that seems fair. ILX dorkweirdoes should just send ME email, oh I ENCOURAGE it, go on Sean!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

god another fucking discussion abt ILX. this is worse than c-man's threads (which I don't even open).

there is only one resolution:

1) to finish off my studies and to do it right.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha it's not like it's hard to find my email, it's on my old posts. Would you like to email me, Andrew? mlescaut @ att.net

Allyzay, Tuesday, 30 December 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Right! I'm taking this to the next level!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

You're going to sign me up to all the spam lists just like how that bastard Blount did to Calum, aren't you?

Allyzay, Tuesday, 30 December 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

You wish.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i was waiting for the usual suspects to jump in with the 'arguing about ILX is lame you lame people' type jibe. do these people deny there is anything worthy of discussion in this matter? i already suggested it would be better if people didn't talk about but i got sucked into doing just that, argh

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Why are you having a go at Julio? Andrew sent me pornographic pictures of you, stevem. It's true.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 30 December 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

lets all out annoy each other.

Personally I am annoyed by the beginning paragraph of 1984, clearly far more annoying than any of this.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not having a go at anyone really - i'm just having a general moan about the people having a general moan about the people having a general moan about ILX, of which i am one

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan that is not half as annoying as anyting David Foster Wallace has put on paper.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 30 December 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

holy fuckin' shit:
my new year's resolutions
THE SAME AS FIDDO'S

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

my relationship
to ILX is nowhere
near like Jess's though

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm gonna post more, coz like I took a break and I didn't miss ILX at all, but still it was good to come back, and maybe I'll go to more FAPs. These aren't resolutions, just statements of general intent.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

''i was waiting for the usual suspects to jump in with the 'arguing about ILX is lame you lame people' type jibe. do these people deny there is anything worthy of discussion in this matter? i already suggested it would be better if people didn't talk about but i got sucked into doing just that, argh''

you only have yrself to blame steve.

jel- you should def go to more faps.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

threads by calum vs threads about calum/ILX crises

tough call

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd take a thread abt new year resolutions that doesn't get hijacked by ppl that want to discuss the 'ilx crisis'.

but that's not an option.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

That's an even better form of annoyance. Can anyone top this?

I feel annoyed at those who are annoyed by the people expressing annoyance at Calum and co. I can see how this would be annoying though.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

it isn't actually.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

you are right actually, this was not the thread to discuss it and i apologise for my part in the derailment. i still hate you tho ;)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i would resolve to get the fuck out of Michigan, and go somewhere to a job that i might actually enjoy and live with someone i actually wanna be with, but NYRez tend to be broken easily, and there's no way in hell that i'm not doing this.

also, to lose 30lbs.

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah: to not post on here. Esp. about LotR.

And to find someone else I can trust (atm, there is but one).

And to do something useful for once.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 1 January 2004 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually my one for-sure New Years Res that I really am trying to stick to: turn the volume down. Musically, speaking voice, outbursts of laughter, etc.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 2 January 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

My NYR is to get back in touch with a number of people that I really like that I have either lost touch with or it's going that way. It's so easy to think about doing it and then do nothing...then another year goes by. Same thoughts...do nothing again. I want to rectify that.

I would also like to stop reading/posting here but I don't have the self-discipline to do it unfortunately.

6 Clear credit card debts.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Be more all-round fabulous, which is an umbrella resolution covering all kinds of appearance, work-based, debt-reduction, organisational stuff.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

After the fiascos of the last three years, I only have one, which is to have my Christmas meal in my house, cooked by me, with my husband there with me. This doesn't seem a lot to ask, but it's been impossible so far.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

1. Continue going to the gym regularly. Don't stop, 3 times a week a least, with emphasis on cardio.
2. Drink more water, which will probably entail drinking less diet vanilla coke.
3. Don't drink so much beer/drinks that I black out and wake up somewhere I don't recognize.
4. Practice moderation all around.
5. Brush twice a day and floss them.
6. Don't eat at a single chain resturant in 2005.
7. Use my rice cooker nearly every day.
8. Retune my personal wiki, make it less a collection of bullet points, and more an excercise in creative writing.
9. Start journaling again.
10. Read more comic books.
11. Read more in general, especially more non-fiction.
12. Get a job.
13. Get more cold weather biking gear so I can start riding the lakefront again.
14. Establish routine in everyday life. Get up the same time everyday, except on weekends, and go to bed at more or less the same time.
15. Do more hard drugs.
16. Eat more brocolli and spinach.
17. Pay for therapy sessions, even though my health insurance won't cover it and it's fucking expensive in this city.
18. Go to the doctor more in general.
19. Manage my files better.
20. Organize parts of my life that are currently unorganized. Chart thoughts, ideas, feelings. Look for patterns, develop routines, use my brain instead of letting it atrophy.

I did one from last year! I gave up smoking, apart from the occasional indiscretion I am now smoke free.

I also got more stuff printed but not enough. Next year I want to

1. get more stuff printed and try and get stuff printed in different places and in other mags.
2. become a better dj, technically, and get some headline gigs.
3. work harder promoting our club.
4. DECIDE WHAT TO DO WHEN I FINISH COLLEGE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

1. Less tv and movies, more creativity (drawing, writing, music).
2. Get a better job or figure out what I want to do with my professional life.
3. Meet more new people.
4. Learn more about Chicago and do more exploring.

- work when there's work to do but don't feel bad about sitting around taking it easy when there's not
- go for more walks in more interesting places
- sit in bed more, reading books (don't bother about going to bed earlier)
- go on holiday
- don't worry about university assignments until a couple of weeks before they are due in, hey, maybe even a week before. If you don't feel like writing another dissertation, don't
- keep a diary, but don't worry if you don't
- keep eating cakes
- be nice to people and other beasts
- go to the cinema even more often
- meet friends more often
- watch the day go by a couple of times a month
- do something creative every week

I think these are workable!

I haven't had my mind poisoned and emptied by Metro, London Lite or londonpaper since making that decision. If I want to read I take a book, if I don't want to read I write poetry, if I don't want to write poetry I think on things, if I don't to think on things I chat to strangers. Train journeys are exceptionally fecund grounds for creativity and social interaction; the free print media would rather have us engrossed in their meaningless, informationless void.

No year can be as bad as the end of 2007, so I feel quite hopeful about these:

1) Join gym near work with nice swimming pool, because all the ones near my house aren't that near to my house.
2)Pay off two or more debts in full.
3) Stand on middle of Thames flood barrier on a windy day and go 'whoooooooooooo.'
4) Stop buying clothes on eBay when bored.
5) Sell some clothes on eBay and reclaim some space in flat.

I forgot I wrote this last year:

"Get my own apartment, if I can afford it
Complete first year on the job (pass probation)

― Virginia Plain, Monday, 31 December 2007 14:21 (1 year ago)"

I completed the second one, and sort of forgot about wanting the first one.

For this year:

Get a new job with an easier commute.
Start saving a certain amount of money each month.
Go to the gym at least 3X/wk (yoga classes count).

work more
make more money
ilx less (prob already failing at that one)

The Reverend, Thursday, 1 January 2009 10:42 (seventeen years ago)

But Virginia, how will you find another job so suited to you? Unless they have a vacancy in the Graceland Library?

I cooked burgers last night and used healthy low-fat pork mince. No good. My first resolution is to make all subsequent burgers from proper meaty mince. This should be easy to maintain. I suppose this implies that I am also resolving to put on weight, though that is not actually the plan.
