Dates, Locations. How about not a Sam Smiths pub, ducks.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

FAP for Tom, Ally, Londoners, other 'Merkins obv.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

if I was Tom or Ally, I wouldn't want to be called a merkin.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I was about to say, this thread title is begging to be...perverted.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Common sense and basic counterintelligence (Cl) awareness can effectively protect you against foreign intelligence service attempts to collect sensitive and classified information. Some security tips you should employ include:

• Do not leave sensitive documents or equipment unattended in hotel rooms or stored in hotel safes-such information should be stored in appropriate secure facilities.

• Do not discuss sensitive matters outside official US offices-hotel rooms or other public venues are rarely suitable for sensitive discussions.

• Do not use computer or facsimile equipment at foreign hotels or business centers for sensitive, proprietary or classified matters.

• Do not divulge information to anyone not authorized to hear it, including personal information about yourself or colleagues.

• Ignore or deflect unwarranted inquiries or intrusive conversation-provide nondescript answers; leave talk to someone else.

• Keep unwanted material until it can be disposed of securely-burn or shred paper and cut floppy disks in pieces and discard.

• Keep your personal computer as carry-on baggage-never check it with other luggage and, if possible, remove or control storage media.

• Take the time to use secure communications equipment at any appropriate US Government establishment.

• Report any CI incident to the relevant US Government agency.

NOT ME, Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I was totally like "why would May have more merkins than any other month?"

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

'Ignore or deflect unwarranted inquiries or intrusive conversation-provide nondescript answers; leave talk to someone else.'

No FAP small talk for you then.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

'I was totally like "why would May have more merkins than any other month?"'

Old English tradition, wear a new merkin every day during May.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Well the advantage is that it also sounds like a sale at Perkins, but obviously different.

"Come on down for Merkins May Extravaganza! You never know what you'll find!"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

oh I know what I'll find, that's the problem.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Calm down dears. It's really a very good merkin.

Oh the pub then? I suppose I could have a Ribena.

Haha, Ed doesn't want a Sam Smiths.

Haha!!

Mikey Winner, Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

leave talk to someone else.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'D LIKE TO SEE YOU TRY.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Other Merkins includes Carey?

I'd strongly hope for the Saturday: I have zero change of weekdays off, and don't want to miss this.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and any night that is Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday is fine by me but I am not into a multi-night extravaganza FAPtron for many various reasons.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

drinks on tuesday and FAP on saturday?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

which dates are we talking about anyway?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, won't it already be Wedensday morning by the time we land?

19-23

TOMBOT, Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway my helpful suggestion is that we pick a place that is hard for all the natives to get to and not even really that close to our hotel, and then everybody show up two hours late. Yes.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, For me I can't do Friday or Saturday because it's my grans birthday. Wednesday or Thursday anyone?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Saturday is bad for me, but Wednesday or Thursday seem ideal options. Whereabout is the hotel, the steering committee shall get busy.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Perseverance, Lambs Conduit Street. Good indoor an doutdoor drinking opportunities.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

What like the Lamb? That's out of the Perseverance's doors and just down the road and is much nicer.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope this is central, like within walking distance of Oxford Street.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

(Within walking distance of the Spanish bar you mean).

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh good, I'll look forward to this. I get back from Barcelona on the Tuesday night, so Wednesday or Thursday are good for me.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, conduit street is fine for me (but then I have no alcohol dietery requirements)

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

MapQuest Europe sucks ass. Chancery Lane stop, right? Today, I go shopping for maps.

BTW is it on purpose that you picked the one street featuring a "NYC-style deli" called "GoodFellas?"

TOMBOT, Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd say Russell Square was closer, but it depends what line you are on. Anyway, this is not confirmed because it is not near enough to the Spanish Bar.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

"the" Spanish Bar

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I think Ed picked it because its got a police station up one end.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Reasons for Picking:

I like it, tables outside, and I know where TOm + Ally are staying. Lamb is a pretty good choice too, and over the road. We've fapped their before to great acclaim. Plus they have the ordinary.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The Lamb has a surviving Snob Screen which is worth seeing.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

(i'm confused, conduit street is just of regent street, so nearest tube is oxford circus, oh but now I see, Russell Square hotel district)

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Lamb's Conduit St

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Spain is but a 10 minute walk away.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Thursday it is then, whatever time is good for people, 6 or 7? I know bars close earlier there. Ed, as he said, knows where we are staying (Russell Hotel) so I trust him to pick a place that would be reasonable for us to find.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub302.htm
http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub77.htm

choose, both are very nice. We could even perambluate between the two,

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I am put off a bit by the mentioning of "loud clientele" in the Perserverance one, any rebuttals? I am leaning towards the Lamb's.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Why do I keep reading this thread?

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Secret homoerotic crush on Tom?

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"Secret," "homoerotic," "Tom," etc.

...or alternately...

Why? Has Tom been talking about me? (Nervous giggles.)

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Has he been! Dude, he tattooed your name on his ass! It's kind of off-putting from my perspective, to tell the truth.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess we just have to wait for Pete to get back tomorrow and tell us where we are going.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Man...fuck London. Just come to Chicago.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I am thinking as of right now Lambs on the Thurs at around 6pm or 7pm is the best option.

xpost dude you should come with us to London, you could use a vacation.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

A vacation from my job that I've had for a month? Where I don't do anything? Also, fuck London.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't even HAVE a job and I need a vacation, wtf, seriously.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah keeps talking about vacations and trips she wants to take and I'm like hello, we've lived in Chicago for 4 months, have you exhausted all of its possibilities already?

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Chicago kind of sucks, though.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe, but:
New York City is for sellouts

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm surprised "fuck London" isn't bringing a firestorm upon your head, actually.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Those lazy bastards are all asleep.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

FCUK London. All the other London people are down the pub or out and about.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah it appears that to get to either of the pubs Ed has suggested all that is required is to walk out of the hotel and head south and try not to get hit crossing the streets. Hooray for Ed again.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm "working" on an essay about The Idiot and Notes from Underground! FUCK LONDON.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I am "working" on getting a VMware image of NT 4.0 SP6a to run Exchange Server 5.5 but I am not in any shape to deal with setting up a primary domain controller for the isolated lab network we're supposed to be baselining with so I am actually "working" on reading the news and junk.

