teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

http://starstarstar.net/forgotten.jpg

I have lots but I'm not posting more until others do.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

That is very goth.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

also a pint for anyone who can tell me why that pic gets cross-referenced under YOUR SECRET GAMER SHAME.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha G to thread, I have seen the most amazing picture of him all gothed up in the eighties.

chris (chris), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Teeny wins already!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

also a pint for anyone who can tell me why that pic gets cross-referenced under YOUR SECRET GAMER SHAME

You were doing a live action version of Vampire: The Masquerade at the time. Except you were out in DAYLIGHT.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

In my old passport pic, I'm sporting a weak-attempt at the Misfits-style "devil lock" and a Bauhaus t-shirt. Someone should've ended up silly life at the time on principle.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha teeny = Patricia from Slacker Comics (probablility of any knowing what I'm rabitting on about = 0.001)!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Alsy Tra "all my gothy picutre are very old, honest" yce to thread.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Alsy = Also

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

haha you're close ned! also andrew I do know what you're on about b/c that picture is of the war memorial in Milwaukee when I was there for GenCon!

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

p.s. anyone going to GenCon this year?

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

GothCon surely is more your speed!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish i had some funny ones to post, but any incriminating photos at my parents'. one i'm quite fond of: me age 15 in a black betsey johnson baby doll dress with ruffled pockets, black midcalf leggings, and maroon velvet converse. several burgundy streaks in hair.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Teeny is that rarest of species, a thin goth girl.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn, mine are all also at my parents.. Most involved my 20-holes DMs and some weird pirate shirt.

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Teeny is that rarest of species, a thin goth girl.

Apparently South Park recently had some fun with the stereotype.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

damn, that's really cool teeny.

there are rumored pix of me w/ robert smith-do and in black, circa 1988. seeing as i had the robert smith-do for all of 2 weeks in 1988, i find that hard to believe.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

teeny wins. the closest thing I have is a pic of me dressed as the walking corpse of Ian Curtis for Halloween.

i worked at AMG at the time, and hardly any of THEM got it, either!

however, the one pic has a bad shot of my gut, too, so the hell with any of you seeing it.

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i worked at AMG at the time, and hardly any of THEM got it, either!

Were you doing the spastic fly dance or not?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

well, i had a trenchcoat, zombie make-up, a noose around my neck, and a little nametag that said "Hi, my name is Ian".

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Some people tried too hard to be goths.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

http://starstarstar.net/shorthair.jpg

age 19 in the dorms, I look 13.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a Peter Murphey tattoo, its a panoramic style picture where is his suplexing Bela Lugosi on some collapseable metal chairs from the top rope.

Oh yeah, they are both crying.

Spinktron 2000 (El Spinktor), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

*where he is*

/fix

Spinktron 2000 (El Spinktor), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

One of Robert's odder photos there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

This is sad, not only was I hoping for more fantastic HOTT GOTH AKTION here (both male and female), but I also realized that I don't have anything to contribute here, because I don't think I have any photographic record of my own brief goth look. Closest I can come is a pic of me in a motorcycle jacket which reminds me of Alex, for some reason.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

goths don't like chocolate!

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I really like your short hair there teeny!

I have a very teengoth pic somewhere but until now, who knew there would be a reason to scan it...

Archel (Archel), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah I know nobody really has their goth shame pics on the web, this thread is made to be revived later. also wtf Kingfish???

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

They like DARK chocolate. Thats so obvious.

Spinktron 2000 (El Spinktor), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

dark like my soul!

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Confectionary is no food for the undead.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

You're taking all the joy out of being a goth, Mikey.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

dark chocolate w/absinthe-creme filling.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Wrapped in Clove scented paper, labelled in Olde English style font.

Spinktron 2000 (El Spinktor), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got a great one from the Halloween we went drunken trick-or-treating at college, but am only playing dress-up.

