Anyone in London fancy a pint after work tonight?

In honour of Dave B's brave move last week. For the first Friday in ages I have nothing planned after work this evening, and I am wanting to drink BEER.

Anyone up for this? Say, Lyceum Tavern on The Strand, if no one has any better ideas?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 12 March 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going for a pint in the RAM bar at Exeter University at 5.30pm if anyone fancies a pint in Exeter! I'll sign you in as a 'guest' if you like, too.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Friday, 12 March 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

No thanks, I've been there. It's a shithole.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 12 March 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

But hey, if they still sell Seabrooks crisps...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 12 March 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmm, the Lyceum does Poutine, don't they? mmmm, Canadian goodness...

I may be going to the movies to celebrate HSA's mum's birthday, but I think she cancelled.

Besides, I have to celebrate my NEW JOB!!!!! don't I?

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 12 March 2004 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate! Spill!

suzy (suzy), Friday, 12 March 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to Oxford after work. Any good pubs I should know about?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 12 March 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes there are.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 12 March 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahem. Try the King's Arms at the corners of Broad Street and Parks Road, although it may be full of *spit* students. If you want a proper touristy olde worlde pubbe, try the Turf Tavern off Bath Place, which is very close to the previous pub.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 12 March 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

the KA is a hole, if it's not full of styouuuuuuuuuudents (surely they'll have gone home for easter now anyway) it'll be full of gawping tourists...

the turf is marvy but v small and difficult to get a seat.

for a taste of the true oxford go to THE GRAPES opposite the appollo, which is either the best or worst pub in ox, often at the same time.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Not the KA - it always has been and always will be shit. I think term has ended at Oxenford anyway, so the Turk is a better bet. (I always liked the White Horse, and they do terrific ciders, but it is as tiny as my waistline).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Lovely - thanks y'all! Sorry Matt - onwards with your London beer-quest.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It is a shithole, Matt. We normally go to the Jolly Porter, which, as well as being a real pub, is also cheaper (wtf?!), but Dr. D@n N0rth, much-loved friend, football teammate, doctor of special effects and drinking buddy, says it's "too far to walk" the lazy sod, and will only come for a pint if we stay on-campus.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I heart the Turf. Go out in the beergarden (if it's not too cold) to see the original Medieval wall of Oxford! Really worth it! Don't bump yer head, though.

New job. Yes. Designing a marketing database for a Dyslexia programme. Part time consultant basis, which suits me perfectly. I start on Tuesday (I think) so you may have to see me Mark's FAP in a SUIT! Ha ha!

So what about LONDON tonight then?

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

kate, it's traditional to bump your head when you go to the turf ;)

i'm just about up for beers ce soir, having crawled off my sickbed into work this morning, solely so i didn't feel bad about going out otnight/rest of weekend :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay Kate, congrats on the job lady!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, you people enjoy your London/Oxford/Exeter beers. I shall enjoy my Portsmouth wine.

Poor Steve! Take care of yourself, petal - this will involve lots of medicinal beer obv.

And mucho job congrats for Lady Kate. Hurrah! Now you can take control of yr own wallet again.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

going to see Camera Obscura and Trashcan Sinatras in Shepherd's Bush tonite! so will possibly be getting a pint there instead sorry.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS GIG. I have an unhealthy obsession with the Trash Can Sinatras. How did I miss this? Grrrrr

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i can make it along tonite, i do have something to celebrate so...

gareth (gareth), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

(xpost)

Thank you Ken C for saving me. There is a 2nd show on Sunday and I just bought a ticket...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I shall try to be there. Well done Matt for starting a post-work beer thread before that post-work time starts. Top tip for all future imptomptu FAPs.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

am drinking round City Road way later probably but will try and make it to this

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

hurrah rob! should be a good show. i cannae wait for tonight

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Um ... does anyone fancy coming to see Busted at Wembley tonight? Freebie ticket and everything. Please.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this with you, or instead of you?

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Busted = good.
Wembley = bad.

Coo.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

ME!!!!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

No really, me!!!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

YES YES YES YES PICK ME ANNA PICK ME, PLEASE!!! SEE THE SPRING CRUSH THREAD FOR DETAILS, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CAN I GO TO BUSTED WITH YOU?!?!?