I am really excited about London. The weather better be nice.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

The Russell Hotel is of course the home of Virginia Woolfe's Bar and Grill

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, she serves behind the counter there most nights.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

This is like that Jeremy Bentham thing, isn't it.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

A more tenuous link

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

especially seeing as she lived in fitzrovia

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

It's be great if they did have Virginia Woolf stuffed in there though, wouldn't it?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Jolly German-style.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Just FYI, dead bodies will put me off an establishment, this is a proven fact.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Last weekend we visited the Holocaust Museum and saw all three war memorials on the national mall.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

There are no actual dead bodies in ANY of those places; also I do not recall stating at any point that I'd like to meet up with 40 of my friends there and have a few rounds and a nice chat.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"Everyone! It's my birthday! Who in this bitch wants to go down the Holocaust Museum and throw a DJ set?! Open vodka bar starts at 8!"

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude!!!!

TOMBOT, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Good thing I'm about to leave work or I was about to hijack our own FAP thread with a list of Kompakt Records parody mixes dealing with Hitler's Final Solution

TOMBOT, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

OK maybe you missed the part where that is the worst idea I've ever put on ILX.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a terrible person

TOMBOT, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Just don't tell Matt about this, ok?

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Maiden.

Spinktorbot, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Reinhard Voigt - "Die Andere (Spinktor's I Hate Them All Mix)"

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael Mayer - "Showers (Zyklon B Edit)"

TOMBOT, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

OK when I realized my next suggested remix contained the word "Auschwitz" I realized this needed to stop before we start attracting really "interesting" googlers.

Allyzay, Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, since there are three ILXers now working for UCL, owners of Jeremy Bentham's remains, and Pete, Ken C and Liz all work for close affiliates, we could have a FAP in front of his body. Except it's sort of a corridor, rather than any kind of bar.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Why so arghsome, YMOF?

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

No time off. It's not like I'm got to come over on the Thursday evening and return the next morning.

Oh, who am I kidding, it's a lot like that.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

The Lamb then? 6pm? Ok - I must eat beforehand...

Sarah is ruined, Friday, 7 May 2004 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

7pm?

allyzay, Friday, 7 May 2004 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Farrell TAKE FRIDAY OFF FOR FUCKSAKE OR ONE DAY YOU WILL KILL YOURSELF DOING THIS!

7pm? This be mentalism. 5.30 dammit.

Thursday is cool for me, as is any night other than Friday. If we are felling really adventurous we can try and sort something special and exciting out for Saturday as well. Possibly involving dancing.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 May 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Lauren here at this point or does she hit London a week earlier?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 May 2004 08:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Er can someone actually tell me WHICH Thursday this is? Blimey. You start a FAP thread sans steering committee and look at the confusion.

Seconded Matt's advice to YMOF: call a sickie or something!

Sarah needs crisps, Friday, 7 May 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

JESUS CHRIST YOU GUYS ARE STAYING IN THE HOTEL ACROSS THE ROAD FROM WHERE I LIVE!!! WEEEEX!!!

(OK, it's not directly across the road, it's kittycorner, sort of, but still. Freaky close. I've lived there for nearly a year and still never known anyone who actually stayed in any of those hotels.)

(PLease go to the Virginia Woolfe Burger Bar while you are there. Please.)

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The 20th.

The only way I could get that Friday off is to get fired beforehand. But I don't mind the round trip, I'm stone and steel, me.

That said: Hey! Ally! do you and Tom want to hang around some on the weekend instead, or are you busy then?

Also drinking starts at 5.30 because drinking ends at 11.30

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 7 May 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

it is the thursday that is between 19th thru 23rd. I think that makes it the 20th, Sarah buut I am so bad with all this maths and calendars and shit likethat, i am like mentally deficient when munmber are einvolved. i thnk it is the 20th tho. I hope you come, I'd like to meet you. and yeah, andrew just call a sick day and come in Thursaay evening, i am sure we will stilldrink til the late so come on downr then twe will go to a club and i will make an ass of my self as awlwarys buut it is better tha missing that no? or perhaps you have seen enough of me making an ass of myself while drunk.

xpost kate turst me we wil lgo to the virginia woolfe burgert bar, we are lazy in terms of searching for things. if you live across thye road perhaps I can come by after work and steal your hairdryer? it it of utomost importanc to me as when i do not blowdry my hair, it tuurns curly and i do not like that look when i have hair shorter than shoulder lenght, as now. i wiould go buy a hairfdryer but i will not use again for a long while! uneil i get ajob at least and ca n afford to go to london a bit more regular, right. anyway i t seems a waste to get a new hairdryrer, can i borrow yours? I will definitely buty you a drink, at the virginia woolfe bar if you like, if you lend me. i am quite "wealthy" at the moment, take me up before i pay my bills.

Allyzay, Friday, 7 May 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

andrew we can ahang out on the weekend right but not hte hole day, like amybe thre ehours ok? i dunno if it is worth it to youto come on a saturday for thre ehours or to come to fap on thurs and see lots of people forfour hours or so? anyway i dunno mand tghe 5.30 thing, i need to let loose a bit as evidence right now.

allyzay, Friday, 7 May 2004 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yes, Ally, I will definitely trade my hairdryer for a drink at the Virginia Woolfe Burger Bar. (HSA and I are so amused by the name of this place, but we never have an excuse to go.) Feel free to stop by and pick it up! I'll email you our exact address and phone. I don't work Tuesdays or Thursdays (usually) so that's good.

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

okemail me at alk2102@columbia.edu that is the email i check the most. I would love to meet up with you (and HSA if poss), and will def. buuy you a drink at said bar, now you have a reasobn to go to the stupid hotel bar. i realy just picked this hotel becauase A) i found a really good rate for it, note the cheaptest but good B) IT HAS BATHROOMS, someonme tell me what is up with theat? like right, when i lived a bit downtown i lived in "tenament buildings" right, which is basically dorm rooms bastardized into smallish apts. now all of them were refurbished with bathrooms however small they were--why on't they dot his in europe, refursiosh the old rooms with bathrooms? surely they realize this is U&K rigth? the main reason i picked this hotel wasn't even its centrality, tho that was good, it was the bathroom thing,k seriously. i was willing to pay $300 a night if necessary to get ap rivate bathroom. am i insane or does anywaone else agree with me on this?

anyway kate what do you like to drink, i like vodka drinks would you like a free one of those or do you prefer beer? whatever, i will give you at least two if not more for the hair dyrer (my hair without is frightening)

allyzay, Friday, 7 May 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

the thing is im embarassing myself and making mepeople not want ot meet us but the thing is i am not tired i want another drink damnit.

allyzay, Friday, 7 May 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, excellent! Meetup would be great. HSA will drink nothing but beer but I'm happy to drink fancy coctails. I'll email you so you remember when sober, ha ha, I have it writing. PIMP MY HAIRDRYER!!!

