Is this in any way close or reminiscent of the real experience? Inquiring minds wish to know. Not that I'm planning to indulge, but damn, it's fun to be a spectator.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

my chemistry teacher gave me a detention the last time i did it.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

shall we set up an experiment?! you bring the acid, and the materails, and the protective stuff, and i'll bring...?
heck why dont you bring everything!
it could still be fun though!

gaol clichy (clichy), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

now you come to mention it, my sister had to go to casualty due to her spilling acid on her hand at school!

gaol clichy (clichy), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously though i doubt it'd be that much fun to be a spectator... i mean - instead of the pretty colours and bears bouncing on a field you get to see loads of people freaking out in your room.

mmm my idea of fun!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I would say it could be slightly unnerving to be a spectator to a group of ppl on acid! Apart from the fact you just will NOT get the joke that they are laughing at!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I MEANT THE WEB SITE!!!!

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

FULES> ALL O' YOUSE! I meant it as in not being an active participant under the influence of the the drug. I find the Flash movies funny AND creepy.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

no, not really, not for me anyway

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I was responding to Ken & no the website is nothing like taking acid at all.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently one time on acid i kept ranting and ranting very angrily about rutherford b. hayes and A YEAR LATER was the 2000 election imbroglio so obv. lsd = psychic powers

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

to be honest it might be jack daniels = psychic powers though

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, you know what WOULD be great?

www.acidcam.com would be well good!! 24-hr a day webcam on a room with people tripping on acid.

Or maybe TRIP-BROTHER, last person to freak and run out of the trip-brother house is the winner.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Nothing at all, but the sequined secret cortex one was freaky.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Glastonbury: Me and a friend, bump into one of his other 'furry freak' type acquaintances, him: "err, no I dropped some acid in my tent.. I chucked my sleeping bag and everything outside, but I couldn't find it".. (and he was quite serious.)

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe he actually dropped it

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

oh wait.. he actually did and i'm a nob. sorry.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I sometimes wonder if people think that simply freaky = similar to LSD experience, which is entirely not the case.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

What I meant was, I wonder how many folks who haven't tried LSD believe every LSD experience is the same.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

DRATS! My plans to non-trip have been foiled yet again!

aye'm jus skeered (to go zany)

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

nope

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Francis, my lsd experiences were more about thoughts and emotions, but visually approached the "lights in the forest" of Larry Carlson. The visuals were just value added, but the feelings were way to intense to describe and each lsd experience was different.

bosie bos, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.orsiitaliani.com/dawn.jpg

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

It's true, everyone's LSD episodes will be very different, but I believe that there are certain characteristics of the experience that tend to be common. For instance, often in movies they'll use fish-eye lenses and other tricks to depict a certain kind of visual distortion. That was very much an element of my own experiences, everything getting all twisty just like that.

Dan I., Tuesday, 2 March 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I would always see the alphabet in the font from the front cover of Mercury Rev's "Boces" behind everything. And my eye always felt like chicken.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

My first LSD-induced hallucination was tactile (I hope that's the right word)...when I closed my eyes I had an utterly convincing sensation of spaghetti coming out of my nose.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmm...I can understand how the funny wacked out shit becomes second nature and can be potentially overshadowed by the heightened sense of emotional awareness. I dunno if I would find sensorial vulnerability as appealing as a merely trippy, ridiculous, and over-the-top visual exp. I know mushies are probably better for that type of deal but I've heard some nasty, scary crap. I just tend to find "acid-influenced" art really neat, which has gotten me curious, is all. W33d makes me hallucinate mildly though, and it's been known to induce strong paranoia in me br4n3...so

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Bottom line is I freak out easily...being a sensitive duder, I dunno if I could t(a)olerate much...well, you see where I'm going wit dees

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't encourage me, dammit! Yoo immoral DEDHEDS!