My goth best friend at college would only eat white food: rice, fettucine alfredo, vanilla ice cream, cauliflower, white chocolate. She also used chopsticks for a whole year.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no secret goth shame, unfortunately, unless you count having the hots for that one girl who also went to First Avenue on Sunday nights.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 23 February 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember when you could smoke in Northern Lights but they'd give it billyo if someone lit a clove cigarette.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 23 February 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the only good pictures are probably at my parents' house, and I'm not going to go out of my way to break my "no posting pictures" policy.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 23 February 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I have one picture of me in a cure t-shirt with lipstick on and my hair looking like Mr. Smiths. But I don't have a scanner, nor do I want to post it.

Chris V (Chris V), Monday, 23 February 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to wear black, but mainly to be a noisy pop lovin' JAMC-wannabe. It was always upsetting if people mistook me for a 'death-rocker'. I would always be annoyed when 'death-rockers' I knew from school would show up at Mary Chain or MBV or even Dinosaur Jr! (well, I guess they did cover the Cure) concerts in full regalia. I don't even remember if I acknowledged them even though that kind of interaction was like, so high-school. Now I realize that to anyone who couldn't care less, I was a death-rocker too!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 23 February 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I owned some Christian Death albums and really liked them.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 23 February 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Y'know on the excellent South Park goth one, that kid who contemptuously flicks his right curtain out of his face every four seconds, that's me, only I have nice clothes

ferg (Ferg), Monday, 23 February 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Hello Kitty's secret goth shame;

http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/_img/hello-01760.jpg

winterland, Monday, 23 February 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

That ain't shame, that's grand!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 February 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, deathrockers. To be a deathrocker you needed a bunch of Christian Death records and cross jewellery and a copy of Maldoror, at least according to the deathrockers I knew (the Cure was pop music for them). They had Bauhaus jackets while I had Cocteau's Boy with a Gun on the back of mine. I liked the Jesus and Mary Chain too, Spencer, but we checked them out due to East Kilbride/Roddy Frame-type things so I FEEL YOUR PAIN.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 23 February 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you should also have to own a copy of this.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 23 February 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay, someone else mentioned a geeky convention before I mentioned mine!

SECOND biggest nerd on the block, Leee Majors (Leee), Monday, 23 February 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

winterland, Monday, 23 February 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Teeny, if you made a homepage for goth-you, you could be a goth babe of the week!

Prude (Prude), Monday, 23 February 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

That last Teeny shot is very winsome.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 February 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not posting the latex dress picture until someone else shares my shame.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

hahahaha. Teeny in a Gaiman Death t-shirt. that's hot.

makes me want go find my Vertigo pin.

(xpost! latex dress! latex dress!)

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Monday, 23 February 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

IZ THART A SUBWAY PRIZE?

BUTTERBROT, Monday, 23 February 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to have a picture of fanny-packing me standing next to a cardboard cutout of Dr. Crusher, would that be enough?

Leee Majors (Leee), Monday, 23 February 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

try it and see.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Latex. Now.

Once again the nerdiest nerd Leee Majors (Leee), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorry I can't share in the shame teeny, the most goth pic of me ever is when my cousin and I dyed our hair this weird shiny maroon and I'm wearing a big goofy medallion 'round my neck. Of course, we're at the beach, which is the least goth setting possible that's not wherever the fuck the Care Bears live.

I could rummage through some pics at home and find some of my old extremely-hippied-out pics. My secret they-used-to-call-me-Jesus shame!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

woooooo! fanny packs! late 80's dorks REPRAZENT!

what the hell is in your hand? some combination waterskin/phaser?

(xpost)

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah sorry, try starting a secret gamer shame thread, I think I have some pics of me and Ed Greenwood.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, not quite goth, but close enough. Here's a pic of me singing in a madrigal group my freshman year of college. (And, yes, I did have tights on.)
http://oak.conncoll.edu/~beats/matt_solo.jpg

Prude (Prude), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in the middle.