I don't know what's up with the bathroom situation. I've never stayed in a hotel in London. I mean, there are enough of them on my street...

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously it was a drama for me to find a htel that had en suite bathrooms. most of them have floor-share bathrooms. i am a spoiled brat, having left university at 18 and going to work for th company that OWNS ritz-carlton, i have only stayed at VERY posh hotels since age of adulthood so i cannot fatho m this sutiation unfortunately. i wish i had ever tayed in a dorm or hostel but alas. i need my own bathroom. i will pimp your hairdryer, trust me, ihn exhachange for many drinks if necesaary. i HATE my hair esp now that it is close to natural clor and not red, therefore i cannot trick peopel into thinking it is good hair by the striking color. no it is crap hair, crap hair that frizzes without a strict blow dry regimen. sob sob sob.

i am so drunk my god i am so sorry. everyone should crash our hotel roo mthrusday night we only really want to hang out occasionlly right like the main fap can go on til the wee hours but not spill over, do you see?

allyzay, Friday, 7 May 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

this is one of the more odd (and entertaining) FAP threads i've seen for a while. i'm so coming.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Did we ever decide if the FAP was at the Perseverence (boo, hiss) or the Lamb? (Yay! I heart the Lamb!)

Or are we just adjourning to the Virginia Woolfe Burger Bar for that authentic Bloomsbury Voibe?

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know either. but it seems that ally wanted the lamb, and since it's half her fap, shouldn't she get to decide?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

The Lamb is in Time Out's Pub of the Year list, according to Pumpkin Publog - I assume this is a good thing.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, I just saw that. The "loud" atmosphere in the Perseverence is their way of saying that it's always full of annoying yuppie cnuts. The Lamb is full of locals, weirdos and freemasons. Plus, they serve WAGGLEDANCE which is the honeyed beer of the gods. (Not Mead, unfortunately.)

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Ack, x-post, I know nothing of this "pub of the year". It is a nice pub indeed. Lots of strange cartoons of Victorian politicians on the stairs up to the loo. Though the loo in one room, sink in another across the hall business is a bit disturbing.

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Several FAP threads are at the top of "New Answers". It must be Friday. Or we are all just a bunch of drunks.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Lamb sounds much, much better than the Perseverance.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Lamb is best.
You are staying even closer to my work than you are to Kate's flat, which means you can easily obtain free internet access from me if needed. And of course beer in my bar too. The Lamb from 5:30 seems like a good call on the 20th.

There used to be a awning over the front of the Russell Hotel which my Dad made, but they pulled it down ten years ago. It is nevertheless a wonderful building fromthe outside, a great neo-gothic pile of a place. The rooms can apparently be a bit poky *the hotel bar is quite nice though and Russell Sqaure is lovely if its sunny). And in walking distance of everywhere.

You are also very near the Hairy Tortoise, for cheap lunches.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 7 May 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I've stayed in a few London hotels (obviously not since I lived here) and never realised any lacked ensuite bathrooms. I stayed in the Russell Hotel once, and a female friend (not a girlfriend) needed somewhere to sleep, so I said she could share my room. I was getting my key at reception and she said to me, quietly, "This makes me feel like a prostitute," and I think I blushed.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw Martin, how cute!

You are staying even closer to my work than you are to Kate's flat

I think they might be closest to my work, though. Jaysis. Well, if you want to sample the delights of the BRANE HOSPITAL canteen...

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll get the massive London measuring compasses out and compare.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

OK just making sure before I take off: Lamb, Thursday, what time, 6ish?

Also, I've made plans for that Saturday so please disregard my previous missive about having an hour or two to spare on Saturday as it is not on.

Allyzay, Thursday, 13 May 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

DRINK MUCH FOR MEEEEEEE

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 13 May 2004 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too plz.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 May 2004 04:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Hopefully I will be back by then. Suzy will have power thingies if I am not.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 13 May 2004 06:22 (twenty-one years ago)

When come back bring Futurama.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 13 May 2004 06:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Should I book the next day off work (the side question to this being are we going DANCING?)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 13 May 2004 07:22 (twenty-one years ago)

hurrah, more beer!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 13 May 2004 07:40 (twenty-one years ago)

bugger, I'm at a posh country house all expenses paid booze up wioth work on that Thursday (the free booze kind of makes up for it I suuppose)

chris (chris), Thursday, 13 May 2004 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

But I shall be there, and pretty early, as it's a 5 min walk from my workplace, too.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

are you sat next to each other?

yes ally, this is ENGLAND, we do our drinking from FIVE until ELEVEN :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't jest, this is the first time we've been more than 100 feet apart since April 24th. And the 20th will be our first night apart since we got married, so I'll need to drink lots to help me sleep and cope with the seperation.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

aw BLESS

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

sniff

chris (chris), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:18 (twenty-one years ago)

::boaks::

Just kidding, you two.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be in the pub from 3:30. Probably. For I am all day drinking whore.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 13 May 2004 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

mmmm, 3.30...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 13 May 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Should be back on thursday and work are insisting I take friday off.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

What a personal disaster.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

So, what I'm understanding is that everyone in London lives and/or works within 15 minutes' stroll of Russell Square. How nice, I wish our stateside FAPs could turn out like that.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

man, I'm like an hour plus from Russell Square. I am the exception to the rule.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

jel lives in Birmingham?

TOMBOT, Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

yep, Birmingham, Alabama

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Lawks. I'm broke. I'll be on the c#nting tap water. I'll try not to be too bitter.

WA! BITTER!!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

That's near the White City stop, then.

xpost I feel better now.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, I'm about a 20-5 minute walk west of Ealing Broadway.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wow, you weren't kidding then at all. OK I am now going to spend the next three hours playing with the TubeGuru. This thing is like a video game.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

If it's any consolation, jel, that's how it is for me and every FAP I've ever gone to save the first one.

Allyzay, Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

and for me at every FAP now (mind you, it is a handy stop off on the way home)

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

London is so mindfuckingly big that central FAPs are about the only way we can coordinate the thing - there's a reason why everyone rolls out straight from work (with the exception of Chris who probably works closer to NYC from what I gather).