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

In retrospect it truly doesn't, but at the time it was inexplicably hilarious.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I watched the Kings of Comedy and was convinced that there were people (under makeup and costume) playing everyone in the film. I also watched an episode of the Simpsons on a fireplace.

I was just going to say I can't stop completing the sentence that way when I see this thread title.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

If you're scared to try acid, don't. The "set and setting" thing is a big deal - if you're scared to start with, it will not be pleasant.

You could try something where you can alter the dosage to some extent - a small amount of mushrooms, which will give you light visuals and some heaviness, but go away in a few hours (and little chance of freaking out).

Totally boring for anyone else first trip story -

My first hallucinogen experience period was three hits of liquid acid in quick succession. I was wandering around my friend's apartment complex just barely tripping, he thought he saw a slug, suddenly the big rocks became giant slugs, my trip started in earnest. It varied between 'scared shitless' (giant slugs, little skulls crunching in my mouth and in my orange juice, thinking I would never stop tripping) and "oh my god this is the most wonderful thing I've ever seen/experienced."

These little red threads from the ceiling to the floor and side to side, so it made like a little web I could touch and feel, and when I lay on my side, I could see the threads filling the room (so that one half of my eye was seeing normal and the other was hazy) and when it filled up past my eyes, everything became this shimmery painting, things flowing into each other. I spent an hour staring at a plastic flower in a multicolored vase as the flower grew and morphed and then started over (and the vase too). About ten hours in, someone put on "Say Anything," and I saw scenes and then the audio would repeat backwards. When I got up to drive home (bad idea), I swung my blue jacket around and little blue butterflies fluttered away.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas comes as close to the acid experience as anything else you're going to see on screen. Course, it all depends on the dosage, but the way that movie shows how even the simplest of tasks can become the biggest obstacle in the world is about as OTM as you can get.

maypang (maypang), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Some of Natural Born Killers did that for me.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

without lasting forever and fucking with your head severely

this is probably not too much of an overstatement. i haven't done any for about five years (i did way too much, um, experimenting in school) and i still deal with dizziness, vertigo, etc all the time. i have to take frequent breaks when i read.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

An older friend with experience in these matters (he could tell you what a vinyl record sounded like by looking at it) warned me off ever taking acid because he said I behaved like I was on it most of the time anyway.

if you're scared [of the trip experience] to start with, it will not be pleasant

I disagree, I don't think the small insignificant feeling about being a bit nervous of tripping would come to anything - as compared to other more life affecting stuff that has happened to you, ie I have had bad trips when I have been full of confidence and then WHAM something just reminds me of something shit in my life. Down down down you go son...

And vica versa I had fantastic trips on the first few times I did mushies and acid, in fact if anything they got worse the more often I did it.

Not that I want to promote doing acid because it in part fucked up my life for at least 2 years, but it would be great if multiple people silmultaneously dropped acid and occasionally posted on ILX while tripping.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

My eyes would fall out, probably. The screen is too bright!

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I only took it once. :( But I liked it. I would like to get back into it, maybe when I'm a bit older and more settled. I don't trust my inner state right now.

Oh anyway, the bear in the bubble animation doesn't remind of it too much.

I hardly got any hallucinations, which may be because I tend to be a non-visualizer, or it could be that the dose I was given was comparatively mild.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

W33d? What the hell is that? It took me a second. I actually had one experience on W33d which was as weird if not weirder than my acid experience. Also, I kind of had a mild psychotic episode under the influence of W33d, which I wouldn't really say happened when I was tripping.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 03:27 (twenty-one years ago)

it's so hard to find acid these days. I lost a whole vial of the shit in my house somewhere too.

my first hallucination: laying flat on my back in the dark listening to the Glove, looking at the ceiling, suddenly seeing the ceiling drip. Going into the bathroom, looking at myself in the mirror, I looked just like Leland Palmer.

Later I listened to Adrian Belew's "Desire Caught By The Tail" and distinctly saw the music float out of the speakers in a glowing silver balloons.