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

With me. I'm reviewing. Fight amongst yourselves.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Or Kate, I do already have plans to go and play some Scrabble tonight. I am not exciting enough to deserve it, quite clearly. Look, I didn't even use capital letters. Oh just kill me.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Starry vs Kate FITE!!!!!

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Middle of Russell Square at lunchtime, I want to see blood running into the fountain.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah I'm too boring to fight. If it matters so much to Kate she can do it. I'm not very interesting after all. Moan.

(I am in a really good mood today actually but you wouldn't tell would you, sodding ILE in bringing out the worst in people shocker).

Sarah (starry), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Mwah hah hah. And I thought I wasn't quick enough on the draw. All caps does it every time, sad girly fan that I am. ;-)

(It's just the enthusiasm of the new job showing through the severe hangover.)

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw man!

I actually had an offer of Busted tickets as well but for 25quid a pop which I can't afford and they are being sold as a double and don't know anyone else who wants to spend money on em :(

Sarah (starry), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure you'll enjoy it in a different way than I would, all I ask is don't tell me about it.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post, oh god no, not the fountain. HSA has nearly pushed me in it too many times. The best time was when he lost his balance trying to chuck me in, and ended up in it himself. And then the programme changed, the fountains went up higher and he got soaked. That manouver always works.

Aw, sigh. Catty was trying to get me to go to Busted but I didn't have the money either at the time.

X-Post. Not talk about it? How can I do that? How bout I ring you and play "What I Go To School For" down the mobile for ya? Or would you murder me? ;-)

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, that was the closest ILX has come to Mascara Wands At Dawn in a long time. ;-)

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes

Sarah (starry), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, why don't both of you go AND write Anna's review for her and she can come to the pub?

Pete (Pete), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

But still have a fight anyways, for the crack. And add mud to the fountain.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I would *LOVE* to write Anna's review for her. Busted are one of those bands I was not ALLOWED to write about at CTCL.

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I need a consolation pint right now :)

Sarah (starry), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

No, no one is coming near the review, because it is a test piece for a proper newspaper. If I don't screw it up they should give me lots of work. I am very nervous and feel a bit sick.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Best of luck with this Anna!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no, don't work for a proper newspaper. They'll close it down!!!

(Good luck obv - this is what you went to school for after all).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I have never written for J17 - I am not a harbringer of doom.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

But you are the queen of ruin.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

aw so it was anna who ruined my christmas last year?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup. She is insidious. And is going to have a fab proper newspaper job very soon! Go Anna!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

SO back to the reZ, what time ce soir.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I shall be there between five and six, barring unforseen circumstances (ie going for a drink with workmates first).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, I'm not sure about this. Wednesday was my first time out since the op, and while I thought I felt okay, I've felt worn down and achey since. I'll try to come if I feel okay later - gotta go out soon, so I'll see how I react to that.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Anna, if you read this, ring me back! Don't know if HSA wrote down the number wrong, but there was no answer. I left a message on the ansaphone of someone named Suzy, I think?

Promise will be good and not try to besmirch your good, pure, proper review. Honest. Maybe I will write mine OWN review. Ha ha. It would make Julie Birchill look like Mary Whitehouse. Heh.

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

about half five

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

NB i take it we are more than likely to be UPSTAIRS, for anyone who comes in and thinks "oh, there's noone here"

[insert peter noone pic here, thx]

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep, upstairs is a given I think, the booths downstairs are bad for large groups (tempting fate here, aren't I?)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I am afraid I'm going to have to miss this (I am feeling ill/my replacement iPod just turned up and I need to go home and make sweet sweet love to it), so I'll say here: good luck with the newspaper gig, Anna!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, this is a Busted thread now. Why do you persist with this FAPping nonsense? We may have to revive the "Who is the hottest member of Busted?" debate from Wednesday. ;-)

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

good luck with the writing gig anna.

unfortunately must record shop tonight.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

There might be a real person coming with me to this...

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

how unfortunate Julio! but maybe if you buy some good records it will be okay ;)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

James Bourne? Share!

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

It now looks like I am going to see Busted too!

I am tired out from all this shennanagins and now worried about standing by myself in the middle of a bunch of tinies looking like an uncomfortable and bemused MUM.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

it will be okay steve, it will be *winky or something*

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

now worried about standing by myself in the middle of a bunch of tinies looking like an uncomfortable and bemused MUM.