I love working in the West End. The more I think about it the more I'm convinced I could never work anywhere else in London.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 May 2004 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

with the exception of Chris who probably works closer to NYC from what I gather

And of course gareth, who although he doesn't live in the US might as well do, with occasional commutes to his office by heathrow.

Ed (dali), Friday, 14 May 2004 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes by Gareth could work in the pub itself and would still go home in order to turn up at 8.30.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

London is so mindfuckingly big
http://itsbinourworld.free.fr/macross/macross_images/Macross1/sdf-1%202.jpg

TOMBOT, Friday, 14 May 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Not that mindfuckingly big.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 14 May 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

You've gotta admit, the bird's pretty lanky too.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 May 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

ALthough hovering japanese schulmadchen would be good

Ed (dali), Friday, 14 May 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I now work even further out than Gareth and Chris. Fucking Maidenhead!

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 14 May 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that's meant to be me.

Allyzay, Friday, 14 May 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Does Tom know?

Ed (dali), Friday, 14 May 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Rick, your job is fucking maidenhead?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 14 May 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Are there any extra openings?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 14 May 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you miss Anatomy 101, Dan?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 14 May 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I did say "extra"; I don't what's currently filled.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 14 May 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Regardless I'm sure there's more than one position I'd be interested in.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 14 May 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

how come i only just found this thread??

looks like i will be out every night this week up to and including the weekend - i'll see you wise-ass bigshot amercans on thursday

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 16 May 2004 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

and i used to go to central London FAPs from fucking Ruislip Gardens so don't try it

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 16 May 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i was even later to this thread than you steve!

i like the lamb. i will be there shortly before 7 i suspect, having spent all day teaching in cambridge for the last time this year, thank christ.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I have booked Thursday off work for flathunting purposes, and am ready to rock!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

so will matt be really drunk from having the day off work/spending the day in the pub? and will you be bringing your new flatmate to this?

colette (a2lette), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh crikey I forgot this was this Thursday. I'll have to get me hair cut on Wednesday then. Ah socialising.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I have cancelled the other plans I made from Thursday, so this had better be good, AMERICANS. I mean, I expect the usual old bobbins from the London set, so you know LET'S MAKE THIS ONE TO REMEMBER!

NB booze + me != remembering things very well I admits.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

and will you be bringing your new flatmate to this?

she's on the prowl... ;)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

heh, starry otm, i'm sick of the lot of yers...ah jus kidding. shame the Lamb is so far from Iberia...or is it?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The distance from the Lamb to Iberia decreases in proportion to one's need for Ruin.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I have booked Friday off work, I was totally wrong up there. There will be no new flatmate as he doesn't hit London till mid-June.

IRISH BAR!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Little lamb, who made thee?

William Blake (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Incidentally, any Merkins will be pleased to know that it is dead nice and sunny in London and this doesn't look like changing till Friday.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yikes the Irish Bar, the last time I was there was when poor RickyT went all green in the face from booze :)

Sarah (starry), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

was that the one time i was there as well? this was the night it took me about five hours to get home iirc

stevem (blueski), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Incidentally, how many Americans are likely to be here? I have four in my head, plus another four or so London-based ones.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

But how many merkins are in your head?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

And are they twistin' yer melon, man?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

NB I will be in a good mood after THREE DAYS OF TANYA IN BAD GURLS.

Steve - think so! Not been back since :)

Sarah (starry), Monday, 17 May 2004 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

it is a thursday, there is always the pint pot (after the lamb) ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It's gettin' hot in herre...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Bad Carsmile.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it was Mr M. I somehow walked the wrong way out of the bar and it took me ages to get home.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

wah I do not think I can make this :(

cis (cis), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

by the way, what/where is this irish bar?

colette (a2lette), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

it's near. the DJ in there played Status Quo 'Rockin' All Over The World' last time we were there i've just remembered. Shock and not quite awe.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The Irish Bar of which we speak is a nasty boozer in Kings Cross which opens late-ish. You wouldn't want to take many people there, unless you were Pete.
-- Tim (hopkinsti...), January 10th, 2003 10:18 AM.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

irish bar is "dun a ri" (sp?) round the back of kings cross. it's not really all that, but it is open late.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

The Dun-a-ri at Kings Cross which stays open until 2 am.
It is not nasty (certainly not if you compare it to the Spanish BAr. They have always been very friendly to me in there.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

so we're taking people who are visiting from another country to a 'nasty boozer' that isn't all that?

(xpost- pete explains it in a slightly more flattering light)

colette (a2lette), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

it didn't strike me as nasty particularly

stevem (blueski), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

All the late night bouzers are nasty in one way or another. Anyway, it is what we call local colour.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

colette, have you seen the pics of siberia in new york? it's certainly no worse than that looks...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

fair enough. more local color than they'd get at some place like lush on upper st, which is also open late...

unbelievably i've never been to spain. i don't think.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 17 May 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought the Irish Bar was only open til 1am?

Sarah (starry), Monday, 17 May 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Siberia is kind of a shithole that only serves 3 types of beers, yeah.

Allyzay, Monday, 17 May 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

why the hell did i not get to drink a 40 in Siberia??

stevem (blueski), Monday, 17 May 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

No one gets to drink a 40 in Siberia!!! Our friend Luke once brought a 40 into the slipper room but got made to leave.

Allyzay, Monday, 17 May 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

(Only serving 3 kinds of beers is not a bad thing as long as one of the beers is good. I assume this may not be the case in Siberia).

Pete (Pete), Monday, 17 May 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

They serve Red Stripe which is ok but not really something I want to spend hours drinking. Otherwise it is Heinekin and...hmmm. Something really unsuitable, some American generobeer. I forget.

Allyzay, Monday, 17 May 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Red Stripe is no session lager, I'll give you that. No fair enough. Siberia suXor.

Whereas the Lamb has lots of lovely Young's ales to quaff.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 17 May 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Has it been mentioned that a Merkin is a hair-piece for the pubic region?