Prude (Prude), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

dude I don't even know what kind of shame that is.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

haha!

Prude (Prude), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah! I'm onna delete the pic then. But cmon, the shame is potent, since it was taken in the MID-90s.

I'm holding a Giants cap, btw.

Leee Majors (Leee), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

PS semantics = it's not gamer but trekkie shame.

Leee Majors (Leee), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I think she was referring to me, Leee...

Prude (Prude), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

(still waiting for the latex)

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

That was an xpost to her xpost.

Leee Majors (Leee), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

no, leee's right, I'm spreading the shame around but obviously I have nowhere from which to speak shamewise.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"YOUR SECRET FANNY PACK SHAME"

oh, how could we ever live this down...

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Here's a pic of me singing in a madrigal group my freshman year of college.

HUZZAH!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i was never a goth.
though i did like decadent fin d'seacle literture.

also madigrals are perhaps the coolest thing ever!

anthony, Monday, 23 February 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

They certainly are. We were the only group I know of that still performs in period garb. At the concert from which that picture was taken, we even had a maypole:
http://oak.conncoll.edu/~beats/maypole_1.jpg

Prude (Prude), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

make with the latex!

luna (luna.c), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

thank you, LUNA.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not entirely altruistic on my part, believe me.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

(Or: clearly everyone else is insane - who doesn't want to see Teeny in latex?)

That maypole picture is so Men Without Hats.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 23 February 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorta tempted to talk about the weather or post a kitten picture.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 23 February 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

the Yahoo AP photo server is full of kitten pictures today.

however, the schmuck who's captioning them doesn't want anybody to have any fun, apparently.

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Monday, 23 February 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

talk about the weather

GOTH.

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Monday, 23 February 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

NOT UNTIL SOMEONE AT LEAST APPROACHES MY GOTH SHAME.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

where the heck are Starry and Trayce? i have a photo of me looking vaguely gothy in eyeliner and nailpolish and velvet but it is not in a digital format

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 23 February 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

There are no goth photographs of me because I was never visibly goth and there aren't many photographs of me to begin with; but my first sold story was titled "Straight on Till Mourning." With a u. LIKE MOURNING ABOUT DEATH.

(It was retitled for the collection.)

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 23 February 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Well okay teens, but will you at least email it to me? Pretty please?

luna (luna.c), Monday, 23 February 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck. I could show you something amazingly shameful which I snapped just tonight. But I don't have FTP access to my Web space at the moment.

Not that I'm a goth. Just incredibly black.

ChrissieH (chrissie1068), Monday, 23 February 2004 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

hey look! alex posted (and i'm reposting) carl mccoy from fields of the nephilim!

I only just saw this sorry. Back in a tic, with pics!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, this one is wanky (and old) but its the "gothest" one I can find online, not having access to my home PC with all my pics:

http://people.connect.net.au/~trace/pics17-11-00/tracepose.jpg

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my gawth!

Prude (Prude), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Blimey thats a big pic, god sorry for scaring everyone *laugh*

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey! That is not yesterday :P

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

(Remember it's already tomorrow in the antipodes)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

That's teh sexy!

Leee Majors (Leee), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I dont have black hair anymore fwiw, I got rid of it about 12 months ago - not because I'm sick of it, but because dying it black is messy pain in the arse, so I went for red.

Another one (I'm going to regret this):

http://www.memorygongs.com/15-janietrayce.jpg

(me on the right, my friend Janie on left)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I was never much of a "goth" really. I didnt like heavy makeup or big dresses, I went for cute punky tartan and pvc and red bits in me hair.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha goths always object to being called goths.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you a goth N?

Leee Majors (Leee), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha goths always object to being called goths.

Well, indeed. Except I dont dress like that anymore, and I hate goth clubs and LOATHE goth music, so I'm not sure where that leaves me.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

It seems to be some sort of goth thing, to deny being one. Weird that.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I such a goth it's embarrassing.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i've seen trayce's secret stash of goth music, she's fibbing!!