There is a solution - hate Busted and indeed all such things. I never end up surrounded by tinies looking like a mum.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I've often heard you look like your mum, though.

It's the headscarves.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Right. Which one of you post-kickabout FAPpers grassed up my transvestite confessions?

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I might do this, depending how quickly I can get the washing up out the way.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 12 March 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Having been out, I don't feel up to coming out tonight. Sorry, Matt. Added drawback to going out: it being the one time in a hundred when I fail to carry an umbrella, of course it started pissing down.

I'd wish Anna good luck too, but I'm not convinced there is a lot of luck involved here, just writing ability, and I know Anna has that. Ah, good luck anyway - I mean, they might get into a fight onstage or something else to make your piece irresistible (like some American woman rushing the stage and flinging herself at one of them, say).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 12 March 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

yay kate! congrats!

since i'm already back home from work, i think i should be able to swing this. although it looks like it might be matt and me

colette (a2lette), Friday, 12 March 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

how VERY convenient ;)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

oi, i'm there, and meg, and ptee i think (and mypete). and almost certainly tom and possibly tim. will that do?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 12 March 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

yay! loads of people!

stop trying to deflect attention from our secret affair, stevem...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 12 March 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Daaaave - is your work email address the one here, just with the obv. bit taken out?

Anna (Anna), Friday, 12 March 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

So, er, where is this again? I think I'll be in the west end later...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 12 March 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

hyar

come drink to your new job bucko

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

which means the totty quota will be exceptional, especially for a pre-theatre pub. There are numerous nooks, crannies and booths downstairs, which are ideal hiding places to cement the relationship with some student totty,

Jesus H Christ, that is a terrible review.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 12 March 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

yes....it is.... (rubs hands gleefully)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah, there is no way that you will be the oldest person there. Because that will be me. Sigh. this is why I'm glad I'm going with Anna, we can keep each other company. At least we get to sit down! Woo! I wonder if they will have a mum's section.

Rushing the stage? me? never! (talking my way backstage claiming to be a world renowned Musicologist and the country's foremost expert on bubblegum pop in order to score a private audience, oops, I mean, interview, well, just maybe...)

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 12 March 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

WE'RE GLAD WE CRASHED THE WEDDING!

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 13 March 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Did Kate get her hands on any of them? Do you have interesting things to say?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 13 March 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Teenage Dreams, so hard to beat...

Ohmigod, I feel like Mrs. Robinson.

Anna, did you get the article finished in time?

Oh, it was freaking awesome. Yeah, even the ten minute prog drum solo bit with the ever-rising drum riser. It's true, prog is the new punk. I like their new free jazz direction. They covered the Black Eyed Peas. it was hysterical. Fireworks! Band members popping up onstage out of hatches! All three jumping into a big box at the end of the set and disappearing. They are the bubblegum Spinal Tap.

Anna and I managed to survive right through to the encore being all "Yes, we are professional. We are journalists. We are here to observe!" and the moment Petriedish left the journo section to go down the pub, we were both on our feet pogoing and playing air guitar along like the rabid teenybop bubblegum fans we are. Hah! (We even started our own fake bubblepunk cover band on the tube home!)

Who cares if they had a session guy in the back to play all the difficult guitar bits? Who cares if James' in-ear monitor kept falling out and he kept going off key? Who cares if they had a rubbish "no, really, we're an indie band" section with dire sub-Camden grunge ballads in the middle? Because 30 seconds into the next song, the Monster Riff hits, and sticks to your brain and two weeks from now I'm still going to be humming "Air Hostess, I like the way you dress..." and getting funny looks at work.

I mean, there was guitar-windmilling! Did I mention the fireworks? One of them was wearing a Fred Perry. My Boyfriend (emphasis on the Boy part) was wearing a Blink 182 shirt, but I was choosing to ignore that. It just pointed out the difference between American bubblepunk and the Brit strain. American bubblepunk tries to be funny, and just ends up crude. British bubblepunk is much more repressed, and therefore actually manages to be *witty* and even the comedy songs are *still* funny the 300th time you hear them. Cause bubblegum isn't actually about sex, it's about longing.

But I do also have to say, MAN, I want a job on their marketing team. There was not a single second, including between bands videos and adverts, that was not dedicated to squeezing the maximum marketing potential of the evening. Because the estrogen coming off that crowd was a medical miracle. If I were a teenage boy, I'd have dressed up like a member of Busted and bought a ticket in the middle of the crowd. We saw one or two boys that had, and oh my god, they pulled.