Spinktor, Monday, 17 May 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I think so. (BEST FAP EVAH, BTW)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 May 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Spinktor go back and eat your damned cicadas.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Does the slipper room accept or deny flip flops? My last name - Murchie - became Merkin because of the, yeah, well, you know, the origins of nicknames. I should never have worn my Bette Davis merkin with my flip flops!

aimurchie, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

what time is this starting? i need to buy some speakers somewhere along TCR before coming out to play...does anyone have a favorite sketchy (cheap, preferrably) shop where i can buy computer speakers?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, someone please tell me where this FAP is happening exactly. I'm too lazy to scroll through the whole thread. Thanks.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

yes! summary of where and when, link to the fap website, and suggestions for where to buy computer speakers in the area.

(i'm feeling greedy because i just got a lovely new pocket drive from the evil ones. yay)

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The Lamb. Conduit Street. From 6pm. Look on Streetmap. Pointing and laughing at funny American accents. I am planning to dress "British" for the occasion, and therefore will be wearing a suit and roller skates so I can careen through the streets of London in the out of control hilarious manner of 17th Greatest Briton Of All Time, Michael Crawford, cheers.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

cool thanks, I would've ended up going to Holborn.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i should probably dress up as well to maintain my ridiculous 'sharp dresser' rep according to Kearney. Or I might dress as Kid Rock.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I can virtually walk to Regent Street from Ealing! I am not dressing funny.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Regent Street?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Rick tells me I've fucked this up, but I note he hasn't posted corrections, so I'll leave that to him.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The Lamb is on LAMB'S CONDUIT STREET. This is NOT the same as CONDUIT STREET.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Lamb's Conduit Street! I see, not the Lamb, Conduit Street! It's kinda far, I hope to be there.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

you can walk from Holborn

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Lamb's Conduit Street is a microscopic alleyway (into ruin) judging by Streetmap (it points to Doughty Street)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I love that London's streets are so arcane. It's like you have to have a PhD in mapreading in order to get anywhere.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it's great!

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

You can only get into Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese via a complex set of underground tunnels, one of which leads into the subterranean river fleet where you will be taken downstream and bundled into the pub cellar by dwarves.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

that's no way to talk about the plump barmaid...

i'm 98% sure i know where this is, but hey! how lost can one get?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

very?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

why it's happening here bemuses me as where can people go after 11.20 - i hope people are still up for the Irish pub

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

or Secrets nightclub (i think that's what it's called)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

You can only get into Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese via a complex set of underground tunnels, one of which leads into the subterranean river fleet where you will be taken downstream and bundled into the pub cellar by dwarves.

That's no way to talk about the royal family.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

That's no way to...oh forget it

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

11, home!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

steve, it's no more than fifteen minutes to the spanish bar/soho, and considerably less than that to the irish.

also IT IS A SCHOOL NIGHT YOU MENK

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Not for some!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i plan to work still drunk the next day

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

You are a stronger man than me, Saint Even.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub77.htm

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 20 May 2004 06:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I can no longer make this as I am going to the F00tball Wr1t3rs Award5 do < / wanker>

Am open to offers to nobble Terry Henry.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 20 May 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

a firm handshake would suffice

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 May 2004 08:28 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks julio-- this actually looks really easy to find. lamb's conduit street is what red lion street is called north of theobold's road, looks like...

i'm already hung over today from attending AND WINNING a pub quiz last night. woo! it was only my second quiz that i've participated in, and we won big cash money. yay!

i think i may be dead by sunday.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 20 May 2004 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Jebus, it's even closer to my work than I thought. Eaaaaaarly doors for me hurrah!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 20 May 2004 08:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i may be dead by 11pm tonight at this rate...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 20 May 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Am open to offers to nobble Terry Henry

i didn't read that as "nobble", i think i simultaneously read it as three other rude things...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm having to man the search room for late opening tonight, so I won't be there until after 7pm, but if anyone needs to do any family history and knows of an ancestor who worked for the post office, or anyone suddenly discovers they have a hankering to find out what fantastic things we have in our archive, then you're more than welcome to pop along before the pub!

No? Oh well, see you at 7.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

liz, i reckon i can out early you as i've been here since 8 so can knock off early...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

When come to pub, bring stickers.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I can get there earliest. But I probably won't.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm going shopping first. so i won't be first. unless i fail miserably at shopping.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I go to eat PIE first so no early doors for me either!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm doing a bit of shopping after work, but expect to be there by six.

Vicky, the only person I know who worked for the post office is me, back in the mid-'70s. Does that count as history? I can't imagine what data they would have on me, after those brief holiday fill-in stints.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 20 May 2004 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I should be there around half 7, I reckon.

jel, Thursday, 20 May 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh PIE...

...what kind of PIE?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 20 May 2004 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm I want pie now. I might scoff pie from Safeway on my way to the pub.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 20 May 2004 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd ignored this thread up till now as I thought it was for Merkins in, you know, Merkia. Ah me. I'll see you at 7.30 ish, depending on how much work my Canada-bound boss gives me late in the day (usually quite a lot).

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 20 May 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

buggerrit all. I'm still in Pakistan and my flight keeps drifting further away. First a cancellation and now the replacement flight has been moved back 12 hours and I have a sneaking suspicion that that one might vapourise as well. And I cannot express how much I would like a pint of the ordinary. Any beer in fact but muslim countries are not the best place to find a convenient drink.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 20 May 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

poor Ed! can't remember when i last saw you actually, have a safe trip home asap

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 May 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

However have fun y'all. Tom already has some explaining to do about telephoning socialist in Muslim countries, give him some more explaining to do.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 20 May 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

This is very annoying. WAAAAAHHH! Fuck PIA rectally with a rusty, tetanus-ridden chainsaw.

Ally, I snagged you a freebie at the launch Steph and I went to this morning and will bring to pub.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 20 May 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Suzy never gets US freebies!

Anyway, I had a steak and ale pie with chips and peas and ONION GRAVY and a pint of Landlord but I could only drink a half of it so RickyT had the rest. I am very full now. I paid five english pounds for it. Did I mention I am full? I will be in the pub at sixish too. Ew See El representz!!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 May 2004 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

That sounds kinda nice.

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 20 May 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Think I might wander along around 6.30pmish. If anyone recognises me, please either include me into your conversation or switch to football talk (in which case I'll butt in anyhow).

Mikey G (Mikey G), Thursday, 20 May 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i remember you, just about

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 May 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, we shared that dwarf.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Thursday, 20 May 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

*searches brain*

You disposed of his body in the canal?

Mikey G (Mikey G), Thursday, 20 May 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

WHAT GOES ON THE STAG STAYS ON THE STAG!!!!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 20 May 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps we can continue that argument about moomin books, G.