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Caveman goth.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

What secret goth stash!? Three bauhaus cds and a cure record do not a goth stash make! Well ok, so I have some dead can dance albums. And some sisters (which I didnt buy I might add, they were given to me and I dont like them). And one rosetta stone album. And Cocteaus. And Wolfhsiem....

FUCK.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

*Nelson laugh*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean jeez, even I don't have a Rosetta Stone album. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

yay Trayce, my sister in darkness!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

http://starstarstar.net/latex.jpg

jeez I wish I didn't have such a retarded expression in this pic.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Hot damn.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

PHWOR woman! I want a latex top like that!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

houseofwhacks.com, they're great.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha - how many Robert Smith posters did you have, exactly?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The stockinged skeleton is dancing for joy!

Leee Majors (Leee), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The skeleton is a nice touch. Good Cure posters back there!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually what is that in the lower right corner up against the wall, the goldish thing?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I fear it's a skull mask

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 01:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Or a robot's bustier.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Possibly a witch's breastplate.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a plastic gladiator breastplate left over from halloween of course.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Clarity!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

also trayce, those pics are really really gorgeous.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow.

I'm very drunk right now, but I hope you'll all forgive me, especially Leee, if I agree with the rudish "I'd hit it" comment. Very hot, etc.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

winterland, Tuesday, 24 February 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, I have NO goth pics! Even when dragged to Slimelight I have usually been wearing what-I-was-wearing-before-the-bouze - once I went in orange pink and purple pointy shoes - I hoped they wouldn't let me in but the slags on the door loved it - arse.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

My initials now have new meaning.

i'm not Hello Kitty affiliated in any way, i must point out.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have any pictures but I retain a working knowledge of a) the career of William Faith and b) how to apply copious amounts of eyeliner while walking down the street. Also I made the ultra-goth move (years after the goth phase though) to New Orleans.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I own no Goth photos of myself, but there are people out there who do. It is my mission to track them down, one by one, and...

goth girls are cuuuuuuute (vaguely.)

Ian Johnson (orion), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I like how it takes Sean to prompt that comment.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

heh. i just realized that all you need is a raven or a crow, and teeny's first pic would have all the iconography of your standard horror novel book cover.

also, the lion's head could be glowing. who wants to Pshop this image into reality?

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

sean, that is totally killer.

okay this is probably the worst pic of me that I know of. Sean's pic deserves that I come back with this though.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:57 (twenty-one years ago)

my dear, your definition of "worst" is, of course, inverted.

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Im at home, so I should find some other embarrasing pic for people to point and laff at.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread is a thing of wonder

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

added shame info:
I crocheted that dress myself
I went home that night with a really hot chick and threw up on her bed at an intimate moment
She was really nice and still took me out to breakfast
I never called her back

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Crudders finally lives up to his email address!

I would post my Hampshire College student ID in order to dampen Sean's shame, but it seems to have been lost in the move Midwestwards. (I had a big multicolored froshfro and a T-shirt with some kind of Native American wolf thing going on and I think an arrowhead on a leather cord or something.)

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, the "not calling her back" bit was the only shameful part.

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

me as the walking corpse of Ian Curtis, Halloween 2000. I really should have worn the trenchcoat that night, too.

i would have changed my haircut & haircolor for it, too, but i thought of the costume just two days earlier.

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Me, about to head off to a club night called Doppelganger in Prahran, circa Nov 2001. Lets call it the indie-goth crossover look.

http://www.memorygongs.com/trace_dopl.jpg

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

An old passport wasn't lost.

Tep, 1991 -- for the Hampshire version, add several inches of hair and dye it red, orange, and maroon, and then add sunglasses:

http://www.idea-inc.com/~bill/1991.jpg

I couldn't seem to avoid that glare from the phonecam's display. I did not have a glowing box on my head.