Errr... maybe I'll write a real review later, if I can be bothered. We're supposed to go to Margate to look at this electricity substation where HSA wants to do an installation. I've never been to Margate. Is it spooky and strange and warped like Southend?

The River Kate (kate), Saturday, 13 March 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

It's where Tracey Emin comes from, and you're certain to get lovely chips.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 13 March 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Will I be able to eat the chips or will they be super-fishy? Ach well, slight allergic reactions make the world slightly more buzzy anyway.

Should I be nice and give my souvenier Busted scarf to my mate Catty who couldn't make it, or should I be selfish and keep it for wearing to future FAPs?

The River Kate (kate), Saturday, 13 March 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I just re-read my post up there and wanted to clarify something. It sounds like I said I wanted to be a teenager again. Fuck no, you could not pay me enough money to be a teenager ever again, even if it were possible, that would be fucking awful. What I want is the ability, the passion, the lack of cynicism, to be ABLE to get as excited and passionate about music again.

The River Kate (kate), Saturday, 13 March 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Dammit. Kate I am so jealous. I want to see Busted!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 13 March 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i heard rumours of Glastonbury...

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 13 March 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Give the scarf to Cat or she'll kill you. It really is that simple.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 13 March 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

There were rumours that Busted were going to support Bon Jovi in Hyde Park last year, but they didn't.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 13 March 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I got a close up picture message of Charlie last night with 'Charlie says hi' written on it! It wasn't from Kate or Anna, though.

Thanks for coming out everyone - good turnout for a last-minute affair. Also - rowdiest FAP ever, especially once all the girls left. I don't think the staff at the Glasshouse Stores were very impressed.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 13 March 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

!!! you lot were at the GHS?

cis (cis), Saturday, 13 March 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Only briefly at the end of the night. The Lyceum was kinda rammed so we went for a change of scene. We were very drunk. There were some blokes in there being total wankers as well. We tried it. The bar staff were very upset. I'm not sure we'll be allowed back for a while :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 13 March 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

!! details pls!

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 13 March 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The most woman-free FAP ever or what? And it all leads to criminal behavior! Ha ha, all the girls went to Busted and the boys got busted.

The River Kate (kate), Saturday, 13 March 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I blame Dave B's Real Person.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 14 March 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure we'll be allowed back for a while

does this mean, oh no, you won't be coming out on Tuesday, oh no?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 14 March 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Will Stevem be able to come out without his heterosexual life partner? Oh no!

The River Kate (kate), Sunday, 14 March 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

We left the Lyceum and went home. I wasn't aware that there was GHS plans. You brung it all on yourselves for keeping me and my real friend in the dark.

Dave B (daveb), Sunday, 14 March 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

So go live in the house of David if you like!

The River Kate (kate), Monday, 15 March 2004 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Who's David?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 15 March 2004 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

You stupid bitch!

(OK, someone please prevent me from starting a meta-joke-thread called "Busted And The Jews" talking about how "Who's David" is really a thinly veiled anti-Semetic metaphor for the Palestinian situation... I mean, using the words "blah blah blah... SO I INVADED" and then rhyming that with "THE HOUSE OF DAVID" I mean, that's some pretty political content there for a bubblegum song. Please dear god, I'm having awful Kula Shaker flashbacks here, what with pretty public school boys making ill-advised anti-Semetic comments...)

(And besides, dammit, now I'm looking for the lyric sheet to get the exact quote, but HSA seems to hidden the album for some reason... ARRRGGHHH!!!)

The River Kate (kate), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

'Crashed The Wedding' is a direct reference to Caina, 'Year 3000' actually refers to the time of NOAH, and 'Sleeping With The Light On' is a moving testament to the struggles of Moses's people as Egypt was troubled by the horrible asp

stevem (blueski), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

they even covered 'Hark The Herald Angels Sing' for crying out loud. New single 'And Rachel Was Turned Into A Pillar Of Salt' follows this Summer.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Stevem, you scare me sometimes. I think you might be worse than me. No wonder you fancy the one with the eyebrows. ;-)

The River Kate (kate), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone who doesn't turn up on Tuesday because they got barred from the GHS has to send at least THREE people in their place. By order.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

:(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

You didn't seriously get barred, did you? Blimey. That must have been some rowdiness.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Who was involved exactly?

