not w/the quiz part, though, as I already know too well I have OCD or else I would not be apologizing for the appearance of the text in the above post.

andy, Thursday, 4 March 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to half-sleeve my left arm but I'm not sure what all I'm going to include. The next thing I'll do there will be a cover-up either incorporating a Texas theme or an anti-teaching theme. whichever design could cover up best.

Viva La Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 4 March 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Sam I think covering up a Texas design is one of the (many) things that can catch you a death sentence. But an anti-teaching tattoo sounds very boring and un-Sam-like (because you're not boring, not because you're pro-teaching), so yeah, Texas it is.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 4 March 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

or just don't get the tattoo

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 4 March 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

An anti teaching tatto could be very cool, but how do you represent that in a diagram/picture?

mei (mei), Thursday, 4 March 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

no, the Texas theme would be a cover-up of some dumb kanji. my artist had the anti-teaching idea. something involving broken pencils or the like.

I have one TX tat and plan to get many, many more.

Viva La Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 4 March 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I need a cover up, too, of a really ugly dragon's head tattoo... I think I want another lotus.

i am more into black magic markers anyways.

I think the bar code is a fantastic idea - especially since it means something important.

I think I'll get a brass-knuckled fist framed by broken pencils and graffitti.

Viva La Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 4 March 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not necessarily as important as it could be, though, which is why I'm not sure and why I keep putting it off. Partly I want to ring myself up at the cash register, after all, which I don't think I can do with this bar code, since it's not being sold many offline places.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 4 March 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Saturday, 6 March 2004 07:03 (twenty-one years ago)

three months pass...
A few months ago, I saw a show by this artist who had all these old posters, of like cowboys and johnny cash and stuff, and there was one that was just this bird...as i recall, it was sort of a detailed line drawing, black and white, of a cuckoo, maybe? upside-down, like it was diving. anyway, i think it would look good on my arm and now i have birthday money and want to get it done.
i have been doing google searches for so long trying to find something that looks like it, because i am fairly certain i have seen images of that bird before. i have clicked through page after page of images. pictures of pet birds. pictures of dead birds. pictures of slovakian models.
i guess this is really more of a google question than a tattoo question, isn't it? kind of, maybe. but what should i do? i've always wondered where people find their tattoo designs. i know a couple of people i could probably get to draw something like this bird for me, but i don't even really know how i'd describe it to them because i always skipped my art history lectures and therefore i have no idea what style it's in or anything. someone told me it looked vaguely german expressionist, so i did more searches and couldn't find anything. and also, the bird's inclusion among cowboys and johnny cash stuff doesn't really scream "GERMAN EXPRESSIONISM" to me. but maybe, i don't know. maybe it was some kind of secret inside artist joke.
so here is what i want to know: do you happen to possess the world's largest collection of antique bird posters? do you know someone who does? or should i just draw my own damn bird? should i even get a tattoo of a bird? it's gonna be pretty big.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Ew, a moon and sun kissing! Well, I figure I've wanted it for a long enough time and i want it enough that wanting it and not having it is no better than having it and not wanting it. and also, if you really, really want to, there's always something you can do to cover up a tattoo, right?

Got new tattoo as part of my Christmas from Kev. I'm really really pleased with it. Been contemplating this design for ages (kokopelli) and felt that the time was right.

Stork - babies

I have just booked my appointment for my first (and probably only ever) tattoo. I went in and arranged it but didn't have the money on me for the deposit. When I came back the guy asked me what price we'd agree on; I told him i didn't remember (even though I did). The receptionist asked the artiste again and ended up accidentally knocking twenty quid off.

It's gonna hurt like fuck innit?

Image is not coming up for me.

I am achieving AMPERSAND TAT in August on a trip to Albuquerque.

Abbott, Thursday, 3 May 2007 23:44 (eighteen years ago)

i'm thinking either this:

(think it means 'strength')

or something with more of a tribal vibe like this:

i think the chinese one is classier though

I was thinking abt getting a USB symbol triton thingding on my wrist, parallel t my arm & w/the prongs right above the palm of my hand. However, I'm worried I'd have to 'splain it to THE YUNGUNS of the future for the rest of my life.

No idea where, though.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

That's really interesting. The whole thing including the square or just the triangle and the star?

And what is it/where does it come from?

Uptoeleven, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:16 (eighteen years ago)

Probably the silver bit in a dark colour (pyramid and antenna) with skin replacing the black bit. It's the Spacemen 3 logo - I know, band logos, really stupid, but it is such an interesting design in many other ways - triangle/star symbolism etc.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)

I knewed I recognized it from somewhere. I'm not sure where I would suggest locating it. I was originally gonna get mine on my lower back, mainly due to the symmetry of it and that would probably work for yours, but that is the so-called "tramp stamp" location innit? Even if the design is not at all one of them.

Side of the foot maybe?

Uptoeleven, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:23 (eighteen years ago)

Speaking of which a friend of mine recently had one done there. It's a cartoon of a teapot pouring tea into a cup. She was drunk and on K at the time.

Uptoeleven, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:23 (eighteen years ago)

creme, are you either Chinese or, um, Celtic or Maori or something?

Mark C, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:26 (eighteen years ago)

I like the idea of having it somewhere not necessarily exposed unless I choose to (working in a corporate environment and all). My current tat is on the left upper arm, above the t-shirt sleeve line, but bloody hell, it's impossible to get girls shirts that aren't all cap sleeves these days.