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

That's less "goth" than "roadie for Loverboy," I think.

Prude (Prude), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

haha tep you look like young mr teeny! his hair was red and blue and purple when it was long too.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I have no goth shame, the closest I got was wearing a lot of black. You really can't even pretend to be goth in New Hampshire. You can get a Cure album and a candle and a razor blade and call it a night, but in the morning there's still cows in the backyard.

I'm starting to think I am Mr Teeny.

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 28 March 2004 05:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Sean, you took that like yesterday or something, didn't you?

There is no photographic evidence of my long ago goth shame. There is a more recent halloween photo, but that's totally fake-ass. I mean, I'm even smiling.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 29 March 2004 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 29 March 2004 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Prude, I am astounded and inspired. Does anyone realise just how far he's gone? Forget your shame, teeny and trayce. Compared to Prude, well, words fail us all. They become mute beggars, drunk and incontinent.

My god, Prude. My god. You are a hero to us all.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 March 2004 04:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Wha?

Prude (Prude), Monday, 29 March 2004 06:13 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean how far I've come from my Madrigalicious past? Yes. Yes I have. But every so often I look at my tabbard and tights hanging in the closet and sigh.

Prude (Prude), Monday, 29 March 2004 06:14 (twenty-one years ago)

There are too many dorky goth pics of me on this thread, I just decided. Blargh.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 29 March 2004 06:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I still haven't found anyone who took photos of *my* secret goth shame, which was only a couple of months ago.

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 29 March 2004 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Prude, you are a legend. Now, if only there was a 'your secret dork shame' thread, and if only I knew how to upload photos, I could offer something too.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 March 2004 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

MORE GOTH PICS!!!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got a great one but it needs scanning (Halloween 1987: college students get drunk, go trick-or-treating dressed for the occasion).

suzy (suzy), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, y'know, Colin, the shame in this thread is pretty flexible. I'm sure if you posted the evidence of your dork shame no one would mind.

x Jeremy (Atila the Honeybun), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Well done. If I can find a scanner sometime soon, I will be very tempted to post my 15-year-old goth picture. (I wasn't really a goth in high school, but one summer I befriended a trio of goth girls, and well...)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

there were goth girls in the brook?

oops (Oops), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

It wasn't in the 'Brook -- it was at the Illinois Summer School for the Arts at Illinois St. Univ.

Although sure, there were goth girls at BHS -- I did hang out with Mar1e Rutk0sk1, N1na 0rechwa, and L1z Beaver, too, if they count. (Ms. Br0nkema called them "The Sirens.")

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

(I had a huge crush on Marie my sophomore year of h.s.)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I'm ready to admit my SECRET GOTH SHAME.

Wow, you look great Leefuse 73! What sex are you?

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 21 May 2004 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

marie was indeed a cutie, and nina is still the archetype woman for my friend dan.

Ha ha goths always object to being called goths.
-- N. (nickdastoo...), February 24th, 2004.

Like how ravers these days object to calling raves raves and insist on calling them PARTIES!

BTW the goths on this thread are hot as balls.

LC, Friday, 21 May 2004 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

(that's a compliment)

LC, Friday, 21 May 2004 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

When I were a young goth I did not allow myself to be photographed because I had this idea that it'd be really cool to DIE and leave no photographic evidence that one had ever existed or failing that to leave no photographic evidence past a certain year, therefore there are almost no pictures of my in my black-haired splendor

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Friday, 21 May 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

...but if there were pictures of my in the High Goth Days, some of 'em would be of me fancyin' a bit o' the hard stuff by a swimming pool in Hollywood with goth God Rozz Williams, so catch my goth vapors, all y'all

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Friday, 21 May 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got some crackers, but not the technology to post them

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 21 May 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Are they Ritz or saltines?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 21 May 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Crimped Ritz - the goth's favourite

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 21 May 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

My Sex belongs firstly to Her Majesty, Queen Titania, and secondly, to Lord Oberon, thus, being one of the Faerie Folke, is of Both, yet Neither.