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you might be worse than me.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Me, Matt DC, Magnus, Tim, Tom and Tim's friend. We just went for a quick last door sharpener after we couldn't get in for a curry at Chowki's (mmm, Mangalore goodness). We went downstairs and it traspired that the long wet walk had made those of us who weren't at the bar needed a piss. When we got back to the table another bunch of callow youths were dumping all our stuff on the floor. I have to admit I got a wee bit lairy, and things were exacerbated when one of the youths stepped back into Stevem spilling his pint.

Much bravado and shouting (to replace the flying of any fists) resulted in us being turfed out and told not to "fucking come back". Heigh ho....

Pete (Pete), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh dear. Mind you, I was getting a bit sick of the GHS anyway.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Land sakes! You think they'll remember you by tomorrow? Wear a mask.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

It'll be fine - Alan got banned before once, remember? They change their staff every six months. Best lay low for a while though I think.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope you haven't queered Barry's pitch.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

an anecdote by PETE BARAN there

stevem (blueski), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Or Lairy Ptee, as we will term him from now on.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Pete I told you blaming it on Stevem wouldn't work!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Tom, you can't lay low, that's the point. You can't just not come tomorrow.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Sadly this one is actually true :( :( :(

I used to go into the GHS at least twice a week. I'll have to test the water before tomorrow.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still coming Mark, i will be incognito. i'm not bringing you a present though because I don't actually like you THAT much. ok poppet?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Barry will cry into his lasagne! Besides, they really won't turn anyone away early evening, when the downstairs has been booked for a private party.

See how many limbs you get broken, Matt, report back, and we can vote on whether it's a good idea or not.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Somebody should phone ahead maybe.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

That chap with the rapidly receding hairline/bizarre inverse monk cut seems to have been there for ages. He was a bit off with me re stupidly loud music when I was in there last week and I'm sure I remember him being behind the bar about 18 months ago when I did the monopoly pub crawl of d00m.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

you had a ghetto blaster with you at the pub??

ken c (ken c), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

No Ed.

Ugh idiot ILx0rs. Yes though I was getting a bit blah about the GHS'n'all, it was still a good stalwart. I am safe anyway so will be along tonight. Tico, I recommend you smear some tomato ketchup on your face and tell the staff you're Andrew WK.

(back on ile then!!)

Sarah (starry), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

TOMORROW, durrrrrr.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah (starry), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Ed, you really are getting oversensitive there. Check the "Busted and the Jews" thread!

The River Kate (kate), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Ed (dali), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 March 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Damned thing doesn't even have a clock I ought to send it back.

Ed (dali), Monday, 15 March 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

YYYYAAAAYYYY!!! Just wanted to say that I got the Evening Bastard this evening, and Anna's review is ACE!!! Just perfect!

(BTW, I do have to give the scarf to Catty because she is going to make me a special B-side compilation featuring Busted's cover of "Mrs. Robinson". What was I just saying? Oh god, I hate being right sometimes...)

The River Kate (kate), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I stumbled across a Standard on the bus and was please to discover Anna's Busted review. Hail The Kings Of Bubblegum.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it on the interweb? I didn't realise it was in yesterday's paper :(

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, but you need to register with the Evening Bastard to read it.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Which offers a 30-day free trial but asks for credit card details 'for your convenience'. Yeahright.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Post it here!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't give details like that to Associated Newspapers unless they have money for me.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

ALL HAIL THE BUBBLEGUM KINGS by Anna Fielding.

Busted? is a pop band wot the kiddie like. Here in Webley Stadium home of English Football, you can finally get what it is wot the kiddie (some in their uniforms straight from the schools) like about Busted band. Charlie has nice cheekbones, but plays the progressive rock drums a bit too much for his own good. But the pogogogoing punk parents even Crashed The Wedding and Year 3000, which is one of the few songs about a bloke named Peter - even if he is a science nerd.

(Apologies: to read the real reviews you will need to give me your credit card details).

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a perfect time for someone who has subbed to the substandard site to pretend that they did it just to read Anna's review and not because they are crapola.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, Anna, I think Pete is after your job! Fantastic review, you'll be working at Smash Hits in no time!

The River Kate (kate), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)