Is yours on the inner or outer side of your leg?

I like the idea of tats as slightly hidden, that a flash of them is like some kind of hidden knowledge.

I'd love to get the S3 thing on the nape of my neck, just below the hairline, but daren't. I want it somewhere *I* can see it, though. So perhaps side of foot would be good.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:28 (eighteen years ago)

Outside of my leg. It had to be somewhere broad enough to accomodate so much poetry. Your point about being slightly hidden is a nice one and on reflection perhaps the inside would have been better. too late now.

i'm not supposed to expose it to UV for 4-6 weeks which means I can't wear shorts. sucks. although, i don't mind the idea of it fading a bit and looking slightly less fresh. wish my bleedin' hairs would grow back though.

Uptoeleven, Friday, 4 May 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

I'd prefer a picture of a hot dog bun, but the word "friday" in it instead of a hot dog. And a big "X" through it. NO HOT DOG BUNS ON FRIDAYS.

OK, what are the strangest tatoos someone you know has? One friend of mine has a Howard the Duck tattoo on one arm and a Crusty the clown tatoo on the other. Thankfully, they're incredibly well done. Another guy I met recently has a huge portrait of Carl Sagan on his calf. Very um . . . unique?

ENBB, Saturday, 5 May 2007 04:23 (eighteen years ago)

More pressing question - why did I all of a sudden forget how to spell tattoo?

ENBB, Saturday, 5 May 2007 04:24 (eighteen years ago)

haha flying nun logo.. i'd forgotten about that idea.

there's a part of me that wants to get the whispering penguins from the inner sleeve of rumours..

electricsound, Saturday, 5 May 2007 04:24 (eighteen years ago)

Hold on, how do you spell tatoo? I alwys thought it was two t's, but then the place i went on monday had a neon sign with only one.

Confused.

I have a friend who has a tat of Kermit the Fraog standing up in classic bent knee pose, holding a big crucifix in his left hand. She got it because, as she said, "I love Kermit and I love Jesus."

RUMOURS penguin tat would kick ass.

four months pass...

my friend is looking at getting a tattoo on her body side, but she suffers from psoriasis.

How much of a problem would this be? I've heard that it could flare up with a tattoo, she suffers mainly on her legs and elbows.

I insisted on the ladybug bc she enjoyed playing gently w bugs. The pain was superficial, not particularly serious but also the thigh is a meaty area.

I could feel the difference from one side of the leg that’s more fatty (interior) than the other one (exterior side)

I think I’m hooked. Definitely interested in doing this again next time I get inspired.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 16 August 2019 00:32 (six years ago)

I love the colors.

(I almost got a tattoo of my dog as an astronaut at one point but I couldn't commit and instead got an oil painting a la Turner of him riding a dolphin)

absolutely booming tattoo La Lechera

I don't know which my next one is! I'm running out of space on my left arm but there's some spots where I have ideas...I have enough now that it's not a giant deal to get one, like I'll get something on a lark, but the ideas I have for the spots to fill in never quite solidify. A coelacanth is one that's a strong contender (my left arm at present has a vulture, a crab, a snake, and two non-animal heavy-metal-related pieces)...but also, pandas are greatly loved by my younger son, so I think about getting a panda, but then I fret that vulture / crab / snake / panda leaves panda kind of the odd animal out

she carries a torch. two torches, actually (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Friday, 16 August 2019 00:43 (six years ago)

Thanks! It barely hurts now that I took 2 ibuprofens. I saw an actual coelacanth irl (preserved in a tub in the Field Museum) and I endorse this idea!

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 16 August 2019 00:46 (six years ago)

Wow, supercool design!

My gf just got her first tattoo (a really sweet bonding thing with her three best friends) & was asking me if i'd ever get one, after thought the only thing I could imagine paying tribute to permanently like that is my beloved cat. it may be in the cards.

Love it, who designed it LL?

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 16 August 2019 00:56 (six years ago)

The person whose Instagram that is — her name is Julia Campi0n3

Also I gotta say that the way she said “we’ll take this at your pace because this is your first time” showed me that this was going to be a good experience She checked in w me a number of times before it became clear that as long as I was talking about music, my dog, or my job I was sufficiently distracted from caring about the physical sensation. Would recommend her without hesitation!!

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 16 August 2019 01:08 (six years ago)

Without knowing me at all she had set up the Spotify station around a Can song!!! It was fun talking about Mother Sky while being needled.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 16 August 2019 01:09 (six years ago)

That's a lovely tribute, LL. I also got my first ink this year. Inner upper arm; the parts closest to the inner elbow and armpit were FUCKING JESUS CHRIST THAT HURTS but I am nevertheless planning to fill in a half sleeve with two more pieces.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 16 August 2019 12:31 (six years ago)

That is such a great tattoo it's making me rethink about getting one

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 16 August 2019 12:41 (six years ago)

I recommend following artists whose work you like on Instagram! I followed mine after erstwhile ilxor Carl Agatha got a tattoo by her and since have enjoyed both her images and captions. Knowing who she (the artist) is (as a person) a little better helped me decide that this was the right thing to do and helped me feel safe and confident about the decision.

I feel different! Also the magic of having my dog with me forever seems effective. I feel like her spirit hasn’t disappeared.