I didn't. I don't throw up easily at all.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, it knots up my intestines or something and gives me horrible lower back pain.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 08:00 (twenty-one years ago)

The weirdest thing for me is that I always remember the cool/strange/bizarre stuff (Morrisey's voice changing to Daffy Duck's, etc), but I had to be informed later of all the freaky, psychotic shit I pulled. I have no memories of that, though, just the wild and wacky fun stuff.

So, the moral is (I think): don't do acid if you have a lot of unresolved scary issues.

David A. (Davant), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

(That was Morrisey's voice on the stereo, btw. He wasn't actually there.)

David A. (Davant), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't really think until now how unusual it was that I always did acid alone. I'm glad it never came into my head to do anything potentially deadly.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god, if I'd done acid alone, I don't think I'd still be here. You must have a strong psyche, Dan ;)

i could learn more from acid, if I could find some. Never had enthusiasm for mushrooms, had a girlfriend who sold them so god knows my cheap ass tried to like them, but "whoa look how brown that dashboard is" and crying to "It Sometimes Snows in April" is about as deep as it got and nausea makes it not worth it. Salvia chewed me up and spit me the fuck out last week, transported me to another, subtly terrifying dimension and made me forget that I was ever in this world in the first place. I'm thoroughly humbled but intrigued.

Way more of a mindfuck - stronger hallucinations, stronger disassociation (on mushrooms there was never a time when I didn't know I was me, this was all going to finish soon enough, etc.), during bad times a sense of helplessness.

But I'm not sure my doses of mushrooms and LSD were ever equivalent. Much easier to take three sweet tarts than eat a shit ton of mushrooms.

when i was on acid i wanted to hang out with dogs, but not when i was on shrooms

max, Monday, 21 June 2010 04:10 (fourteen years ago)

i am prob never gonna do this bc w33d used to make me dissociate so hard and i didn't really enjoy it and i already always want to hang out with dogs

Hans-Jörg Butt (harbl), Monday, 21 June 2010 04:19 (fourteen years ago)

w33d doesn't do that to me anymore but just saying, i don't wanna do that

Hans-Jörg Butt (harbl), Monday, 21 June 2010 04:20 (fourteen years ago)

drugs always seem like they are worth it, but a lot of the time they arent really.

max, Monday, 21 June 2010 04:22 (fourteen years ago)

pot is always worth it though, always

I have a policy against telling drug stories on a public forum but max if we ever meet up remind me to tell you about the wonderful confluence of peaking on acid & horseback riding

in a word i'd say the difference was acid felt "cleaner".
which might sounds strange. i didn't feel like i had been poisoned like mushrooms does to you; with the puking and weird stiff neck (or maybe that was just me).

xpost - THAT SOUNDS AMAZING

yeah seems pretty worth it to me

most worthwhile acid experience i ever had was probably when i ate a tomato

least worthwhile was watching 6 straight hours of mtv jams

least worthwhile was watching 6 straight hours of mtv jams

this was a v. v. bad trip?

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 21 June 2010 04:34 (fourteen years ago)

nah it was fine it was just one of those... you know how when youre tripping you can stare at literally anything and its entrancing... and my friend had disappeared so i just sat there watching... and then the trip was over and i was like, did i really just watch the video for 'throw some ds' sixteen times

max, Monday, 21 June 2010 04:39 (fourteen years ago)

i mean at least with bad trips theres some perverted sense of bang for your buck, this was just, a waste of a tab

max, Monday, 21 June 2010 04:40 (fourteen years ago)

it is very hard to waste $5 the way you did there.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 21 June 2010 04:42 (fourteen years ago)

felt like i missed out on some really sweet insights about the nature of the universe and the interconnected web we call "existence"

max, Monday, 21 June 2010 04:44 (fourteen years ago)

'throw some ds' contains some really sweet insights about the nature of the universe iirc

Possible sign I'm getting old: I don't even know who my first contact would be if I wanted to procure hallucinogens.