Anyway COME ON CLOCK 35 minutes left to go: will be there aboot 6ish missen.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

JEALOUSY

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I will booze the shit out of the gay wedding I am attending at 3:00 PM just so that I won't feel left out.

(For some reason I feel like this is the oddest sentence I've ever written)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Sadly I am unable to attend this momentous occasion. I am sure you will all breathe a huge sigh of relief.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Where are we going again? (Sorry, thread long, computer bad.)

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Lamb, 6pm, Lamb's Conduit Street. Swing by here first, A?

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I am jealous of both the FAP and the gay wedding. But I am having dinner tonight with some friends, so all ultimately is well.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that what we were talking about, Sarah? Memory of that night is a bit swiss cheese.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Might as well. Work not happening today. What time are you off though? It takes me just under an hour to get out of my bourgious ghetto and into town proper and [vain moment] I want to get changed.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I dunno. Perhaps it was about badger hunting. I am demoralised from work now and need an pint.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Pakistan the most remote place from which anyone has ever posted to ILE?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Crikey yes. But I need something greasy and nasty beforehand, so might venture into that scary restaurant next to the Hairy Tortoise after work.

xpost by remote you mean...? Australia's further away from the UK you know.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

what, apart from dunedin!

(ah, the obvious ones are the best)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

the ironing is that Dunedin is much closer to ILX than most of us, technically speaking

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

And yet, in other ways, not so.

The Davefox (daveb), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there around 8 by the looks of things. Saw A&T yesterday when they came to pick up cables etc. and I think they enjoyed the vibe 'round EC1.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still full from lunchtime pie so I'll be straight au booziere. FOUR MINUTES.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY MINUTES!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

ONE MINUTE

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i go now too, IT'S A RACE!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

THIRTY MINUTES STILL AT WORK! WANT TO BE IN PUB! DAMMIT.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I might get a taxi.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

done bugger all all afternoon so could leave now theoreticlike

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i feel like i should stay later since i spent 3-4 getting a haircut...oh well!

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I go in ten minutes.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I leave in 45ish.

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I suspect about 100 minutes, then a 25 minute walk :(

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

The Merkins will actually be TURNING UP tonight I hope, unlike some I can mention...?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

easy tiger, you don't want to scare them off

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

You peoples treat them well or I will wreak vengeance.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

you don't scare me your staff and...oh jaybus he's got the Orb Of Xendor

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i think one of the promised isnt going to make it:(

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 20 May 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It was great to meet them, and a fine FAP all round, I think.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 20 May 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

yes hurrah for bouze! and americans!! was there any post-pub action? or did everyone drift off (like what i did)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 21 May 2004 07:34 (twenty-one years ago)

A bunch of people went to, umm, Ireland. Which Pete is trying to introduce as the New Spain.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 21 May 2004 07:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I was in Cambridge last night watching boring snooker. I ate a beef curry in guinness which I believe is a traditional thai dish.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 21 May 2004 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, in the relaxed vibe inducing area of King's Cross, yes?

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 21 May 2004 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

No, the actual Cambridge, England.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 21 May 2004 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

That would be the one, Ricky. I did not join the Armada instead preferring to travel via Jamaica to Estonia with mon ami, Pepe le Peu.

Now awaiting shopping girl maniacs. I hope last night's damage is not permanent but I see no one returning from active duty.

Also good news, Ed is finally on the flight back from Pakistan. The airline was tryng to hose the customer by cancelling not terribly full planes.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 21 May 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It was interesting to see the Americans. What a nice pair!

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 21 May 2004 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Ladies and gentlemen, Mikey G.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 21 May 2004 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Did anyone take pictures of YMOF's hair? Excellent evening, all.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Wish I could've gotten there earlier...I spent most of the evening in a Moroccan basement. The food was good. The belly-dancing...kind of embarrassing.

sgs (sgs), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Ireland rocked. Ally has photos of the night. Ruin is only moderate. Life's okay.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I think yet again my choice of Ireland was inspired.
I think however that my current situation of VATY audit and hangover is less than inspired.
YMOF and his absolutely ridiculoud hair was last seen on my couch. Because he did not have to get up early to see an accountant.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i have to admit that i enjoyed ireland far more than i expected to, although the general clientele seemed amused/afraid of us for most of the night, and various people were lectured by the bouncers for breakdancing.

ally and tom are both so funny! (not looking, come on) i hope we didn't scare them by taking them to two such strange drinking venues.

i'm so tired today, though. i think i finally stumbled into my bed about 3. woo! yeah, woo.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I hardly think the Lamb is a strange drinking venue.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

colette you are being an owl again...

the Lamb was alright EXCEPT fucking annoying bar prices and it was pretty crowded but that's partly because the turnout for the 'merrykaanz was large. but in spite of paying over £3 for pints (although the cider was cheap, and bluvvly - fark da hatorz) it was the absolute bees bollocks

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Jaysis. I didn't realise it was that expensive. Was even the Ordinary over 3 quid?

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

no just the lager i think, but still

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Back to Sam Smiths ASAP I think.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

A good night out with minimal ruin - hooray! Nice to see y'all, and to meet our Yankee friends. Things I learned:

-Tom has the craziest forearm muscle I have ever seen
-I *may* have the hairiest legs in ILX
-Barry definitely out-hairs me on the chest (TMI, I know...)
-Don't engage in any arguments with Kate and Colette when feeling sluggish from the bouze. Losing is inevitable! BTW, I wasn't really trying to argue with you guys. It probably sounded like I was making sweeping generalizations about women's hearing in some way being not as good as men's or something, but the reality was that I actually agreed with you - women do indeed hear and perceive sounds in different ways than men. Sorry - I'm horribly inarticulate after lager... So hugs and kisses to you both!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i have the best hearing

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

but not the hairiest forearms

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Next bit of news from Ed. Despite calling me from a moving boarding queue, the plane is now delayed due to tech difficulties. AAAAARGH.

I'm so cross, and Ally isn't here for shopping yet.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i have the best hearing
You're wearing one of those "Whisper 2000"s, aren't you...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds like a good time was had by all. F00tball Wr1t3rs awards were interesting. Trevor Br00king took 3 quaters of the peanuts from a nibble dish in one swoop and bottles of budweiser were coming in at 5.25 each.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

My head hurts and I smell weird. Best of all, when I woke up, my brother was watching 'The Postman'.

