I think one of the funniest lines on Daria was when they were going paintballing and one of the dorky kids asks the Vietnam veteran type teacher "will we be running a buddy system on the trip"

And he just seeths and his eye bulges and goes, "I HAD A BUDDY ONCE, THEN I GOT HOOOOOOOOOME, AND HE'D MARRIED. MY. MOOOOOOOTHER!"

OTM. When I was in high school and the show first started, I hated it, because I was like, "What the fuck, it's just like hanging out with the guys in the smoking section, so what?" After I'd graduated and caught it again in reruns, I said, "Holy shit, it's just like hanging out with the guys in the smoking section, that's genius."

I fall asleep watching one of the King Turd B&B DVDs (which, if you don't know, Google it now) more often than not. I've gained such an appreciation for the sublime beauty of this show of late (which I failed to properly appreciate in high school as a result of being surrounded and thoroughly unamused by Beavis & Butthead analogues). It's very pure in its display of abject stupidity and as dead-on a satire as Office Space and Idiocracy, albeit more unjustly dismissed.

Given that context, the tone of this first episode felt (kinda unsurprisingly) a bit off to me. Beavis & Butthead were a little too...mellow, maybe? And I get the sinking feeling that MTV might've twisted Mike Judge's arm to include excessive references to their shows. But it still hit the spot, and I look forward to seeing more.

The first one was better than the second; coulda done without hearing the word "porn" repeated a million times b/c it betrayed a lack of better lines; but the line about pornography being the study of porn was a nice one.

Based on this one episode, I think it's the same quality as the last season from the original run, when they started doing more of the joke where they're inserted (huh-huh) into other shows, like "Leave It To Beaver," "Star Trek The Next Generation," etc

MJ: Yeah. I had this idea that he would, when he blows on his thumb, channel a rock critic for a while. I had David Felton in the studio at the time. He still works for MTV, but used to be a Rolling Stone writer, so that stuff just comes out of him like it was nothing. I said, just gimme some rock critic stuff, and he started feeding me lines. I messed it up and made it Beavis-like.

B&B had relatively good taste.

MJ: Originally, in the very beginning, when the show was starting, I thought, well, if B&B like something, maybe that’s an insult to the band. Then I decided, even though they’re really stupid, that they have primal good taste. I didn’t really set out to be a rock critic, but that part of it was actually pretty fun.
