Hahaha, we skipped over the third season almost entirely ... it certainly wasn't the best of seasons, featuring uninteresting girls who were also shitty models even up until the last couple of weeks. Basically, they bent over backwards to mold Ann into anything remotely ressembling a model until finally admitting defeat near the end.

This season's bunch is way more talented and better looking.

I was so, so excited for this last night. I am even trying to avoid scrolling up in case of spoilers, yikes. I was sort of baffled by some of the decisions already, and how they didn't bother introducing all of them--one or two of them look really striking. Ditto. Sarah and I sat there transfixed, as ever, and wew were both amazed when Keenyah was eliminated. Naturally we both loved Kahlen, but really, photogenic though she is, she doesn't have the real life sparkle to quite merit the top prize. Naima, like Eva last year, stood out as a *model*, and she totally rocked the final challenge. I don't have any complaints.

I dunno, what staged incidents are you talking about? Rebecca probably faked her fainting attack for the sympathy angle, but I doubt that was the producers' idea. Tyra's outburst at Tiffany? Maybe, though it would be ultra-cynical-to-the-maxxx to take advantage of a fucked-up girl like that. Kahlen and Keenyah fighting to get into go-sees first? I guess, maybe. But overall I didn't really think this - remind me of a few more incidnets and maybe I'll change my mind.

I'm thinking about all those, plus tiffany getting smashed in the restaurant, the lion "attack", flesh eating virus thing, that they would sign a contract without reading it, and more that I cant think of right now. also, how almost every fucking contestant had a sob story and were so incredibly whiny all the time. the overdramatization in this cycle was, in my opinion, a big contrast to previous ones, although I'm not saying previous cycles lacked them, just that they didnt seem as fake(to me).

I dunno lovelace, none of that sounds too dodgy - the contract thing didn't make good TV so why they'd manipulate it I can't think; the lion attack was filmed/the girls were briefed in a way that made it tense TV, but I'm sure lions approach cars all the time and the car just starts moving, no biggie; they all had a sob story BECAUSE they are a) all insecure and feel they need something profound to claim about themselves and b) because they know it works - unless you're saying they faked Kahlen's friend dying, which is just ridiculous.

Re drinking too much free booze - only Tiffany and Brittany getting smashed is almost a surprise. I just don't read into these things what you're reading.

(and dude, criticising TV for dramatising stuff is like criticising lungs for inhlaing air - that's what it's *for*)

Lauren, yes he is, and the first time I saw that little *thing* he carries around I wanted to stab them both. But over the two series I've seen, he ended up coming across as the most likeable and reasonable of the four, with Nigel being too fickle and creepy, Janice being your grandma on angel dust, Tyra being pho to the oney and guest judge being diplomatically anonymous every week.

Jay Alexander can eat a dick, really. Jay Manuel is where it's at. I want him to be my gay buddy.

I guess the judges had already decided that Nic, Bre, and Kim were going to be the final three, so the order of elimination for the other three didn't matter. Plus there's always the chance that Jayla or Nicole will click in the last few weeks, like Eva did.

Basically, once it was revealed that Nik and Bre don't understand the concept of caustic friendship and Jayla was a psychotic ball of hate, there was no need to keep Lisa around until she'd completely humiliated herself by peeing into an adult diaper in front of a camera. I was really hoping that Tyra would bring that shit up but I guess it goes to show that, unlike Tiffany, no one actually cares one little bit about Lisa.

looking at the website again (I've only watched the show here and there), I guess you're mostly right.
Kim's not that attractive - though she is the most model-looking of the contestants.
Jayla's hot, Bre and Nik are gorgeous, Nicole looks much better with the later, curly brunette hair than she did to start.

Jayla's behind-the-scenes are the worst - she goes on about how music informs her look, like OMG, SO MUCH. She's so DIFFERENT in everything she listens to than everyone else.

Interesting final three. I'm kind of annoyed that the judges kicked of most of the insane, bitchy girls, then had the nerve to tell the final 3 "WE NEED FOR YOU TO BE MORE INSANER AND BITCHIER" but I guess they do that every year (except for when they've got an Eva or Mercedes).

I'm really annoyed that just because 75% of the judging panel are psychotic nutcases, they can't pick someone who has it together mentally (whose name isn't Yoanna). They spent all of that time at the beginning going on about sophistication and glamour at the beginning of the season, then when given the choice between the self-described uncomfortable dork and the sophisticated, classy one, THEY PICK THE DORK.