But last night was marvellous. Ireland was lovely even if you get the feeling they might not especially have appreciated us (esp. DJ Sit-The-Frig-Down), marvellous to meet the Americans, marvellous marvellous marvellous etc.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Excuse me Dave but no free booze at an AWARDS? Feh to that.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

ordinary was only £2.05? i think? i know i came home with more money than i went out with, but i also know why this is.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i think the dj loved us, actually. he was talking about playing stuff 'next time', and at the start of the night told me he had to wait to play the 'good stuff' (i'd requested toxic) till the noise-monitoring people left.

the scary bouncer man did not appreciate us, however.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

p.s. WBS, did you and starry manage to get busses in the right direction? i was slightly worried when you joined me at a bus stop headed north east...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed. I was shocked. There was no free piss. The PFA awards had free piss all night, but I no longer attend out of my principled disagreement with that fine body of worker's representatives.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

C - we got a bus that would take me to TCR (for N68) and Starry to Oxford Circus (12).

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think the ordinary was that cheap steve. i think it was maybe £2.35?

toby (tsg20), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I cannot believe I have only just looked at this thread. I had no idea the americanas were here.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't go, but am in a very advanced state of ruin.

Gutted to miss it, but then at one o'clock this morning I was dancing like a loon to Binary Finery with a load of accountants and sales managers, it was odd, yet very very good.

oh and Boyler - it was free bar alllllllllll night.

chris (chris), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, well, was Car0l V0rderman at your do? I think not.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that supposed to be a plus point?

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

She's everywhere these days!

sgs (sgs), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

chris wins

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

nope, just Captain Morgan. I was all a bit bacchanalian, at three o'clock a waiter walkeed past me carrying a bowl containing a bottle of JD, a bottle of Bells a bottle of smirnoff, two bottles of coke and a shedload of ice. Those responsible were not seen at breakfast.

we had playstations and skaelextric (sp?) though

chris (chris), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

alright don't rub it in

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

chris (chris), Friday, 21 May 2004 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

6am hometime for me. Jeebus. First time I've managed to fall asleep on TWO nightbuses. I can confirm that walking in the rain for THREE HOURS isn't as fun as it seems. I hand in my goth cards...

sarah at home, Friday, 21 May 2004 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

more gossip, someone tried to bite someone elses finger off

chris (chris), Friday, 21 May 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Couldn't they just have got a kebab?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 21 May 2004 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 21 May 2004 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Play Your Goth Cards Right! you don't get anything for a suicide pact, not in this game!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

also chin up Sarah, may i suggest more magic pie?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I think taking today off was the best decision I have ever made. I think my last memory is of Tom's* frankly awe-inspriring breakdancing move at the Irish Bar. The ridiculously-coiffeuered YMOF was only stopped from doing the worm by some concerned bar staff, I think. Did Ally take any dancing photos?

Irish Bar >>>>>>>>> Spanish Bar. Barang is indeed correct.

*Millar, not Ewing.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 21 May 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Glad I went to this, nice to get back into the fap-swing! Great to meet Ally and Tombot. I fear I may look quite silly in one photograph, ah well, nevermind!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 21 May 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I have terrible hearing it would seem.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 21 May 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Jel, there's a pic of me, you, Stevem and (I think) Barry that rivals the Don't Try It Swimmer pic for its depiction of London ILX's hunks of testosterone.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Woah!

I don't they can handle that < /destinys child>

jel -- (jel), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Woah!

I don't think they can handle that < /destinys child>

(whoops probably posted twice, watching cricket and posting is way beyond my mult-task skill level)

jel -- (jel), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my last memory is of Tom's* frankly awe-inspriring breakdancing move at the
Irish Bar.

Ah good! Him busting out moves with Anthony and Andrew at the July 4 FAP was one of the absolute utter highlights.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I WAS NOT NAKED!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

hey! thank you everyone for being very lovely, we had a really good time. and I met Jean Reno in London!!!!!!

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it not Le Main Traceur? Maybe a distant relation ho ho.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 24 May 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Jean Reno is looking fantastic these days! You'd never know he was 56.

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe we still have some of this left:

http://www.edirectory.co.uk/pf/images/products/1567/images/sputnik.jpg

Ally, we made our train just fine and got the adapter cord from the Duke of York barstaff. Wheeee!

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoa MDC and Rob Bolton look like they're about to glass someone in that picture up there.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

This is Tom & Ed.

http://bitchcakes.topcities.com/london/ed.jpg

This is a closeup of the disgusting horrible thing they are showing off.

http://bitchcakes.topcities.com/london/snakejuice.jpg

xpost I never did go get that vodka, Suzy!!! but I had 3 or 4 lambics in my bag from going to the Bourough Market and, um, buying lambics so I figured I didn't need even more booze. (!!!)

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

yes i have cheated and looked at them all already. BEST PICTURES EVER (tho it's pretty urgent i get at least SOME of my hair cut off ASAP really). and must stop wearing faded t-shirts where cider stains show up easily. thank you you voltron-breasted marvel.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

speaking of Borough Market this was taken there, unfortunately Emma is a bit washed out thanks to unusual sun situation :(

http://bitchcakes.topcities.com/london/eliemma.jpg

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

(Ally, would you like for me to see if I can get my brother to give you a guest-spot on a track so that we can get the line "I can get my breasts to form Voltron" immortalized on a hip-hop track?)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

this is my absolute favorite photo taken besides possibly an upcoming one of Matt DC.

http://bitchcakes.topcities.com/london/gstevem.jpg

xpost OBVIOUSLY I'm going to say "yes" to that question, Dan!!!

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I have also cheated.

But now I suffer.

For I want to jump out of window.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

(WOAH why is my uncle Earl in the background of that picture???)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

That's just beautiful. If only Tom were holding the fags so it would appear that the boys' heads were smoking them...

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

BTW we do not recommend the (s)Hite beer in the background of Ally's photo nor the Vietnamese Wine of Snake.

Ed is now in bed with one of those colds you get from aircon and airplanes.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan i think your Uncle Earl was COMING ONTO ME at one point (by which i mean he was staring at me similing for about 20 seconds until i got the fear). this is another reason to be annoyed about Lixi's abstinence from fundancing

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

also I'm really sorry I didn't get photos of everyone at the FAP proper. I was kind of terrified to take photos because of my lovely "WELCOME TO LONDON" experience: within 5 minutes after checking in and heading out to do tourist things from the hotel, I immediately drop my camera and smash the lens casing. Tom had to purchase me a new one and I was quite a bit sketchy about taking it out for having the fear of destroying it. So there were like a good 20 people at the FAP who I missed out on photos of because it wasn't until after several drinks and a trip to the Irish bar that I got the nerve to take it out more.