Furthermore, that pic was taken when I actually bothered to prune my eyebrows.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Leee, that is NOT you.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have any goth pictures but my secret goth shame is a huge crush on Danielle Dax.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Sure it's me. You've never seen me w/o my eyebrows.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

You must have a very kind Swedish friend who's allowed you to host that pic on his website.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

...but if there were pictures of my in the High Goth Days, some of 'em would be of me fancyin' a bit o' the hard stuff by a swimming pool in Hollywood with goth God Rozz Williams, so catch my goth vapors, all y'all

I initially misread Rozz Williams as Robbie Williams and was very very confused.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I am/was a Creature of the Night and everything, so of course you haven't seen that side of me.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you seriously used to hang with Rozz Williams, J0hn? I care not about this m'self, I cant stand xian death, but Ive a friend who will have absolute cardiac arrests at such news. She celebrates his death day and everything, its a bit silly really.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

My. Well, John I guess is busy with show stuff or something tonight (mebbe), but I can say that he did know Rozz, and that the liner notes to John's spiffo album The C0r0ner's Gambit conclude with an extended letter to Rozz written after he had passed on at his own hand. It's funny, frightening, thoughtful and moving, and well worth the reading.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I must away and look into this forthwith :) Actually on that note, I'm off to the shops and think I might actally buy me some g0ats elpees. And that new Franz Ferdinand thing. And pay my rent, gah look at the time... tata all.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

If you can find the vinyl copy of The Coroner's Gambit it's got the best presentation of that letter - the CD type is a little dot-matrixy. He & I were drinking pals for a while there when we were both really into drinking rather a whole lot. Last year I finally went and saw his plot at the Hollywood Forever cemetary and it hit me rather harder than I expected it to - I hadn't seen him in well over ten years, and we'd parted on less than ideal terms, but still...old friend, a nice guy underneath it all.

Also, Christian Death with Rozz > Christian Death without Rozz...really Valor shouldn't have kept the name, but he knew Rozz hadn't the wherewithal to claim it legally.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The Christian Death cover of Gloomy Sunday is a personal karaoke favourite of mine.

Yes, thats a tiny newborn puppy in the blanket, dyed pink. I should've called animal protection on them....but I didn't.

papa november (papa november), Friday, 5 November 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Was it dyed pink or was it rolled in the blood of a thousand aborted fetuses?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 5 November 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it not just a newborn puppy being pink, as they are wont to do?

Onimo how can I make my hair look like yours

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 22 April 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

Very hot straighteners or crimpers on not quite clean hair, back combing, more back combing and a load of Boots Unscented Firm Hold Hairspray.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Saturday, 22 April 2006 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

It's shaved at the sides to make it easier to stack up on top. It's really just a messy wide mohawk that's trying to fall over.

Forest Pines OTM.

Grey, Ian (IanBrooklyn), Saturday, 22 April 2006 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, that would be a not-so-secret goth pride--dirty goth secret is going to The Bank to listen to remixes.

Grey, Ian (IanBrooklyn), Saturday, 22 April 2006 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

I published Poppy once, and she helped me get an American literary agent I used for awhile. She's nice.

Kate is still trying to out me as an ex-Goth, but I think I am disqualified owing to my intense dislike for the colour purple, fantasy novels and satin/lace/velvet combos. I tended toward the Warhol Indie Flapper side of things and pretty much still do.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 22 April 2006 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not sure wether to be flattered or incredibly depressed that everyone likes the bauhaus shirt pic of me, which is from 18 years ago when I was about 17 and 20kg lighter than now :( :( :(

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 April 2006 02:14 (nineteen years ago)

(Which is to say, I'm not a fattey now: I was a weedy little 45kg waif in school).