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

tho i like that in that pic of gareth and I it looks like Tom is sneaking up behind us planning to stick them in our eyes or something while Uncle Earl looks on chuckling malevolently

irish bar

xpost i like the fact that you look like you're going to vomit on an extremely pleased gareth, stevem. Tom double-fisting cigarettes inexplicably just kind of makes it that little special bit better.

That Gareth/Stevem shot is for the ages. As is the Tom/Ed shot since I TOO HAVE SAT ON THAT COUCH. Not with the vom juice, though. Matt as a zombie is wondrous.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Jelly Joy? And why haven't the Brits talked about that one before?

Nothing to do with the fap but I couldn't resist something called "Knightrider Street"

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

HAHA! Now we need Dan and I in front of that car giving the thumbs up...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt's got a blank look straight out of a Hammer House of Horror 'here's one which went wrong when I tried to remove his brane' experiment.

x -post Matt before Peter Cushing kidnapped him.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

aw colette looks ruvvly in that matt dc one, as does he and YMAOF

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt & Gareth are sad.

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, THERE'S the brown. For a second I was worried.

http://bitchcakes.topcities.com/london/morelondon.jpg

I just enjoy this picture. What is the leany building? I took it cos from this angle it looks like the tower bridge is shoving it.

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha Ally that's Ken Livingstone's office. The building itself has already been nicknamed The Bollock.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

or The Peanut, bizarrely

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't even know who the fuck these people are. They aren't the indie street toughs who we got in the punch up with, at least.

http://bitchcakes.topcities.com/london/randomdudes.jpg

xpost haha I should've gone in and said hi. That building was so weird looking especially in the area it was in!

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Ally did you guys go on the wheel? i would like to see Millar looking down on the city with some sort of intent

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

http://bitchcakes.topcities.com/london/sketchyjel.jpg

STEVE AND JEL ARE GOING TO FITE!

xpost didn't do the wheel because I am a bit claustrophobic and I know it is not a traditional "ferris wheel" in that you get shoved in with like 15-20 other people! so it would've been quite bad but Tom did seem quite interested in going in when we spotted it from cross the city.

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't the Bollock beiong called the distended bollock by some more anatomically minded cabbies?

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Uncle Earl and Steve hook up.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

whatever Tom has said to Sarah seems to not be sitting well with her.

allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Colette will be pleased that you got her new boyfriend into that photo on me and her. Dude kept excitably dancing (including flinging his coat off twice), stopping only to get the sandwich counter in the corner of the bar to make him something to eat.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

suzy's sweets from pakistan included one that looked suspiciously like pac-man. Also, I think I ate far too many of them and am kind of craving one now.

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

he threw his coat off THREE TIMES! he was such a good dancer...

is andrew flipping off the camera in the one with steve m standing in front of tom and sarah talking?

great pictures, i spent most of the night wishing i'd remembered my camera!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

ha you can see lixi's hair in several of these photos but never her face except from v long distance. conspiracies etc.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

You look especially demonic in that last one for some reason.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

my god he is flipping me the bird.

allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I was. In fairness, all the cool kids have already flipped your camera off (though I may be the first with the new camera).

I also love Tom's expression in the two cigarettes picture. "And now, for my next trick".

Tom would make a great Tango man (UK reference)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

well my hair is much nicer than my face.

alix (alix), Monday, 24 May 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

alix hair > alix face > stevem hair > eveything else, ok then?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I tried to get lixi in the one photo but Pete shifted position when I took it and face-blocked her!

in the few days I was in London, incidentally, two of my uncles ended up in hospital, my mom's car nearly blew up, and my dad broke my mom's rib giving her the heimlich maneuver. Between that, the street fite, and the camera incident I believe I should never leave town again. sorry London!

otoh as soon as I got back I got eat alive by mosquitos at the Newark train station, they have left welts the size of baseballs on my legs and arms, and also DC just kind of sucks ass so perhaps "move to London" is actually correct here.

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, me and my wicked face-blocking skills. I shall try to use these undiscovered face blocking powers more often. In combination with minestrone man smell I would be unstoppable.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

ally, you just want to hang around with Jean Reno all the time ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like to think the Jean Reno comment and the Minestrone Man comment were related, that would make a lot of sense to me really.

Allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

(Eeek on the family catastrophes! WTF???)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

thursday was good, i wish i had been around on the saturday to go to Bangkok Impact at cargo though, that sounded really great. i'm pretty sickly at the moment, and just wasnt up to it:(

gareth (gareth), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

bangkok impact was great, really fantastic, i hope you feel better soon, g.

allyzay, Monday, 24 May 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I had a damned CLUE about what was going on in the photo where I appear to be going "belm".

Perhaps I was showing TOMBOT my amusing impression of a spastic.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, take care. Try moving very slowly and observing results on family!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

(xpost)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Except, it's not amusing.

Possibly offensive.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

"Shouting Things (Possibly Insults) At People During A FAP"

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

(Eeek on the family catastrophes! WTF???)

I was about to say! Hope everyone's okay!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

echo dat :(

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy shit that is the greatest photo of me ever taken! It even beats Raggett's Spanish Bar photo. Not the zombie one when they've stolen my brane, obv.

Steve and Jel look like comical Easter Island heads in that pic above.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and there is nothing girly about blue alcopops.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 24 May 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

He had a pink one five minutes later.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 24 May 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Then he had an alcopop, ho ho my aching sides.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 May 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a red one, after Ally was confused by / fleeced by the barman who gave her three watermelon bacardi breezers instead of the one for three pounds she asked for. Or something .I must admit I was quite confused too.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 24 May 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

that's my nose in one of those above.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 24 May 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I think sticking your nose into other people's drinks is kind of rude, jel.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 May 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

(you can see my back in the cargo photos.)

toby (tsg20), Monday, 24 May 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I really must stop putting my finger in my ear so much... what must people think of me?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 24 May 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

"hey, nonny nonny"

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 May 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

HAHA!

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 May 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

TRACER HAND IS DAVE CLARKE.