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 April 2006 02:15 (nineteen years ago)

I thought it was teeny for a second.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 23 April 2006 07:34 (nineteen years ago)

O wait, for reference: obviously I'm not the Bauhaus-shirted lass in jaymcs's pics.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 April 2006 07:37 (nineteen years ago)

I relived my secret goth shame tonight while getting wasted at Sadie's Flying Elephant. The jukebox played Bauhaus' "Double Dare" and I shouted the words in a drunken voice . . .

"I DARE YOU

TO BE REAL!!!

TO TOUCH . . .

TO TOUCH A FLICKERING FLAME!

The pangs of dark delight" etc.

My goth shame circa highschool (85-89) was apparent.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Sunday, 23 April 2006 07:59 (nineteen years ago)

Oh my god I wish I'd seen that :D

I mean come on, you can't hear that song (well drunk, anyway) and not wave yr arms about and shout the lyrics!

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 April 2006 08:00 (nineteen years ago)

Wow I am totally doing myself no antigoth favours in this thread am I?

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 April 2006 08:01 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks Drew, now I need to listen to Bauhaus, look what you made me do.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 April 2006 08:05 (nineteen years ago)

Oh my God, Onimo!!!! *dies laughing*

(Goth points deducted for drinking old-skool Tennents Lager rather than snakey'n'black, and BAD MANG for feeding it to small children)

Anne looks embarrassed. I don't blame her ;-p

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 23 April 2006 08:18 (nineteen years ago)

My own secret goth shame will have to remain just that, as I have a morbid fear of getting photos taken. It involved purple & black stripey tights though.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 23 April 2006 08:24 (nineteen years ago)

If I can dig up the goth shame photos I will scan em and put em up here, there are some dodgy snaps for sure.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Sunday, 23 April 2006 08:48 (nineteen years ago)

Drew the few younger-you shots I recall on other threads were adorable so I bet they look ace.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 April 2006 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

Haha Drew - is it a full-fledged Current 93/Coil/Neubauten thing?

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 23 April 2006 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

this thread makes me miss Rozz so much

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Sunday, 23 April 2006 22:17 (nineteen years ago)

My secret goth shame would include going to a "vampire movie theme night", which quickly turned into people biting each other and, later on, "orgies" (the vampire theme had already been discarded, so I guess that's more about my secret hippie shame). Thankfully there's no photographic evidence of all this.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 23 April 2006 22:49 (nineteen years ago)

Be careful conflating the two though: vampirism and people into blood play is NOT the same thing as being a goth. I know almost no goths into blood play, and most of them would snigger at someone wearing fake fangs or being obsessed with vampires.

In fact most goths I know are either roleplayers, IT geeks, or both - they all have good well paid jobs and are extremely nerdy and smart.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 April 2006 23:24 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I know. And I have no idea what "blood play" is - what we did was good old fashioned orgies, nothing too kinky.

Most of the goths I know are LARPers, and vice versa. I think what unites the two groups is this sort of elitism and disdain for "ordinary" and "mass" people, which I've always found the worst aspects of otherwise perfectly okay subcultures.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 23 April 2006 23:37 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah the phrase "normals" (said with some disdain) has come up among people I know in the past.

Personally I found it all a bit of a wank. I just liked the clothes!

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 April 2006 23:42 (nineteen years ago)

I think a lot of goths and LARPers are nerds and geeks who got bullied and rejected as a kid, and want to build their "difference" and "outsidedness" into a positive identity. Which is perfectly okay, as long as that doesn't mean thinking your better than everyone else.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 23 April 2006 23:44 (nineteen years ago)

(x-post)

In Finnish the preferred slur for ordinary folks is "mundies" (i.e. mundane people).

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 23 April 2006 23:46 (nineteen years ago)

I can't believe I'm posting this, but here goes . . .

http://static.flickr.com/46/133848912_ecf54a5e3e_o.jpg

photo taken by my goth girlfriend. I was into gore and blood and things that were "intense", it being high school and all.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 24 April 2006 00:13 (nineteen years ago)

Strangely hottt actually. Real blood?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 24 April 2006 01:49 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, it is real blood. I had sore, bledding gums, and deliberately flossed them really fiercely so that my mouth would fill with blood, then got my girlfriend to photograph the results. What can I say, I was really into the cover of the Samhain "initium" album and was hoping to make my own tribute picture.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 24 April 2006 02:07 (nineteen years ago)

"sore, bleeding gums", it should say.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 24 April 2006 02:07 (nineteen years ago)

The Bauhaus-shirted lass in my pic is, I think, a Manhattan lawyer these days; I haven't spoken to any of those girls in like ten years.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 24 April 2006 03:57 (nineteen years ago)

Drew's photo creeps me out.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 24 April 2006 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry! (though that reaction is why I wanted to make that kind of photo)

Mostly, I was way into these people:

http://static.flickr.com/51/134291253_b054d23f99_o.jpg

which is metal, not goth, but there are strong goth tendencies afoot.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 24 April 2006 16:47 (nineteen years ago)

I think it's the fact that all the blood is from your gums that makes me shudder.

PS. next time you're in NYC plz say hi to Gary from Riot Grrrl Suzy in London. I adore him.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 April 2006 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

Haha I love how vehemently I was denying the goth thing back then wtf ;_; I do like goth music, I just needed to find the right stuff I think.

Trayce, Monday, 13 August 2007 08:38 (eighteen years ago)

You're out of the coffin.

moley, Monday, 13 August 2007 08:42 (eighteen years ago)

Such a photo opportunity missed this weekend.

In a local park a gang of heavily dressed goth teens had sat down in a circle all loudly discussing harry potter.
Almost symmetrically opposite them on the other side of a path was a circle of equally loud topless/stripey shirted/baseball cap chav teens.

And right in the middle of the gangs, two kids, one from each gang, were having a friendly chat

Ste, Monday, 13 August 2007 10:44 (eighteen years ago)

Right. Your task, should you choose to accept it, ILX, is to photoshop the kid those two in the middle are going to have.

StanM, Monday, 13 August 2007 10:50 (eighteen years ago)

(photoshop or draw or lay in a pattern of yellow stones on your scanner or whatevs)

StanM, Monday, 13 August 2007 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

the most recent argento flick, mother of tears, has this scene where goths descend on rome from around the world (they're supposed to be "witches"...they're goths) and it's so good

J0hn D., Wednesday, 17 December 2008 04:28 (seventeen years ago)

My Walmart-shopping, AT40-listening girlfriend and I got to building bookshelves this weekend and taking all of our books out of the liquor boxes and cabinets they had been stored in for so long (in my case over a year). Among her contributions was a thick stack of Sandman comics and trade paperbacks.

This was almost as good as the time I found her CD copy of Death Angel's Frolic Through the Park in the back of a kitchen drawer.

Just out of shot - Cuban heeled pointy toed Chelsea boots with attention-seeking studded strap. The pants were fake leather - PVC was about 1/6 of the price iirc.

cloaca flocka flame (NickB), Thursday, 16 June 2011 21:56 (fourteen years ago)

That's not "cheap" Tennents lager, just normal Tennents lager. As far as I remember the staple goth drinks in Scotland were pints of cider and blackcurrant, snakebite, snakebite and blackcurrant, zombies, bottles of Merrydown, Thunderbird wine and 3 litre bottles of cider.

everything, Thursday, 16 June 2011 22:13 (fourteen years ago)

This is the economical Tennent's option, in it's authentic vintage can:

What are these?
http://completelyinthedark.com/main.php?g2_itemId=12912

They are not goths; in my day they would have been crustie types, I snapped them last year in York as I liked the colours and the light,( so certainly not goths then). Do crusties exist anymore? It is York so things may be different.

I have been away to long and am too old to recognise youth groups.
